This has to be the lamest game I've played in recent memory. I only played for 15 minutes and had to stop. Partial controller support, and I say partial because what control was there was up on right analog stick for accelerator...(huh?) keyboard controls are laughable, no camera rotation to even see what you're doing.....I've never requested a refund as fast as I did this, and I got it on sale for $3.99.....if that says anything. DO NOT BUY. I wouldn't play this if it was free. I can play a FAR BETTER offroad game on my phone......4x4 mania, and it's FREEE.
Ultra Off-Road 2019: Alaska
Positives:
+ The idea is good
+ Some of the gameplay is tolerable
+ Ok sized maps with two different landscapes
+ You can "cheat" the game by driving on top of some of the mountains
(takes way shorter to finish)
+ Save game function (thank God!)
Negatives:
- Not a realistic simulator at all, more like an arcade but in the wrong way
- Full of bugs
- Physics issues
- You get stuck everywhere
- Really frustrating to play
- Why should you pick up pizza? Makes absolutely no sense
- Sometimes feels like the car is controlling itself
- The car damage system is bugged and way off
- A lot of mick-mack thats not needed
- Much worse graphics than the trailer
- Bad and annoying sounds
- No free camera view
- Short (over in about an hour)
- Early access at best
Well I have to say this was a huge disappointment.
I thought this would be a good simulator,
but unfortunately what I got was an unfinished parody of a offroad game.
Total Score: 3/10
This game is a broken mess with all sorts of issues, I am convinced nobody at icetorch played it before launch
I love MudRunner and this looked a bit like something that could scratch that itch. Played through all the levels in about an hour so the price tag seems very steep even if just taking this into consideration. But the game is also broken and is not ready for release. It would fit better in Early Access because that is the state of the game.
Starting the tutorial and getting stuck because the game does not tell you what button to shift up with (just to gas) pretty much sums up how unfinished the game is. Also the physics will flip out sometimes and repairing your car sometimes results in the wheels going horizontal etc etc. I don't think blaming the testers is really honest in this case, anyone will spot these flaws from minutes of playing.
The game also lacks direction and would need some more goals and better level design. It honestly feels more like a prototype environment to test out the car mechanics.
I think the game could be fun if it was in longer development and more polished and refined. I wish the developers luck on the next game and that they take the feedback as a learning experience.
No usable wheel support. After a promising initial contact with the developer, he stopped responding to users in the forum.
Goofy games with the word "Simulator" at the end usually have a screenshot of something ridiculous on their page to let you know it's more of a parody of the concept its simulating. Simulators have no floating pizzas and random encounter fuel canisters or drivers with the metabolism of a leopard. They might be adding more stuff to this piece of software to make it into a "Game", but the development focus has to make a major change for me to differentiate this from the other Goofy Parody Simulators.
This software contains:
No Force Feedback or convenient control/gameplay configuration
No Focus on first person with adjustable FOV
Almost no deformable terrain
Very rough inaccurately wobbling, inertialess assumptions of velocity is good enough for a Game not a Simulator
I actually refunded this one in feb. Gave it another shot after 10th update. It sucked at release, but now it is actually good. Big thumbs up to the devs. Game developers who actually follow their words with actions and don't abandon their game after release - now that's a rare sight nowadays. Keep it up.
Good game. Specially when you consider that only two people made it. The maps being hand made was no joke - they are really awesome. Cars are surprisingly detailed and realistic and physics sure puts out a challenge in later tracks. So far I am playing for over 2h and I am having lots fun.
Kudos to the developers. This game's reviews and score is a perfect example how broken Steam's reviews/score system is. It doesn't deserve such a low score.
IMPORTANT EDIT: I updated the game and went for another round, and it's a much better experience this time around. I could actually slot the vehicle between two trees with barely enough room to fit. significantly less frustrating! I still believe this game to be in its early access stages, but the driving is mostly realistic if you drive like a 4x4 and not a bouncing maniac. I find that I'm applying lines that I do on the trails irl in the game and making similar decisions. I appreciate the quick response from the developer and the quick and accurate solution. There's still some issues with collision physics to be worked out, but overall it's a decent game.
ORIGINAL POST: I'm an avid overlander irl. I love the idea of this game, but its seriously messed up. The vehicles at this point take damage. most of the time it's not a problem, you collect a tool kit and repair yourself as you go. Well, I made it to the second to last stage and was enjoying myself when the trees has some truly screwed up hit boxes that are 5x the size of the tree. I could be 4 feet away from the tree and "hit" it and get stuck on it. I couldn't get 10 feet into the stage it was so messed up. I enjoy the idea of this game, but this game is a full release game right now, not an early access and it should still be in its alpha stage.
