i hate and i love this fuckin game u get luck or u dont i recommend playing with friends its a chill game overally when theres not a sneaky mf who shoots u out of no where and then u get a heart attack but mostly its fun
I can not believe i spent money on this game... every server has been looted, you have to run miles to find a can of soup, and you won't find players let alone anybody to help you learn to play. save your money...
spawn, loot, get chased by zombies, die, repeat. 10/10 great experience
Spend 8 hours to gather supplies just to go down south, stub ur toe and it gets infected and die.
By the time you walk enough to experience the game it is past the refund period.
Note: I never got to try the mod, so I have no way of comparing this official version to the original mod.
I love games that are open world, survival based, and thrilling. I'm not a genre snob, so I'm always open to any game, as long as it's fun and has depth. DayZ seemed to have it all: open world, survival, multiplayer, public or private servers, 100% customization, team or solo options, huge map, PvE, PvP, mods, tons of weapons, tons of play styles, a huge player base, and literally anything is possible.
I bought the game with the intentions of playing all sorts of ways as well as running my own private server for random solo/customization fun. Here's how my time went:
Round 1:
1) I wanted to try official servers first before venturing into community servers, so I hopped into a server that had a low ping and 48/60 players. Joined in, and the lag fest began.
2) Couldn't find loot anywhere because it's the coast where you always spawn in, so everyone had already looted the initial areas.
3) Zombies started chasing me, so I ran away back to my spawn where a new player had now spawned.
4) New player is frozen, so I start punching him, which does zero damage.
5) New player wakes up and almost one shots me with one punch, so I run back to the zombies while the new player freezes again.
6) One zombie scratches my face, so I punched the zombie to death. The game says I'm bleeding out, so I bandaged myself up and took off running. After running deep into the map, I find a motorcycle helmet and pants. Then I died from bleeding out even though I stopped the bleeding right after the earlier attack prior.
---
Round 2:
1) Spawned on the coast, lag fest began, and I ran straight North to find better loot. A while later after running, I find a hoodie, pants, rain boots, and a motorcycle helmet.
2) I run down to an airport that is clear, no zombies, no players. Everything is looted, except for a wielder's mask, so I leave the one hangar. As I turn around, about seven zombies spawn and chase me. I run across the tarmac until I run out of stamina and get killed by the zombies.
---
Round 3:
1) Spawned on the coast, lag fest began, ran straight Northwest until I came across some industrial town near a port.
2) Like the airport, the whole area was clear with no zombies or people, so I ran to the houses to find some loot.
3) About 10 zombies spawn and chase me up the stairs.
4) I run out of the house and to the port where I climbed a ladder to a chemical tower.
5) Zombies despawn, so I come down the ladder.
6) Zombies respawn, so I ran up a crane ladder.
7) Zombies despawn, so I jumped down.
8) Zombies respawn, so I just ran like Forest Gump.
9) Found motorcycle helmet, shirt, pants, and a GPS radio.
10) Game says my motorcycle helmet has gotten damp from rain (how does waterproof fiberglass get damp?).
11) Game says my 3min old, pristine pants are wet and that my character is getting cold.
12) After 30min of exploring, the game announces that the server will be wiped and restarted in 12min (lolwut?).
13) I find a small, fenced in village, and like the airport and port town, it is empty and without players or zombies.
14) I sneak into a house where I found some dry clothes and another motorcycle helmet.
15) Suddenly a fully decked out player spawns in front of me, mumbles, and shoots me, ending my third run.
---
Round 4)
1) Spawn a bit into the forest by the coast and the lag fest began.
2) See another freshly spawned player running from zombies.
3) I run to the other player.
4) Other player turns around like a robot and two punches me into unconciousness.
5) Game offers to respawn me, so I click yes.
6) Game instead wakes me up to the other player where he runs back and punches me back into unconciousness.
7) I quickly click respawn.
8) I respawn and the server restarts.
9) I exited the game.
---
Throughout each of the aforementioned runs, I constantly had items in my inventory disappearing, including the inventory slots themselves. Nothing I did would fix, nor prevent this issue. I also ran into the inability to punch or run multiple times, and nothing fixed that either.
