Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is a good game, but a bad Borderlands.

The gameplay is crisp and represents a clear improvement on Borderlands 2. Firearms are very pleasant to use, aesthetically pleasing and even more varied. Character movement is much more responsive and precise, as you can now climb over ledges and obstacles. Graphics are a net improvement, although I miss the goofy fluids and fabrics physics. All in all, the core gameplay elements are rock-solid.

What's more disappointing, and clearly worse, is everything that made Borderlands 2 so special: its humor, story and writing...
Borderlands 3 is what you get if you ask a bunch of suits to try and copy what made 2 so funny, and push that a little further. Problem is, they don't understand what made it funny.
It's not well-paced and tries way too hard, too often. The only up-side is that player characters are given more lines, making them feel more involved.
And the number one villains? Cringe does not even begin to describe them. They'll never make a better villain than Handsome Jack it seems.

If you look past that, Borderlands 3 is still an enjoyable game.

Love the game, Have played these games forever and will continue to play till I am 6 feet under, and if they have borderlands available in hell, I will play it there too.

Literally unplayable without going into your game files and deleting the god awful dialogue.

Way way better graphics than previous game. (Looks good in 2024)
New feel of shooting, the guns feel sharp and better, u feel every bullet.
Every gun and item has a score now and that makes the looting way easier.
You can refill ammo by 1 click.
You can see your hands now, animations for going up/down a ladder and added sliding.
Ragdoll physics are awesome, when you shot something it blows away, the gore and blood spread is fantastic too.
Overall more of the same with better visuals and quality of life improvements.
Definitely %150 worth a buy if you are into Borderlands.
and %99 worth a buy if you are into first person shooters.

Yeah the gameplays good, everything else is real bad, especially the leftist propaganda which they lean into heavily in this game, very dei filled and for that reason i cannot recomend this one. I just want to play a fun game, not get brainwashed.

You guys made one of the best games ever to be made with this one, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY DO NOT ruin the 4th one with DEI shit. My best friend Justin who passed away and I used to play this game for hours and hours after finishing other BL games together and then this one and doing the boss battles, events and DLC's together so many times it was by far our favorite game to play together. I miss him so much and playing this game, hearing the music, seeing the characters is all hard for me even tho the BL games are my favorite series of all time. I played this on Epic Games and then repurchased on Steam (which is why it shows I haven't played much in it just FYI). Yes some of the characters are annoying AF and it took a while for this game to play well it's still my favorite BL to this date just because of playing the absolute crap out of it with my friend. They did a good job here, the graphics, the guns, the MUSIC (oh it's outstanding!), the story, the levels, the EVERYTHING. Please don't ruin 4 because some dumb bitches want to diversify it even more than all the others already were. Don't be like every other one of these game companies and destroy yourselves becasue THEY want you to. I love Gearbox and I LOVE Borderlands.

I literally cannot even play this game. Not only does it keep crashing, it shuts down my PC every time it crashes. It only happens in this game, I've changed GPU settings, updated drivers, changed between DirectX11 and 12, windowed, fullscreen, borderless, run as administrator, etc. etc. Nothing has worked so far.

Story is ight but gameplay is 10 out of 10 wish bl2 had bl3 mechs

I love the Borderlands games and this one is no different. The gear is great and the playable characters are great. The story is alright and might turn some people off, but the minute-to-minute gameplay makes up for it. The environments are also very memorable and full of color. BL1 had a lot of tan/grey/brown colors which made every environment look the same, but BL3 is very colorful and vibrant.

The game is very fun and has a huge amount of weapons that you can combine overall 8/10

It's Borderland's best gameplay, coupled with one of it's blandest stories, and definitely it's worst writing. Buy it on sale and maybe play it while listening to a podcast or something?

Hard to go back to Borderlands 2 after playing this game, it's an improvement in nearly every aspect. I play it with dialogue volume at 0 so the amazing soundtrack distracts from the awful story/characters/dialogue

Amazing game if you skip cutscenes and mute the story cause it's cringe

The villains are discount streamers. The biggest fight of this game is whether you pity them or despise their nonsensical antics more.

People complain about the story in this game, and it IS bad (but not in the way people tend to say). But the real crime is that this game is all style no substance. A complete lack of balance makes the game painfully easy to the point where I get sleepy playing it. It's really cool and pretty when things blow up, but that's it.

