This game is absolutely worst. first f all there are first 3 halo games which are absoultely worst because they have at least one mission which is so hard to nevigate and complete. whole map is just bunch of repetable enviroment and you dont know whether you are going ahead or back in mission. then there is odst. i was enjoying the game so far untill i encountered a game breaking bug whare one of my fellow died on his own for no reason and i was locked out of mission. this became so frustrating that i decided to post this review and not play this game ever. also forget about requirement to log in with microsoft account which i had to make just for this third class game. i wish i had an option to get refund even if steam keep my money but i dont want them to keep my money for this trauma. aso all memes you see on social media are bunch of cheep marketing and this game is terrible.
Halo is one of if not the best franchises out there from the campaigns and story to the multiplayer and co-op. call it glazing liberals, but all of these games have stood the test of time
This collection can keep you entertained for weeks, with absolute banger campaigns. Halo 3 ODST in particular always having a special place in my heart throughout my childhood.
Really fun game to play with friends in multiplayer. So many maps and gamemodes to choose from!
Bad news every Halo player the stupid MCC update is now not showing many mods now even with anti cheat disabled! :(
This needs to be fixed.
Thumbs up because I love Halo of cause but it would be thumbs down because of this update.
And if the update did not exist then every Halo fan out there would still be happy playing the game normally & playing with mods as with friends as well.
Games great but be warned about multiplayer tho. Its full of try hards not that i blame them tho. I mean nobody plays ranked so they have to play with the casuals. Also the game still crashes sometimes for me when playing custom games. I wish 343 would update this game man. Kinda crazy how the studio abandoned the community here.
Enjoy the countless hours of playing multiplayer with friends, and campaign with my brother. I've had a blast :)
Started out rough but its an amazing game i group up with halo and has always been something i frequently come back to such a fun game.
They update the game for no reason other to screw up all the mods. I have 100 gigs of custom campaigns that are useless for literally no reason. Modded campaigns is the only thing I do on this game.
The input delay is literally worse than the original game and the enemy AI does things they never did in the originals. I'm playing this for the nostalgia and this just doesn't succeed at that. No wonder they're remastering Combat Evolved again. I hope they do a better job.
As for the co-op campaigns, there is a latency delay on the MOVEMENT. I tried to play with a friend from the UK from Australia and there was literally a 300ms delay from when I pressed W to when Chief walked forward and even when I released W he'd continue moving foward for another 300ms. Absolutely atrocious netcoding, I genuinely cannot believe how bad it is.
First time playing Halo! Very much of its era. Always been a Playstation guy, but it is cool to finally experience and understand what people have been talking about for the past 20 years.
You can NOT launch this game with out making a microsoft account. even though you bought it from steam and not microsoft. If you put in the wrong account information youll get stuck in a logging loop that you have to alt f4 and go into your pcs credential files and delete to even attempt to log in again. the game its self is a pretty buggy port. i wish there was a better way to play this collection, this would have gotten a good review if it didnt have so much 3rd party crap attached to it that causes consistent problems.
Buy this game and show 343i (not calling them Halo Studios as they don't deserve the name) that their current view of Halo is absolute trash. They should hire people that actually appreciate and understand the original trilogy and what made the gameplay/artstyle/community so good, and work from there. Halo 4 only just barely squeaks by as not a complete disappointment, but it's still such a skewed view of what Halo is supposed to be, and then Halo 5 and Infinite are just pure horrid messes. Halo Reach and 1-3 are masterpieces in their own ways, the community has to vote with their wallets and stop supporting the new releases and continue to purchase/play MCC.
The game is great, when it works. Being able to play all of the original campaigns in single player on modern hardware is a gift. Trying to play any of the original campaigns in multiplayer is a grift. It simply doesn't work without major changes to the base code, and mods can only go so far. As much work as has been done to modernize the game, desync issues abound whenever a player picks up the wrong gun or gets into the wrong vehicle. It doesn't seem like Microsoft cares to update the game anymore either, so whatever capability we're able to mod in after the fact in 2025 is pretty much what we're left with.
From reading other reviews online, playing multiplayer in other modes may have similar issues, I haven't tried because playing the campaign is what I got the MCC for.
