over the last couple of days that i have played american truck simulator, its been a amazing expirens with the map been massive an all states are different. I really like how you could start your on company an hire a bunch of drivers to do work for you . an you can use your own stuff to do job. HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING
Good game! Great winterland map!
Over all, Great game! Evrything is very detailed (other than some AI cars)
Very fun game to play and fun to play with friends.
Once you start American Truck Simulator, there's no going back—literally, I haven’t seen grass in so long I forgot what it feels like. This game is dangerously addictive. One minute you’re hauling logs through Oregon, and the next, it’s 3 AM, and you’re debating whether to splurge on a fancier truck just to look cool delivering potatoes. The peaceful drives, realistic scenery, and oddly satisfying turn signals have me hooked. I love this game, but someone, please remind me what fresh air smells like. 10/10, would trade my social life for another delivery!
Might be dated, but they keep updating it at least. Great game when you play it via TruckersMP.
so far so good. definitely a little ruff around the edges tho. when playing on the go with basic steam deck configuration.
very fun game when your bored, what I like doing is get like 3 guys or something to play with you and just drive and talk you can get pretty deep with yalls conversation but enjoy
the amount of detail is just perfect in this game with the realistic driving and also can test your skills due to the random things that can happen like road blocks and such. 10/10 in my book.
Rating - 8/10
American Truck Simulator is one of those games that perfectly embodies the "it's more fun than it has any right to be" sentiment. At its core, it’s a game about hauling cargo from point A to point B. Yet, there's something uniquely satisfying about cruising along beautifully recreated highways, managing your virtual trucking business, and getting lost in the rhythm of the open road.
Pros:
- Authentic Simulation: SCS Software has nailed the feel of being behind the wheel of a big rig. From the weight of the trucks to the attention to detail in road layouts and landmarks, American Truck Simulator immerses you in the experience.
- Oddly Addictive Gameplay: Whether you're customizing your fleet or planning routes to maximize efficiency, the gameplay loop keeps you engaged for hours at a time. It’s hard to put down once you start.
- Expansive Map: With frequent DLC expansions, the map has grown into a massive playground for trucking enthusiasts. Each state feels distinct and offers its own set of challenges and charm.
Cons:
- Aging Sounds and Graphics: While still solid, the game is starting to show its age. The visuals, though serviceable, would benefit from a modern overhaul to bring them closer to photorealism. Similarly, the sound design could use more depth, with engine noises and environmental sounds feeling a bit flat in comparison to the competition.
- Unstable Multiplayer: The multiplayer experience, while a welcome addition, is inconsistent. Convoying with friends should be a highlight, but technical hiccups and issues with job syncing can make it frustrating. A more robust and stable multiplayer system would elevate the game significantly.
Final Thoughts:
Despite its minor drawbacks, American Truck Simulator excels at what it sets out to do—delivering a realistic and enjoyable trucking experience. It’s a simulator through and through, and it gets the simulation right. Whether you're chasing sunsets in California or braving icy roads in Montana, the game offers a relaxing escape that’s both meditative and rewarding.
If you're a fan of simulation games or simply looking for something to unwind with after a long day, American Truck Simulator is well worth the drive. While it’s not perfect, its charm and addictive gameplay make it a must-try for both trucking enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
This is the only time i've left a review for a game, 38 hours into this game, i hook my truck up to a trailer at an angle on a bridge in Tucson and hit T to attack trailer and it's like a bomb went off, trucks all of sudden totaled and locked up in some inexapable glitch spot, only way out is to call a tow truck. No big deal $381 in game, go to repair my truck, it's $46k, almost half the money i've made in the 38 hours of play :( no way to go back, no idea it was going to happen. just screwed outta the game, over it now. . . . . back to Mudrunner
the best feeling is driving for 40 minutes straight. having to turn the wheel only abouth 6 times but having to brake 20 times a minute becouse AI drives like absolute helmets.
9/10 would recomend if ur life is pointless and you feel like not doing sh*t
ATS is a great game to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the U.S. highway system. Building your trucking empire is fun and intuitive, cannot wait for SCS to complete all of America!
Addicting. "Just one more job, just one more job, just one more job. oh, its 3am." is a very common situation for me.
DLC model is pretty fair, state DLC's tend to go on sale quite often.
one of the games i've ever played
jokes aside, i do love this game. mindless trucking while i have a show playing on my second monitor .. it truly is something. i wouldn't recommend watching a show while driving in real life, though. that'll get you in trouble.
the dlc i have for this game is pretty epic too. as a non-american, it's almost like travelling to the states without actually going (only partially because a game can only show so much). lots to see, lots of roads to crash on and cause absolute havoc on. i love it
This is easily one of the best simulators I have ever played the difficulty is perfect the attention to detail is amazing they use real brand names for the trucks, the scenery could use a graphics update but other than that its a great game.
