Back in the day, when this game was released, it became an indie darling. Everyone lauded its creepy atmosphere and laconic monochrome visual style. Today, while still beautiful, Limbo doesn't hold up as well. After the first quarter, the atmosphere takes the back seat to the endless crate moving puzzles. Limbo came out before it became normal for games to tell a story or create an atmosphere without presenting some kind of obstacles, even if rudimentary, for the sake of having a gameplay, but it became an important step towards the advent of less gamey and more artsy games.
game is 2-3 Hours long, great puzzle/platformer short but sweet. 7.5/10 RECOMMEND BUYING INSIDE/LIMBO BUNDLE ON SALE FOR $2
Beautiful game and very good puzzles
Good one, unique and fun logic but I like inside more, plus this is a bit short.
Limbo is one of those games that sticks with you long after you finish it. The eerie black-and-white world, the unsettling sound design, and the clever physics-based puzzles make for an unforgettable experience. With no dialogue, the game lets you piece together its mystery on your own, which only adds to the tension. It’s simple, haunting, and absolutely worth playing.
Simple yet very creative and engaging puzzle solving game!
For a black and white side scroller this is Horror done so well. The puzzles and enemies are so fun and creepy. If you have played INSIDE and feel like there's no reason to go back to something earlier, you should absolutely give this a try. LIMBO has its own unique voice.
Comes with built in color blind mode.
Limbo’s eerie black-and-white art style and haunting atmosphere make it unforgettable. The smooth controls and clever puzzles keep you hooked, and the emotional weight of the journey sticks with you. Beating the game feels great—but those hardcore achievements (No Point in Dying, DING!) will really test your patience. If you love atmospheric puzzle-platformers, this one’s a must-play!
LIMBO - has already become a real legend in the gaming industr and canon in the genre of platformers with an oppressive atmosphere.
I can't call LIMBO a horror game, despite the fact that I am really EASILY FRIGHTENED and can get ass stroke from any booger that suddenly appears on the screen.
A simple and understandable plot, a beautiful graphic style, good musical accompaniment - it is really pleasant to play it and NOT SCARY at all.
Therefore, you can calmly go through it several times without fear of losing the last drops of sanity.
Achievements are obtained without difficulty.
The only one that caused difficulty - There is no point in death - because there are really a lot of places in the game where you can suddenly die, and you need to be really careful.
To get it, I had to play the game for a couple of extra hours, but the story itself goes through pretty quickly.
9/10
Limbo is a game that draws you into a shadowy, monochromatic world teeming with mystery and danger. The gameplay strikes a perfect balance between engaging puzzles and smooth platforming. It's dark, it's creepy, and it's oddly addictive.
How can something so monotonous, lack luster, dialogue or monologue void art piece be so gripping that it sucks you in and makes sure you encompass the meaning of circle of life to its core? I do not know. But what I do know for sure is that the simple story telling, the orgasmic audio, the simplicity of the gameplay, the complexity of the puzzles in progression, the variety encoded within this small package makes this game so special. The gameplay time is about an hour or a bit more per run if you know what you are doing, but will definitely take you a lot more if you are doing a first blind playthrough, which I recommend you do. The thing with this game is that all the puzzles have one and only solution to progress your run, severely limiting creative freedom to make your own viable solution. This serves as both strong and weak points of the game. Nonetheless I highly recommend this short & beautiful game.
A haunting, minimalist puzzle-platformer with stunning visuals and eerie atmosphere. A must-play!
⭐ 9/10
What is your criteria for calling a game a masterpiece?
Amazing graphics?
Great gameplay?
Deep and philosophical story?
Limbo is a video game masterpiece at its simplest.
You won't hear a single line of dialogue in this game, but you will be immersed in the game's environment and atmosphere in a way that is unbelievable even to yourself.
Highly recommended.
Trust me, this game will change your perception of a masterpiece.
After getting all the achievements, this is my review.
Limbo is a platformer puzzle game with a special charm in the unique artstyle. None of puzzles are so hard that you would be stuck for more than 10 minutes, although it can get pretty difficult in the final stages. Overall, this game is a must buy for me, but I would recommend to wait for it to go on discount, as the main story only takes around 5 hours. However, if your looking for the extra challenge, this game does offer that. You start by collecting 10 secret eggs around the levels, each with their own achievement. Once you collect the eggs and beat the game once, you can do a bonus levels unavailable to you before that is very difficult. Finally, the last achievement of the game requires you to beat the game in one sitting with less than 6 deaths. Keep in mind the 2% completion rate, this is difficult. Overall, this game is great for both the casual and competitive player and is a must by in my opinion.
