DAYZ COOL & DELUXE EDITIONS

Amazing game, i spawned found a friend, drank water and ate with him. then i offered him a helmet and he didn't accept it. so i beat the shit out of him took his gun and shot him in the head.... i miss my friend.
save it and dont support the scums behind the SA game and their abuse towards the community, how they know and just depends on the community to develop and build the game for them, and then to sell it. DLC's for 30$... I mean, "this poor indy studio".
This game is like someone kicking your balls.
For some, they experience once and let go.
For others, it becomes an aquired taste.
And there is people that is already into it.
Frostline as a expansion is amazing! It made Dayz better in every way. in enjoy the new map and heat system, fishing small changes but still enjoyed. new critters and assets i am sure the community is going to come thru with some amazing stuff with the new updates giving and vanilla is great as is IMO.
this game has been in development for almost a whole decade yet has barely changed , what are the devs doing with all of the funding ?? Adding one or two guns every year isnt developping , most bugs from the early access days are still present and instead of working on features we have asked for like a overhaul to the ai and many other things they decide to release a cash grab of a dlc based on an already made map and reused asset and pricing it at the price of a full game , genuinely bohemia wake tf up you are smoothering your own game to death with your scummy tactics and slow paced development give us new vehicles and other stuff that isnt locked behind a paid dlc this is genuinely disheartening to see.

DayZ Standalone: Where the Apocalypse Meets an Absurdist Comedy
Hours Played: Enough to question my life choices
Steam Review Summary: It's buggy enough to make you laugh, stable enough to make you stay, and chaotic enough to make you love it.
________________________________________
Ah, DayZ Standalone. A game where survival is a miracle, laughter is mandatory, and the apocalypse feels like it was organized by a committee of drunk developers. It’s buggy enough to keep you entertained but stable enough that you’ll spend hours wondering why you're still crawling through this madhouse. Let me take you through my DayZ experience—a rollercoaster of hunger, betrayal, and utter nonsense.
Starting the Game: Spawning and Starving
You begin your journey as a half-starved, confused survivor, washed up on a beach with nothing but your underwear and the vague hope of not dying immediately. The moment you spawn, DayZ greets you warmly by saying: "You are hungry." Then it casually adds: "You are thirsty." Finally, it whispers in your ear: "And you’re probably screwed."
Scavenging is the name of the game, but the game world clearly had a recent visit from a horde of looters. I found six helmets, one badly damaged t-shirt, and a single pristine battery. I don't know who’s running around hoarding every can of beans, but they’re the real villain of the apocalypse.
The Joy of Multiplayer: Trust No One, Especially Yourself
Interacting with other players in DayZ is like auditioning for a role in a Shakespearean tragedy. You approach cautiously, waving your hands in a universal gesture of peace, hoping they don’t immediately bash your head in with a shovel.
One time, I teamed up with a stranger after a brief, awkward exchange. We bonded over a mutual dislike for zombies and an empty can of sardines. Just when I thought I’d made a friend for life, he asked if I wanted to "see something cool." The "cool thing" turned out to be him locking me in a barn and stealing all my clothes. He left me with nothing but my dignity, and even that was debatable.
Zombies: The Least of Your Problems
The infected are supposed to be your primary threat, but let’s be real—they’re more like an uncoordinated flash mob. These zombies range from terrifyingly fast to hilariously stupid. I once watched one get stuck on a fence for ten minutes, flailing like it was practicing for a dance recital. Meanwhile, I casually walked up behind it and smacked it with a shovel, feeling both powerful and deeply confused.
Bugs: The Gift That Keeps on Giving
Yes, DayZ is buggy, but in the most entertaining way possible. Sure, your inventory occasionally disappears into another dimension, and once, I climbed a ladder only to be yeeted into the stratosphere like a space program reject. But these bugs are more like chaotic comedy intermissions than game-breaking catastrophes.
Take, for instance, the time I tried to eat an apple. Instead of taking a satisfying bite, my character decided to mime eating it from three feet away. The apple floated ominously in the air like it was haunted. Moments like these remind you that in DayZ, the apocalypse doesn’t take itself too seriously—and neither should you.
The Landscape: Scenic Death Traps
Chernarus, the sprawling map of DayZ, is a beautiful yet utterly unforgiving place. You’ll admire the rolling hills and picturesque sunsets, only to realize you’ve spent three hours running in the wrong direction because all the towns look like variations of the same burnt-out village.
At one point, I climbed a hill to get a better view, only to accidentally fall off a small ledge and break my leg. My heroic quest for survival devolved into me crawling helplessly toward a nearby house, praying for a splint, while screaming at my computer: “This is not how I die!” Spoiler: It was exactly how I died.
