About the Included Games:
Doom (1993) - Original Version
The demons came and the marines died...except one. You are the last defense against Hell. Prepare for the most intense battle you’ve ever faced. Experience the complete, original version of the game released in 1993, now with all official content and Episode IV: Thy Flesh Consumed.
Doom II – Original Version
Hell has invaded Earth, and to save it, you must battle mightier demons with even more powerful weapons. This beloved sequel to the groundbreaking DOOM (1993) introduced players to the brutal Super Shotgun, the infamous Icon of Sin boss, and more intense FPS action.
TNT: Evilution
The UAC relocated their experiments to one of the moons of Jupiter. A spaceship, mistaken for a supply vessel, was granted access. But when it got close to the base, demons poured out. All your comrades were slaughtered or zombified. This time it's not about survival. It's about revenge.
The Plutonia Experiment
Every effort has been made by the nation's top scientists to close the seven interdimensional Gates of Hell, but one portal remains open. Alone, you must infiltrate the ravaged base, defeat the demon Gatekeeper, and seal the last Hell portal before the undead take over the world.
Master Levels for DOOM II
This expansion includes twenty additional levels, all with the same hell-spawned horrors and action of the base game. Each level was created by independent designers and supervised by id Software.
Sigil
Created by id Software co-founder, John Romero, and released as an episode-sized mod consisting of 18 new maps, Sigil fits in between the timelines of DOOM (1993) and DOOM II. Baphomet, the gatekeeper of Hell, “glitched the final teleporter with his hidden sigil, whose eldritch power brings you to even darker shores of Hell. You fight through this stygian pocket of evil to confront the ultimate harbingers of Satan, then finally return to become Earth’s savior.”
Legacy of Rust
Created in collaboration by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, Legacy of Rust is the newest episode for DOOM, and the first official episode since DOOM II to feature new demons and weapons. This 16-map Episode is broken up into two 8 map sections: The Vulcan Abyss and Counterfeit Eden.

Game keep crashing when i check the map. I can't recommend it until this fucking bug is fixed. Otherwise it is legendary action-packed old DooM as I remember from my childhood with extra load of new maps and episodes.
Very fun even 22 years after it released, not worth $17 though, buy it on sale.
The classic we all know and remember with the second game included as well!!! If you originally bought just the first Doom on steam they give you the second one free. Includes new deathmatch, multiplayer, and additional episodes that were not in the original game. 10/10!!!
perfect og doom game platform, if you want to play old doomms you can get literally everything for 8 quid, its amazing
Fantastic games that still hold up to this day, but the Kex client is prone to crashing. The games are best experienced in a source port.
Mostly good but they censored the wolfenstein map. So down vote for them censoring the game
id has been amazing at preserving their old titles. the new expansion is very fun too.
without a doubt the best release of doom.
A great collection of everything old-school Doom. It's just brilliant!
This is easily one of the best ways to experience Classic DOOM. Prior to the 2024 re-release, I wouldn't recommend it. But now with the addition of custom map support + the Andrew Hulshult soundtrack, I can't recommend it enough!
Playing Legacy of Rust is like being the victim of a roast session, yet you can't help but laugh along at its insanity. The levels are exceptionally well-designed—creative and making ample use of the engine and previously unused models. The level designs are fresh, immersive and addictive. While occasionally frustrating, the game delivers just the right amount of dopamine to keep you ripping and tearing until it's done.
The music hits all the right notes. While Doom’s gameplay is engaging enough on its own, the soundtrack significantly amps up the experience, and this expansion is exhibit A in that regard. It only adds to the list of tracks I can play in the background while muting Doom 64's.
-Turn off all of the new junk like pitch-shifted sounds and the clunky crosshair
-Best remastered collection of classic Doom made to date
-Player movement felt stuttery last time I played
-You can probably mod the old health packs and Wolfenstein levels back in
A Classic, Godfather of the fps genre, neatly packaged with its even greater sequel, including all (or almost all) the bells and whistles you would want to make your play through as enjoyable as you would want it, while maintaining its base premise that made the game one of the best of its time.