"Ultimate Offroad Experience" is not found here and for the price its an epic flop you can get spintires original for about $15 or under and its way friendlier on fps. too
this game had some great promise but failed on delivery
if you want the real "Ultimate Offroad Experience" save yourself some bucks and have more fun and just get spintires
I've never felt compelled to write a negative review until now.
This game feels like it should be free to play on a mobile platform. Perhaps I expected too much, having played Spintires, but I was sorely disappointed with the lack of free-roaming and seemingly pointless game mechanics - having to feed your driver a short distance into a very restricted trail being the most obvious.
The first refund I have requested on Steam.
I played for like 4h straight. I can see a potential, but as for now it is much more like arcade. I like pizza but usually it's hard to find one in wilderness ;) What should change: open world should be open, better destructions (also for trees plz ;).
Really nice cars, great landscape, just work on it more. devs plz. So positive .... conditionally.
Not initially as advertised on date of review. Definitely a work in progress. Graphics aren't bad but zero realism at all. Controls are clunky and can't be remapped. Why must one chase floating pizzas, fuel tanks and toolboxes? Similar concept to mobile games. There are better alternatives.
Waited for this to be released, man, I wish I hadn't. It isn't a Simulator, it's an arcade power-up based driving game. It isn't open world, you are pretty restricted on where you can go. The soundscape is horrible. It doesn't even look like the videos and photos on the store page. Seriously, unless this game is remade from the ground up, it will never live up to it's title. Read a few other reviews, and then go get Spintires, because that's the game you are inevitably looking for. I've never bothered to request a refund for a game up until I bought this.
It is not open world, its a 3d phone app game where you race to next gas can with a fuel consumption rate faster that 10 top fuel dragsters... and for some reason you must consume floating forest pizzas at a faster rate than your rig consumes fuel. Stay on the path or your truck doesnt move, no driving over rocks, through trees or making your own trail. Controls are not xbox style controller friendly. Needs to be either an open world sim game or arcade but not try to be both. Needs some big changes but i will hold on the the game and give it another shot at a later time if it gets some changes.
ok, i do regret getting this game.. its the nothing like the title would say it is. trucks look cool but do not feel like real trucks at all the sound is not so good at all either. it took me literaly 2 mins to judge this game. i tried to give it a chance but geez.. we all wanted a sim off road that we thought might compete or take over mudrunner.. well no matter what you do that isnt going to happen and that whats pisses me off the most. I usaully wont buy a game if there isnt a good footage of the game play is this is why..,, the map looks good but there isnt any digging into the ground. no mud. hitting a rock like a wall in places u should be able to crawl up easily... option. well there isnt any. maybe that because u just released it idk.. cant use my controller for some reason,,, camera is only rear of truck unless i missed something that moves it... then the dang pizzas and all that stuff just turned me off, there isnt anything simulation about this game.. theres no truck mod options, theres no gearing when driving.. i was actaully excited about this game too, kept checking on it.... its a damn shame i fell for the false advertisement.. you guys wont make it period if you dont change that title to arcade...
I didn't see anything on the steam page about updates in upcoming patches like the developer talked about in others reviews. I guess he assumes everyone is going to read everything about his game from the forums and understand its a work in progress. A ridiculous thought and shows a disconnect from the gaming community as a whole. Also the developer seems to be a little on the unprofessional side with his comments to reviewers. He seems insecure and can't help himself from reviewing the reviewer. Just another reason not to buy a game produced by this guy. As far as the game itself goes it is rough and needs lots of improvement. I'm not going to go into them cause other reviews already have.
Most annoying part of the game right now is the sound of the engines.
Looks like they're updating, but still can't recommend till it checks basic simulator boxes or changes the name to arcade. We'll see the direction they take.
This is a Simulator? lol please........
Cant believe i waited all that time for this garbage , THANK GOD there is a Refund option! Ill stick with Mudrunner Thank You.
(UPDATE) they did improve the steering wheel input which is nice still seems a bit off like not much to do or really point maybe adding a first person view would help a lot i believe i do enjoy the mud look an damage you can cause its got lots of potential but still as of now doesnt seem much of a full game i know its still new but with some good updates there is hope for it
well i dont play on keyboard but when i see a "Simulator" game id imagine it to feel like a simulation. absolutely no way to change any controls it even says in loading screen change gear mode to manual in settings this game is so broken on many so many levels unplayable with a wheel very Disappointing maybe playable on keyboard i didnt try but if your gonna use a wheel do not bother to buy this game unless they update this
