this game is for the freaks that love wipeout and AG racers. i am a freak
This is by far the best anti gravity racer I've ever played. It's got a retro aesthetic with modern feeling and mastering the controls is something that will keep me playing all the more! I can't wait to see what's next from this studio.
Fantastic game. If you enjoyed wipe out at all buy it!
wipeout if it was nothing but hits all the time
Much better than Wipeout 3 back then. Love it.
I haven't had this game for that long, but I can give this a solid recommend. if your not a fan of racing games, like me, because you feel they are to slow and physics is holding you back. give this game a go. even on lower difficulties its much faster than other racing games. once you know the controls the controller will end up becoming an extension of your own body. easy to learn, but with a high skill ceiling. one of my main draws to this game was the modding and workshop support it promotes, and while I haven't tried using mods yet, but as a 3d artist I cant wait to give making my own racer a go.
This game fulfils my lust for a high speed game I can just jump into casually without having to dedicate insane amounts of time too, but also the ability to spend ages mastering it.
I must go fast. I MUST GO FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very much a love letter to the WipEout games, this is a fun little racer. It gets hard! Or else my reflexes aren't what they were 25 years ago.
Simply put, If you are missing a huge wipeout shaped hole in your heart like i do, then this is likely the game for you. It does everything i loved about that series perfectly, plus add a few twists of it's own. This game is a big win in my book, great price, tons of content, great techno music, all wrapped up in an expertly done anti gravity racing and action game.
I was introduced to AG racers with Wipeout 2048 on the Vita. I've been looking for something to scratch that itch, and BallisticNG was the overwhelming recommendation from Wipeout fans. I expected this game to be good, but it really, really is exactly what I was looking for and more. It is absolutely worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre.
I don't usually put a review on a game so quickly, but here we go.
I like it, I recommend it; it knows its audience.
If you've scrolled down far enough to look at the reviews, just buy it; it's the experience you're chasing.
A nice love letter to Wipeout.
Got this game about 6 months ago. Today, i 100%ed it. Probably one of the only games i have that i remember actively playing this year.
The racing is delightfully fast, the graphics are nicely cohesive and stylized, the soundtrack is massive... What's not to like? There's also a decently large modding scene, making a plethora of high-quality tracks and ships for exactly 0 extra cost.
The DLCs are also a must, the content in them is very high quality and give the singleplayer campaign a hell of a lot more longevity, along with exploring interesting gameplay concepts.
If AG Racers are your taste at all, this is a must-buy.
this is epic
Basically Wipeout
I bought this game for the soundtrack alone, which is excellent. Although I wanted to support the authors' dedication, too. Since it was on my computer (which isn't meant to play video games), I decided to just try it, since I had no idea whether it would run or not.
Turns out, it will run pretty well if I set the graphics settings low enough. (It's a stock Lenovo X220 laptop with Windows 10 installed. This has 8 GB RAM, Intel Core i5 processor running at 2.6 Ghz, integrated graphics.) Races where there's a full grid racing, the framerate can drop to about 20 or less on busy tracks, so I can't play much of it. But it's fun when my computer can process what's going on.
I played WipEout about 20 years ago, when it was available to rent from video stores. I still have the save file on one of my memory cards. The steering in the racing here is akin to driving a motorboat. But you get the hang of it, especially after playing the survival mode—going lap after lap, faster and faster. One of the things I experienced is that the chasing view cameras aren't perfectly aligned with the nose of the ship, so you have to give a little attention to where the ship nose is pointing if you're not in the cockpit or nose view, otherwise you'll steer beyond where you wanted to go, which will usually end with greeting a wall. (Seems as if the inertial forces that would act on car steering do not exist, which is thematic with the anti-gravity theme. Because of this you have to steer, and then, correct your steering. I'm going to try playing with a control stick to see if this is due to me playing with buttons or not.) But the interruption of hitting the track walls does not last for long, because the game is fast. I'm sure that it would be faster if I had an appropriate computer to play it with!
------------------
I'm amending this review to mention that after reducing the resolution to about 900 x 480, it runs pretty smoothly—never going below 30 frames per second, and more often at around 40-50 than not.
Additionally, it was like I suspected: the boats are much easier to control when using some kind of analog stick, instead of buttons.
I have had this game for a year and played it for an hour and a half. Thankfully I didn't pay much but, still not worth it if you don't like it!
