An extremely solid agrav racer with heaps of love and attention to detail. You can tell the game was made by people with a lot of love for the subgenre. Ships are reactive, handle tightly, and even the floatiest of them can be wrangled around a corner with a little practice and acclimation. General ship handling can even be adjusted to be closer to other agrav racer series if you don't enjoy the game's default settings. Every track is beautifully rendered with gorgeous stylized environments, and regardless of if your potato clock somehow needs the visuals and resolution dropped to their lowest or if you can run 30 instances of the game in VR at max settings, I would bet money that you wouldn't find a single track ugly. The music compliments the gameplay extremely well, drawing similarities to games like the WipEout series without sounding derivative and very comfortably standing on their own as fittingly high-energy dynamic tracks. The game is a steal even at full price, and frankly I can't recommend it enough. If you're experienced with the agrav racer subgenre, then you'll have dozens of hours of enjoyment in this game with all of its campaigns, challenges, and tracks. If you're instead not all that familiar with agrav racers and just wanna get a cool-looking racing game for a bit of fun, the low price tag and wide array of speed settings means you can get comfortable with the game and start going fast in no time at all.

If it looks interesting at all, buy this game. It's incredibly easy to get your money's worth out of it, and unless you suddenly come to the realization that you aren't all that into racing games midway through your playtime, I'd wager you'll get much more than your money's worth from your experience.

Do you like going fast?! Then this is for you. Inspired by the game wipeout, this is a hyper speed racing game, with tons of room for growth. Learning the mechanics is key and essential to actually doing a decent job. Its very hard in my opinion but very rewarding. If only skins were easier to design *sigh*. All well, the community and the game itself has enough support that there will enough in the base game to keep you entertained for hours.

After searching for a game similar to Wipeout as wanted to play something similar after many years found this gem.

Controls feels great, started with Pure on the PSP and dont remember well the physics but playing this game is responsive, fun and addicting, many campaigns, tracks, ships and challenges.

A game made with care for sure and kept up to date.

Its actually so close that it doesn't only look like it, feels like it but also behaves almost identical.

Volt's Verdict on BallisticNG

I've been playing the Wipeout games since fusion, and I've only really gone back to the older titles in more recent years and I got to say, even though its quite a learning curve, I can definitely still see why some people prefer the older handling model, which this game is mostly based off.

However, it turns out that this game also has physics models from every Wipeout game and some twists on those sprinkled in too. I think that the game can be a little too hard in the harder levels, though that could also be ascribed to my lack of familiarity with the older physics.

There is some lack of polish here, it is a fan game in the end of the day so i think that's to be expected, plus its not like all the Wipeout games were spotless either. Regardless, the new 2280 update has basically perfected the game in my opinion, and it plays great on steam deck too.

I just miss Wipeout so much God damn sometimes I just stare into the cover of my copy of WipeoutHD/Fury at the studio liverpool logo and weep for hours, I'm not sure if this game numbs the pain or makes it worse.

Do you like the anti-gravity racing game Wipeout? Then buy this immediately. It really is that simple.

Dozens of ships, livery options, speed classes, race modes (including a version of my favorite, Zone), familiar weapons, and boost pads and nose-pointing, all with beautifully-styled nostalgic graphics and a pounding electronic soundtrack that feels straight out of Wipeout 3.

Yes, it's a difficult racing game, but it does have a gradual difficulty increase in the campaign mode, and it does not require perfection in every race to allow you to progress, so you can come back later and be amazed with how easily you now destroy the records that you struggled with before. It can be frustrating, but there's just nothing like pulling off a perfect lap when you're in Zone 60.

It also works great on Steam Deck, but the speed can be a bit hard to read on that small screen. Not impossible by any means, but bigger, high-refresh-rate screens are easier in my opinion. Devs say it's also DRM-free here on Steam, which is a nice bonus.