Final Verdict: Beautiful Chaos in a Can of Beans
DayZ Standalone is not just a game—it’s an experience. It’s a sandbox of misery where every moment of triumph is followed by a swift kick to the teeth. It’s hilarious, frustrating, and oddly captivating. Yes, the bugs are there, but they add to the charm, turning the apocalypse into a slapstick comedy you didn’t know you needed.
Rating: 9/10. Would starve, glitch, and get betrayed again.... and again....
Now Imagine eating a tasty food and after sh*tting ur pants and dying. If you like this type of emotions well the game will suit you
waste of time, more hackers than actual players, on official anyway, if u play community that has its own issues.
The 2 Sides of DayZ in my experience so far:
There are 2 sides of DayZ the heavily modded PVP servers where people with 3000 plus hours worth of game time run around with 50cal snipers moonwalking/iceskating (sweaty movement tech which makes someone impossible to hit a shot on) drop shot no scope you from 500m+. These servers often remove 90% of the survival element of the game and replace it with Rust style base building and modded events like airdrops, ai missions, Koth ect. these type of servers can be equally as fun as they are toxic, if you enjoy lots of PVP and shit talking the people you killed in the global server chat then this type of DayZ is for you. The other side of DayZ lightly modded with quality of life mods or straight vanilla is alot slower paced. You spend most of the time trying to find food, water, fire and players that dont kill you on sight its also a fun and interesting experience making friends with strangers for the benefit of survival while also knowing you can never fully trust anyone. High populations servers are always the best because the player to player interactions is like nothing ive experienced in any other game ive played.
Vanilla or lightly modded narrowed down in 10 points:
1. Spawn
2. Almost die from starvation and dehydration
3. Find a stranger tell him your friendly share food and a fire
4. Become friends with this stranger learn each others names exchange stories
5. Find a gun with 1 bullet in it kill your new friend and take everything
6. Butcher his body carve his skull into a mask to intimidate other players
7. Travel 8km across the map to a military while being savagely attacked by wolves and zombies the whole way
8. Become fully geared with the best guns and armor
9. Run back to the coast killing everyone you see along the way
10. Thinking your now invincible auto run across the map while looking at your phone and die to a player with nothing and start all over again...
In conclusion ive played both sides of this game the sweaty PVP servers full of easy to find loot with not many survival mechanics and Vanilla full of empty house and no loot, and in my experience most players they will pick 1 of the 2 sides of this game stick to it and end up despising the other one, but in the 1000hours i have put into this game I have enjoyed both sides equally and have loved almost every moment of it, once you get past your first few hundred deaths in the game whether it be a disease you dont know how to cure or someone shooting you in the back from 600m you'll start to learn the phrase "ahhh well thats DayZ" and be happy to start fresh and do it all over again.
Always enjoy the little things in this game.
And one of the best ToolTips in this game is your "voice is your strongest weapon" talking can help you escape death and trick players.
Что за ужас с ценовой политикой. Игра за год выросла в цене почти в 2-3 раза... вот это прогрев... какой же ужас
I have been running for 22 hrs straight to TISSY and there i got killed by a bear while other players laught at me.
A Review of Vanilla DayZ
For those on the fence
Don't buy this game if:
- You can't allow a minimum of 90 minutes per game session
- You want a game that is easy to learn and/or fair
- You dislike permadeath* mechanics
- You hate slow gameplay
- You need more purpose from a game than to just 'survive'
[*]You need to know what killed you
Bohemia Interactive captured lightning in a bottle with the original DayZ mod for ArmA II. They have now painstakingly developed the standalone to a point where it is definitively better than the mod ever was in almost every way.
In a sentence, DayZ is the most realistic approximation of a post-apocalyptic survival simulator on the market.
Set in ~225sq km of not-quite-Czech countryside, you start on the fictional coastline of Chernarus with a glow stick, a roll of bandages, a small piece of fruit and some clothes ill-suited for the conditions you'll face. There's also up to 60 players on your server sharing that massive space. From there, it's up to you (and possibly friends or strangers) to find gear to help you survive the conditions and fend off threats. That's the core gameplay loop.
The threats in DayZ are: the weather, hunger, thirst, sickness, zombies (technically 'infected'), wolves, and other players. The final threat is also the most intriguing aspect of the gameplay. Like with all threats, you can learn gameplay mechanics and utilise gear to limit/avoid the threat that they pose. However, player interaction is the secret sauce that makes this a truly incredible game. More than any other gaming experience, this is the famous Prisoner's Dilemma manifest directly into a video game. DayZ repeatedly asks the question: when all chips are down, can you trust a fellow human? While your answer to that question will always be in flux, the constant is that the most memorable moments of this game involve other players.
