You spawn objects and weld them together to create your own contraptions - whether that's a car, a rocket, a catapult or something that doesn't have a name yet - that's up to you. You can do it offline, or join the thousands of players who play online each day.
If you're not too great at construction - don't worry! You can place a variety of characters in silly positions. But if you want to do more, we have the means.
Beyond the Sandbox
The Garry's Mod community is a tremendous source of content and has added hundreds of unique modes to the game. In Trouble In Terrorist Town, you can be a detective solving an online murder as criminals attempt to cover up their homicides. Be a ball, a plant, a chair, or anything else in Prop Hunt's elaborate, shape-shifting game of Hide & Seek. Elevator: Source is gaming's first elevator thrill ride, delivering players to airlocks and kitten dance parties.
We have one of the most vibrant Steam Community Workshops, with over 300'000 models, maps, and contraptions to download. It has everything from new tools to improve your builds, to guns that fire rainbow-tinged nuclear blasts from space. Take as much or as little as you need: it’s all free.

>sell most of the firearms by 70% what they're worth, make it rain

>kill them, afterwards get banned for RDM for a few days (i have only killed one child at this rate)
>join back after a few days, contiune your dealership
>the fetus has came back to attack me
>(lucky i have an assault rifle and he only has an glock)
>get banned again for RDM (i never RDM'd i just defended my store like a real american)
i love garry's mod, as it has fueled my childhood with from range to realism, fun, unrendered shit to literally just chaotic shit, i love it, i recommend this game to anybody that wants to try out a new thing

Most servers nowadays are P2W slop. It's always been like this but I genuinely can't find any DarkRP or HL2RP servers that don't have buyable perks/roles that you can just pay $8 for.

I love this game, it's fun, has infinite things to do in it, and is (of course) a sandbox game! Perfect for playing alone, and with friends! Whether it's dropping nukes on your friends, (can only be done by getting an addon) Participating in goofy roleplays, having a war against 500 combine solders, etc. Garry's Mod manages to provide exactly what you need to do so!

As someone with nearly 7k hours - Gmod used to be goated, now it's just a bunch of 12 year olds screaming skibi with the exception of a very very small amount of community, even those communities have some really bad brain rot. But hey, I made it guys. I went from messing around with yall on PERP, PGRP, Santos, etc, to FiveM, then to one of the biggest RP communities of them all. Ty yall <3 Those who introduced me to RP on Garry's Mod, Thank you.

As a person, who played this game for 7k hours. It's the most OG game from Valve(besides Half Life series). Many workshop stuff and game modes. With this game you can create anything you want from Dark RP(City RP) to just play around in sandbox with cool and funny workshop mods. It always were fun of RolePlay, even know it did started to decline in 2020, you still will be able to play some serious servers, which care about gameplay and find the most nice people in the game(well of course also some bad people :) ). This game unite actual gamers to do some creative stuff and I really recommend it even in 2024 despite this game is basically 20 years old. Valve should be proud to have this game in the market as many years pass by, but it's still one of the most popular Steam game. It should have some kinda reward, deserve it big time

This sandbox game is very fun in my opinion, I love playing around with the ragdolls (don't question please) and everything else. I also like making scenes from other games or movies that I have played/watched or sometimes I make my own scenes. In Gmod (short for Garry's Mod) you can download NPCs, ragdolls, items, props, and playermodels from the workshop. This is why I like Gmod. Oh, and it's only ten dollars.

(But in all honesty, I genuinely would highly recommend this to anybody who hasn't given it a go to try out. This game/mod is rooted deep in internet history and I'd even consider it a fundamental game to have in your steam library, in the same nature as HL:2, CS, Portal 1 & 2, etc). This game continues to innovate and stands the test of time (though the same can't be said for DarkRP servers) )

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of waking up, launching the game, and immediately discovering that half your mods are now completely broken because of some update that no one asked for. It’s like a beautiful sunrise, if the sunrise were a slap to the face.
In this utopia of user-created content, we wander the barren landscape of abandoned mods like forlorn nomads, desperately clinging to the hope that—just maybe—some forgotten modder will descend from the heavens to patch that one line of code that makes everything work again. Spoiler alert: It’s not happening. They're not coming back. The great modders have ascended to their higher calling—probably making money in the real world, leaving us here to weep over broken content and incomplete files. RIP, sweet mods. You were too pure for this world.
And to all the brave souls considering entering this kingdom of digital despair: Please, for the love of whatever's left of your sanity—don’t. Don’t you dare play this game. Every new player is a harbinger of doom, bringing with them updates that will crush the few remaining mods we have left. You want to be a hero? Then stay away. Don’t download Garry’s Mod. Let it live in its broken, unfinished glory. Let it die peacefully without the constant interruption of progress.
Because, let’s face it: every update is a reminder that the modding community has long since moved on. Garry's Mod has to be one of the best sandbox games on Steam. It is a Source game, and uses mostly Half-Life 2 and has over a one million and eight hundred mods. Being able to do anything in an open-world game is amazing. You can use a soda can as a thruster on the back of a sofa with 300 headcrabs on it. By anything, I am not even joking. Create anything you can think of. You can set up a three-way battle between the Combine, Resistance and zombies. Take my word. ANYTHING. The game also has Multiplayer and you can play other Source games on it.