I would love to play this game and enjoy the supposed good parts, but now I see why people say the mod > the official release. This official version is just terrible. The lag is horrendous, even on low ping servers, many players seem to be using cheats (mainly ESP based), there's no loot anywhere (could be horded or despawned by hackers), the zombies spawning in and out right in front of you is busted, the map is big but mostly empty or unexplorable (think empty Ubisoft maps), fully decked out players camping the areas near the coast to prevent you from playing the game, and just general toxicity completely ruin the fun of the game.
I didn't even attempt community servers because most of them are people who permit hackers to join because they donate to their server costs. The rest are just toxic drama queens from what I have seen in the server discussion boards online. Overall, I would not recommend this game at all because for the money, it's a ripoff in its broken state. Why pay to play with hackers when I can play games like Warzone for free? Sure, there's hackers in Warzone, but at least I don't have to pay money for that experience. DayZ has been out since 2013 as an offficial release, and it still has tons of bugs, lag, hackers, and more. That is just unacceptable to me, so I requested a refund. I do, however, think there is something special here, especially with the potential player freedom, large open world, and anything goes playstyle option, but it needs to be developed more, and the hackers need to be removed.
One of the worst parts of this game is ingrained into its very design, which is the fact that when you die, the game does not tell you how you died, it does not tell you who or what killed you, it does not tell you where you died, it does not show you a kill cam, and it just generally obfuscates your death. This design component literally enables hackers because you cannot see what they killed you with, how they killed you, from where they killed you, and worst of all: you cannot see their name so that you can report them (the game does not show you your killer's name). This makes it impossible for hackers to be removed from DayZ long-term.
For now, I think better developed and more appropriately priced options include (especially during sales):
1) The Long Dark
2) Green Hell
3) Valheim
4) The Forest
5) Icarus
Was hiding in a house after scavenging for 3 hours and cooking some fish, suddenly housekeeping came knocking requesting to come in. As I tried to remember when I arranged for housekeeping in the apocalypse I opened the door and got shot in the head by the housekeeper.
0/10 housekeeping
10/10 gameplay
1 drive along a dirt road at night through the forest
2get shoot at 15 times
3 go unconscious
4 get out of the car
5 bleed out to death because of the car crash
I think the game is ok, the first time i got the game i was having a blast but then a few months i started hopping on it less and less because every time i join a serv with good ping which actually has players i cant find anyone. but yeah overall ok game, middle for me.
I get that its a survival game and its supposed to be hard, but certain things like water bottles and a pot to purify water in should not be less common than guns and ammo. I ran around for 3 hours in one server and in that time I found 36 guns, about 50 rounds of different types of ammo and ZERO water bottles, cooking pots, or water purification tablets. This game would be a ton of fun if the scariest part about it wasn't dying of dysentery or dehydration.
ma sterg la cur cu jocu asta plin de bug uri
great game, but many hackers and no reporting system to report them. Even official servers hackers are quite frequent.
At this point, it feels like community server developers are contributing more to the game than the original company. The game has so much potential but is being neglected and needs significant improvements. It's frustrating to see such opportunities go to waste.
DayZ - A Newbie's Wild Ride into Survival Horror
First Impressions: Starting out with DayZ, I was kind of nervous, like stepping into a zombie movie without knowing the script. But the desolate, haunting beauty of Chernarus immediately piqued my interest. It's like waking up in a post-apocalyptic world where every sound could mean life or death.
The Survival Rollercoaster: I'll be honest, my initial hours were a series of quick deaths. The game throws you into the deep end with little more than a rag and some vague hope. But that's part of the thrill - the learning curve is steep, but it's what makes every small victory feel epic. Learning to find food, water, and not get eaten by zombies or worse, shot by other players, is a real eye-opener.
Combat and Exploration: Combat in DayZ is tense, and I mean nail-bitingly so. My first time taking down a zombie with a makeshift weapon was both terrifying and exhilarating. Exploring this vast, open world is like unearthing a new story at every turn. You never know if you'll find a safe haven, a hoard of supplies, or walk straight into an ambush. The unpredictability is what keeps you on your toes.
Survival and Strategy: Figuring out how to manage my character's hunger, thirst, and health felt like juggling while running from a horde. But it's this exact challenge that makes the game so engaging. Every item you find, every shelter you build, every piece of clothing you wear, it all matters. It's not just about surviving; it's about thriving in this harsh environment.
