I can't for the life of me understand why my weapons include future guns alongside a chainsaw from like 2004 but I'm not complaining
10/10 no notes
great game, weapons demons and a maniac that resembles my dad
Like playing the classic game, only better.
Great gameplay. Great soundtrack. Great brutal action! ;)
It's good, has a better tone then eternal, but is a little too easy.
It's insane that this game was on sale for 1.99E. Essentially free. It's a masterpiece. I have more than 1600 hours on DOOM Eternal, but had never played DOOM 2016, thinking that I would not like it compared to DOOM Eternal. Sure, DOOM Eternal is the GOAT of FPS, but DOOM 2016 is masterpiece of it's own. Thumbs up.
It's been ages since I've enjoyed an fps game so damn much. This game is pure fun.
Gameplay 9/10
Mood/Lore 10/10
Music 10/10
Level Design 10/10
My first Doom experience was Doom 1 back in 2006/07 and up until 2025 I've only played the classic Doom games up to Doom 64 and all their expansions. This was my first modern Doom experience and I'm absolutely blown away. Really impressed with the direction id software took with this franchise without forgetting their roots. This is not just a video game this is what you call art. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and I will definitely replay this in the future.
10/10 No complaints if you're a classic Doom fan you'll absolutely enjoy this.
Against all the evil that Hell can conjure, all the wickedness that mankind can produce, we will send unto them... only you. Rip and tear, until it is done. Absolutely phenomenal, timeless FPS classic
Never did I care so little about a storyline and just wanted to kill everything in my way.
A brief timeline of my relationship with Doom, to give you an idea of my perspective.
May 2016
Me, fresh off Brutal Doom, salivating over the AAA experience of the same carnivorous attitude. Can’t play it, for my laptop sports beautiful duct tape epaulettes. Have to substitute with Devil Daggers.

A neophyte witness of Doom and Doom 2, finally play the thing.Do it for ten hours on Ultra-Violence (not on Nightmare) then turn up my nose and say: “Shallow. Arenas have no real landscape outside of a basic shape of a bagel: you just run around in circles and shoot whatever crosses your line of sight”. (I stop after failing a hard fight a number of times).

Wanna do Eternal, but for training’s sake...
Nightmare this time.
The conventional wisdom is that Doom broke with the id tradition.
I see nothing but id tradition here.
Visually, Doom is all id Tech 4 aesthetics. Where Eternal goes full Heavy metal album cover, this one sticks to the tried and tested formula from the days id pushed for tech: shiny metallic surfaces, a wealth of blood and viscera, industrial architecture, desert outdoor environments. Feels like home (my home is Stroggos).
Gunplay and movement are incredibly familiar. They have a deliberate quality of sleekness, characteristic exclusively of id/Raven. Where most other non-CoD shooters throughout the late 2000s – early tens grew sluggish (e.g. Necrovision) or almost cartoonishly jerky (Shadow Warrior 2013), Doom maintains a kind of smoothness that makes the already high degree of cruelty even more pronounced.
Gameplay-wise, of course, a “kill to heal” approach to action was a gamble, because it meant relinquishing a great deal of control over the player’s resources. So, he had to be pressured hard enough to create a relatively balanced experience. I’d say they mostly achieved it, but not as elegantly as in their reprise with Eternal. Not as elegantly because this pressure mostly hinges on a single enemy.
Meet his majesty the Imp.
The Imp is the reason why despite arenas being very circular and mostly symmetrical (John Romero looks at you like an Icon of Sin), my old statement that you can just win by running in circles around it is void.
Imp omnipresent. Imp numerous. Imp fast. Imp hurt. Imp melee. Imp have large moveset, so Imp unpredictable. Imp shoot backwards Parthian style, so you can never be sure you're safe around it. Imp climb on walls and ledges, so you have to monitor unlikely angles of attack. And most importantly, Imp lead its shots with precision more befitting a torpedo fire control computer. Imp attacks are slightly arched, so it can shoot from behind low obstacles. Imp light artillery too.
Around 90% of my deaths were to Imps picking me off when I’m low on health after tanking a big attack from a massive enemy.
