Loved playing this game when it first came out and will not stop even the other OG MW games like 2 and 3 including black ops 1
it has a good campaign and the for multiplayer the search and destroy mode is a lot like rainbow 6 seige
great game great story i enjoyed playing through it
This game is one of the best. Still very playable non stop action.
Awesome shooting game. Good for lan or online game with friends.
It is a fantastic game for young and old.
I have played thousands of games in my life, and this is easily top 5
If you are having problems starting the game and getting a black screen, try connecting your pc to a 1080p monitor not an ultrawide. Change the resolution in game to 1920x1080, then connect back to your regular monitor! Its a really fun game. It feels nostalgic when I play it.
Just finished again on hardened level, which can be a bit frustrating with the unholy amount of enemies and grenades. But even after all these years, this game remains awesome. Not only are graphics and gameplay still pretty respectable, its campaign story is interesting, fast paced, and thoroughly engaging.
better than the new cods even tho its older than half the playerbase
Perfection is hard to master and they did it. Call of duty only made 2 perfect games and that was COD4 MW and MW2
I love this game idk what else to say but it was my first cod game i played and i recommend even tho its "old"
Ppl are still playing online. CoD4 classic is better than most of latest shooters lol
best cod to ever exist. however the multiplayer is pretty dead and full of shit bot lobbies or modded lobbies
very intense good gamess and the gameplay
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare > Call of Duty: Modern WarFair (2019) (Although that game is good, the story, music, set pieces, writing is inferior to this game)
You have to be on the Cod4x patch or you won't see any multiplayer servers, either download the patch or just connect to a server that is on the Cod4x patch
I really wish that Steam had a neutral option for reviews, because this isn't a black and white opinion.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It's still the same CoD4 that you remember. The same campaign with its memorable (though overshadowed by MW2 and 3's campaigns.) The same multiplayer with atrocious perks that are rage-inducing to deal with. The same few good maps surrounded by absolutely stinkers. The same guns that mostly sucked except for a few that everyone used. The same lack of interesting camos except for the red and blue tiger ones. The same old everything... Except Prestige, since that wasn't in this PC port for some absurd reason. Yay, even less of a reason to keep up with a multiplayer experience from 2007.
Do I hate this game? Absolutely not. CoD4 was a very important game to me, as it came out during a very bad time in my life. My very late adolescence was terrible--worse than most people's, but this hunk of golden age multiplayer from the aughts, was there for me alongside several other decent releases from that year. But I'm not gonna go off about that, you're here for a review about CoD4.
The campaign is your usual Call of Duty stuff: Overly linear missions with frustratingly boring combat encounters, and those juicy bits of story that keep you going. Cool set-pieces, cool weapons, and some real cool characters. We love you forever, Captain John Price.
Multiplayer is just as you remember: Frustrating, chaotic, toxic, and absolutely replayable. There's not a day that goes by without yours truly remembering some absurd, insipid moment from playing this game. Getting a taste of Martyrdom, Juggernaut, Last Stand, and the most infamous weapons, and of course, the Godforsaken sniper culture that was born here. Those crazy killstreaks with a bizarre class setup you experimented with for laughs one day, or just having a really hot match that made you look real good in front of a bunch strangers over the internet. I personally remember a great match on Ambush, in which I went 45 and 3 with the Mini-Uzi, and then scavenging other players' weapons until that score limit was reached.
CoD4 is a beautifully simplistic game, that while not the best aged multiplayer experience out there, pretty much appealed to everyone. Now whether that was a good thing, is really up to you; I understand that Call of Duty isn't particularly liked by many a gamer due to its negative impacts on the FPS market and gaming industry, but I'm not here to discuss that.
Do I recommend Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2025? No.
Now, now. I understand that I just talked positively enough about this game earlier, but I have to be honest and admit that this game is just too barebones by a lot of peoples' standards, even later CoD game standards. There's only a handful of good perks that don't make you come off as a cheap dork, most of the maps just turn into spawn-camp, vantage point camping, grenade spamming, nightmares. While I praised the chaotic nature of this game's multiplayer earlier, I don't really think most people with actual lives are looking to do crazy arcanic rituals, just to have a decent match without overly cheap BS.
You will find that the statement: "If you can't beat them, join them," rings incredibly true with this funny game.
I'm not an overly crude 17 year old anymore, I can't just sit down and trash talk people in this, while abusing obnoxious class setups and acting like I'm a king. And as much as I miss those days, I can't find the magic with this game anymore, but I can keep the memories and nostalgia, and as should you.
Overall: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a solid 6.8/10. Nothing is perfect, and CoD4 reflects this perfectly. An above-average experience with a lot of nostalgia and genius game design that appealed to everyone, despite the M rating and disdain for where it took the FPS scene. And while I said "no," as a recommendation earlier, I still ask that you interact with this before just taking my opinion at face value, and moving on. This is coming from someone who was very fond of this game, and still is.
cant't play the game, it won't log in, gives error for the single player.....pls help
I was deciding between remaster and original, but I rather picked OG one.
Game kept me entertained whole time, that's nice. Arcade mode is fun. Some story is in the game which is alright. Achievements would be good.
Can't wait to buy another COD.
This game is 18 years old at the time of writing this review but it doesn't feel old at all. I initially didn't want to buy this game due to Activision refusing to sell it for less than $10 but eventually i buckled under... and wow was that a good decision. This game, being the first in the Modern Warfare series, is such an immersive experience and in terms of graphics and movement it still holds up unexpectedly well. The campaign is fairly short but the replayability extends it. You can really tell that love was poured into this project and even though the game got a remaster i still encourage players to experience this one first.
