DO NOT INSTALL AND ACCEPT THE EULA UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
A Recent update to this game has updated the EULA that if accepted gives Gearbox/2K access to:
- Root level access to your machine under the guise of "anticheat" software
- Your IP Address
- Personal information including your phone number, email and address
Refusing the EULA breaks mods and cuts off netplay in a 10+ year old game. This invasive update effectively turns the game into Spyware and I encourage others to report the game to Steam for this disgusting invasion of privacy.

All this data being collected by a company who's CEO was accused of leaving a USB with illegal material on it as well as sensitive data of Gearbox/2K partners in a medieval themed restaurant, and were supposed to just give in to these absurd terms of service?
Updating a single player game to collect my personal data? No thanks, game is uninstalled and will remain that way forever
Valve really should make it to where if a game changes their EULA decades later we should be entitled to a full refund of what we paid for it because this is insane that they can make such changes to the EULA years later and if we don't agree to the new eula YEARS later we cant play?
With the change in the EULA, this game is now unplayable as I will not consent to those changes. Steam Should provide/allow refunds when the terms and conditions under which a game was purchased are changed so drastically and there is little to no recourse.
With this many hours on this version of the game, I can honestly say the game is great. But here we are again with some greedy, deceitful company ruining a franchise because of a contract between a user of the product. As a consumer I should have them agree to my terms as well as agree to theirs. There is no opt out options for terms anymore and it’s just become a terrible way to say we don’t care about your rights. The gaming industry is dying and it’s because of stupid choices like this.
It should be illegal to change terms of service or user agreements on a non live service game after years from release with exception to new DLCs or new content. Terms of service used to be about reserving the copyrights and intellectual property of a business and its artists. Now its just about being able to sue as many people as possible for as much money as possible.

I love this game, but i do not love the idea of all my information being open access for them!
Developer wants to datamine your machine and this shit isn't even competitive. Eat my ass.
Don't buy this game.
This game is spyware with root-level access to your computer, avoid at all cost.
Do not buy this game unless you want to give Gearbox/2k full, unrestricted access to your entire computer.

Root level access to your machine under the guise of "anticheat" software

This review will not change till the spyware is removed permanently
I have loved Borderlands 1&2 (mostly the second) with a few friends of mine back in the day and I thought about making a review in the future. Unfortunately, that has changed due to Take-two and 2K games have updated their games, even their titles that were affected with their new ToS recently. I didn't notice when it came out until people start spreading the news about it which unsurprisingly as I found out about it, I felt like this is the one that will only shatter Take-two and 2K games reputation even further as a whole. Hell, I feel like this will also negatively affect games owned by Take-two, 2K games and the majority of games made by Gearbox. Right, about their new ToS...
The abominations with their new ToS.
What does it do, right? Well, People will get banned by using mods, doing cheats/exploits, swearing in text or voice chat (and saying shit about Gearbox and their CEO), and using a VPN when connecting to online servers. Oh no, this is not the worst part about their new ToS...it's also literally fucking spyware which I may as well conclude that people who are playing any of Take-two, 2K games and most of Gearbox games will not be safe from being spied on, especially collecting several set of datas that I personally will not allow from those untrustworthy companies to sell my information to them in any regards. There are plenty more things so wrong about this which I suggest you look at other reviews or videos about it for yourself. Anyway, People already knew how really bad this update is and why it needs to be reverted back since this is so completely unnecessary and really dumb on Take-two's behalf. I doubt it will change as if there's not enough people talking and standing up against their new ToS.
Do I still recommend-
No, I do not recommend this game nowadays. I really would have if it wasn't for this new ToS but, Not anymore. Do yourself a favor and avoid not only the Borderlands series but every other games like Take-two, 2K games and Gearbox that are affected with their new ToS like a plague. This ToS needs to be reverted or otherwise, this will put the final nail in the coffin for the series and the companies involved as a whole. I hope Borderlands 4 flops when it comes out. Would be pretty funny as if they apply their new ToS on that game and suffer as a result.
This is a spyware program. DO NOT PLAY OR PURCHASE.
Love this game, but they've become actual thieves.
The updated ToS says that they'll sell your data including your IP address and password. I hate that one of my favorite games is basically malware now. I played this a ton on Playstation and just started to get back into playing it on PC, but oh well. Can't anymore. I will be uninstalling this game and will leave it uninstalled unless they change their ToS. All around, just a shitty situation.
Man... I absolutely LOOOOOVE this game BUT if you're going to spy on your consumers who just want to enjoy a absolute classic, that's messed up dude.... especially with how old these older titles are man... I've been playing recently again and to find out about this crap, I HATE to say this... I'm sadly going to have to uninstall it until further notice...
Will not be opening or installing it until that TOS is either reverted, revised, or entirely removed. It's utter dogwater.
Man i love when companies ask to collect more info than needed and ban people from using mods/vpn, bugs, exploits or glitches on a game that does not get any more content. Best way to keep a community alive!! Now being serious, I'll change my review to a positive one as soon as they change their TOS, one of the points is that one is not allowed to distribute any bug, glitch or exploit that messes with the service (that is how they refer to the game). Am i gonna get a lawsuit, my game revoked or account banned because i decided to share a bug that is in the game? if they don't want that stuff in the game then fix it, don't try to cover stuff by not allowing people to share stuff.
Overall a pretty fun game, with quality of life mods it even gets better in gameplay than BL3 but take two is messing this up, they even state that the changes do not apply to certain countries because they are ILLEGAL there, which should be everywhere to be honest.
Decade later for a ToS change is diabolical. Funny how hard this series has to fall for corporate greed.
Great game, but it's been made into spyware by the devs. Do not accept the EULA or TOS.
I'm leaving this review on all Borderlands games that I own, but this one is especially painful. BL2 was among my favorite games of all time, and I would still come back to it every so often, twelve years later.
This is a franchise that was very near and dear to my heart for years, but unfortunately my favorite critique of corporate greed is now dead to me because of (you guessed it) corporate greed. Changes to Take-Two's ToS and Privacy Policy ahead of the Borderlands 4 release are in fact retroactive and will apply to all previous games in the series. Why they couldn't just let us have Borderlands 2, I'll never know.
For those out of the loop, here are the data Take-Two will be pulling from your system(s) if you ever hope to play these games again:

Were it not for the latest Terms of Service updates that turn the ENTIRE franchise into Chinese malware, I'd suggest you buy Borderlands 2 and its DLC.
Now? Do not buy. Not the first game, the Prequel, the Tales From, 2 or 3.
Do not give Take-Two kernel level access to your system, and your personal data.
What manner of data? This...

iconic, this is game is just childhood to me, i love it so and i havent found a borderlands game thats so unique, i've tried borderlands 3 and it isn as great as borderlands 2, borderlands 3 has some fun gameplay, but the story confuses me, i prefer this game over any other borderlands game, if borderlands 4 is better then 3, i'll check it out but for now im staying with 2
wtf gearbox, how dare you make an agreement making this game unplayable without selling my soul in your EULA
I love this game and have many memories with it. But with Take2 and Gearbox updating the EULA such that:
1. It allows 2K Games to collect extensive data, including geolocation and system information, which many users consider an invasion of privacy and may be illegal in some locations
2. The new terms include clauses that threaten users with bans and legal action for any perceived misconduct, creating a hostile environment for players wherein they've essentially asserted if you complain about the changes they can ban you from play.
3. The EULA now requires users to resolve disputes through mandatory arbitration, a practice that many view as unfair and predatory. This is the same practice American Businesses use to remove employee rights; it means that instead of ever suing the company, you have to have a meeting with their lawyer and an Arbitrator so you can get properly screwed over. You sign away the right to sue by agreeing.
4. It prohibits *modding*, which is the #1 way to make everyone hate you on PC.
Thanks, 2k. Now I'll never be able to play your games again unless I sandbox them in a virtual machine and screw with what your spyware can even report.
Current ToS is incredibly invasive and sketchy. Wait for it to update and READ THROUGH IT once it does.
New ToS make this game and others in the franchise into literal spyware, just as malicious and egregious as any chinese product, maybe even worse. It is disgusting. This company cannot be trusted. Don't take the risk.
negative review regarding Privacy policy. No ethical company should be spying on their consumer.
If you value your privacy, avoid until they roll it back.
how are you gonna make a game essentially mocking corporate greed and then put these silly TOS years later in a decade old game. it's just sad man, a gem of my childhood being reduced to this. don't play the game until they reverse this, or for that matter any of the games. they can access your browsing history, contact info, phone number and ip address, just by playing any of their games. why do this????
DO NOT PLAY ITS NOW SPYWARE. look up the new euala they want access to your location your name email and more. if you accept you say they can spy on you.

