This TOS/EULA change poses a real threat to your online safety. No game is worth exposing your identity, finances, and digital life to this level of risk.

My take on these terms of service changes is that I now have more hard drive space and I will not be playing another Borderlands game until these terms are changed. This also extends to the majority of Take-Two published games. Welcome to my shit list Take-Two, you've earned it.

All borderlands games have been deleted after the new predatory take 2 TOS release. Can't play any of the games now without giving away all your data which can also be shared with their business partners. Spyware levels of data collection.
Played the hell out of all of the games, around 7k hours across various platforms and was looking forward to 4. Not anymore. Games uninstalled, future purchase plans cancelled.

Now that that's cleared up. The review..

The only redeeming quality this game has is its sound track (Which is absolutely amazing).
Everything else about it is a soulless husk of its former self.

The writing is worse than nails down a chalkboard. They somehow made claptrap one of the least annoying characters in this game, when his core personality trait is being the single most tone deaf and insufferable character in the entire Borderlands franchise.

The endless obsession the writing team has with scat, poop, shit, turds, farts and feces is mind numbing.
They literally cannot go 5 mins without bringing it up.

I have laughed maybe 3 times in my 40+ hours of playing. This game is barren of any real comedic value..
And it's like a joke a min, at times every 30 seconds...

The only reason I am making an attempt to finish this game is because I have 100%'d every Borderlands game before it.
But this will be my last.
Unless something dramatically changes in Borderlands 4 (And the Spyware is removed from all of their games) I will not be giving this company any more of my time or money.

If you like eating from the slop trough, This is the game for you..
But if you value your time, effort, energy and brain cells? Do yourself a favor and spend them somewhere else...

I've been a huge fan of Borderlands since the first game. I remember reading about it in magazines when it still had realistic graphics. I've played every Borderlands title on multiple console generations and now on PC too. I had just finally picked up Borderlands 3 and Wonderlands. Was really looking forward to playing this one.

In case you aren't aware: Gearbox sold out to Take Two in 2024, and now Take Two is harvesting all of your data. This isn't just having your email and where you are. They are taking your username, your location, your email, your browsing history, and even your PASSWORDS. This agreement shouldn't even be legal, and if you're like me and just hit "accept" because that's just what everyone always does, then you waived any right to sue them for this blatant violation of privacy.

Fuck you Take Two

The new terms of service includes criminal levels of spyware, they now want to collect all possible information on you and actively hunt modders.

It is horrifying that this is legal and this is such a huge overstep of consumer rights that I can already smell a class action lawsuit coming, especially for EU citizens.

2K are legitimately evil. Support nothing they publish.

Cant recommend due to new TOS. also gearbox ruined Risk of Rain 2. So I cannot recommend their company for messing with a game I had 500+ hours in.

Also the story/dialogue is annoying in this one.

BL3 Had A rough ride eversince its debut. However with time, [Due to patches, dlc+the community mods/fixes] the game was in a passable state.

Ofc the story is ass, Dialogue Skip mod Is necessary to ignore cringy dialogues and advance faster.

And i had a good time with the game. learning how to find my gears was the best part of this experience.

But OF COURSE Randy HAD to pull a new magic trick out of his ass with Takes 2 and put out a TOS that litterally is SPYWARE.

The story is the epitome of Millennial writing and I hated it, especially the ending which made me want to Kurt Cobain myself because of how cringe it was.

The characters in the game NEVER SHUT THE F*** UP!
I found myself picking up my phone between missions because of how much yapping they do.
Not even just main missions, side missions will have you standing there for what feels like 5 minutes until eventually the game is like "okay now go kill 10 skags or whatever and retrieve this item" really cool game in the time I wasted listening to some of the worst writing in a video game I've ever heard I could have done that and the entire game is like this.
It kills the flow of the game and for me kills any and all replayability these series is supposed to have.
Just let me talk to a NPC and give me the waypoint marker straight away and tell me what to do, instead of making me sit through this garbage writing.

Don't even get me started on Eva, she is the worst and I hate her so much.
Why the writers thought it'd be a good idea to have her get Maya killed who is a fan favourite character of the BL series is beyond me.
She is the Rey (mary sue) of the Borderlands games which honestly seems to be a common thing the writers were trying to push for all of the female characters in this game.
Especially Lilith who felt like more of the main character than you the player do and the ending of the game really cements that sentiment by making it all about Lilith who sure I love from BL1 but am I not the main protagonist?
Is this not my story and my adventure?

It's just terrible writing, girl boss, power fantasy BS that millennial writing is known for.
Devoid of soul and heart and more focused on ticking as many boxes as possible to meet the DEI quota for this release.

That all aside, yes this game is basically spyware now due to a update in their EULA, plenty of Youtube videos can explain why a lot better than I can but why does Randy Pitchford need to see my browsing history and know identifying information about me such as my location and IP address.
Yeah just that alone is a hard AVOID this game all together.

