About the Game
You take another drink as the canvas looms in front of you. A light flickers dimly in the corner. You’ve created countless pieces of art, but never anything like…this. Why haven’t you done this before? It seems so obvious in retrospect. Your friends, critics, business partners—soon, they’ll all see. But something’s still missing…You look up, startled. That melody… Was that a piano? It sounded just like her… But, no—that would be impossible. She’s gone. They’re all gone.
Have to focus. How long has it taken to get to this point? Too long, but it doesn’t matter. There will be no more distractions. It’s almost finished. You can feel it. Your creation. Your Magnum Opus.
Dare you help paint a true Masterpiece of Fear? Layers of Fear is a first-person psychedelic horror game with a heavy focus on story and exploration. Delve deep into the mind of an insane painter and discover the secret of his madness, as you walk through a vast and constantly changing Victorian-era mansion. Uncover the visions, fears and horrors that entwine the painter and finish the masterpiece he has strived so long to create.
Game Features:
• Psychedelic horror – A sense of insanity means each turn of the camera may completely change the look of your surroundings.
• Victorian setting – Explore a game world inspired by masterpiece paintings, architecture and décor from the 19th century.
• Original and classic art – Numerous pieces of original art and music flesh out the story and environment.
• Story-focused exploration – Only through exploring the environment can you uncover the details of the painter’s dark and tragic past.

Desenhei a mulher pelada e gostei muito
fun
Too scary for my nephew
GREAT,no need to say much.
game is terrible. buns. nothing sandwich. only tolerable when you pretend you're playing as the incredible hulk
i loved the graphics and the lil jumpscares
couldnt stop playing it and played it in one sitting
The game is a 8/10 i would say.
Visuals are cool.
Story is cool, although you have to really pay attention but i guess it's not hard to understand that...SPOILER_STARTthe protagonist suffers from schizophrenia, atleast that's my take on it. And boy oh boy i think they actually conveyed it extremely well of how it might be.SPOILER_END...
The controls are fine i think.
Now keep in mind this is a psychological horror game. You will not get any difficult puzzles here. It's really about the protagonists "story" that they want to display here and make you catch a glimpse of what it might feel like to be the protagonist. Most of the time you get the solutions thrown at your face, but there is one part in the game where i felt a bit confused. That's also where my controls went a bit funky. Not sure why. SPOILER_STARTNow i don't fully know what the game is called in english but it looks like chess, however it is only using flat circles as the stones. So maybe it's called "checkers" or so. Anyway, when there is that checkers board in the center of the room you will have to collect pieces of the boardgame which took me a bit to understand. And once you finished it you had to walk back to the table on which the boardgame was to progress. That's where i had the problems with a rotating camera and the sound not being played on both ears in stereo-fashion.SPOILER_END
One improvement i suggest is making the player more aware of where to look. They used the enforced-camera-look but when some vital things were happening i scurried too fast through the door or looked somewhere else and completely missed the action.
Now one thing i really didn't like is the sound design. It's not the sound itself but for some reason when i played this with my headset i could either hear directional sounds on the left or the right ear. Meaning, if i was in front of a door, or a drawer i would have to look a bit offset at it to get the sound played. And if i looked straight onto anything that has directional sound i would not get the sound at all. For example a piano, when it played an i looked straight at it, i couldn't hear it. If i turned the camera a bit to the left or right i was able to hear it but just on one ear. I suppose that's on unity. Or maybe my headset. Who knows.
And another bug was that my camera just started rotating for no reason and i was unable to stop it. Maybe that was also on my side, but that can happen i guess.
Apart from that i would say a solid game. But in my honest opinion i wouldn't have bought it for 20€. Maybe 10€. It was on sale when i bought it for 1,99€ and to be honest a game like this for 2€ is really awesome. More than you can ask for. For 20€ i would say, polish a few things. Especially the sound design. And maybe guiding the players camera more in rather vital moments.
Highly reccomend. Very well made. Graphics are top notch. Puzzles are not too easy but no hard. Not boring at all.
go play outlast instead of this crazy game ):
spinning and feeling ill: the video game
I played this whole game in one sitting and I have some thoughts.
-The art design was 10/10. Beautiful game.
-The plot was middling at best. "Schizophrenia/One Spouse Is Mentally Ill" is just too heavy of a trope used in horror games. I'd give it a 4/10.
-It just isn't scary. It relied too heavily on jump scares and became predictable very quickly. I'd give the scare factor a 1/10. BUT if creepy dolls scare you, this one may be a 10/10 for you.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend this game to friends to play.
But i really can tell that a lot of effort went in to the design of the game and I want to give the devs credit for that.
Freaky wife turned me on a lil bit. 10/10
I loved every moment of this. I have only done one play through and will 100% this game. The scares are well thought out and the atmosphere is great. Very immersive 10/10
nobody will read my review, so i'll just say i'm addicted to femboy
Jerma baby clip unironically took me out of the immersion and made me realize that nothing can happen to you in this game.

