Druidstone: The Secret of the Menhir Forest is a labor of love from the co-creators of the critically acclaimed Legend of Grimrock series. Druidstone is a tactical, single-player, turn-based roleplaying game, which combines the best qualities of modern RPGs with the elegance of tactical boardgames. Every action, every turn counts as you control your party of heroes through handcrafted, challenging missions with varying, and often surprising, objectives.
Set in a unique fantasy world, Druidstone is filled with ancient lush forests, standing stones, snow-topped mountains, deadly creatures and puzzle-ridden ruins. And somewhere in the middle of all of this, caught in the flow of events, are Aava, the archdruid's daughter, who must now shoulder his responsibilities, Leonhard, a warden with a mysterious past and a lethal destiny, and Oiko, the failed Red Priest who is living proof that one may be very smart without being particularly wise. Along the way, they meet companions and villains, whose unique personalities and abilities make every encounter memorable.

Well made and quite fun, nice graphics and a nice little story.
Very clever and addictive, just the essence of strategic RPG ;)
hell yeah. esp for 80% off
The game doesn't weigh itself down trying to do to many things and is almost a little simple compared to other games in this day and age. Pretty linear story progression, your characters can't be swapped out and pretty much have their own abilities and such. Its an isometric tactics game with pretty straightforward mechanics but the mission scenarios are built well enough the difficulty requires being smart with your builds and moves. That does mean it is possible to have to grind if you are having trouble to get more resources but it is very beatable with just decent tactical wits. Tho the little group you play with are kinda a simple bunch, they form enough of an attachment beating the game leaves a nice sense of satisfaction. A relatively short game compared to other tactic games, but a decent not so comfy tactical rpg to play thru.
Bought this game because it was made by the devs of The Legend of Grimrock and was not disappointed. Beautiful graphics, fun and challenging gameplay, but all very intuitive and easy to pick up. RPG elements let you customize your characters playstyles.
I look forward to whatever they make next!
Puzzle game pretending to be tactical combat.
OK so I actually like the game but I just cant get far. Its terribly frustrating. I guess I suck at tactical games although I play them alot but I can barely make it through the first couple levels forget about secondary objectives. If they just has an easy mode...
It is more a puzzle game than a tactical combat RPG. Very nicely done and polished, but not my type of games.
The game is very polarizing, but a real gem if given a shot.
It's got a rough start which makes it look more unforgiving than it really is, but if you play in Normal it quickly stops being a problem due to your options broadening and letting you control the fights more. Timed missions are common, but rarely lead to major consequence- usually you can just keep fighting without headaches.
It does a great job at capturing the fairy tale atmosphere, the aesthetics are campy and great- and gameplay has an element of uncertainty and threat during fights that makes victory very satisfying. It's also really not a puzzle game at all, in fact it's ripe with different viable approaches within the limits of its cast.
The story is passable, but the writing is terrible. There really should've been someone reading the script and making sure it was tonally coherent because you can't have people whose expletives are "Bloody roots!" and "Oh, seeds of the forest" at the same time as others call someone a b*tch (it happens often).
Overall if one engages with the systems of the game it's a very rewarding experience. There are new enemies and environments with cool mechanics being introduced until the end, and while there are only 35 missions, I could see other games stretching all those unique ideas a lot more.
PS: The Incurable has the key. The reward is really worth the drawbacks.
Great turn based tactics game.
Very fun game, turn based RPG fun battles and nice progression. Story is ok but the gameplay is good and there are bonus objectives during the battles at give a bit more challenge to the missions. Recommened for sure.
Really great turn based game with plenty of challenge on Normal. Perfect length and just a well designed game.
This game is realy trying hard to force you asleep! It is trying to, at any cost knock you unconscious. The story is so boring that reading the dialogue is akin to actively snorting chloroform for an hour. The game would be charming but considering it is a story driven turn based RPG with a terrible story, and fails again with dumb UI where you have to click on a skill to find out what it does, apparently the technology of hovering your mouse over an icon is simply far to advanced. So if you want to find out what a skill does you have to use it and then cancel it... Fantastic. Try it out at a discount, or when you want to kill yourself with boredom.
I`ve been having a great time with this game, and I`m glad to say it totally works on the Steam Deck.
Pure fun!
This is often on sale, so it is a must buy to any tactical rpg fan. 4 characters very different among themselves and all super fun. Several clever abilities and a great variety of objectives. The bad? Too short tbh, there is some replay value to get all the side quests but that is all.
I won't go into describing the game much—you can see that from the videos. But I wanted to say this:
The other day, I read a sentence from one of the reviewers saying, "If you are on the fence with this one, don't be." Prior to reading that, I was, and man, after 6 hours of gameplay, I know what he meant.
1. I like turn-based games very much, but paradoxically, I don't consider myself to be very good at them. I usually just end up reloading botched missions, learning from my mistakes sooner or later.
2. I was afraid that this game would be really punishing, for all the reactions like, "Every move matters. Everything is a puzzle." etc.
3. I usually hate timed goals.
The truth is that I had to repeat missions once or twice (sometimes three or four times), and despite that, I didn't feel the game was punishing. I knew instantly what my mistakes were, when I had made some, and I could've learned from those quickly.
The more skilled and better equipped your characters get in between the missions, the more space there is for various approaches to the same battle. Don't listen to people saying negative stuff, like there isn't, because that'd be a sad and bitter exaggeration. Sometimes it's very tight, sometimes you are given almost free reign. It's very nicely paced in this regard, and neither mission feels the same.
Last but not least, even though at least 1/3 of the missions were timed, I was able to finish them even with the bonus goals, not ending up feeling frustrated.
Yeah, don't be on the fence with this one.
Fantasy RPG. Not too long. Turn-based tactic and some puzzles.
Relaxing (on easy), pleasant music, sound and art. Story is good enough.
Overall quality game. Recommended.
Don't fuck with the forest guys!
One of the best turn-based crpg's I've played in awhile. Each move you make has consequences, and one wrong move can doom the whole battle. Everything has to be taken into account to hit all of your objectives - environment, traps, efficiency of movement, time limit, reinforcements, etc... Use traps, gates, and exploding items against your enemies before they use them on you... Reminds me of Blackguards but with a more lighthearted atmosphere. Highly recommend if you enjoy turn-based combat and putting careful thought into each move, kind of like chess.
for the pricetag of 21€ it´s a tough sell.
got it for 3.77€, which is immediatly is a 100% recommend.
This game is not an RPG. It's basically a puzzle game. It consists of a set of missions on tiny maps with tight time limit. This means there're very few ways to beat a level. Also it doesn't have a "save" option, only "save and quit".
Fun but hard