If it looks like WipEout and sounds like WipEout and plays like WipEout then... Seriously, it feels like a WipEout game. Let's hope the copyright mafia doesn't find out.

I had completely forgotten to write a review this and its a simple one. If you loved Wipeout on the PSX 1 then pick this game up immediately at any price. The game is awesome!

The developers have put a lot of love into this game and its had regular updates. The game plays and feels incredible and it has a ton of mods available as well. Simply a no brainer purchase for racing fans of this genre!

The best anti-gravity racer on the market.

Racing is as fast and frantic as you'd expect, with a few milliseconds being the difference between turning prematurely, crashing you into the inside wall, & missing the turn completely, crashing you into the outside wall. While it is easily possible to sight-read the tracks with the lower speed class ships, memorization becomes key if you want to achieve the platinum medals on each track at higher speeds. The weapons feel weighty, though honestly there might just be a few too many weapon pads on some of the tracks - Sometimes I find myself barely able to deploy a full set of mines before I'm already on top the next pad, ready to unleash that always satisfying "plasma" hit. The campaigns are meaty with a strong selection of tracks, vehicles, & other variables, with each track playable in reverse as you'd expect.

There's two distinct physics models, each with their own little idiosyncracies, and each their own campaign in which to explore them. 2159 is floaty & loose, with RB acting as an afterburner, allowing you to trade your remaining shield health for a boost of speed. 2280 is heavier, trading the afterburner for barrel rolls, weapon absorption, and stronger air brakes, allowing for double-tap strafing. For Wipeout veterans, you might find it's similar to the difference between 2097/XL and a later title like HD/Fury. Both are fun in their own way, but I do prefer the tighter feeling controls of the 2280 model.

The visuals are immediately recognizable, and just like everything else in BNG, they're incredibly customizable as well. You can run the game at any arbitrary resolution you'd like with modern AA/AF techniques & draw distances, or you could choose to use any mix of the various PS1-themed visual options. There's separate emulations for the PS1's iconic rasterization, texture mapping, & dithering techniques, which can be used independently with a very tweakable set of CRT parameters, which can be set conservatively to invoke a pleasant nostalgia, or dialed to the extreme to make a laughably unplayable mess. Even the photo mode has a ridiculous number of options, though sadly none of them make up for a lack of artistic talent.

On top of all the work that's gone into (and continues to go into) official development, you also have a fairly strong community of players & creators thanks to online multiplayer & Steam Workshop integration. Importing new ships & tracks is easy, and there's enough of it that, should you ever exhaust the contents of the base game & its cheaply priced DLC, there should be more than enough to keep you occupied for dozens hours more.

Overall, BallisticNG is a very easy game to recommend. It's a love letter to Wipeout & anti-gravity racing in general, with a sprinkling of originality, a hell of a lot of polish, an incredible amount of content, and all the modern amenities you could hope for. Nostalgic yet fresh, and of course, challenging as hell - I wouldn't have it any other way.

Not only the best wipeout I've played in decades but one of my personal favorite arcade racers ever. The polished playstation vibe is some of my favorite eye candy in video games. BallisticNG has one of the highest fun to money spent ratios in my steam account.

Incredible love letter to the WipEout games, from the older ones (with optionnal emulation of PS1 limitations) to the most recent ones.

If you were a fan of WipeOut and especially WipeOut XL, this is the game for you. The racing and feel of it is exactly what you're looking for. This is the anti grav racing experience you're looking for.