The Community Experience: The DayZ community is a mixed bag, but the interactions are unforgettable. Meeting another player is like rolling the dice - will they be friend or foe? My first friendly encounter where we shared resources instead of bullets was a highlight. And the forums and guides? They've been my lifeline, turning my newbie status into something more seasoned, one tip at a time.
Final Thoughts: DayZ isn't just a game; it's an experience that's hard to put into words. It's brutal, beautiful, and absolutely chaotic in all the right ways. For someone new to survival games, it's like learning to swim in the deep end, but the sense of achievement when you make it through another day, or even just another hour, is unparalleled. I'm hooked, and I'm looking forward to every heart-pounding moment this game has yet to throw at me.
A Unique and Thrilling Experience.
DayZ is, without a doubt, one of the most immersive and rewarding survival games I’ve ever played. From the moment you step into its unforgiving post-apocalyptic world, the game keeps you on edge, blending realism, strategy, and unpredictability in a way that few other games manage to achieve.
The open-world environment is beautifully crafted, with every town, forest, and coastline telling its own story. The game’s focus on survival—managing hunger, thirst, and health—creates a constant sense of urgency that makes every decision feel meaningful.
What really sets DayZ apart, though, is the dynamic interaction with other players. Every encounter feels unique. Will they be a friend, a foe, or something in between? This unpredictability, combined with the need for teamwork or caution, makes every session a thrilling experience.
And then there’s the Frostline DLC. The new update is nothing short of spectacular. The frosty landscapes, the chilling atmosphere, and the new gameplay elements elevate the DayZ experience to a whole new level. Bohemia Interactive has truly outdone themselves with Frostline—it’s a masterpiece of game design. I already get goosebumps just thinking about starting up Steam, clicking on DayZ, and diving into the Frostline world. The immersion is simply incredible.
Of course, no game is without its flaws. DayZ can feel daunting at first, especially for newcomers. Its steep learning curve and occasional technical hiccups might frustrate some players. But for those who stick with it, the rewards are well worth the effort.
DayZ isn’t just a game—it’s an adventure. It’s a test of patience, strategy, and adaptability. If you’re looking for a survival experience that’s raw, realistic, and deeply engaging, DayZ—and especially the Frostline DLC—is absolutely worth your time.
Bohemia Interactive: Reluctance to Invest in Development
DayZ was once a revolutionary title in the survival genre. Its open world, dynamic player interactions, and post-apocalyptic atmosphere captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide. However, over time, enthusiasm has begun to wane, largely due to the developers' approach to the project.
Despite the game's steady income, it feels as though its development has nearly come to a halt. Updates are released infrequently, and when they do appear, they often seem superficial. It's hard not to notice that DayZ's development is allocated an alarmingly small amount of resources.
not as good as the arma mods... still has more cheaters then the old arma mod setups as well... just kinda meh
Great Community
I ran into a stranger during my first ever full gear run. The player picked up that I was fairly new to the game and offered to share tips and tricks to help me become a full on DayZ veteran!
His first (and only tip) was to not trust anyone and he proceeded to shoot me in the face.
10/10 would recommend
Tries to be too realistic, but is actually unrealistic. Character gets hungry unrealistically fast and when I found a potato while character was starving, it didn't want to eat it. Maps are very empty and feels like the game isn't finished and is early access. Guns have only one bullet and when you try to reload the dumb character just throws the bullet away. Very uncomfortable menus and inventory, also fighting physics is worse than in 20 year old games.
The new changes suck especially the loot pool changes. It’s baffling how they let so many issues persist and then change something no one was asking for.
Playing on official server is struggle, it's infested with cheaters. Sad, the game would be great if not that
I've never laughed more than when I play this game with Foksy... there's so much we can do and there's a lot of detail, and a lot of laughs. This game is worth playing with friends. I recommend!!!!
fun game if you dont get mad when you lose everything and just appreciate the adventure you had and the people you met along the way.
Amazing game, i spawned found a friend, drank water and ate with him. then i offered him a helmet and he didn't accept it. so i beat the shit out of him took his gun and shot him in the head.... i miss my friend.
save it and dont support the scums behind the SA game and their abuse towards the community, how they know and just depends on the community to develop and build the game for them, and then to sell it. DLC's for 30$... I mean, "this poor indy studio".
Luckily it was 50% off (still overpriced for what it is), full price for this is an absolute joke. The game is an early beta at best, which is sad considering how long its been out. Combat feels uneventful, swinging/shooting at air until it falls over while glitching out on your screen. Looting is limited and boring. Player interaction, they'll wave, talk, etc. then kill you. Losing everything was mute, didn't make it far enough to care.