Negatives aside there is positives.
This is a Borderlands game and one of the most fun looter shooters I've ever played.
In the times I was not sitting through the slog of diaglog and borderline cringe one liners that is.

Running around and blasting enemies with a shotgun, blowing s*** up with moxis bouncing pair (yes there's a grenade called that and it's amazing) and specking into different builds was a lot of fun and the sense of progression and power was amazing.
I really had a fun time and from a pure gameplay stand point this is one of the best Borderlands games I've played and if you can find this on sale for £5 like I did and you don't mind Randy Pitchford stealing your data it's worth picking up.
Use the money you save picking it up on sale to grab a bottle of your favourite liquor a pack of smokes and a few sick bags because you'll need it to get through how bad the writing is in this game.

Sadly you can't shoot Eva in the face, trust me I've tried.

I will not accept Take Twos dystopian TOS. The level of information they want over a video game is a huge red flag with so many company servers getting hacked these days. It has aged like a satire of the era it was written in and included punishment push ups before Dragon Age Veilguard, but hey it ain't the Borderlands movie! Still it was living rent free in me 'ead and now I can say I am on the Borderlands died side of the fan base

1. Gameplay -> Divine. Feels like angels forged these guns themselves. They explode, they scream, they make glorious loot fountains erupt when u blast psychos. Top-tier shooty-bang-bang...

2. Story -> Imagine the most annoying TikTok influencers got superpowers and decided to start a death cult. Yeah...
Prepare for cringe and a plot that makes u miss Handsome Jack dearly.

3. Then there's Ava -> She's like that one quest NPC u have to escort, but instead of just being slow, she actively drains ur will to live with every line. If Claptrap is the annoying but occasionally charming robot uncle, Ava is the cousin who breaks your favourite toy and blames u for it.

Wish you met Ava in the first 2 hours window, so you could return the game without any problems

If someone can make a more annoying and dumb character than Ava you'll honestly impress me, I hate seeing her, I hate listening to her smoothbrained lines, you could delete her and the game would not lose any value whatsoever.

played this game when it first came out for a full playthrough and leveled to 46. Got bored of it and uninstalled. Re downloaded it and gave it another chance and it legit put me to sleep. Such a step down from Borderlands 2.

Written by a 12 years old kid who desperately tries to get some attention by turning EVERY single line into forced humour. It's never funny, it's childish and immature. I get that they are targeting a young audience but there is no structure to the writing, no goals, no purpose, just forced jokes after forced jokes followed by forced jokes..

Thank god you can turn the dialogue volume off, I have never experienced such obnoxious writing, it's like listening to a child with insecurities trying to be funny... it's not.

Writing and Dialogue are absolutely, god forsaken awful. Like, the worst of the worst BY FAR. You don't need to make a streamer and influencer a villain by making them commit atrocious acts, being a streamer and influencer is by far the most evil thing you can do as a human being. Besides, this game gave us Ava, what's posssibly the worst character ever made in any game, except for very, VERY specific cases. They dedicated an entire DLC to try and get people to at least understand where she comes from, but it only made it worse. AS-TOUNDING.
Gunplay is still pretty good, and skills and character classes still are fun.
So, why the thumbs down? To make the game passable, you'll need to turn dialogues to zero. Or do a bit of file modifying by deleting all the character audios, but even then it will never take away the fact that this is the worst, no questions asked, by far, Borderlands ever made. Story and character wise.

I've been putting this review off for a while.

Honestly I can't recommend this one.

I loved Borderlands and Borderlands 2 (Played both on Playstation back in my high school days). Borderlands 2 was particularly fun with it's comical writing and amazing dlcs. Loved Tiny Tina's dlc.

I managed to make it 20 hours into Borderlands 3 and realised I wasn't having fun. Maybe it's because of the awful writing of the annoying villains or the lack of any real innovation from Borderlands 2. Maybe I didn't pick up the right class for a better experience. Maybe I was disappointed by loot. Maybe it was because every mission felt like a pointless fetch quest. Maybe the side characters weren't as interesting or as wacky as previous side characters. Maybe the abilities and ultimates of my character felt a big lacklustre.
Or maybe I simply didn't give the game a better chance.

All I know is that for the foreseeable future, I don't see myself reinstalling this one.

I know this game is considered a classic and is loved my many. But for me it is incredibly boring, and i can't really for the life of me bring myself to play through the beginning area. It feels more like the entire game revolves around the level and rarity around the guns. Wich severely lowers the skill celing to play the game and brings down the actual "fun" meter for me. and it really dosn't cut it for me. But what do i know?
You should probably test it for yourself before you state your opinion.

It blows my mind how, on the surface, these games look like they should be creative and inventive over the top wild fun, but they're just so boring, slow, and such a slog.

it feels so cheesy. none of the characters have any dept and the game leans into the silly vibe but it fails to entertain. this game's humor from the first 2h i played can be summeaized into 3 words :
"Gross Equals funny"
i would give the game a chance and keep playing but this game does a good job of showing what it's all about in the first hour the gun play is not satisfying and if you don't have a millennial's early 2000s sense of humor u just wont like it.

