A great homage to PS1 games like Wipeout and Jet Moto. Runs well in VR. Has a pretty supportive community that creates custom tracks, racers, and liveries.
nyoom
If you loved WipEout you'll love this.
Total flashback to WipeOut. SO much so that it's satisfies that nostalgia perfectly. There are no alterations to the formula, obvious quality of life updates, but there is little changed from the classic inspiration. The music tracks are fitting, the controls are just as crazy, and the weapons are just as meh as the original (yeah, weapons aren't really all that special). Of course, who cares that the weapons are meh. The bread and butter to this all is the crazy racing experience. RedOut and FlashOut are nice modern takes, but BallistiCNg nailed it perfectly.
I got into Wipeout a few months ago and 100% every game in the series since - this one is a strong contender for being the best one, despite not being a part of the series despite me playing just for a few hours. It just feels right.
Blatant rip-off, but in the best way possible. Neognosis does what Sony...n't
Ship handling can take a while to get used to, but once you get familiar with them this game is very fun to play.
Easily the best Spiritual Successor to WipEout and Jet Moto, even including options to play post-F9000. Well worth the purchase. It even includes a Track Editor, something I felt was missing in the WipEout Omega Collection.
honestly one of the best racing games I've ever played
a full fledged career mode, quick race, online and even split screen local multiplayer options across a variety of game modes with workshop compatibility for adding new ships and tracks to the game beyond the vanilla package and it's DLCs.
if you enjoy arcade racing games you should get this one
Played this game off and on for about 4 years now, about time I write a review. I have no experience playing any of the games that BallisticNG is inspired by, I decided to pick up the game solely because the gameplay looked interesting. Flash forward four years, this game is the shit. I'm consistently coming back to either work on completing the game's campaigns, or just because I want to get some races in. The core race mode is what I tend to play, but the amount of different modes or ways to change how you play is absurd. And that's not even including the amount of modding support this game has.
If you're a fan of racing games and just want something that kicks ass, buy the game.
I had some money left over from a gift card, didn't want to hook up my playstation just to play the Omega Collection, and saw that this was like Classic Wipeout.
Holy hell. It's like I picked up XL for the first time again, but so much smoother. I felt right at home with it, and it still amazes me how good it feels to race. Right down to the downright brutal AI.
Very easy to mod the game, and they even have a guide for it in the documentation. I immediately went for the classic Wipeout teams without delay.
I think I saw that this was a 2 person dev team? Take a bow, both of you. This was a clear labor of love for the series it's cloning, and absolutely deserves the Overwhelmingly Positive I see on its store page.
PLEASE pick this up it's so good.
A flash back to the old Anti Gravity racing from the 90's.
Its easy to run on pretty much any hardware but still manages to catch a great look and feel.
Easy to get into and even easier for old wipeout players to just plug in a controller and zip around like you never left.
Witch a nice techno beat soundtrack you will feel right at home.
And not to forget, support for linux. A+ for that.
My recommendation for anyone looking for a fastpaced racing game.
In a 1999 interview for VH1's Behind The Music, Mark Mothersbaugh stated "I was in shock. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. He sort of re-sculpted that song into something else and... I hate him for it, basically." In reference to hearing Weird Al Yankovic's "Dare To Be Stupid".
A sentence that, I'm certain, any former Psygnosis dev would echo were they to ever play this masterpiece.
Buy it.
It's good.
What are you waiting for?
Holy Hell, You guys NAILED Wipeout!
THANK YOU!!!
cool game
Very cool Wipeout clone would definitely recommend to fans
Feels bad
A must-get for every wipEout fan
By Any Means.
I'm geeking tf out this is great
Peak, absolute peak, it's even better in VR with a controller.
An amazing anti-gravity racer with beautiful tracks and music. The scenery and tracks are such a vibe that you'd want to grind out time trials on them for hours. Custom tracks, ships, tons of official content like game modes and even a tournament generator. What a great game! Works flawlessly on steamdeck as well.
yes
Calling this game a love letter to Wipeout is an understatement. Some artistic elements are almost a direct copy-paste. The handling and camera behavior is best compared to the original Wipeout. The game is tough as nails and will challenge people only used to Pure and Pulse [me]. The soundtrack goes hard and gives me 90s flashbacks. Couldn't recommend this game enough.
Wonderful. Just like the original WipEouT games
What an absolute gem this game is. This IS a Wipeout game in every way but name, even doing it better than Wipeout at times.
