Played fine for first few missions, then started crashing at "The Bog" Turned off pre rendering of shaders. Problem fixed, game ran smooth for rest of my playthrough. A very nice remaster.
i just wanted to replay the campaign but ive played for about 45 minutes and the rest of my time is dealing with every possible kind of crash. just pirate the game this is ridiculous
If the game crashes try turning off preload shaders in the settings
(Graphics--->Advanced Video--->Shader Preload)
yes, Mile High Club is still a pain in the ass
A game made in 2009 (MW2) runs better on contemporary hardware than this piece of trash. Riddled with launch issues, software bugs (mouse moving on its own, latency issues and just god awful AI) and the game just NOT loading assets when you hit "The Bog" in act 1... nothing is "remastered" other than the look. Everything else is a severe downgrade. Fuck you Activision
Had no problems with the game so far, idk maybe my copy was blessed by Gaben himself and that's why no bugs.
The game itself is fantastic, but it is literally unplayable without doing some tweaking on your end to get it to run, and the devs are too lazy to fix it.
Edit: Had to refund the game. The game also crashes and gets stuck on loading. Don't waste your money on this.
Im writing a review on my playthrough back at 2017
it was so much fun + shipment and the remastered campaign
I really enjoyed it and wished the playerbase wouldn't of died out with time
Buy this game NOW. I paid full price a few weeks ago because I wanted to get on ASAP before Activision do something scummy again, but get it now along with the map pack (required to play those maps with the mod) while it's on sale. You may be thinking why? Is he a COD shill? No, absolutely not, this company sickens me, HOWEVER, HorizonMW (built off H2M) is available right now.
This is essentially a mod that combines this game with an OG MW2 and MW3 remaster. Playing this mod takes me back to high school. The player base is active but still growing. Now is the best time to experience it as you never know what these people are going to do.
It doesn't even launch correctly. It's a pile of garbage.
did all achievements in 5.4 hours, not that hard, not hard at all. Game is fantastic, of course!
Bought it disregarding reviews. Which sadly was a mistake.
At a certain level, I dont recall if number 5 or 6, the game just gives up on working. Nothing ive tried will make it work past that level. Real shame. Sorry I dont remember but i bought this a while ago and refunded, seen it on sale again and can see that i can review. I still want it, but a working version :(.
I love this game with a passion but god I felt my soul died when I played mile high club on veteran. Its definetly worth going back to just for fun and to complete fully but be prepared for a whole lot of pain, cursing and a lot of frustration if you play on veteran.
I loved this game so much. I got all of the achievements a month or so ago, and I loved every second of playing this game. It has nice graphics, a great story, good weapons, a really nice soundtrack and good characters. I FULLY recommend this game.
This is a fantastic remaster and would be highly recommended if the game was playable upon purchase. Unfortunately, it's completely broken and cannot even be launched without downloading a missing file from a third party website. Yes, it's a five minute fix, but the whole ordeal turns off most people from playing it. It would be a five minute fix for the developers too, if they cared about their products and those who play them. Unfortunately, parent company Activision isn't a serious company, so they've left this game completely broken for over half a decade because they're too lazy to release an extremely easy hot-fix, and yet somehow still have the cajones to charge 40 fucking dollars for it.
On top of that, there's plenty of annoying bugs, such as a cutscene that crashes the game for everyone. The console version does not have any of these problems. It's just another example of PC being a mere afterthought for Activision. So while it's generally a really well-made remaster, I strongly discourage anyone from buying it. Activision is a pathetic company, and the fact they've become the laughing stock of the gaming industry is fully warranted.
AI is overly reliant on monster closets and grenades
The game that changed not only COD, but FPS forever. Still amazing to this day. Best COD campaign. Online multiplayer set the standard.
Nobody is playing the multiplayer, but you can set up a private match with bots. And the bots are really good with difficulty choices.
For whatever reason the game would not work. had a bunch of file errors. i fixed one and another popped up. I was only trying to play the story. One of my friends said he had the same issue. ended up getting a refund. I will play the file explorer game when modding minecraft but I'm not going to do this for a AAA game that's years old and should be patched
As far as Remasters go its not... Bad? It's all things considered, the Original Modern Warfare with better graphics & Frame rate. However, it does come with lots of optimisation issues, campaign levels taking forever to load being one.
Is it worth the £35 Price tag? No
Then again, I haven't touched the multiplayer remaster, so who knows?
Still worth waiting for a Sale, though.
Took about 14 Hours to 100% the Game, but did play the og so knew how too.
TLDR: Decent Remaster, but not worth the price/ Wait for Sale.