Hidden gem! Great music, striking scenes with good design. The only thing that I feel could be improved in the game is the UI, which during the race makes it a little difficult to identify which lap I am in and what position. I miss a graphical demonstration of the ships on the points score or on the final screen of a tournament (One of the things I like most about racing games is the end where my character/vehicle is highlighted among all the competitors).
Overall, very good game! Even though I've never got in touch with the Wipeout franchise
It's Wipeout PSX.
It isnt LIKE Wipeout PSX.
It IS Wipeout PSX
+Mods (Tracks)
+Mods (Ships)
+Mods (Liveries)
Some classic arcade fun. And tons of great content on the workshop.
woah
I love everything about this wipeout racer! The music is great, controls feel nice, just overall a fun racing game!
👍👍
Holy shit this game's difficulty is all over the fucking wall
Cool style
Fast gameplay
Airbrakes not intuitive - More like drift buttons than airbrakes
Portably encapsulates the human yearning for speed apropos the tantalisingly escapable* suffering of our corporeal confinement.
* With enough momentum or a deeply felt desire to pursue the Millian, utilitarian good.
A potentially great successor to Wipeout, ruined by poor steering mechanics that are ill equipped to handle the game's increasing speed.
I really wanted to like this game, and I did early on in the campaign mode, as the early campaign is no problem to beat. Later on however, the default game speed increases in the campaign so much as to reveal a glaring flaw with the game's steering mechanics simply not being able to keep up to the point where you'll be running into walls with nearly every turn. I've tried every options setting suggested in the forums and more, but none alleviate the awful steering, especially in the face of increasing speed that leaves little time to react. The design of the later tracks having poorly telegraphed turns doesn't help either. The reaction and reflexes expected from players becomes absurd.
If you're looking for the next good future racer, look elsewhere for a game that isn't ruined by steering and speed mechanics that were taken way too far.
The WipEout that Sony wishes it could make.
i want to kill my grandpa
the levels, the music, the vibe. it's all here
Oh, hey. This game has VR support.
* hooks up VR *
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!11!!1!!!one!!1!!
Best anti-gravity racer out there and one of the best games ive ever played. Lots of mods to use for tracks and ships and also easy to make for too. Very rewarding and satisfying. The new 2280 ships with the updated physics are very nice and a lot of fun.
Game is game, there is game play to be played
In. Credible. If you're a fan of the classic WipEout anti-gravity racing series, this is a must buy. That's what this is. WipEout XL/3 and it's amazing. Very fast by default, I guess my only issue with it is that there's no slower speeds to get started(not that I need it personally..), just sometimes it's fun to race a bit slower. Anyway, it's amazing, always constantly updated, even now, with new content, DLC packs are awesome and cheap, Workshop adds TONS of tracks, many from the WipEout series.. it scratches that wipEout itch perfectly. This is it.
Before I begin to gush about how amazing this game really is, buy it. Now. You won't regret your purchase. Mac, Linux, or Windows, doesn't matter, it runs like a dream, plays like a dream, and has a glut of content and workshop stuff to keep you busy.
You want Wipeout? Forget Redout, Pacer, or any of the other games that purport to be the "definitive futuristic racing game".
This is as close to Wipeout 2097/3 that you can get, period. The physics are spot on, feel good, and most of all, PERFECT. The graphics can feel like the retro games of old, but with a few tweaks, can look like a modern interpretation of the original art styling from the Wipeout games of old, with pretty great effects to boot. The tracks, while nothing like the old games, are still freaking fantastic to race on, feeling familiar yet improved across the board.
GET THIS GAME. The devs continuously update it with new content, fresh UI ideas, and now with an updated physics engine to boot, there's just SO MUCH here to chew threw. Plus, there's hover bikes now.
It's peak
This is a game that uses a retro look to it's advantage, allowing players to set their in race appearance to either have a more retro look, or give it a more modern look (this will be especially true when the 2280 Ship Variants come out (if they have not by the time someone reads this)), this game has gameplay like that of WipEout, with the 2159 ships having a very weird but good and interesting airbrake mechanic once learned, as well as having a mechanic where you can trade shielding for more speed (which you will need to use at times) which is also a very interesting. there is additionally a large variety of tracks to play, modes like elimination, races, time-trials, and survival; and Sub-modes like Drag-races and precision trials for those that want to go through precision hell.