The AI is brutal and unforgiving, ESPECIALLY in hardcore, but is IMMENSELY satisfying to master and overcome. Some of the highest highs i've had playing in a racing game in a LONG time, set to an absolutely amazing DnB/Breakcore/Trance OST.
I've never been a Wipeout fan; the only game I played akin to this was Quantum Redshift on the XBOX. I haven't finished BallisticNG (just moved onto other games tbqh), but I still very much enjoyed my time with it and will continue to revisit it later down the line. The physics are super fun and there's plenty of room for skilled players to be on top, but lower skilled players like me can still have plenty of fun (the game has both multiplayer and singleplayer campaigns aka there's plenty to do). I'm not crazy about the combat but that's still pretty fun. The soundtrack is banging. The developers are extremely passionate and continually update the game well past its release date.
It's a fantastic indie project whether or not you're into Wipeout-style games. If you're just looking to do some futuristic, ultra-fast racing, this is one of the best options you can pick.
This game brings back futuristic racing in a way that pays homage to and builds upon one of the giants of an underrated subgenre. Mod support means all sorts of wonderful and wacky races for days. The campaigns add variety and depth to keep people invested, even if they are not into straight racing. A soundtrack that picks up where its predecessors left off. An atmosphere that speaks to an optimistic, adrenaline-packed future. The DLC is also worth it, provided that you buy the track packs. If you want something more like F-Zero, this is not for you. If a certain other futuristic racer brings back memories or if you want a taste for what that franchise was like, this is a near-perfect recreation. A true spiritual successor in every sense.
Do not buy this game. Community is really really really fucking toxic and shitty. Emulate wipeout or play redout or SOMETHING but for the love of god do not give those people money.
Also there's a massive difficulty spike around 1/3rd of the way through the campaign that will stop you dead in your tracks. Poor game design if you ask me.
I platinumed Wipeout HD on PS3 and beat Zico before the Fury update.
I used to be top 200 in the time trials and zone scores in WipEout HD/Fury.
My favourite game is Wipeout. So I was enthusiastic about this and I really like it.
But the difficulty isn't just about skill in BallisticNG, it's also about beating impossible odds and being OK with it, with how much frustration and punishment you're ready to take. Even the smoothest racing won't make a difference with AI, and even the "afterburner" doesn't make a real difference in races. This is an elitist take on difficulty and sometimes it comes in the way of enjoying the game, be prepared.
There is hardly any curve to it and it ramps up to twelve hundred after the first campaign's speed class.
The AI will tease you, stay right in front of you but will have a "mirage", "moving the goalpost" effect. You can't catch up, and if you do, a single mistake will leave you overtaken by the whole pack all at once. Only by using the afterburner right at the end of a PERFECT run can you edge the AI. It's also a bad point that you can lay back, which makes the AI stick in a bunch, and just speed up at the last moment to win. Collision with other ships will slow you down more than walls which can and will frustrate. You cannot, and I mean CANNOT distance AI in this game, however perfect your handling and use of the afterburner. One single scrap on a wall will have AI make a sudden come-back. It's always there, so it adapts to your level or so it seems.
This makes good ideas like the race in which shield depletes according to your position difficult to enjoy to its full potential, simply because, in the end, it's the same as the one where you have to stay in pole position to not get eliminated, only tweaked, only it's less forgiving.
There is a lack of polish in places, even if the feat is incredible for a 2 people team. Some harsh corners will make the camera clip through geometry, right before a sloping three-swerve chicane, so there is no visibility. Great feeling when you know the track by heart after a couple hours.
There are baffling UI design choices like leaderboards mid race, which is strange enough, but add that to the fact they are allocated to the stick you're using for handling. Hard to get it to stop doing that once and for all, even after toggling many times in the settings (and yes, "saving").
However, the presentation is great, the depth of gameplay and possibilities, mind-boggling. It's a punishing experience that shows it's a labour of love, but if you're allergic to bullshit you might stick to time trial and take time to find the sweet spot with speed.
I intend to spend many years playing this game, like I did with all Wipeout titles.
The only good WipEout-inspired game. A labor of love full of content and configuration.
Before you scroll past - I do think this game is genuinely good. It's got a great visual style, good music, and solid gameplay, but it just feels a bit too...*hard*. Turns feel way too tight and the ships all feel either way too *fast* and I'll constantly hit corners out of control, or it's too damn slow and even using afterburner won't catch me up with the 7th guy in the 8-man race.