Great game, simple but fun puzzles. The story is not really told to you but you are able to understand it, 10 potatoes/ 10 potatoes, would recommend.
Love this game, i remember watching youtubers play this game in 2015 and its great to play it by myself. 10/10
Good game but not of my type.
No Spoilers - It is a hard to recommend game. Unless you are nostalgic for this game, it might be a masterpiece for you . However , new players might find it a hard hook , like me . As the gameplay is mostly platform puzzles , it can get boring at times . Story is pretty mysterious , the story is all based on theories which is not much explained in game and is mostly made up by fandom.
If you are into platform puzzles , linear gameplay and non verbal story this game can be for you.
Great game and story, for the price on discount totally worth it
i love the creepy atmosphere even tho the game isn't that fancy and go with that simple BnW. Very epic and you guys should play this game

Limbo is a dark, puzzle game in a dystopian world. You play as a small child navigating eerie environments filled with deadly traps.
Pros
✅ Clever Puzzles
✅ Cute Yet Creepy
✅ Dystopian Vibes
✅ Runs well on Deck
Cons
❌ Frequent Deaths – Not for those who don’t like seeing a child get dismembered
❌ No Background Music – Can feel boring when you're stuck
❌ Black & White Art Style – Sometimes hard to see details
Final Verdict
Creepy, clever, and fun, but expect to die—a lot. If you like games that challenge you with clever mechanics and a haunting world, Limbo is definitely worth a try!
This game is awesome - I love the art style, the game play is simple yet very challenging. I can't recommend this game enough.
Phenomenal game!! 10/10. So immersive and atmospheric. The puzzles are really clever and a ton of fun. I had to stop a few times to just appreciate certain levels and the thought that went into the puzzle and the story. I found the difficulty level perfect. Didn't get stumped until the later chapters so it's neat it got progressively more difficult. Fun game to take screenshots of too. I had a great time with the hidden achievements.
Make sure that when you get to the LAST level, you're running the game with fullscreen mode and not windowed mode otherwise it will freeze. (go into the game files and open the file "settings" in notepad and make "windowedmode = false," like it defaults to. All the other levels are fine to play on windowed mode. Just not the last scene of the final chapter.
This is a short and fun platform game that moves seamlessly through a haunting and eerie ambient environment. The minimal sounds and lighting, use of shadows, and curious landscape are great design choices. Expect to use multiple senses and thoughtful timing to move through the puzzles. There's no given story line, which adds to the mysterious feel of the game. One play through is enough and worth the few hours of play.
I felt compelled to check out LIMBO after being enamored with COCOON - and I’m so happy to finally understand why it’s earned its status as the godfather of modern puzzle platformers. So good!
Awesome game <3
It is reeeeally worth do the hidden part, achievement called Ding!
The only drawback is that I find the 100% TOO HARD just because one achievement, dont die more than 5 times :S
Amazing! Whether you get it on discount or at full price, it's worth it.
Will definitely give it another play through in the future.
It's an old but gold game that's worth a shot.
Mechanically simple and easy to pick up. The puzzles are straightforward and feels rewarding.
For a 100% completion, I even discovered a section I never knew existed before; and I'm personally a big fan. Basically throwing everything you've learned throughout the game and putting it in one continuous challenge. It's hard but fair.
There is 1 achievement that's absolutely tedious though, it took me 3 hours... in one sitting.
很好的解密游戏但是好难啊,玩的时候感觉智商被碾压了。听说inside简单点还是玩inside去了。有缘回来打通关
The monotone art style and sound design are some of the game's best things. Though short, I liked the game. It helped that I played it in the dark, really helps with the mood.
7/10
A game with simple concept and simple controls, yet the puzzles are fun to solve. Can be finished within 1 seating.
Besides a couple of levels where the solution is more obscure than I'd like, this is a decent 2D puzzle game. The secret level/path is especially creative. The controls leave some things to be desired however. Unlike other people, I can't really say the game's atmosphere resonated with me.
I played this game because I enjoyed INSIDE so much. LIMBO was interesting but it was also dark, creepy, and mysterious. I do think INSIDE was certainly a huge upgrade from this game, but it was still enjoyable. The puzzles at times were a bit hard to do though, as there were two or three puzzles in total that I had to lookup after a lot of thinking. My favorite moment of the game was definitely when the girl was there at first in one of the final chapters, but then you have to walk away and when you come back its an entirely different setting.
Short and nice game. I recommend to play this game alone on the night of Halloween with headphones and lights off to get fully immersed.
Great game with great design. If you like puzzles, you will enjoy Limbo
an amazing game with great puzzles, i remember playing this game when i was little and im so glad i found it again. absolutely love this game
Limbo is a great game that challenges players with clever, physics-based puzzles. However, what truly sets it apart is its haunting atmosphere. The eerie visuals, combined with a minimal yet powerful soundtrack, create a deeply immersive experience that pulls you into its dark, mysterious world.
Not sure what I can say about this, just a very engaging platforming game that gives you very little information on what's going or the lore. Lots of fun getting through this!
This was a humbling experiencee... I enjoyed it, all I'll say is lot of the time the solution to puzzles were VERY unclear, I found the same problem with INSIDE too (although probably just a skill issue in my case). Overall it was fun, albeit very frustrating at times, but it's SO well made! Time to try and get all the achievements now :,)
It's simple and simply great. 2D Platformer that is not really hard, but has a really dark atmosphere and even some kind of world building. Loved every minute of it.
I can honestly say I'm disappointed in myself for not finishing this sooner.
-2012, I finished building my first gaming pc and launched Steam. Found Limbo and played it.
Found plenty of other games and lost interest in Limbo.
-2013, picked it back up and got through about 8 chapters, set it down and left it alone.
-2025, decided to play it on my Steam Deck and polish it off.
Frankly, very impressed. Ambiance is terrific, the spider is horrible, wish it was longer. Thank you.
I would strongly recommend thise game. It's not what I expected and in a very good way. The puzzles get more and more complex as you progress throught the chapters, you really have to think outside of the box sometimes.
It's a simple game yet very effective at what it does.
Limbo is a timeless indie masterpiece that redefined the puzzle-platformer genre with its minimalist yet deeply atmospheric approach. Developed by Playdead, the game immerses players in a haunting monochromatic world filled with mystery and danger.
The striking black-and-white visuals, combined with a chillingly minimalist sound design, create an eerie and unsettling atmosphere that grips you from start to finish. The puzzles are clever, intuitive, and seamlessly tied to the environment, offering just the right balance of challenge and satisfaction.
What makes Limbo stand out is its ability to tell a profound, thought-provoking story without a single word of dialogue. Its themes of survival, loss, and exploration resonate deeply, making it more than just a game, it's an experience.
For fans of atmospheric and emotionally driven games, Limbo is an absolute must-play. Its influence on the indie game scene is undeniable, and its haunting world will stay with you long after you’ve reached the end.
How good can a simple black & white game be anyway? I asked myself that question before starting but wow, this one grabs you in and doesn't let go, with physical/mechanical based puzzles that grow increasingly complex. This one and its sister game, "Inside" remain two of my top 10 favorites.
This game has no settings related to graphics, and I'm unable to move the game to a different monitor - my primary monitor is not the monitor I game on. I cannot use win+shift+arrow keys to move it (it moves a black screen but not the game), I cannot move it with win+tab.
I don't want to change my primary monitor just for a game. At least give me a setting to make the game into a window and let me drag it and make it full screen.
The game developers have ignored the basics, ignoring that gamers may not have the exact same setup as them. Just let me move the game to a different monitor, don't expect players to change their primary monitor just for your game.
Was this a fun game? Sure. I enjoyed the puzzles. Will I play it again? No. I do recommend to play it once but otherwise I won't be picking this up anytime soon. This is a good game to keep someone busy while you run errands or killing time.
I dont understand why so many people praise this game and elevate it to the rank of a masterpiece. The excitement probably appeared after the release of INSIDE. And it feels like a trial vision for a future projects(like INSIDE). The game is not bad, it will do for 1-2 evenings.
Despite not enjoying it as much as Inside, Limbo was great. Some really good game design and a fantastic ending. Definitely recommended.
I like this game I like how simple and short it is but hard at the same time
