Design algae and plants
Whether you want a small flower that glows in the dark, black algae specialized for planets without a lot of sunlight, or a forest of giant trees covered in spikes, it's up to you.
Design aquatic, land and flying animals
Want a brightly colored fish that drags itself onto land to hide its eggs in burrows? Or perhaps a land animal that gives birth to live young and quickly runs from flower to flower to drink nectar? Or what about a flying carnivore specialized for diving and catching its prey underwater? Again, it's up to you.
Scenarios: learn the simulation step by step
While the simulation in this game can be deep and complex, it's introduced to the player step by step; it never becomes overwhelming. Each scenario tasks you to build an ecosystem that meets specific requirements, and introduces a small number of new concepts.
Sandbox: build your own planet
The sandbox offers the same functionality as the scenarios (but, obviously, with everything unlocked), but also much more: play with the procedural planet generator to get the exact planet you want, whether it's a desert world, an underwater world, or whatever you come up with. It even allows you to define up to 8 seasons to spice that ecosystem up a little. While playing, you can continue to change things: the next ice age is always only a few clicks away.
Turn on random mutations and see what evolution does with your ecosystem
The most exciting feature of the sandbox, at least according to solo dev Wessel Stoop, is random mutations. See your algae, plants and animals evolve to quickly fill available niches, see how some species are outcompeted immediately while others bloom for thousands of years... only to die out when their food source evolves a new trick to escape, and a completely different clade jumps in the now vacant niche.

Really good games its still feels like in its in the beta but i hope its more like mincraft were you constantly improve and develop it (Never give up! Never what ------------)
it is too hard but it is very good but try make your planet safe for beings to surivive
this is one of the best games I play this a lot and i say 5/5, one of the best games.
Ever wanted to play god while running at 2 frames per a second? This game will be great for you :D
This game is a great game for any person that loves evo/animal games. If you have played spore before I can almost guarantee that you'll like this game. Though i have two problems which could be fixed so this could become out of date. First placing parts can be annoying becuase they sometimes just don't snap and i cant build a maximum size tree. Thats it but over all a great game!
A very fun game with some awesome ideas. I especially like how difficult it is to create a sustainable ecosystem with carnivores included 😭
this game is a fun evolution game but add more spore parts and a mode you play as one of the creatures that are animals of course
literally perfect. this was worth EVERY PENNY. first of all it gives you a ton of freedom editing creatures and the system is awesome!!! reminds me kind of like spore. Also there are plants and algae which i personally find hella sick. and you can turn on mutations. The scenarios are also kinda cool if you want a challenge. :)
i love evo sims but this is my favorite because it is more inmursive than others and has more content
Esse é o melhor simulador de ecossistema já feito, é um prato cheio pra quem ama evolução especulativa
This is a game which I highly recommend to those who want to have some freedom in creating your very own ecosystem and seeing the animals evolve to suit whatever environment you create. There are also many tutorial-like scenarios which teach you about why some things happen and why things evolve. Just make sure you have a high lag tolerance though, because it will become very laggy after a while, but other than thet, it's a really fun game to play, and I'm sure you will enjoy it too :)
great game, only problems in my opinion are the performance issues of course and the fact that if a species of well adapted herbivores develop well enough they will litteraly never allow any other species to exist or grow
I think the game is great however there is one glaring issue that really holds this game back. If your PC isn't great than running this game will feel like you've tasked your computer with a burden to hold the entire universe. However if you can look past that than the game is really good. Creating your own species and watching them evolve is really cool but, if you're not careful your worlds become too big and you're game can crash and lag. I would recommend this if your willing to encounter crashes and lag and play on low graphics. However all the performance issues are being improved by the developer so you could wait until the next update is released. Looking past the performance issues, the features in this game are amazing. I'm not a personal fan of the scenarios but the sandbox gives you so much creativity and the amount of features are plentiful. Also the developer clearly works hard on this project so the game definitely has something special about it.
Love the concept and the potential but they seriously need to improve performance and fix all the bugs
This game is amazing for anyone who likes aliens. It allows you to just, leave it on and let it play. If you wished Spore had an aquatic multicellular stage, this is the game for you. You can make algue, plants and an ecosystem from the ground up.
this game is honest to god the best wessel is the goat
I have been playing this game for two hours now and still have not discovered how to resize limbs. very bland and i find the game spore, mind you a 2006 game, much better. which speaks volumes on how crappy this game is. don't waste your money here, go buy spore or something better. NOT WORTH 13.00 DOLLARS.
