About the Included Games:
Doom (1993) - Original Version
The demons came and the marines died...except one. You are the last defense against Hell. Prepare for the most intense battle you’ve ever faced. Experience the complete, original version of the game released in 1993, now with all official content and Episode IV: Thy Flesh Consumed.
Doom II – Original Version
Hell has invaded Earth, and to save it, you must battle mightier demons with even more powerful weapons. This beloved sequel to the groundbreaking DOOM (1993) introduced players to the brutal Super Shotgun, the infamous Icon of Sin boss, and more intense FPS action.
TNT: Evilution
The UAC relocated their experiments to one of the moons of Jupiter. A spaceship, mistaken for a supply vessel, was granted access. But when it got close to the base, demons poured out. All your comrades were slaughtered or zombified. This time it's not about survival. It's about revenge.
The Plutonia Experiment
Every effort has been made by the nation's top scientists to close the seven interdimensional Gates of Hell, but one portal remains open. Alone, you must infiltrate the ravaged base, defeat the demon Gatekeeper, and seal the last Hell portal before the undead take over the world.
Master Levels for DOOM II
This expansion includes twenty additional levels, all with the same hell-spawned horrors and action of the base game. Each level was created by independent designers and supervised by id Software.
Sigil
Created by id Software co-founder, John Romero, and released as an episode-sized mod consisting of 18 new maps, Sigil fits in between the timelines of DOOM (1993) and DOOM II. Baphomet, the gatekeeper of Hell, “glitched the final teleporter with his hidden sigil, whose eldritch power brings you to even darker shores of Hell. You fight through this stygian pocket of evil to confront the ultimate harbingers of Satan, then finally return to become Earth’s savior.”
Legacy of Rust
Created in collaboration by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, Legacy of Rust is the newest episode for DOOM, and the first official episode since DOOM II to feature new demons and weapons. This 16-map Episode is broken up into two 8 map sections: The Vulcan Abyss and Counterfeit Eden.

These remasters are great and the new soundtracks are great. However, I get extremely nauseous when using a big screen to play this game, so I’d recommend using a smaller screen like a laptop. Overall worth buying.
Loved this series as a child and this is a fantastic collection of games with loads of content to keep anyone happy.
Massive Props to anyone that completed these games on the hardest setting without cheats, Even with no clip and all other mods, some of these levels took me farrrrr too long to complete!
100% with the cheats, but we'll keep that between you and me, please don't tell my friends and family, Thanks xoxox
Theres a reason they call doom a classic. besides a glitch that's making me incapable of getting past DIS (when i kill the spider mastermind the game crashes) it really does keep up gameplay wise
Has some bugs that weren't in the original. Sometimes on respawning doors will only half open, enemies will be INSIDE the floor and/or invisible.
The expansion campaigns are really high difficulty, but proobably doable if you play several levels beneath your normal difficulty.
Other than that it's still a pretty good game after all these years. I'd say the original campaigns are better than any of the expansion content in terms of design.
First Impressions:
My first impressions would have to go back to 1993 when I first played the demo, after only playing Wolfenstein 3D at the time. This game was incredible. Gaming wasn't as popular as it is now, but in the gaming world, everyone knew this game and loved it. I don't remember any game being bigger at the time in the PC world at least. I played it every chance I got, any where I could. It did later came out on consoles but it was super inferior. I also remember some primitive VR setups in arcades or other places you play this in, but I never tried it (If i remember it was super expensive to play even once). The sound design was incredible at the time. Although not fully 3D (you couldn't have rooms above rooms) the levels were amazing and never felt restricted, even though they were. When this game came out it was never in question whether it was good or not, it was universally adored.
This version of the game: Really cool they added the original DOS version of the game as well, and the new menus and achievements and addons, mod support, multiplayer support (not sure how well it works), are all really cool addons, without changing the actual game much at all. Kind of disappointed there's no GZDoom option here though, with achievement support would be great too. Would love to play something like the fan created mod Brutal Doom, or the Black Edition version built in. "Final Doom" in included and includes fan creations as well, but there's probably lots of licenses, perhaps compensation that's involved with something like that. Otherwise, this game is still a ton of fun, and includes all content from Final Doom which is the complete package of all Doom I and Doom II addons and extras. There's user created levels support built in now and other mod options always available. Definitely worth the play through, even if nostalgia isn't a factor on it. I think it holds up honestly. Although if you've never played it, be prepared for a much faster paced game then you might be use to, even faster than the new Doom (2016) based games.
