A short, interactive point-and-click story with choices and a mood system, where your actions and words will increase or decrease your character's mood. The mood will affect some of the future dialogues, as well as the endings. Since the story is experienced from 3 alternating characters, when they interact with each other, the mood comes into play, and a low mood of one character can cause negative responses from them, in turn affecting the mood of the one they're talking to.

Nice prequel for Snares of Ruin (no Gwen, though, since it's before Hank and her arrive).
It would improve easily IMO if the first days in the game you played as Mira's father at the laboratory.

This is the kind of prequel you play after the original game.
It's short, and it doesn't explain much of the setting, but it does a much better job than Snares 1 of fleshing out the supporting cast.
Instead of playing as one investigator, the narrative swaps back and forth between the three ladies, making for a nice interwoven plot.
Snares 0 cuts basically all of the game systems from Snares, but it's still kind of satisfying. Instead of tracking skills, 0 tracks mood, which changes based on optimistic or pessimistic dialogue, very short sidequests, gameplay choices, and story beats.
I guess it's a little like changing the music that plays during a one-track trolley problem, but because the plot of Snares 1 is already set in stone, 0 limiting the effect you can have to strictly the tone of the story makes sense from a design perspective.
The writing in 0 feels slightly less edited than in Snares 1, and there's a couple minor typos or spots where things feel stilted. However, the personalities and decisions of the characters were more interesting than I expected. Nobody's extremely three-dimensional, but they're definitely more fleshed out.
Overall, I don't think I'd recommend this to anyone who didn't enjoy Snares 1, but if you're like me and you're willing to see where this Snares trail leads, I think it's worth checking out.

Snares Of Ruin Zero is a casual independent story-rich R.P.G. both developed and published by Astronomic Games. This title is a prequel to Snares Of Ruin and takes place two weeks before ace detective Hank Anderson and his trusty partner Gwen arrive in the city of Cromford to conduct their investigation into the strange occurrences. With this installment, you'll get to see how many of the events that transpired in the first title actually happened and from the point of view of three major characters in that game as well so this is a must have for anyone who has played Snares Of Ruin and of course loved it like I did.
GAMEPLAY
This is indeed a roleplaying game yet the gameplay here differs slightly from the previous title. Whereas in Snares Of Ruin Hank gained experience for skill points that could then be distributed to Athletics, Charisma and Erudition, this title uses a mood based system which can affect how other characters react to you as well as how events unfold in the games narrative as a result of those reactions. Just as in the original title, exploration is encouraged and yields potential bonuses such as additional items that can help you achieve various objectives as well as a chance to acquire extra side missions and even achievements that you would have otherwise missed.
Also, I always have so much fun in these games just wandering around and talking to or eavesdropping on N.P.C.'s just to hear what they have to say. You can hear things about what's going on in their lives or current events in the city as well as some hilarious banter between friends. And of course a staple of these games is the non-linear gameplay which is definitely present in this title. Choice also matters as the decisions that you make can and will have an impact on current events and how the story ends to a degree.
VISUALS
As with Snares Of Ruin, the visuals in this edition are wonderful especially the excellent character artwork used in the dialogue sequences. The game also uses a palette full of bright and beautiful colors that are quite pleasing to the eye. As for the locations they are laid out very well and nicely detailed when compared to the sparse and barren nature of many of the other RPGMaker titles that I've played previously on Steam. In my opinion, as a RPGMaker title this game does an excellent job of providing a terrific visual presentation.
SOUND
I really enjoyed the sound quality of this title. The sound effects during gameplay were terrific for various things like cell phones ringing, knocking on doors, the sounds of combat and various other things. I also loved the soundtrack but sadly it's not available in the game files or as downloadable content which is a shame. Overall, I would say that the aural presentation of this game is very well done.
CONCLUSION
This was a great entry in the franchise and it does a fantastic job of answering some questions that you may have had about the first title. The only drawback is that this game is quite short as I managed to finish it in just over three hours nevertheless it was time well spent. I would also like to add that, unlike Snares Of Ruin, I did not have any technical issues whatsoever with this title and it ran as smooth as butter. In summary, with an engaging albeit very short story that leads into the events of the original game, Snares Of Ruin Zero is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to fans of Astronomic Game titles and the story-rich R.P.G. genre.

Prequel of Snares of Ruins the original, this installment helps you to get more easilly into many doors you were wondering what was behind in the first instalment and have a lighter ressource based and dating based story. It is somehow totally empowering for the girl power mood up there.
Still point and click mostly with consequence of choice that also fluctuate the character's moods and for some tasks, it helps when the mood it way up to accomplish some other story bits.
Strangely enough, while outside there is a lot of monster and zombies survival games, this one is around plot and intrigues. I like that refreshing aspect and some easter eggs.
I have hower a con and I dunno if it will be fixed; I stopped playing each time I saw that circular arrow spinning thinking it meant something needed to finish loading instead of clicking or pressing Enter.
Very few bugs, including one that isn't game breaking. Sometimes you really need to use the mouse to speak to someone behind a barricade and a police car facing up, like to speak to the barricade instead
And... The creator got really great at animating his sprites in that one. He outdone himself!
A nice prequel to Snares of Ruin, a really short game but it explains a lot, so, I guess everyone that played it should try this one as well. I dont meet any troubles, just when I received achievements I had some glitches in that zone after the notifications disapeared, so I had to press twice F4 to solve it...So I am waiting so much for part two and I hope to see a city more alive, I mean nobody is walking there besides the main character and it's looking pretty frustrating...Like I had stopped the time and only I can move...Thanks a lot and go on))