2013, as a mod this game was promising. 11 years later, It looks and feels exactly the same.
One of the worst games I've ever played.
Don't bother even if it's on sale. Servers will kick you off automatically after joining if you have high ping (I don't) or latency (I don't). Just a poorly developed and maintained game.
This game is like someone kicking your balls.
For some, they experience once and let go.
For others, it becomes an aquired taste.
And there is people that is already into it.
Frostline as a expansion is amazing! It made Dayz better in every way. in enjoy the new map and heat system, fishing small changes but still enjoyed. new critters and assets i am sure the community is going to come thru with some amazing stuff with the new updates giving and vanilla is great as is IMO.
this game has been in development for almost a whole decade yet has barely changed , what are the devs doing with all of the funding ?? Adding one or two guns every year isnt developping , most bugs from the early access days are still present and instead of working on features we have asked for like a overhaul to the ai and many other things they decide to release a cash grab of a dlc based on an already made map and reused asset and pricing it at the price of a full game , genuinely bohemia wake tf up you are smoothering your own game to death with your scummy tactics and slow paced development give us new vehicles and other stuff that isnt locked behind a paid dlc this is genuinely disheartening to see.

DayZ Standalone: Where the Apocalypse Meets an Absurdist Comedy
Hours Played: Enough to question my life choices
Steam Review Summary: It's buggy enough to make you laugh, stable enough to make you stay, and chaotic enough to make you love it.
________________________________________
Ah, DayZ Standalone. A game where survival is a miracle, laughter is mandatory, and the apocalypse feels like it was organized by a committee of drunk developers. It’s buggy enough to keep you entertained but stable enough that you’ll spend hours wondering why you're still crawling through this madhouse. Let me take you through my DayZ experience—a rollercoaster of hunger, betrayal, and utter nonsense.
Starting the Game: Spawning and Starving
You begin your journey as a half-starved, confused survivor, washed up on a beach with nothing but your underwear and the vague hope of not dying immediately. The moment you spawn, DayZ greets you warmly by saying: "You are hungry." Then it casually adds: "You are thirsty." Finally, it whispers in your ear: "And you’re probably screwed."
Scavenging is the name of the game, but the game world clearly had a recent visit from a horde of looters. I found six helmets, one badly damaged t-shirt, and a single pristine battery. I don't know who’s running around hoarding every can of beans, but they’re the real villain of the apocalypse.
The Joy of Multiplayer: Trust No One, Especially Yourself
Interacting with other players in DayZ is like auditioning for a role in a Shakespearean tragedy. You approach cautiously, waving your hands in a universal gesture of peace, hoping they don’t immediately bash your head in with a shovel.
One time, I teamed up with a stranger after a brief, awkward exchange. We bonded over a mutual dislike for zombies and an empty can of sardines. Just when I thought I’d made a friend for life, he asked if I wanted to "see something cool." The "cool thing" turned out to be him locking me in a barn and stealing all my clothes. He left me with nothing but my dignity, and even that was debatable.
Zombies: The Least of Your Problems
The infected are supposed to be your primary threat, but let’s be real—they’re more like an uncoordinated flash mob. These zombies range from terrifyingly fast to hilariously stupid. I once watched one get stuck on a fence for ten minutes, flailing like it was practicing for a dance recital. Meanwhile, I casually walked up behind it and smacked it with a shovel, feeling both powerful and deeply confused.
Bugs: The Gift That Keeps on Giving
Yes, DayZ is buggy, but in the most entertaining way possible. Sure, your inventory occasionally disappears into another dimension, and once, I climbed a ladder only to be yeeted into the stratosphere like a space program reject. But these bugs are more like chaotic comedy intermissions than game-breaking catastrophes.
Take, for instance, the time I tried to eat an apple. Instead of taking a satisfying bite, my character decided to mime eating it from three feet away. The apple floated ominously in the air like it was haunted. Moments like these remind you that in DayZ, the apocalypse doesn’t take itself too seriously—and neither should you.
The Landscape: Scenic Death Traps
Chernarus, the sprawling map of DayZ, is a beautiful yet utterly unforgiving place. You’ll admire the rolling hills and picturesque sunsets, only to realize you’ve spent three hours running in the wrong direction because all the towns look like variations of the same burnt-out village.