I'm not a reviewer, but I wanted to give this game a positive review regardless of my ability to write an objective review and hopefully point some people out to play and support the devs and try to get into this niche genre because this game is really worth the time if you're into racers and AG racers specifically and I'm having lots of fun with it.
The retro visuals are smooth and they don't feel cluttered like the rest of newer AG racing games, it is down to preference but I think it really does make it feel better, more precise and clean stylistically. Easy to focus on things that are going on. Clearly inspired by the PS1 Wipeout games but don't take it as a substitute! This game is its own thing, it has its own personality and its awesome. For me this game makes me feel cosy and nostalgic because it reminds me of the simpler times of playing Need for Speed II and III as a kid and various other racers of that era. There is the option to change the style of the graphics with a good amount of options if you prefer a more modern look.
I haven't been with this game for a long time, but I've seen and read about it and its got some history. The devs are still working on it for years and that shows how this is a labour of love project which elevates it.
Gameplay is smooth, precise, and it feels real good when you manage to get better times and progress through the difficulties, without bumping into walls and such. Plenty of tricks to learn and practice to get better and better. Requires lots of practice, but its not bad for a beginner either.
Soundtrack is a banger! It invokes the aforementioned NFS nostalgia I have. Obviously it ain't just that, but works perfectly with the style of the game.
Despite what it seems I love this game for what it is not for the nostalgia. You even have the option to make your own soundtrack.
There are plenty of community tracks and ships with vast amount of playstyles to choose from aswell. Kudos to the modders and the support for modding.

Can confirm it slaps on the Steam Deck. It’s a fun fast paced racer where the retro graphics work very well.

It takes more skill than I thought and I like how aerodynamics come into play.

Would be cool if they added a currency to career mode to buy/ upgrade ships so it feels more rewarding.

I honestly find it difficult to find any real flaws in this game. It's everything you'd want as a fan of the Wipeout series, be it the classics or the later entries (though I have little to no experience beyond the first 3 games).

Wipeout 2097 was one of my all-time favourites, and nothing has recaptured that like this game has. Fantastic feeling, so many ways to customise your experience, and a plethora of tracks and vehicles to choose from. I tend to use my own music collection, and in fairness you can't compete with licensed tracks like the big franchises have, so the music is 'alright'. The audio effects though: amazing; I can't ever tire of hearing "mines, plasma, rockets, ROCKETS!" If you liked AG racers, you need this one.

It's the original Wipeout, basically. What's not to like? If you're old, like me, and remember the originals, it's amazing. If you've never played the original games, you're really missing out.

This is the game thanks to which I discovered WipEout and the AG Racing genre. It's difficult, but very fun and stylish. If you're enjoying the base game, I definitely recommend buying the DLC campaigns.

Competitor for one of my favourite racing games of all time, and most of the competition is wipeout, the games its trying to be the successor too.
The options and variety is amazing, the campaigns and ability to make your own, the workshop support, the music, its fantastic across the board.
Honestly, my only complaint I have is that I WANT MORE. Its all the wipeout i could want and i just want more and more. The workshops great for this, adding hundreds of courses and ships, and I genuinely hope some day this game takes off even more and this game can become the perfect high speed racer.

Very simple game but it does have a very addicting and steep learning curve when going to higher speeds and AI difficulties, yet despite this everything so far seems very balanced which is damn difficult to do so kudos to the devs! You guys have produced quite an amazing game!

Also they still update this game, I think 1.4 is coming soon so you bet there is still more content coming! :)

This game absolutely slaps on the OLED Steam Deck. Solid 90 FPS, gorgeous colors, tight and responsive controls. It's hard to sit still while you're absolutely flying around the tracks. I originally fell in love with anti-gravity racing with WipeOut XL and nearly 30 years later this scratches that same itch so hard and I love it.

this game is absolutely amazing for what it is and it has quickly become my favorite racing game of all time. i am a big fan of the wipeout games and this is just peak as all hell if you love fast paced futuristic racers. 10/10 game i will be playing it till i die

It definitely needs a little polish on the difficulty, although I feel that the difficulty stems more from the physics screwing you over than anything. The game punishes you for cornering by boosting the crap out of you, makes it impossible to beat the AI unless you stay firmly in first, and it feels like a perfectionist test at times. You must have Jedi reflexes to race these cars. The tracks are also pretty narrow overall, which both helps and hinders the gameplay. While it's fun to go fast and look cool taking a narrow raceway perfectly, a single smack will end your journey pretty quick. It would be nice to see some wider race ways since the floaty physics often leaves you smacking straight into a wall.

