I liked the dark and unsettling atmosphere in the game, I think I prefer it a bit more than Inside.

Limbo is a pretty short 2D puzzle game with vague horror elements. It looks minimalistic but has dark imagery. One can only run, jump and grab stuff, but that's sufficient to solve the organic puzzles that feel like they're part of the environment that we find.
Limbo is quiet, lonely and tense at times. There's no music whatsoever: only faint white noise, or background droning sounds, only interrupted by machinery or other dangers, along with your footsteps. Even though there's no story directly told, Limbo says a lot without any words, implying we're simply lost in an alternate universe with hostile denizens, and our only objective is to keep going right.
Achievement completion is mostly about finding secret eggs, but also about completing the entire game in one sitting without dying much, which is easier than it sounds after some practicing of just the hardest sections. This guide is great help: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=183410556
Limbo is an absolute classic, a simplistic platform-puzzler with a disturbing but unique and interesting environment. I played Inside before this, so going back to Limbo felt a bit clunky at first, but it quickly grew on me.
Gameplay
The platforming is simple and mostly solid, though it can feel a bit stiff compared to more modern titles like Inside. Some puzzles require insane precision and perfect timing, but they never felt unfair. It's more about observing, experimenting, and learning through failure – in the best way possible.
Visual Style
The black-and-white silhouette art is iconic for a reason. It gives the game a timeless feel and perfectly complements the grim, oppressive atmosphere. Every frame looks like it could be a poster. Minimalistic, but incredibly effective.
Story and Atmosphere
There’s no dialogue, no narration – just you and the world. And somehow, that makes the experience feel even more personal. The story is left completely open to interpretation, which won’t work for everyone, but I found it captivating. It’s more about the journey, the mood, and the tension than any specific plot beats.
Sound Design
The audio is subtle but powerful. There’s barely any music, but the ambient sounds do all the heavy lifting – from the echo of footsteps to the crack of traps or the hum of danger. It adds to the loneliness and suspense in a really smart way.
Final Thoughts
Limbo might be short, but it sticks with you. It’s not perfect, especially if you’re coming from newer games, but it’s a classic for a reason. Worth playing on any platform you can get it on.
Rating: 8/10
one of the best inde game with dark them and amazing sound it is very fun and the hard part was also very fun
totally worth oh MONEY!
This game had me confuzzled angry and in awe all at the same time and the ending is amazing. Also ggs if you complete the secret level
LIMBO is a captivating game with a unique atmosphere and captivating black-and-white visuals. It features puzzle-solving and platforming gameplay, encouraging critical thinking and experimentation. The subtle storytelling conveys a deep sense of emotion and narrative, making it a worthwhile experience for thought-provoking game enthusiasts. Despite being short, the game's atmosphere and clever design leave a lasting impression, making it a worthwhile try.
"Dark" but surprisingly chill to play. The minimalist visuals and eerie atmosphere pull you in, and the gameplay is smooth enough to finish in one go if you’re looking to kill some time. A great little game for a quiet evening.
if you want the full immersive experience you either have to be Einstein level smart or spend a lot of time on the puzzles cuz they get HARD later into the game. nevertheless pretty fun
this game makes people feel indescribable feelings.
i like every detail, everything in this game.
thanks a lot to authors of this game.
It was a fun game to play when you want to relax. However I was dying every two seconds, skill issue.
10/10
interesting art style, nice puzzle game but I just don't like some of them that made me frustrated.
Its a good game for sure and it gives me a challenge!! The puzzles are not to hard but not to easy almost perfect.(i almost raged quit-) There's a lot to do in my opinion 24 chapters of beautiful gameplay! it did take me a bit to learn the controls on computer but other then that i think its worth the money:))
Just finished the game after a few hrs of playing. It was an experience I've not gotten from any game in the past. It's a must try game for everyone. 100% would recommend if you're looking for a few hrs of brain twisters and puzzles.
Limbo is a hauntingly beautiful puzzle-platformer that tells a powerful story without a single word. Its eerie black-and-white visuals, clever puzzles, and emotional depth make it unforgettable. Short, smart, and deeply atmospheric—Limbo is indie gaming at its finest.

Best Puzzle Game Ever
The game is pretty good. I like the art, the sound effects and gameplay. I would prefer the game to be more story-rich instead of the whole story being based on easter eggs, lore and random theories but the game is nice regardless.
Playdead's original masterpiece. Saying it holds up after all these years is an understatement as it plays perfectly - feels very responsive and puzzle's are tough if you play without a guide.
The "No Point in Dying" achievement is VERY tough haha, especially when you get right to the end of the game and face a crazy gauntlet of death! :D
Happy to replay this probably 13+ years later and theres no nostalgia bias - it really is everything I remember it to be.
Good game! small tip: please click the action button on the arrow signs. It was a hard and tricky one lol. I'm glad I didn't search it up and noticed it after many attempts.
Cool and atmospheric game.
The first half got me really hooked - the spider and the random characters added a strong sense of danger and mystery. It felt tense and unpredictable. But the second half slows down a bit - the puzzles become more repetitive and lose some of that initial thrill. I mostly continued because I wanted to find all the Easter Eggs.
I got a bundle Limbo + Inside and started with Limbo, as recommended on Reddit. Looking forward to seeing how Inside builds on this idea and if it really is the more advanced version/experience.
Overall, a short but memorable game with a cool mood and style. Worth a play, just dark and minimalist enough.
Glad I finally played this classic! It had great atmosphere, puzzles pertinent to advancing the goal that took advantage of the world, and was just plain fun. Would recommend to any. Only concern would be some of the violent death scenes if you have a youngin' playing. But honestly, given its all silhouettes and literally shades of gray (no red blood) it takes the ick factor out. Certainly would recommend!
Limbo is an interesting game with interesting puzzles and simple gameplay, but that's what I liked most of all. Overall, the game is minimalistic with a mini-plot and an easy ending. I think it will be suitable for those who like puzzles.
I liked this game a lot! It's fun because it's challenging but rewarding when you learn a puzzle or get the jump right. You will die a lot on the first run but overall it's actually an easy game. I'm going to have to hop on Reddit to learn what the story was all about though.
The first half is decent. But puzzles in the second half rely on timing and extreme precision rather than thinking. Given how janky and awful the platforming is, the game significantly drops in the second half.
Lovely puzzle game!
Limbo is an absolute classic , if ur looking for a short puzzle game u should tottaly try it out. Game has a simple but a nice artstyle and a little bit of music when ur being chased or some important moment is happening. Puzzle's at first will seem easy but some rlly got me stuck for a bit at the end. I understood story slightly but I think it's more for peeps who enjoy making theories and rlly like symbolism. Achievments aren't for finishing sections of the game but for collecting white shards in secret areas will come back to gather all of them.
8/10
As a lot of people have already said, the first half was amazing, the scary spider, eerie atmosphere, ominous people [spoiler] (Both dead and alive) [spoiler/] . But then it became the ever so boring and annoying gravity jumping box shifting thing where if you need the solution just die and watch as things play out. There... most certainly [strike] some [strike/] a lot of is lore that I'm missing because I've got no clue what was going on. [spoiler] I'm not saying it's because of that but it's also curious that it was made by the danish. I'm not saying I don't like them, (even tho I do but it's curious to say the least. [spoiler/]
Tldr:
First half: 8/10 cool atmosphere and surroundings
Second half: 3/10 gravity timing puzzles, puzzles you figure out after you die to them
Pros:
Challenging, but very fun.
Cons:
Plot is unclear, no dialogs at all, sometimes i had no choice but to look up the internet for clues.
Came here after completing "Inside" and you can definitely see a lot of the great elements that made Inside so special. Like most predecessors of great games, this one is "merely" solid, as it definitely feels more like a typical puzzle platformer.
The start of the game has some of that unique genius that places us in the setting, but as you progress, the platform puzzles just seem more disjointed from the environment, and are mostly there to just provide a challenge, than to contribute more to the setting. The end of the game feels quite abrupt, and like a bit of an afterthought, so I'm glad I played it, but be under no illusion that it is a bit more of a straight platformer than Inside.
Inside was clearly a perfection of the style and gameplay for this team, so as a solid platformer, I am happy to throw money here and support them through both the games, I recommend you do to!
Great game. Simple, Unique, tells a story with no words
Challenging and interesting. Pure fun , no annoying ads or micro-transactions. Controls are easy.
Great game, a classic puzzle/2d plataform. If you like this type of game, this one is a must in the library.
This game is a masterpiece. Beautiful, interesting, and puzzles that you want to go back to do. Loved this game.
Super aesthetically pleasing puzzle game which does not pull punches and can often be a huge POS. I feel that INSIDE improves the ideas in this game to a high degree but this game still manages to be a short, fun, sometimes tricky experience which has a great sense of mystique and profound meaning with no clear description.
Dark atmosphere with Side Scrolling genre, without storyline and narrative context. Also added quite challenging Puzzle elements.
This was one of the best mind blowing games with very minimal graphics.
Mechanics are great! Well organized quests, not that hard but good if you are looking for a short and quite challenging game to spend some time. This is exactly what are you searching for!
The last few puzzles are challenging. Really good game. I recommend to buy this in bundle with Inside on sales.
One thing to know before playing is that this game definitely does not hold your hand like many other similar puzzle games do. Some puzzles may seem impossible at first, but then you notice something like a detail in the background that first seemed like a decoration. You have to be really observant and creative to beat the game.
(spoilers) The abrupt end was a bit weird and I didn't see what was happening at first, but after reading a little, I get it and it's a pretty good ending. I just wish they made it clearer to understand without confusion.
TL;DR If you liked Little Nightmares, you will most likely like Limbo too
Garbage.
This game started off strong, I would even have given it a 100 out of 10. The atmosphere was really haunting and terrifying. A spider relentlessly hunted you, traps were cleverly placed, and mysterious children stalked and tried to kill you. It was gripping, eerie, and full of promise, which I hoped it last forever.
But then the game completely falls apart. Everything that made the first half compelling gets tossed aside. The game becomes a dull, lifeless 2D platformer with zero sense of danger or urgency. All the aforementioned threats vanish, and so does any excitement.
Puzzles, the only thing left after the mid-game, are boring. You just need to die once or twice, learn the pattern, and then move on. That’s the entire gameplay loop: die, pass, repeat.
A huge letdown after such a strong start.
Not sure about history of these kind of platformers but LIMBO was a pioneer for me in terms of environment, setting and storytelling without having a word, a text, a voice line or anything.
Extremely simple game but doesn't mean it isn't special. I hope this game will be remembered for ages and I hope it inspires more games than it already have.
Also very beginner friendly for people that are not used to videogames which was the case for some people I met.
LIMBO is a hauntingly atmospheric puzzle-platformer that masterfully blends minimalist gameplay with a dark, mysterious narrative. The game follows a young boy as he navigates a shadowy, desolate world, solving environmental puzzles and avoiding deadly hazards along the way. The monochromatic art style, combined with eerie sound design, creates a deeply immersive and unsettling atmosphere that keeps you on edge throughout. The puzzles are clever and rewarding, often requiring precise timing and careful observation of the environment. Though the gameplay is simple, the emotional weight of the story, conveyed without dialogue or text, leaves a lasting impact. LIMBO excels in creating a sense of isolation and tension, making it a memorable experience for those who enjoy atmospheric storytelling and thought-provoking gameplay. It’s a brief but powerful journey that lingers long after you’ve completed it.
I didn't really care for it. The art style was pretty cool and some of the concepts were neat, but the puzzles weren't as challenging as they were mildly tedious. Basically, you would just walk through the puzzle, die, and know the solution. The platforming is a little funky at times, but even with that I beat it in under 2 hours. It's usually on sale for super cheap so it's probably worth it to figure out your thoughts for yourself, but I really didn't care for it.
(8.5/10)
- The game does not hold your hand. Some parts will be difficult and take multiple (if not 20+) attempts.
- I don't see ANY replayability here. Good 2-3 hour experience for a couple bucks.
- Definitely a classic I remember playing this as a little kid.
- Only buy ON SALE. (Anything >$5 is perfect).
Nice, atmoshperic side-scroller. Pretty raw but fun nonetheless.
Story: ★★☆☆☆
Music: ★☆☆☆☆
Gameplay: ★★★☆☆
Overall: ★★★☆☆
Cool puzzles, definitely one of the classics
Pretty good. I see why the game created a lot of internet talk back when it came out. I also see how this game, and Braid, really influenced the indie sphere for years. Format is easy to digest, and new gameplay elements come and go with just the right tempo to prevent the old ones from becoming stale. Should be in every gamers library, especially if you are interested in something fresh.
Absolute masterpiece. Not many platformers pull me in, but this and it's follow up Inside are great games that should not be missed. Amazing atmosphere and some challenging puzzles. Love the world they've built here.
The abrupt ending is so brutal for this game tho. I love games that has environmental narrative with no spoken words! Absolutely brilliant storytelling. Inside is still a better game tho.
Ending explained (spoilers)
The girl at the end is our sister that we have been looking for through the whole game apparently. And she is seen burying the player. The light beam we shattered through is our death and the game we played is basically symbolizing life itself as a journey. This is a dystopian world where the player and his sister both died and they are going to heaven through the ladder at the end, to the tree house above
One of the best indie games, exciting and mysterious, as if it were from another galaxy. The game deserves more than. thatCompared to its cheap price.
Despite it's excellent start with gaspingly brutal peril befalling the little lad moving eternally right all lit with an iconic black and white simplistic artstyle which only intensifies the brutality of each passing puzzle. Eventually however these puzzles denigrate themselves to finicky physic mechanics or have an incredibly obvious solution that simply takes forever to put in place as a result of the little legs of the previously mentioned lad you play as. Most unfortunate is that by the time these puzzles appear in the game no story or visuals appear that really impressed and even ended on a sour note, it really felt like the devs just gave up at that point and smashed the END GAME button where another puzzle should have gone. And this ending is a sour note symphony with a super "arty" and "interpretive" ending that fails to deliver any actual emotion or feeling from me besides "Thank fuck that's over with". If its already plaguing your library just kill the spider and go about your day.
Yeah no ending joke. Now I even saved you the experience of beating the game.
Its exactly what i wish little nightmares was. Clear game mechanics, entertaining puzzles, and hilarious death physics. Short and perfect (like bae)