Surprisingly, when you think about it, they end up fulfilling the same role as in classic Doom, only in a different, substantially more dangerous way.The original function of the imps was area denial. With no vertical player movement, they blocked maneuver space with their bodies, and so many fights had to start with imp slaughter to free up operating room. Here they also deal in area denial, except not with bodies, but with line of sight. Imps force you to stick to limited visibility areas, because once you enter open space – it’s open season, and in the heat of battle there’s no telling how many imps are tracking you at the same time. This forces you to go full Dune and cross open areas in funny serpentine movement to scramble the scamp sniping calculations.
I’m getting a feeling that Imps were the most invested enemy in this game by a large margin. Animation, coding, design – you name it, Imp is going to lead in all departments. Everything else seems to be the main course, but in fact with the exception of a few particularly unpleasant enemy matchups wouldn’t truly work without the titanium-solid Imp baseline.
I love it. I haven’t seen an enemy so oppressive in any shooter that I can remember – least of all a chaff enemy. Eternal upped its game on the rest of the roster, but to do this, it had to nerf the Imp into the ground and delegate part of his duties to the Gargoyle.
The 2016 Imp is sublime.
The only flaw I can think of:there’s no sound cue when they’re booking for you from behind, which can be devastating given their claw damage.
Speaking of sound.
Original Doom’s big thing was its soundscape. All enemies and most of their actions (movements, attacks) had a specific sound which allowed a familiar player to decipher a lot of battlefield chaos by ear.
This Doom eats the old one’s dust.
Upon combat start, a protracted deafening scream overrides all audial perception of the player.
Sloppy.
Physics objects thud, thump, patter and clatter at the slightest collision with a wall as if violently smashed into it. This sounds like footsteps. Sloppy.
Bodies despawn with a loud hiss similar to one played upon enemy teleporting in.Makes you waste precious microseconds of attention upon the dead.
Sloppy.
And – music, music, Music, MUSIC, 🤘🤘MYUUZAAAAK🤘🤘 I CAN’T HEAR BEELZEBUB’S BELCHES NOR ASMODEUSES FARTS OVER ALL THIS NOOOOOOOOOOISE🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Look, in days of old there also was music aplenty. But somehow it didn’t interfere with the readability of the soundscape. Perhaps, because it didn’t have beats as sharp as the new Doom.Turned it off, I’m here for demons, not disco. It’s not like this party lacks in intensity without the audial hype.
What it does lack in, however, is confidence. The devs decided that maybe not all players will manage the whole thing, and so we have two “delete enemy” buttons: chainsaw and BFG. Have to ration them to get the most mileage, but they turn some fights from challenging to trivial. What’s worse, however, is the liberal powerup seasoning the developers treat every other fight with – especially in the final stretch of the game. The worst offender is Berserk, which turns your LMB into the third “delete enemy” input (unlimited except by time and faster than the other two). Ah, that peak LMB+W gameplay. Very fun in moderation, but moderation Doom 2016 boasts not. I believe you see it four or five times across the game. Four years down the line, Eternal has none of these issues, which again points to them being caused by a lapse of confidence.
Want to mention the secrets.Surprisingly, they’re back – worse than in the originals, better than in id Tech 4 games, and definitely better than in the sequel, whose removal of the crouch button did a lot to the detriment of secret-hunting opportunities.
What else? For what I believe to be the first time in id history, bosses don’t suck. Newbies fight them, masters melt them. Usually.
Right! Story.
The character tells his whole backstory with just his hand gesturing. How cool is that!
Sounds familiar, right? That’s because it was one of the leitmotifs that circulated around the net at the time of release. Sounds suspiciously like those “magic words” PR teams feed to influencers, so that they could hook up the audience.
What hands!
What expression!
Doomguy attended Marcel Marceau’s school of pantomime!
How starved are we for any degree of protagonist characterization if this feels like high drama?
“That’s not hunger, that’s famine”.
At least it’s laconic, and laconic is good. That won’t hold up for the sequel.
Anyway. At the point of writing I’ve put about two solar days into Eternal.
What I can say is:
Eternal is the better shooter.
2016 is the better game.
With one of the best enemies in FPS.
Played on regular difficulty, at a leisure pace. Game didnt click for me until I unlocked all weapons. After that, it was peak gaming. Its bloodborne but in first person, thats all you need to know.
Действительно хороший шутер. Если вы хотите расслабиться или выпустить пар из-за читеров CS2, то это та игра, которая вам нужна! Действительно лучшая версия DOOM, рекомендую!!!