UNTIL, you beat the game?? Custom modifiers after the first play through improve the experience by a lot, but it's such a bad structure to make someone play the game on a single strict mode (which is way too easy) before unlocking custom difficulty.

It's hard. I'm enjoying the game so much more with the custom difficulty tweaks, but playing through a ~15 hour campaign (that's with no side quests) that's mind-numbingly easy is a huge barrier to entry.

I bought this game as I've been looking for a looter-shooter to sink some time into and the endgame looked intriguing. I could not, however, bring myself to complete the campaign to get to endgame. Campaign mission design was boring and repetitive with a lack luster story that failed to keep me engaged. I can see how the humor and world building of this franchise can be fun, but I often found it annoying with how constant and in your face it was. Despite this, I found the weapon design/feel as well as the ability perk trees to be super fun and interesting. May revisit this game in the future or may wait for Borderlands 4 if I hear better things about the campaign experience.

I like playing this game, but I think it could be way better. The gameplay is fantastic. The guns are especially good, with each brand having a distinct identity, from lasers to explosives to regular-ass guns. The animations for guns are satisfying and the sounds are punchy. Fighting feels good, not quite reaching the heights of the best FPSes but it's not far off.
The movement also feels good, any game with mantling automatically has good movement, and this does. :)
I love how the game looks. The cartoony art style is super well executed, with a great colour palette and visual clarity.

I do, like most people, have several gripes.
One of my biggest problems was, bafflingly, completely solved in the previous game. Halfway through Borderlands 2 the primary enemy faction switches from bandits to Hyperion robots. They are different to fight, requiring different damage types to kill effectively and different tactics. But more importantly it just adds variety to the feel of the game. In BL3 you just fight dudes the whole time. There are new elites thrown in there, sure, but I start the game fighting Man With Gun Who is Weak to Fire and end the game fighting Man With Gun Who is Weak to Fire. It just feels off to have nothing properly new for the ~20 hour runtime. Occasional reskins or animal fights (wow a melee enemy that dies well before it gets close) don't cut it.
My second big gripe is that the game is way too easy. You don't unlock hard mode until you've beaten the game once, and that is a terrible decision. I'd put enough points into damage skills that bosses would only last more than 10 seconds if they had immunity phases by the middle of the game. I know many people like that reward from careful buildcraft, but it just made me very bored, so please give us weirdos the option.
Finally, the writing is godawful. I wish everyone on the writing team nothing but wet socks and pillows that are too warm on both sides for the rest of their lives.
They're all problems that are outside of the main gameplay loop, which is still very fun. So overall I think it's still worth a crack.

People might say the story bad, but the game play is miles ahead of all the previous games, which for me is the actually important part about a game.

Lots of holes in the story, but the gameplay by itself is great.

I didn't like story at all, specially villains, but combat and gameplay is pretty nice. Playing with friends would be nice, there's even some special voice lines between vault hunters. Endgame is good, a lot of nice combinations through talent trees and a lot of new guns that a really unique. Only one raid boss sadly, but there's new trials that probably work as replacement of many raid bosses. New leveling system is really nice too, you can skip a lot of side quests and finish story first if you want, because level of enemies is bind to your level.

Terrible main story, Lilith sucks as usual, the bratty kid even worse, great gameplay tho

I have over 100 hours in this game, and played it primarily on console, but also picked it up for cheap for fun. The game plays fine, it's fun to play most of the time. There are less enemies then I want there to be, they're a little squishier then I'd like them to be (or they're absolutely bullet sponges, hardly no inbetween) and the best part about the game, is 100% the guns.

The guns feel good, they sound great, they look fantastic. But they feel kinda similar after so long. Most of the Legendaries feel kinda watered down. They just don't feel particularly good or are that satisfying. The story is an absolute trash heap, the writing is awful, the voice acting is serviceable but not great. The villains are jokes, the jokes are worse than the villains, and the heroes deserved better.

I don't know what unpaid intern was forced at gunpoint to write this game, but they need to be released and put into a different career. But, I have fantastic news for my deaf friends and fans! You'll enjoy this game far more than anyone else.

