Описание

Universe Sandbox ² —

Windows Mixed Reality.

I like this game so much, I bought this game for 39.98 (CAD$) And I will never regret it, you can destroy, Make & Take care of your planet. The mods make it even better like, Solar System 4 Billion years ago, Nuclear war simulation, and much more. If you think its way to expensive That's you Chose to buy or not, but I will never delete this game, I cannot even describe with words how good it is, If you have the Chance to buy it, buy it. I Love this game! even though its a little bit hard for me to understand English there is a lot of languages, like Ukrainian (That's where I'm from) So you can do every thing in this game with comfort, Bye!

Wow that tutorial was got to be the best tutorial for a game I've played before. That alone was worth the money.

I was hoping it would be like the "Stellar Playground" exhibit, Im sure that If i play around with the game It can be and best of all won't cost 10k to play something that is close to it.

The 8 hours is a lie, I've played this game so long offline you don't even wanna know. Perfect for designing/world building for anything space related, or just goofing off and blowing things up. You cant always make everything you want too but that's okay, cant make everything crazy in a realistic simulator. Perfect game to play before going to bed or simply to relax.

Use your imagination, compared to Kerbal Space Program, this game does not demand you any sort of knowledge into physics, you are just having fun. Btw, you can terraform planets, I terraformed mars after I have crashed the moon into it and it evolved life on it through a century, I recommend this game.

Great tool for science projects and basic as well as advanced simulations. Very intuitive, but remember that Rome was not built in a day. Simulations can take a long time to run their course. . . Also EVERYTHING can be destroyed or explode in grand fashion! It can be quite mesmerizing sometimes or terrifying.

I like the software. I find it can be a little combersome trying to navigate large 3D dimentional space at times, although I'm not sure how it can be done easier. Some space objects look a little basic than I'd like, although if it's to save on CPU load and not melt my graphics card, then I'm happy with them. There are lots of useful Steam Workshops out there to download. I find it very informative. With my now dated desktop, and an accompanying Steam Deck, it's nice that this can run somewhat on the lower end with hiccups. I think when I eventually upgrade my hardware, I'll hopefully get the most out of this software. It's a shame I can't benchmark the really big stuff, as it'll slow my PC to a crawl.

A good game and very fun, dynamically simulates so many objects and celestial bodies. It is overall a great purchase and worth every penny. It does get really slow and glitchy when running a lot of objects, but other than that, best way to simulate every weird thought about space you had in your mind at age 8.

I absoloutly LOVE Universe Sandbox, it is a sandbox game [obviously] but for space, you can create absoloute beasts with MASSIVE stars and planets! And also small earthlike planets, speaking about earthlike there is an index called life likelyhood [it is XTREEEEMLY unbiast] and its almost impossible to get to 95% life likelyhood let alone 100% and the Earth similarity index is well idk earth isnt even on top 4 both earth is about 92,1% life likelyhood and for earth similarity index 4 Earth is like 99,3% or something but you can make almost ANYTHING custom systems, destroying planets in wierd and fun ways, getting ideas and testing stuff from youtubers and twicth streamers and etc.,

I bought this to simulate a fictional system for writing. I wanted to get a realistic idea of how planets would behave to create in-depth story telling. This sandbox does offers many features that most simulators do not, however, it is so horribly counter-intuitive that it can only effectively be used by experts, and most of them will still have difficulty using the controls. To be clear, there are plenty of people who are proficient with this simulation, however, becoming proficient is an arduous task that most will find undesirable.

Biggest dislikes
1) It is very difficult to align whole systems.
If you manually move a planet, it almost always leaves its satellites behind (moons and other orbiting objects), which makes editing your systems very difficult and time consuming. The settings have an orbital parent designation, so it makes no sense why the satellites of an orbital parent would not follow the parent setting.

