This game does not only have the solar system you can do whatever you want and play other creations
This game is fantastic. With only 4+ hours on the game, it is still amazing with all your space-curiosities you can fulfill. The game runs perfect with anything you really want to create.
this games is very realistic and has very high graphics. highly recommend purchasing this game.
Universe sandbox is awesome... the graphics and almost everything is awesome! 100/10... would recommend...
This game is just the best. I can throw jupiter sized whales at earth. And that it only the beggining.
This game is really cool and realistic and I love it.
please do keep updating this game till planets and stars and galaxies can form after supernovas occur within this game.
This game is very interactive and it is very fun to combine planets, create planets, DESTROY PLANETS (hahaha), explore planets, it is simply fun! I can't wait for the graphics update especially!
Extremely fun. Collisions are fun. Preloaded sims. Still getting updated.
worth the money ngl I used to like space and this game is just cool I learned that Pluto had a moon witch made me google Pluto's moons making me find out it had 5 moons cool game 10/10 great to pass time with messing around
This game is amazing for using simulations with solar systems! Plus, you can make your own custom planets/stars/moons.
I love the game and its a great simulation for people who love space or astronomy and even science in general
This game is laggy without a gpu, but it is very fun nontheless to destroy Earth over and over and over and over and over... etc.
I love breaking the laws of physics just so I can destroy the Earth in more fun and interesting ways
This is the best sandbox game. it has cool graphics and is super fun i totally recommend this - also if you right-click universe sandbox in your library and go to properties then betas and NONE and click !Preview version {something like that} and is under none then you can make the game more realistic
It is the best game regarding planets and science, but for some reason, I can't upload a simulation to the steam workshop. Every time I try it the game just crashes. I've made three simulations and none of them work, developers, please fix this.
great game play up dated comiing evry year good music vibes infininty random noo funny more to doevery dayshare it with freinds it worth nowand dad bot it
Really neat to play around in and make cool planets and systems with. Lost for hours in the void of space.
this is a really cool universe/space game its the best i've played its fun to just make planets collide or just watch them orbit the star like the ongoing lonliness and insanity slowly coming for some of us. Anyways good day!
solar smash but on PC and VR just a TON more than just a few side buttons. Also it has mods too!
looks complex at first site all it takes is testing and after that it should be straight on!
added 300 earths to the solar system and made jupiter a black whole, thought it would be fun untill i had to reinstal windows
it has very good graphics and is very fun
the game at the start can be a litlle confusing bc the tutorial shows almost nothing and i still cant figure out how to play it but i really love to play this when im bored or want to take my mind off things
good game gets really fun around the 74 hour mark though
Universe Sandbox is amazing as a sandbox to doodle with, as an educational tool, and as a worldbuilding aid.
There are some aspects I wish were more in-depth or flexible, e.g. landmass drawing. However this is never going to a “finite game” that will be completed one day. It's a simulator that involves a bunch of data and science so there will always be room for improvement by definition. I really admire the work that was put into it for those reasons and I will look forward to its development!
After playing for 90+ hours, unfortunately, I cannot recommend Universe Sandbox 2 in its current state because of "forced" simulation gameplay mechanics, extreme lack of QoL features, and unresolved bugs making the simulator unstable.
What Universe Sandbox 2 succeeds at simulating:
The biggest mechanic you can experiment with in Universe Sandbox 2 is make a multitude of explosions, dust clouds, black holes, and nebulae with a simple "add X item" mechanic. Make "cold" stars, make bizarre orbits of random planets, turn Mars into Earth, turn Earth into Venus, and then do slightly more complex stuff such as simulating a Red Giant phase (of our Sun in a bugged state). That's really it. I've created around 8 solar systems with this game and a Black Hole "solar system" out of entertainment.
What Universe Sandbox 2 Struggles with (There's a lot):
This Simulator has zero features for organically made solar systems
Something I wanted to try when I first got this game was to use gas clouds, rocks, and form a solar system from scratch and let time form planets using gravity and mass. You can't do that in this game. In US2, rock particles regardless of size are never attracted to each other and barely interact with planetoid objects. Unless if you force a rock particle to hit a planet using the "launch" feature (which has a chance of completely obliterating the height map and even the planet). You can't load in elements orbiting a star and expect gravity to LAND onto said planets.