For that reason alone it is an obvious recommendation, so to have multiplayer and the publisher not ruin what was already great as a bonus, makes this a must buy.
Fun game, but some of the levels were way too cryptic to complete. Some things you would just never know without looking up a guide.
Easily one of the best FPS games ever made. I genuinely would not love FPS as a genre as much as I do if it weren't for this game. DOOM 1 and 2 are some of the most tightly crafted experiences to this day and the expansions you have access to amazing as well. I highly recommend picking this up if you haven't already.
The classic DOOM, one of the best FPS games ever made. This port is absolutely amazing and contains a lot of content.
still really fun to play after all these years, with years worth of content. Although ammo being extremely limited is a turn-off for me, i really enjoyed playing it.
The Enhanced Editions of Doom and Doom II are outstanding. The games run well, look crisp, and feature several (optional) tweaks that make them more palatable to modern audiences. What used to require a "source port" that needed to be downloaded separately and used by most players is now built into the official product.
As games, Doom and Doom II are classics that revolutionized video games in the early 1990s. They hold up well today, having inspired countless copies and a bajillion maps, mods, and total overhauls. Endless entertainment. I highly recommend them if you're into old-school shooters or are looking to try one.
With mods being playable on multiplayer, this really elevated the fun factor!
I feel a bit of delay and some issues with hit-detection from the multiplayer though so beware, even so, being able to go through iconic mods with a friend is definitely a highlight for me.
Oh and Legacy of Rust is there too (It's also really good)
This one of the best ways to play OG DooM in the modern era, short of playing it on a pregnancy test. Key word, "one of".
The game itself is practically ripped straight from DOS. Everything here lines up exactly with DooM 1.9. Everything from the lighting, enemy sprites, pistol on death, sound, and it even keeps a few of the bugs for old times sake. Cheat-codes are also here to stay, and fortunately you can just use those and some quicksaves to cheese 90% of the achievements. Game's also complete with its own megawad in Legacy of Rust, Andrew Hushult's take on Bobby Prince's work, and the worst settings menu known to man.
They also fucked up the secret message and the console can only show one message at a time, all in that same mushy menu font. It may cannibalize your CPU for no good reason, and you'll probably have a better experience just pirating the IWAD and sticking it in CrispyDoom. The vault's cool though, good way to dodge twatter at least.
This game may be authentic, but its authentic to a fault. Lacks any of the modern conveniences most sourceports offer such as freelook, autosaving, extended movement, comp settings, and I'm not even sure if this can natively make and run demos. Unless you want to play Doom as it was intended, this is not the way to play, at all, whatsoever. Does come with DOSBox though.
Good news though, this has all the files you need to run a sourceport. I use GZDoom personally, so to get that running:
First, find the wad files in this game's directory. They're all under BASE.
Second, download GZDoom, stick it in a file, and copy your wads into that file. If you did it right, the GZ exe should detect them and let you boot it up in GZ.
For Wadmania, you're gonna need ZDL. Google it, go to the github link, and find the Windows version. Install, make three folders inside GZ's directory (One for wads, one for ZDL, and one for outdated versions of GZ for compatibility purposes.) Go to General Settings and point out all your GZ exe's and doom wads. Via the Launch Config tab, you can load multiple wads, files and pk3's simultaneously, while without it you can only load one.
A good number of gameplay mods need Doom 2 due to the SSG and enemies, yet you can combine all of those IWADS via a little tool called WadSmoosh. If you're running Windows, use the defunct original as it has an EXE by default. Stick all your IWADs in the folder, open program, Y + Enter, and after a few seconds it'll make a pk3 full of every single map, track and episode from all the IWADs you provided, letting you smuggle an SSG into Knee Deep in the Dead.