I have played though the first game in this series many times, modded and unmodded and will likely play again in the future several more times. Doom II and all the other expansions I've played either only once before or this was my first time going though them. The extra levels and addons are quite a bit more difficult at times, but all worth playing in my opinion, although if not all the levels, at least and few episodes of DOOM I and maybe DOOM II if you want more. Highly recommended obviously from me.
------------------------------
Control Scheme I Used:
If i was to play the original DOS version, I might use keyboard only, right hand on the arrow keys for movement, without mouse as this is how I played the original. Now however, I use default keyboard and mouse settings. I might use custom controls also, but the defaults feel fine to me. This is funny however, because I attribute this game to be one of the biggest reasons I use custom controls in most shooters today, such as CTRL being my default shoot button instead of MOUSE1 (which is how it was in the DOS version, not the new one). Space bar is the default action button though, as there is no jump.
------------------------------
Worth the current price (CDN$ 12.99)? oh yes
What I actually paid: 3.74 USD (Before Steam accepted CDN Currency)
This copy was originally purchased and converted from "Doom Classic Complete 2012", and interestingly enough bought with copies of Quake, Quake 4, Heretic, Hexen, Wolfenstein, and even Commander Keen. Nice retro collection there.

Completionist Review:
DLC Achievements: This includes everything already
Rating: Depends on how morally you want to complete them... Some challenges are brutal
Can be completed in one run: One really long run of multiple games yes
Chapter Select: There is level select actually, but you start with nothing when you do
Did I need/use a guide? For one achievement yes, but I probably didn't need to.
Achievements for beating every main game, and a couple of nasty challenges, however you can save scum though them, quickloading is instant. One quick one on hardest (Nightmare) difficlty for any single level.

I played Doom and Doom ][ back when it was new and now I get to play it again on modern equipment with some visual enhancements. Love it! Also, the only way I'm ever going to see 240 FPS is on a 30yr old game!
love doom, but wtf?! half the modds dont work or only half work. Also can only get a few pages into the modd browser before it claims there was a problem loading it.
Doom + Doom 2 is a collection of all official classic Doom campaigns along with 2 new campaigns. Gameplay feels awesome after you get used to it. At first you can get a bit motion sick but you eventually get used to it. Storywise the game is extremely simple and is mostly a background for the levels and gameplay. There's also a mod browser that allows you to download more levels/campaigns from independent developers. And all of this for £8. Occasionally on sale for £4 as well. I would highly recommend purchasing this.
Excellent update for the classic game which I didn't even know was coming to PC.
There are some improvements, for example Dead Zone in TNT, where we haven't been able to wake the last few Cacodemons in previous versions of the game without cheating, they do mostly wake up on their own this time around. There's other maps that have known bugs like that, levels you cant get keys in, that sort of thing, all improved across the board.
But now I'm on Plutonia and getting to the end of realm has been fun, but the game crashes on level completion. Not looking forward to pistol starting map 9... Not sure how you introduce bugs to a working game, but with Bethesda all things are possible.
Achievements are cool to have. Can't wait to check out the new episodes. Managed to fight my way through E4, Master Levels, and TNT since this came out. firsts for me. Love the update. mostly.
Overall a great way to play the classics. All the main games/episodes, along side SIGIL and a whole new episode by Machine Games with brand new enemies and a new weapon, bundled into a nice lightweight package. Its also pretty revolutionary for Doom to have console compatible mods, with a pretty easy to use mod manager.
The main gripes I have though would probably just be how the method for uploading mods seems extremely buggy, and surprisingly undocumented. Might seem simple to use but I run into so many errors trying to upload, and there's no guides for it, and the limits of what kinds of wads could be uploaded (can you upload any with Dehacked? Is it Boom compatible? etc. , etc.).
Theres also the fact that Coop in this port is the equivalent to being in a dream with both a cold sweat and a fever. Pickups feel extremely strained, especially since they can be only picked up once and wont respawn for other players. This makes it feel like you can have barely any weapons, ammo, and/or health/armor. There's barely any options or flags to modify the setup of a server (unlike server hosts like TSPG which can provide some pretty good configuration to modify the balance of the game and pickups for coop).
