Bright Memory - 2025 review
Bright Memory: Infinite is a visually stunning, fast-paced FPS that excels in delivering intense action and smooth gameplay. However, the overall experience is marred by significant flaws, resulting in a game that feels more like a tech demo than a fully realized title. After three playthroughs, I found that its negatives definitely overshadow the positives.
Pros
- The game’s core strength lies in its gameplay. The seamless combination of gunplay, melee combat, and special abilities creates an adrenaline-pumping experience. The combat is fast-paced, responsive, and highly satisfying, making the game’s brief runtime feel action-packed.
- Developed by a solo creator, the level of graphical fidelity achieved here is nothing short of remarkable. Rich textures, satisfying animations, and impressive environmental effects contribute to one of the most visually striking FPS titles in recent memory.
- Despite its demanding visuals, the game runs smoothly on high settings, maintaining a stable frame rate of 90-100 FPS. This technical stability ensures that players can fully enjoy the fluid combat without interruption.

Very short game but solid gameplay and impressive graphics. Some aspects of mechanics or movement are slightly clunky but the game is overall an enjoyable experience, 8/10.

This is a single episode game with two mini-bosses. It will wake you around 30 to 40 minutes to complete even if you don't know wtf your are doing or wth is going on. The ending is very abrupt with achievements luring you to play for a second and a third time.
The game might look cool on the pictures but once you start it you can see it is below average, It gave me the impression of a product with newer technology, but it is very janky and doesn't work well compared to an older premium product (old AAA games). The faces and the water fall were the worst looking parts.
Gameplay wise it was ok, you have few skills like EMP and Energy blade latter of which is terribly bound to E key that you can't change as they abandoned this game and moved on to "Bright Memory: Infinity" so don't expect it to change even if it says in the game that it will. Other than that, you are presented with few upgrades and few new skills, but you will high likely not unlock them in you first run as that game is THAT short.
Enemy attack patterns, including "bosses", are very bland, this means all you do is dodge and spray bullets on the enemies without any interesting mechanics.
This game at the end of the day is just a tech demo that should be made free as they released the actual game "Bright Memory: Infinity" (Although I haven't played that one nor plan to after experiencing this).
Don't buy it, even at a discount. It is not worth you 40 minutes.

Good game, 10/10 for $8 if only dev fix the shaking during light blade and emp.
The graphics are absolutely astonishing! Sadly can't say the same concerning the others aspects. It's a short game you'll finish under an hour. The achievement aren't that hard if it's just that you'll have to finish the game three times. The game isn't hard and note that the AI sometimes just don't work properly and begins either to follow you or stop completely from moving which makes them free targets.
I have not played many games like this but reminded me of a Chinese FPS arcade game from the early/mid 2000's in an actual arcade but with a bit more control. With the similar idea/animation cut scene style of waves of enemies spawning and a few bosses throughout a run. It was maybe 30ish minutes long and playing through it a couple of times to get all of the unlocks. Cool idea and it is worth it on sale for a couple dollars. I could see why people might be bummed grabbing it full price for how short it is but it was fun. I had never heard of it before but just saw it from a friend on my steam activity feed the other day which peaked my interest for a short run game. I guess its a prep for Bright Memory Infinite which I am hoping will be a full version of this to continue with.