After that comes sourcing your wads. All the notable ones come up either in the ZDoom forums or ModDB. I also recommend watching IcarusLIVES and his Doom Mod Madness series, covers a metric fuckton of quality wads and gives links for all of them. You can also browse the Caco Awards via the Doom Wiki (the official one, not the scamdom one), yet they tend to focus on maps and TC's over gameplay mods
If you encounter any errors on trying to boot it up, either your loaded mods are incompatible, one of your mods failed to install, or a mod's outdated. For the first, keep in mind to separate and properly label and categorize your mods; unless specifically stated, gameplay mods don't mesh well together and TC's are a solo act. For the second, reinstall it. Some mods, especially TC's and megawads, can take a lot of time to install, and if the file's a PK3 its usually best to leave it unzipped. If its the third, find the date of your wad, find a GZ version that best matches that date, and stick it in that crusty-ass GZDoom folder I told you to make a paragraph ago. Label both the offending wad and the GZ version's EXE, make sure the GZ's an option in ZDL, and you're good to go.
If you're here solely for MyHouse, GZDoom v4.11 is incompatable, but 4.10 is. Here's a link for that version: https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=76913
Prior context is needed to best enjoy it, at the bare minimum get to Dead Simple in Doom 2 before playing MyHouse. This is not to gatekeep, this is to make you familiar with how Doom 2 looks, sounds, and works.
For mods I played myself and work well on GZ 4.13:
Hideous Destructor, completely transforms Doom into a tactical milsim game and reworks AI and enemies to be far more dangerous. A fun experience, but for the love of all that is holy read the manual and bind your keys before you even think of playing.
Project Brutality, Brutal Doom but moreso. Guns are beautifully-modeled and animated, enemies are also reworked with all kinds of dangerous variants and upgrades, and you can dual-wield quad-barrel shotguns, which is only eight barrels less than Russian Overkill's record.
Speaking of, Russian Overkill's perfect for suitably-absurd maps like Nuts and Okuplok. To make it somewhat balanced, you can also mix it with Colorful Hell, which brings Fortnite rarity into the enemy roster with the expectation to "make the game more immersive" with the resulting pain and suffering.
LiTDoom is still in its early infancy, and the hud doesn't play well with widescreen, but its actually pretty fun to give it a whirl. In short, it seeks to turn Doom 2 into a survival horror game, without losing much on that punchy frenetic action. Guns require maintenance, enemies hit hard, ammo is scarce, but the pump-action is a fucking gib-o-matic with a deafening boom that makes my pants turn white.
Doom RPG Rebalance is so complex that it comes with GZ built-in (conveniently enough, it's 4.10). Stick your IWAD in, and now you can play Doom Diablo with all kinds of fuckery to toy around with.
For all your mapping needs, there's The Compendium, a vast collection of iconic mappacks from the early days of the Doom Modding Community, perfect for any occasion or just to see how far doom modding has come.
In short, this port is kinda ass but its good to dodge piracy and get the master levels for wadsmoosh, also Andrew and Doom 3 F.A.A.T.L.W.H.L.N.E.
The Music? Fire. The Gameplay? Good The Enemies? Awesome? This Game is amazinghttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2280/DOOM__DOOM_II/#
The best modern port of Doom, it contains absolutely everything and then some. My complaint is with the launcher, you can beat E1M1 on the DOS version in the time the launcher takes to load. I would like a way to speed the launcher up.
Been playing Doom for years now, there is no reason not to play. (Most of my hours are using the shareware on rPi or using the Microsoft Store/Xbox version because I used to have an Xbox but that thing was garbage and the hard drive lynched itself.)
kinda broken on the steam deck due to menu crashes. might as well play doom with other source ports instead.
I think for anyone's first time playing the old dooms. this isn't a bad purchase.
it runs very smoothly and overall is really good.
the only issue is that it crashes a LOT.
which sucks because it prevents you from completing the game. until that's fixed, this will be a (loved) thumbs down.
An absolute classic, DOOM and DOOM Eternal wouldn't feel so good if it wasn't for these 2 masterpieces, simplistic but so FUCKING FUN. Perfect for anyone who loves simplistic gameplay design and/or old (in general) games (those from the 80s to 90s)
My most favorite game of all time. Great game, great port.
My only complaint is you can't play any of the custom WADs online to my knowledge so you'll need to use a source port like Zandronum if you want to use those.
