It's way too good of a game. it gave me a mental breakdown and i can't help but feel like niko is real. and that they're somewhere else.
The game is very good all the way until the second half you play after the first "ending". The second run with the real ending ruins the entire game's story and appeal, on top of being generally dogshit to playthrough.
Probably the best story in a game I've seen, great music as well, only problem is that the game can get a little repetitive but that balanced out by the game being relatively short.
Lemme tell ya this game has been quite a treat! Its one of the more unique games out there when it comes to blending puzzles and story together, could even say it really immerses the player in it! Really makes you feel for the characters. I highly recommend to anyone that is interested in it.
Play this game. 11/10 for real. This game has set a new standard for puzzle games for me. Play it blind and enjoy it. This game is hard to compare or explain without spoilers and it is so worth the buy. No matter what i say its not enough to give it the credit it deserves.

For fans of Tunic, Undertale, and/or Outer Wilds. This game was freaking sick, an amazing 5-10h adventure with great mechanics and characters. 9/10, loved this one and as far as games go this one'll stick with me.

The lore and storytelling of the game is fantastic; my favorite aspect of this game is its music and world building. The game does a fantastic job of making it's characters and story feel real as well as conveying the existential and somber feeling of this dying world. GREAT GAME STORY!

Il try not to spoil to much but that pancake scene REALLY got to me and it honestly made that final decision go from "very difficult" to arguably the most difficult choice i had to make in any video game ever and il fully admit that my eyes absolutely broke the moment i had made up my mind

This is the first game that actually made me cry so bad, i still can't believe this game. The puzzles, characters, story. It's the best game i have ever experienced.
the storytelling is absolutely beautiful, i found myself deeply caring about this world and its inhabitants almost immediately, wanting to know every single thing thats happened here and whats going to happen next
the puzzles are incredibly clever and unique, toying with the fourth wall and your own computer in ways i never wouldve imagined
on top of that the art is gorgeous, the character designs are fun, the dialogue does an excellent job of making you feel exactly how youre meant to feel and hits you like a truck when it needs to
OneShot presented me with a doomed world that i couldnt possibly give up on and id strongly recommend you go into it as blind as possible

Such a cute game. The characters, art, and music are all so charming, and I loved getting to bond with our little (not-cat) friend, Niko. This game is a unique sort that you won't get anywhere else, and even when you think it's over, it's got so much more in store for you. The ending hits really hard, and then they pretty much give you a whole round two after that.
You, as the player, have a much bigger role to play than you think. You are a part of this story, and what you do is very important.
It's a masterpiece! The story, the characters, the locations, the music It's all perfect!
For a story about a boy traversing a world of darkness and cold, my only gripe with OneShot is the warmth. Too much love. There's no fear, no violence, no negative emotion of any kind beyond a gentle melancholy. Niko is not confronted, everyone wants to help him along -- and you, the player, do too. You only do so much for him, though. You don't save him. You don't protect him. You're never confronted with the consequences of what you've decided for him. You just gently nudge him along. You can only care so much for one that, in the end, needs so little from you.
This is something of a waste of the central conceit, and as any other game with a direct "player-guides-the-protagonist-as-God" concept will now feel derivative of it, I feel that it robs this idea from ever feeling truly original should it ever emerge in an improved form.
Nevertheless, it's a good experience and I'd recommend it.

Indescribably good (puzzle) game, for some puzzles you even have to find files on your own computer that provide you with information without which you can't progress in the game itself. Sometimes the game even changes your desktop background to tell you something. All in all, it's a really incredibly good game.

THIS GAME IS INSANEEEE this game got me so attached and moved that it sincerely changed my perspective in video games forever. Im several years late sure, but even now in 2025 it is such a great game with charismatic characters and intense fourth wall breaks lemme tell you for sure. I don't usually write reviews for games, but this one managed to erase my depression in order to give me more depression. I don't think I will recover from the solstice run. If you like games with a funky genderless main character person (not a cat!!), complete lack of 4th wall, puzzles that require messing around with actual files on your computer, and an emotionally devastating storyline, play this game. If not, play it anyway, it might change your mind. Please play it blind, it is An Experience. And remember...

Quite a good game Pretty short and a bit confusing at the beginning of the game but has a good story would recommend to purchase if the games on sale only took a few hours to 100%
A wonderful game, truly. It is heartbreaking, and it's potential for philosophical thought keeps me thinking, even way after playing the game. It is short, but i don't believe it is meant to be long, after all, the messiah cannot stay long. Definitely recommend.

i think the thing that makes this game hit so hard is that niko is written so well they feel real. and then they speak to you directly throughout the entire game making them feel even more real. they basically make you develop a parasocial relationship with this (not) cat and then make them go through terrible events and all you can do is watch
this is a game you need to play with no spoilers to get the best experience out of it. and you probably play this game for the story

It's amazing, everyone should play it. Important: when you get to the top of the tower and "finish" the game, it's not over yet, there is more to do. Look up a guide if you really need to.
This is genuinely the best game I've ever played. I love everything about it, from the art style, to the characters, to the completely different perspective of playing as the main character. This is the only game to ever make me cry at the ending, mainly because of how it approaches the idea of building your relationship with the world and Niko as a character (the way it does this is something rare in games now, which is a shame). 10/10 game in my eyes, would 110% recommend, and I'll definitely replay this again (multiple times) one day <3

I loved this game. I'm not huge for puzzle-type games, but this game hit different. It has an amazing story! It's a fairly short game, but well worth the price especially if you catch it on sale. The music in this game is some of my favorite from a game, I would definitely buy this game and could play it all over again blind if I could.

