The WipEout that Sony wishes it could make.
i want to kill my grandpa
the levels, the music, the vibe. it's all here
Oh, hey. This game has VR support.
* hooks up VR *
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!11!!1!!!one!!1!!
Best anti-gravity racer out there and one of the best games ive ever played. Lots of mods to use for tracks and ships and also easy to make for too. Very rewarding and satisfying. The new 2280 ships with the updated physics are very nice and a lot of fun.
Game is game, there is game play to be played
In. Credible. If you're a fan of the classic WipEout anti-gravity racing series, this is a must buy. That's what this is. WipEout XL/3 and it's amazing. Very fast by default, I guess my only issue with it is that there's no slower speeds to get started(not that I need it personally..), just sometimes it's fun to race a bit slower. Anyway, it's amazing, always constantly updated, even now, with new content, DLC packs are awesome and cheap, Workshop adds TONS of tracks, many from the WipEout series.. it scratches that wipEout itch perfectly. This is it.
Before I begin to gush about how amazing this game really is, buy it. Now. You won't regret your purchase. Mac, Linux, or Windows, doesn't matter, it runs like a dream, plays like a dream, and has a glut of content and workshop stuff to keep you busy.
You want Wipeout? Forget Redout, Pacer, or any of the other games that purport to be the "definitive futuristic racing game".
This is as close to Wipeout 2097/3 that you can get, period. The physics are spot on, feel good, and most of all, PERFECT. The graphics can feel like the retro games of old, but with a few tweaks, can look like a modern interpretation of the original art styling from the Wipeout games of old, with pretty great effects to boot. The tracks, while nothing like the old games, are still freaking fantastic to race on, feeling familiar yet improved across the board.
GET THIS GAME. The devs continuously update it with new content, fresh UI ideas, and now with an updated physics engine to boot, there's just SO MUCH here to chew threw. Plus, there's hover bikes now.
It's peak
This is a game that uses a retro look to it's advantage, allowing players to set their in race appearance to either have a more retro look, or give it a more modern look (this will be especially true when the 2280 Ship Variants come out (if they have not by the time someone reads this)), this game has gameplay like that of WipEout, with the 2159 ships having a very weird but good and interesting airbrake mechanic once learned, as well as having a mechanic where you can trade shielding for more speed (which you will need to use at times) which is also a very interesting. there is additionally a large variety of tracks to play, modes like elimination, races, time-trials, and survival; and Sub-modes like Drag-races and precision trials for those that want to go through precision hell.
the main campaign that i have played so far is pretty good, with almost half of the campaign complete i can say... it's like a retro game, that i mean that the game after the "breeze" section being given a difficulty spike that will quickly try to make you get used to using the pitching on luna if you want to get more than a bronze medal in its time trial, yes unlike the newer titles of WipEout for the most part (i do not know if older titles make you use the pitching mechanic if it was present) where pitching the vehicle is more of a get higher records than a get best medals, this game actually makes you use pitching... which is what i like about this game, apart from how soon into the game it makes you do it. additionally, with the difficulty spike the time trials can be a bit insane for some after "Breeze", apart from that the pacing of the difficulty is fair, if not a bit of a difficulty spike but manageable.
finally the layout creator was something that i thought could make fully fledged tracks without any decorational objects, however this is not the case, which is kind of sad especially since i do not have the wish to download and use another game engine to make tracks and it should be easy enough to put the weapon pad, boost pad, and pit-stop lanes into the layout editor with it's current tech, though this is fine as it is clear that it should (Hopefully) be easy enough to make tracks when i decide to get the Unity game engine.
overall, this game is very fun and very good for those who either want the older WipEout experience, or for those who want a good and (VERY) moddable AG Racing game. and though some aspects could be improved, the overall experience is very good, and is still being updated even as of this is being posted.
Terrible controls from another age.
VR Controllers are NOT supported, it only supports VR viewing.
Played Wip3out Pure on the PSP, and now i have it on my PC. Goated game will spend my life savings on all DLC
peak
I've owned this game for 4 hours and been playing it for 3 hours, then spent the other 30 minutes installing mods. A couple of Chemical Brothers, Prodigy and other breakbeat & Acid techno MP3s later, I feel right at home. I know damn well Imma be playing more of this tomorrow.
Also never heard of a game that actually suggested I play on the lowest settings, before. thanks devs, this is the Wip3out successor I've always wanted. :D
BY ANY MEANS
Even after the game session my heart still pumping for all that drive and speed and style.
Every bit of it seems like a labor of love and STYLE and I love it.