The visual overhaul makes it worth playing if you have already purchased it along with Infinite Warfare however the campaign, at least on PC, is severely bogged down with many glitches, crashing, slow loading on cutscenes that it makes it very hard to play through. The multiplayer is fine, but they absolutely butchered it with the predatory "gear" system in which you essentially need to pay real money in order to get any of the new weapons.
Multiplayer is not dead. You can find lobbies in the evening time. Only TDM. We save the legacy of this game.
No bug / problem from my side, it works normal.
It kept crashing on startup until I pulled a big-brain workaround: booted into Windows Safe Mode, launched the game, switched it to windowed mode, then rebooted back into normal mode. Worth noting, getting into Safe Mode on Windows 11 is an needlessly complicated process, which made the whole thing exceedingly annoying. But I guess Activision couldn't possibly spare half a day's work of a single dev to fix this in the last decade, when they have all those AI-generated skins to work on.
Even after all that, the game still crashed a couple levels in, and continued to crash every time I tried to load that level.
At that point, I gave up. Not worth the hassle, especially when the original runs just fine on Xbox via backwards compatibility. You're basically paying fifty bucks for a broken mess just to get some shinier (but already dated) graphics, when you could be playing the original and saving that money for something much more pleasant, like a day at the spa or a Cornetto.
I'll be taking my refund now, thank you.
This is a very solid and underrated remaster for the original MW game.
It was a pleasure revisiting some of my favorite missions in COD history, especially during the second act (Heat, All Ghillied Up, One Shot, One Kill).
Definitely recommend ^^
Pros:
✅ Very good story.
✅ Improved graphics.
✅ Addictive gameplay.
✅ Veteran difficulty is challenging.
✅ Achievements.
Cons:
❌ Endless grenade spam has also been remastered.
❌ Official and H1 servers are mostly inactive in 2025.
❌ Severe compatibility issues (the game may not launch at all on Windows 11).
Its just remaster version of old CoD MW4, nothing much except you get good graphics to play. They are just the same campaign. And i dont find any bugs or error so far on my side. Get it if you want to complete your CoD collections.
literally unplayable, crashes regardless of what i do after the 3rd mission
How much does Price get paid to deal with all this shit? He should ask for a raise, or a promotion at the very least. Dude gets stuck as Captain for an entire trilogy.
Obviously Modern Warfare is a cinematic masterpiece and singlehandedly spawned some of the best shooters of all time that being said the game wears its age the flinch when you get shot is crazy and the gun sights are a bit iffy especially the holo sight all of this was improved in the sequels but thats not why i give this a thumbs down cos for 2007 this game plays brilliantly compared to other unwieldy shooters of the era like medal of honour and homefront. I give this a negative cos it runs like garbage its not even worth trying to explain why its just awful requiring safe mode and to diasable shader loading not to mention its making my gpu cry despite being on medium settings, while it looks pretty just play the original one id bet that runs better or play this on a console i had 0 issues on Xbox 8 or so years ago. the multiplayer is bad as well even when it came out it was bad.

At first I only picked up this game for the nostalgia, I remember back when one of my friends recommended me the original modern warfare 2 and that's how I got into call of duty in the first place. Usually most games when they try to make graphics look "good" loose their personality, like how everything from modern warfare 2019 to black ops 6 looks almost the same, meanwhile when you compare the older games like modern warfare 2 to black ops 3 it looks and feels so much more different than the more recent titles, this game however manages to visually look great and not loose its personality. I lowkey forgot how short the story is, the game had me so hooked it kinda didn't matter how short it was. Glad I got back to this game after so many years.

Was hoping for some pleasant 'remastered' nostalgia. Instead, it takes ages to load a level, and often it will just freeze. The best part is that it will also slow down the task manager, making it freeze and crash as well, brilliant. Guess I'll go back to my old, classic and weirdly free Mac version of COD 4. Do not buy this game until they fix this issue, if they fix it......
Edit: Having to download the multiplayer and the campaign is just ridiculous. Secondly, concerning the Mac, I meant that I would rather dig up my old macbook to play this game's unfiltered original than play it remastered on my current PC.
The worst call of duty i ever played i couldn't complete the campaing cuz it was crashing on a fucking loading screen do not buy it is not worth it
game wont even launch. googled all possible fixes and no resolve. waste of money just to relive old times.
Game looks good as a remaster. Nostalgia made me complete it on veteran.
Unfortunately i cannot recommend this game due to a video memory bug where the game wont launch. Had to do my own research and use a random file downloaded from the internet could fix it.
Then on the second to last mission another video memory bug which caused the game to keep crashing until caching shadow maps was disabled.