I do not recommend getting this game unless you are looking to play in Single Player, and perhaps wait until the game goes on sale for $10 again.
The games within its collection great but the sigining in and making a microsoft account is just unbearable because you never know when it will get locked and even then it does get locked you cant switch accounts because it gets stucked in the your account was locked message
the only thing good about halo 1-2 is the nostalgia, and story... other than that, they aren't worth playing through without a team to make the garbage more tolerable. The only things worth playing are Reach and ODST, maybe 3 if im willing to risk souring my memories. In other words, i regret being attached to this failure of a franchise, it's potential left to waste. reminds me of C&C. Started cool, became great, and then BAM! full blown AIDS.
Pros:
Graphics.
Soundtrack.
Campaigns.
Online co-op.
Can be played with mid-range PCs.
6 games, totally worth the price.
If you grew up playing these games or have never experienced Halo before, this is the place to start. While not a totally faithful product (some music licenses were lost during the making of this and the changing of studios as well as small lore terminals not present in the base games) it represents a fantastic collection of what defined and shaped online console shooters and became and video game sci-fi darling. I have put hundreds to thousands of hours into these games when they originally released back in the day and I still put another 150 or so hours into replaying these games and revisiting multiplayer and just enjoying these games in general. I still hop on every now and then to do some coop or multiplayer with a friends or friends.
The addition of lore terminals into the base game is another small gripe I have. They were not in the original releases and while I don't mind that they are in the game, I feel like they should unlock after your first play-through, so that those who have never experienced Halo before can learn the lore and story the same way we did. The lore terminals add some info and straight up spoilers very early on the in the trilogy story and even include some bits of detail from the books.
Halo 1-3, Reach, and ODST are the real heart of the Halo franchise. Halo 4 feels a bit like a cop out and the other 343 games lose a lot of heart that the series started off with.
Overall this is a strong collection of Halo games along with their still fun and active online multiplayer scene.
This game is held together by scotch tape and gum. It barely works. I don't know how you screw up networking so hard that campaign co-op effectively doesn't work, but congrats to 343i for doing what I previously thought to be impossible.
This is not a review of the games, obviously all the Bungie Halos are timeless classics and 4... exists. This is an angry rant at a worthless company that, after 11 years, still can't figure out how to do basic features correctly. Avoid this trash port.
great collection but not having split screen support in a halo game should be a crime
Awesome collection of remasters of originals. The games are perfect, and I love the ability to switch between old and new graphics to see the differences in them. The game even goes on sale for like 90% sometimes so awesome. GET THIS GAME!
the game is awesome. I don't recommend playing ODST because it can get very confusing and checkpoints in Reach are funky. Otherwise, I had a lot of fun and it was definitely wroth 10 euros. I recommend Halo CE and especially Halo 2. Just remember not to play firefight custom.
Halo The Master Chief Collection is a must have game on your PC, the CLASSIC nes is unmatched by any other game on steam. if you don't have Halo The Master Chief Collection your an opp because the game is so good that everyone needs it, also my all time favorite voice line is when Master Chief says "I AM THE HALO" because that line is an all time CLASSIC !
The game always crashes on start up. I've tried multiple work around including uninstalling/new install, verifying files etc. The sad thing is reddit indicates this problem has been ongoing for at least 2 years. So that tells me this is another cash grab by a major gaming corporation and they have no intent of fixing anything. Good thing I only paid $10.
Game is a fantastic value. It's a lot of fun, lots of content to play. Grab a friend, hop in a warthog. If you like Halo, or just want to experience it, this is a great starting point.
Requires an XBOX login to even start into the games. Getting it on sale was nice. Refunding it immediately afterwards was even better... ALL games that are under the control of a 3rd party / requiring active internet connection to login and run, should have a big Neon NOTICE: Third Party Login. This is an Online Game and will not work without a live internet connection.
It wouldnt let me get past the sign in. Garbage like that shouldnt be allowed on steam. I buy games, i expect to play them without having to jump trough more hoops. Getting it on sale was nice. Refunding it immediately afterwards was even better...
You need to sign in to play
The sign in option doesn't always work
which means you can't play the game you paid for
My favorite game series will always be Halo, and the deal to get 6 of these games is amazing, I love it.