At one point, I climbed a hill to get a better view, only to accidentally fall off a small ledge and break my leg. My heroic quest for survival devolved into me crawling helplessly toward a nearby house, praying for a splint, while screaming at my computer: “This is not how I die!” Spoiler: It was exactly how I died.
Final Verdict: Beautiful Chaos in a Can of Beans
DayZ Standalone is not just a game—it’s an experience. It’s a sandbox of misery where every moment of triumph is followed by a swift kick to the teeth. It’s hilarious, frustrating, and oddly captivating. Yes, the bugs are there, but they add to the charm, turning the apocalypse into a slapstick comedy you didn’t know you needed.
Rating: 9/10. Would starve, glitch, and get betrayed again.... and again....
Now Imagine eating a tasty food and after sh*tting ur pants and dying. If you like this type of emotions well the game will suit you
waste of time, more hackers than actual players, on official anyway, if u play community that has its own issues.
The 2 Sides of DayZ in my experience so far:
There are 2 sides of DayZ the heavily modded PVP servers where people with 3000 plus hours worth of game time run around with 50cal snipers moonwalking/iceskating (sweaty movement tech which makes someone impossible to hit a shot on) drop shot no scope you from 500m+. These servers often remove 90% of the survival element of the game and replace it with Rust style base building and modded events like airdrops, ai missions, Koth ect. these type of servers can be equally as fun as they are toxic, if you enjoy lots of PVP and shit talking the people you killed in the global server chat then this type of DayZ is for you. The other side of DayZ lightly modded with quality of life mods or straight vanilla is alot slower paced. You spend most of the time trying to find food, water, fire and players that dont kill you on sight its also a fun and interesting experience making friends with strangers for the benefit of survival while also knowing you can never fully trust anyone. High populations servers are always the best because the player to player interactions is like nothing ive experienced in any other game ive played.
Vanilla or lightly modded narrowed down in 10 points:
1. Spawn
2. Almost die from starvation and dehydration
3. Find a stranger tell him your friendly share food and a fire
4. Become friends with this stranger learn each others names exchange stories
5. Find a gun with 1 bullet in it kill your new friend and take everything
6. Butcher his body carve his skull into a mask to intimidate other players
7. Travel 8km across the map to a military while being savagely attacked by wolves and zombies the whole way
8. Become fully geared with the best guns and armor
9. Run back to the coast killing everyone you see along the way
10. Thinking your now invincible auto run across the map while looking at your phone and die to a player with nothing and start all over again...
In conclusion ive played both sides of this game the sweaty PVP servers full of easy to find loot with not many survival mechanics and Vanilla full of empty house and no loot, and in my experience most players they will pick 1 of the 2 sides of this game stick to it and end up despising the other one, but in the 1000hours i have put into this game I have enjoyed both sides equally and have loved almost every moment of it, once you get past your first few hundred deaths in the game whether it be a disease you dont know how to cure or someone shooting you in the back from 600m you'll start to learn the phrase "ahhh well thats DayZ" and be happy to start fresh and do it all over again.
Always enjoy the little things in this game.
And one of the best ToolTips in this game is your "voice is your strongest weapon" talking can help you escape death and trick players.
Что за ужас с ценовой политикой. Игра за год выросла в цене почти в 2-3 раза... вот это прогрев... какой же ужас
I have been running for 22 hrs straight to TISSY and there i got killed by a bear while other players laught at me.
A Review of Vanilla DayZ
For those on the fence
Don't buy this game if:
- You can't allow a minimum of 90 minutes per game session
- You want a game that is easy to learn and/or fair
- You dislike permadeath* mechanics
- You hate slow gameplay
- You need more purpose from a game than to just 'survive'
[*]You need to know what killed you
Bohemia Interactive captured lightning in a bottle with the original DayZ mod for ArmA II. They have now painstakingly developed the standalone to a point where it is definitively better than the mod ever was in almost every way.
In a sentence, DayZ is the most realistic approximation of a post-apocalyptic survival simulator on the market.
Set in ~225sq km of not-quite-Czech countryside, you start on the fictional coastline of Chernarus with a glow stick, a roll of bandages, a small piece of fruit and some clothes ill-suited for the conditions you'll face. There's also up to 60 players on your server sharing that massive space. From there, it's up to you (and possibly friends or strangers) to find gear to help you survive the conditions and fend off threats. That's the core gameplay loop.
