Fun stylized platformer.

2D side scroller game that heavily reminds of classic games like Another World. It intentionally emulates the controls of those games and it took me a bit of time to get used to them, but once I did I thought they were pretty satisfactory in a way. The animations are really fluid and that helps too. The gameplay is a mix of platforming and combat sections. While the combat system is not that deep, these sections make room for some level of planning about what weapons to use, what enemies prioritize, how to use the space, etc. The difficulty is quite good, it's not an easy game but it's also not frustrating. There's also a lot of checkpoints so you don't lose too much progress when you die.
The visuals are very solid and, in spite of consisting basically of silhouettes and 4 colors, you can clearly see what's going on. Each area has its own unique atmosphere and aesthetic and there's some impressive and memorable sceneries.
There's very little text and dialogue but every level is detailed enough so you can infer what has happened there.
I recommend playing The Eternal Castle, but keep in mind that this type of game is not for everyone. You can beat it in about 3 or 4 hours and it has a very unique and nostalgic feel.

Juego de plataformas y acción de scroll lateral en 2D que recuerda mucho a clásicos como Another World. Los controles emulan intencionalmente a los de esos juegos y me costó un poco acostumbrarse a ellos, pero una vez lo hice me resultaron satisfactorios en cierta forma. Ayuda que las animaciones sean tan fluidas. El gameplay es una mezcla de plataformas y secciones de combate que, aun sin ser un sistema muy profundo, permiten cierta planificación en cuanto a qué armas usar, qué enemigos priorizar, cómo usar el espacio, etc. Para mí tiene un nivel de dificultad muy bueno, no es un juego fácil pero tampoco llega a ser frustrante por lo general. También tiene muchos puntos de guardado y no pierdes demasiado progreso al morir.
El estilo artístico está muy logrado y a pesar de ser básicamente siluetas y 4 colores consigue ser legible y que cada área tenga una atmósfera y estética distintas, además de crear algunos escenarios bastante bonitos y memorables.
El juego no tiene apenas texto pero las varias zonas que visitas a lo largo de la aventura están lo suficientemente caracterizadas como para que puedas imaginarte qué ha pasado.
Recomiendo The Eternal Castle aunque hay que tener en cuenta que este estilo de juego no es para todo el mundo. Es cortito (3 ó 4 horas) y tiene una atmósfera muy única y nostálgica.
Cool game. Reminds of Another World but less developed (and no companion). Recommend to everyone who likes retro ones.
Really cool cinematic platformer with a mystic and enigmatic tone. The art style and the animation are superb! It's really short but it has some extra modes when you finish it which are REALLY challenging, so if you really liked it and are into hardcore sh*t, you'll have plenty of fun. I just enjoyed the epic main story, which I finished in a bunch of hours, and I don't need more, it was INTENSE and SATISFYING.
Pretty sweet Another World type platformer. They did a really good job within the extreme limitations on graphics they set for themselves. Some remarkable imagery despite a palette of 4 colors and pre-DOS pixel resolution. You can burn through it in probably 2-3 hours. Has some frustrating combat sections but by and large feels good to play. It's also much more forgiving than those older heavy momentum games. Still, it would behoove you to learn and make use of the walk button your first playthrough.
The trailer was incredible. Too bad 90% of the game doesn't looks like the trailer, and ugly and bland. The game is from 5 years ago and there is still a LOT of bug. The controls aren't a tribute to 80/90s games, I've played to these old games and The Eternal Castle's controls are an atrocity making me feel my buttons works 50% of the time. Same with my keyboard, so my computer isn't the issue.
LORE is... Like, a few sentences here and there. That's it. Any teenager wouldn't have wrote something more interesting.
I like to be surprised and I trusted the trailer. BIG mistake. This is trash and a huge wasting of talented graphic designers. If the designers coded the game (which is probably the case since there are so many issues 5 years after release), hire some actual devs next time.
Too bad I bought this game a long time ago, I would have a refund very quickly but nah, I tried to play for 3h to this game and it was just painfully frustrating and disappointing.
It's funny because it's supposed to be a fake remaster. Well, it's actually a fake game since the game is the opposite of the trailer, bland, lazy, boring + bugs and awful laggy controls. Sometimes my character was standing still for 5 seconds for no reason. Controller, keyboard, no thing worked. This game is a mess and you cannot seriously sell this 5 years after release.
Developed for an audience of roughly 9 people, I seriously can't believe this game exists.
Between the crisp animations, great setpieces and the expected unforgiving difficulty typical for cinematic platformer, I sure am glad this game exists though.
God I have such fond memories of playing the original with my dad back in '87 two years before I was born.
They somehow managed to keep everything authentic while running on modern hardware. True game preservation like this needs to become the norm.
