This is a very atmospheric puzzle platformer. The platforming is moderately challenging, meaning I could usually do it after a couple of attempts at most. The action is kind of slow, so you don't need frame-perfect reaction. My first playthrough was ~8 hours.
A short nice game, with some cool puzzles to solve.
The monochromatic visuals become eyegasm at some point :D
Also ffs, now I am supposed to do the last achievement, by completing the game with less than 6 deaths :sob:
Great puzzles, great aesthetics, little disappointed at the ending though.
Gets very challenging at the end, but never impossible. Completing with fewer than 5 deaths is very attainable. The secret level is VERY challenging. If you like to get immersed in a very moody experience (Inside, obviously, or Shadow of the Colossus), this is a good one. Just enough of a story, well-designed hidden eggs for a secret level. Very well executed!
Too frustrating for me. Split-second timing required. Have to replay same sections over and over. No thanks.

An excellent game, beautifully and tastefully rendered - the indie game all other indie games can only aspire to be like. I actually play this with my young children, letting them do the running inbetween traps and puzzles, although after a certain age it gets too scary for them.
Piece of art. 10/10 recommend. It's successor, INSIDE, is even better. These guys know how to make a puzzle game. No dialog, but such a strong story. I don't know how they did it, but it hits deep.

After being confused at the start by all the puzzles and what was going on, then, realizing it all in the end, I noticed that I had entered the state of Limbo.

This game is unlike any other I've played before. The game being in black and white really adds another layer of fear and suspense. The puzzles are hard and complex but once you complete them you get a feeling of euphoria and urge to continue playing. Overall 100/10 game, I would definitely recommend this for someone who likes puzzles and horror.
The puzzles aren't too difficult, but they do make you think which is good. Not quite sure what the story is but is very interesting to see the character progress through the game. Its a very cute somber game, and its short and sweet. I strongly recommend trying it out :)
Limbo is a fantastic game that skillfully combines dark themes with mystery to create an intriguing experience. Due to its simplicity and use of basic controls, the gameplay is both accessible and captivating. Its atmosphere is what really makes it unique; the creepy images and engrossing emotions give you the impression that you are a part of its unsettling world. Despite the little amount of time I spent playing on Steam, I intend to keep exploring its enigmatic world on my smartphone so I may go even farther into its enticing experience.
Get impaled, crushed, drowned and much more. Be aware of your surrounding😉😉.

Played the game a few years ago and finally decided to come back and get the last achievement recently. The first run may take a few hours and experienced players can finish within a hour. Overall a good indie and recommended to play.
To complete the game in one sitting with no more than 5 deaths is not easy but very doable after some practice. It’s essential to know how to solve each puzzle quickly and save death counts for those areas require accurate timings. Using chapter select to practise difficult areas can be very helpful.

This games astetic carries it lot obviously, but in my opinion that does not diminish the game at all. Even with that though there are a bunch of interesting gameplay moments and mechanics throughout and the short runtime really puts it all together. You can tell that the developers had an idea and worked to do that one idea and nothing overboard, and it really helps the game feel like a whole package even with it's short runtime. (Also makes it easier to do a Limbo to Inside gameplay session in one day, which is what I did) But anyways this games combination of dark and gloomy astetic and interesting visual world building around it make it a marvel to look at even with it's simplicity in style. You truly feel you are stuck in limbo. (9/10)
Very cheap and interesting platform game with engaging puzzles.
Not too hard, and going after the achievements is fun.
Can be completed in one sitting.
The idea of the game is fun, but the difficulty spikes at the end. I would not recommend it until this issue is fixed. For example, at the end of level 30, the cart moves much faster on the Steam Deck compared to the PC, making the level completely impossible to complete. Additionally, even on the PC, after the last update in 2023, the cart’s speed increased while the run speed significantly decreased. I compared this with the version prior to the 2023 update, where the run and cart speeds were proportionately balanced, making it challenging yet possible to complete the levels.
Another issue is some achievements are not unlocked despite the fact that you complete it.
After almost 4 hours I decided to quit the game and won't invest any more time in it. Before that, I played Inside, which comes bundled with Limbo. In a direct comparison, I find Limbo to be the weaker of the two. While it offers a dark atmosphere that's well supported by the environment and enemies, the gameplay increasingly turns into a trial-and-error experience. Numerous repeated deaths are necessary to learn timings, figure out sequences, or discover the right path. For me, this became quite frustrating over time. It feels like the length of the game is artificially stretched by these constant repetitions. In contrast, I enjoyed Inside much more and would recommend that game instead.
No HUD, no hints. A simple and direct game. The black-and-white aesthetic fits it perfectly, and the puzzles are great. Getting 100% is a bit tricky, but not impossible. Enjoy it!
Beside maybe simple and low graphic of the game, it was really one of the best games I have done. With different challenges you face during each level of the game, you will be more excited in each step with a beautiful ending... in my opinion, after this game, it is necessary to play "Inside" game which is another product of this company. But remember the tiny shiny worms in this game, they will say hi to you in "Inside" :)
Nice little platformer with puzzle elements and a beautiful dark aesthetic.
The most beautiful and creative platform game that mixes story and suspense with horror and survival. It shows the darkness and destruction of the world in a winding path with a few glimmers of light and hope. It was unrivaled and innovative in its kind and time. Highly recommended to any gamer or even any person who is a little tired.
The margin of error on the puzzles is too small for me to recommend limbo. you will have the egzackt plan to complete the puzzle and not be able to do it. hell sometimes i got so confused on why the simple solution wasn't working (it was just hard to execute) that id start trying other things wasting time and losing interest.
Amazing game, great music, beautiful artstyle, engaging and very challenging gameplay. Its very short but its worth every single penny and its super fun to play, there's a special secret room that unlocks after finishing the game, extremely difficult yet really fun and ofcourse the last achievement to finish the game in one sitting under 1 hour and with less then 5 deaths was hard to get but BOY it was so much fun xD 10/10

