The is the worst skateboarding sim I've ever played. The controls are garbage. It's missing some of the most common moves in the sport. To top all this off, the glitches and smoothness are terrible. Also, I've never played a game that makes my system crash so much. One crash almost ruined my computer. Somehow, I was able to save it. This is an insult and should not be allowed. Go to Session instead, hands down. Do not get this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well worth playing if you're a skate junkie. not really supported in any real way outside of mods, but the limited included maps at least offer quite a bit of things to skate. it's a shame they didn't put out more official maps or add more tricks as the skating itself feels really good once you get the hang of it.

Would love to recommend it but with the time and effort that the developer put into it I just can't. It was one of my favourite game for a very long time and it's a fun game to kill time. The potential was limitless. The dev got support from player, content creator and the fund to improve the game in everyway. But it's so frustrating to see all that support got thrown in the trash. Please dev for the love of god do something with the game already it's a pot of gold waiting to be found but feel like the dev is too blind too see it.

I only recommend this for actual skateboarders (or retired ones like me) who are quite happy just roaming around hitting up spots.
Its not an actual game more like a simulation so will wear thin very quick for most people.
In saying that I find the game play to be the best that has ever been, superior to EA Skate and Session. The fact that it was abandoned so early will bother me forever.

wheree tf is a stat menu? i stopped playing XL and started sessions a few years ago for this reason. you bums still havent added a menu yet? who do i have to mod you game to make it playable. jfc

wow. it's bad. While Session is far from perfect, SkaterXL feels like a roblox minigame.

Definately worth it if you are gonna mod it and mods are easy to install just watch a milky video. With mods the game is so fluid and it looks super steezy and there are millions of maps so you never have nothing to play.

It' still pretty buggy. And the controls often feel a bit off. Muggy or too delayed.

Fun game, when it works. Deleted it a year or so back because i got tired of the bugs but enjoyed the gameplay. Re Dl'd and now cant get any of my controllers to work beyond the d pad in game.

Update: came back after a while and decided to solve this one. ended up needing to unplug just about every peripheral except for the controller. Still requires a lot of tweaking with mods to be real fun but at least its playable again.

Tried to get into this but on recent days it just felt like a wasted potential of a good game but this is only my opinion

I've been playing this game since the alpha tests back in 2017, and I can confidently say that it can be an incredible experience if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and dive into the world of mods. The modding community essentially carried this game on its back, and honestly, it deserves more credit than the actual dev team.

Because, let’s be real, since the game’s official release in 2020, the developers have done the absolute bare minimum. Meaningful updates? Practically nonexistent. Improvements to core mechanics or new features? Don’t hold your breath. And for the love of everything, they still won’t add a stats menu, a basic feature players have been begging for. So if you’re hoping for a well-rounded, fully realized vanilla experience, prepare to be disappointed. The base game is about as exciting as a blank spreadsheet.

That said, the modding community is still kicking and they’re doing amazing work. It's a passionate and relatively active group that is constantly creating fresh content and fixing the things the devs won't touch. If you're willing to mod the game, there's a surprisingly deep and enjoyable experience waiting for you with a ton of variety and replay value.

So here’s the bottom line. I do think the game is worth playing, but only if you’re ready to mod the hell out of it. If you’re coming in expecting a complete and satisfying experience straight out of the box, I totally get why you'd bounce off it. Honestly, I wouldn't blame you.

So, I grabbed Skater XL on Steam, and honestly, I'm pretty hooked. The thing that instantly grabbed me was the physics. They're just dope. The way the board flips and rotates feels incredibly natural. It's not just about button mashing; you actually feel like you're controlling the board with your body.

The controls themselves are a big win. They make sense! Each stick controls a foot, which means you have a direct connection to what's happening. It takes a little getting used to, but once it clicks, it's pure satisfaction.

Modding community? Straight up Amazing. They've taken this game to a whole new level. New maps, gear, and even gameplay tweaks. It's like having an endless supply of fresh content. Plus, the game looks clean. The environments are well-designed, and everything feels polished.

Overall, I'm loving it. If you're into skating games, Skater XL is definitely worth checking out.

Love this game but it does fuckin suck

Yeah it's pretty good! Not quite the skate 3 killer as there are no missions so this very much a sandbox game of sorts. It's been slow to progress with new updates being few and far between with nothing massive being added to the game from what I can tell. But in all honesty, the community made maps (YAKY is a god) are excellent.
You can mod the shit out of this as well really quite easily and it's worth probably about 15 quid so wait till it's on sale. It's asking a lot of money for what it is.

Now for the developer: Please don't just leave it in this state. You have a good thing going here. But the community obviously wants more. Figure out a scoring system and put us head to head online in some old school style trick attack or THPS style graffiti challenges. Or ya know... pull your own game concepts together. We've been waiting probably years at this points for something other than mindless skateboarding.

Honestly Not bad, It sucks you cant get off board like in skate, but its alot more realistic and good amount of players.

This game is sick but the real problem is this : The developers are a bit lazy and the best way to play the game is downloading a lot of mods. It's weird that you have to download an entire mod to just modify the game physics to make everything play better. Map wise its like mandatory to download mods or you won't have any really, same with cosmetics.

Grinding and flip tricks are pretty easy to do. transistion/bowls/vert skating is a bit harder imo.

Game is really cool, I just wish by now they would have incorporated all the popular mods into their base game.

Great game, played it for hundreds of hours. the revolutionary analog control system felt so natural, left stick left and right right leg..as close as it gets to real life tricks converted into a gampad. skate 3 was already a big change from the square/circle/x/triangle/ set up like in thps and thtas coming from a thps veteran.
I with the mods would be a little more user friendly, or at least the most important ones, like pop height, manual catch (idk why ppl even play this game without a manual catch :P) and few others,. i recently installed the game but was overwhelmed with the amount of different little custom menus to tweak the game to just how you like it which is good thing overall but takes some research and relearning few things after a few years break,
Does ps5 verions also get same mods as on pc or just maps are considered mods on consoles?

Standouts:
- Each analog stick on the controllers controls the feet

Pro's:
- skating feels both realistic and arcade-y (mix of Session and Skate)

cons:
- zero story/challenges/depth
- Each "update" is a community made map, with zero addition to any QOL, new game modes, in game stats, etc.
- Feels like the dev's post these 'updates' blissfully unaware of all the negative feedback in their comments.
- $45cad for this is outrageous for what there is to offer

I have two different gamepads, both of which I tried with numerous 'fixes' from around the internet. From what I can gather, this has been a problem for FIVE YEARS. This game should be removed from the store, it's just straight up broken.