US2 forces you to plop in Blank Planets or Random Planets into your custom solar system and then edit the material data from there. I like how there are albedo and atmosphere settings which allows for experimentation (like having a warm object far away from a star).
Object customization is severely lacking and the existing features become stale after a few simulations
On the Macro scale, US2 is incredible at handling black holes and supernovae. Stars feel mostly complete, but there really needs to be an option to allow stars to convert their Hydrogen into Helium to simulate a star's life cycle.
That being said, customization features for objects such as planets, moons, comets (MIA), space stations, and planet habitability are significantly lacking.
The features you are provided for terrestrial objects is a basic "circle" tool that raises/lowers the height map, a tool to change the sea level, atmosphere modifications, an atmosphere converter for those looking to create Earth-like planets ( this is a good feature!) and a handful of cloud and elevation colors/textures to make a few unique planets.
But where are the height map importing tools? Where are other elements and solid materials we can choose from? Why does vegetation look like paint when we have that feature on the planets? How about custom city light maps or custom textures? What about different weather patterns for planets and moons or perhaps tides that are affected by satellites? Why are we only limited to three colors per terrestrial object?.
The same can be said for gas giants. I love the custom band feature, but what about storms or cosmetic rings?*.
I took a peak at Discord and found many users trying to share their custom planets, many of them load US2 with game-slowing mods to achieve the results. If Universe Sandbox 2 had more features, the game would be more enjoyable after a few hours.
Material, Temperature, Pressure, Collision, and Lighting bugs CRIPPLE gameplay
Oh boy, where do I start...
MATERIALS: there's a chance that adding a material won't spawn or spawn incorrectly. This especially happens with helium. Sometimes using the "add new materials" feature causes a planet to flicker.
TEMPERATURE: In order to properly stabilize an object's temperature, you must set your sim's speed to around 50 years a second. Using the in-game stabilize temperature feature makes a part of the planet -459 degrees which is not a bug according to the developers.
Review Update: Temperatures of atmosphere-lacking bodies have warm nights when they should be very cold. Any kind of elevation above 10km can turn an extremely warm planet to absolute zero very quickly.
PRESSURE: Materials such as H20, C02, and Nitrogen have fixed (and slightly inaccurate) melting/boiling/freezing points. Increasing the ATM of an object DOES NOT increase a material's boiling point
COLLISION: Arguably the worst offender of the bunch. If the sim's speed is faster than 20 days a second, there is a 100% CHANCE that moons and rings will fling lightyears away from your solar system, leaving you to catch and save them to your toolbox! Moons commonly defy the laws of gravity regardless of accuracy setting and become its own planet. Because gravity is bugged (as I said earlier, planets don't attract objects properly), you cant expect gravity to fix your situation.
Planets with more than a single moon are guaranteed to encounter a gravity issue unless if your sim speed is incredibly slow (boring!). The same applies to rings. Rings are basically the same rock particle objects that are just as capable of flinging lightyears into space as moons.
LIGHTING: Why can I see every moon and object that is 50 AU away from another object? And why can't I see anything but my star in "realistic" mode? The lack of lighting and visibility features hurts the simulator's realism. When landing on a planet, your star will become completely black as if it's eclipsed. Increasing the light intensity even by a slight amount will turn brighter-colored objects blindingly white, even when said object is super far away from its light source.
However, Universe Sandbox 2 does an incredible job handling multiple light sources and colors. This feature works well.
Conclusion:
Universe Sandbox 2 can offer so much more than SPHERE GO B00M B00M!!. While the simulator feels complete with macro-level objects, Universe Sandbox 2 is an empty desert when it comes to the world-building side where players can unleash their creativity and interests in astronomy. Pesky bugs will turn any object that isn't a planet into a shooting star that will fling in random directions at the speed of light. The tools to customize planets is almost a decade behind other simulator games that have import tools to enhance gameplay (See: City Skylines import height map tool and texture tools).
I am concerned with the direction that the new graphics beta is heading in as the UI is buggy and many of the lighting features (light intensity for example) don't translate well. Let's also leave bloom in the mid-2000s, please.