I personally run PrBoom+ or GZDoom but this is still a pretty good pack, especially for newcomers to the series who want to experience the classics in one good package.
I spent my money well, a great remaster of a great game. also you can play the MSDOS version of these games
Could've been the best way to play Doom if not for crashing when exiting some levels.
But even with this pretty major issue it is well worth it.
A nice remake with new episodes, and steam achievements added
It's DOOM 1+2, some of the greatest boomer shooters ever made. It also includes a ton of fanmade levels, keeping you busy for hours on end. You can run it on basically anything - that's Doom for you!
-Doom 1
Very solid game nice levels throughout the whole game. Does get a little repetitive without the doom 2 enemies however. Final boss is a bit dissapointing since you have a ton of bfg shots if you are smart.
-Doom 2
Levels falter a bit on this game for me to be honest but still very good. The new demons and weapon add a lot to the game and gameplay wise this just feels like Doom 1 perfected. Boss level isnt the best I felt.
-Doom 2 Master Levels
Not the worst. Just more levels for doom 2.
-TNT Eviloution
Very average experience, had amazing new music though. Levels are just all okay some stand out though. Gameplay is just Doom 2.
-The Plutonia Experiment
Doom 2 again with nicer levels. Oh and 2 million revenants.
-No rest for the living
Nice short expansion for doom 2 with solid levels.
-Sigil
Nice change of pace since its built from doom 1 so no doom 2 stuff. Very nice hell theme. Music goes hard asf.
-Legacy of Rust
The most unique experience. Very good with 2 new weapons like 5 new demons and very big and expansive and pretty levels.

Terrible PC Optimization:
Its doom. If you cant run it you are too far gone.

Time to Beat:
Doom 1: 5 Hours
Doom 2: 7 Hours
Master Levels for Doom 2: 6½ Hours
TNT Evilution: 6 Hours

Sigil: 2 Hours
Legacy of Rust: 6 Hours
Total: 41½ Hours

Hard to rate this since fidelity wise most the game looks like shit. But I love the retro game look so I cant rate it bad. The graphics get better and better as expansions get newer.

Gameplay:
☑ Very Fun
☐ Fun

Its Doom! running and gunning and dodging projectiles with your shotgun. All enemies and weapons add something to the sandbox. You can run around levels and search for secrets.

Amazing in all the games. Just listen to the ost and you will understand.

Mostly visual stuff like sprites sometimes clippng through walls.

Side-Notes:
This is also just a great way to get the wads for use in a source port.
8/10
A great way of replaying the original games, complete with a whole new episode.
The Doom + Doom II package brings the original games with modern controls, updated graphics and plenty of other features, including multiplayer and mod access. While there are other ways of playing the original games with updates and mods (such as using GZDoom), this is a neat all-in-one package that allows players to easily play the originals using modern controls. It also includes the Sigil and No Rest For The Living episodes (but not Sigil 2, unsure if this will be included later), along with Legacy of Rust, which is a brand new campaign with 2 episodes, two new weapons and some new enemies, textures and objects.
It works great for the most part and had a blast replaying the original games, although I did have to turn off vsync as it was slowing down mouse movement. Additionally, I also had some framerate issues while playing it - nothing that caused any major problems, but it was noticeable. Not really sure what might have caused it, as my PC should be more than enough to run it without issues.
Regarding the new episode, it does some things well and others, not so much. The first episode is great for the most part - it's creative and levels are well design - they look great, they aren't too complicated to navigate through and combat encounters are great, challenging in a good way (they don't feel cheap, player has plenty of space to move through and there are plenty of resources to grab while fighting). The new monsters are also cool, even though many of them are just different versions of other monsters. The new weapons are interesting - the flamethrower replaces the plasma rifle and has shorter range but higher damage, while the BFG is replaced with the Calamity Blade, which fires a projectile that pierces through enemies and can be charged to shoot a wider projectile based on charge level. The Calamity Blade is fun to use and can be even more powerful than the BFG... Although it has the downside that it can only shoot straight, so it cannot hit enemies above or below.