Fun even better with friends, long drives so buckle up get comfy
It is way more fun than it sounds. Cruising through sunsets, hauling random stuff, and upgrading your truck is oddly satisfying.
Driving feels great, but reversing trailers? Pure chaos. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll rage-quit (and come back). The DLCs are pricey but worth it if you want to explore more states.
Somehow, it’s both relaxing and stressful, but in the best way. Now I respect real truckers way more.
9/10—would totally miss another exit again.
Love the traveling anywhere from my desk, the scenery is fantastic. I own all the have in US so far waiting for Mo. & Iowa ( home states ) to be able to see my old stomping grounds !
is an excellent game for its price, you have thousands of possibilities and modifications, both of the truck and stuff, as the game with workshop or external mods, you can be chillin' driving on the roads of the map, while listening to a podcast, your playlist or even the car radio. The only thing I criticize the game, is that due to its age, the game engine has not had the best performance and especially because it still does not support DirectX12, but it is something that the developers are working right now to bring it soon to the game. Cheers.

I didn't think I would enjoy this game as much as I have. Enjoying the scenery of places I've never been is nice.
this game is very good! good graphics. good gameplay. and not a lot of bugs. just some ive noticed when driving. but besides that the game is great! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ATS!
sometimes crashes but its a good game
American Truck Simulator is a real driving game. I think the game is !Great!
You have to have a driver's license to simulate this game. Making Truck Sim a teenager game.
Five achievements are a lot of achievements for this game. I have eight and am 7 % through the game.
One of the achievements made me a 2% gamer, which is how to drive in the "Drivers Academy."
If you want to simulate driving a transport truck. American Truck Simulator is the best for simulated driving.
+ Get to explore the USA without having to deal with idiots on the road IRL
+ Cities are scaled pretty well
- My hometown isn't on the map
+ Modding community
+ Multiplayer convoys with IRL truckers is poggers
+ Achievements are in the sweet spot between "Here you go" and "Hope you have years to dedicate to it" making a working class citizen able to have fun
The menus are ugly and slow now, they added advertisements and 5G towers to the map for no reason. The new hybrid trucks are lame and just sound like toys, and also I hate how they release one state at a time piecemeal to try and maximize profits with endless DLCs packs (and who the hell really wants to drive around empty Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri etc.) There's nothing even there. They do this with jobs, trucks and skins as well. They do update after update and charge for DLC but in reality the gameplay hasn't really changed at all since the ETS2 release. One last thing - the more I played the game, It really is just too easy and not realistic or hardly challenging at all. Every turn you encounter in a city is a generic 90 degree turn in a well lit, open area with tons of room where you can always see oncoming traffic and pedestrians (even though there aren't even real pedestrians in the game), even at night somehow you can see everything too. Your vision is never obscured by a tree or building and you pretty much never have to make a fishhook turn or get into somewhere narrow, no cars ever parked on the side of roads, weather is never a factor and you will often see the same buildings and assets over and over again.. Feels like they charge a ton of money for a game that's easy to play and easy for them to make
awesome game, really captures the feeling of driving the highways of the US. The consistent updates, added content, and reworks continue to make the game fresh and interesting even through areas you have already been through many times.
great game but not for mods dont get me wrong but if you can find one that works good for you all the ones i tired off the workshop just crash it. but for a stock game its great i do wish you could up the power wow power it lacs even the largest engine at level 40 by the time you get up to speed you have another weigh station you have to slow down for no joke other then slowing down for light in the city where i started from on the weigh stations i was full out with the biggest and baddest engine and trans and just got to the speed limit at the end of a 500 mile trip. wasnt there more back before all the updates custom wise from parts. it feels like they took alot out of the game what made it good long frame lower to the ground.
Great game to explore the US and to see what is a day of a truck driver . Dev put lots of work for inside and outside of the truck.
Buddy showed me the game and i figured why not it is a really good game especially if you enjoy games like snow runner or farm sim
This game is very realistic, if you are rating it based on the real world. I myself live in California and all the city names are very recognizable. The trucks are very high quality and I've found myself enjoying places I've been IRL.
Overall: 9.5/10 from a New User that was playing the Demo(s) like crazy
Pros: Alot of detail to what you can drive, tune, upgrade, etc. Easy to use UI, quick to understand and get going. Very excited to continue and supporting. Not familiar with the mods, but I hear its absolutely massive the community is. Didn't think this was something I would get into but I'm hooked.
Cons: AI is sometimes frustrating, you can be driving perfect and sometimes an AI will pull out of a location or run a red light, hitting your truck/trailer causing damages and expenses. This is the only frustrating part, "why am I getting charged for bad AI?".
Also coming from the Demo there is alot more polished UI. Be wary that alt-tabbing out of the Demos can cause your FPS to unlock and your GPU to scream in temp and fan speed. (I also bought a wheel setup from someone who said this was the reason why they wont touch ATS. Of course now I know its only an issue on the Demo but that seems to have turned people off from the start)
I love American Truck Simulator, but I would like to see more improved graphics of the game to make it look more realistic that could be played in all the states of the United States, and more options to be able to customize the trucks more.