If you can get past the cringe dialogue Borderlands 3 is a really fun shooter with a plethora of worthwhile content on offer, there's a ton of cool loot/gear to acquire, the characters are all unique and fun to play.

The gameplay in general just feels so much smoother and faster than previous entries. The driving/vehicle combat is still as awful as ever but besides that I have no other complaints here.

As I said already the writing isn't good but it's also pretty easy to stomach/get through most of the time, especially if you're in co-op. It's also mostly the main story that has the worst dialogue and writing, the DLCs are much more tame in that regard. You definitely shouldn't let this stop you from trying out the game if you were interested in the gameplay but hesitating until now.

I also have no technical issues to report, the game ran smoothly and without any crashes throughout my entire playtime.

Was enjoying the game, got into the level 20s and then the game started having an error. The game would starting resetting my computer system, which annoys me most because i was really getting into the game

Horrible story suffering from bad pacing and writing, but the gameplay and the vault hunters are fun. 5.8/10

I could never in my right mind recommend this to anyone. While the combat is fun, the story and the dialogue is horrible. It's so bad, it isn't even fun to make fun of. It's just so sad...

Storyline may be somewhat AIDS but fun combat and characters.

I love BL2, and I deem it my utmost favorite game of all time. BL3 has some quality of life improvements, and that is the only good thing I can say about it.

The story and the characters are horrible, with not a single male admirable character present. Most characters are annoying, and most deaths are not even characterized properly through the story. These attempted shock value moments are an absolutely amateur approach to creating tension without actually building up to it.

Almost all the levels blend into one another, and they seem AI generated, rather then someone actually sitting down to design them properly. The world is needlessly cluttered without actually giving thought to how to practically place world elements to make some sense and variety. And do not even get me started on the myriad of invisible walls..... The laziest way to deal with "you cannot go there, I will slap you on the wrist."

I have sat down with pain to go through one playthrough so as to prepare for the upcoming BL4, and it has been a torment to finish this excrement. I could really go into intricate detail as to why this is horrendous, but it would turn into a TLDR review.

People don't like this one for the main story, which is kinda valid? I mean its solid but yeah, it doesn't compare to 2. However, the gameplay, settings, UI, events, characters, weapons, variety- literally everything else is better than 2 lmao.
I'd even dare argue the story was enjoyable, villain dialogue corny at some points but they had a handful of funny moments in their defense. Also the settings and world building where super fun and a great time, really fun to explore and do quests in. Definitely worth getting, though I recommend getting the Pandora edition thing so you get all of its content, plus the other games.
Also I want to mention how all of the DLC in this game is AMAZING in all aspects, and quite honestly makes you forget the shortcomings of the main story.

My only complaint is that I wish all Mayhem modes had an option to turn off their modifiers cause they're annoying af lol, tho mode 11 solves this but its only for max difficulty. And some better optimization around sanctuary would be nice.

Also big tip!!! - Turn off volumetric fog in the in-game settings, it tanks your fps and is super ugly.

The writing is TERRIBLE but the actual gameplay is super fun. Ava is hands down the most annoying character in any game ever and it's not even close.

Great game if you completely ignore the Story.

It's solid enough if you skip as much story as possible, but this is a game that just cannot get out of its own way.

Not good, too much talking, boring unskippable story and bosses are easy. Other borderlands are better, save your money and time, dont play it.

This game is not for everyone. a lot of people will complain about the way the graphics look, and based their opinion on the entire game off of that. The skill trees are awesome. the fast travelling is prime. the map UI is so good. the dialog for all the characters are fantastic, creating humorous moments that get serious fast. If you enough an FPS MMORPG, this is one of them!

The usual Borderlands Mayhem, tropes in the writing are a bit old, but this is still a great looter-shooter

Main story-line is so cringe it wasn't worth paying attention to. The DLC's and side quests on the other hand make the game worth it. There is plenty of content that keep gameplay from getting stale and makes it enjoyable.

better than 2 if you ask me. more boss fights, more customization available. Only thing I don't like so far is how complex the maps can be sometimes, and that eridium is no longer used to upgrade your storage and ammo count

This game is underrated and over hated. Is the writing as great as 2? No. You'd find few who would say it is. Is the writing bad though? Also no. People complain about the potty humor in this game, but choose to forget Borderlands has ALWAYS had potty humor. The villains are also not terrible as people like to say. Two psychopaths creating a hit livestream for torturing people is one of the most Borderlands things ever.

The biggest thing this game does for the franchise is making the gunplay feel truly good for the first time ever. Guns actually shoot where you expect them to. It feels like a modern game. The improved variety of your active abilities is something that I really hope to see added upon in 4. I know a criticism that isnt uncommon is that 3 is much easier than the other entries. While this is true, for those who continue after the campaign, you have 12 different difficulty levels you can play on, including the base difficulty. Each makes the game harder, adds modifiers, and increases loot value.