The second episode... It had its good moments and the final level is pretty cool, but it was also very frustrating. Combat encounters are just not well planned enough and often throw the player into ambushes where they have a very small space to move. The first level in special is a test of patience from beginning to end, with the player being attacked from all sides constantly and barely having enough ammo to deal with all enemies (and this is considering I played on Hurt Me Plenty).
I also think that it's a missed opportunity that they didn't include mouselook for these games, something that has been already done in other ports, like GZDoom.
Mod support is also very complicated to use and seems to be mostly focused on new campaigns, as activating a mod will instantly throw the player back to the first game. This makes using mods like smoother weapon animations pretty much impossible in any other campaign.
All in all, it's not perfect, but it's still a great way to play the originals.
What more can I say that has not already been said? This is a fantastic game. In my personal opinion, Doom and Doom II are one of the greatest shooters of all time. It holds up even after all of these years. I love the HD upgrade and the option to play the classic Dos or the modern overhaul. Fast pace gameplay, amazing soundtrack, goofy-as-shit sound effects, big fucking guns, cool box art, challenging puzzles, the list goes on. For the love of God, please play this game before it's too late...
Maybe I'm making my judgement a little early (haven't even completely finished Doom 1993), but this is a great game. What I was expecting was something that would be kind of fun and mostly give me cultural/historical knowledge, what I got holds up well against modern shooters in engagement and fun.
Been playing this series since the 90's, so this was nostalgic for me with so many fond memories. Played this series on multiple platforms since then. Always fun to pick back up, either solo or with friends locally or online. So many main expansions here to pick from plus some new ones... and tons of mods to chose from!
Highly recommend this to anyone who's a fan of FPSs.
THOUGH-
There's a major audio bug where everything sounds like it's underwater. And it came with the new update. I also can't change the game's resolution without making everything either blurry or in a weird squarish format that isn't 16:9. The non-updated DooM II, though, still works fine to me.
It was sooo close to being the perfect port, but the mandatory 60 fps should be optional, plus the new screen size/res configuration shouldn't had changed in the new update imo.
Anyways i had bad luck and the game should still be perfect for everyone but me :S
Return to Form
After years of cycling through countless Doom sourceports, each with its strengths and quirks, this new KEX engine port feels like a genuine return to form for the franchise—and it’s the first official sourceport that I actually enjoy playing. From classic titles to official episodes and comprehensive mod support, this port offers a well-rounded package that’s accessible without losing that classic Doom charm.
Content and Mod Support
For a single sourceport, it comes packed with content: Ultimate Doom, TNT, Sigil, and the all-new Legacy of Rust. Speaking of Legacy of Rust, this episode is arguably the best official content since Doom II’s original release. Not only does it include two new eight-map sections, The Vulcan Abyss and Counterfeit Eden, but it also introduces a set of specs called ID24. This ID24 standard, a proposed successor to MBF21, adds quality-of-life improvements and a treasure trove of assets for modders to use.
The mod browser is one of those rare cases where a company truly gets its fanbase. Navigation is smooth; submitting, downloading, and playing mods is a breeze. Most of the big-name community content is already available on it, from Sigil 2 to Super Mario Doom. It also brings full MBF21 support, allowing for vanilla, limit-removing, or MBF21 mods to run seamlessly. UDMF mods—typically designed for GZDoom—aren’t supported, but that’s understandable; GZDoom introduces modern features but often at the cost of compatibility. This sourceport keeps it classic yet functional.
Gameplay and Feel
The gameplay itself feels great, and this sourceport has landed in my main rotation. DSDA-Doom remains my choice for most community content, GZDoom is my pick for more modernized mods, and now the KEX port is there for casual play, especially with official content. Each sourceport has its unique vibe, and the KEX port feels more like classic Doom, with just enough high-def flair to make it pop. Performance-wise, it’s smooth at 144+ fps, even in ultrawide 21:9, where it manages to look crisp and vivid without losing its retro appeal.
Now, here’s something interesting: the Doomguy speed feels a bit cranked up here. People have commented that it feels like SR50 is on all the time, but I tested SR50 myself, and Doomguy still rockets off when it’s active. So, it’s not exactly SR50; it’s more like a subtle “sonic Doom” effect. I’ve played my share of vanilla-speed Doom, and I appreciate the slower pace, but this fast-paced style has its own charm—zipping through levels can be quite the rush.
