Game itself is very fun, but coop network connection is terrible. Disconnection every 5-10 minutes. Shame I can't get a refund.

Not as good as Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel but its good fun never the less... Gearbox know how to make a quality shooter and I am looking forward to Borderlands 4!

Connection issues randomly prevents players from playing multiplayer. This issue has been widely reported for years and has never been fixed

I really wanted to like this game... even a little. The ending brought a tear to my eye, but everything outside that scene was childish social media level cringe. The writing was absolutely garbage, none of the new characters were remotely likable, and they pushed beloved characters aside for ones that they gave us no reason to like. The villains were cartoonish levels of bad, and not well written. Handsome Jack, was cartoonishly evil, but the writing was good so it made it work, but the twins in this one weren't even interesting. The social media influencer angle was cliche and could have been done well if the writing was better. The graphics were acceptable, but I already had a sour note in my mouth after it being released on another platform and having to wait months for it.

Notice a theme? The writers were absolute failures. Seriously, I'm not sure what your hiring and promotion practice was like but the writing was entirely the failure here. I'm not expecting Shakespeare but a tiny bit of nuance could have made this a great game. You did it before, so it's entirely possible to do corny / comedy in this universe, if you have writers who can make it work. The ones still with the company couldn't and didn't. I'm sorry but not everyone is meant to be a doctor or astronaut... and some people certainly aren't meant to write anything but fan fiction... that's what the writers in this game (and frequently other games lately from AAA) are to a T... failures.

gun shoot good, loot loots good, i like gun, i like shoot, i like loot; good game

The base game was a lot of fun with decent gameplay, a decent story, and plenty of engaging moments. However, the DLCs were a massive letdown—poor writing, lackluster content, and overall not worth the full price. If you're considering it, I'd recommend getting the base game on sale and skipping the DLCs entirely unless ultimate collection is heavily discounted.

Multiplayer is not playable due to lag. Tried to play co-op with a friend, both of us have great Internet and high-end gaming PC's. The lag was so bad no matter who hosted. Tried port forwarding, that seemed to make it worse if anything. Disabled cross-play and social notifications with no improvement.
Won't be getting Borderlands 4 if this issue that has plagues the series is just going to carry over.

The most cringe dialogue you'll ever find in a game. Unless you're five years old, it's really hard to stomach it.

Would be a solid game had they not added cross-play in such a terrible way. Basically broke co-op and made playing with friends miserable.

Honestly, they should have stopped releasing merchandise after Borderlands 2, or at least Borderlands 3. At this point, I’m not even that excited about Borderlands 4. The trademark silliness that the series relies on seems to lose its charm over time. What once felt quirky and fun now feels repetitive and cringe. That said, if you’re looking for something to play with friends, it’s still a safe choice—it’s not bad.

Awesome gun-play and progression systems, but one of the worst endings to a story ever!

i absolutely love borderlands 2 but this game has so many glaring issues i am surprised there were people who were paid to make some of these decisions, it almost feels like they were trying to sabotage the game

1. sanctuary is the worst home hub i have ever used in any video game. Multi layered maze where nothing makes sense where it is, just a dull ship that feels soulless with bad lighting, absolutely horrible home hub and nothing in comparison to borderlands 2

2. the story is so god awful and the writing is so horrid, it feels almost like some over the top sarcastic humor is trying to be forced. I have to play the game on mute or else i will literally die of cringe. The villians in this game are nothing compared to handsome jack, it almost feels like they are evil for the sake of being evil, and this whole streamer thing just feels stupid. it feels like they are trying so hard to be relevant

The actual gameplay feels good, i would say similair to borderlands 2, but the glaring issues make it feel so hard to grind through this game. It's a shame and i have 0 hope for borderlands 4 following this.

edit: difficulty slider is the volume, if you skip cutscenes, turn dialog volume to 0 and just enjoy the gunplay its tolerable

What to expect as a former Borderlands player?
Blood? Laughs? Lots of talking in-game? Max level 72? Yup, it is all here! Claptrap is here to annoy the hell out of you whilst deliver its usual punchlines. Story line feels weaker than what you have experienced in previous games, but it is still the Borderlands type of game you expect. Grind your way through Mayhem levels one by one to understand the mechanics, or just jump to Mayhem level 10/11 whilst playing the song "dumb ways to die" in the background.

What to expect as a new player?
Make sure you are comfortable and get ready for some hours of interesting story line, terrible punchlines and lore. Pick up any weapon you like and start shoot to loot cause that is the only way to survive. Feel the satisfaction when mobs and bosses drop your item.

Tldr; great game for value to get along with its DLC's as a bundle once it is on sale. Turn off your brain, put some music in the background and have fun shoot to loot!