The game is creative but somewhat dull.
wow this game was so good everyone should buy it 100x. the way the rooms change when you look around is so cool. it was so scary and i had to keep tabbing out but it was so so good and the plot is so unique and interesting and captivating and cool
that fear sure had layers
I recently played Layers of Fear, and my experience was a mixed bag. While not terrible, I found it mostly dull, and what should have been a quick 4-hour playthrough stretched over several days.
The story, meant to be the game's main hook, didn't quite resonate with me. It felt underwhelming overall, though I have to admit the plot twist—especially near the ending—was well-executed and added some intrigue.
On the positive side, the puzzles were decent and kept me engaged at times. The walking mechanics, visuals, and sound effects were well-done, contributing to a solid atmosphere. However, the horror elements fell short. The jump scares weren’t particularly effective; while some moments were genuinely creepy, they lacked the true scare factor I was hoping for.
In the end, Layers of Fear wasn’t quite my cup of tea, but it wasn’t a complete miss either. My overall experience? Just okay.
this game is so dark to a point where its not even scary its just annoying
Excellent plot, creepy in places, overall I was pleased with the game, I’ll definitely replay it for other endings, the game looks good, the plot is revealed as you progress through the game, although in some places it’s not clear why this is so, but maybe I missed something, and it will be revealed as you go through the other endings, great!
because
I've spend way too much time wandering around checking every little corner of the painter's mansion 'cause the game's ambience and design in details are just perfect. It'll port you in a beautiful place between unwarranted paranoia and justified fear. Layers of Fear isn't about spamming jumpscares. It's more kinda like..you'll turn around and some things in the room suddenly look different or changed places, portrait's eyes will follow your steps through corridors and some well placed noises will just scare the hell outta you.
So, the first "chapters" will be a really relaxing and calming experience to you, but as soon as the story moves forward, you'll simply just get intensely paranoid and extreme cautious of every move you'll make. So keep on playing and don't quit too soon 'cause the game seems "boring" to you at first. -It'll hit you twice later. (:

More like LAMErs of Fear hjaha
Not a difficult or mechanically complex game. It's more of an experience. Like an interactive haunted house.
,
this is the greatest paint layering of all time
Very derivative of P.T. I know that's not a new revelation regarding this game or anything, but I just felt like restating the obvious. Was cool to see a couple of Francisco Goya pieces show up, I must admit.
Go through an ever changing house and make a painting but spooky
Layers of Fear is a triumph of a game. It is beautifully designed and takes you on a deep emotional journey, which is not simply just about waiting for the next jump scare, it is far more complex.
The three possible endings leave the game open to a great deal of replayability, and provide a great deal more emotional depth, with the real challenge being left open for players being brave enough to try to figure the game out without walkthroughs.
The soundtrack is darkly atmospheric and the game sound design in general is delicately tailored to enhance the insanity of the experience.
It's hardly a surprise that this game has gone on to have so many sequels because the story is so captivating and so well told.
A modern classic! Bloober gets a lot of hate for some weird reason. Great game and can't wait till Silent Hill 2 is out!
Let me first state that I really appreciate the effort of the development team, the studio. I feel like this is is a very interesting project that is very good for a specific audience that like walking simulators and the horror genre, to which I normally consider myself.
However this is I highly subjective opinion. I am a huge fan of games like Amnesia, Dear Esther. I have zero problems with slow paced games. But Layers of Fear just doesn't reach the same heights like the ones mentioned. It feels like it wants be up there, do something different yet recognisable but yet doesn't reach it due to the storyline doesn't feel engaging enough, nor do the puzzles feel really entertaining. Next to that I just felt like I was dragging myself towards an ending that didn't feel rewarding at all.
The horror effects felt really cheesy, very predictable jump scares, and the jump scares are the only thing that makes this definable as a horror game. There is also a kind of glitchy effect that happens now and then, kind of like a VHS color shift effect that feels out of its place in such a painterly world. The sound design and voice acting also isn't very great, it feels very empty. Also the gameplay felt like I was walking down corridors and if I felt stuck, I just had to turn around and that was the solution. Other triggers are instigated by looking in a certain direction. After a while I just got bored by doing it over and over. And after a certain while the story doesn't give you anything more. You already understand what is happening halfway if you take your time to read the letters. Because of this, the game felt like such a drag.
On a positive note: There are a few moments where this game really shines, without spoiling anything: there is f.e. a corridor where you have to navigate and puppets run through the halls slamming themselves against bookccases. And small moments like these are very interesting in itself.