Halo Master Chief Collection started off as a cash grab from a company that didn't understand the magic of the franchise, but has quickly became an absolute masterclass in media conservation. Halo MCC allows you to relive the best games of the series, and play them all over again in a easily digestible format. Customs games are great, campaigns are unrivaled, and the community is amazing. I encourage anyone who has never played Halo to dive in, and experience some of the best games of the 2000s and ask questions, join game chat, and teabag to your hearts content. Also, the speed running community is amazing and super fun to keep track of and try to participate in. I have loved Halo ever since I was a kid, and as an adult, it offers a moment of respite from life and its many challenges. I hope you experience an 8th of the joy I have felt throughout my life playing these games. Thank you to Bungie and to 343 for creating and maintaining these wonderful pieces of art. 10/10 game, and yes I must say I am biased :)
A wonderful and comprehensive experience of some of the best games of all time (except for Halo 4). The amazing Halo trilogy alongside ODST and Reach is so great to play on PC and many of the games have a very active player base on their respective multi-players. Campaigns are fun to play with all of the skulls available and extras to choose from. Customization is vibrant and extensive and even stretches into the single-player experience if you so desire. Also it has good steady mod support with steam workshop! This means Halo 1 and 3 Firefight and that is just a dream come true for me.
Such a good game, I should have played this sooner (this is coming from an ex PS player)
Edit 1:
Halo Reach: Good graphics, great story, great characters, overall the game was great some minor glitches were happening especially in one of the missions, other than that nothing else. 8.5/10
Halo CE: Graphics of course wont be better than Reach but it was good enough. The story was good, game play was decent, enemies were harder to kill than in Reach imo, characters were good as well, overall everything for this game is good. Minor glitches but not that bad. 7.5/10
Halo 2: WAY better graphics than the last two combined, better characters, 1 or 2 new weapons, very good story especially seeing the two different sides, it was a very good idea. the ending was as good as Reach. It defo made me more excited to play Halo 3 (going to do it this weekend). Unfortunately the game sometimes just froze for a couple of seconds with FPS drops idk why but it stopped in the last 5 missions. 9/10
Edit: 2
Halo 3 was amazing, the graphics were a bit worse than Halo 2, story was great, characters were even better, a new weapon, new bosses, enemies were easier to kill, guns felt better too, ending was very good also almost all the missions were enjoyable, defo the best Halo game yet. 9.5/10
I still haven't played Halo 3 ODST or Halo 4 im not sure when I will play it
Edit 3:
Halo 3 ODST was completely broken, and even when I was able to play it, the story just wasn't good so I just stopped playing it after the 2nd mission.
Halo 4: Great end to the story, everything was great, the story was brilliant, the missions were all great. the graphics were great, a lot more weapons and finally I can sprint. 9.3/10
All in all this is great series, if you never played it you defo should. Series rating 8.9/10
If you’re a newcomer like me to Halo, this is the best way to get into the gameplay and lore/story of these amazingly unique games. You can play them in chronological order or by release date, either way you’ll have a blast!
My favorite is Halo: Reach :)
one of thew best gaming franchise i have ever touched(played halo1-2-3 in my xbox 360 in 2010), will be placed in a special place in my heart
This is a great game, one of the best. I first played it and I said, "Wow this is a great game." They're saying it's a collection of some of the best FPS games of all time, I'm not saying it, but people are saying it. Friends of mine, they're professional Halo players, they watch me play and you know what they say? They say, "This is the most brilliant thing I've ever seen. You should have the title of Master Chief." But my teammates, you know what they call it? They say I'm trash. They say I'm bottom fragging. You know, one time I was killed by a teammate when I had the flag. You know what I said to him? I said, "Abdul, don't do it anymore. You do it anymore, you're going to have problems." And he said, "Why did you send me a picture of my house?" I said, "You're going to have to figure that out, Abdul." And for 18 months I was never killed.
It's all of the good Halo games with none of the drawbacks of playing on a console.
If you're a Halo veteran, it's worth to double dip just to play it with a mouse and keyboard, better framerates, mod support and free multiplayer. (All progress carries over from the Xbox version)
And if you haven't played Halo before, I can't recommend it enough. It's one of the greatest shooters ever, set in one of the best sci-fi universes. It was worth buying an Xbox just to experience this masterpiece, fortunately that's not necessary anymore.