Coupled with the psychology of trust, a few things in particular stand out to me about what separates this game from anything else. Each of these elements is great by itself, but it's in combination with each other that makes it shine.
First and foremost, choices matter more than any other game I've played. Not in a narrative sense, but in a very tangible sense of risk vs. reward.
Secondly, the sound design of the game is unparalleled. While the game is solid visually, the sound is phenomenal. It sounds good enough until you are on high alert - then you notice everything. It's not that the game changes any volumes, it's that your ears prick up and analyse every little detail.
Third, and the single thing that I've seen no other game encapsulate perfectly, is the quote often used to describe war: hours of idleness punctuated by moments of intense fear. When you hear the crack of a bullet whizzing past your head, or the howl of wolves when you are a kilometre from the nearest building, or footsteps when you don't want to hear them... nothing will make your heart race faster.
DayZ is a very good game, but more importantly it's a phenomenal experience. It's not for everyone, but those it is for will absolutely love it.
Extremely shitty made game thats now become money hungry as fuck, increasing the base price of the game to 50 and releasing a shitty map dlc for 27 dollars, game is completely community carried and lacking lots of base content, base content is also extremely buggy and annoying to deal with, game still has crashing problems in 2024, shits not worth.
Things I learned from DayZ from under 100 hours of gameplay (I will update this review in time)
1. Always trust your instincts (If a player is sus, never fully trust them and be cautious)
2. Trust a solo player who's fishing/sitting by a fireplace who says "I'm friendly" until proven otherwise
3. Be wary of duos - especially if one's a Talker and the other is a Quiet lad who tries to move out of your sight - most likely they're gonna shoot you or stab you from behind
4. No mic, no life (learned this the hard way, they were on discord and I got ambushed)
5. Don't take betrayals personally, especially expect it from overly enthusiastic squeakers/Gen Alphas
6. If you have morals/integrity and don't like to betray others - Keep fighting the good fight, one player at a time, it goes a long way
7. You can play solo and avoid every player, but what makes the game fun are the interactions
8. High risk, high reward
9. Meet new companions at spawn, the further you move away from the coast, the harder and riskier it is to team up with others
10. Never believe someone who has their gun out who says "I'm friendly" unless they put away their gun
11. Eating wolf and bear fat are safe and won't give you Salmonella or food poisoning
12. Get rid of gear fear, this game is not about loot but more on the experience itself overall. Respawning and dying is part of the game.
13. If your teammate is on discord with another, expect things to go south
14. Be neutral, expect betrayal
15. Community servers generally have higher quality of players who are keen to interact, less likely to KOS(Kill on Sight), less likely to have cheaters, compared to the Official servers
16. Vanilla DayZ has base-building, if that's a turnoff, join Hardcore servers which are just pure adventures and no base raiding
17. Don't tell the new guy you just met that your health is in the red
18. Drop your backpack somewhere before entering a hot pvp zone(military camps are always KOS)
19. Namalsk is hardcore, and has a lot of player interactions due to the smaller map. Sakhal is easier than Namalsk. Chernarus is the easiest map to learn.
Loving this game so far. The initial learning curve is tough, but I enjoy the game more now that I've more hours in.
If you have any tips or advice you can give to new or old players alike, feel free to drop it in the comments below
1. Concept and Gameplay: 8/10
DayZ is an open-world survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a pandemic. The game stands out for its brutal difficulty, realism, and lack of direct guidance for the player. The main objective is simple: survive as long as possible by managing resources like food, water, medical supplies, and avoiding dangers, especially zombies, but more importantly, other players who can be both allies or enemies.
The gameplay is characterized by its slow pace and immersive nature. Every decision has consequences, and mistakes can be deadly. Combat with zombies, resource scavenging, and managing vital needs (health, temperature, etc.) are central aspects. One of the strengths of DayZ is the complete freedom it offers, but this freedom can also lead to frustration for players unprepared for the challenge, as there are no clear objectives or directions to guide the player.
On the other hand, the survival system is very comprehensive: managing hunger, thirst, health, and injuries (infection, malnutrition, etc.) makes for a highly realistic and immersive experience. However, this complexity may overwhelm some players, particularly those who prefer more action-oriented gameplay or games with clear objectives.
2. Atmosphere and Immersion: 9/10
The atmosphere in DayZ is one of its greatest strengths. The open world is vast, realistic, and incredibly detailed, with abandoned towns, forests, mountains, and varied landscapes. The weather, day-night cycle, and environmental sounds (wind, zombie footsteps, vehicle noises, etc.) all contribute to the immersive experience.
