its like a tech demo almost for a really bad lackluster shooting/puzzle game. it definetly has the feeling of ahobby project but pushes itself and the sloppy narrative forward with the awful premise of it feeling like its setting you up for something bigger, where as its poor zombie esque AI and shitty tanky stronger zombie dudes are really just piss poor obstacles that only prove challenging in the crappy arena mode which is you being trapped in a tiny box of a room killing dudes and doing quick time events for eternity
on a scale of 1 to 7
1 being don't even consider playing this as a joke
7 being guaranteed worth checking out
i give it a 1, for being a lame demo with some snappy aesthetics to try to cover its soggy cardboard consistency
Very awesome game. Fun little play through - only about an hour and a half long. So if you have some time you need to kill and don't want to get fully immersed into a video game, this is definitely a game for you. Not much of a story, and if you are able to shoot a gun you can easily win!
Dead
Games been in development for 5 years, thats pretty dead. I'm not sure when the last update was, but the trailer on the steam page lies. It ain't as good as you'd expect. It looks like it might be good, they have screenshots like it could be. Let me tell you it isn't. I'm biased, I love cyberpunk games. This game was, and I quote, commented on by my roomate as "This screams 'My first videogame' all over." Why is that though? It looks like it should be good up to the enemies and bouncing heads of zombies youve killed. Yeah its mostly zombies, with a detached story that makes no sense. Kill "nanophage" zombies.
Delivery
All things aside we should discuss some of the weird ways this game is presented. We are in some super futuristic game within (possibly) another VR Game? That's the only way this makes sense because the zombies are caused by nanomachines? No real indication as to how or why a nanomachine would make zombies, but there ya go. Canon to 2084 Senator Armstrong was defeated by his own weak immune system and chopped to pieces by Jetstream Sam. Say no to Nanomachines son. The game makes very short and boring use of tiny hallways with Dash moves that seem to warp you, but not through any solid object including a zombie's body. So tight hallways, zombies from every corner, and no breathing room. A terrible combination for a game that makes you think its fast pace. Also, guns don't auto-load ammo, so the wave-based combat that has most of the game's achievements becomes extremely difficult. Also also, FUCKIN MAKE TIME STOP WHEN HACKING NOT SLOW DOWN TIME SO I DIE AND BREAK THE GAME DURING A HACK.
Fake Speed
Like buying any drug, one must take special care to always review your product. In this case, I allowed the outside pretty crystal look of 2084 to distract me from the fact that most Molly doesn't look crystal-y. Now I'm sitting here meth'd out of my mind waiting for the high to drop and my heart rate goes back to normal. Why or how? I didn't test, and I saw a shiny blue pill and put it in my mouth. Yeah, I hate this. This game is like that. Like fucking up on a drug test because you forgot to test your drugs. I don't do drugs, but if I did, that's what it'd be like. This is a warning to everyone, make sure to download demos, or look up gameplay beforehand. This is an awful waste of time, and I want to love it, oh I do. It looks so cool, but...
Looks Aren't Everything
And in this case, the poor mechanics, the poor AI, and the poor level design (WHERE ARROWS ARE NEEDED TO GET YOU THROUGH EVERY LEVEL) cause this game to go down as definitely the worst cyberpunk game I've ever played, and possibly the worst Early-Access-paid-for-game I've ever played. Cheers though, not the worst looking game. And once it's released, I'll give it another go, maybe even change the review.
2084 is a first person shooter game. This is an early game. It is still on hold status. The review only is written with some general impressions about the game. When I saw the title —at least for me— I thought I was going to play a game based on Boualem Sansal's book. But it was not like that, it's another shooting game. At the moment the game doesn't have a solid narrative. The temporary and open to change narrative is about a woman who's immersed in the world of videogames through virtual reality. Both her sphere and the game's backdrop are set in a world with a cyberpunk aesthetic. In other words, when the game is finished, we can glimpse the woman taking off her VR headset. Interrupted by thirst, she will get a drink and then put on her helmet and continue the game, the game she plays we play.
