Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy - это карательная игра в скалолазание, дань уважения классическому «Sexy Hiking» 2002 года в стиле Jazzuo.

This game puzzles me. It puzzles me because I do not feel anger when I play it. Not once in my experience with this game have I ever felt like destroying something because I failed to accomplish something. I think it is because I have grown up watching streamers and Youtubers play this game, and feel immense anger. I've seen Markiplier throw his mouse at his wall, and this thought has never crossed my mind. On my first playthrough of this game, I was stuck at the orange part, after the furniture. I tried and I tried my hardest to climb those rocks and kept failing, but not once did I feel hatred towards the games developer. It was only when I reached the end that I truly felt "anger", not because the ending section was hard, but because I had been told in every conversation and review relating to this game, it had been described as infuriating and rage inducing. And yet I felt nothing. As of the time when I am writing this review, I have completed this game 20 times. And every time I come back to it, I feel as if I am a blind man staring at Michelangelo's David, unable to see its beauty and magnificence. Because this game is art, all games are art, but some games are modern art, just throwing things around with no rhyme or reason with people saying there's a meaning, or that the beauty is that there is no meaning. This is not one of those games, it is more akin to the works of Picasso, in that it's meaning is more abstract than anything. And yet whenever I play it and feel nothing, I do feel that I am spitting on his work. As I write this, I am reminded of something Bennet Foddy says when you reach the chimney, where he describes the process of creating this game, and says that his inability to surpass the obstacles he has made is his fault as a player, rather than a developer. I feel similar in that respect, because everyone else seems to feel intense anger and rage when playing this, and yet I do not. My inability to feel anger while playing this game is not his fault, as the developer, but mine, as the player. It is my fault. I am blind, while everyone else can see. This game is truly a work of art, but it is one I cannot truly appreciate, and in this respect I feel remorse, remorse that I will never be able to see this game as so many others have, as Bennet has intended for me to see it. Perhaps I shall one day understand why, but for now, I remain unenlightened.
An absolutely lovely game. However, the white circle that represents mouse cursor location is not an accurate portrayal of the mouse location. Specifically, I can cease movement of the mouse and the white circle will continue to move. You can make your game as difficult as you want, but as soon as you start lying to me about my inputs, I lose all respect for you.
Although this game may feel like something rage enducing, I think of this game as something to calm me down. The fact that no matter how much progress you may lose, you can always do it over.
Light work, difficult at some bits but the dopamine is worth it
This game is good, but not for the "game" part. it tries to convey a sense of challenge that other games apparently don't, and also tries to make you find meaning in completing the challenge. It's a good concept, and this review would be positive, if the actual mechanics weren't so frustrating. Sometimes you gain the power of a thousand sun gods, and the slightest touch of the hammer will send you careening off the mountain, but other times you'll barley be able to move. The only thing I can think of as to why this happens is because the game tries you auto-correct your mouse back to the tip of the hammer, which can sometimes give you extra force if you're going in the direction of the correction. But it only ever corrects in a way where you don't want to go. I haven't even talked about the god awful camera, which also has effects on your movement for some reason, but I'll save that for another time. Maybe it get's better later on, but as for now the game is only good for it's message.
I wasted 12.9 hours on this game just to have a different texture on a cauldron, great game.
May you all find your tallest climb, and not make it but learn from it and if you really want to get over it God will make it possible <3
Well if you play this game will hate it and wanna give up but then you will gain the courage to try again and then fail and fail and then if your built different you will complete it and then you will love it
very addicting
quite fun
Be careful you might throw your chair or break your keyboard or controller
You know what it is. It's difficult but completely consistent. If you learn it you'll feel accomplished.
This game is so good, I fell like 5 times on the dumb furniture thing then the stupid FREAKING BUCKET wasted 5 hours of my time and then i proceed to struggle with the mountain, only to get slapped in the face with the bad ending
Good game, 11/10
I love this game (on mobile, where I played it before.)
This game is great. Only problem, using a trackpad is beyond awful because of how exponentially it speeds up. When you go a little fast for 1cm it speeds up to lightning, but can go deathly slow when going normal speed across the entire thing. use a mouse.
Besides that, this game is an amazing test of psychological endurance and Bennett Foddy may have created the greatest endurance test in game form ever conceived. I have beaten this game over 25 times on mobile, but I beat it those other 24 times in about the same span that it took me to beat it the first time. I would reccomend this to anybody, but especially anybody that I hate.
Saw videos online.
Got the game.
Rage for a bit.
Got over it.
Got over it twice.
Got over it 50 times.
Love it.
10/10.
Would get over it 100 times again.
It let me appreciate every little progress made and made the ending all the more satisfying.