The feeling of solitude is ever-present, amplified by the lack of clear markers and constant uncertainty. Danger can come from anywhere, and the tension is palpable with every encounter, whether it’s with an idle zombie or another player. The fact that other players are also a potential threat creates an atmosphere of constant suspicion and paranoia, which is both thrilling and stressful.
The game doesn’t have a fixed storyline, but its lack of direction allows for a personal story to emerge for each player, shaped by interactions and choices. The devastated locations tell the story of the past catastrophe, and every exploration feels like a journey into the unknown.
3. Multiplayer and Cooperation: 8/10
DayZ is primarily a multiplayer game, and this is where it truly shines. Player interactions can range from friendly cooperation to outright betrayal. The social aspect of the game is central, as there are no fixed factions, and everything depends on the behavior of other players. Some players seek cooperation, while others prefer to go solo or take a hostile approach.
Cooperation mechanics are interesting, but players often face fragile trust situations. For instance, two players might team up to defend against zombies or explore together, but once they’re in a safe area, it’s hard to know if one of them will decide to betray the other to steal their gear.
DayZ servers are often filled with players pursuing varied objectives, which adds a dynamic layer to every session. However, the lack of direct communication options (other than voice chat or text) can sometimes make cooperation more difficult.
4. Replayability and Longevity: 9/10
The replayability of DayZ is immense. Given the size of the open world and the dynamic nature of the game, each session feels different. Encounters with other players, places to explore, items to gather, and decisions to make all change with every new session. Moreover, the fact that death in the game is permanent (if you die, you lose everything) makes every moment precious, and every decision crucial.
Regular updates and the addition of new gameplay elements, such as vehicles, new weapons, or survival items, also help maintain player interest over the long term. Community servers allow for personalized experiences with specific rules or game modes, offering even more variety.
5. Accessibility: 7/10
One of the aspects that might deter some players from DayZ is its steep learning curve. The game doesn’t offer detailed tutorials, so new players must either figure things out on their own or look for external guides to understand the survival mechanics. Inventory management, item interactions, and environmental interactions can feel overwhelming at first, but with practice, they become more intuitive.
The game is not very accessible to casual players due to its difficulty and slow pacing. Additionally, while it doesn’t require an ultra-powerful PC, DayZ may experience performance issues on older systems, especially on servers with many players or during intense situations.
6. Bugs and Performance: 6/10
One of the biggest drawbacks of DayZ remains its bugs and performance issues. Although the game has evolved over the years, it still suffers from technical problems, including crashes, lag issues, and gameplay bugs (for example, glitchy animations, disappearing items, or enemies that suddenly appear). This can ruin the experience, especially when a player has invested a lot of time into a session only to lose their character due to a bug.
The game’s engine has been criticized for its stability, and technical issues remain persistent even after several years of development. These technical aspects can make the game frustrating for some players, particularly those seeking a smoother experience.
Conclusion: 8/10
DayZ is a captivating, deep, and demanding survival game that offers an immersive experience in a vast, unforgiving open world. Its realistic approach to survival and player interaction makes for a unique experience, but its difficulty, bugs, and performance issues can be obstacles for some players. If you're ready to dive into a game that requires patience, strategy, and a lot of perseverance, DayZ provides a rewarding experience with nearly endless replayability. However, it’s important to note that the learning curve is steep, and frustration can quickly set in, especially if you encounter technical bugs.
So much nothing in this game. Walk around forever looking for food. If you finally manage to get some good gear, you'll die because there's a glitch that won't allow the bandages to apply.
It sucked ten years ago in alpha, still no good.
Hackers ruin the game. I love playing Vanilla. Private servers are 99% of the time laggy peer 2 peer. I'm so sick of this company not doing anything about it, I swear they just ban them but don't fix the hacks so they will buy another copy... This game is screwed
This game is fun but not like minecraft fun more like shoving glass shards in your ass and having a bath in tobasco sause fun
Trek beautiful landscapes as you discover the awe inspiring locations of Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal. Sneak, plan and defend against the hordes or even your fellow man.
But wait!!! You fell a little too high? Dead.
Oh you wanted to slide down a ladder without gloves? You're bleeding. Don't worry patch your wound with a bandage, wait you tried to use a non-disinfected rag? Are you stupid? Wound infection. Dead.
Maybe you're doing well, surviving a little. Wait whats that? A bear? A pack of wolves? Who cares you have a hundred bullets of ammo that isn't for you gun. Dead.
But maybe the wildlife and locals aren't enough to kill you... its been days and you've finally seen a player. Two choices, trust them or fight them. You trust them. Dead. Maybe you don't. You take a couple of shots off in the distance. You miss. After all you've had this gun since the beginning but haven't dared to use it. You don't know its recoil pattern. But that doesn't matter, the gun jams. You're sat looking a man running at you with a gun which you better believe won't jam on him. Dead.