the main campaign that i have played so far is pretty good, with almost half of the campaign complete i can say... it's like a retro game, that i mean that the game after the "breeze" section being given a difficulty spike that will quickly try to make you get used to using the pitching on luna if you want to get more than a bronze medal in its time trial, yes unlike the newer titles of WipEout for the most part (i do not know if older titles make you use the pitching mechanic if it was present) where pitching the vehicle is more of a get higher records than a get best medals, this game actually makes you use pitching... which is what i like about this game, apart from how soon into the game it makes you do it. additionally, with the difficulty spike the time trials can be a bit insane for some after "Breeze", apart from that the pacing of the difficulty is fair, if not a bit of a difficulty spike but manageable.
finally the layout creator was something that i thought could make fully fledged tracks without any decorational objects, however this is not the case, which is kind of sad especially since i do not have the wish to download and use another game engine to make tracks and it should be easy enough to put the weapon pad, boost pad, and pit-stop lanes into the layout editor with it's current tech, though this is fine as it is clear that it should (Hopefully) be easy enough to make tracks when i decide to get the Unity game engine.
overall, this game is very fun and very good for those who either want the older WipEout experience, or for those who want a good and (VERY) moddable AG Racing game. and though some aspects could be improved, the overall experience is very good, and is still being updated even as of this is being posted.
Terrible controls from another age.
VR Controllers are NOT supported, it only supports VR viewing.
Played Wip3out Pure on the PSP, and now i have it on my PC. Goated game will spend my life savings on all DLC
peak
I've owned this game for 4 hours and been playing it for 3 hours, then spent the other 30 minutes installing mods. A couple of Chemical Brothers, Prodigy and other breakbeat & Acid techno MP3s later, I feel right at home. I know damn well Imma be playing more of this tomorrow.
Also never heard of a game that actually suggested I play on the lowest settings, before. thanks devs, this is the Wip3out successor I've always wanted. :D
BY ANY MEANS
Even after the game session my heart still pumping for all that drive and speed and style.
Every bit of it seems like a labor of love and STYLE and I love it.
Great zero g combat racing- brings me back to Wipeout days :D
Taken me awhile to find such a golden racing game however here it is.
Has more features and options than most development teams can dream in a life-time.
Mod support and dare I say even the Mod Authors sense of quality are top-tier on Steam.
And is still getting (huge) updates after all these years; that's the mark of a legend in my book.
What more could you want? This racing game has it all; can even change the behavior of hovering.
I'm still learning what this game has to offer as it's my first foray into this sub-genre.
However as I continue to grow and become more skilled at racing here; I expect I will try out more features.
Yet I'm already a satisfied customer on initial entry of features, mods, courses, difficulty, aesthetics, and beyond.
Support this game and add this solid racing product to your game collection. Well worth it.
This game is absolutely something else. For starters, the barrier for entry is really low, but the skill ceiling is a mile high. The effort you put into this game pays off in dividends. The feeling of running perfect laps in Zen speeds (comparative to Phantom in Wipeout) is like nothing else out there, and it's equally impressive to watch. This is a game that when you're good at it, it's something you can be proud of. On the flip side, even if you just want to run through the many campaigns, the devs have crafted hours and hours of content for people to chew on. You can take this game as casually, or as seriously, as you want and get something from it. There is a ton of track variety, different modes, multiplayer (including split-screen!) and a ton of custom tracks out there people have made. Also, this game is much easier to mod than most other games and the devs highly encourage it. From dragging and dropping audio files for both music and all of the games announcements and sound effects, to a baked-in and comprehensive track builder, it can't be beat. You can even import custom ship skins and they've made .psd templates available to make it that much easier.
Vonsnake and crew have created something special. If you like racing games, you owe it to yourself to give BallisticNG a try. This is not just a love letter to Wipeout. This is a creation that can stand on its own merits and will give you something grow on and play for years and years to come.
This game has so much love put it in for a criminally low price. It holds true to so many aspects of old games of this genre and brings features that we all wished we had back during those times. The option to set the graphics to replicate those of a PSX system is such a good feature.
The music is great, all the base game race tracks are fantastic, the selection of vessels is also well-varied.
It deserves a much higher player base than it has now.
Online multiplayer only has 2 gamemodes available. If you want to get this game to play it online with your friends, I cannot recommend until all the multiplayer gamemodes are available in online play. Very disappointing from an otherwise great game.
As a massive fan of the original 3 Wipeout's this game is as close as you can get to playing them again. The custom track and ship support for this game is a must for any Wipeout fan. I love this game so much and the Dev's for making it.
Great game, feels great to play and is very fast. It feels a lot like a modern version of Wipeout 64, but also better in many ways. 10/10 would recommend.
If you love Wipeout, you're gonna f*cking love this, simple as that!
9/10
