Nice game
Fun game- arcadey and slippy. Worth it.
the developers behind this game are legendary (look up VRally3 on GBA)
Overall I would recommend this game. Great graphics, quick to load, and a good amount of content without a season pass etc.
Driving is satisfying but also punishing, it feels good to drift around corners and nail lines. But overall handling the cars is a bit too slippery, even more so on water. (the switch ver of this game has an option slider for vehicle handling and fixes the issue, but this is missing on PC?)
Music is usually subjective, but I would be surprised if anyone was blown away by the music here. For me it's as generic as it gets. I recommend turning the music off and playing one of the Ridge Racer soundtracks.
The game itself doesn't have much flavour, transforming into hover-cars and racing over water could have been the added spice, but they don't really do anything with it. No waves, ramps, or waterfalls, etc- it might as well be driving on ice..
That being said I don't want to hate on it, the tracks all look great in a Sega kind of way and it's pretty fun when you're in the zone.
I got it 70% off and I'm happy with this purchase
RISE is essentially a single player, arcade racer with a subtly futuristic aesthetic and a less subtly futuristic twist wherein your car Marty McFly's itself over the faintest hint of a puddle. Overall, it's a well made and enjoyable racer with plenty of variety to keep you engaged. It's worth £15 and certainly worth picking up on sale.
In depth:
Whilst there's only a few racing biomes, the arrangement of tracks across these areas allow for a wide selection of adequately different feeling races, ranging from short and fast circuits to lengthy, technical ones. The mixture of racing surfaces, dirt, tarmac, ice, water (yes water) and the variable weather conditions keep the races feeling fresh and new.
The car selection is perhaps a little more limited, consisting of only ten vehicles, but each vehicle is exceptionally well designed and each has fairly unique handling characteristics. Those characteristics can be further refined to personal taste with a selection of three sliders on the vehicle select screen, a feature I believe wasn't initially included at launch but patched in later based on feedback, and by selecting the way in which the car's boost meter fills up. As the performance of the cars increases you may well find yourself relying on these modifier to make them more controllable.
There's a good variety of game modes too; a career mode that not only requires winning races but fulfilling specific criteria per race (such as never being overtaken, drifting for a certain distance, or reaching a certain speed), a more standard championship mode, single races and time trials. I personally wasn't bothered by it, but it should be noted that there is, however, no online multiplayer.
The music is sadly a touch forgettable and generic, but the sound effects are otherwise exemplary.
I would say the car handling may be the make or break factor on whether you enjoy this game; whilst I would consider this game to be more of an arcade racer than a sim, the physics are a little more on the realistic side and can be unforgiving of mistakes; for instance if you hit a jump wrong, or clip the scenery, you may well end up spinning out in a way that looses you the race. Flying across the water can be equally fraught with danger as a car hovering along at full pelt, unimpeded by friction, is apparently very easy to spin out. Flying across the surface of a lake requires you to pick sweeping, smooth race lines and to avoid sharp cornering.