Anyways... would recommend. Great game. 10/10
Started, killed 2 fullgear guys, then killed another 2 guys, went to Airfield Vybor, looted Airfield, found a perfect place for a base, but first went to another millitary at the edge of the map. As i was leaving i got grenaded and then killed by some guy with a machine gun and lost about 6-7 hours of proggress. 9/10 (All on Official with 30 players)
Hackers are fucking EVERYWHERE. I realize now it ain't worth playing, even if I bought this game when it was on sale. Can't do shit without being remotely killed randomly.
i really like this game but why cant we play a friends only or offline mode?
i want to enjoy the building etc part of the game, and as a casual player, i cant because everyone always ends up killing me and after i get completely lost and lose all my progress, i understand thats part of the game but an offline mode or friends only mode would provide a learning curve aswel as people like me enjoying the games building side of things, hunting, getting cars to work etc...
i hate the fact if your new here, you have a HUGE disadvantage...
i like the game but i donno if ill be buying any dlcs etc for it.. its annoying me already..
The survival experience at the heart of the game is a compelling journey with challenges and depth that can be incredibly fulfilling. However, problems that affect both official and community servers constantly erode this potential, making the whole experience frustrating for many players.
On official servers, cheaters are a common issue that detracts from what should be an engaging and competitive gaming experience. Because of the seemingly nonexistent efforts to prevent cheating, players are left vulnerable, which frequently prompts them to seek safety on community servers. Unfortunately, these servers are not the ideal haven that many people seek. While they may promise enhanced rule sets and improved moderation, many fail to deliver on this promise due to their own shortcomings.
Owners and their administrative teams often display toxic behaviour, which taints community servers. Power abuse is widespread, with many players receiving unjust punishments or even community bans for subjective or minor infractions. A hostile and erratic experience that can equal or even surpass the problems encountered on official servers is produced by this toxic culture.
Ultimately, these structural issues frequently overshadow the attractive survival landscape and interesting mechanics. Players find it challenging to fully enjoy what the game has to offer because of the dominance of cheaters, the toxic behaviour of many server owners, and the uneven moderation, which creates an environment that falls short of its potential.
big learning curve, but its meant to be like real life, if you think it'd be easy in real life think again lol. this game captures what areal life apocalypse would be very well, so much so u even have to have the right blood type for transfusions, if ur character dont got a mask while someone coughs next to u, u can get sick so on. its really fuckin realistic, animations aren't the best but the experience in features alone makes up for it by far, 100/100 would rebuy and start again anytime
I just love the game! Every run writes a new story and the game is so immersive ive never thought i will have that much fun. Its not for everyone tho but if you like to run for 1-2 hours in the wilderness by yourself, or myb 1-2 friends which you met while playing you will love this game
So over priced and hyped for something this old and runs like ass. its a starving sim.
the photos and vids above does not represent any part of what i played
This game, while a lot of fun, completely lacks the mod support needed for any co-op game. The player is forced to play modded servers because "official" is riddled with hackers. The problem with that is, there are infinite amounts of compatibility and bug issues.
I spent 3 hours this morning trying to find a new server after I lost all of my gear on a death run when my server crashed. "Go back to your old server instead of starting on a new server." you might say. Good advice on the surface but I was only there because I found myself invested before I understood what I had gotten into. The bugs - having to exit the server after every failed fishing attempt because it froze my inventory and stuff like that - and the server atmosphere weren't exactly what I was after to begin with.
There's a huge community for this game and if you dig hard enough or compromise enough, you can find some joy in playing it. I wanted an authentic survival experience. Most servers have brokers/traders that trivialize the survival part at which point the game becomes an arms race and base building game - like a discount fortnite with survival elements and corpse runs.
I want to love this game but I just can't put in the extra hours it takes to find the fixes needed to make it work.
I thought I'd be chilling in the wilderness, making a fire, cooking beans and maybe chatting up the occasional survivor. Yeah no. About five minutes in I'm crouched in a pitch-black building holding a knife like it's Excalibur while some zombie horde claw at the door like I owe them money.
The scenery? Beautiful. The atmosphere? Immersive. The game? Pure panic disguised as survival. I love it and hate it in equal measure - half the time I'm sneaking around like a terrified racoon jumping at every twig snap, the other half I'm jumped by other players and wondering why I thought I'd make it out alive.