The threats in DayZ are: the weather, hunger, thirst, sickness, zombies (technically 'infected'), wolves, and other players. The final threat is also the most intriguing aspect of the gameplay. Like with all threats, you can learn gameplay mechanics and utilise gear to limit/avoid the threat that they pose. However, player interaction is the secret sauce that makes this a truly incredible game. More than any other gaming experience, this is the famous Prisoner's Dilemma manifest directly into a video game. DayZ repeatedly asks the question: when all chips are down, can you trust a fellow human? While your answer to that question will always be in flux, the constant is that the most memorable moments of this game involve other players.
Coupled with the psychology of trust, a few things in particular stand out to me about what separates this game from anything else. Each of these elements is great by itself, but it's in combination with each other that makes it shine.
First and foremost, choices matter more than any other game I've played. Not in a narrative sense, but in a very tangible sense of risk vs. reward.
Secondly, the sound design of the game is unparalleled. While the game is solid visually, the sound is phenomenal. It sounds good enough until you are on high alert - then you notice everything. It's not that the game changes any volumes, it's that your ears prick up and analyse every little detail.
Third, and the single thing that I've seen no other game encapsulate perfectly, is the quote often used to describe war: hours of idleness punctuated by moments of intense fear. When you hear the crack of a bullet whizzing past your head, or the howl of wolves when you are a kilometre from the nearest building, or footsteps when you don't want to hear them... nothing will make your heart race faster.
DayZ is a very good game, but more importantly it's a phenomenal experience. It's not for everyone, but those it is for will absolutely love it.
Extremely shitty made game thats now become money hungry as fuck, increasing the base price of the game to 50 and releasing a shitty map dlc for 27 dollars, game is completely community carried and lacking lots of base content, base content is also extremely buggy and annoying to deal with, game still has crashing problems in 2024, shits not worth.
Things I learned from DayZ from under 100 hours of gameplay (I will update this review in time)
1. Always trust your instincts (If a player is sus, never fully trust them and be cautious)
2. Trust a solo player who's fishing/sitting by a fireplace who says "I'm friendly" until proven otherwise
3. Be wary of duos - especially if one's a Talker and the other is a Quiet lad who tries to move out of your sight - most likely they're gonna shoot you or stab you from behind
4. No mic, no life (learned this the hard way, they were on discord and I got ambushed)
5. Don't take betrayals personally, especially expect it from overly enthusiastic squeakers/Gen Alphas
6. If you have morals/integrity and don't like to betray others - Keep fighting the good fight, one player at a time, it goes a long way
7. You can play solo and avoid every player, but what makes the game fun are the interactions
8. High risk, high reward
9. Meet new companions at spawn, the further you move away from the coast, the harder and riskier it is to team up with others
10. Never believe someone who has their gun out who says "I'm friendly" unless they put away their gun
11. Eating wolf and bear fat are safe and won't give you Salmonella or food poisoning
12. Get rid of gear fear, this game is not about loot but more on the experience itself overall. Respawning and dying is part of the game.
13. If your teammate is on discord with another, expect things to go south
14. Be neutral, expect betrayal
15. Community servers generally have higher quality of players who are keen to interact, less likely to KOS(Kill on Sight), less likely to have cheaters, compared to the Official servers
16. Vanilla DayZ has base-building, if that's a turnoff, join Hardcore servers which are just pure adventures and no base raiding
17. Don't tell the new guy you just met that your health is in the red
18. Drop your backpack somewhere before entering a hot pvp zone(military camps are always KOS)
19. Namalsk is hardcore, and has a lot of player interactions due to the smaller map. Sakhal is easier than Namalsk. Chernarus is the easiest map to learn.
Loving this game so far. The initial learning curve is tough, but I enjoy the game more now that I've more hours in.
If you have any tips or advice you can give to new or old players alike, feel free to drop it in the comments below
1. Concept and Gameplay: 8/10
DayZ is an open-world survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a pandemic. The game stands out for its brutal difficulty, realism, and lack of direct guidance for the player. The main objective is simple: survive as long as possible by managing resources like food, water, medical supplies, and avoiding dangers, especially zombies, but more importantly, other players who can be both allies or enemies.