Great zero g combat racing- brings me back to Wipeout days :D
Taken me awhile to find such a golden racing game however here it is.
Has more features and options than most development teams can dream in a life-time.
Mod support and dare I say even the Mod Authors sense of quality are top-tier on Steam.
And is still getting (huge) updates after all these years; that's the mark of a legend in my book.
What more could you want? This racing game has it all; can even change the behavior of hovering.
I'm still learning what this game has to offer as it's my first foray into this sub-genre.
However as I continue to grow and become more skilled at racing here; I expect I will try out more features.
Yet I'm already a satisfied customer on initial entry of features, mods, courses, difficulty, aesthetics, and beyond.
Support this game and add this solid racing product to your game collection. Well worth it.
This game is absolutely something else. For starters, the barrier for entry is really low, but the skill ceiling is a mile high. The effort you put into this game pays off in dividends. The feeling of running perfect laps in Zen speeds (comparative to Phantom in Wipeout) is like nothing else out there, and it's equally impressive to watch. This is a game that when you're good at it, it's something you can be proud of. On the flip side, even if you just want to run through the many campaigns, the devs have crafted hours and hours of content for people to chew on. You can take this game as casually, or as seriously, as you want and get something from it. There is a ton of track variety, different modes, multiplayer (including split-screen!) and a ton of custom tracks out there people have made. Also, this game is much easier to mod than most other games and the devs highly encourage it. From dragging and dropping audio files for both music and all of the games announcements and sound effects, to a baked-in and comprehensive track builder, it can't be beat. You can even import custom ship skins and they've made .psd templates available to make it that much easier.
Vonsnake and crew have created something special. If you like racing games, you owe it to yourself to give BallisticNG a try. This is not just a love letter to Wipeout. This is a creation that can stand on its own merits and will give you something grow on and play for years and years to come.
This game has so much love put it in for a criminally low price. It holds true to so many aspects of old games of this genre and brings features that we all wished we had back during those times. The option to set the graphics to replicate those of a PSX system is such a good feature.
The music is great, all the base game race tracks are fantastic, the selection of vessels is also well-varied.
It deserves a much higher player base than it has now.
Online multiplayer only has 2 gamemodes available. If you want to get this game to play it online with your friends, I cannot recommend until all the multiplayer gamemodes are available in online play. Very disappointing from an otherwise great game.
As a massive fan of the original 3 Wipeout's this game is as close as you can get to playing them again. The custom track and ship support for this game is a must for any Wipeout fan. I love this game so much and the Dev's for making it.
Great game, feels great to play and is very fast. It feels a lot like a modern version of Wipeout 64, but also better in many ways. 10/10 would recommend.
If you love Wipeout, you're gonna f*cking love this, simple as that!
9/10
Mostly play on my Steam Deck, so hours aren't accurate
Can say it's one of the more harder AG racers available, you'll be redoing tracks with shortcuts, refining jumps and perfecting the racing line for those platinum medals in campaign mode.
Take a look at the other overwhelmingly positive reviews for a more in-depth picture.
But I will say this:
- This game supports steam workshop
- You can create custom games and force the AI to pick a specific ship
- You can arm 16, 1992 Honda Accords all with plasma weapons on a small track
- May the last one standing win
If you ever thought about wanting Wipeout, or were a fan of Wipeout, or just wanted to know what the hype was all about -- all without getting an expensive Playstation and trying to find a copy of the games -- the experience is here. The anti-gravity rush, the driving music, the brutal conquest to grab the lead on every single track, or push the limits of a challenge -- it's all here, waiting for you to pick it up.
The curve may seem daunting, but eventually you'll settle right in and get the full feel. This is the closest you'll get to a Wipeout experience for the PC. And the team is bloody passionate in doing just that.
As someone whose only experiences with Anti-Grav racers are Wipeout HD remastered and Star Wars Episode I: Racer, i gotta say this has fulfilled me completely! For you PC AG needs, this is where it peaks.
Never grew up with Wipeout, but this game's pretty good on Steam Deck.
Most fun i have had in a racing game in a long time. Somewhat easy to get into but hard to master. A good selection of ships which all feel unique to fly. Really well made tracks which are super fun and pretty to look at. Power-ups to slow down your opponents or to take them out of the race completely. Lots of fun gamemodes (screw upsurge though). And a banger soundtrack to go with it.
And should you somehow get bored of all the content the game offers then there are tons of custom made tracks and ships to download.
If you like the old wipeout games then you will love this game. Overall a very fun and fast paced combat racer.