Also for those who are new to Doom mods: Brutal Doom and Myhouse.wad WON'T work on this port. Those rely on a source port like GZDoom or Zandronum to work. Anything ending in .pk3 won't work either.
The base games are great if not a little outdated. Most of the expansions have bad level design
The absolute best. Rip and tear, until it is done.
Military shooters are a dime a dozen. Hero shooter are more likely to crash and burn than not. Extraction shooters are just the latest fad. Doom on the other hand...
Doom is eternal.
It's Doom & Doom II,what more do you need to know? Yeah it comes with the extra add ons like TnT,Plutonia,Sigil, etc. but it's Doom & Doom II,get it? Got it? Good.
the game crashed when i went to hell, i dont think even steam itself can take the amount of masculinity and awesomeness of this game
its shocking how good this game still is.
modern keyboard and mouse controls and a high resolution and framerate does wonders
a really great package of classic games
8.2/10
People tend to recommend that you get a nice, leather bound hard copy of your favourite book, that the satisfaction is worth it.
This is truly the ultimate edition of Doom, short of modding the game into something it was never meant to be. And it gives you all of the files of the original DOS versions. Thus I would say this is the video game equivalent of "getting a nice copy of your favourite book". The satisfaction is worth it if you ask me.
That said, 10 EUR/USD may be a bit much for some regardless, especially if you consider that it may go to Bethesda more so than not. But beware that it frequently goes on steep discounts and is also part of other attractive bundles.
It's the OG Doom and all its siblings - even Sigil. No Doom 3 (completely different style of game) or Doom 64. Love it all. Nothing more needs said.
This is the original game that pioneered First person shooter genre. The graphics and game play is still relevant considering the age of the game.
This is a must have game for anyone who wants to experience the nostalgia of Classic Doom games.
In the first age, in the first battle
When the shadows first lengthened, one stood
He chose the path of perpetual torment
In his ravenous hatred he found no peace
And with boiling blood he scoured the Umbral Plains
Seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him
And those that tasted the bite of his sword named him
The Doom Slayer
80/100
Pretty good remaster. Only had a few issues with the Kex engine crashing for whatever reason but 90% of the time it runs good.
Lots of campaigns/episodes to keep you busy, didn't like half of them personally lol. Legacy of Rust (the new episodes) just got annoying after a bit.
Let me just say that this is an AMAZING remaster, they kind of over did this. But there are some issues. First, the classic font is always in a black frame, the original games didn't have this problem. Second, where are the messages when you try o quit the game, it would make for a cool achievement for getting all of these. Overall this is a pretty good remaster of the first and second game, wish they did this with wolfenstein 3d and spear of destiny.
This is NOT the definitive way to experience any DOOM experience remotely.
However, its both episodes of Doom, the DLC WADs (or whatever) and excellent plug and play support for mods.
This game is very good and the RUST maps is most fun in my opinion. Very long and hard game to 100% without cheating, I say the UNTOUCHABLE achievement is the hardest achievement, and Plutonium is the hardest map pack.
This review isn't for the game, it's fantastic, but for the port itself.
The current underlying engine this is using, KEX, has a ton of issues, main few being that
* The mouse speed is tied to the framerate.
* Multiplayer netcode is just... eh.
* The WAD Browser is quite heavily scuffed.
Overall, buy this just for the IWADs or if you got a friend on console that you want to play with.
Otherwise, please look into and select one of these sourceports below. You'll also get my personal say on each.
* Woof: Very good for casual, yet engine accurate way of playing the older games. It also supports features from this port like the weapon carousel and the Remix OST without having to modify the extras.wad file.
* Nugget Doom: Literally Woof with some extra features, worth trying out if you like Woof.
* Crispy Doom: Good for casual play, but can only do Vanilla and Limit Removing maps. A ton of features from here are also present in Woof/Nugget Doom.
* DSDA-Doom: Very, very good way of playing the older games that are extremely accurate to current and older versions of id Tech 1, among it's forks like Boom and MBF. It also has a hardware renderer that looks extremely good. Current version (28.2 of the time of the review) has a sound bug on complevels 2, 3, and 4. Includes a good amount of speedrunning utilities if you are into that realm.