I was never good in physics and this game proved to me I am still not, but it's fun.
Very fun short puzzle game that builds an immersive world which invokes both fear and curiosity. The sound design is amazing and the gameplay encourages out side the box thinking. This game is a must play!
Limbo is a well-made game, and the puzzles offer just the right amount of challenge. The story isn’t very clear, and by the end, you’re left wondering what it all even means. The bug at the end where the game freezes is also unfortunate. In summary, the game is well-crafted, and it doesn't take too long to complete

I suggest to play "Inside" that has the same gameplay, but is much more fun.
Te graphics are so nice. The game is great as you need to strategise to be able to find the ways to advance. I enjoyed it very much.
A game that tests your intelligence, reflexes and theory crafting. A symbolic and mysterious story. Great game!

beautifully serene game. It tries your patience but also rewards your diligence. This is a must play for another solo gamer.
Its not a long game but it has interesting puzzles and a nice art style.
I love horror.
I love platformers.
and I love puzzle games.
Limbo is all three. So by all logic I should like it. But I do not.
It is by no means a bad game. It's objectively a very good one. And for that I do recommend it.
The puzzles are smart and I appreciate the thought and level design put into them. But because the controls are so second-to-second and unforgiving, even as a seasoned player of platformers, I'm left second guessing whether or not I actually got the solution right. And in most cases, I did. But the game punishes me still for simply not executing it down to a microsecond.
I get this brutal punishment system is in line with the theme of the game - Limbo. Purgatory. Literal hell. Fortunately, I'm not Catholic so miss me with that shi-
This was one of the first games I ever bought on steam, and it took me nearly a decade to pick it up again to finish it. I didn't like it then. And I don't like it now. But maybe you will.
That said, will I be trying for that last achievement I'm missing? You bet I will. Cause mama didn't raise no quitter.
What an incredible game. I'm upset it took me this long to play it after owning it for so long.
Here's some backstory: I bought this in 2013, played 40 minutes, and decided to delete it off of my account. I rediscovered it from a friend and got it back on my account through support. I was 16 in 2013, and I have no idea what made me put it down.
However now, I feel like a kid again, discovering a new and interesting game that keeps me playing (as short as it is) through the entire thing in almost 1 session.
Perfect combination of dark atmosphere and puzzle game. And also works on Mac with new M processor.

Every obstacle and trap seems deliberately placed to teach the player through trial and error. This contributes to the game’s dark tone, as the boy faces gruesome deaths if the player fails to solve the puzzles correctly. Death is a core part of LIMBO’s experience. The game relies on a “trial-and-death” approach where players often need to fail to learn how to progress. These moments are designed to shock, adding to the game’s horror-like experience. For instance, the encounter with a giant spider is one of the most memorable scenes. The spider stalks the boy and forces players to think creatively to escape. LIMBO is celebrated for its unique style and mature approach to storytelling through gameplay.

i personally liked it,the atmosphere and the puzzles, the whole thing. although all that hype faded away when i started going for the trophy "no point in dying". Out of the 12 hours i put on this game, the 9 of those are for that specific trophy. i hope nobody will experience something like this ever again, it was horrible.
Overall A very good game. definitely worth it to play, but if you want to perfect the game the last achievement is literally very very hard like this one achievement took like 15+ hours to do, i would get zero deaths until the very end and at the last part i die 6 times and have to restart the whole game and also you have to do it in a single sitting , either way the game was fun to play definitely recommend to try.
I see why limbo's reviews are going down and why 2011 gameplay didn't age so well...
I came from inside, since i bought the bundle that had both games, and i can say, the 1 hour gameplay this game has is turned into a 4 hour "die to find out", it's like i am playing geometry dash memory levels, every positive aspect that limbo has, is already presented in inside, i am writing this to save you the 4+ hours that you would have spent otherwise playing limbo, and go play inside instead.
Was an okay game, some puzzles were obvious and others were tricks, and then some were less obvious, I honestly started to doubt what the puzzle even was. Nor am I sure what the purpose is, although playdead tends to make games without explaining or answering so that's normal. I just personally did not find it enjoyable.
Apparently I got this far the last time I played it (probably closer to 2011, when it released), but I never finished the game. It is such a well made game, in terms of puzzle design, animation and world building. I played through their other game INSIDE a few years ago, and really enjoyed it for the same reason, so I decided to give this gem another try, and it is so well done. Great job Playdead! I'm about 75% into the game (again). Can easily be played within a 4 hour sitting I'd say. I did have to get help on two puzzles (one of which I was doing right, just not timing it right), but YouTube is great for that. And you can know which chapter you are on by looking at the Chapter Select within the start menu. At the moment the game is going for $0.99 on steam, for that price, it is a no-brainer.