To be honest, this is my first time writing an actual review for a game, but I have to say, this game truly impressed me, and I can't fully describe how it made me feel, the world and the characters are so beautiful, I really got attached to Niko, and I wanted to save him...
I originally bought this game as a joke, without any real intention of playing it, I thought it was just something similar to Undertale. Oh I was wrong, I finally gave it a try and couldn't stop playing.When I finished the game, I felt so empty, staring at the choice... but after some time I discovered there was more.. the Solstice.
Finishing the Solstice route really changed my perspective on "The Entity", at first I thought it was something evil, but in reality It just wanted to protect Niko, and needed someone to help it...
This game almost made me cry, it's such a beautiful experience that everyone deserves to have.
I won't forget you, Niko. Goodbye
This is one of the best games I've experienced.
In short, why is it great, and what to expect from it:
Gameplay: It's a puzzle game that takes place in a half-open world, divided by several smaller locations. It has no combat, pretty much no dialogue variety and the game is very linear.
Story: This game heavily focuses on meta puzzles and story. I like it how the player is a part of the in-game world. It makes the experience more personal.
Main feature: Speaking of personal, as the game title implies, you only have one shot. This means that if you screw up somehow, this is going to be a permanent game over. This is an amazing part of this game that makes the life of your character so much more valuable. In some moments, I even was scared during the scripted scenes, because, well, what if it so happened that the devs weren't so generous and gave you a time limit? The only way to find out is to lose without an ability to go back.
Overall thoughts: The game isn't hard at all. It's not too challenging, but the puzzles are still satisfying to solve. The story is engaging, and is the main reason why you should buy this game. Basically, imagine Portal 2, but in the style of Undertale, with META elements that include the player as a separate character into the game. It's simply one of my most favourite games.
Oh, and yeah, just like with Hollow Knight, DON'T research the game until you finish it. You'll kill the whole thrill.
There's not much to say about this game about spoiling it.
I will try and keep it as spoiler free as possible.
It is akin to a point and click puzzle adventure without the point and click part, so if that isn't your thing then this game might not be for you. However if you even have the slightest interest in the game at all you should definitely play it. I got even more attached to the characters in this game than games like Undertale, which I like to think is really high praise.
Basically, if you're considering playing this game and as long as you don't hate puzzle adventures, please play the game, it's great. Oh and play in windowed mode, it's worth it.
This is an amazing game and if you haven't already i highly recommend playing it.
A few things to note though if you are on linux, unless you are really good at using linux and are willing to go through the trouble of making this game work properly buy the OneShot: World Machine Edition instead, while it will downgrade your immersion, it's usually better than either not being able to play the game at all or some parts of the game not working, i personally don't think it's worth the effort to spend the time to make this version of the game work on linux, but if you disagree feel free to do so if you know how to use linux well enough and are willing to go through the trouble.
OneShot is an deceptively simple game with an incredibly rich and complex story. I dare YOU, the reader, to play this game. It made me ball my eyes out.
As a learning game developer, this really opened my eyes to the amount of pure potential available when making a game. The super creative mechanics of this game aren't just how you play the story, they ARE the story, and I adore that.
I haven't had a game make me this emotional since I was six years old, and I bet it will be even longer before one does it again. OneShot is an amazing story of change, choice, and - importantly - permanence. Please play this game. While the backtracking and puzzles can sometimes be tedious, it's those little moments you spend with Neko that you'll cherish the most. Explore everywhere, try everything, GET NEKO PANCAKES. And most importantly, remember:

One Shot is a game that I feel everyone should play through at least once.
If at most to get the first ending.
It is a game that makes you interested in it and its characters and makes you feel for them.
albeit I can't say much more without spoiling.
What I can say is.
I never had a game that made me care more about a decision in a game or made me feel like the feeling was not forced.
(Unlike in most RPGs, where they have a very obviously sad scene where you're supposed to feel bad for the characters.)
It's not without its flaws, but what game is not? (One of my biggest complaints is achievements that are not just story-based, which steer people more towards certain decisions rather than just blindly going through the game, Although this is a minor gripe.)
Ultimately, this is a fantastic game that too many people overlook and should if they can experience it themselves.

This is by far my favorite game EVER. This game's story is so unbelievably good it surprises me how someone came up with this.
There are times that the game makes you laugh and some others that make you cry. Finding a game like this nowadays is almost impossible.
Don't even get me started in the ending, it is the best part of this game in my opinion. I'm not going to spoil anything if you have never played it but it is insanely emotional.
Niko is a great protagonist, Niko is just a child that was put into this dead world without it's will and is now forced to save it.
All of the characters are also amazingly written, each of them make their own part of the story which in conclusion, has a great finished product.
The mechanic of the game literally talking to you is so well thought that I am just impressed. The game makes you feel like you belong and are part of it which makes you relate to the characters/story even more!
I love this game with every inch of my heart, there are seriously no bad parts in this game. The only part that is arguably bad is that some puzzles are very unclear, but other than that, I recommend you playing this game more than ever!
Relatively short game (<10hrs for all achievements for me) with a fantastic story and really interesting gameplay. Would recommend for anyone who loves unique puzzle-solving games or unique lore.
It is a really good puzzle game with a wonderful theme
I don't think I've had this much playing a game in a long time. When I saw fun, I do mean genuine child-like level of fun where I'm immersed in the world and don't want to leave. Combining that with some really fun and actually unique puzzles that did leave me scratching my head for a hot minute made me so happy to play and sad when it ended. It's okay though because you can always come back and chat with Nico and the world again.
I cant describe with words how much I enjoyed this game, it really brought back what I found fun about gaming in the first place for me, just go play this game and it will be the best 9 hours of your life
I am not that great at puzzles and although in this game they are not that hard they are quite tricky.
You only have One shot, better make it count.