* Nyan Doom: DSDA-Doom but with some QoL & visual features. It also brings back the ENDOOM screen to the port. Look into this if you liked Woof, Nugget, or Crispy, but as well as DSDA-Doom.
* GZDoom: Okay way of playing the older games casually, just do not expect vanilla gameplay. Settings menu is kinda bad and the defaults are horrible. Tons of mod support due to its engine features, though.
* LZDoom: Basically GZDoom but it can run on older hardware and is lacking features. I suggest looking at the ports above (Minus GZDoom) for ports that'll run on old hardware, though.
Classic game, kill demons and fight for your life. Not much more to it though, some levels can be a little confusing.
The Classic Dooms are absolute master pieces, however I cannot reccomend this re release of the classics... I played through the first DOOM with no problems but unfortunately i encountered my first issue when exiting MAP10 on DOOM 2 as it would crash everytime I attempt to exit the level, same went for MAP15. I have had 0 issues with the source ports of DOOM such as ZDOOM and GZDOOM and it is an absolute shame that they failed to port these correctly as the crashes are beyond a joke.
Doom 1 and 2 are milestones in video game development, which strongly influenced all 1st person shooters thereafter. If you want to know where some mechanics or behaviours of FPS games come from, you might want to have a look at these two classics from the early 1990s. Of course, they lack all the details and additional motivating elements of contemporary games, but the basics remain the same. Story-wise, there’s only a minimalistic plot to tell: demons invade earth, the player fights back until they are expelled from the planet.
The re-release keeps the overall old-school graphics, look and feel while adding a great overhaul of the soundtrack. If you want to give the visuals a big nudge into the direction of very modern rendering as I did when I played them (that's why the play time is missing on Steam) and call a ray tracing GPU your own (I’d recommend at least something like an RTX 3070 for a good experience), have a look at corresponding mods, e.g. from “PR Boom” (Doom 1 only added RT effects) or “GZ Doom” (Doom 1 & 2 RT and additionally replaced enemy sprites with 3D pixel-style models). They will miss the new music but probably there’s mods out there also fixing that.
After about 25 hours play time in a completionist approach (only the main games), here's my pros/cons list:
Pros:
+ great port to modern systems including controls
+ look into early era of FPS games of the early 1990’s
+ minor additions to the game
+ kept overall old-school look & feel
+ awesome soundtrack overhaul
+ all episodes of each game modernised and included
+ includes all common mission packages, some fan base package and a direct connection to the modding community
+ fast-paced gameplay
+ arcade style
+ level variety
+ 2nd instalment continues and concludes “story” of part 1
+ easy, simplistic FPS gameplay, can get into it “on the fly” at any time
Pros:
- Gameplay gets repetitive quite quickly
- Quite repetitive level layout
- Classic “find access token to progress to next level section” style
- Some level design and decoration elements block player’s movement, especially annoying during tough, high difficulty combat
- Next objective or access to next level section often hard to find, some even deliberately hidden
Conclusion: If you’re interested in game development history and want to experience some of the old legends from the early FPS days, you should definitely have a look at the Doom 1 & 2 package including all episodes, the main expansions and much more. It’s a great re-release keeping the old-school look and feel. Recommended (especially with 3rd party ray tracing mods added)!
Rating: 6/10 points
Best FPS ever made. Always a fun to (re)play. Lots of WADs out there to try like Ancient Aliens.
Runs perfectly on Linux (lol).
mp cooperative - multiplayer in general needs some touch ups here and there but still good ol vanilla doom running with modern day goodies!
Doom is a classic FPS that is a blast to play. I'm using it to learn good gaming skills before moving to more modern games but its age and simplicity definitely do not make the game any less fun.

I had pirated Doom 1&2 at the century before. Now i paid and it felt sooo good as a modern game with achievements and runs as fast and crisp as a localhost web server HTML page
Game is perfection, is you love old school doom, this is an instant buy. All the original WAD's plus you can get all (well most) the community WADs inside the game. So awesome