So here's the catch: don't get attached to anything. Not your character, not your stuff or the friendly stranger you split beans with. Honestly, I've learned to say goodbye the moment I spawn.
absolute ass cheeks
spend like 2 hours trying to figure out why the fucking game wont launch:
1. install the fucking experimental just to copy and paste some config files,
2. have the game launch but without battle eye,
3. white fucking knuckle my way through battle eye issue after battle eye issue
4. reinstall already up to date drivers, magically get the game to work
5. play for 3 minutes only to die to zombies that can now run faster than you and then
6. stuck on a black screen not respawning
safe yourself and your piece of mind and remove this dogshit from your account
Bad company that provides very bad service.
1- Game Official server are infested with Hackers/cheaters and the Boehmia does 0 about it.
2- Every new version brings another money maker for them and more bugs for us.
3- There is no way to actually contact or get help from the game developers, you buy the game and from there on you do no exist anymore, unless you wanna buy the new DLC and then u exist for a while.
DO NOT give them 1 more dollar, they dont deserve it.
Do NOT buy this game, it will just get your addicted at first, and then after getting frustrated you find yourself invested so much into it, thats you just keep going.
Find another game where there is propoer service for your product.
It genuinely pains me to NOT recommend this game to new players as obviously I have spent a lot of time playing this game and probably will continue to. I love this game, but cannot recommend to a new player because half of the time I hate it just as much, and I don't really think the reward is worth the suffering you have to endure to have an actual enjoyable experience on it. I'll summarize my thoughts on this game in 3 main points, one good, one bad, and one neutral.
1: Time (Neutral)
DayZ is not a game to play after work or school or if you have any obligation that day whatsoever. When you play this game, get ready to dedicate 2 hours just to finding a good server and meeting up with your friends so you can actually start doing something 'fun'. That's if you're lucky and don't die in the process. Sure, you can play a modded server with infinite sprint. a group system and a map, but then everybody on the server groups up in huge clans, and run in packs from each military base. It ruins the fundamentals of the game which are built on exploration, curiosity, and desperation. DayZ is all about the journey, and the friends you make along the way. If you're playing this game to run around and shoot people, you can do that. It would probably just be more fun on Tarkov or Warzone. There is NO instant gratification in this game. Everything you have to earn, and everything WILL be lost eventually. This game will constantly leave you feeling like you just haven't had enough, either by being so fun and exciting that you don't ever want to play any other game again, or by being so broken and unfulfilling that it sucks you in looking for that excitement it once gave you, only to chew you up and spit you out at the end wondering where the previous 12 hours went.
2: Fear adrenaline, trauma, and bonding (Good)
DayZ has always done one thing right, and for awhile, it was the only non horror game capable of evoking this genuine fear, and in some respects, it still is. It's not just fear in the sense that you don't want the scary monster to appear on the screen, it's an actual fear of loss. The more time you spend alive, the more you feel like you should be dead, and it's almost a breath of fresh air to respawn on the coast because you don't have to carry the burden of your gear on your shoulders anymore. You are always a target to other players, and you become so scared, other players are always a target to you. Sometimes, and I mean sometimes, someone will miss a shot or run out of ammo or get knocked unconscious instead of dying, and in those instances, you have a chance to use your voice chat and make a friend! Just remember, at the end of the day, everyone wants their life to last longer than yours. Trust nobody, until you do. This would be a stronger point and would be THE ONLY GOOD REASON to buy and play DayZ if you haven't already, but, It's just not a good enough reason by todays' standards in gaming. With so many popular survival, battle royale and extraction shooters out nowadays, such as Escape from Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown, Rust, Project Zomboid, Stalker, Etc. There is sadly, becoming less of a need for DayZ, with newer, more polished games coming out that evoke the same feeling that Dayz does. Not to mention the Arma: Reforger DayZ mod which I believe has lots of potential to be a better Dayz experience than the standalone game if given some time. This leads me to my next point;
3: Performance (bad)
This game runs like shit, and it's aging poorly. I have a 4070, 12600k, 32gb of DDR4 4000, and an SSD and this game still has constant hitches, stutters, freezes, and crashes after YEARS of support and updates. It's genuinely unacceptable how badly optimized this game is, and how little effort the devs put in to making it more stable. There have been false promises for stability patches for YEARS, but I given up hope on ever being able to run the game smoothly. I have done months worth of research to pinpoint the reason, I've upgraded my PC, tried a completely different PC, new monitors, adjusted my mouse polling rate, tinkered with the cfg file and shortened my render distance, etc. etc. etc. Nothing works. For awhile, I had convinced myself that there was some setting I was missing, that if I just put in a little more time optimizing my PC or if I bought a newer, better part the game would finally run well. I am here to warn any potential new player once and for all; this game runs like HOT GARBAGE and it always will. Expect to lose progress to glitches and crashes that aren't your fault, expect your time to feel wasted. It's going to happen.