Even with my criticisms, I still play the game because some elements are enjoyable. If you're really into astronomy and have the imagination to dump hours into simulations, I'd say it's worth it. Otherwise, it's a definite pass..
Overall, very good, especially for a beta. Would like there to be more moons, and display moon locations when you place a planet. Also, to put stars in the galaxies you can place, and to add gas clouds.
Really good especially with the next graphics update thats coming! (currently in "beta)
This is a exellent game in fact it was the first game i got on my current laptop and has been good so far. If you want a better experience you should try out the new preview version.
Experiment on the movement of stars and other astronomical objects, even galaxies and black holes. It can give you a a near accurate picture on how everything will reach an equilibrium if given enough time, no matter how many chaos you create on YOUR universe, order always prevails !
9.5/10 for me, as someone who likes Astronomy since i was a little kid, it is what i needed.
also when you're bored on an online meeting, you can use this to kill some time instead of listening your employee having boring arguments with each other.
Got really high and played this game for the first time, had an existential crisis, refunded the game... 10/10
this game made me cry due to the beauty of it. the music. the graphics. everything is good about this game. i recommand spending that 30 (sometimes 20 dollars) on this master piece of a game
I love this game. its absolute peak and very underrated. It's great for worldbuilding/universebuilding lore for your system making. This game also has a lot of customization, you can edit rocky planets, gass planets, change the color of stars, etc. Just get this peak game already. 🙏
you can also destroy earth so thats cool ig
it is a very realistic game for others to experience what could happen in space. You could even destroy anything, i would recommend using the tutorial though.
This Game is very realistic you can do anything you want to Stars,Planets,Black holes, and Galaxys. it is the most fun space game you could probably ever play I would definitey recommend this game for everyone.
Very fun to mess around with the Cosmos like your playing God. 8/10 Would Reccomend
This game has great graphics, and cool communities. This game is deffenetly for space lovers just like me! Also the new update is awsome!
Amazing educational and fun experience. Oppenheimer and Thanos would say "It's rekindled my love affair with destroying worlds"
Very good space simulator. Tons of options to adjust, detailed settings, and fun times playing with black holes. Lots of great simulations out there to download from the workshop. I would pay for this again if I had to.
It's a great game and a super great sandbox, with actual realistic physics and fun scenarios, but it can get laggy (which is bound to happen) and I would recommend getting it on sale because for some it might not be worth 30 dolla dollas
this game is fun for people who like space and physics and destroying stuff
Pretty good simulator and very fun. I'm looking forward to see a feature dedicated to terraforming and making life appear on other planets, if that will ever exist.
Since last I played this game, it has added tutorials and guides. This made the software much easier to use and more fun due to different scenarios already set. It is possible for Earth to be dislodged from it's existing orbit if a comet with enough mass pass by the solar system. The system is in a very delicate situation. I wished they added a button to set time to Now. Overall, would recommend.
Fun simulation of planets and other large objects in space. Obviously it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. It's a rough simulation focusing mostly on basic newtonian gravity.
Stars and black holes aren't simulated accurately, you can't collide neutron stars and supernova are a very basic effect, which doesn't really obey the laws of physics as we know them.
You can smash Mars into Earth though and it leaves a crater, changes the atmosphere and movement of the planet. Doesn't create a moon or a even a mountain on the opposite side of the planet.
So it has lots of good stuff in already, but it's far from complete.
I love this game, terraforming tools, making systems, stars, the graphics, Wow good job
This game is very fun for space users like me i reccomend this for your kids or anyone just to have sum fun
Destruction, creation, death, and life are all in this game letting your anger out on The world like actually I recommend buying this game toatly worth the price.
Really fun messing around with planets, asteroids, stars and more. You can play with the universe and do anything you can imagine, for example you can create your own star system or see what happens if you launch the Moon at Earth.
Would give it a shot!
One of the most addictive sandbox game I've ever played in my life. SOOOOO MANY THINGS YOU CAN DO HERE!!!
The effects are awesomely made and the graphics are beautiful as well, but since the recent update, it's almost impossible to design or terraform your planet. Perhaps somewhere in the near future I will download it again and hope this problem got fixed somehow...
Really good game, i can't wait for the new update.