Scumbag game keeps releasing DLC not included in ultimate edition/complete packs. Every time I look I have to buy another DLC despite being informed that I would own everything. This would be a positive review if I could refund and buy the whole game in go.

Game too short, but damage=good just like Warframe 10/10 game of all time would recommend it is like this one but in 3rd person.

This game is absolutely terrible. Borderlands 2 was such a tremendous game and then the devs got rid of everything that made that game great. Dialogue is the actual worst part of this game. I challenge everyone out there to go try to play this game with the dialogue on and not get cancer. That's right... it wont happen. Good characters we all loved from Borderlands 2 are killed in this game because the new "main character" is braindead. Some little bratty kid that magically gets appointed to the leader of the Crimson Raiders. The main villans "Tyreen" and "Troy" are the same way. The last 2 boss fights are extremely cringe between character design and voice lines. ALL things considered, I do enjoy the guns in this game a little more than Borderlands 2. I played this game co-op with a friend which made it bearable. TLDR REALLY shitty borderlands 2. Make sure you turn that dialogue off and play co-op

fun game. Great game to play with some friends. The gun progression is also very cool.

simple dumb fun, great way to relax after a long day. Don't really care that the story is stupid and annoying, i'm not paying attention anyway. The characters talk so much that your brain starts to tune it out pretty quickly and it just becomes part of the ambiance. Looks beautiful and runs fantastically, probably the best $6 I've spent on gaming in a while

This game is a lot of fun! I love the graphic that sort of combines cartoon fiction and reality. Gameplay is extraordinarily exciting especially the variety of guns and visual effects really satisfy me. The loot system is quite good consider how balance legendary weapon drop rate is.

it's aight, it's more of the same but with more obnoxious bad guys and fewer iconic moments/characters
kinda feels like they're trying to blend nostalgia for the old characters with the "annoying streamer" stereotype for the main antagonists

A phenomenal installment in an incredible series, a game that got a bad wrap from release which was undeserved and disappointing. Facing the difficulty of following the story of bl2 this game delivers, a story that works well with missions and opens the series to more adventures and adversaries compared to its predecessor. Yet where this game shines is its fluid and endlessly fun gameplay opening new routes for more explosive action, more skills, and even more loot than any game in the series. Endless replayability with fantastic classes and even crazier guns to compliment, interesting enemies and inventive but classic boss fights, this game is a classic, a game to return to again and again. Something to recommend for years to come.

Terrible Game. I'm not going to pretend that Borderlands 1/2 were the pinnacle of game design, but they were still decent games that were enjoyable to play through. 3 is not. The base gunplay is serviceable, but theres nothing new here. Pre-sequal at least tried something different with the low grav stuff, but theres no attempt to shake up the gameplay beyond "shoot enemy who is standing still". Enemies all feel the same, and are dealt with in the same ways. Gun rarites are messed up, even at low levels Legendaries are too common which makes other weapons obsolete.

The writing is truly abysmal. Borderlands 1/2 certainly had lots of wacky humor, but they had enough serious stuff to prevent the tone from going complete clown fiesta. In 3 there is no "straight man", everyone is a clown. This could maybe be salvaged if the game truly embraced lunacy, but it does not and still tries to have a conventional plot despite not a single character inside of it taking anything seriously. Dialogue is poorly written, and there are glaring plot holes everywhere. Delivery on jokes is often poorly timed, with too much leaning on Marvel style "WOAH THAT JUST HAPPENED"

Theres random stuff that is just poorly designed. The UX is a massive step down from Borderlands 1/2, using the map takes so many unnecessary button presses until you get to what you want. Your inventory only ever displays a small amount of items at a time which makes looking through it annoying. Manually comparing items defaults to a random item in your inventory instead of something equipped. Teammates going down has no audio/visual notification, just their status changing in the tiny bottom left of your screen. It really feels like there was no real playtesting for any of these basic UX functions that anyone competent would notice immediately.

It's a shame the gameplay is only ok and everything else is terrible, because the soundtrack is good with multiple unique battle tracks fit for each zone. There are some very good visuals, its clear a lot of effort went into certain shots to make gorgeous vistas.

Overall I cannot recommend this game to anyone, I think its a downgrade from Borderlands 2 in almost every way.

Game is pretty fine, but holy fucking shit the npcs literally tell you the solution to puzzles before you've even managed to orient yourself to solve it. In 15 fucking seconds they go "WYh DoN'T yOu JuST JUmp SlAM thAt, MAYBE IT OPENS THAT WAY"

Holy shit this pisses me off.

Perfect game to pass time but also very enjoyable to grind out a solid couple hours or more doing side quests or main campaign; all you need is the base game but if you decide after completing 100% of the game, then I'd say grab the DLC's (when they're on sale).