In summary, I can't recommend DayZ to a new player because personally, I just have not gotten back what I've put into this game, and it's very disappointing. I RELUCTANTLY DO NOT RECOMMEND DAYZ. but do recommend Escape from Tarkov or the DayZ Arma mod if you want the same experience. DayZ started something great, it's just not that great anymore. :(
Dayz is a game I have put over 1000 hours of my life into, mostly do to with roleplay pve/pvp, it's come to the realization of me and many others in my respected community that the Dayz devs do not care about their playerbase. Bohemia is the reason I wanted a pc, I wanted to play arma, and I wanted to play modded Dayz, it's truly all I ever wanted when I was a kid. But with the new perspective of adulthood it's clear that the devs DO NOT CARE about their customers. It's not about the enjoyment of the product it is strictly about the amount of money they can make. Sprinkling snow on a Arma map, while reusing assets from past maps and older Bohemia games is NOT dlc material, and yet it's all we receive most of the time. And if you attempt to go outside this cycle of hackers, glitches, grinding, and stupitidy, and try for example to play on a modded server, you run a risk of being falsely Battle eye banned, leaving you without access to not only Dayz, but also other games such as Rainbow six Siege, PUBG, and GTA V. I can say Dayz is not all bad, if it was I simply wouldn't have put as much time as I had into it, but it requires you to find a server you can play on consistently, if you like to play vanilla, congrats: you are a perfect Bohemia guinea pig, all power too you. But say for example you want to play a modded server, it requires you to pray to the gods that are the devs to not only ban you, but to also hope that they don't decimate their modding community more then they already have, causing mods to be taken off the workshop, and falling in line with the chain reaction, making THEIR OWN COMMUNITY SERVERS UNPLAYABLE, oh and not to mention THE SERVER OWNERS PAY FOR THE SERVERS, I can say for absolute certain that the modding community of this game puts more work into the game then the actual developers. From my standpoint it's much better to wait to see if Bohemia ever decides to change whoever is running the Dayz department and focus on their community, and maybe enjoy a game we can all love like we used to.
people just camp fresh spawns killing you before you even have chance to venture out played for hour half trying to find loot to die by someone camping in the tree line
Deerisle & Banov have been removed from Steam, without this map DayZ is worthless! It's a disgrace what Bohemia did with this shitty 1.26 and Frostline map. Shame on you
I had a lot of fun with this game.
But update 1.26 (Frostline) has a number of bugs that make things very difficult for modders.
The result of this update is that the most popular maps are no longer available.
Due to the 1.26 update, they messed up there builder tools which made almost every custom map unplayable. Please fix this Bohemia as soon as possible so all of us could go back to enjoying our custom maps made by talented individuals.
I spawned on Sakhal and a man fully geared drove up, got out of his car with a full auto firearm and asked what I needed, I told him I was a fresh spawn and he dropped beans and told me to take them then drove off.... I was concerned he would return to take them back but never did. 10/10 would be frighted again
I've been playing this game in PVE as PVP is very difficult for me for various reasons. Since the recent major update, the game is nearly unplayable. I didn't realize this was going to affect Chernarus and Livonia game play. The reduction in clothing and backpack inventory angered me completely. Getting sick constantly is extremely aggravating. Tainted predator meat, even after cooking is extremely aggravating. The bottom line is the game went from entertaining to overly difficult and frustrating in the extreme. This is the problem I have with online games, others control the content and make changes that are rarely thought through for ALL customers (players). The only good thing I can say is that at least you don't have to pay through the nose every few months for a season pass like with Destiny 2. The developers have succeeded in forcing me out of the game.
Game is Retarded. You got 30 mins to find 12lbs of food and start a fire or you're dead. or else killed spawn killed by a player. The food water requirement is way to insane to be realistic. if your food bar hits zero you got 5 mins to find food in fully looted town or you start over. I died 10 time in 3 hours, mostly from lack of resources. Played Dayz from the first Rocket hall mod, and i must say this i the worst I have ever seen. Just Stupid. you can bleed out puling branches off a tree. never seen so much dumb ass stuff in my life. do something else until they fix it.
This game can be quite amazing. Love just wandering the wilds looting and surviving from what ever the server throws at me. Building your base where ever you want is so awesome and I love building especially with the building mods. It can be quite clunky, but no where near the clunky disaster arma is. I only play the PvE servers since players can be quite toxic. Honestly the best way to experience Dayz is the custom servers. So much content made by amazing people.
Setting up your own server really shouldnt be as complicated and time consuming as it is.. it should be as simple as project zomboid but its a million miles from that.. spend hours upon hours copy and pasting codes into hopefully the correct spot only to start everything up and now no zombies spawn... its honestly pretty stupid and cudos to the people that set servers up. Setting up a server, especially a lan server, should be as easy as joining a server with mods. Seriously, pz nails it.