Desarrollado por un solo individuo (Zeng Xian Cheng bajo el alias "FYQD-Studio) y publicado por PLAYISM, Bright Memory es un shooter frenético en primera persona de muy (muy!) corta duración, siendo éste su mayor pecado.
No reinventa la rueda pero es efectivo en términos de ritmo y acción, aunque el sistema de experiencia y habilidades sobra bastante. Es a grandes rasgos una demo de lo que un año después conoceríamos como Bright Memory: Infinite.
Sorprende ver que sea el trabajo de una sola persona, goza de escenarios preciosos y un estilo estético refinado aunque genérico. La historia es absurdamente sencilla, nada nuevo, pero esto es tan solo una introducción, la verdadera experiencia está en su secuela (Que aún no tuve la oportunidad de probar).
Apunta muy alto y sorprende lo mucho que logra, aún así se le nota lo precario en términos de kinestesia y puzles, si es que se les puede llamar así, ya que los únicos acertijos son insultantemente sencillos, hasta el grado de tener la solución a dos pasos. Aún así, creo que esta precariedad aporta a la belleza de ser un producto independiente parido por un aficionado con mero amor al arte, y con tan poco logra muchísimo más que la inmensa mayoría de grandes producciones AAA.
Además la protagonista está muy linda, y eso se agradece, en especial con la reciente tendencia de introducir protagonistas físicamente desagraciados (Entendiendo que no soy ningún Adonis).
¿En conclusión? Me gustó la chica. Y el juego también.
Man, I do want to like this game, but it controls like absolute shit. It took me 35 minutes to beat and around 25 for my second run. It really shines in some spots, especially with its pacing and stylish combat, but it falls short in so many areas that just isn't excusable, even for a single person dev team.
I'd say the worst parts are the controls, they're so bloated and abysmal that I really can't recommend this game to anyone due to the mere fact that controlling it is a nightmare. This game is also littered with bugs, both in combat and out. I don't know whether it's a bug or just the horrid sound design, but without the generic music blaring, the sound effects are some of the worst I've ever heard, oftentimes pretty obviously. Weapons will sometimes not fire, reload animations are bugged, and the game looks really bad in a lot of ways, cutting in and out, especially whenever a blood splatter shows up on the screen.
Bright Memory looks fantastic and the action is strong!
Great short intro to the main game. I bought this awhile ago and it seems I got Bright Memory Infinite for free once it came out. Im going to play that now. This was a good game, and enjoyable to play. The controls are pretty good, and graphics/sound are great. It plays on UWS just fine natively, 3440x1440. The tutorial shows you how to play, and everything is well explained. I had no trouble picking up on how to play it, and I completed it in under 1 hour. Thirteen deaths. At the end it tells you some stats, and you can then try it again. It a good first person shooter, done very well and it was made by one person. Its better than other games ive played made by big teams.
Youre buying a tech demo, unless its on discount you shouldn't buy it
Thoughts After 100%:
Things I Like:
-Short, fun packed fps.
-100% in only three runs, one whole session,
-Combat revolving around fast pace action, creating combos, and juggling enemies.
-Slight Increase in difficulty with every ng+ run, with the option to start fresh.
-Challenging but fun boss fights.
-Fun abilities that can be upgraded.
-Collectibles are extremely easy to find.
-Surprisingly stunning graphics even on lower settings.
Things I Didn't Like:
-The button optimization is not the greatest on keyboard and mouse, the fluidity of combat would greatly benefit from custom keybinds. (Devs are working on this)
-The sub weapons, the shotgun and pistol, pack almost no punch and feels like i'm slapping the enemy with a wet napkin; though this could be from improper usage, the main automatic weapon feels as though it does more damage, has a better rate of fire, and is far far better at being able to keep combos when simply paired with the sword and smart reloads.
Things I Don't Care For Either Way:
-There are alternate costumes for Sheila, this didn't really do anything for me as i didn't change my outfit, though i'm sure some players will enjoy the choice.
-The Story is mostly just there, we hear of multiple characters and never meet them, the main villain is a bad guy for the sake of being a bad guy; most of the story telling is given through vague exposition that doesn't lead to much. But I played this game because it looked fun, not for the wow-ing story, so it will be a moot point for most i feel.
Overall Thoughts And Rating:
If you're looking to buy this game or you're on the fence about it, I would strongly recommend it even if it's not exactly to your taste. If you're like me and simply want to have fun and farm dopamine from your brain while playing games, give this one a shot, you won't regret it. If you can get it on sale I would recommend it due to it's length, but full price is well worth it.

ok so first things first this game is short, like really short however you won't fell it's length to be an issue because you are going to die a lot in this game. is that a skill issue probably but the enemies in this game will really mess you up real fast. However, this game has one of the best combat system of any FPS i have played. Overall a 9/10. much recommended
Don’t bother buying and playing this game. This studio made a better game out of this one. Go look up, “Bright Memory: Infinite.” Otherwise if you’re bored, this short game is worth it when it goes on sale.

Bright Memory is an 1 Episode game with two sub-bosses named "Lost Forest Lord" and "God of War -Xing Tian", created by a solo developer (he admitted of using stolen assets for enemies in starting).
Bright memory is a 35 minute demo game which does atmosphere, gameplay fine but as soon as you get hang of it, it ends.
Later developer with his team released Bright Memory Infinite, instead of continuing (Episode 2 and on), he remade the whole thing. Even that thing is short at 100 minutes.
Don't Recommend any of both.
btw, Steam allows refund before 2 hours of play on any game. You can do whatever you wanna do with this info.
30 Minutes of jank. Severed Steel showed me how good and lengthy a solo dev FPS could be, and I played that first so this one was really disappointing.
Originally intended to be the first episode in a game with multiple episodes, this tech demo was eventually abandoned in favour of the "full-length replacement" that is Bright Memory: Infinite. In reality, however, the two games only share some elements (cast, some enemies, and some of the gameplay elements).
That development leaves this original Bright Memory as a short tech demo that explores visuals as well as gameplay elements that would eventually come to be more realized in Bright Memory: Infinite.
Bright Memory is quite short, especially if you get the hang of its combat loop and abilities quickly, and can be finished at around 30 minutes for regular FPS players.
If you want a short and quick experience, or want to see where its mostly one-man creator FYQD-Studio began, and what impressed the media and gaming industry at the time for them to support the creator to eventually created Bright Memory: Infinitie, then this is something for you. But if you don't care about either, then Bright Memory has nothing to really offer you other than a short but ultimately forgettable experience that you can experience in one sitting.