P.S. I've played this through twice now, once on switch and once on PC, but I have no feedback regarding the VR mode.
A pretty standard but cool arcade racing game with an acceptable amount of content for the price, especially if you get it on a sale.
I don't know if this is an iOS port or it was launched on multiple platforms at the same time, but it looks like a mobile game (the low poly futuristic zeppelin is always there as a reminder) and it plays like one.
- Pros:
- AI is OK.
- It can sometimes gives you Ridge Racer or NFS2SE vibes.
- It's camera settings should be in every other racing game out there.
- It has a VR more (for some reason)
- Cons (Oh boy!)
- Graphics (is an iOS game), It looks like Riptide series.
- innovation. Is a flatout boring game, boring challenges, boring tournaments, boring OST (it fits more to any cruising game like ETS2 than a racing game).
- nothing feels like a car. Physics is closer to an antigravity racer but slower.
- Challenges is a chore.
- Mini map and arrows is a mess. It shows all possibles layouts so most of the time you get lost in the water part of the track.
- If you touch the mouse, controller stops working 'til you get in a race.
- Suggestions. This game needs:
- Split screen
- Replay mode (Come on devs it's a racing game after all)
- 360 Right Stick camera control
- Zeppelin has to go
- Single race mode (I believe it was included in some older version of the game, Idk why this isn't a feature). No time attack is not enough.
- A dept of field post effect would be nice instead of ugly filters.
In the end is OK to pick this up and play for a weekend or so (I almost finish the game in 14 hours), but for this even I can't recommend this (not on sales either),
Controls on water are fine, but when you are on the road it feels like you are on the water again.
I hate racing games that are all visuals and no controls.
Drifting DOES NOT work like this.
Just too hard of a game to be enjoyable.
Great 'technical' arcade racer with fantastic 'concept car' aesthetic. I think too many people think of Burnout or even Mario Kart when they think of arcade racers, but this game draws it's inspiration from the Sega classics where technical mastery is key, not shortcuts and catch-up mechanics.
I'd held off on this game for a long time because of complaints about unfair difficulty, but after finally picking it up I have to disagree. The game can be a big challenge, but there are a multitude of difficulty levels and wildly different handling cars that I think most will find their way through the game. No (noticeable) rubber-banding either, which is a HUGE bonus in my book.
If you love Sega Rally, Daytona, and the era of 'technical' arcade racers, give this one a go.
This game found its way onto my ssd at the exact right time. It was exactly the game I searched for. An arcade racer without cheesy cutscenes, no weaponry stuff just pure racing in beautiful sceneries. At the beginning I was like mnja, but after 2 tracks it got me hooked and I wanted to get my 100%. The steering is very fine despite what other reviews have mentioned. it takes a while to get accustomed but drifting and boosting feels fast and really good. Odd though, it has no multiplayer included...
But now after 10hrs and having played it through completely I don't have much more to unlock and have seen all the levels. Don't have a vrheadset but I can imagine it being super fun
Good quality arcade racer. Decent rally style physics. Not quite on the level of Grid 2 but probably the closest we will get.
More like Sega Rally.

Fantastische graphics maar net niet zo fantastisch als GriP.
De geluidseffecten lijken eerder onafgewerkt want je hoort enkel de motoren van de verschillende bolides maar voor de rest amper iets anders. De muziek is ok maar niet meer dan dat!
Qua rijgedrag sluit ik mij aan met de rest van de reviewers, het racen voelt niet echt top aan, wss ook te wijten aan het gebrek aan soundeffects, maar ook qua besturing!
Toch vind ik deze game een erg leuk tussendoortje maar het hoort absoluut niet tot de toppers!
Het afwisselen van de ondergrond en het voertuig dat zich aanpast van wielen op de grond tot zweven over over het water lijkt mij vooral leuk. En er is wel redelijk wat afwisseling tussen de racemonsters en trajecten plus ook de weer effecten zijn leuk meegenomen.
Graphics: 9,5/10

Positives:
+ good graphics
+ ok music
+ beautiful tracks and landscapes
+ a lot of challenges and a championship mode
+ different difficulty modes (which you'll most likely need to change during the game)
+ some sense of speed if you choose the bumper view
Negatives:
- handling is so so and rather difficult
- floaty feeling when driving, its more like hovering above the track than driving on it
- driving on water is even harder
- some cars are just horrible to drive, so avoid to use them
- not enough variation in landscapes and tracks
- the higher difficulty levels are too hard, I recommend to use the two lowest levels
- sense of speed is not the best, there is not much difference if you are driving in 60 or in 200
- boost does not do much difference either
If you want a challenging futuristic arcade racer, and its on sale, this is a ok game to buy.
But be aware that the handling is difficult, so only use the cars that are drivable.

Is pretty, its arcadey, its fun, VR works fine.
But it doesnt support g29 racing wheel, and on 29 Mar, 2019 the dev said he would fix it, and as of today, still hasnt.
Forums seem to indicate there is a way to make it work, but in my experience didnt work at all.
Game looks great, runs pretty good, but the game seems abandoned, and instead of fixing the issue the dev points to a guide that doesnt work, and is pretty out dated.
So essentially if you want an arcade racer that can be played with controls or kb it might be worth it.
If you intended to play it with a racing wheel, as Jebus intended all racing games to be played... youll probably be dissapointed.
Probably earns a RECOMMENDED, as outside the racing wheel issue, there arent many problems, but the "abandonment" makes me hold on that until they keep their word.
Review of initial impressions based on a few races.
After the first race I thought this game was going to be the closest thing we'd get to a new Sega Rally for a while. Then the next race I did I'm on water. WTF?! I didn't read any reviews before purchasing, so obviously this was a surprise.
Handling is knife-edge. Once you lose the back end it's impossible to get it back. I call this phenomenon "default spin" because it feels the same every time, no matter how you spin the spin is the same. A lot of games have it. However, what I like to do is figure out the handling and drive within this parameter and it's possible here. It's fun.
Graphics are okay, nothing special but not awful. Sound effects very average by today's standards. Music is above average.
Definitely wait for a discount, probably more than 50% off. Racefans only.
HELLO! I have been waiting what feels my entire life to write this review and i cannot wait.
So about a year ago i found this game and i fell in love. It has so many things i like about it. For starters its a racing game that just feels really good. I dont like games that make me feel like im driving in a straight line all the time. This game has excellent level design. And the way the cars feel is unheard of. The steering feels so touchy when u first play it but once u get the hang of it its perfect. I really enjoy all the play i get with my controller while driving. I can get fancy with my stick movement, my gas and brake, and the handbrake is amazing. Some games the handbrake dosent feel right but here it has alot of respect from me.
The graphics are awesome. I enjoy the car design and game concept. I like the missions the game gives u. I enjoy exploiting the game such as when im doing a drift challenge but am coming up short. I can just drive backwards and make up track to drift more. I love crashing into the AI and seeing them tip over. Its almost like physics from DRIFT .
Near the end of the game **SPOILER** you get a truck with amazing handling, then the final car is fast as fuck and makes the whole game feel worth all the grinding. It took me about 20hrs to beat last year. But now that i know u can set the game to easy it will take me less time to beat this time.
Now for the negatives. And i wanna shit on the devs as much as i can here truly.
SO last fucking year i bumped my computer power cord while racing in this game. IT COMPLETELY CORRUPTED MY SAVE FILE. But it gets worse.
So even after deleting the game, and trying that BS in the properties called "Verify game files" or whatever, i could not get the game to run anymore. I tried for monthes man. Until one day i just gave up and accepted the fact that i could never play this game again. And my main interest was to play the time trials because i found a few level skip parts . A few areas where u can jump over track parts to skip parts of the level.
I went on the steam forums for this game and i had no help at all. One guy had same issues and the devs of the game were nice enough to help him fix it somehow. I could not for the life of me figure how to get a fresh install of this game.
FAST FORWARD A FUCKING YEAR!!!!
I rebuilt my entire pc from scratch. New motherboard and processor, and fresh windows ten key.
I get my new computer set up with my steam and low and behold this game works now.
Honestly i cant wait to play more. Just did like 2 hrs and loving it.
But a message to the devs. I think your pieces of shit. I messaged you on the steam forums, and i messaged u directly on twitter with no help or response. I couldnt get a refund either which is BS if the game wasnt working for me . If your gonna make a game you need to make it work for the people who bought it and actually like it.
I dont reccomend anyone buying this because of the issue i had with the corrupted file and no help from devs. But strictly looking at this as a racing game, i give it 9/10 for the way the racing feels.
I thought I liked this game, but I don't.
So if you're reading the reviews, you've probably noticed that the most common criticism is that your car is difficult to control- this is true... if you pick one of the faster cars with tighter turning. If you pick the slightly slower, more tanky car, it's mostly fine.
This was what I did for a good chunk of the game, and for that good chunk it was fun. I was getting a handle on how drifting worked, how to make the most of your boosts, and so on. It was tough, but enjoyable.
Then I got to late game. Late game is where all this game's problems are amplified tenfold and it just becomes ridiculous. You essentially have 2 options: Car that is fast enough to actually beat the challenges, but slips so easily and is so light that the game is basically unplayable... OR... a car that actually works, but is too slow to keep up with the AI racers who are all using the fast cars (whom have no trouble with slipping, btw). I think you see the problem.
Another serious issue is that the AI is terrible. It feels like they have a pre-scripted path they have to stick to and have no sense of situational awareness. This means they will absolutely let you plow into them, and worse yet, brainlessly plow into you. Combine this with the slippery controls and you have moments where a car just shows up out of nowhere, bonks your trunk, makes you spin into a 180, and boom you're in last place. Oh, and the challenge was "never be in last place", so better restart.
The big plus is that the art direction is nice... but there's only 4 environments, so you wind up seeing the same setpieces over and over the whole game. It loses its flashy points after about 2 hours.
All in all, I got about 9 hours out of this game before I decided I was done with its BS. I got it on sale because I was just in the mood for a racing game, and I guess for just trying to scratch that itch, it was good enough. But I would not recommend buying it at full price.