The gameplay is characterized by its slow pace and immersive nature. Every decision has consequences, and mistakes can be deadly. Combat with zombies, resource scavenging, and managing vital needs (health, temperature, etc.) are central aspects. One of the strengths of DayZ is the complete freedom it offers, but this freedom can also lead to frustration for players unprepared for the challenge, as there are no clear objectives or directions to guide the player.
On the other hand, the survival system is very comprehensive: managing hunger, thirst, health, and injuries (infection, malnutrition, etc.) makes for a highly realistic and immersive experience. However, this complexity may overwhelm some players, particularly those who prefer more action-oriented gameplay or games with clear objectives.
2. Atmosphere and Immersion: 9/10
The atmosphere in DayZ is one of its greatest strengths. The open world is vast, realistic, and incredibly detailed, with abandoned towns, forests, mountains, and varied landscapes. The weather, day-night cycle, and environmental sounds (wind, zombie footsteps, vehicle noises, etc.) all contribute to the immersive experience.
The feeling of solitude is ever-present, amplified by the lack of clear markers and constant uncertainty. Danger can come from anywhere, and the tension is palpable with every encounter, whether it’s with an idle zombie or another player. The fact that other players are also a potential threat creates an atmosphere of constant suspicion and paranoia, which is both thrilling and stressful.
The game doesn’t have a fixed storyline, but its lack of direction allows for a personal story to emerge for each player, shaped by interactions and choices. The devastated locations tell the story of the past catastrophe, and every exploration feels like a journey into the unknown.
3. Multiplayer and Cooperation: 8/10
DayZ is primarily a multiplayer game, and this is where it truly shines. Player interactions can range from friendly cooperation to outright betrayal. The social aspect of the game is central, as there are no fixed factions, and everything depends on the behavior of other players. Some players seek cooperation, while others prefer to go solo or take a hostile approach.
Cooperation mechanics are interesting, but players often face fragile trust situations. For instance, two players might team up to defend against zombies or explore together, but once they’re in a safe area, it’s hard to know if one of them will decide to betray the other to steal their gear.
DayZ servers are often filled with players pursuing varied objectives, which adds a dynamic layer to every session. However, the lack of direct communication options (other than voice chat or text) can sometimes make cooperation more difficult.
4. Replayability and Longevity: 9/10
The replayability of DayZ is immense. Given the size of the open world and the dynamic nature of the game, each session feels different. Encounters with other players, places to explore, items to gather, and decisions to make all change with every new session. Moreover, the fact that death in the game is permanent (if you die, you lose everything) makes every moment precious, and every decision crucial.
Regular updates and the addition of new gameplay elements, such as vehicles, new weapons, or survival items, also help maintain player interest over the long term. Community servers allow for personalized experiences with specific rules or game modes, offering even more variety.
5. Accessibility: 7/10
One of the aspects that might deter some players from DayZ is its steep learning curve. The game doesn’t offer detailed tutorials, so new players must either figure things out on their own or look for external guides to understand the survival mechanics. Inventory management, item interactions, and environmental interactions can feel overwhelming at first, but with practice, they become more intuitive.
The game is not very accessible to casual players due to its difficulty and slow pacing. Additionally, while it doesn’t require an ultra-powerful PC, DayZ may experience performance issues on older systems, especially on servers with many players or during intense situations.
6. Bugs and Performance: 6/10
One of the biggest drawbacks of DayZ remains its bugs and performance issues. Although the game has evolved over the years, it still suffers from technical problems, including crashes, lag issues, and gameplay bugs (for example, glitchy animations, disappearing items, or enemies that suddenly appear). This can ruin the experience, especially when a player has invested a lot of time into a session only to lose their character due to a bug.
The game’s engine has been criticized for its stability, and technical issues remain persistent even after several years of development. These technical aspects can make the game frustrating for some players, particularly those seeking a smoother experience.
Conclusion: 8/10
DayZ is a captivating, deep, and demanding survival game that offers an immersive experience in a vast, unforgiving open world. Its realistic approach to survival and player interaction makes for a unique experience, but its difficulty, bugs, and performance issues can be obstacles for some players. If you're ready to dive into a game that requires patience, strategy, and a lot of perseverance, DayZ provides a rewarding experience with nearly endless replayability. However, it’s important to note that the learning curve is steep, and frustration can quickly set in, especially if you encounter technical bugs.