I'm a massive wipeout fan and was pretty excited when i saw this
iffy menu system that needs attention
my ship exploded after wall sometime during every race i tried
gutted i wasted even 12 quid on this
One of my favorite racing games of all time. I loved playing Wipeout at a younger age and this brings all those memories right back! There is definitely a skill curve once you get into the faster classes, but with enough practice you'll get it down.
Amazing. If you grew up playing WipEout, you'll feel right at home.
Insanely underrated racer. One of the best antigrav racers ever made and it has an amazing soundtrack
This game has replaced any and all desire I've had for Nintendo to make another F-Zero. The speed settings range from a casual drive up the coast to so fast you wonder if anyone can actually drive without hitting every wall. The weapons add variety and suddenness to the races, but you can also just turn them off altogether for a pure racing experience.
The campaign starts incredibly easy, and you'll more than likely get first place or top reward on most challenges, but before the end you should expect to redo challenges to improve your placements. The workshop support allows for dozens if not hundreds of really well designed custom tracks. It's super simple to make your own grand prix by just tossing in five or six tracks with a full field of up to 15 other racers. Online multiplayer is also supported via Steam or direct IP connection, so everyone can join in regardless of where they purchased the game from.
The game runs like butter, even with maxed out settings. The art style really helps this, but honestly it's something that's so infrequent in modern games I feel like it deserves its own call out. The fact that a track can be loaded in and the race started in under 5 seconds on average deserves high praise. It even has a native Linux port, something that is still surprisingly rare given the popularity of the Steam Deck..
The most WipEout game after WipEout itself. Fast ships, tight controls, endless anti-grav racing fun. If you want a game of this genre on computers, look no further: this is it.
It can be played both in retro (PSX-era aesthetics/effects) and modern graphics, it can run on quite literal potatoes (2 GB RAM minimum, when is it the last time you heard such a requirement?) and it has native builds for both Mac and Linux -- the latter works splendidly on the Steam Deck.
To sweeten the deal even more, the game has seen countless updates from the developers over the years and it is also easily moddable. What are you waiting for?
My vote: 9.5/10 + STEAM DECK RECOMMENDATION
the developers love this game like it's their child and it shows
good game me likey
Every single aspect of this game is a solid 10/10. The music is great. Controls are spot on. Native Linux build. Stunning graphics. The optimizations done for this game are nuts; I mean, I made this run on my old Chromebook. I simply cannot point out a single flaw. Truly a masterpiece.
If you enjoyed any form of WipeOut in the past this is the game to get, incredible support from both the dev side and the modding community as well
If you loved WipeOut, you'll love this.
I am going to crash into a wall at mach 2.
One of the best racing games available. Gives me the Wipeout 3 feel and the newer physics model adds an alternative like Wipeout Pulse. 10/10
This is the definition of a passion project. It's the best anti-gravity racer I tried, and the best anti-gravity combat racer as well. The feeling of speed is incredible and once you know the track and get the feel for your ship, it's just a marvel to anticipate and slide through those corners, chasing the AI, times, laps, wtv. There are tons of tracks and the workshop integration is the cherry on top. The dedication to the community and dev diaries/posts are an example. Completely recommend it, it's a MUST HAVE, one of the best games I've played, ever.
Best Ag racer on steam by far. Are you a wipeout fan? This is your game. Still being updated, bunch of content and perfect gameplay. Go and get it, you won't repent.
This is honestly the best "WipeOut" I've ever played. Snappy, responsive, great music, a varied and interesting selection of ships and tracks with great workshop support and content. If you have been craving the wipeout fusion experience on PC, this is a must
Looks and plays just like a game on the PSP I don't remember the name of.
This game is damn good and seeing the total amount of reviews obligates me into giving this one a recommend, its honestly worth more than the asking price so go play it
Reminds me of Wipeout XL.
I may have even played "We Have Explosive" in the background while playing.
Extensively customisable, blisteringly fast, tightly tuned, gloriously moddable,
and above all else; very, very, fun.
Neognosis, I love you.
This game is essentially the ultimate WipEout, in spite of it not being part of WipEout at all! It's got so much of what made WipEout great but with added parts too like the motorbikes, something I never knew I needed in a WipEout-esque game until now! If you're a fan of WipEout and have an AG Racing shaped hole in your heart, definitely check this game out! And I'd still tell you to check it out if you've never played an Anti-Gravity racer before, sure they're the people this game will appeal the most to, but you should still play it if you think it looks interesting and have never played a game like WipEout or F-Zero before!