The game has two spheres or realms, so to speak: the world of the woman and of the game. It's not a bad idea to conceive two superimposed spaces. It offers that feeling of immersing ourselves in an introspective way. But here, being inside, it's just a game that distracts the character without knowing what its context or story is like. The art design borrows heavily from the usual cyberpunk visual: bright colours and neon lights. A frequent combination prevails between warmth and coldness. The locations are detailed and itemized, they have that shimmer of deterioration and crumple, with a fusion of organic textures and visual aspect linked to the technology. Illumination is adequate in each location. Although sometimes the lights are too dazzling. But it allows us to perceive those details that give that feeling of uncertainty and loneliness.
Regarding the gameplay, it should be noted that we carry a weapon —I think only one— with that futuristic design while the animation consists of energy shots. The enemies act as a kind of zombies and test dummies. There is not much variety of them. They don't have good designs but it makes up for that need to shoot something, to use that energy weapon. Of course they will cause damage. In our passage it will consist of solving some puzzles to continue advancing, we'll frequently run into those enemies. There will not be some checkpoints; but many times we'll have to restart the level because of damage of the enemies. The game has a simple HUD where it shows the amount of life, stamina and ammo. Something simple allows us to see our status.
The idea of the game is to hack. This mechanic is interesting, since it consists of pressing certain buttons (adws, those of movement) according to rhythm of the request and always getting it right. We press a button direction at the exact moment as the time bar runs out. If we fail, it only restarts; it also increases its difficulty. Many of these actions depend on the need to advance in the game: open doors, traps, boxes with supplies, use of some guard turrets. The proposal is interesting. It brings back memories similar to the game called Hard Reset or Observer. Although when we need that ability, sometimes we are surrounded by enemies. That don't show up in many times in a timely manner. Other times it seems to work in our favor. It's likelihood that this ability can be improved and is not a repetitive action.
The game is atmospheric, curious, but lacking in an engaging narrative. Without having many save points the game becomes tedious and unappetizing. Well, it lacks a well-done soundtrack. Only in some intense moments is electronic dark ambient music heard. The music is quite monotonous, it's coalesced with the mixture of environmental-industrial sounds. That makes the game repetitive. There is nothing more to add to the game. Like I said, it's interesting, but over time it becomes routine. I recommend you try the game, buy it at a discount. Hopefully the developers wake up for the progress of this game.
Recommendation: 7/10
Is it worth it ? - Definetly no, the game is about 20- 30 minutes long, but the graphic is really nice.
- Enemies spawning around you, I am not a fan of.
Sadly my recorded video got corrupted or something ( there's only sound and the entire video is only the loading screen ), but the game is still fun, worth it maybe at its 90% off :)
this game is literally just the fantastic sci-fi horror game Observer converted from a tense, moody investigative game to an asset flip FPS. I don't mean that it's similar - I meant that they actual levels of this game are identical to Observer.
If the thing that appeals to you in the description of this game is the grim cyberpunk setting - play Observer. If the thing that appeals to you is the FPS element, play literally any of the absolute bounty of entries into the genre releasing lately. If something else appealed to you - it's not in this game.
This feels like it was created in a weekend. Charging any price at all for it is absolutely criminal. The best thing about this game is that it gives me a real easy answer should I wonder "what's the absolute worst game I've played in recent memory?"
DEVELOPMENT ON THIS IS HALTED
just not very good.
2 levels, 2 'bosses'
3 main enemies - all the same model, just different animation / scale.
1 gun - not very satisfying.
1 grenade - zero impact.
the visuals are quite nice if you like grimey cyberpunk with some bodyhorror but that's just 100% of the assets being taken straight from >Observer.
Charging ~9 bucks for a ~40 minute, essentially concept-demo is not okay in my book.
glad I got this dirt cheap in a sale.
On top, the game is 'abandoned'. no future updates planned - all future work / concepts will go into a different game.
Cool concept executed poorly and cheaply.
Also, the devs abandoned it.
2084 is a 2018 game which borrows heavily story and graphic wise from the ‘Observer’ franchise. In some aspects it could be considered an official sequel though developers have hinted that they plan to take the franchise in a completely different direction with an upcoming PVP ‘The Raid’ due to be released in 2022.
The game was created within 72 hrs by Feardemic https://www.feardemic-games.com/ a subsidiary company of Bloober placing themselves under a challenging time restraint to simply see if it was possible to achieve. This is why the game is short (30 Minutes), not much on offer (3 Levels and an Endless wave mode) and very little to zero follow up correspondence from developers as to what appears to be 2 broken/bugged achievements, ‘Speed Presser’ and ‘Die Like the Rest’.
