Started playing. Game broke within the first fucking room. I'm not going to go through all the folder stuff just to reset my data. Mid ass game
This game broke me, not even gonna lie. To be honest, the only thing i dislike about this game is how short it is. Welp, i will be replaying it for sure. Hear me out, if you like games like undertale, just stop reading reviews and buy it, play it. Graphics and soundtracks are amazing(nothing beats undertale), i enjoyed this game very much
This game specializes in 'synchronization'. The methods that developers use to do so are simply wonderful. Something only a 'game' can execute, not other media sources. At the end of the first part, when you make a 'choice', it begs the question: Are you being dragged into this simulation, or are you trying to drag Niko, the main character of the game, into your reality? In other words, what was the 'direction' of this synchronization between the game(simulation) and the reality(your computer)?
Either way, in the end, you don't want to 'replay' this game for the achievements, or perhaps for a different outcome. At least for me. Normally, that's not a good thing. If you just cleared a game for the first time and you loved the experience, you would want to have another run.
But this game nudges us differently - of course, not having a load from save option unlike other games plays a part here. Rather than playing again, you cherish the 'one shot' you had with other people, who also had their own one shot. After making a choice and completing the first part, your head is full of 'what could have been's and frankly would have left a bigger impact than playing the Solstice part and completing the story. I guess I was too late to enjoy that tension, which pre-steam players did in contrast.
However, there's no doubt that the Solstice part played a brilliant role of 'wrapping up' the experience and making the game 'complete' - and unironically it augments the meaning of the title - One Shot. You finally wave goodbye to Niko and Niko waves goodbye to you, both knowing it's better for each other to not meet again. Are you going to reminisce about this experience? Absolutely. But are you willing to run it back? No.
Unironically had to buy a new keyboard because I cried on my old one. 10/10. Protect the (not cat) child.
Just finished this game and it is definitely worth buying it, a nice story with a refreshing gameplay. Personally one of my favourite games
Short and sweet. Makes you very emotional.
Separates the player from the character, makes the player care for the character(s). Then...
Simple but GOOD visuals, amazing soundtrack, magnificent atmosphere.
Love the fandom too!
11/10
Es un juego precioso en todos los aspectos, con una forma de contar las cosas única, una banda sonora memorable y una historia inolvidable.
La conexión que se forma con Niko es difícil de ver en un videojuego.
holy fuck man story made me want to be a better person and damn the art makes me want to ascend to a higher plane of consciousness so I can appreciate it more
Fun 8 hours story.
Crazy cool and unique mechanics involving how you "play" with the game
emotional ending.
++
one of the most beautiful fucking games i felt like that one gif of danny devito crying and clapping after i beat it
i would impale my foot with a rusty nail spiked with hiv for niko i love them so much
Play this game please. It's such a fun game and it's easy to play on and off but it can make you feel genuine emotion. Best 4 hour experience ever
who would've thought this silly little cat would make me question how i perceive digital media and characters
It's wonderful. An absolutely amazing work of art. If you haven't played it yet, what are you even doing?
Incredible game with great story, puzzles and characters. The ending was really tough to take though.
I genuinely don't know what to say. The visuals, the artwork, the emotions, the ending... I feel empty. This is one of the most immersive games I've ever played, with its (literal) out-of-the-box puzzles to its heart-wrenching dialogue. 1000000000% recommend, it will make you want to sob into a pillow.
OneShot is one of the coolest games i've ever played. From the dark atmosphere of the world, fantastic story building, amazing pixel art style, fun puzzles, and interesting characters, it leaves a lasting impression that makes me want to play it again. I love how the unique mechanics such as the occasional pop up windows from the mysterious entity and the save files you have to reference in your documents add an a flare to the game. It is certainly immersive as Niko speaks to you throughout the game, calling you by your name. Good luck to everyone who braves this dying world to transport the Sun!
Basically like UNDERTALE, but with fourth wall breaking. Amazing game with a lot of lore.
This entire game was one hell of an experience and an absolutely touching story.
Please, play it.
OneShot is a wonderful little puzzle-adventure game with an entirely unique approach to puzzles, storytelling and the dynamic between player and game.
While the average playthrough to the very end doesn't take very long to complete, the game makes up for it with how quickly it makes you care about the character(s) and the entire plot.
Similar to games like Outer Wilds and Omori, OneShot as an experience works best when you go in fully blind, which is also why I've kept this review as brief as possible.
Stop reading, play the game already.