Is good if you get the base game and the DLC's cheap. I only paid ~$30 for all of it.

Game is good, gunplay is on point. It deserves an award for the cringiest pair of villains in the history of video games.

As a game, it's okay. As a Borderlands game, I'd rank it as being below the Pre-Sequel.

The guns aren't as strong, the bad guys feel more like a statement than a threat, the characters feel more like hollow versions of themselves (especially Ellie and Moxxi) than they did in Borderlands 1 or 2.

I love the franchise and found the story in solo mode really good. It was nearly unplayable in Multiplayer, however.

If you're looking for a good Borderlands game, go play 2 again. Or 1. But skip this one.

Great improvement in gameplay vs Boderland 2, but the Soul and Story completely Gone

This is a good game, but as a huge fan of BL2, its really hard for me to enjoy with the bad writing. The gameplay and movement is an overall improvement but i dont personally like the environments nearly as much as BL2, and BL2 had just as much or more variety in the areas compared to this game despite having different planets to explore. The vault hunters are honestly pretty boring in their personality. Moze is basic and boring, and Amara can't stop talking about punching things, which is somewhat standard compared to the other games but its more evident and annoying in this game. Moze is a fun character to play, and is who i played on my first playthrough, this time i chose Amara and honestly i find her somewhat weak and boring compared to the others. Her grasp and orb are finicky, the grasp tends to fail if youre not directly on the enemy, and also has a range limit thats pretty low. The amount of enemies that actually can be grasped is pretty annoying too. The orb gets stuck on everything so its pretty much useless in more cluttered areas. That was my experience with it anyways. I do like the customization of the skill trees and think its a neat concept. I look forward to trying Zane and Fl4k at some point but the story is such a drag to get through that i'm not sure when i'll actually feel like going through it again. The DLCs are better, but not amazing, and the same goes for the writing in them. But sadly youre not going to find Tiny Tinas Attack on Dragon's Keep or Claptastic Voyage levels of an experience. There's also the issues with legendaries, i just don't truthfully love most of them? I feel like for them to be legendary i should definitely be able to tell a notable gimmick or ability with them and for a lot of them they just felt like a slightly stronger regular gun which is boring, it also doesnt help that they hand out legendaries like candy and all other rarities of weapon become pretty useless fast. Anyways, its a good game, a good game thats hard for me to play as such a big Borderlands 2 fan, so if you havent played the other games I think its definitely better to play those first.

I would love to see better writing, more interesting vault hunters, and a better loot system for Borderlands 4, but i think with the end of BL3 directors cut that they can pull off a decent story.

The story (so far, at least) is not as bad as people claim it to be but the gameplay is... people weren't kidding when they said it was good. That's an understatement. The movement, the gun feel, vehicles, everything else - just feels... nice.

The OST is also way better than it needed to be! Give it a listen on YouTube or Spotify or... somewhere else.

You can't go wrong with this game - especially on sale. At the time of review, the base game is going at 90% off (though I bought the Pandora's Box collection a long while ago).

This game has more improvements since bl2, more loot and guns (too many), new elemental damage type, action skills expanded, added new vehicles. Also there are more planets to explore, not only Pandora and with DLCs were added few more places. About cons are, story telling may seem boring with too many dialogues, feeling like doing side quests is more fun and this game has less boosting levels unlike previous games of series.

I loved Handsome Jack, memorable villian from this series, and here we have new villians the Calypso Twins with a new faction. They are also cool, but ain't like Jack. Every Borderlands game has DLCs with more stuff, locations and new bosses, this one is not an exception. DLC Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot offers to raid casino and other DLCs have many references to bl2, nice to see that the game doesn't forget about its roots.

Despite everything this is an awesome game in bl universe and sequel which continues story of Crimson Raiders this time against new threat with fun gunplay and like bl2 and pre sequel this one also gave a lot of memories which I spent with my friends back in the days

If you can put aside the TERRIBLE story and the ridiculous amount of people that are now Sirens in this universe then the game is excellent. All the mechanics are buttery smooth and bosses are never ending fun. I advise to put it on your wishlist as it regularly goes on sale. Picked up the version with ALL DLC for $16.

Does some things better than BL2, does some things worse. Overall it is an outstanding experience worth your time. Grab the ultimate edition it usually goes on sale dirt cheap.

Borderlands is a shoot and loot, and it can be very fast I love the pace and I like that it constantly feels like the story is progressing.

honestly, borderlands is a game i'll never forget. great emotional storytelling, great playstyle for players, great game overall. I found this game slightly less grindy as borderlands 2 but both of these games are great!!!

