While seeking life on a distant planet, an astronaut discovers an abandoned Russian town. He suspects his mission is a hoax until a mysterious young woman saves him from a strange and deadly phenomenon... Lifeless Planet is a third-person action-adventure that features an old-school sci-fi story and spectacular environments in the spirit of classic action-adventures.
After a hard landing on the planet, the astronaut discovers the planet that was reported to be rich with life is instead a barren wasteland. When he goes searching for his crew, he makes a more startling discovery: evidence that humans have already been to this planet years ago! When he comes upon a deserted Soviet-era Russian town, he struggles to make sense of his mission. Did his light-speed travel to the planet send him back in time? Or is this all some strange Cold War hoax?
Along the way, the astronaut meets a Russian woman, Aelita, who is somehow able to survive the hostile atmosphere of the planet. Through an unusual natural phenomenon, her skin causes the soil to glow green under her feet. The player must use these glowing tracks as a guide across the planet past treacherous and deadly threats. Is she leading him to safety... or an untimely death?
Lifeless Planet was inspired by Cold War era science fiction stories, posing questions about humankind's desire for space travel. What if you journeyed across the galaxy to another planet, only to find humans had already been there? What kind of person would sign up for a one-way mission, leaving behind planet Earth and everyone they've ever known and love... to go in search of an Earth-like planet?
Equipped with a limited-use jet-pack and a mobile robotic arm, the player must use wits and skill to solve puzzles, unravel the mystery, and survive the Lifeless Planet!

I just finished it and it was a beautiful experience. I don't remember how long it took me but I played some time offline, so don't take my play time as a reference. The game is a walking simulator with some platform sections marred by a not-so-precise control system and some easy puzzles. The story starts at a really high point, it sinks a little in the middle, and recovers slightly at the end, but it never reaches the eerie feeling it had at the beginning, which is the best of the game from my point of view.
The graphics are OK, but enough for the game. The control system is not precise enough for a platformer, so some sections of the game become more frustrating that they should. Music is appropriate, voice acting functional.
It's a game good enough for me, even at full price, if you're in it more for the story than for the gameplay.
Pretty good if you like being a character in an interactive story. I actually downloaded Moon and Planet at the same time but played Moon first. I'm glad I did because I would have hated it if I played Planet first. I like first person platformers and Moon has very little in the way of platforming... FAR less than Planet.
If there is a third installment in the Lifeless series, PLEASE get back to your roots and make the game more like Planet. More platforming, harder puzzles, fall damage (toggle maybe?) the occasional necessity of finding oxygen. Give the game more of a risk element where platforming tasks need to be close to perfect to accomplish. Timed challenges, hidden items/easter eggs and MORE ability upgrades (like the jetpack) would be great too. Look at the Supraland series for inspiration on that front.
Just finished this game, took me two tries, as I had placed it aside a couple of years back, and just picked it back up a couple of days ago. Really enjoyed most of the puzzles. Some mechanics were wonky, but for a decade old game, not bad at all. And for 10 bucks, its a great deal!

Walking/jumping simulator on a strange planet, with some puzzles to continue your journey. Nothing much to explore outside of the main story. Story is meh ok.
Works great on Linux. This is mostly a platformer game, but I liked the story, the music and simple graphics did not spoil the fun for me, nor did the platforming part.
I mainly enjoyed the mysterious atmosphere transported by the graphics and the small story bits here and there. The controls lack of precision, but the game is not hard. Riddles were fine for my taste, nothing blocking my way for too long. In total the game could have been a bit shorter even as the last levels felt like the Xen-levels in Half-Life. Not necessary. Anyway, a pleasant experience overall.