You will struggle. If you can live with that, buy this game. I have beaten it about a hundred times. It does get easier, you just have to be willing to fall.
Succeeded in making me lose my mind and never play it again. Only play this if you have infinite patience and don't have anger issue.
Game is really addictive and makes learning the mechanics feel so much more rewarding would recommend
It feels really good to beat it. Then you have to beat it 49 more times...
I still love it though :D
The game is as it appears. The awkward controls and unforgiving difficulty are on purpose. If you think this will do nothing but frustrate you, you're probably right. But if the challenge or anything else about this game intrigues you, I think it's worth trying. Take your time, take breaks, and if you're still struggling, don't feel bad about seeing how other people tackle some of these obstacles.
I don't feel like I can properly give this game a rating, but I will say this much: beating this game for the first time was a wonderful way to close out the year. Good luck to any and all future climbers.
this sucks. Not the controls or the game design. the pain.the pain when i finally get some progress and fall and lose it all. that is its intention through. so i guess its good.
Very Easy Mechanics
1. Buy the game
2. Get High up
3.Fall down
4.break keyboard
5.buy keyboard
6.repeat 2, 3, 4, 5
This game is as difficult as me trying to buy something without regretting it. I LITERALLY LOVE THIS GAME BUT I ALSO HATE IT AT TWO TIMES! 100% RECOMMEND!
Genuinely, so freaking amazing, loved the game, loved the stupid music that began to play after you fell, and specially loved the deep meaning this game might have had inside. Giving up is an option sure, but if you don't yield and keep on going, maybe, someday, you'll achieve whatever you were looking for, and that feeling of getting to it is genuinely amazing.
Now speaking about the game-play itself, yeah, it's really... REALLY infuriating, it takes a lot of trial and error to get to the top, it does feel fluid tho, sometimes it does feel a bit janky, but nothing that makes it unbearable, it too does sometimes move kinda by itself, or changes speed without you actually changing anything, this one time I was in the snowman, moving REALLY slowly, and suddenly it just went really quick, which sent me flying, luckily didn't fall.
That's kind of it, the good overshadows the bad in this game, it does deserve all the support it got from all those YouTubers (and their fans) years ago, I'm glad I was able to play this game, I will definitely try getting that blue bow on my steam profile page by "getting over it" 49 more times lol. Thanks Bennett Foddy for suck an amazing yet simple game.
Firstly, the game is NOT perfect. Most rage-based games are absolutely terrible, having no sense of balance nor direction. However, this game is by far one of if not the best rage game out there today. Yes, I may have gotten incredibly mad at some spots of the game. However, I never felt it was the game's fault. Bennett Foddy's narrative can get somewhat annoying telling you some common nonsense after losing a heap of progress. Once you start to reach the end, Foddy congratulates you for getting so far. But the highlight of the game is the ending, more so the feeling. It's a feeling I did not feel after beating previous rage games, and for those reasons this game gets a edge over others. If your a person with an incredibly short fuse, I would not recommend this game. But for the players looking for a challenge, I would strongly recommend this game.
it made me feel a new emotion im calling the only up and i broke down crying will kill myself soon
I have beaten this game over 150 times and i can beat it in under 3 minutes. This game is so addicting and the controls are so simple. I love this game
My Rating: 7~8/10
Only play it if you think you have DETERMINATION
(lol no one around me ever completed they all just gave up)
Good controls, amazingly fun after you get used to those controls and from then on its smooth sailing although often rage inducing
Why is this game so easy tho?? If you want to have better results get a huge mouse pad. and if you cant get a mouse pad, then fold up a soft shirt and use that as a pad. 8/10 fun and nostalgic.
the physics change constantly, sometimes i throw myself into the stratosphere by breathing on my mouse, sometimes i look like im trying to start a fire on my desk and i barely move. the hammer moves however the fuck it wants. its a poorly made game
When you I got over it once, the mountain called me back another 50 times and now i cant get over how good this game is, 10/10.
4.5 hours into my first run and only gotten 3/5 of the way up.
However in that time I've heard an abundance of ruminations on struggle, frustration, and futility delivered by the smooth tones of one Bennett Foddy.
10/10 would recommend for any semi-masochistic, brutally determined, mad lads.
This game gets frustrating, but then you find yourself fascinated at how fast you're able to pass sections that you spent hours on before. This game is an entire learning experience, almost puzzle like in how you need to determine the best course of action.
it is a hard game and will make you rage but the farther up you go the more hyped you become and its just a good game over all
Its painful, and TRUST ME, it takes a while, but in the end, your left with a sense of fufilment. Finality, its all nice in the end....or you feel like you got scammed. Don't take my word for it!