Initially, I would have recommended this game, but after the second or third event set in the game, the difficulty feels like it spikes way too hard, way too fast. Airbraking feels clumsy and pretty generally the ships feel impossible to control the faster you go. A compromise, perhaps, but I dunno. Consider me filtered, I really wanted to like this game more but past a certain echelon of play I start losing more and more ground.
pretty fun even if you never played wipeout games. hell it's giving me flashbacks to episode 1 racer on the pc somehow. the vr made me so so sick
This game is just behind MX vs ATV Reflex as my favorite racing game.
The gameplay is top tier for a racing game, especially on expert difficulty; almost every race closes in toward the end. It has a retro look, reminiscent of PS2 graphics, with a fast paced soundtrack that matches perfectly with the gamepay.
Get this if you are looking for fast paced fun, a spongebob dance episode soundtrack, and are itching for a PS2-like game.
Otherwise, stick to Mario Kart luh twin
I love this game. It feels so much like the old Wipeout games; great handling, great sound, really nice throw-back graphics. Takes me back 30 years when I played the original Wipeout and later, Wipeout 2097 non-stop until I got good. Great times.
This game gets it right when it comes to modern ag racing games, and it's my favorite of them all.
This is Wipeout in everything but name. If you have any love for that series, especially the PS1 era, BallisticNG is a must.
Really good high speed racing game. The game runs great it feels like the a true successor to the original wipeout racing game on ps1.
9/10 wipeout retro arcade racer
0/10 menu readability and navigation is absolute dog shit
The unvarnished reality is I've found myself thinking I want to play and then remember the menus and don't play. It's such an unpleasant chore I'm eyeing that 1.2 hours in game thinking about a refund, which seems so weird because when in a race, it's good.
What a specifically on purpose unnecessary self own from cloyingly trying too hard to be cool. The game doesn't remember my controller, I have to clumsily navigate to fiddling with swapping controller input a couple times anew, every time I open the game to play. And even then basic things like B = back doesn't work.
I don't want to give an otherwise solid effort from a small team a bad mark, but at the same time the total experience of engaging with the game is so off putting I can't recommend the experience in good faith.
Maybe someone made a mod to fix the menu/controller interface/navigation?
hitting corners is actively encouraged
this game is for the freaks that love wipeout and AG racers. i am a freak
This is by far the best anti gravity racer I've ever played. It's got a retro aesthetic with modern feeling and mastering the controls is something that will keep me playing all the more! I can't wait to see what's next from this studio.
Fantastic game. If you enjoyed wipe out at all buy it!
wipeout if it was nothing but hits all the time
Much better than Wipeout 3 back then. Love it.
I haven't had this game for that long, but I can give this a solid recommend. if your not a fan of racing games, like me, because you feel they are to slow and physics is holding you back. give this game a go. even on lower difficulties its much faster than other racing games. once you know the controls the controller will end up becoming an extension of your own body. easy to learn, but with a high skill ceiling. one of my main draws to this game was the modding and workshop support it promotes, and while I haven't tried using mods yet, but as a 3d artist I cant wait to give making my own racer a go.
This game fulfils my lust for a high speed game I can just jump into casually without having to dedicate insane amounts of time too, but also the ability to spend ages mastering it.
I must go fast. I MUST GO FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very much a love letter to the WipEout games, this is a fun little racer. It gets hard! Or else my reflexes aren't what they were 25 years ago.
Simply put, If you are missing a huge wipeout shaped hole in your heart like i do, then this is likely the game for you. It does everything i loved about that series perfectly, plus add a few twists of it's own. This game is a big win in my book, great price, tons of content, great techno music, all wrapped up in an expertly done anti gravity racing and action game.
I was introduced to AG racers with Wipeout 2048 on the Vita. I've been looking for something to scratch that itch, and BallisticNG was the overwhelming recommendation from Wipeout fans. I expected this game to be good, but it really, really is exactly what I was looking for and more. It is absolutely worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre.
I don't usually put a review on a game so quickly, but here we go.
I like it, I recommend it; it knows its audience.
If you've scrolled down far enough to look at the reviews, just buy it; it's the experience you're chasing.
A nice love letter to Wipeout.
Got this game about 6 months ago. Today, i 100%ed it. Probably one of the only games i have that i remember actively playing this year.
The racing is delightfully fast, the graphics are nicely cohesive and stylized, the soundtrack is massive... What's not to like? There's also a decently large modding scene, making a plethora of high-quality tracks and ships for exactly 0 extra cost.
The DLCs are also a must, the content in them is very high quality and give the singleplayer campaign a hell of a lot more longevity, along with exploring interesting gameplay concepts.
If AG Racers are your taste at all, this is a must-buy.
this is epic