Accessibility and Controls
On top of the gameplay enhancements, this sourceport nails accessibility and control support. For those inclined to play on a big screen, controller support makes it a dream to play on a TV, bringing Doom straight to the couch. There’s no vertical mouse look, which some might find divisive. Personally, I enjoy Doom with horizontal mouse look only—it just feels more fitting for the original design philosophy.
Audio and Visuals
The soundtrack is an absolute banger. You get the classic MIDI rendition in all its 90s glory, alongside a newly remastered instrumental track that seriously slaps. It’s the perfect pairing of nostalgia and modern polish for the classic Doom experience.
Who Is This For?
It’s a perfect fit for players looking for a one-stop-shop Doom experience or those who crave endless varieties of the Doom formula. The sheer volume of official content is a big bonus, especially since it can be legally loaded and played on other sourceports if desired. Each sourceport feels slightly different, and this one manages to feel both fresh and classic.
I bought Doom when it was just an emulated version of DOS Box years ago for my crummy Windows 7 Dell Optiplex. To see the game officially get such a nice treatment is something I wish all games of it's age eventually get. The new episode Legacy of Rust is especially superb and frankly makes this worth any price. As for the game, it's Doom. If you haven't played the original Doom, you should rectify that. Nightdive Studios are a team to be following for the forseeable future.
Where it all started! still having fun with this 2024. It is not that this game stood the test of time gameplay-wise or in any other way... it is just that it is so iconic, OG Doom is an experience, the soundtrack is kick-ass!
I'm playing on Ultra Violence, only saving when I pick up keys or start a new level, and I'm barely halfway through all of the total levels. This is the DOOM complete package (minus SIGIL II). It's crazy how much DOOM there is to play here. Amazing bang for your buck, and a must play for any gamer that's even slightly interested in the history of first person shooters.
Best way to play the classic Doom games if you ask me, Nightdive Studios did a great job. I love the remix soundtracks as well
If you're looking to play Doom in the modern age then look no further. I've always wanted to try the classics but didn't want to jump through hoops trying to get some source port setup correctly or play a half-baked port that's already existed so I got excited when I heard about this new port on a new engine. I finally bought it and it plays pretty nice! There's many different campaigns included so there's hours of content and online multiplayer both co-op and versus. Give it a shot if you wanna play Old-School Doom, it's probably not gonna get any better than what we've got here.
Pretty huge tuned-up rerelease; the new, beautiful official campaign (Legacy of Rust) and the opening of community addon uploading (even if it's hellishly messy at times) feels like people can reach the far ends of what classic Doom could be more than ever.
probablemente el mejor port de la historia, no solo de Doom si no en general, es un port hecho con tanto respeto por el juego original y tanto contenido extra que es apabullante tbh
Halloween about here and the game is like 4 BUCKS right now.....
Good fun, has some issues but they do work on it.
Improvements have already been made so i look forward to much fun with this one.
go ahead and get it!
Games fun and all, like really fun sometimes. But for some reason I am constantly crashing.. Usually when I exit a level or load a game.
The game has specific weapons, bullet weapons, shell weapons, and rocket weapons. Even laser weapons! The graphics is cool!
The game crashes every time I open the level map, and sometimes it lags so hard it just crashes in of itself, DOOM is a legendary franchise but I cannot reccomend this until its fixed
Really good games with old but good graphics!
One of the best games of all time, and this Steam version is very VERY good. It has enough options to play either vanilla or enhanced without overloading with way too many options like some source ports do.
So doom. It has been around since 1993. the OG dooms have gone through a few variations over the year. The KEX engine keeps all the old tricks and stuff from the OG"s, but enables wide screen, and the res is higher than the orginals.
They put SR50 back in for speed running, which makes it great for me. I would recomend this for anyone interested in "boomer shooters".
All in all it's a decent source port. I 100%'d the achievements, replayed each of the official DOOM/DOOM II expansions (SIGIL II is not in it for some reason) and played the new DOOM II expansion "Legacy of Rust".