Great challenging game to test your patience! If you have an educated mind, it should take you 3-4 hours to beat.
Its a good game however it tells lies. The Voice told me every obsticle was real so i stopped on a tree and fell all the way to the beginning
A classic thriller, not to be enjoyed with friends. Do not play with friends only at your own risk.
There’s something uniquely captivating about Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy that keeps me coming back for more, no matter how frustrating it gets. I love the way the game challenges me not just physically with its precise controls but mentally, forcing me to face setbacks and learn from them. Every fall feels like a personal battle, but the thrill of progress—no matter how small—makes every climb feel meaningful. The minimalist design, combined with the soothing yet philosophical narration, creates an atmosphere that’s both punishing and oddly comforting. It’s not just a game; it’s a reflection of persistence and determination, and I love how it pushes me to my limits while teaching me patience and resilience.
A game for masochists, designed by a masochist.
It's really odd getting so high up and then falling all the way back down to the beginning to then just start laughing at how ridiculously difficult this game is lol
In all seriousness, if you can focus, this game can teach you real perseverance that can translate to your real life. As absurd as this game is, it has real value if you approach it correctly and don't start crying because the game doesn't make it easy on you.
Life is super hard, unfair, and doesn't give a fuck about you... It's refreshing to find a game that embraces difficulty and not giving a fuck about you while still somehow being totally fair.
I will get to the top one day... one day... sigh...
spent hours on that hell of a game. I’ve been screaming at the man in the cauldron for ages while the game kept mocking me for my loss of progress. Eventually, I beat it then again and again and again. It is one of my most relaxing games now. I play it when I’m bored or when I’m stressed. I have the whole thing memorized, and I don’t know what it will give me in life to know the full script of a game that is about a man in a pot... Overall, good game! 11/10 would recommend for others.
actually a really fun game, i know a lot of people dont like rage games but i think the movement in this game always makes sense, the game never really kills you in a stupid way, its just that the controls are hard to get used to. i lowkey want to start speedrunning this game
Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy
Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a true test of patience. You control a man trapped in a boiler and a character trying to climb to the top of a mountain with a hammer. It may seem simple at first, but the more you play, the more you realise that this game is actually a ‘zen experience’.
Gameplay
One tool: Hammer. One goal: Summit.
Physics-based mechanics are sometimes friend, sometimes foe.
If you fall, you're back to square one. All over again.
Pros:
✅ Simple but deep mechanics
✅ Bennett Foddy's calm but sarcastic narration
✅ Awakens a fighting spirit against adversity
Cons:
❌ It can be torture for those with a low patience threshold
Conclusion
Getting Over It isn't just a game, it's also a test. You may get frustrated, give up and even glare at your monitor. But the triumph you feel when you reach the top makes it all worth it.🪓🏔️
the whole reason the game is a rage game is cause of bad collisons and really hard control
i accidently left this game on the whole night.......I actually only have 1 hour of playtime
In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. It is the privilege of the gods to want nothing, and of godlike men to want little. I am a citizen of the world. Diogenes-
A great game; furthermore, it teaches you how life goes. (When you get high up you will always eventually fall down, or start from scratch)
"The genius of the hole: No matter how long you spend climbing out, you can still fall back down in an instant."
―Max Payne
I will echo countless others in saying: this is a really interesting game; it's unique in its design philosophy and its mechanics; i've come to enjoy playing it and trying for a new best time, and i think it really does have something to say about aDvErSiTy. but turn the narrator off in the settings. the game is greatly improved by his absence, not because of his sarcasm, but because of his sincerity.
its good game. get it. beat it. beat it once more. beat it as many times as you can in 2 weeks and cry when you arent a speed runner yet (like me)
The amount of frustration and anger this game gives you is incredible. But it makes the felling of learning how to and overcoming an obstacle euphoric. The voiceover and music is beautiful. Truly a perfect game.
This game is an argument that games in its essence is pure SKILL, in other games you can grind exp gold whatever, the challenges in those kinds of game are fake, at least partially, without growing as a person, you can just repeat the same action and still win, enjoy the fruits of your "labor".
At first honestly I thought I would never beat this game, I beat it after a few months of forgetting about it, in those months I have learn things like drawing, drifting in games, calisthenics, programming, and this game feels no different than learning those skills, getting the reward feels amazing sure but so is the journey that I equally appreciate.
From hopelessly rage quit to now speedrunning for sub 5, this game is worth it, the journey and the end.
"An orange is a sweet juicy fruit, locked inside a bitter peel.
That’s not how I feel about a challenge, I only want the bitterness. It’s coffee, it’s grapefruit, it’s licorice."