How can a million dollar company leave these bugs in their game....
8/10 if you're willing to overlook these bugs. Otherwise I wouldn't buy.
If you're coming to the review section and curious if the Crashing Problems have been resolved as of April 15th, 2025, the answer is no. I can't even load into the third mission without GPU drivers failing. This is shamelessly poor quality from a AAA company and Steam should be refunding.
The lighting/shadows show as glitches. It was unplayable and I know they are not going to fix it.
GPU: RX 9070 XT

The remaster looks and feels great—classic campaign, upgraded visuals, and tight gameplay. But the experience is dragged down by serious technical issues.
Campaign missions take forever to load, killing the momentum. Even worse, multiplayer often won’t load shaders, making it completely unplayable for many. For a remaster of such a legendary game, these problems are hard to ignore.
I think this is a good remaster But i recomend turning shader preload OFF in the advanced video options i think it makes the game Crash less and the game looks Amazing note. There is a hidden Desert Eagle in the First Level
Technical Nightmare. Can't reccomend. Just play the original.
My playtime speaks differently to the verdict given by this review, but unfortunately something has changed that has also changed my stance on this game. I used to be able to run the game just fine, but for some reason it stopped working today and will no longer start properly, even though the game was running fine just the day prior. It boggles my mind how Activision, with all their resources, can't properly optimize a game to work. A shame too, as this was one of my favorite ways to play the original Modern Warfare campaign. Hopefully this is somehow fixed soon, whether by a dedicated fan who has more time on their hands or more unlikely, Activision themselves.
not worth the nostalgia, maybe if it was a lot cheaper
Just the right amount of gore. Plenty of weapons. Like the spawning. Good stress reliever.
Sound design blows chunks. you can't hear dogs until they are inside your bum, you can't hear footsteps of enemies, you can't hear a helicopter while its 20 feet away. The definitive deaf person experience.
Have to reconfigure the in game settings by booting your PC in safe mode, just to get it to launch..
Load times are minutes long..
Won't even load a level passed Charlie don't surf..
Eight years on the store and it still doesn't work
My perspective and review for this game won't be a CRAZY in-depth or complex review this time. But anyways, THIS title is without a doubt, definitely and personally one of my FAVORITE and most CHERISHED video games, of all time. (As with tens of millions of others I bet) This game in particular, I cherish very closely similar to its original. (nearly two decades ago now, in 2007) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007 obviously and factually set a new revolutionary standard for both the FPS genre and online multiplayer industry simultaneously. Also, the notable Call of Duty titles ranging from 2005-2015, had taught me a multitude of things I went on to understand and develop decades later, and even still utilize today, to a degree. Now, I won't be nerding out any further on the MEMORABLE, and ICONIC campaign/multiplayer, as it's unfortunately redundant in this case, sorry. (As much as I'd typically love to) Fortunately, Modern Warfare: Remastered ran nearly PERFECTLY fine for me. However, I had eventually experienced a somewhat of a known bug within THIS version of the game, so I had disabled the "shader pre-load" option. Oh, and HEY! DON'T give your money to Activision, UNLESS the game's are on SALE, which they ALL do go on occasionally but MOSTLY periodically! (Selective holidays, Steam sales, or events, etc.) Lastly, I love this game and it breaks the tens of millions of us that we may never live the moments of playing our FAVORITE Call of Duty titles in their prime again. ANYHOW, remain vigilant when dealing with ANY older Call of Duty titles multiplayer such as this. Enjoy the campaign and timeless classic of a game, cheers!
10/10 - RoniiBoi
the game has good story design, good character design, good design in general, what the hell happened to call of duty? this original story and series with the original team was so awesome, now, the original team is gone, we have DEI and LGBT bullshit taking over the game studios and now the new games suck and arent as cool, old games are the best
The remaster is extremely, extremely lazy. They barely changed anything from the original. The gameplay is extremely wonky and dated. I would not recommend getting this unless you're interested in gaming history.
Game is good so far, once the crashes are avoided via settings, the game flourishes. The safehouse mission (after killing the man) is a pain in the ass, swarms of enemies and the friendly AI is as useful as a potato.
This game is good and its not up to par with the OG modern warfare 2 or 3 but this is still one amazing game. the full price of this isnt worth it but when its on sale its definetly worth buying and playing.
Still the best COD IMO. They should have never have gotten rid of the guys that formed the original Infinity Ward. I've had nothing but problems with the new Modern Warfare and was denied a refund, even though every time it patches from EA, it just keeps crashing. Infinity Ward> EA. Stop pushing out new games in ridiculous timelines and they might be worth playing by the time they come out.