Some of the best games of ALL TIME all on one launcher with mod support. Had this on Xbox One/Series X, recently made the switch to PC and everything runs great. For the purists out there like myself there is an option to disable some of the new customization that wasn't in the original game. Would recommend this to anyone who loves FPS and a good Sci-Fi story.
Greatest Video Game Franchise of the Century!
i played this on the original xbox having both halo1 and halo2 games, and i remember that when halo3 came out, i saw that i needed the new xbox 360 in which i havent had yet at the time when i was a kid! eventually, i received the console which was bundled with the game and i think it was a year of Xbox Live Gold ! as time went on, and as more of these started to come out, i just happened to have the desire of naturally wanting to get the game. i started this collection when it came out on the xbox in 2014 and it was something new that was just getting better. All Halo games into one. now we are here with one game which has all of them! Another thing is that i can use Mods here! i use something called assembly and makes it extensible and powerful to mod halo! this assembly tool actually made me see what possibilites exist within this games engine! this game really is the best sci-fi shooter of our lives and here we are enjoying it :^)Its Halo. ya'll are tripping though requiring a microsoft login just to play even single player. C'mon Microsoft that's an EA move. For same
Play for the beautiful legacy that bungie has left behind and play with the mods to experience the joys that the community has to offer, fuck 343/Halo Studios
Halo The Master Chief Collection is an extraordinary compilation that offers an unparalleled gaming experience for both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise. This collection is truly the ultimate Halo package, bringing together six classic Halo games in one remarkable bundle.
The Master Chief Collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo Two, Halo Three, Halo Four, Halo Three: ODST, and Halo: Reach. Each game has been carefully remastered, running at high definition and sixty frames per second, which dramatically improves the visual and performance experience. The collection is particularly noteworthy for its Halo Two Anniversary edition, which features stunning HD graphics and new cutscenes.
One of the collection's strongest features is its massive multiplayer component. With over one hundred multiplayer maps spanning the entire Halo series, players have an unprecedented variety of gameplay options. The collection allows for incredible customization, letting players choose specific games and playlists to match their preferences.
Many players have found unique enjoyment in different games within the collection. For instance, some particularly enjoyed Halo Three: ODST for its storyline and modernized gunplay, while others were impressed by Halo Two: Anniversary's campaign and visual upgrades.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is more than just a game compilation—it's a love letter to the Halo franchise. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer, this collection offers an incredible, comprehensive Halo experience that is well worth playing.
Multiplayer is ruined by cheaters, AFKers, or (frequently) both. Easy Anti-Cheat is laughably ineffective (as is most kernel-level anticheat), only putting your own PC at risk when hackers subvert it. 343 (and now Halo Studios) don't care to fix this as Microsoft can't make any more money off it; they'd rather port it to other platforms than make it worth playing on the ones it's already on.
Maybe the eventual PS5 port will briefly inspire them to care about the actual playability of the game the same way this PC port inspired them to fix many of the bugs that had been lingering on the Xbox release... before abandoning further development after the community reacted negatively to their new cosmetics and rumblings of a battle pass. Woe betide anyone dumb enough to fall for another Microsoft video game.
Buy it for the campaigns, ideally on sale. Don't touch the multiplayer; they've actually managed to ruin it.
This is a great collection of games that run great, play well, and are fluid. The story is also amazing
was trying to play multiplayer but i got kicked before i could even join, and then it temporarily banned me, fuck u microsoft
Halo when it used to be good, except now, thanks to AlphaRing (which adds splitscreen to pc), and the workshop on steam, this is the definitive way to play Halo while 343 Industries/Halo Studios keep making mistakes with the franchise.
It's 5 good games (and one decent one) for less money than a AAA game, and all of them with both good PvP, co-op campaigns AND mod support.
You can't really go wrong with this collection, if you think it's still too expensive, just buy it on sale, it's worth every penny.
Just so people are aware --- The initial download does not include any of the games. The initial download is a 12 Gigabyte launcher. That's it.
So you download 12 Gigabytes. Are forced to sign into a Microsoft account just to view the main menu - And then view the menus is all you can do. Because all you downloaded was a 12 Gigabyte menu. Seriously?
Something is seriously, profoundly wrong with your game production process and programming patterns when your LAUNCHER is that absurdly bloated. Why would you not have CE at the very least included in the initial download???
I just want to make people aware of this because it is absolutely something that should be very prominent in the description. Disrespectful of your users. We will celebrate the death of AAA and their replacement by Devs of slightly higher competence.
I remember the excitement on launch day like it was yesterday. I snagged a copy of Halo with the Halo-edition Xbox, which was a true beauty. Firing the game up for the first time felt like being reunited with an old friend. The nostalgia was real, and the remastered graphics were jaw-droppingly impressive even back then.
Fast forward to now, I'm revisiting the collection on newer hardware, and let me tell you, it’s like rediscovering an old favorite with a new set of eyes. The upgrades in performance and visuals are just amazing. It’s smoother, faster, and even more beautiful than I remembered.
Replaying the campaigns is a treat. The storylines are timeless, and the improved graphics and gameplay make the experience feel fresh again. Whether I'm battling the Covenant in “Halo: Combat Evolved” or diving into the depths of “Halo 4,” it's an epic adventure every time.
Overall, revisiting The Master Chief Collection on modern hardware is a testament to the enduring legacy of Halo. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the franchise, whether you're reliving those legendary moments or experiencing them for the first time. This collection continues to be a must-have for any Halo fan.
Amazing halo game, 100% would recommend to anyone who enjoys First-Person Shooters. (I came from playing halo infinite and this collection genuinely amazed me with how much better it is)
A newbie's thoughts on Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and you can rest assured there will be no nostalgia bias here.
Chronologically by release date, Halo: Combat Evolved is the first game. CE has a simplistic combat design and a narrow variety of weapons, which is to be expected from a game from 2001. Most of the game you're not going to be using the Assault Rifle because it's a weaponized shower head, although it does come in handy against Flood infection forms. The game provided a decent challenge on Legendary even with its simplicity. Plot-wise, CE served to set up the stage. The Master Chief just shoots up aliens during the first half, then he meets 343 Guilty Spark and the parasitic Flood, and he learns that Spark was setting him up to kill himself and all living organisms by activating Installation 04, so he sets out to destroy the Halo by triggering a wildcat explosion in the UNSC Pillar of Autumn and makes a badass escape in a Warthog.
Halo 2 is next. This game introduces a lot of new weapons and dual wielding pistol-caliber and/or plasma firearms. The Energy Sword, Fuel Rod Gun, and Sentinel Beam can now be picked up and used by the player as well. This game's Legendary campaign was annoying at times, but not unbearable. The new Sniper Jackals can kill you with one shot from their Beam Rifles, Buggers will melt you even in cover, and the game only gave me one checkpoint when I was fighting the Prophet of Regret. The boss fights were innovative, but not executed well. Halo 2 also introduces the Arbiter as a player character, an Elite with an Active Camouflage ability, the ability of which adds a lot of new and fun tactics. As for the plot, another Halo appears and we get to see the war from the Covenant's side. We get an understanding of why the Halos are so religiously significant. Thel 'Vadam failed to stop the Master Chief from destroying Installation 04, and thus gets the Mark of Shame, but later gets assigned the role of Arbiter and continues doing the Prophets' dirty work, only to then get yeeted by Tartarus and subsequently have all of the Elites ousted from the Covenant in favor of the Brutes. Only after meeting up with Chief and the Gravemind does Arbiter learn about what Halo really does. Chief gets sent to go after Truth while Arbiter stops Tartarus from activating Installation 05, but it ends on a cliffhanger from there. This fight would later be finished in Halo 3.
