Input lag combined with insane difficulty makes this game unplayable compared to the rest of the franchise which is actually *fun.*
There's *nothing* enjoyable here. Avoid like the plague.

I haven't actually played the game. I just kept launching it until it reached 5 mins so I can write a review:
The game always crashes right after SNK intro, always. I tried looking up the community discussions and apparently the issue has been around forever. I tried setting the both .exe to run as administrator, no luck, tried setting compatibility to Windows 8, no luck either.

A Metal Slug fan
Just bullet hell, no metal slug. I played all three metal slug start to finish deathless on normal difficulty, this one is just pure chaos and you just get angry playing it.
honestly, still pretty good, it does feel a bit less responsive, i suspect it might be due to the 30 FPS cap but im not sure, playable
the levels and enemies are fun for the most part, but i do feel a couple of encounters are BS, the Mission 5 boss is particularly BS in my opinion
but you do get all the gameplay improvements of Metal Slug 6 so theres that, so overall my rating would be

Metal Slug 6
Metal Slug 1/5/XX (they are roughly equally enjoyable)

This is sadly not the same PSP port we all knew and loved, it had some gameplay adjustments with a forced free play mode and bad text font for the dialogues together with the absence of options like changing the controls and whatnot. I know the storefront says no online multiplayer but I am sure if SNK cared we would have received one just like with the other Metal Slug ports. I wish if their port was based on the XBOX 360 version instead, which offered a better experience overall.
I had a bad experience with the technical aspects of the port, namely with the crashes, inconsistent input lag and the pain of expecting some input shenanigans if I would alt-tab out of the game, I wish if code mystics took care of the port in my honest opinion given their good experience with porting old SNK games.
I wish I could rate this as something between yes and no, yes for the nostalgia and no for the quality of the port. I paid aprox. 4€s for this and it is honestly what it deserves, you would get robbed if you paid the full price.
I don't know why this has mixed reviews. But as a 90s kid, I love playing this. especially when internet is down. if there's something to complain here is it was too short for me. 7 stages seems only. I remembered playing this for hours, not minutes lol. or i'm so used to it? dunno. also, the storyline was not quite entertaining as it was before. anyway, these crybabys can sckass. having this game on steam should be a blessing.
I mean, you've seen the mixed reviews already, it's not gonna change from that, ever. The game itself is a mixed bag, so whether you give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down you're right.
This is a low effort port of a remaster of Metal Slug 7, and it shows. The background compression is horrible, and even if it weren't, there's not much to look at there. But it is challenging enough, and that can keep you going. It has some nice bosses, and the mission mode on the training school mode is a nice little idea if you like to train and improve your skill.
You should get this on a huge sale, and only after you've played all the other numbered games enough and are still curious about this one. That's what I did. It's a shame Metal Slug doesn't get a proper collection treatment, like Metal Slug Anthology. It deserves more.
Considering that this game is originally a remake of the DS game called Metal Slug 7.
This port is really bad! Like the whole Metal Slug Arcade available on Steam!
It shouldn't be this bad and it has no right to be this bad.
The frames is laughable and the setting is potato. You can't even properly map the keyboard :/
I literally known the fact that this port is bad but I just wanna show how much this series meant to me by buying this hot mess of a port. I've been a Metal Slug Fan since I was a kid and I even played the Metal Slug 3D back then! (Good Stuff and underrated one)
For a fan, You can simply grab this so you can display this on your library. If not, I'm sorry i don't recommend!
Play this on PSP emulator instead or the Actual PSP. Maybe the console Port is much better but who knows?
Also, Please bring the Metal Slug Anthology to modern platform please?
Metal Slug double X more like double shit, I'm a lifetime long fan of the Metal Slug games having played them for hundreds of hours back in the arcade days and then on the console ports but this is seriously the worst Metal Slug game i've ever played!
Seriously, it feels like whoever made this never played the classic games, the level design is ASS and they all look the same and the backgrounds lack details.
There are NO character transformations like previous games where you could turn into a zombie, a mummy or fat.
Bosses aren't memorable and are pretty boring, the final boss in particular just felt like any other boss.
Now to add salt to the injury the port is also kinda unstable and sometimes doesn't even boot, it took me 3 tries before it finally run although i couldn't make it run full screen.
Overall save your money and buy one of the MUCH better older games like 3 or X
You can't get fat
The Metal Slug series has always been a favorite sine the original SNK Neo Geo MVS arcade games and this game is no different! A bit tougher with the bosses and stage level designs but all and all, a great game!
kinda bugged with controllers, awful input lag, and no so epic compare to the others
fan of Metal Slug game series, this is one more that I loved. Better to play with more friends.
