Pay close attention.
Your memory seems to have become a cold and darkened blur;
you never know the vital things you might be walking past.
We at Cole and Jordan Studios have been developing The Horologist's Legacy
for years in an attempt to create the most intriguing possible experience;
prototypes existed as early as 2012 when we were only in the 8th Grade.
Now at 20 years old, we are prepared to release our game into the world.
Nearly all levels have years of testing and design, and have been completely
scrapped and rebuilt from the ground up at least once.
It's a similar story for the plot, (no pun intended) which has been scrapped,
rewritten, and honed to provide an extremely mysterious and
other-worldly undertone to the entire experience.

I'm usually not a fan of these types of games, but figured I'd take a chance with this one. I'm glad I did. Has some really interesting twists and turns and is very well made for an indie game. Definitely give it a try!
Environmental symbolism, surrealism and pseudoscience but weak in storytelling to make it more coherent to the audience. It has good graphics for another "Made In Unity" game as well as good music. The game play is largely play a record, find a key, push a button, etc. to trigger the next event. There are other events where you will need to find the right piano to play a tune (automatically play it so no challenge) or have to smash something. That's pretty much the mechanics of it. Do not expect too much in the horror aspect of the game. There is some but not too much. The complete game took me just over 3 hours to play and that's an asking price of 20 dollars. By the end of the game I wasn't blown away by the ending. They even repeated a lot of the dialogue at the end hoping to add clarity to the experience. I just wanted it to be over and done with. Your mileage may vary on this game. I would like to see another game by Cole and Jordan Studios as this was their first retail product and I'm sure they have learned from this experience so I am curious to see more in hopes it can be crafted to tell a better tale.
The Horologist's legacy is a game I have been following before it's release through Cole and Jordan's Twitch streams where they streamed the making of it. I made friends with them, I bought the game at full price when it was released, and I was very pleased with how the game turned out. There were parts of it that were genuinely impressive and that caught me off-guard despite literally watching it being made.
I have been told by one of the devs that they want a review that is genuine and unbiased so I will deliver just that.
This game was shorter than expected indicative of my playtime. Some steam customers I know have a set rule on if a game is worth the money, if the price (in dollars) is 1:1 with the game length in hours or better then it is worth it. I personally don't agree with that rule because I wouldn't be willing to pay a dollar every hour I'm playing a game and if i were to value hours in dollars the price would very based on the enjoyment of each separate hour, but the ratio this game has can be a turnoff for people who use this rule. That being said, I don't think the price point Is that big of a problem. In my opinion, the devs underpriced the game relative to how much work they put into the project but understandably a vast majority of consumers won't pay any more than 20$ for a 5~ hour game.
Enough about the price, how about the game?
The graphics are very very good. No complaints here. It's clear the devs put extra care in every environment. For a small team of two people they did an excellent job.
The same goes for the score and the sound design, good stuff.
(minor spoilers ahead.)
The gameplay is akin to many other indie horror games. For example in the first room, you are in a house, you try to go in a door, the door is locked, you look around some more, find a key, open door, now you can access more of the house. Repeat that a few times with some expedition and that is the first level. To be fair, it's not really advertised as a puzzle/horror game (EDIT: nevermind it actually is), but it would be nice if these sections had a little more to it. There is another game mechanic that makes it stand out just a bit more from other indie horror games. There are several grandfather clocks around the house (and the entire game), if you look directly at them they make your screen freak out, (and you as well if you don't see it coming :) ) It isn't much, but it helps give the game some more identity and arouses some mystery during it's more monotonous sections.
The monsters/enemies (that I remember) are not like traditional generic indie horror enemies. One of them follows your exact path and you have to use that to your advantage. Another you have to hide in buildings because it is too big to fit, etc. It's a nice change of pace from the generic scary zombie girl thing and other cliches.
I have only played through the game once, and I really couldn't tell you what the story is about. If looked into more it could probably be made sense of, but I'm not really the type of person.
It is clear this game is made with passion and is not half-baked at all. I think any game dev would make a few oopsies here and there after six whole years of work, rewrites, more work, and dealing with Unity's shenanigans. And I can't wait for Cole and Jordan's future projects after they finally regain their sanity. If you have a few bucks(?) to spare (it's actually on sale at the time of me writing this) and you want to learn the definition of the word horology then The Horologist's legacy is right for you.
10 out of 10. Awesome game-play, story line and graphics. Beware of the Clocks!
This was my first true horror game and it did not disappoint. Excellent atomosphere throughout the game with a story to keep you interested all the way until the end. Great graphics and great voice acting for these guys' first commercial game. Definitely would recommend!
The Horologist's Legacy is unlike any story I've ever experienced while playing a game. The different scenarios are beautifully put together, the game has a lot more to it than the trailer puts out. There is lots of adventuring, with nice touches of problem-solving that at times can be a little challenging, but so rewarding when you figure them out, even if it takes a while to. This game is built for all sorts of audiences, even speed-runners. It is mysterious, intriguing with a lot to think about even after you leave the game. I definitely recommend The Horologist's Legacy for it's story-telling adventure, foreshadowing and overall spine-tingling excitment. At points in the game, I have literally SHRIEKED and that's how you know it's an excellent horror indie game. 10/10 go tell your friends
My opinion of Horologist's Legacy is a solid one. The game is a practical masterpiece to me. On every playthrough the overlying story seeks deeper and deeper into my brain until im able to track the symbolism in every sight I see.
Oh and the game looks beautiful on Ultra and if you set your contrast to 25-35 when you're outside and the sun is out.