2) Controls are clunky and difficult to use.
They are optimized only for VR, and even then, they are very counter-intuitive. I spent so much time looking up basic features or adjusting controls for keyboard & mouse settings, that I hated using this Sandbox. The lack of guidance took all joy out of creating solar systems. Generally, when someone must spend more time on YouTube figuring out how something works, or worse, simply getting it to work, over actually using the Sandbox it is a fail on the Developers side. Between truly horrible default controls and a passing attempt at a laughable tutorial, the learning curb to use this Sandbox is a massive deterrent.

3) While this sandbox could be a useful educational tool for many children to explore, it has a multitude of complicated mechanics and menus with little to no explanation.
This leaves most children spending 2 minutes playing with universal billiard balls and blowing up stars before they are bored and lose interest. Simple explanations and goals could make this into a fun and engaging sand box but sadly that does not exist. If children cannot figure out how something works, then they won’t learn from it. Without in-simulation guidance they will give up and the same is true of adults. The more arduous it is to create or correct effects the less appealing they are to use.

4) For a Universe Sandbox, a lot is still missing. You get space marbles (Planets), stars (Glowing Planets) and asteroids/toys. That is, it!
All rings are giant asteroids (very sparsely populated), and they are very poorly optimized. Weak PCs or VR will struggle in any complicated or well-developed systems. There are gases but you must blow up stars to add them to the sim, and they are gone in seconds so forget creating any nebula. There is a very limited number of stars so forget properly setting up pulsars or binary systems. The only way to make them work is to cheese the settings, so if you are trying for a realistic simulation it will rely on space magic to exist.

5) There is a very limited number of Planet Textures or Skins, and terrain manipulation is very underdeveloped.
No matter what you do to Earth the same cities show up in the same places even if the planet is bombarded into a molten lump of rock and then cooled with entirely different land formations. The Devs created a topographical tool for planets, but they did not bother to make oceans or civilizations adhere to that tool. At most civilizations will avoid areas that are too hot or cold provided they line up with the 20th century, civilization map of Earth.

6) The sand box only moves forward, so if you accidentally change a setting that destroys your system you must load a save to get it back.
This makes saving into a religion, and with the exceedingly clunky menus it is painful to fix what would otherwise be minor mistakes. Literally, I had a writer load 48 times in a 45-minute writing exercise. He learned nothing from his simulation because he spent all his time dealing with lengthy load screens, and every change he made failed to help him figure out what he was doing wrong.

As a teaching tool this Sandbox fails to engage students. It is only useful in lectures or as a teaching aid for educators, "who have way too much time on their hands and the patience to work around all its failings."
Yes, it offers features that others do not, but it matters little if they are too difficult to use or understand. For these reasons I cannot recommend this sandbox. It is literally hours of unfulfilling time tinkering with frustrating interfaces, just so you may arrive at a fraction of what you hoped for.

Blowing up Earth equates to about 3 minutes of fun, before it gets old. Add in stars and you get 1 more minute before you are board. If you sent hours blowing up rocks, well then you are treating this as a collision simulator and not a universe simulator.

I really like the game, do not get me wrong. It's fun and cool for a couple hours. My biggest issue, and the reason I'm giving it a negative review, is that it feels more and more like a 'Planet Collision Simulator' than an actual Universe Sandbox. And that's fine, but just advertise it correctly.

TLDR: if you're here for the collisions, go for it. If you want an actual astrophysics simulator that you can let your system-building imagination run wild, perhaps US isn't it (or I haven't figure out how to make US be).

I wanted a game/software where I could experiment with astrophysics and do my conworlding. I want to try and make a binary, trinary, quarternary star system without having to become an astrophysicist. I want to try and have two systems orbiting each other. But it's just so not there. It is clunky to try and set things and I feel like everytime I make a mistake, I have to start again. I want to have a complex system and land on one of the planets and see the night sky.
And I get this impression, i.e. that this is a collision simulator, by not only playing the game, but seeing the road map (everything graphics related so that collisions and explosions are prettier) and the developers comment ("Currently, our orbit paths only handle objects orbiting a single parent, not a system of parent objects. We'd like to improve this at some point in the future, but we don't have a timeline for it yet.").

Otherwise, it is fun for a couple hours! Saying different "what ifs".
I just don't think it was worth the investment for me.