BI should consider hiring the modders that have created so much for this game and fixed SO many problems the devs have created. So many maps released over the years, so much content, all by modders. The devs go and release a single map dlc and it breaks the entire game for the people that play on community servers and dont want to buy frostline(Ive played namalsk, im good). They really seems like they have no idea what theyre doing. The game also is over priced so wait for a sale
5/5 game but it just suffers from a poor engine and dev team. The community keeps the game held high
Bohemia clearly doesn't know what they are doing. Update 1.26 shows that. So in pursuit of realism, they decided to reduce inventory size on everything, and that's fine. But they increased food and water needs by like 50%, I say.
Since we have a realistic game, a normal person can live on 2-3 food cans a day. I hunted and killed a deer and had to eat 70% of it to get a full apple.
Why didn't they reduce some item sizes, increase/decrease, etc.?
Don't get me started on zombie AI. Instead of fixing AI, they decided to increase sensitivity, so now zombies detect you from miles away through buildings, trees, and bushes, jumping through building walls. Now I see this whole time I wasn't fighting zombies; I was fighting Jedi Knights.
This game had so much potential 10 years ago. Now? It's still the same, buggy, boring, mess. The game is borderline unplayable without mods, and so, every multiplayer server worth a damn has to run like, 200ish mods for the game to be passable. Go play Project Zomboid. Do not play this.
Played this game on another account 4 years ago, decided to try it again, has anything changed now? No, it's still bad. It's a raw and buggy game that feels more like a fan mod for Arma than a full-fledged game. Instead of patches with fixes and content, the developers release new maps and sell them separately. Good thing I got it at a 50% discount, but it's still a bit pricey for this piece of code.
the ups an downs, the toxic community, the hacker player base. the launcher getting takin over by the chinese.
the lack of "devs" to take care of the hackers on "official" servers. ive spent way to long on this game .. spent to much money on to many copies to make memories with "friends", Lets release a dlc thats almost the cost of the game when it released. Thats the fork in the road for me. Hope you have the best downfall one can have as a video game/ Developer.
Love it, hate it... toxic players... but still the best Zombie Survival game there is ... well arma 2 dayz mod was better IMHO!!! to fully enjoy the game as a casual gamer go for private/community servers
5,640 hours to date. Was a great game but after latest update the game is now RIP. The devs are taking this game "in my opinion" the complete wrong direction. The last few changes they have made to the game mechanics are just shocking. Having to make a fire every 20 mins is just not fun and the decrease in inventory size is just shameful. The new map is just empty which just creates a running simulator game. I play both community and official servers. Again the game has to rely on the mod community to fix and reverse the changed the Dev's have made. Official is certainly RIP for me. Think the Dev's need to lay off the SMOKE!
Yeah, this update stinks. F*cked over community servers, that have carefully crafted their mods and adjustments. Alot of stuff is reset. Probably takes 100+ hours to fix. Get rekt Bohemia, you are killing your base right now while catering to the casuals that will be gone next month out of boredom.
The recent update, gives us alot to think about the future of DayZ. They announced the new map/dlc in April.
They went full marketing with teasers, streams etc.
Yet on release day, they can't get their official servers to run and even community servers were up and running hours before official. Community did not have access to the files before launch day! Community servers are your backbone Bohemia!!! Without community servers your game is dead, because official is full of cheater clans, yes clans not singular players, full on organized cheater clans.
Then they messed up their own launcher to the point people who didn't buy the DLC couldn't even log into a Chernarus server. And people who bought the DLC couldn't get onto official servers.
Then, they released patch notes, for an update they've been building for 6 months (SIX MONTHS) that has dozens of lines of known problems already that will be "investigated and patched in a later update".
Get real Bohemia, stop giving us new content if that means old content will be unplayble. FIX YOUR SH*T!
My favourite game of all time this shit slap. When i play this game I can't stop playing for several hours it just draws you in. Really hard to get used to and hard to learn the combat but kills feel so rewarding. If you like survival game this is one of the best.
Going to preface this by saying I actually like the game, its complicated and very enjoyable because of it. However, the Devs are so amateur that this game can seem like something that is being made by teenagers in a hichschool comp sci lab. The new DLC broke the game again in the exact same way as Livonia did when it came out, how the hell have they not figured this out after it already happened with the last DLC? I am honestly having a hard time giving the devs the benefit of the doubt after the stunt they pulled on mod makers. If a dev team is embarrassed by a modder fixing a known issue that has been publicly complained about for years now instead of being grateful then maybe they shouldn't be devs. Honestly, if a modder can make you look bad as a dev, you are a bad dev and deserve to look bad.