For a 2Euro deal this was a steal. New DOOM amazed me when it gave me the feeling that im playing an OLD SCHOOL FPS. Fast movement, simplistic and great soundtrack. Nothing more to say, you get a gun and you kill Demons. Multiplayer is still alive for some unknown reason and it was fun.
I had more fun than expected and i felt like writing a small review.
Игра в стиле беги-стреляй.Первые миссии было интересно, в конце задушили просто мерзкими противниками.Ну такое
Beyond peak!
Almost 10 years later Doom 2016 still holds, it can be claimed to be one of the best FPS games made in the last decade, definitely one of the best games of the 2010's, when it came out it blew everyone away with it's raw speed, gore and that AMAZING music and I can easily say that playing this back in 2016 and replaying it now I even enjoyed it more.
This is easily one of my favorite games of all time, Mick Gordon introduced metal to the mainstream gaming audience with plugging in his 8 string guitar into synths and coming up with peak riffs.
The game itself is just pure adrenaline but has a slow start, unike eternal which is rapid speed this takes it time to speed up but when you get there, it is one "hell" of a ride.
If you are looking to play/buy this before the next Doom game releasing in 2025, it is a very safe bet, it's really not that long even if you spend time in exploring the maps and unlocking the secrets, I was done in 10 hours in the highest difficulty option the game offered when playing for the first time.
The mechanics are addicting, you want to level up your weapons, you want to do the challenges, you want to explore the map and get everything done, it's just so much fun and has great pacing from full blown combat to exploring with great level of exploration, vertical too.
Even in 2025 it beats so many other games that came out in the last 10 years, specially in the FPS genre, I really wish we got more AAA titles like this more often, the indie scene is great with many boomer shooter but a good looking, optimized to crisp FPS game like DOOM comes once in many years.
I can't stop praising it enough, a must play 11/10 game. Personally it was my second best game of 2016, second to Dark Souls III but I can safely say I love both equally the same.
Really good game, like really great game, as in super good game, like best reboot ever game 9.5/10 "needs more vegetables"
"They are rage, brutal, without mercy. But you. You will be worse. Rip and tear, until it is done!"
Doom (2016) is a brutal fast-paced true to the original modern shooter. And it is awesome. From the opening quote above till the very end of end credits (picture below).
Where to begin? Let's start with arguably the best part of the game — music. It is a phenomenal industrial metal by Mick Gordon. Each time action kicks in music ramps up and you can't help but rock your head and kill demons. A small suggestion: keep music volume at the max and bring all the other sounds down.
Next up is gameplay itself. Remember classic Doom? Fast action without silly interruptions of reloading guns or aiming downsides? Puzzle-like levels with a bunch of secrets? You've got it all in the new Doom. But the game doesn't stop there. Levels are vertical. And to keep the movement going you get ledge grabbing and double jump. Weapons have modifications and there is a lot of them. To keep gameplay dynamic and diverse there are challenges on each level which in exchange for weapon upgrades force you to play in the most awesome way possible. And how do you get ultimate weapon upgrades? Weapon-specific challenges. So you constantly jumping all over the place dodging hordes of demons switching between all your weapons while rocking your head to the great music. Pure adrenaline fun.
Once the action calms down you look around. You look around and see great landscapes of Mars space base. Or Hell. Or a bit of both. Going into this game I didn't expect to be wowed by the scenery but it's definitely something requiring a recognition.
And the last but not the least is the story. The game starts with barely any and any attempt to give you more of it is highly resisted by Doom guy himself. The only way to deliver it to you is to trap you. But don't worry, it doesn't take away much time from annihilating demons. And if you pay attention to it the story is pretty good. If also you go hardcore and read through the Codex which lay around the levels you will appreciate the world a bit more and find several interesting characters.
All in all, Doom (2016) is an all-around great game with 15 to 25 hours of awesome gameplay depending on how much of it you want to 100%.

If you are a fan of the DOOM series, this one includes the normal game along with an 'Arcade Mode' : An Arena - style brawl with you Vs. bad guys we love to hate from the normal game.
I don't know what to say except to remind you that this is an id game.
Experienced players know what I'm talking about.
I highly recommend the Arcade Mode, it's a great way to test your mettle.
TL;DR: Try the Arcade Mode if you're not into the regular missions.
This game is nine years old, and it still fuc - er, rips and tears. Incredible in every way and a definite must-play.
20 seconds after the game starts, your character smashes a demon's head into concrete. 10 seconds later, you get full control of him and start shooting. It keeps going at that pace, all the way until the final boss. If you want a fun shooter full of action, this is one of the best I've ever played.