So much nothing in this game. Walk around forever looking for food. If you finally manage to get some good gear, you'll die because there's a glitch that won't allow the bandages to apply.
It sucked ten years ago in alpha, still no good.
Hackers ruin the game. I love playing Vanilla. Private servers are 99% of the time laggy peer 2 peer. I'm so sick of this company not doing anything about it, I swear they just ban them but don't fix the hacks so they will buy another copy... This game is screwed
This game is fun but not like minecraft fun more like shoving glass shards in your ass and having a bath in tobasco sause fun
Trek beautiful landscapes as you discover the awe inspiring locations of Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal. Sneak, plan and defend against the hordes or even your fellow man.
But wait!!! You fell a little too high? Dead.
Oh you wanted to slide down a ladder without gloves? You're bleeding. Don't worry patch your wound with a bandage, wait you tried to use a non-disinfected rag? Are you stupid? Wound infection. Dead.
Maybe you're doing well, surviving a little. Wait whats that? A bear? A pack of wolves? Who cares you have a hundred bullets of ammo that isn't for you gun. Dead.
But maybe the wildlife and locals aren't enough to kill you... its been days and you've finally seen a player. Two choices, trust them or fight them. You trust them. Dead. Maybe you don't. You take a couple of shots off in the distance. You miss. After all you've had this gun since the beginning but haven't dared to use it. You don't know its recoil pattern. But that doesn't matter, the gun jams. You're sat looking a man running at you with a gun which you better believe won't jam on him. Dead.
Anyways... would recommend. Great game. 10/10
Started, killed 2 fullgear guys, then killed another 2 guys, went to Airfield Vybor, looted Airfield, found a perfect place for a base, but first went to another millitary at the edge of the map. As i was leaving i got grenaded and then killed by some guy with a machine gun and lost about 6-7 hours of proggress. 9/10 (All on Official with 30 players)
Hackers are fucking EVERYWHERE. I realize now it ain't worth playing, even if I bought this game when it was on sale. Can't do shit without being remotely killed randomly.
i really like this game but why cant we play a friends only or offline mode?
i want to enjoy the building etc part of the game, and as a casual player, i cant because everyone always ends up killing me and after i get completely lost and lose all my progress, i understand thats part of the game but an offline mode or friends only mode would provide a learning curve aswel as people like me enjoying the games building side of things, hunting, getting cars to work etc...
i hate the fact if your new here, you have a HUGE disadvantage...
i like the game but i donno if ill be buying any dlcs etc for it.. its annoying me already..
The survival experience at the heart of the game is a compelling journey with challenges and depth that can be incredibly fulfilling. However, problems that affect both official and community servers constantly erode this potential, making the whole experience frustrating for many players.
On official servers, cheaters are a common issue that detracts from what should be an engaging and competitive gaming experience. Because of the seemingly nonexistent efforts to prevent cheating, players are left vulnerable, which frequently prompts them to seek safety on community servers. Unfortunately, these servers are not the ideal haven that many people seek. While they may promise enhanced rule sets and improved moderation, many fail to deliver on this promise due to their own shortcomings.
Owners and their administrative teams often display toxic behaviour, which taints community servers. Power abuse is widespread, with many players receiving unjust punishments or even community bans for subjective or minor infractions. A hostile and erratic experience that can equal or even surpass the problems encountered on official servers is produced by this toxic culture.
Ultimately, these structural issues frequently overshadow the attractive survival landscape and interesting mechanics. Players find it challenging to fully enjoy what the game has to offer because of the dominance of cheaters, the toxic behaviour of many server owners, and the uneven moderation, which creates an environment that falls short of its potential.
big learning curve, but its meant to be like real life, if you think it'd be easy in real life think again lol. this game captures what areal life apocalypse would be very well, so much so u even have to have the right blood type for transfusions, if ur character dont got a mask while someone coughs next to u, u can get sick so on. its really fuckin realistic, animations aren't the best but the experience in features alone makes up for it by far, 100/100 would rebuy and start again anytime
I just love the game! Every run writes a new story and the game is so immersive ive never thought i will have that much fun. Its not for everyone tho but if you like to run for 1-2 hours in the wilderness by yourself, or myb 1-2 friends which you met while playing you will love this game
So over priced and hyped for something this old and runs like ass. its a starving sim.
the photos and vids above does not represent any part of what i played