Summary: For an unrecognized series or developer, I was pretty impressed with this short version of the actual game. I cannot, in good conciense, rate it any higher than this because it felt more like a beta or prototype than a game. Definitely can't wait to dive right into the next one.
It's quite fun, it really looks like a ripoff of Tomb Raider + Dark Souls, but it's still nice and playable.
Now, when I finished the game in 25mn, I was wondering if this was for real? Probably the shortest game I own/have ever played.
Not a fan of having key-binds not be changeable, but that's me. Fun ideas, fun time, definitely needs some polish. I'll probably give the sequel a chance, since I think the vision is there though. As for this one, overall I'm pretty middle of the road on it personally. But as a proof of concept at a cheap price; my opinion leans more positive. Hard to sum it up honestly, so I'll just say a non-IGN 6/10 (so it's above average) but not by much. If the ideas are executed better with more polish in the sequel I can see that easily being a 8 or 9.

This wasn't a game. This was a tech demo, an impressive tech demo with decently fun gameplay, sure, but one hour of gameplay is not worth the price of admission.
For the couple dollars this is selling for. IT IS AND WAS SO WITH IT! When I say I wanted an unreal engine FPS this is it. The combos you can test out in this demo is more than youd expect, the weapons all feel great, the visuals is what really tops the cake as its just stunning in every way. The impacts, the environment, and the enemies just oozes with quality. Hell it even runs smooth. sure there are a few issues you can run into and the story is hard to really understand (Esecially in Infinite), But its the fighting that sucks you in.

Bright Memory is honestly one of the craziest games I’ve ever seen, especially when you realize it was made by just one guy. That’s right, a solo "one-man development studio FYQD" built this entire game, which is kind of mind-blowing. The gameplay is like a mix of Doom and Devil May Cry but set in this futuristic, supernatural world. You’re constantly swapping between guns, a sword, and all these cool special abilities, which makes the combat feel super fast and just awesome.

Have nothing negative to say per se. The game's very short, can be beaten in an hour give or take. Grab the game on sale. There are things to do after beating the game. But you'd be better off just getting BM infinite.
Tried the game 4 years later, thought they'd fixed the problems. They did not! Loads of input problems like navigating the menus or not being able to adjust vertical sensitivity. As a pc player i like to navigate menus with a mouse but using both inputs just does not work correctly to the point where you can't even exit the game correctly. Tons of little things. Just needs fine tuning on so many levels. Gameplay elements don't feel natural, you lose the momentum, have to start te section again because you fell like an idiot and are forced to listen to the same audio speech again. It's just so annoying. Just can't enjoy it. I Really want to, i think it has potential. Fix the problems and i will give it a thumbs up. Fine tuning is the two key words! Until then - NO
An intriguing game demo/ proof of concept, that does a lot right. The setting and graphics are the games strongest point, the combat and mechanics are a bit clunky, but there is some fun to be had. The mythological elements are stronger in this version than in the 'Infinite' version, I really enjoyed the ruined tomb section and would have like to see that more in the updated version. In Parts this series reminds me of Perfect Dark, which is a series that has been sadly MIA for a long long time. It would be nice to have something to fill that gap.
In the future, I hope we get a full game release of this setting and characters.

Keep in mind that basically 1 dude made this by himself. He learned the skills and knowledge required and made a short demo as a proof of concept, all by himself. That's wild and commendable. Yeah, it has issues and feels like I'm playing an arcade game (feels like a Time Crisis arcade game), but one dude made this himself. It's a demo and a successful proof of concept. I look forward to Bright Memory: Infinite next.
Honestly, don't bother buying this. Just buy the real game.

I know this is the demo version but it was one of the few demos that was actually pretty fun and not a demo where you just walk around and just look at graphics. Definitely try this demo out because the full game is out and I will be playing that soon as well. Nice hack and slash and has a bit of a challenge with a linear puzzle built in game to keep your attention.

Highly recommend getting this on sale, as a first run can easily be under an hour.