This may be the most fun I've ever had in a game. The irreverent humour is priceless. The art style is gorgeous. The missions are fun and challenging. But the guns - omg the guns are amazing!!!

not bad, the game is okay. the only thing that confuses me is the map and its not beginner friendly. i really had to use all of my brain just to figure out whats happening around the map. fast travel UI is quite hard if you're not mmorpg type of person. animations and graphics are nice and i liked it. assault rifles and laser weapons are absolute garbage, i only used pistol and shotgun the entire game since it's damage does a lot in the game. and one more thing boss fights, raids and hordes are amazing in the game eventho i lost count how many times i died while playing. overall its a good game i might give it a 7/10

This is one of the most visually-pleasing and aesthetic games ever. The shooting and gameplay is so fun and addicting. I love this game so much!

Compared to BL2:
- More diverse equipment, enemies, cars, gunplay (guns have bigger variety of features).
- Better sounds.
- Partially destructible covers.
- Better skill trees and action skills system.
- Better navigation & map.
- Easier enemies, stupid enemy AI.
- Bosses are simpler + harder. They feel like arcade bullet hell.
- Loot is garbage. Just putting bigger fraction of items under high-rarity labels - that's a dirty trick. 95% of legendary items are trash.
- Vending machines can be useful at least in the early game this time.
- Worse level design (arenas + enemies). Missions feel like grindy, arcade chores.
- Color palette tries to be vivid but ends up dull. Harder to distinct needed objects and enemies from backgrounds.
- Light effects are eye-burning. This trick must compensate how dull the fights are.
- Lots of bugs.
- UI is still console-first, because we PC gamers are second-class citizen.
- UI is worse. Vending machines' UI is a sick joke.
- Plot is AI level of trash.
- Humor is AI level of boring.
- Verbal diarrhea everywhere. Nobody can shut up. Writers were paid for quantity of words?
- Enemies have BIG heads. Without that, sniper rifles would be unbearably useless. Was this a trick too?

Tricks and disrespect. In the end, this is a rushed substitute of a Borderlands game. Proper challenge is just substituted with bullet hell. Borderlands' iconic madness is substituted with screams and nonsense. Legendary rarest loot - with legendary tier garbage. Story - with a fan fiction. Humor - with self-deprecation. Iconic characters - with self-referential morons. Badass bosses - with massive HP bags spitting fireballs. Charismatic villains - with first-draft sketches of 3 brats named Troy, Tyreen and Ava.

Just go replay BL2

While this game is not as good as previous installment in terms of storyline for several reasons:
1. Main antagonists are way too goofy and onedimensional;
2. Many old characters like Mordekai, Brick and Tiny Tina and some others don't add much to the storyline and act more like background characters;
3. Writing of Ava;

It still provides great visuals and has replayability as well as great soundtrack.

The Borderlands series is always fun, and while this story is not really up to par with the previous three it's still really good and fun so I would recommend

Handsome jack never shut up but at least he was written well and it wouldn't lock you to an area forever until the dialogue is over.

great game tbh. but game couldnt save settings on heroic launcher and lost a level 14 siren then got b3 on steam and have now lost a level 36 operative to what i believe is a corrupted save. now i am going to cry myself to sleep.;(

Not the best in the series, but its still good. Graphics and gameplay are perfect, performance wasn't too bad, but the story was where it was lacking a little bit for me. I didn't hate or love the main villains and I think that was the problem. There is also soooo much content compared to BL1 and BL2 which I appreciate a lot.

If you're coming from BL2:

Better: more (and more diverse) weapons, improved gunplay, many quality of life improvements (auto collect money, ammo, optionally auto-sell gear of certain rarities on pick-up, scale coop game enemy and loot drop level for each player individually, optional individual loot drops, quick travel from anywhere...)

Worse: petty villains and negligible story arch with too many forced twists, somewhat overinflated drop rates, chaotic visual effect overload in 4 player coop games, large and intricate maps combined with a subpar mini map which regularly leads to getting lost on a way to a mission marker.

Summary: I recommend buying a bundle on sale. DLCs are hit and miss and not worth purchasing individually but offer a fair amount of additional gameplay as part of large bundles like Pandora's Box.

Liked it, was really fun especially (late) mid game but after finishing the story / late game it became pretty boring for me.

While the weapons have been improved, and the classes and skill trees have some interesting mechanics to them, the game is far too short compared to Borderlands 2.
I can't even talk about the story, because it's that bad, and that's setting aside the whole DEI thing where they took a royal dump on existing characters while proping up woke ones. Don't get me wrong, new characters are fine, but this destruction of existing characters is just uncalled for (not just death, but butchering of the living characters as well).

All in all, I can't say how much of this game's failure was SweetBabyInc and how much it was due to bad writing.

There are good sections of combat, but the game feels less interconnected than Borderlands2 with its areas.
