Limbo is a timeless indie masterpiece that redefined the puzzle-platformer genre with its minimalist yet deeply atmospheric approach. Developed by Playdead, the game immerses players in a haunting monochromatic world filled with mystery and danger.
The striking black-and-white visuals, combined with a chillingly minimalist sound design, create an eerie and unsettling atmosphere that grips you from start to finish. The puzzles are clever, intuitive, and seamlessly tied to the environment, offering just the right balance of challenge and satisfaction.
What makes Limbo stand out is its ability to tell a profound, thought-provoking story without a single word of dialogue. Its themes of survival, loss, and exploration resonate deeply, making it more than just a game, it's an experience.
For fans of atmospheric and emotionally driven games, Limbo is an absolute must-play. Its influence on the indie game scene is undeniable, and its haunting world will stay with you long after you’ve reached the end.
How good can a simple black & white game be anyway? I asked myself that question before starting but wow, this one grabs you in and doesn't let go, with physical/mechanical based puzzles that grow increasingly complex. This one and its sister game, "Inside" remain two of my top 10 favorites.
This game has no settings related to graphics, and I'm unable to move the game to a different monitor - my primary monitor is not the monitor I game on. I cannot use win+shift+arrow keys to move it (it moves a black screen but not the game), I cannot move it with win+tab.
I don't want to change my primary monitor just for a game. At least give me a setting to make the game into a window and let me drag it and make it full screen.
The game developers have ignored the basics, ignoring that gamers may not have the exact same setup as them. Just let me move the game to a different monitor, don't expect players to change their primary monitor just for your game.
Was this a fun game? Sure. I enjoyed the puzzles. Will I play it again? No. I do recommend to play it once but otherwise I won't be picking this up anytime soon. This is a good game to keep someone busy while you run errands or killing time.
I dont understand why so many people praise this game and elevate it to the rank of a masterpiece. The excitement probably appeared after the release of INSIDE. And it feels like a trial vision for a future projects(like INSIDE). The game is not bad, it will do for 1-2 evenings.
Despite not enjoying it as much as Inside, Limbo was great. Some really good game design and a fantastic ending. Definitely recommended.
I like this game I like how simple and short it is but hard at the same time
Nice problem solving game, I like the simple design since objects can appear ambiguous adding to the problem solving aspect.
Every time you make a mistake a child dies in a gruesome way.
Truly an artwork
This is a great and clever game! Sometimes very frustrating puzzles but they are far from impossible, just take some time and you figure it out. Great atmosphere and graphics! 9/10 (since the next game from the same developer (Playdead) called Inside is a 10/10 in my book, don´t miss it!!).
You will definitely find a difficult puzzle there. it was very amusing and requires decent problem solving. its also amazing how many ways the kid can die in this game.
Thoroughly enjoyed this platform adventure. The first playthrough is a lot of learning, but it goes way faster the subsequent plays. Still working on my final achievement, but the game is still challenging and fun even knowing what obstacles are coming up!
Limbo Review
A game with an original visual style, an immersive atmosphere, excellent level design—some of which are truly challenging—and a deep story that invites interpretation.
A piece of art. But some puzzles in the end are unintuitive.
✔️ You die a lot, and this requires focus and patience, not skill. If you don’t like trying repeatedly, this game may not be for you.
✔️ About the hardest achievement, "No Point in Dying", you can only attempt it after finishing the game. The achievement only appears at the very end.
✔️ Sound is also important. Some achievements rely on sensitive hearing, but in certain parts, the noise is so loud that playing without sound might be better.
✔️ It’s a game for those who don’t mind dying. The character is very fragile (he can’t swim, dies from falls, spikes, and more).
✔️ I completed all achievements in Limbo, but it takes patience and perseverance to do so. If that’s not a problem for you, you’ll likely find it as brilliant as the other Playdead games.
Relatively simple puzzle game until the last 3 chapters.
Then it became annoying.
A really excellent game. I picked this one up to play on the Steamdeck and I'm super happy with how it performs, it runs at a locked 90FPS without any audio, video or control issues, you boot it up and it works flawlessly.
The game itself is about 45m long from start to finish, so about 60-90m if you're playing for the first time (expect lots of deaths while you learn the puzzles)
There's two really brutal achievements here, I thought I'd outline them here in case anyone else wants to achievement hunt.
1) Completing the hidden level, which you can only get by collecting all of the secret eggs in the game. This level is incredibly difficult, with most of the level being in pitch black, so you need to listen to audio cues for when you need to jump and run. You'll need a guide for this one because it's brutal. The only saving grace is when you die you don't start the level over again, you respawn close to where you died.
2) Beating the game with a maximum of 5 deaths. This one was hands down one of the hardest achievements I've completed, even though the game is only 40m long you can die on dozens on traps, costing you a life.
