An offense on the eyes.

What story?
Levels are wack and the movement is terrible.
A really good, fast-paced, truly old-school shooter with solid gunplay across a whopping total of 75 levels. Its psychedelic visuals might be too heavy on the eyes for some but you get used to it after a while. I recommend disabling scanlines.
The Brutal difficulty is a significant challenge, especially once you realize that the majority of your problems come from the hitscan-type enemies sprinkled everywhere in the game. Basically, imagine Doom 1 gameplay with stronger guns but also Plutonia chaingunners everywhere. Interestingly enough, it does work for this game! It's refreshing to play an old-school shooter not based entirely around dodging projectiles - though you do get some of that as well.
Every level resets your loadout, so effectively you have 75 isolated mini-challenges of learning the map layout and figuring out resource management. It's just my kind of jam honestly. Your default mouse1 is a strong melee attack, and in order to fire a weapon you need to hold mouse2 to aim down the sights, then shoot. It's a beautiful system that lets you use both melee and firearms extensively - something you're gonna be doing very much on Brutal.
I really enjoy it when a project that purposefully looks like a completely screwed up mess actually features great core gameplay and a lot of polish. You can tell that a lot of work and balancing went into this. Anyway, solid recommend!

I fucking love this game so far
I couldn't give a shit about the level design, and the gameplay is very good imo. This is not a game for everyone, the subject matter isn't for a fragile mindset who's afraid of antifa, or anarchy based on what they've seen on FOX News, it's fucking disrespectful at every turn in the tutorial. It's truly for the dirtbag at heart.
The visuals are beautifully amateur and look like they belong on a 90's computer, reminds me of BBS era shit, even my own.
You'll love this game if you're a genuine freak like myself.

This game kicks ass! i love it! it has some ugly sprites to say the least, but the movement seems fluid, the blink mechanic is awesome, and who doesnt love a sexy ninja with giant boobs slicing people in half while shouting fuck you to the police and flipping them off? Play it!
This is a very fun Doom-style game IMO.
I like the art style and while the game is challenging, it is pretty fair overall. There's definitely quite a bit of polish on this indie game.
Keep in mind, I really like old-school Doom clones so I tend to be lenient but I really think that objectively speaking this is pretty good.
At the current price and even more so on a sale this is worth it for old-school fans!