Actually life changing, play this all the way through, take your time and my personal recommendation go in 100 percent blind
I found myself playing this game several years after it initially came out, thinking nothing of it. It was a simple game surely enough, restore the sun and get Niko home? How wrong I was..
This game provides a stellar soundtrack which I find myself listening to often, endearing characters and a compelling story that leads you to question your very own decisions. This is one of those games that I don't mind finding myself lost in as I let the soundtrack soar. I never found myself getting frustrated at this game, and instead found myself grappling my own choices alongside Niko's. Let's just say I had a conversation over whether or not my final decision regarding this game was the right one.
You've only got one shot or so you think , make the most of it and at the end of the day, let your feelings and mind guide your choices.
If you have played Undertale, Deltarune, Omori etc then you should definitely give it a shot. It is a game in which you take the wheel and determine the fate of the game and its characters. One of the most distinctive characteristics of this game is that you are in the foreground much more than the protagonist in order to progress in the game. For instance, the main character sees you as your guide and does things according to your decisions. Another example is that there are moments where the game expands its boundaries and makes you alter, move and take a look at the files in YOUR computer to advance in the game.
Also, the game has very nice artstyle and music. Characters are really cute and it is hard to think otherwise.
The story is also interesting and great though I wish it was little longer so we could enjoy it some more (But it is sufficient as is since one way or another it will leave an impact on you at the end of the game :D )
In conclusion, it is a rare gem that you cannot find always and if you have played games like this before, what are you waiting for? go play it!!!
I am definitely giving it a 5 star
i really like pancakes
... but in all honesty, i think this game has impacted me more than any kind of book or event ever could. it was worth every cent. i'll forever call this gem underrated no matter how much attention it gets. overlooked. one of the first, the puzzles were intriguing and fun to figure out. don't watch a video about this game, don't do anything. just play it blind. you'll never get to experience anything like oneshot again.
i hope you're happy wherever you are niko
My favorite part was when Niko Catburger said "It's OneShot'n time!" and lit the tower on fire with a molotov. So majestic, made me cry (After I 100% the game ofc) 10/10
Niko OneShot is NOT a cat. Great game. Had lots of fun and helped me through some tough times.
Peak.
Honestly, this is probably tied with CrossCode for being my number one favorite game. Sadly, I wasn't able to have the experience of playing this game without knowing anything, but it was still great being able to play through it. The music, the environments, the art, the characters, the puzzles, everything, Amazing. It is a well know game, but I still wish it was more popular because this game is something more people should experience.
If you haven't played this game and don't know anything about it, you should play it. If you have already seen what happens but haven't played it, you should still play it because playing it with your own device is an experience that you wont get from watching someone else play it.
Genuinely one of the most underrated indie games of all time. The vibes are immaculate, the artwork and character designs are top notch, and don't even get me started on the ost. This game will make you emotional no matter what type of person you are. Like I rarely cry and this sent me to a different planet. I can't recommend this game enough. 10/10
The best blind playthough of a game I've experienced in a good while.
also a spoiler for one of the puzzle solutions:
wallpaper engine should be disabled during you time here
Honestly the first time I've cried at a game. I played through the whole game on my other account, and it was heart wrenching. great story, OST, and world building. (plus it can be quite silly at times) 10/10
Phenomenal game. Amazing story telling and great emotional scenes. The game knows how to make the world feel alive and like it needs your and Nikos help. Incredibly meta especially in the true ending. 10/10 Loved every second.
Play this wonderful game, the story, characters, music, everything is perfect, it's the only game I wish I could fully forget so I could play it again.
Phenomenal game, it manages to hook you in and get you attached to its world and characters shockingly fast! Beautiful art, soundtrack, and super fun 4th wall-breaking puzzles! The emotional roller coaster that this game manages to inflict on you is incredible for its length. It's masterfully written and very emotional, you will be surprised to see how effectively this game can make you feel for it in just a few hours. If you're looking for a cute, thought-provoking, heart wrenching game, BUY THIS NOW!!
I love loVE LOVED IT!!! I installed it a long time ago, but never got around to it...until this week. I finished it in two days worth. I love that it forces you to think outside the box...or window! I don't see many games that do that, so it was a pleasant surprise! I will be gifting this to my partner so they can play, too. Thanks again for the amazing experience, and I'm excited for the new versions!
It's a cute game. Original in some ways. The gameplay involves solving "puzzles" that include combining items in your inventory and getting certain items to certain places. The only way to progress is talking to everyone. It's a short game, but it did drag a few times for me.