There's about 6 really difficult sections in the game where you need to play perfectly, with the end final jump being arguably the most difficult to master (and where I lost multiple runs )
Even though you can use the chapter select to play the difficult sections and practice, it's doing the run from start to finish thats a killer. It took about 8 hours for me to get this one but I'm super happy I stuck it out because it really tests your mastery of the game.
There's a few full playthroughs and even a few deathless runs but you'll only get this one if you keep playing and master each of the tricky puzzles.
100% recommend this game, it's an absolute gem
Atmosphere and aesthetic is amazing and the puzzles are challenging but not too difficult. Great game that started and finished in a weekend.

Game is set in a very dark world. B/W but the setting is nice and appealing . Sound is also awesome and used as cues at many places. The Sound And Visual animation of death literally feels very strong(by traps traps and spiders) . By trial and error you keep going forward and solving puzzles . The levels are amazing and even very scary at times (People be literally firing machines guns at my boy). Definitely you feel the journey and you really feel relieved at the end. Pick this on sale its worth the experience. Something nice, small and intuitive after overwhelming AAAs .
W horror game with good mechanics and amazing gameplay
An incredibly simple but atmospheric game that has thoroughly screwed with my brain. The game is really great, I played it with a controller.
Cool horror game with a unique art style and very fun to play.
Limbo is a fun to play puzzle solving game I had played and completed it for more than 7 times. It got nice minimalist theme with hauntingly beautiful visuals and sound. Though some puzzles may seems to be tricky but Its a well-balanced game. Will definitely recommend to play.
I liked the fact that the difficult bits give you clues as to what to do. The save mechanism is brilliant because you only end up having to re run the last 1 min of gameplay if you die on a tricky bit.
I collected all the achievements except one which was very difficult which is not dying in the entire game and this is really hard. 🤯
It's a neat experience, but not there's not much for replay value.I don't feel like it's worth being completionist due to the frustration of it.

Whoever gives this game a bad review has a horrible taste in games. If it's because of glitches, I'm okay with it. But if it's because you just don't like the game... tsk tsk tsk. This game is a GAME CHANGER. 2010 was one of the Golden Years for the game industry. Red Dead Redemption, Metro: Last Light, and LIMBO, to name a few. Playing these games in 2025 is still wonderful in almost, if not every way.
2005, 2010, 2016. Those are some of the best game years.
Warm regards to Playdead. This game is awesome. In my opinion, it's as good as INSIDE. Please support this game in every way you can.
If you want a platformer based mostly on timing and reaction, this is a game for you. If you want a puzzle game based on pattern recognition, logical thinking where every death is a product of your own bad decisions, this is not a game for you. I prefer the latter.
Bought the game ages ago because of I heard good things of INSIDE and was in the mood to do achievement hunting so what better than a narrative game with like 5 buttons total?
So yeah I was not prepared for physics puzzles. LIMBO is a very interesting game that does a lot with its engine and throws a lot of different things to keep the experience fresh thorough the whole game. That said I don't really care for it I generally don't bother with puzzle games and the fact that a sizable amount of the puzzles have timing components was really frustrating, not to speak of the puzzles that required platforming, particularly the minecart, hotel and the last jump hate those.
So if you like puzzles and don't mind having like 5 seconds to do a thing before you die (or worse, having to sit for a few seconds just to die and do it again yay) go for it, most of the puzzles are quite fair and sensible (if ya ain't looking for the eggs) altho I did have to check a few times a video because how the heck was I supposed to know the engine worked like that!
Also the dark level is just plain bs. Absurd.
A fun stylish puzzle game. no dialogue so it was fun finding music to throw on behind it (Shlohmo, Grouper, TWDY). decently hard but nothing rage worthy. stumped me a few times and i had to come back after thinking about it good for 4ish hours! grab on sale
Just perfect! Perfect atmosphere. Perfect sound design. Perfect gameplay.
Highly recommended. It's a piece of art...
Limbo is a mesmerizing masterpiece that proves how powerful simplicity can be. The world is dark, mysterious, and filled with danger, and yet it's beautifully crafted in its minimalist approach. Limbo is one of those rare gems that lingers long after the screen goes black. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable journey. At the price of $1 its a must buy for everyone!!!
Good game, the visuals are nice, the ambient and feeling you get from this game is dark though that's how its suppose to be so that is nailed correctly. Some of the puzzles are fairly difficult but manageable. There's only about 1, maybe 2 soft lock puzzles I can think of but besides that they aren't unfair. Generally a good puzzle plat-former with horror and whatever else mixed in.