It's just too easy.
There's no fun in a game where it's almost impossible to die, unless acting suicidally. Even then it's pretty hard to die. The games gets harder as you progress, but just gets to the point where no items are useable and the enemies are bullet sponges.
I downloaded a way to play true vault hunter mode straight away and it's far too easy too. Get a good gun, then you can't die. Even with no skill points invested. So then I've tried playing with rubbish guns and rubbish shields. It's more fun, but there is then a huge imbalance between normal enemies and stronger ones. I rip through mobs, being increasingly reckless just to get some kind of challenge, then have to spend a full minute and all my ammo to kill a single strong (non-boss enemy). A shame as it could be fun if only the enemies hit harder and had a more balanced health pool.

Soulless husk of what once was a great franchise. Characters are caricatures of their past selves and any new character is either unfunny, unoriginal, or under developed. The story could have been 1000x better if the siblings dynamic was further explored and their eventual power split realized, instead we get 1 really good glimpse of what could have been when Troy and
Wainwright "fight" each other and nothing comes of it. PLUS why TF does Tyrine become a monster at the end???? Unironically no reason for that since no other monster caused her to mutate.

Very fun and a great time passing game. I give 10/10 Bandits out of ten.

Where the main game has awful writing, some of the DLC stories were more passable or even good. Excellently crafted gameplay truly hard carried the experience, despite the story.

I managed to 100% complete the game entirely in co-op, but some of the achievements were bugged for the non host player, causing some complications.

Get it and most of the DLC on a sale if you can. Season Pass 2 is quite skippable, if you do not care about getting all the achievements.

Gameplay 10/10 Story and Characters 0/10

Soooo...over the course of playing this from start to finish I've ended up being saddled with one burning question searing into my brain - WHY AM I STILL PLAYING THIS PIECE OF FUCK?!

The story starts out entertaining, but quickly becomes both annoying and insulting; the antagonists are tedious, lacking any of the wit or charisma that Handsome Jack had. To use wrestling terms, they don't have heel heat, they just have "go away heat" (in other words, it's not fun to boo them, you just want them off the screen); It tries to replicate the shock of what happened in 2 with Roland's death, which ultimately falls flat both because we've barely got to know the character from an NPC to player perspective, and because it's just setting a bad precedent for expectations; None of the plot twists are interesting or unexpected, you can see them coming a mile off. Claptrap and Tiny Tina BOTH take up more prominent roles, a concept which just baffles as they are like red hot pokers in my ears every time they open their mouths; it does a horribly obnoxious fake-out ending, made all the worse by the fact your character isn't present in the cutscene; to expand on that you're not present in any of the cutscenes, which is especially insulting when it comes to the post-final bossfight cutscene! One of the characters has essentially been setup to fail in a lot of fans' eyes because those fans will only ever associate them with being the cause of the aforementioned character death. And the storymode's ending isn't simply insulting, but outright offensive to anyone who ever had any investment in the series and characters, especially as it ultimately denies the player the ability to be the one to save the world.

And then there's the technical side of things, some are actual observed problems, others are just personal gripes:

We STILL can't abandon or reset quests, which is especially irritating if you happen to misinterpret the sentence "talk to me before you go" as "you can talk to these people in whatever order you want, but the quest won't be available before you've spoken to me", silly me *eyeroll*; inventory is still a mess, I don't know if this is because it's optimised for console or what, but that's not an excuse, get your goddamned alignments sorted; getting quick travel to work is a chore as even when you're clicking on the right spot, it won't initiate until you click on the correct side-menu; one manufacturer of weapons is, in my opinion, almost completely useless with the exception of the SMG's, and I don't know if that's an intentional bad joke on the part of the devs, or if they're just badly designed, but either way Maliwan weapons are mostly only useful for pocket money; Eridium has been relegated to only being used for buying cosmetic upgrades, making the farming of it next to pointless, whilst in Borderlands 2, it was needed to get those all important inventory and weapon clip upgrades. But now those are all paid for with standard cash, meaning that you're desperately having to penny-pinch to make it possible to expand inventory to a size worth a fuck; Reload times are absolutely horrendous with some weapons, with some of them taking so long that I was sometimes thinking "Shall I just get myself killed, it'll probably be faster?"; Cutscene text can end up constantly appearing on-screen for hours after the cutscene happened. This can also happen if you go out of bounds and die, with the alert continuing to flash after you revive. In both cases fixed by quitting to menu and starting again, but THIS SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE DONE.

And then there's the fact that Gearbox/2K are gouging for so much DLC it's unreal. Here's a great idea - how about you make a decent game first, then I might consider getting the DLC (In case anyone is wondering, what DLC I do have I won in a giveaway)

I'm likely forgetting a whole host of things that annoy me about this game, but overall I just hate this and the only reason I completed it was because I'd already gotten as far as I had.

I would say the game is in desperate need of patching, but no amount of patching can rescue it from the utterly garbage story. And of course, it's not like that patching will happen anyway now that Borderlands 4 has been announced, which will undoubtedly perpetuate all of the technical and logistical problems mentioned above, because why fix what has been broken since 2009?

The story of the third game of the Borderlands series, which has a more crazy and humorous atmosphere than other post-apocalyptic games, begins again on the planet Pandora. However, although the characters we encounter in the side missions are quite original, the structure of the missions is unfortunately not very innovative. Borderlands 3, which has repetitive situations in terms of side mission structure, has saved this part with its humorous language. In terms of gameplay mechanics, the dynamics that adapt to both co-op and single-player game modes were the biggest element that connected me to the game, along with the story. Although it seems like a completely open world, the map structure, which is divided into large regions, can sometimes cause problems during the game. Unfortunately, the structure of the open world is not very different from each other in terms of detail. For example, although the planet Pandora, where you start the story, seems like a vast desert at first, you see the same details in the rest of the map except for the small settlements of bandits. Unfortunately, this situation can undermine the exploration feeling of the game in the later hours. Borderlands 3's combat mechanics are exactly as they should be. Gearbox, which beautifully incorporates the special powers of the characters into the combats, did not neglect to pay attention to the variety of weapons in particular. It would probably not be wrong to say that the gameplay mechanics take on different forms with each weapon. The developers, who also thought hard about weapon designs, did not neglect to transfer the appreciated aspects of the first two games to the third game. Gearbox, which has made innovations in the character customization section, has put a lot of thought into the cosmetic side of the game. However, while there is a chance to pursue new weapons or new abilities, putting effort into the cosmetic side of the game will generally not be a subject that most players will pay attention to.

The development team, which has also included details in customizing the vehicles in the game, has made the vehicles more effective in combat. Strengthening the vehicles, making them go faster or trying to make them look better is completely up to us. In addition, you can determine your strategy as you wish in attacking your enemies with different vehicle types. However, unfortunately, I will not be able to do the same embellishment in the vehicle driving mechanics. Borderlands 3, which has a shallow structure in terms of driving mechanics, upset me in this regard, and even the process of getting used to the driving mechanics took a while at first.

In conclusion, Borderlands 3 is a production that generally follows the footsteps of the first two games and includes their good aspects. If you're gonna play this game play it with the audio off. Gameplay is pretty good but if this is what borderlands 4 is going to be like I'm done with the franchise.

This game has a beautiful art style, awesome guns, super smooth gameplay and mechanics, and to me it’s a very enjoyable and fun looter shooter. On the other hand, the story and characters are kinda poorly written and the dialogues are boring.. But the positive points still make this game very worth getting, just wait for a sale though! ;)

Very fun action packed game it can get repetitive at times and sometimes you hold on to guns for way to long but overall very fun looter shooter 8/10.

I tried to like it; I really did, but I couldn't survive through the story's horrible millennial writing to even try playing the content in NG+. Every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time I hear the characters talk in game, I couldn't stomach how ear-grating the dialogue was. The moment I was able to finish this game's story. instead of being satisfied about the ending. All I felt was relief at the fact that I was finally done with the ♥♥♥♥ show of a narrative the story and its characters provided.

I definitely do not recommend unless you are one of those people who can enjoy brain-numbing dialogue by turning their brains off at will. In which case, if you are one of those, know that I'm jealous of the talent you have.

This is the best borderlands game in term of stuff to do, end game content, gun play and build diversity. Story is lacking but I don't play borderlands for the story, good thing you only have to do story once now as you can make max level characters now once you have a max character.