Unplayable as of the last (1.53) update. No, "unplayable" is an understatement: the game will not only crash on an hourly basis but will also completely crash and lock your system up along with it, forcing you to hard-reboot. Development oversight resulting in frequent, severe memory leaks.
Devs haven't responded to numerous threads, no fix in sight... stay away from this if nothing else to keep your PC from potential damage.
American Truck Simulator is relaxing and fun. Driving feels real, the maps look awesome, and it's cool to build up your trucking business. Great for anyone into sim games!
get through the dull training, and when you hit the open road, it becomes a great, fun experience. 10/10
This game is great to turn on when watching something in the background. It's realistic and fun, and the progression is good (could do with some more driver skills). I would recommend it to any lover of Sims.
this is as real as it gets. I am a truck driver and have been at it since 2007. this is an awesome sim game and i recommend it to anybody of any skill level. the actual driving and game play are amazing and the customisability of the trucks and trailers is pretty cool. you can use it with a regular keyboard or a driving wheel to make the experience so much more immersable. I'm waiting on my new hori truck set to see how much more fun this game can be.
This game is the best game in my steam library. It is highly immersive, and makes me feel like I am being a truck driver. I love trucks and I love driving trucks, this game is my ideal game. The roads despite being condensed a bit, are fairly accurate. I have driven down my favorite roads and gone "Huh this is just almost like my favorite road" multiple times. I am excited to buy the rest of the expansions because the game doesn't need them but they make it a lot better. If you also like trucks and driving trucks this game is good. I would give this game a 9/10 and it is one of my steam favorites. It is worth the money. I got it as a joke at first but it became one of my top five games.
If you like simple long haul driving, awesome scenery, and being a "trucker tourist", this game is for you. I was first introduced to this game by the YouTuber, Ryastream. The gaming community that Rya has created is amazing and I am glad I am part of it. I have nearly 900 hours into this game, and I am looking forward to another 900. There are some amazing contracts in this game, like visiting the home of Space-X. For best results, get yourself a wheel. I use the Logitech G-920, it works great and I have no complaints. If you have a VR headset, you MUST try ATS in VR...Mind Blown!!!
Completely Random comment to Devs: the detail y'all put into some of the locations is amazing. The stars on the overpasses in Texas was the first I noticed, but the layout of the truck stop in Hillsboro, TX ( a TA truck stop in real life) looks just like the real truck stop, complete with the sports bar adjacent to the parking lot and the wooden water tower. Great job!!!
American Truck Simulator is a relaxing and immersive experience that captures the beauty of the open road. With stunning landscapes, realistic driving mechanics, and the freedom to build your own trucking empire, it’s perfect for anyone who enjoys simulation games. The attention to detail, dynamic weather, and regular updates keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. Whether you’re hauling cargo through deserts or scenic highways, ATS offers a journey worth taking.

While I will always prefer Euro Truck Simulator 2 to this game, it is still an absolutely fantastic trucking simulator game where as the title implies you truck across America. Well a very limited part of the United States (California, Nevada and Arizona) in the base game + free DLC, but with additional paid DLC you can truck across about half of the United States at the moment with more US states being worked on all the time. It can get quite pricey with all the state DLC ( + there is a bunch of other trailer, trucks and cosmetic DLC as well if it is something you are interested into) but it is honestly absolutely worth it given the amount attention to detail and effort that gets put into this game as the game is also still updated all the time over 8 years after release.
It is not a game for everyone, but to me it is an incredibly chill time to just truck around, looking at the scenery while listening to a podcast or watching some video on the side. I would recommend playing it with wheel if possible as it makes it an even better experience.
The Linux version of the game has some issues here and there, nothing game breaking, but there is definitely some stuff I wish it got fixed that has mainly to do with the default startup resolution and window positioning.
This game is Amazing up until the point that you run into a drunk AI driver in the middle of nowhere. They will hit your truck flip it and then you have to walk back to the closet City that could be days away. Then you run out of water go into shock and die, all because you were trying to deliver Cup of Ramen soup from Nebraska to Washington for about $3.50. Then it turn out the customer wasn't really a customer it was the damn Lockness Monster that wanted about three fifty. But other then that its a fantastic game. 10/10 would die again for about three fifty.
its pretty realistic and i love the gameplay especially at night
The best truck sim on PC hands down come from Xbox series X Graphics and Framerate next level
Very fun for just pure American trucking. Big loads and long trips. the roads are a real replica of the USA.
if like trucking around are think you will enjoy it been a long sense are played this game try out the covnoy and dlcs and mods
Ah yes, cutting up through traffic, ramming into a couple cars on the way. The American dream.
Then i go into ATS and do it all over again
If only they did the same with ets2 and have more countries (in this case states) in each dlc cuz im not spending 20 euros on just Oregon