Halo 3 is supposed to be the best one in the collection... and I don't see why. The gunplay was largely unchanged from Halo 2 apart from the return of the Assault Rifle, some new and unremarkable Brute weapons, and Needlers can no longer be dual wielded. This game had the worst Legendary campaign in my opinion. It felt like an explosionfest because there was so much Brute Shot, Chopper, Wraith, and Fuel Rod Gun spam. Sniper Jackals can still one-shot you, and the energy shields feel a lot more like paper compared to Halo 2. To me, it was not nine missions long; it was two giant slogs with no sense of progression. And DO NOT even get me started on the Cortana and Gravemind interruptions. Your movement and camera speed get slowed to a crawl while Cortana is all up in your face/Gravemind increases your FOV and goes "oooo look at me i'm sooooo cryptic." You can't tell me that getting reset to the same checkpoint where you jump down a hole to see Cortana crying multiple times is enjoyable. Nothing new was added to the story other than Commander Keyes and Sergeant Johnson dying. It was a shallow continuation from 2's cliffhanger, which is just, "Okay, we still have to stop Truth from activating the Halos, but this time the Elites are our friends, Cortana is still on High Charity, and Spark is still a fake friend." Although, the trilogy did come to a solid conclusion (that would later be interrupted by 343 Industries). The only positive thing I can say about this game is that there were some hilarious death screams, especially from Chief.
Halo 3: ODST was a refreshing change of pace from all of the Spartan/Elite gameplay. This time around, you're playing as a normal human, but you still have energy shields... in a sense. You have "stamina," which turns your screen redder the less you have, and you can actually see your HP again a la Halo: Combat Evolved. The weapon roster didn't change much from 3, but the Brute Plasma Rifle is back (but now it's just a red Elite Plasma Rifle for some reason) and there's the Suppressed Pistol and SMG. The explosions were toned down a lot from Halo 3, but still provided a good enough challenge on Legendary. As for the plot, six Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (...okay, well, one of them is an ONI operative) drop into the Kenyan city of New Mombasa, but get scattered. Then, they try to link up with each other, and then they extract Vergil, a Covenant Engineer with access to the Covenant Battlenet. And then they lived happily ever after, I guess?
Halo: Reach answers the question "What the hell is Reach?" after being mentioned in CE, 2, and ODST. It follows a squad of six Spartans (is 6 Bungie's second-favorite number?) defending against a Covenant assault on planet Reach. Every member of Noble Team gets killed off one by one (okay, well one is presumed to survive) and the position becomes more and more lost. Dr. Halsey is seen developing Cortana, the AI we all know and love, in ONI Sword Base. Cortana is given to Noble Six, and he transports her to Captain Keyes and the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, but also watches as the rest of Noble Team gets killed off (again, except for Jun, who just disappears). After clearing a path for the Pillar of Autumn using a nearby MAC gun, Six takes a final stand against the Covenant on Reach, and he ultimately dies and the planet is glassed. If it weren't for Six, though, Master Chief wouldn't have had Cortana and the Covenant would've won the war. As for gameplay, some new, fun Covenant weapons are added, namely the Needle Rifle and Plasma Launcher. The Battle Rifle is also removed in favor of a semi-automatic DMR, which I personally prefer over the BR. I like that any customizations you chose for your multiplayer Spartan character also applied to Noble Six in the campaign as well.
Halo 4 is supposed to be the worst one in the collection... and I don't see why. This game's campaign was a breather on Legendary, and I needed it after the explosionfest that was Halo 3. In fact, I almost never needed to use the "noob combo" (plasma weapon and precision weapon) on Legendary, and that's a good thing; it encouraged me to use other cool weapons like the Railgun, SAW, Scattershot, and Incineration Cannon. Sprinting is now universal, so now you can sprint and have an Armor Ability, which adds a lot of unique tactics. I can understand why some might dislike the plot, but 343i didn't really have a lot to work with after the Covenant and Flood were defeated. So, basically, there's a new Covenant, Cortana is going rampant so Chief tries to get her back to Dr. Halsey, and then it's just "Forerunner Forerunner Forerunner." Chief becomes more talkative in this game, which I didn't mind. 343i did a good job further expanding upon Chief and Cortana's relationship, and you can even hear the sadness in Chief's voice when he converses with a dead Cortana after nuking the Didact's ship. Even with cybernetic augmentations, Spartans can still show emotions. It's like what Lasky said, "Soldiers aren't machines. We're just people."
Overall, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a B+ experience. $40 for six games is a great price in this day and age of video games, and it can even go down to $10 during sales. It's the perfect game compilation for anyone looking to finish the fight again or start their Great Journey into this series for the first time.