This is my first foray intonto the Doom franchise ( I’m 47 years old ) and boy what a game. I’ve missed out on these.
The gameplay is fantastic and very brutal which I enjoy. I’m getting used to the fast pace of the game plus the music helps when it kicks in.
I’ll be buying Doom Eternal on the SteamDeck too as this and Eternal run perfectly on the Deck
Highly recommend for FPS lovers…different from most FPS games nowadays.
Its a good game. This is my first game in the DOOM series. I knew some of the very basic lore before hand but I admittedly looked it up to better understand and appreciate the story.
The most fun part for me are the glory kills, and all the different ones you can perform on the different parts of demons are really fun.
What I disliked the most were the amount of weapons and guns you have at your disposal, there are too many. Some are better suited for certain targets but I generally just used like 4 weapons usually, switching to a different one if I ran out of ammo on the main ones I used. Also how sometimes when you enter a part of the map and demons spawn they dont spawn all at once, they come in succesie type of way. Which can be annoying if you thought it was over, or werent expecting more.
Also I sometimes just got lost in the map, like I really didnt know where I was supposed to go, especially since some parts of the games map can be complex or nuanced.
The game can also feel a little repetitive at times, but this may just be me.
Overall its a great game, even if your not a huge fan or really know the lore of the franchise its still a fun time, would recommend.
Fantastic reboot of the old doom!!!
The guys at ID software did a great job!
The story is simple: A crazy scientist opened a portal to hell on Mars -> A lot of demons invaded the planet -> Kill them all and close the portal!
The epicness of the game is in the middle; How to kill demons! The arsenal available will be very varied, destructive and absolutely EPIC! It starts with the classic shotgun and ends with the gauss rifle!
The classic iconic weapons, the double-barreled shotgun and the CHAINSAW, will not be missing!
This title brings back the classic FPS without too many frills, unlike other titles here the action is adrenaline-filled and fast, it will be a succession of killings with weapons and in close combat, all accompanied by an epic soundtrack made ad hoc. We will thus see alternating moments of absolute calm where we will have to reach the next area and, you hear the music become more "tough" and here come mountains of demons to slaughter!
A must have if you loved the original title and if you love the genre. The more you play it the more you will feel like gods on earth!
100%ing this and doing UN reminded me that this game is ok.
It's not nearly as good as eternal but it paved the way for the best FPS ever made so it has some nice elements to it.
UN was annoying at the start, having reset multiple runs at level 2 and 3. Once you get passed the early game the game becomes a breeze.
The multiplayer stuff is ok, mostly a grind fest of a watered down quake. I'd much rather have all quake like weapons and faster switch speed for sicker combos. As it stands, you get two shotguns and mow down anyone not using two shotguns. I hate the bounty rune, IMO it should be on at all times and you can use another rune, punishes you for just wanting the grind achievements.
Overall solid, and if you picked it up for a few bucks on the sale give it a go.
this is my favorite game ever. everyone ive recomended it to has liked it pretty well, and no one has seemed disappointed. id say its definitely worth the money.
Nice action and locations but the game is a little monotonous. Would be great to have more different types of NPCs
Goated fast-paced game where every demon existing in hell shows who is superior is. RAHHHHH
This game is insanely well-optimized, and the combat feels incredibly smooth and satisfying. I've always been a fan of the Halo franchise and always wanted to try the game that inspired it. DOOM is definitely a must-play.
This game is a mess, and an insult to DOOM's legacy.
I couldn't get through the first two levels without encountering a variety of bugs. Physics objects sliding around indefinitely, UI scrollbars not working in certain contexts, and tabbing out and back in to the game enough caused it to hang and lock up my mouse cursor, requiring me to Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill it through the Task Manager using only keyboard inputs. Just a real lack of polish.
And it's just so goddamn bloated - you don't need weapon/suit upgrades or weapon mods. It's DOOM. It should be run and gun, not scour the map for secrets so that you can get more upgrade points. Very disappointing.
If you want story dont buy this game but if you want killing creatures, buy this game.It has a good boss fights
The foundation of the new modern era of DOOM series. Great combat, great music and soundtrack, and satisfy gunplay. Strongly recommend.
Back in 2016 i used to dream being able to play such game on my potato PC . 9 years later that dream came true , and was the wait worth it.