One of the greatest COD Campaigns ever made, wish it was nostalgia but the new ones just don't compare.
Give it another run and you'll get what i mean.
9/10.
best game and very very fun to play
This game the best story ever and the gameplay is amazing, I liked the mission the bog because it just had tons of action going on, 10/10 would recommend!!!
am venit sa colindam domn domn sa-naltam cand boierii nu-s acasa domn domn sa-naltam
The First Cod i've ever played and till this day is still my favorite.
first time playing, gotta say that its the best cod game ive played
"switching to your pistol is always faster than reloading"
I never listened to these words.
Pros:
✅ The game that took the Call of Duty series to a whole new level.
✅ Engaging story.
✅ Amazing gameplay with unique missions.
✅ The Veteran difficulty is quite challenging.
Cons:
❌ Additional files required to access multiplayer.
❌ Endless grenade spam.
❌ No achievements.
Some of the most fun I've had in a little while, this game is really good with some friends
10/10 runs super well no crashes +500 FPS
good game but one problem was that griggs died
This is one of the best games ever, super cool if you are new into shooting games
It's an great game! Glad there is still lots of players playing!
Play this and the remastered version. Still one of my favorite campaigns ever. Such a classic
really fun game. highly recommended. but the thing is that it sometimes keeps crashing. but i honestly think i need a high-end pc to run this
The usual us military propaganda, we're good & superior, they're bad & monkeys fighting with sticks and rocks. However as a game it's amazing, especially for its time.
the master price. congratulate
Like Adam Webber (Brendan Fraser), this game is an awesome 'blast from the past.' This was the very first Call Of Duty I ever played c. 2008. It still amazes me to this date that I played this game on a computer with a single core Intel Pentium 4 Northwood (?) CPU and a GPU of a 6600 GT (maybe 6800 GT) with 8 gigabytes of RAM which was all the computer could hold. I also sported a SATA I hard drive back then. "Yay..." LOL
I'm not sure about all the other Call Of Duty games except a few, but this Call Of Duty is different in how you are able to finally get the ability to create a custom load out. In that you must at least be the rank of Private or Private First Class. Also, your score streak is an acquire it or not type of thing. Where if you don't get at least three kills while alive you have to start all over again when you respawn to get a score streak. The longer you're alive and taking down the enemy the further ahead you are in the score streak hierarchy.
The game feels and moves great for an FPS, but you're very loud as you move. So because of that you'll want a stealth perk in your load out otherwise you'll spend your time crouched as you move around the map so as to not alert the enemy which is what you'll have to do until you finally obtain the stealth perk. Which is what I like to do in all the Call OF Duty games I've played.
Punkbuster doesn't support this game anymore, but that doesn't mean there are no servers. As of this post I found a ton and there are more if you downgrade the game version. Plus there are plenty of interesting Mods players have created which may or may not require a downgrade, which you can easily mange by creating more than one folder of the game's installation files. This is how I rolled back in the day while using Mods. I'm sure there are still loads of cheating cockroaches out there, but a good and competent server administrator will have their cheating CD key lying in chalk... I personally never did care for Punkbuster as it caused nothing but grief and false kicks from a server. Plus, at one time I have read at Wikipedia I think it was that Punkbuster steals your privacy while that crap ran on your PC. God only knows what the new so-called "anti-cheat" crap code does on one's machine today.
The game may be archaic by today's standards, but it's still fun to play none the less. Especially with Mods. Not a Mod per say, but I like how the game seems to have code built-in for the jet bombing score streak when it's Christmas season where instead of jets dropping bombs it's none other than the jolly red suit wearing Santa himself in his slay all the while saying, "HO HO HO" as he passes by over head dropping bombs to the enemy below. I always thought that was funny.
Fantastic OG shooter with smoothing movement. Shame there are few servers left, but all players welcome :D
The campaign on veteran is ridiculously hard. I have played them all on veteran now CoD 4 is by far the hardest one. One Shot One Kill is insanely difficult just as hard as fighting a tough Soulsborne boss like Malenia or Isshin. If you like that kind of difficulty then I totally recommend it.
This is when call of duty shined! COD1-BO1 were the years! After that it dove off a cliff and became the circus infused with nonsense cod points irrelevant skins and war (clown) zone.
its amazing.
very action packed so not a dull moment while playing the game.
10/10 would recommend
fun to ragebait oldheads into thinking you're hacking by noscoping them over and over
the guns go pew pew and the grenades go boom its fun
Kids would not have survived the multiplayer lobbies back then.
Halo Combat evolved is a spectacular game, but shows its age in comparison to its recent forebears. Halo Reach, on the other hand, is a timeless masterpiece with top-of-the notch level design, weaponry, and storytelling. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare may be missing out on the story aspect, but in all other fields it proves itself to be Reach's equal. And, godammit, if this game doesn't get you shouting hoo-rah, then nothing ever will.
Great game love the campaign, the characters are amazing and you get into the characters good ending too
the campaign is really good, not as good as mw2 tough.
but in terms of multiplayer, def better then mw2. it feels faster and not as many noob tubers as in mw2.
sometimes i could say mw1 is more stratigical then mw2 because of how big the maps are, even the free for all ones.