My main gripes with the source port are mouse sensitivity being tied to FPS and what feels like inconsistencies in movement (bouncing backwards when hitting walls and wallstrafing occasionally going mad fast, although I might be forgetting these happening in other source ports). Replacing the Nazi imagery in the Wolfenstein secret level and changing the health crosses to green colors seem like pointless changes, but don't really bother me.
Speaking of Legacy of Rust. New weapons are boring and make me miss plasma and BFG. As for the new enemies: Mindweavers, Shocktroopers and Tyrants are alright, but the rest are meh. Level design is visually very impressive, the music is hit and miss, gimmicks (such as in the secret level Panopticon) are sometimes pretty fun, "puzzles" are alright, but overall I just wanted to get it over with and don't think I'll be replaying it again.
Didn't try multiplayer or custom WADs so I can't say much about them. I'd expect co-op to be less of a hassle than other source ports. Custom WADs are curated and I've heard the system has other issues as well (people mistakenly uploading WADs in order to play them, Thatcher's Techbase banned).
I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to replay the classic WADs in a modern source port without much hassle in the setup. If you're looking to play custom WADs however, personally I'd pick another source port.
Doom is one of the most important games in entire gaming history, especially for PC gaming. Everyone should once in their life play it, at least episode one, just to know how much progress games have made in the last three decades. Reviewing this old game at this point is redundant and unproductive, because everything was already told enough, multiple times. It is wonderful to see that Doom is still kicking and still luring to its claws more and more people, young and old. However I can say something about Nightdive port and its quality,
TLDR; use source ports. They are far better.
I cannot recommend this kind of sloppy work. It pains me, because I love Nightdive and what they do with all old games, how they bring it to modern audiences; I also love System Shock remake. But in this case I would rather respect my integrity than kiss their asschecks.
So, where do we start? How about from constant frame drops? And it's not because I have crappy rigs, because the Steam overlay always showed me stable 60 fps. No, it's because of the bad quality of coding. Doom runs natively in 35 fps, all source ports are doing their magic to upscale this to whatever fps player wants to be, but in this case this port is doing poorly. I was constantly experiencing prolonged fps drops to 40-50 until I paused the game and went to the menu. Fps drops happen randomly — I can go into the room and it happens, go back through the same room and it run smoothly.
Next — crashes. I played all the wads from start to finish and experienced around 20 random crashes to the desktop. It started around TNT and was persistent to the end of Legacy of Rust. Also, completely random, in one place in the same level I can run freely, next time it crashes. No idea why. Also — half of the time when I try to adjust a “safe zone” option (what the hell is this? Maybe a little explanation?) the game crashes unless I'm in the main menu.
There are also a lot of annoyances and little inconveniences. When I first booted the game, the mod browser didn't work, so yeah, good first impression. Moreover, Bethesda did what Bethesda can do best, which means f-thing up with mods: you can freely put mods that do not belong to you, don't work with this version, and players cannot downvote entry so it will go into darkness. So it's a mess. Yeah, it make thing easier for newbies, but dropping wad on gzdoom it's not a rocket science, they can figure thing out. Another little thing is showing gamepad prompts in the menu even when I don't have plug in my controller and using mouse and keyboard (which is, dear Microsoft, still a default control for the majority of PC Gamers, no matter what you try to push, scumbags). Yup, this is nothing, but clearly showing how unpolished and rough this version is; when trying to use non-English language in game it shows this disgusting font on the top of black box. It looked ugly and hurt my eyes.
Main point of my rambling is: Source ports are a far better option. They give us more freedom and run much, much better. Yeah, Doom purists will curse them, but don't listen to these dinosaurs, they are like 50 now, they will die soon, No one cares if few pixels are not aligned correctly, you old farts!
And now a few subjective words about every wad. Why? Why dogs licks their balls? Because they can.
Doom 1: Good, but basic. And after this many years, it's kinda boring.
Doom 2: Almost perfect. Just remove all city levels, Chasm and this FCKING switch that I need to shoot in Spirit World. I'm not a dev with 30 years of experience but even I know that you DON'T PUT NEW MECHANIC IN SECOND TO LAST LEVEL IN YOU GAME. It always, always fcking me up!
Master levels: Half of my time in level is trying figuring where i should go next or where they hide switches, instead of fighting. Great job guys with this, love humping every wall because you HIDE CRUCIAL PATH TO PROGRESSION IN “SECRET” ZONE!