Yes, it works with a gamepad but awful wheel support and no in-car cockpit view kill it for me.
Hope this gets sorted as it could be a great arcade racer for VR fans. VR is the only way to play driving games now in my opinion.
I haven't played this game for too long, but I don't need to to give it a strong recommendation, these devs are well known for being the mostly 2 person team behind GBA 3d games, that 60fps 3DS fps, among other things. I am running this game on a gtx 1060, and i can run this game at high settings, at 2160x1200 windowed, at a smooth 144fps, and it still looks beautiful. These devs deserve way more attention, and triple a's need to learn how to optimize their games like these two people. TWO PEOPLE. these triple a's got ten bajillion dollars and they can barely chunk out a 60fps.
tl;dr these devs are godlike, support them
oh and the game itself is a neat racer with good music and great visuals, but ive said that already
edit: realized that velez died recently and they got a lot more than slight help than i though they did, BUT ITS STILL REALLY IMPRESSIVE

An underrated kind of arcade rally game, with lot of qualities !
But what drove me to buy the game is the implementation of VR, and this game does this very well ! Simple, efficient, very well optimized, that's all we ask !
Rise RTF is not the ultimate arcade experience because some features lacking, but it has very solid bases and open to go far away !
We must encourage these developers because they have done a remarkable job on the overall production, seem very open to suggestions from players and want to go further !
Bravo !

It's an arcade racer. Nobody makes those anymore. Unlike the plethora of WipeOut and F-Zero clones around this is more like the old Burnouts or RidgeRacers. For the price it's totally fine. Lacks some polish and multiplayer.
Great game! I bought this game because I'm a big fan of the Ridge Racer series of games. The mechanics are pretty similar, you power slide around corners and you can turbo boost by building up drift power. You also have options of how you build up that turbo boost. You can do it by drifting or by maintaining a top speed. These are supposed to be futuristic type cars so you drift over land & water and various different types of terrain. The tracks are varied & challenging with many deep twists & turns to master. I'm enjoying it a lot more then the last Ridge Racer redo, because I'm not a big fan of the car destruction thing. At it's regular low retail price of $15.99 it's a really great deal. I'll be playing this game a lot, so I'm sure I"ll get my moneys worth out of it. 4 &1/2 stars!
Arcade racers are my favourite genre and like many other fans of the genre I've spent most of this generation lamenting their demise or waiting for\giving up on vapourware like "90s Arcade Racer".
This one came out of nowhere for me the other day when I stumbled across it on Steam. Seems it came out about a month ago.
I wasn't expecting much, especially considering the very low price, but I am extremely impressed.
The few youtube videos seem to all use the behind the car view which for some reason makes the game seem to not have much of a sense of speed.
Using the dash or bumper cam views is a different story, with a very nice sense of speed.
The graphics are very nice indeed, and in places the style reminds me of Sega model 3 stuff (higher res obviously).
The music ranges from good enough to excellent (as arcade racer music).
The tracks are full of twists and turns for satisfying drifting and boosting.
And the gameplay itself is top tier arcade stuff, in my opinion.
I've played more arcade racers than most and for me at least, this game has IT, that certain something that makes some racers compelling and others not.
The boost system is well implemented, cornering is easier while boosting, the driving feels satisfying (although not a clone of any other arcade racer I can think of, I can feel similarities to Sega Rally 1 and 2 and post-psp Ridge Racers).
The challenges feel the right difficulty level to me. They're challenging but not annoyingly so. It really has that "just one more try" appeal.
This game is just good old fashioned arcade racing fun.
It's an easy recommendation for arcade racing fans with steam, especially given the very low price.
