good game for sale
movement could be improved but its not bad
It's simple.
Music slaps.
Mostly challenging levels, a few fun vast ones.
Not much to say.
Fun little game with 155 well-crafted levels.
There are a few unusual mechanics such as being able to jump mid-air once after a walljump. This means there is a LOT of pressing left and right repeatedly as fast as you can to climb vertical walls quickly - which I thought is fun but it can be physically hard on the fingers after a while.
~9 hours to 100% completion, decent game, maybe not for $10 but it regularly goes on a -90% sale. Achievements only pop after closing the game and can take several restarts to properly show up but they work.
Solid platformer. Wall jumping feels a bit weird at first but it didn't take too long to get used to it and it allows some good level designs in later levels. Game isn't incredibly hard (it's quite hard tho) but getting 3 stars felt challenging and rewarding enough.
The game has one of the worst things a platformer can have, the feeling that "it wasn't my fault, it was the game's fault". The acceleration system is really bad, you get a sudden speed and most of the time, what is there to help you gets in your way. The game could first, use a better indicator to show that speed build-up so the player can ready themselves and a longer cayote time when that speed boost is active.
WORTH EVERY CENT GAME!
I had 1 dollar to spend on steam. I searched for games cheaper than that. And I found this game (it was on sale). Initially, I thought it would be boring, but I changed my mind. This game is so good, and I kept playing it more and more until I finished it (by the way, I played it offline so it wasn’t recorded and won’t show the actual time recorded).
Quick Score: 3/5
Notes: Pretty generic platformer with a bizzare wall climb/jump mechanic. For 10$ this is a hard pass, but if you can pick it up on sale for the regular 90% off I think it's good enough for a playthrough.
PRO TIP: The games wall jump mechanic is incredibly painful if you try to hold the controller regularly. The optimal way to play this game I discovered pretty early on is to move with left analog stick, jump with Left trigger, and then hold the right analog stick with your thumb and 2 fingers and use it like an actual joystick for the climbing sections.
TLDR; Not worth the $1 I bought it for on sale.
Can't say I recommend this game at all, even on sale. The physics feels really awful, the walljump mechanics are probably the worst I've ever seen, and a large portion of the level design is just uninteresting or annoying. It isn't fun to complete casually and it isn't fun to 100% either. There's plenty of better cheap platformers to play, go play one of those.
Very fun and very easy, baby's second game, with first game being Super Meat Boy.
Has what is almost certainly the worst physics I've experienced in any platformer I've played so far.
Asset flipped achievement spam trash felt better to play than this.
Free wouldn't be cheap enough.
This game is like a mixture of super mario and mega man without enemies.
You basically just jump and try to land on where to go without falling off or getting hit.
It's a cheap game don't buy it full price get it on sale.
I wouldn't recommend buying this game unless you want to waste money or just try it for yourself.
Even though I want to think as a game on its own, it really feels like Super Meat Boy without the fluidity and the blood
It always feels very stiff and it physically hurts my thumb going left and right for 5 minutes
This is a game with a special wall jump technique that I personally don't really enjoy and because of that I'm pretty positive it's impossible to beat this game with keyboard, you will need a controller for this game.
Cons:
-Achievements unlock only when you close the game, and 'beat world x tier x' achievements is bugged sometimes and you have to replay some levels again to unlock it.
-No option to change keybinds and vibration.
Solid low budget platformer. It is a challenge to complete every level, but the real challenge is to complete a level in the devs set 3 star time. Those times are on the spot and mostly only beatable by 0.1 seconds. So this game requires you to find the optimal path and perform optimal.
The usual platform gameplay has a few twists:
- traveling 1 second in one direction makes you boost your speed until you let go of the direction key
- walljumping is not done with the jump button but by pressing the direction key away from the wall
- double jumps are not possible on the ground but only if jumping off a wall and changing the direction
The latter mechanic makes for some interesting possible difficult to perform movements.
Climbing up a wall by changing direction keys left/right as fast as possible is heavily used in this game and this is a small negative, because most of the times you're jiggling your joystick/dpad or keyboard keys like a maniac getting your fingers tired. Also there are several levels where you need to wait for a platform to slowly move on for you to be guided over the pit. These take out the nature of speed of this game a bit. But those are small negatives.
Supports DS4 controller, but sadly doesn't support dpad in the game. Fortunately this is possible with DS4Windows, because I found the dpad to be the best option to perform the walljumps to quickly climb the wall.
All in all a decent cheap platformer which can be 100%ed within 4 hours.
This game is ridiculously hard. The required times for 3 Stars are insanity, have fun going through demonic fast-paste action in order to accomplish 100% completion.
The controls on the keyboard are horrible and even the gamepad controls aren't good, If this game intrigues you, I wouldn't buy it for $9.99 as it isn't worth $9.99. I would wait for a sale like how I got it for $0.99. I will continue to play the game to see how my review changes.
This is a skill based platformer with three star challenges for each stage. I have three stars for each of the first 13 levels so far. Two of the stages (stages 11 and 12) were notably challenging. I can imagine the rest of the game is challenging, too.
It's pretty good. The graphics are simple but do make it easy to tell what to do in each level.
I wouldn't say that the platforming mechanics are great, but they do work well for a speedrun-type game.
Overall, there is quite a lot of content, so if you're into precision platforming, you'll probably enjoy this.
Simple and clean platformer with a large variety of increasingly demanding puzzles and trials. Quick to pick up and play. Easy to learn, but difficult to master. You have complete air control and high friction which might take a bit of getting used to, but lends to the high speed of the puzzles once you get the hang of it. Rapid restart and death cycles so you're not spending a lot of time waiting as you're crunching through trying to shave off just a few more miliseconds.
Highly reccomend for you platformer fans that like a challenge.
This game is one of the best hardcore platformers out there. It has very tight controls, the levels are very challenging and require you to be very precise to accomplish. Not many platformers had the kind of skillful edge that Almost there brings since Super Meat Boy. This game is hard, so hard that in some levels, I had to give over 200 trials to get three stars. I kept dying and dying and dying. I loved that it auto respawns when you die, doesn't give you enough time to feel the frustration. It's pixel perfect execution and fast-paced movement really amps up the possibility of dying as you progress along a level. But when you make it to the end, it feels so satisfying.
155 levels divided into three worlds, each world comes with a couple of unique obstacles and challenges. And I love how the game teaches different mechanics and strategies without any tutorial or dialogs. Its all baked into the beautifully crafted levels and this makes the progression of the game seamless and very pleasing.
If you really want to get three stars in the levels, you have to finish the game within a set time. This is really hard. So hard that you might have to have backup controllers.
Hats off to the developer. Totally worth the money.