TNT Evilution: HOW MANY FCKING LOW TIER ENEMIES CAN YOU PUT INTO TOO BIG LEVEL?! I'M TRYING TO PLAY, NOT TO FALL ASLEEP! THIS IS NOT A CALL OF DUTY, I DON'T WANNA FIGHT WITH HIT SCANNERS ON EVERY CORNER.
Plutonia: Finally. Some fcking good food. I developed severe paranoia when playing this wad. Every pickup is a potential trap, every room is a murder place. Even if you realize, it's mostly one trick phony design, it still brings a smile to my face pulling victory against all odds.
No Rest for the living: Only interesting thing about this wad is that it was exclusive for x360. Read this carefully. Doom — one of the most important PC games. Wad. Exclusive. For. A. Console. This is the biggest blunder since releasing doom 64 on a fcking Nintendont.
Sigil: NICE FICKING DESIGN ROMERO, TOO BAD IT'S TOO DARK TO SEE ANYTHING.
Legacy of Rust: I bet that if we did an unofficial release on moddb, some old doom farts would shake their heads and call it poor mod. It's fine, it's ok, I like music, even if it doesn't fit into doom, but the levels are too big and too convoluted (not like Evilution, but still) with too many enemies. And vassago… their attacks are too big compared to flame sprites. Also — fck coiled city, I hope designers get testicular torsion.
The game crashes after completing every secret level
Doom + Doom II evolved into a better remaster where you play the original two games and the expansion packs, especially the latest one Legacy of Rust thanks to Nightdive Studios.
Doom is a straightforward FPS game with elements of horror, science fiction, action and dark fantasy which makes it one of the most inspirational first-person shooters in history. The game starts off when you play as a space marine stranded on Mars while everyone else is either dead or reanimated into zombified foot soldiers. At the same time, you fight your way through countless hellspawn (e.g. imps, pinkies, lost souls, cacodemons, barons of hell), traps and hazardous environments (e.g. radioactive slime, lava) that can deplete your health if you’re not careful. The music made by Bobby Prince was catchy. The levels vary from design to design but some are more difficult and time consuming than others. The weapons are very efficient and good to use especially the chainsaw, pistol, shotgun, chain-gun, rocket launcher, plasma gun and the BFG 9000. The enemies vary from zombified humans to demonic hellspawn not hesitant to kill you at every turn. The items range from minuscule to really handy (e.g. supercharge, computer map and backpack containing extra ammunition). The secrets were useful but can be hard to find if you’re stuck. Overall, this game is a blast and deserves to be called a classic. Overall Rating: 10/10
Doom II takes place directly after Doom on Earth instead of Mars, proving that the full-on invasion by the hellspawn is far from over and you have to put a stop to their plans before it’s too late. The gameplay is exactly the same as its predecessor but with a new weapon (super shotgun), new powerup (megasphere) and new enemies (e.g. chaingunners, mancubi, archviles, revenants, pain elementals). The secret levels take creative inspiration from Wolfenstein 3D. Bobby Prince once again made great music for the game to add a bit of suspense, action and pacing. Overall, Doom II: Hell on Earth is an excellent sequel and thanks to it’s inspiration people made their own mods out of the Doom engine. Overall Rating: 10/10
Quick Reviews:
The Plutonia Experiment: The Plutonia Experiment was one of the expansion packs of Final Doom but shares the same gameplay and music as Doom and Doom II despite the different level designs. Overall Rating: 10/10
TNT Evilution: TNT Evilution was one of the expansion packs of Final Doom, but it also shares the same gameplay as Doom and Doom II despite the different level designs and slightly new added music. Overall Rating: 10/10
No Rest for The Living: No Rest of the Living is a pretty simple standalone expansion pack for Doom II. Nothing more, Nothing less. Overall rating: 9/10
Master Levels of Doom II: Master Levels of Doom II is a collection of levels made by different developers, each with their own unique design and structure. Nothing else has changed and still remains the same. Overall Rating: 9/10
Legacy of Rust: Legacy of Rust proved itself to be a bad-ass expansion pack of Doom II with new enemies, two new weapons and badass music that keeps you going. This game is a blast from start to finish. Overall Rating: 10/10
DOOM + DOOM II
Overall Rating: 10/10
All the original to love and more. So much additional content. So nice not having to deal with the DOS version! Everything just works. Works great with Xbox controller too.