Its a nice evolution game,I know the dev works really hard on it.Its underrated and it has potential
its a god evelution simulate but it crashis cuit esily
this game is very fun but i hope for the new update that we get ear that can replace eyes and hydrothermal vents also insect and phytoplankton size and stationary tunicate type creatures
I really love this game, altough it DOES have some issues.
Such as - The aquatic animals being really stupid and animals ignoring food.
I'd really appreciate if someone could give me a tip on aquatic creatures.
this game is so amazing and everything i could ever want :3
3/5.
A massive issue is the preformance, I have a decent PC. But this game makes my PC quite literally make sounds I haven't heard before. I'm hoping for the next update, that there will be changes to make the game run smoother, hopefully cutting down the lag, and strange sounds.
Than I'd give it a 5/5
The Sapling is a great evolution simulator. The Sapling is a great game for all ages, especially for people who want to know what alien life could look like that they design. It also simulates algae, plants, and animals (more kingdoms of life coming in the next big update) on an alien planet you design.
Radical, its a bit hard in the beginning trying to make animals that survive on their own tho
I. Love. This. Game. The devlogs, the developer. Its so so cool. cant wait for 31.10. and what ever will be next :D
Talented Indie game with the potential to cement its history in the gaming world similar to the greats like Spore and Birthdays: The Beginning.
Funny lil fish go nyyooom (However sandbox gets to a point where my computer has decided to just straight up die)
An amazing game. Some bad things but with each update it just gets better and better.
Extremely fun, love the game and where it is heading.
Can't play it much though. Performance is very very rough and prevents you from actually enjoying it much as your computer will sputter and scream before you've simulated too many generations. Effectively, only the story mode is playable right now.
Check back in a year to see if the performance is fixed, would be worth a buy then. Otherwise, the creator's youtube channel is great.
Interesting speculative evolution game where you can create alien lifeforms (multi-cellular organisms, algae, plants, and grass) on an alien planet. Each update that comes out further enhances the game and its mechanics in addition to performance. There's not a lot of games in this niche genre, so I appreciate what there is and I have high hopes for the future of this game.
This is the best evolution game I have ever played. Spore, Evolution, Planetary life demo, all of them pale in comparison to this game. It is truly just the best evolution game ever.
I want to give this game a positive review, I really do. It's got a charming aesthetic. It's clever and cute and a wonderful little window into evolutionary theory. But there is one, massive, glaring issue: It has some of the worst performance issues I've ever encountered. Even just a few centuries of (in-game) simulation will reduce the performance to a crawl, making it absolutely impossible to progress forward. I'd hold off on a purchase until such a time as these issues are solved.
I really like this game and messing around with all the sandbox options, but make sure you do the scenarios first or you wont know what's going on and everything won't make much sense.
Amazing features bur really needs some polishing in other area (performance, camera movement, rendering, instruction, and goals for scenarios
One of the best if not the best evoloution game, and i love the speed of the many beautiful updates they make every year
Good, but it is quite confusing. Especially at the plant part. Just give me my fucking aliens.
7/10
Super buggy still, but its alot of fun and i am eager to see where it goes
very poor optiomized, unplayable after some time when more creatures appear
very pog
it does glitch when you have heaps of animals and plants but was really fun.I have loved evolving creatures and watch them grow
Although I had serious lag problems in sandbox, I didn't enocunter them in scenarios. I honestly love this game and I think its going to get better and better. If the creator is reading this, can you add map size for sandbox that is same/ almost the same as scenario map size?
The game runs poorly on my computer and i have a pretty nice rig. i really do like the games concept i had fun with what i could actually play but the lag eventually made the game unbearable. i tried changing the settings and everything but nothing seemed to work.
one of the best games ive ever played
In my opinion, The Sapling is a well made game, considering it's in early access. I have not played Sandbox Mode yet, but so far the scenarios are quite entertaining. Definetly in my top 3 favorite steam games. And I still would have bought it if the price was much higher! I got 0% off and it was already a great deal.
a great game that gets updated all the time.
If you find ecosystems and mutation interesting this is the game for you
Good Gameplay and Good music
glitchy, tuns it self off, volcanos have bugs that make it beome a massive trianglor mountin
Game is a glowing ember in a small genre. This game might be the pinnacle of creation. I have had so much fun on this game, and might be The Game of all time!
Super fun
made me feel sigma