I enjoyed the game but the updated TOS and EULA killed it
All Borderlands games including Pre-sequel are now spyware for collecting your user data that includes Username and passwords, IP location and browser history data.
Important Info in ToS:
• Mods are a bannable offense
• Display of Cheats/Exploits is bannable
• Forced arbitration so long as it is permitted in your region
• You can be banned for the using a VPN while connecting to online servers
• Cannot access game content on a Virtual PC
• Best last they reserve the right to modify this Agreement, in whole or in part, at any time
A company who's CEO was accused of leaving a USB with illegal material on it as well as sensitive data of Gearbox/2K partners in a medieval themed restaurant wants all your delectable data and will never let anyone gain access to your data intentionally or not. ᴾʳᵒᵐᶦˢᵉ

Re-installed this game to have some fun on the build up to BL4, saw the new TOS and instantly deleted. Removed BL4 from Wishlist also.
DO NOT INSTALL AND ACCEPT THE EULA UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
A Recent update to this game has updated the EULA that if accepted gives Gearbox/2K access to:
Root level access to your machine under the guise of "anticheat" software
Your IP Address
Personal information including your phone number, email and address
Refusing the EULA breaks mods and cuts off netplay in a 10+ year old game. This same dangerous level of access has been added to the following games in the catalog:
+ Borderlands GOTY Edition (Yes, the de-listed one)
+ Borderlands GOTY Edition Enhanced (https://store.steampowered.com/app/729040/Borderlands_Game_of_the_Year_Enhanced/)
+ Borderlands 3 (https://store.steampowered.com/app/397540/Borderlands_3/)
+ Borderlands TPS (https://store.steampowered.com/app/261640/Borderlands_The_PreSequel/)
+ Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
This invasive update effectively turns the game into Spyware and I encourage others to report the game to Steam for this disgusting invasion of privacy. When and only when this problem is reversed will I delete this review.
I ain't really ever finished these games but I like them fine. I am never going to finish them now. After owning them for so long the company that made these is just going to change my access to the game and do whatever they wish because they still own it. Nah. I bought it and the TOS I agreed to at the time of purchase should supersede changes made later. Cellular companies went through this shit too. I just think ppl need to start looking at companies that commit anti consumer practices and saying DONE. Use your wallet, stop supporting the Corpos that don't actually care about the product or consumer. Be different if they did this at the beginning of a new game they launched I'd understand and I'd simply not buy their new game cause it's still scummy.
Don't buy this or any of the other Borderlands games -- or any game under the publishing group Take-Two Interactive, or the following Publishers: 2K, Dynamixyz, Rockstar Games, and Zynga. All of the information about their publishers and developers are publicly available.
Here is why:
They have added Terms of Service changes, or EULA changes to their games saying that they can and will collect your personal information such as: Passwords, Phone Numbers, IP Addresses.
They also wish to put a stop to Community Modders.
I recommend uninstalling these games if you have already agreed to these term changes. If you haven't agreed, best to do it to be safe.
Do not buy this game until gearbox reverses the new ToS implemented by take two. They are taking so much of your personal data it's genuinely scary.
borderlands 4 needs to fail with this disgusting terms of service stuff. I hate it because bl2 is one of my favorite games, but essentially turning the game into spyware is unacceptable. There's probably a solid chance these negative reviews are being taken down also, so kudos if you see this while it's still up lol
One of the most enjoyable coop romps. Properly insane with zero moral compass.
However Take-2 now want you to click on a "If you play our game you got no rights, maggot".
So, it's uninstalled, and I will not be buying BL4. Only one lost sale so not going to sting, but for evilcorps to win, all that is required is for good gamers to do nothing.
As of April 2025 this game forces you to agree to spyware in order to play it. No one should support spyware that scrubs your personal identity, address, phone number, email, and browser history - to be sold to malicious organizations
Piracy is the only option to avoid this agreement
Borderlands 2 has quietly updated its Terms of Service to include spyware-level data collection - collecting your name, email, search history, and more.
It’s a blatant invasion of privacy, and companies this size are constant targets for hacks and leaks. Your personal data, even your bank info, could be at serious risk. Borderlands 3 can be fun at times, but this TOS change poses a real threat to your online safety.
No game is worth exposing your identity, finances, and digital life to this level of risk.
Amazing game, and I've hundreds of hours on BL2 and BL:TPS on console and decided to buy them on PC now. Didn't realize what the new EULA was about so I pretty much signed something where I sold my soul and privacy to Gearbox and Take Two.
Nice Spyware. Also, game no longer works on some modern systems.
I will not be playing any Borderlands game published by Take-Two until they remove the "spyware" portion of their TOS/EULA. This is a disgusting business practice, and they cannot be allowed to let this go unchecked.
The game is spyware now. The ToS have killed this franchise for me and I will never buy another game from them until the ToS are reverted.