It breaks the fourth wall, and does so very well. You will find yourself in your file explorer for some tasks. It's unique, but also dull at times. The main character will address you, and this is supposed to pull you in.
The reviews over-hyped this game for me. I learned that I may not be a walking simulator guy. I also learned that while I love puzzles, I do not enjoy tasks that time up time and don't feel challenging, but instead obtuse or just.... time consuming. I do not mind getting a pen and paper, but if the puzzle is just memory based.... eh. The game felt like a chore too many times for how short it was.
The game wasn't fun. I really wanted to love it.
Still, bravo to the devs for something outside the norm. Buy it on sale.
beautiful everything from original sound track to story to characters to puzzles its just beautiful i recommend to go blind on this game its just a game that u wouldn't forget and it will stay as a great memory words cannot describe how i love this game so much
Truly one of the most unique games I've played. A stunningly beautiful game, made by wonderful developers.
This is probably one of the best games I have ever played. This is the definition of a "meta game". It's more than just the game changing files or something, there's wild segments you won't even believe, that you might forget it's a game entirely. The second Niko called me by my real name I knew I was in for something special.
This game made me feel a personal connection to all of the characters, Niko being the biggest example of this, more than just me playing as him, since it felt I truly had a role in this game's story even if I'm just a guy behind the screen lol. It should truly join other titles like Undertale in its huge influence and popularity.
I did indeed do the "DLC", and all of you should too once you did the main game. It's quite funny how you unlock it too, but I won't spoil it.
I'm also a huge fan of OFF and Yume Nikki, and I knew that both of these games greatly inspired Oneshot, and I could see this throughout.
This is definitely going in one of my favourite games of all time.
10/10
Amazing story and great gameplay. Would recommend, especially with multiple playthroughs.
I've wanted to play this for years but never got around to it until now. I understand now. There is something special to this game and makes it unique. It's pretty short but it doesn't subtract from the experience. This is one of those games that you should go in blind. Stop reading this review and play it already.
it is a fun and challenging game just can getting pretty annoying on mac especially if you trying to open the metal safe
Good game! Would Highly Recommend to anyone looking for an interesting game. It is like the trolley problem the game
i do and dont recoomend this game i got the save niko ending and i cried for like 5 minutes . the game is very good apart from the endings. i was telling my mom how good this game was but now i dont wanna tell her the rest of it. dont buy it if ur gonna cry , just watch a playthrough.
This game helped me at one of the lowest points of my life i cant thank the devs enough for making this amazing story 10/10
A good story, with a unique mechanic that isn't overused. Highly recommended.
WOW.
I just finished this game and I was not disappointed. First off, this game does not believe in the 4th wall at all.
Although the regular puzzles (combining items and then using them in the correct places) are alright, the meta puzzles are something else. I won't spoil too much but they were some of the most clever and interesting puzzles ever. You may have to check your files, drag the tabs around in windowed mode or so much more. Almost everything can be interacted with either if it's a puzzle or just some nice flavour text. The protagonist is lovable and so are all of the other characters you will meet. It's short and doesn't waste your time at all. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes 4th wall breaks as this game is full of them.
Graphics 10/10
Music 10/10
Story 10/10
Gameplay 10/10
I have zero complaints about this game, maybe apart from the difficulty of early game puzzles but that's about it.
Overall 10/10
10/10 This is one of the best stories I have ever seen. The fact that this game has this great of a story in such little time is crazy. Play this, now.
Genuinely incredible, and lots of 4th wall breaking (which I enjoy), and also very similar to Undertale/Deltarune (play them too!). It's a big puzzle game, but I recommend just playing it blind.
What are you waiting for? There's a huge "Add to Cart" button right there!
Great game for anyone who loves meta narratives (4th wall breaking taken seriously).
An adorable Cat Child finds themselves in a new world with a daunting quest.
And it’s up to you The Player to help guide them. You can make a difference in this world, what will you do with this chance?
Im not really good at reviews but i am in genuine awe on how quickly this game made me care for the characters and the story 10/10
Lovely game! Definitely worth the money spent and a beautiful visual novel. The puzzles are amazing and make you think outside the box, heh, and are very unique! It's short and sweet and lives up to the title.
A small thing I'd note is that the steam page mentions "choices matter" it's a little misleading imo since you're given few choices in the game, but that's not a critique of the game just smth to be aware of!