You follow Laura Lofi Junior researcher for Chiron incorporated who learns that the now dismissed architect of a game which simulates the tenement building in the original ‘Observer’ game has changed the source code in specific places to reveal a hidden message within. Your job is to help Laura play through the game, dispatch the nanophage zombies and hack whatever you can on the way to assist you. You will take on 3 bosses in the game, the tenement server itself, A heavily shielded version of Janusz and the nanophage champion.
To be brutally honest the game is WAY overpriced for what essentially is only 72 hours’ worth of work. Would it not make more sense to lower the price to bare minimum in the hopes of reaching a greater audience? The second thing is the lack of commitment to a product they sell. Customer feedback here is as wilderness as the Serengeti, both in discussion forum and direct email and lastly the leader boards are obviously just a showcase for some hackers. Since the developers have moved on and there is zero deterrence with anti-cheat, it definitely doesn’t fill me with faith that they are planning to make a PVP game. That’s just a, for certain, disaster in the making.
However, the game itself is fun and worthy of a buy when it goes on sale. It also contains some nice new NPC enemies that they created and lets you take a look at a handful of rooms that were not accessible in the original ‘Observer Game’ my personal favourite being the hopscotch room. Sorry I would write more, but I challenged myself to a time restraint to see what I could write in 7 Minutes 20 Seconds in tribute so this will have to do…

It's ok. The graphics are pretty good but the story line makes no sense and it is a very short game. I finished it in under 2 hours.
It's a demo and overpriced ... The game is so short and is supposed to be early access.
What there is , is promising. Question is will it EVER be updated?
Cannot recommend, since the game seems dead.
Bad game with boring shooting, ammo which you burn through in no time and a plug shooter as weapon. Enemies are easy yet hard to avoid in a confined corridors. Worst part is the stupid hacking where you have to press keys in time. The 'fast paced shooter' slogan is even false advertising.
I paid 1.63 euros for this and that was 1.63 euros too much.
Not recommend. Probably top 10 material of worst fps games I own and that says something possessing almost all fps available on Steam.
I like the game mechanics, and I like that the boss fights take some thought. The second boss fight is super challenging, mostly because of adds. The boss mechanic is pretty cool. Third one isn't as difficult, mostly just because it has less adds. I like how challenging the game can be. When you're low on health, the screen distorts and blurs, which is normal for games, but here it when your health is critically low it's so bad it's almost impossible to see, which gets really frustrating when you're trying to make that last shot, or grab some health in a pinch...that part could be improved. Other than that, it just needs more content which i'm sure is on the way. Overall it has a lot of potential, i'd recommend checking it out!
Well at 2$, the game is worth picking up if your a First-Person-Shooter fanatic. Gameplay is very different as you need to shoot wall units to replenish health and ammo. There is a short speed boost key as well.
Worth a buy under 5$ for the sale price.
have to say the reason why i decided to buy this game, because firstly it was cheap as hell only $2.90 AUD and plus it looked pretty good, but when i started to get into it, i was starting to think is this it nothing much here at the moment, but then with in like 10 to 20 mins i started to get into this game with its face paced quick to shoot moments and QTE hacking for ammo and health, but the thing i have to say that really got me appreciating this game overall is the cube like boss thing that shoots out the lasers and then you also have to at one stage of the fight against this cube like boss is hack his shield while he shoots the lasers at you to drop his defensive shield, which makes the game play moment intense and more exciting, so yeah went into this game sort of expecting the worse and having what could have been known as regret and waste of time and 3 bucks, but i have to say i was wrong this game it is actually quite good and worth the purchase, so yeah i think this games potential is going to great as it further develops, so yeah get this game while it is at a hot discount, i highly recommend it
So, the game is a bit barebones and rough around the edges, but I think it has some potential. Unless the concept is the game of your dreams or you want to support the devs, there is nothing wrong with waiting a bit. That said, I will still recommend it at this point. TLDR at bottom.
For one, the cyberpunk aesthetic and atmosphere work pretty great. I was intrigued, and although there isn't much there to satisfy my curiosity I want to see where they go with it and what they do with the mechanics and world they've created.
I could spend a couple of paragraphs talking about the "cons": the shooting is basic, one-ish enemy type, etc but if you're thinking about buying into this, I think we would be better served by talking about what sets 2084 apart.