SUFFER is a classic fps, that brings its own style to the table. The main character is an anarchist ninja going against the establishment, but there isn't really a story, just a very oppressive atmosphere, dark humour and punk music.
The developer here has gone full concept with his level designs, nothing makes really sense, and in many ways this reminds me of Rise of the Triad. Every level resets the player health and inventory, kind of like playing Doom with pistol-starts only.
I think this game is quite cohesive in its design, and pushes that to the limit.
The main faults I find are in the excessively dark levels, further aggravated by post-processing and HUD, and in the nearly unavoidable hit-scan attacks. Some of the enemies are really hard to see against the dark backdrops, mainly the cops and the executives.
I think re-lightning the later levels and giving projectiles to some of the hit-scanners wold be helpful changes, but I'm really enjoying this game anyway.
Garbage try-hard game from edgelord developers. Them charging this game for $10 is criminal, and it certainly isn't even worth a dollar when it no doubt goes on sale that low during a sale.
I was kind of flip flopping on whether I should recommend this or not but I finally decided I'm going to have to give it a pass. The game is okay at best but with other similar games out right now that are far superior I would say go with them, DUSK or Ion Fury. If you've already played them and still want to get some FPS going then give this a shot.
SUFFER can be frustrating at times, one of the main frustrations I found was that it's very hard to see the enemies distances or in certain areas. The game has so much black in it that things blend together and the black riot cop enemies sometimes camouflage right into the background. You can turn off the scanlines but doing so will make everything look pixely in a bad way, like a very tiny image enlarged to way too big of a size.
As far as visuals the game is ugly. The art style and the way it looks like a stretched out image as well as way too much black. The scanlines can somewhat improve things yet they add even more black to the screen, it's terrible to look at. The music is nice though, I liked the music although it is repetitive too, there wasn't much in the way of variation. There are some oddities here too though, you have what sounds like ex US presidents talking in the background at times or random lines just inserted for no reason. I have no idea what any of that is about.
I don't think there is really any story to the game either and nothing feels like it has a purpose. The gameplay is okay but not as fun as you'd want. The most common enemy, the riot cops, are infuriating because they will shoot you and not miss the second you appear in their line of sight. There's a few different enemy types but nothing special, the art style makes everything seem so generic, black and boring.
If you have already played all the recent awesome old school FPS games and still feel like you need more FPS action, maybe get this. It's okay. If not though I would say you should go for something else first.
I loved to hate this game.
There are so much you can object to in this game when it comes to design and choices the devs made. Ultimately I still give it a pass since I feel it suits the game. As a no fucks given game it will screw the player over and not really care what you think about it.
I played it through in one go on hard and I would only recommend that to other idiots like me. By the time you get the the end of chapter four (of 5) the game ramps up and presents some new ways of messing with the player.
It might be cheese instashooting hitscan enemies that forces the player to go balls deep aggressive style and at times it feels like a bit to much but all in all I had fun and end as a recommended because of that.
Just a fair warning, it isn't a game for everyone.
Complete and unmitigated disaster.
I'll tell you right now why the developer put a hundred nasty smear shaders over the bloody screen: almost everything is stock assets.
Every level from every chapter uses the exact selfsame textures and props.
Attacks are wonky, the level design is a complete joke and the enemies can't do anything else than either shoot at you or walk at you single file to hit you.
I'd say the whole thing is a joke, but absolutely no living soul on the planet could laugh at anything so sad.
I'll be honest, normally i'm not a huge fan of indie-retro games because they mostly can be easily made with game makers and usually have a lot of errors due to lack of coding. But this game is pretty good and has many elements similar with actually classic games (even small secrets where you can get sorta strong weapons) and it's pretty fun IF you are familiar with this kinda games. "Difficult" is true, it doesn't start off too easy gets much harder level by level, and it doesn't get much easier with stronger weapons (even rocket launcher-yes there is one). Normally in a classic FPS you can easily kill almost everything with non-stop movement, but since in this game the movement decrases the lack of enemy aim by a very low percentage (meaning they still hit you easily) you also need to aim and act fast until you get a lot of damage.
I'd give this game a cookie :D
SUFFER is a very fun FPS game made as a homage to the games from the 90s. It's a fast paced shooter with platforming elements and I'm enjoying it a lot. The difficulty is very balanced imo, it's not too hard but not a walk in the park either. I love how shooting things in this game feels, and although visually it clearly draws inspiration from Doom, I get more Wolfenstein 3D vibes when playing.
The level design is good too. I'm usually not to keen on platforming games but here it adds another layer to the game and makes it more interesting.
And don't be fooled by the apparent simplicity of the retro style graphics, if you take a moment and look around you can notice there has been a lot of attention to detail. I specially love the flavor signs and posters. Add in a music that fits the game perfectly and, well, if you like first person shooters you should give this gem a try.

Alright, firstly, what every other reviewer has been saying about the difficulty is true! this is a HARD game. In my opinion though, high difficulty means a highly rewarding gameplay experience once it has been fully mastered. I also think a lot of people are missing that the difficulty ramp isn't too steep, SUFFER does a great job of intoducing its mechanics as you play allowing you some time to git gud before you truly suffer. No other game has so seemlessly blended together aspects of retro shooters, platformers and fast paced ninja swordplay. A truely unique comic book inspired visual style and a complex epic soundtrack round out the experience of SUFFER to be on you won't soon forget!
So far I've made it through Chapter 1, and I ABSOLUTELY love it! Fast paced, lots of blood, death, and explosions! With a killer soundtrack to boot. I can definitely see this game gain some popularity with the speed-running community. I highly recommend!
This game has brought back so much nostalgia in a short amount of time! It's like oldschool Doom / Wolfenstein! It feels good, I played with both controller and keyboard / mouse and everything feels smooth and solid.
It provides the challenge of the hardcore experience that Doom used to offer as well, with some funny little hidden easter eggs here and there! I'm so glad I picked this up!