The game is minimalist riddled & I felt it the curiosity over the gameplay & atmosphere. I think this game suitable for me for side indie game to relieve stress for a moment or sometimes feel frustrated after other things. But mostly when solving obstacles with puzzles & problem solving skills that can stimulate the brain, instead it's frustrating. However that's how I feel and why that's what makes me like it. ;)
playdead somehow makes me feel so smart and so dumb with their puzzle platformers. this one is no exception! what i love most about playdead's storytelling, though, is its abstraction, which encourages the player to impose upon the game their own analyses. i think the obvious part is that this is a story about children who died in a car accident, but why they are in a purgatorial "limbo" and reliving traumatic memories is up to you. no, this one is not as good as inside (2016), but still very much worth your time and purchase.
Great game, especially for 1 euro/dollar when on sale. The achievement for beating the game in 5 deaths or less is also more fair than the no death runs in VVVVVV or Super Meat Boy.
Played this gem when I was around 10. I can not explain the happiness I felt when I was reminded of it while randomly scrolling through discounted games. 10/10
Extremely dated puzzle design that prioritizes skill and timing over problem solving. Extremely frustrating when you know what you have to do but then get stuck for 15 minutes because you need to get the timing nearly perfect.
Just a short puzzle game, nothing more to it. I remember there being a huge hype over it when it first came out, probably due to all the big youtubers playing it. It's unfortunately nothing special. Get it on a sale. The majority of the puzzles are easy, there are only around 3 that are a bit harder.
This game is a masterpiece, immerses you in a dark, disturbing, yet incredibly beautiful world.
I found it tedious with the constant puzzles that gradually became too difficult to be fun; I would've like more storytelling to break up the puzzles and give more depth to the game........ just not my cup of tea
Limo is a great game! The visuals are stunning, the puzzles are clever, and the gameplay is super smooth. I had a blast playing it. Highly recommend checking it out!
I highly recommend this game to everyone who wants a short but immersive experience with a little bit of puzzle. The atmosphere in this game is perfect and sets the tone for the game so well. Some of the puzzle in the game, especially in the latter chapters are pretty much frustrating but when you found out the answer in any ways, whether you do it yourself or doing a research on the internet, you will find the brilliance inside the settings and puzzle.
A really good platformer that can entertain you for a few hours. There were some puzzles that felt tricky but none of the solutions felt ridiculous or unfair. It's an immersive game that i recommend playing as the sound design and simple visuals can pull you into the world of Limbo. It's short game that leaves you wanting more.
Limbo Review After 100% Achievements on Steam ⚫✨
Completing Limbo at 100% feels like walking through a world shrouded in shadows—a quiet, unsettling journey that challenges both your mind and your senses. It’s not just a puzzle platformer; it’s an artistic experience that speaks volumes through its silence and ambiguity.
Every achievement earned felt like a step further into the unknown, where the dark atmosphere and clever puzzles combined to create something hauntingly memorable. However, not everything in Limbo shines through its darkness.
Visual Style: Stunning black-and-white visuals that transform simplicity into a gripping, immersive atmosphere.
Sound Design: Subtle and effective, with every sound and silence amplifying the tension.
Puzzles: Clever and engaging, offering a solid mix of challenge and variety.
Negatives:
Short Playtime: Even at 100%, the experience feels too brief, leaving you wanting more.
Trial-and-Error Mechanics: Some traps rely heavily on trial and error rather than logic, which can lead to moments of frustration.
Conclusion:
Limbo is a unique and beautiful experience, offering a quiet exploration of fear, loneliness, and survival. Yet, its short length and reliance on repetitive trial-and-error mechanics hold it back from perfection. Still, it stands as a reminder that “sometimes, silence and shadows tell the most powerful stories.”
Final Rating: 80/100 ⚫🌑
Limbo is a fantastic puzzle-platformer with a dark, eerie atmosphere that pulls you in right from the start. The puzzles are well-designed, challenging, and satisfying to solve. The minimalist graphics and haunting sound design perfectly complement the game’s tone, making it a unique and immersive experience. A must-play for fans of the genre. 9/10.
Limbo is a dark, atmospheric puzzle game that’s as mysterious as it is fun. The minimalist art and creepy sound design set the perfect mood, keeping you hooked from start to finish. The puzzles are smart and satisfying – not too hard, but rewarding when you crack them. It’s short, but every moment is worth it. If you love a good challenge and an unforgettable atmosphere, definitely give this one a try!
in the last action in the game there is a huge bug when sucseed the last jump in to the final window - it stuck
the game just glitch (I saw the final from you tube) in my case the game just not contineo to final cinematic (the water and the slow motion stuff)
This is a very atmospheric puzzle platformer. The platforming is moderately challenging, meaning I could usually do it after a couple of attempts at most. The action is kind of slow, so you don't need frame-perfect reaction. My first playthrough was ~8 hours.
A short nice game, with some cool puzzles to solve.
The monochromatic visuals become eyegasm at some point :D
Also ffs, now I am supposed to do the last achievement, by completing the game with less than 6 deaths :sob:
