Sad to see this die in early access has so much potential :(
Could have been something great. Unfortunately completely abandoned in EA.
Big sad.
The game play and game loop are amazing. The problem? The game is unfinished and it doesn't look like it will ever be finished. The discussion board has been silent since Oct 2021. It wouldn't matter if the game was closer to completion, but it is not. Pathfinding is broken, NPC behavior is also broken. It really is too bad, because this had the potential of being and amazing game.
Unfortunately the game has been abandoned, I did pick it up years ago, checking up on it every few months to see nothing changing.
It's a shame though since this had allot of potential as a dwarf-fortress like game. For two bucks I think I got my money's worth playing a little under 6 hours, but if the developer is gone, no sense in supporting this.
game was bad before it was abandoned but early access excused it then it was never worked on ever again
Once you can have greater influence over where they hang out. Right now zones are the way you're supposed to influence them, but it seems they can't figure out how to prioritize their needs vs where they feel they should stand according to where you put there zone. I've watched many dwarfs spin around in circles while they starve.
I have played Undholm off and on since 1 Feb, 2019 where I bought the game for a staggering 0,96 USD.
Undholm has some nice graphics and gameplay that while not really revolutionary feels comfortable and smooth for the most part.
[B] However,
Undholm currently has quite a few problems, but the biggest in my opinion would probably be that after playing for an hour or two the save game will start lagging, as of this review this is still a problem.
After reaching a certain amount of dwarfs (25-50 ish) the dwarfs will either stop working and doing stuff or a few lonely dwarfs will do it all by themselves, this includes simple stuff like mining, picking up stuff or farming, making progress close to if not impossible.
While I personally enjoy the game, I wouldn't recommend it to others as the developer seems to have abandoned the game without a word and in a state nowhere near complete.
Sadly this game that was thriving with opportunity, was seemingly abandoned as a project. I would've loved to see more effort put into this to update and continue developing the game.
Unless development continues again, I would not recommend purchasing the game, as it is quite limited as of its current state.
This is a very impressive game for what you are paying for. It does have that simple graphics which I think is all this game needs. Get ready to build an explore the world around you in this short game. It is worth a try for sure if you are player of this genre.

Took a while to learn.
Similar to "Craft the World".
Farmers don't dig and Miners don't farm, and neither Build.
Once you understand this and get into the building and trading,
DAYS just pass you by adding one more Room, or sending your Troops on a Raid.
Despite being early access, I'm hooked already! 3+ hours and I still feel like I'm still scratching the surface (and I don't just mean my "dorfs" haven't breached L70 yet ;-)
Hopefully the developer realises what a gem they've created and continue to hone it. They could easily charge more and it would still be worth it (even at this early stage). Get in at the ground floor while it's cheap!
There's so much potential for this to become a great "dwarf fortress lite"; far more accessible if far less complex. Comparable to Odd Realm or Craft The World. Maybe not a Rimworld, but here's hoping!
I only had a short amount of time to play, but what I did play was very exciting. This game has some good potential considering it's pre-alpha! Controls were a little hard to get used to (after playing other games like RimWorld), but they're pretty simple and easy to get used to.
The game takes a spin on the usual 2D landscape by making it 3 "blocks" wide rather than one single layer.
Pros:
Pretty fun way to spend one evening
Only cost me $2
Good concept
Promising new game
Decent tutorials for an early stage game
I like how they implemented fog of war
Cons:
I got about 3 or 4 hours of play time in before there was basically nothing else to do. Because the Magma Forge doesn't work yet, none of the metals can be used except for copper and iron.
Buggy and incomplete. Dwarves have trouble pathing to tasks that are more than a few blocks away, but you can somewhat work around this bug by manually forcing a dwarf to walk near the task - though sometimes they still won't work on it and will idle right next to it.
Neutral:
Extremely simple. Very few items, resources, enemies, and things to do. This is actually a good thing at this stage of development, but right now the level of complexity and sophistication is more comparable to cell phone games than PC games. The size of the map is also pretty small. Again, I see this as a good thing for the time being.
This is like an extremely simplified Terraria, except with 2 extra layers of blocks to make it "sorta 3D" and the gameplay is more like Gnomoria and other DF clones where instead of controlling one character, you create tasks that your squad of dwarves will carry out. Working with blocks that aren't on the front layer isn't always easy to do so you don't really feel much benefit from having the extra 2 layers of blocks, but I still enjoyed the concept and the 3d rendering is arguably more enjoyable than Terraria's 2D approach because of the feeling of depth.
The sprites and graphics are very simple and pixely and I like them. I'm just really glad they aren't vector based like in Rimworld, which I can't bring myself to buy because it looks too much like it was made in Flash. This game can be downright pretty when when zoomed out, a little ugly when zoomed in.
Overall I'm neutral on this game because it was very cheap but is very early stage, more of a proof of concept app. I really enjoy this genre and don't mind supporting an early stage game like this but for the general public I'd say thumbs down unless you've read all of the above and are still interested in buying it.
If they can improve this game even slightly, like fixing pathing and fixing the Magma Forge so that higher tier items can be crafted, I'll most likely be flipping my vote to a thumbs up. Hoping that the devs will focus on stable, functional, bug-free releases because a simple game like this can be very enjoyable when everything works correctly.
So I have decided to go back and rereview this game, seeing as it has not updated since Febuary of 2019. This is absolutely ridiculous, at least Age of History II manages to add content once in a while, this game has not updated in over two and a half years and counting. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
I will leave my old review down below if you want to read it.
Old Review:
This game has lots of potential. I bought this game for $1.99 despite me wanting to save that money. It was pretty damn worth it.
While incomplete, I had fun building a colony that could support itself. Though I do have some complaints.
1. Dwarves sometimes screw around and don't do their job when it is most important. One time I had a vampire on the loose in the bottom of the cave scaring the hell out of a poor dwarf. My soldiers would not kill it and they took their time to kill it.
2. Placing sometimes is really difficult.
Other than that. This game has lots of potential.
How is this Game so cheap Lol its art design is stangly like able srry loveable its much like dwark fortress but on a 3 tile wide platform how is this so addicting ! omg If this isnt in a Humble bundle or sum other indie game promoter ill cry.
I really like the simplicity of this game. It gives you a lot of opportunities to build your own dwarf-colony. The difficulty is quite low yet, but I guess there will be changes in the future as well as new content. So far I can only recommend this game and I'm really excited where the developer will take this game!
It's good, kind of Rimworld meets minecraft.
The viewpoint can be a bit tricky, or else I just haven't figured it out yet.
Yes it's kind or wonky, being very early access, but for the price, it's a definite buy, since it will only improve, and the price can only go up.
It's a good game, I love it
I wouldn't replace good ol' DF with it at it's current state.
The game at it's current state features to be a more of a 'Casual' game, but looking at what kind of m o n s t e r s the developer is taking inspiration from i know for a f a c t this isn't enough.
I still love it! You get your moneys worth on this game.
I know that with the right determination and ambition it can be something great and different from the others.
Seriously awesome find. I saw a YouTuber I watch play this for a bit, and I got excited. You can tell the game is still in its infancy, but it shows some serious promise. I managed to burn over 4 hours so far in this game, and I will likely keep playing it. I like the fact that you can 'choose your difficulty'
Some developers build out a whole game, not knowing if anyone would actually enjoy their game besides themselves. Others are too simple. This has started life at a right point, and the dev really seems like he cares about it and wants to make something awesome, and uses his early access base as a playtest base.
I will be following this, very closely!
Unfortunately I must change my review from positive to negative due to the fact that the developer has completely disappeared and abandoned the game.
At first the developer was active and updated the game, listened the players etc. and I even personally emailed with the developer about the bugs and such.
At some point for some reason the developer just disappeared without any kind of message to the players and none of the multiple gamebreaking bugs were repaired and were just left unattended.
I gave many years for the game to start getting updates or the developer to respond in some way, but since that is not happening the review has to change to what it is now.
You just control a dwarf colony and mine resources, get more dwarves, raid other colonies, and have fun.
I love it, its super relaxing and has the exact premise of a game ive always been searching for.
Not super advanced right now but has insane potential and I hope the dev rly puts in a lot of work to make this game shine.
EDIT: cant reccomend anymore. buggy as hell and abandoned