The unique aspect of the game is on right-click. It shoots out a little bitty light orb allowing you to hack things. There are a range of objects that you can shoot this at to do a variety of things. They are all clearly marked. Regardless of the object, you are required to press an arrow sequence in time to make use of the object (although I'm not sure what screwing this up does, since things still seemed to work when I did). Most things just have 3 arrows, but some items (during boss fights, to progress a level) have more. Time slows down to give you a chance to input it and not die.
There are basics like ammo/health boxes, opening doors etc. In general, most hacked items give you a bit of ammo. Some enemies have TV's on their heads. You can just kill them like normal, or you can "hack" them to freeze enemies in an area. There are washing machines (I think?) that will grow legs and help you out and various other objects that will damage or freeze enemies. My personal favorite are the security cameras that turn into turrets for a bit.
Some bosses require you to hack to open them up to damage.
There isn't a huge variety stuff, but if they beef up what they have: weapons, hackables, story levels I think the game could be pretty fun.
Story time:
I got to the second boss. It takes place in a fairly large open area. He is a big guy that you need to hack his shield to damage (it resets after a time). I was having a lot of trouble and I put the game down for awhile. After stopping, I remembered that I had grenades (middle-click default binding) and I wanted to try again. In addition, I started to make much better use of the various hackables strewn about. It turned a rather drab horde shooter into something a bit more.
I was making the best use of my tools, dodging on cooldown, and hacking everything. I beat it first try.
The idea is cool, the dev team has a pretty solid track record for putting out games. I want to see what they can create.
TLDR:
Bare bones, rough around the edges, but a fun idea that, even in it's short campaign, shows some flashes of brilliance. There is also an endless mode for some basic replaybility.
The game is quite good for such a modest price, there are passages through the walls, murders through the doors, but since the game in the early access is forgivable, I have not yet fully penetrated into the game, but I can immediately say that it pays for its price several times. Recommend.
Love it & this is coming from someone who played 20 minutes of Observer before turning it off, so yeah, I like there to be shooting in my first person games, sorry.
For an Early Access game (which perhaps a lot of the negative reviews here seem to miss) it is a solid hour and a half story campaign and an endless horde mode that's, well, it's in the title lol
The game runs at a solid frame rate throughout, the shooting is fast and accurate and the atmosphere is on point.
That's not to say that it doesn't need work.
So what would I suggest?
The usual; more enemies, more guns, more interesting boss fights (I liked the cube and the dude in the garden, but the last one was just kinda meh)
Definitely need to flesh out Laura more, don't lose her as the main protagonist as there's scope for her f'sure.
I like how you have handled the hacking mini game, maybe have different ones for different situations, not sure, but I like what we have here.
As much as I loved the level design, there's some great visual stimuli to be seen here, the levels need some verticality. I don't expect Mirrors Edge but something more than Serious Sam, y'know?
Considering how bare bones it is now there was a good balance of dystopian cyberpunk tech and body horror atmosphere, so keep going with that, was not expecting the 3 little pigs ;) that section was awesome.
In all, I am happy to support this endeavour, and all I'd want is this, but more of it ;)
the game is kinda cool but in need an upgrade to the main story. I mean add some NPCs, cutscenes and actually the STORY. also it needs a lot of new mechanics because all you do is shooting nanofags. and it would be fking great if it would have a multiplayer (deathmatch and other stuff) maybe somehow in the future.
the setting and style of the game is really unique and please don't turn it in the simulator of killing enemies, make also some unique storyline and gameplay mechanics.
sound and immersion of the game is beautiful, it really keeps you in the dark cyberpunk world.
SO. the game is incredibly unfinished and you can notice it by, like, entering the game.
p.s. I liked it, so good look to the developers at finishing and polishing the game <3
upd: they never updated it
Very fast FPS shooter / zombie mod in cybperpunk world. A lot of fun in endless mode and pretty solid single player. Shooting is smooth and satisfying. I had fun in single player but endless mode is where the real fun and challange begins. It actually requires player to think quick, shoot precisely and to have a good eye to hand coordination (hacking). Definitely worth the money and with updates in the future, with it's potential & mechanics, could possibly be a very fun shoot'n'hack multiplayer/co-op :)