That being said it's about the only AG racer on the market these days, and it's a good one at that. Good mod support, but the real killer is the splitscreen, which should set a standard for any local coop game on PC. It allows the use of multiple monitors, as well as an absurd amount of customization for your races. Plus the hovercars are cool.

Overall, the difficulty is just about the only thing dragging this down. If you got friends or fa/ily though, this will probably be a household favorite for years to come. It's a solid piece of software overall, 8.5/10 fix the difficulty and I'd say 10.

I have never played the original wipE'out" games so it's not nostalgia bringing me to this franchise. BallisticNG is just a very good racing game. It's pretty hard and so far I'm still far from being an expert in it, but I've already experienced how it feels to get better and better at it. It feels great.

The retro visuals don't bother me at all. The music is almost entirely very good, in fact I got the soundtrack just so that I can listen to it while I work. I needed to add "almost" because of a single track with an annoying repeating beep that sounds like a microwave button press. It's not a bad track either, "Bay Sound", but man, that beep drives me crazy. Fortunately, you can skip tracks.

I don't have much else to say. Controls are good, the campaign system maximizes usage of the same maps in interesting ways, the powerups are cool and fun to use, the expansions are good. I especially liked Neon Nights so far. Awesome mood.

All in all, recommended. No notes. Five stars.

I have a passing curiosity with Wipeout in that all I've ever tried was the Omega Collection, 2097 (on Saturn) and the one on Vita, and I've found this one plays quite nicely. I'm bad at games so naturally I haven't gotten quite far into this yet but it looks and feels great to play. Nice stuff.

If you have played Wipeout on the Playstation, then you are going to feel right at home with this, since this is like a love letter to the racing franchise. However, this is not your grandfathers Wipeout, this is Wipeout for the talented.

The game feels incredible and flows really well, and the campaign helps start to ease players into the races. But once you get to maybe the mid second/third set of campaigns, the training wheels come off and all the AI play for keeps, so if you are wanting all the gold/platinum medals, you need to work your butt off to get them.

As said before, the game flows well that if you put wipeout and ballisticng *or BNG according to the community*, you'd think they are the same game. You have a good choice of ships ranging from handling focused ships, to ships that excel in pure speed, you have your air brakes to take sharper corners and even the pit lanes to restore your armour like the classic wipeout games or even F-Zero. What this game does add alongside that also, is a self boost button, that when pressed, gives you a boost for as long as you hold down the button, at the cost of your armour, very much like F-Zero, so during races you will have to make the decision on risk vs reward.

Near enouth all the events from past wipeout games are present in this, from races, time trials, eliminations and even zone races, so you are never wanting for new race choices. There is even a special mode for time trials that tests the limits of the player on unique courses, aiming for perfection on every single corner and boost.

There is also multiplayer and mod support which i have not touched so i cannot give my verdict on that.

This game, can be brutal at points, sometimes on inclines or certain corners, my ship would bounce so much, losing speed and losing positions, the game wants you to pitch the ship up or down to prepare for such corners, yet playing on controller it felt hit or miss. I even question if playing on keyboard would've been the preferred method of play. So that can be a bit annoying, even more so when you reach 1v1 races and the AI is perfect on near every corner and you get screwed over by a slight bump.

My verdict on this however is positive, it has the nostalgia i longed for from past wipeout games but it has become too professional for me, that doesn't mean its bad, it just means i'm not as good as i used to be.
I would recommend the full price for what it has going for, its super reasonable and dare i say more better than current triple A games out currently, AND it still gets updated from the modders and the dev team.

An ungodly amount of effort and love was put into this game by the developer and it shows. Really good modding support, extremely satisfying controls, striking aesthetics, incredible soundtrack, and a level of polish I haven't seen in a long time.