It's Doom. You already own it on every platform under the sun, including other PC releases and even on your fridge. But there's no reason *not* to buy it again.
It's the greatest FPS ever developed, and even today there are excellent mods being made by the community. Nightdive did a wonderful job porting DOOM to their Kex engine, but you also get the necessary files (called WADs) for other source ports if you want to experiment. For example, if you want to look up and down, check out source ports like GZDoom.
It's DOOM. If you don't know whether you like DOOM or not, well you do. It's one of the most important FPS games of all time.
While the control scheme may feel dated, you may be surprised at how quickly you adjust to the mechanics. Furthermore, once you own DOOM, you can mod it through GZDoom or Zandronum in order to have free-look and other quality of life upgrades.
If you've played DOOM before, this release is worth it for the remixed soundtrack alone. Andrew Hulshut painstakingly recreated every track from both DOOM and D2, and they both carry on the original feel and melody of the soudntracks, while exploring the possibilities of those songs in extremely interesting ways.
The game also includes a nice array of post-launch releases and a robust mod browser.
Basically, if you don't own this collection, you should Go To Hell!
It's Doom. And Doom II. And A LOT of extra fun stuff. For $10 (Or equivalent).
old ≠ bad, doom isn't overrated its amazing, its a bit disorientating at first but it becomes more natural.
Endless mods make this one of the true must buy games - EVER. So worth getting if you don't own, there are 1000s ands 1000s of mods of anything you can think of pretty much.
Everything you love about old school Doom, all polished up and ready for violence. Stacked with content. Worth every penny.
Disclaimer: I've played a lot of DOOM but not a lot of this port. I realized it wasn't for me but it's still quite good!
It's not my favorite port, but it's the best one for anyone who isn't trying to do zero presses and glides.
What I like:
+Runs great, very smooth
+Cheat menu is very handy
+Crossplay is great
+"Your memory serves you well" when I enter needlessly obscure cheats like fhhall from Doom95
+Game logic works at 35fps, as God intended
+Option to always start with pistol is great (most levels, even custom ones, are designed to be beaten on pistol start anyway).
What I don't like:
-Stupid company icons as you launch the game. I know it's id (and Bethesda), and so does everyone else. First launch is ok but give us an option to disable it in the settings.
-Missing options: toggle for mouse movement, coordinate display, input display, short tics
-Need a way to reset all the settings to their defaults in-game. I changed my FOV but want the default back.
-Is SR50 always on? Because I feel like I'm going a little too fast. it'll also absolutely break sequences since most of DOOM wasn't built around SR50. If the logic runs at 35 fps, you'll absolutely fail to trigger linedefs or teleporters. But most people won't be straferunning anyway.
-Glides are probably impossible because mouse movement isn't a thing
-Achievements should be disabled if you turn cheat codes on. I guess it's easy to get 100% achievements on this.
-No demo compatibility (because no short tics)
Thoughts that don't change my opinion:
=Legacy of Rust is cool, but feels closer to Heretic and Hexen. Maybe that's intended?
=Green icons on medikits and stimpacks is really confusing since I'm used to the red ones. But, it's because the Red Cross is annoying, so I understand.
=Crosshair is cool but I turned it off. I'm not sure if they fixed the issue of never truly firing from the center, but I turned the crosshair off immediately.
=Fireblu will still obliterate your bitrate, it is inevitable
=Do you think Sunder can run on this? Sunder runs like shit on this
Overall, I think it's more than enough to suit all but the fringest, sweatiest use cases, but as a fringy sweatlord, it doesn't quite do it for me. How often do I zero press? Never. How often do I glide? Rarely. How often do I SR50? Every night before bed. Despite that, I'll probably find myself playing it just so I can play with friends. The alternative is Zdaemon, and I'm not really into that either.
I'd recommend it to everyone except maybe 4shockblast. Even then I'm sure he's not bitter and nostalgic like I am and will have fun with it.
Perfect, huge content, nice KEX port, huge amount of BOOM compatible mods and wads in the browser for endless content. Faithfull to the original game and all packed in a modern interface.