I enjoyed every moment of the game . The music , environment , demons , gore and especially the slayer , everything is just pure destruction and chaos. DOOM not only as a reboot but also as a stand along game is just perfect . I've completed almost all the doom games (except doom 64) , and this one is the best.
This might be the one of the only games I finished that never ended .
⟐ Doom (2016) boosted my testosterone level by 1000%.
⟐ It felt very nice to kill demons like it's nothing.
⟐ The Doom Slayer represents manhood (that I can relate to).
⟐ Once again, the soundtracks are powerful and well-done.
⟐ The weapon arsenal plays an important role of staying alive (and killing demons easier).
⟐ The background environments are amazing for taking screenshots.
~ Overall: 9.5 / 10 (Buy it!)
Excellent campaign, graphics, music, gameplay, this game has it all, and even more so with the price they offer on sale. It's even very well optimized and you can play it with a low-resource PC. Highly recommended.
I don't tend to play single player games but this game was on sale for $2. Its been pretty fun so far and I think I'll end of playing it a good deal more. I would recommend it.
One of the best shooters of all time. Period.
The flow is incredible. You can really let yourself go and test your fluidity and speed!
Its beautifully dark, its relentless, its carnage!
Can't wait for Doom: Dark Ages!
The game breaking bug where you would lose all your progress is where I felt like i got kicked in the nutsack by the devs, 10 hours of game time where I spent it looking for secrets and upgrades was just gone with no hope of a solution, it would be fine if this was week one of the games life, but we are almost 10 years in, how can this faulty feature still be present is beyond me, feels like the devs do not care at all, thus I cannot reccomend it, I can't overlook this, its unacceptable.
I already tried most fix i found online but none of them worked, if anyone has some more insight into this let me know.
Other than that the game is great.
Great game. Nice atmosphere and sound effects. Music is awesome. However, not a big fan of Bethesda as a publisher or a dev. Id Software I have respect for them and I'm glad they're the developers. I still believe in my opinion that Doom 3 is the best Dooms game. This is good, however. 8/10.
Everything you want out of a DOOM game and more. This game was true to its word and revived the franchise we know it as, with the 2020 sequel DOOM: Eternal, and the prequel DOOM: The Dark Ages coming soon this May. Ever since I first played it, 2016 (and Eternal) have both cemented themselves as some of my Top 10 favorite games of all time. It doesn't matter what price, this game is a must-play for any fan of the first-person shooter genre, as it completely redefined what it means to Rip and Tear.
You'll feel like an unstoppable badass as hoards of enemies bow before your steel barrel of demon-slaying justice. Every gun feels incredible to use as Demons explode into dark red bloody giblets, along with Mick Gordon's kickass award winning soundtrack that'll turn anyone into a metal-head and break your neck from the shear magnitude of head-banging you'll commit (somewhat based on a true story). I still pop in the soundtrack for this game, even years after I've originally played it because of how incredible it is. Every song perfectly matches what you're doing in the game as it's a dynamic soundtrack, meaning it'll get more intense the better you do. "BFG Division" became iconic across the internet as the "DOOM Music" song for a reason.
Multiplayer and Snapmap are there for those who are interested in a more community-focused experience, but the core of what makes this game incredible is its blood and gore-filled campaign as the Doomslayer sending the Demons back to where they came from. Remember, the only thing they fear, is you.
Rip and Tear, Until it is Done.
Besides cheap half-assed looking loading screens and falling through the map twice, it's a great game, and incredibly immersive. The map design is genius; No matter where you go, you always end up where you need to be. The green lights subtly guide you when you're lost, which is a really nice touch. Tons of hidden secrets to find, making exploration super rewarding.
very good game, however i toggled dev mode to mess around and then my save got corrupted so i lost ~3 hours of playtime
This is one of the best games I have ever played and as of the moment I only have 0.8 hours. The soundtrack is OUTSTANDING and the gameplay is great. It is insanely fun especially for people who love fps and shoot em up games. The graphics are amazing, too. Hope that anyone who plays this has a great time like I did.
I don't like doing this, but I have to say coming back to this game isn't fun for me...
Bear in mind, "not recommend" doesn't mean that I hate this game or those who enjoy it. I might even try it again in the future, because I think it does quite a few thing very well.
The thing is...this game isn't what it is advertised as or what people remember it as. What do I mean? Think of Doom 2016 and all that plays in every mind palace, mine included, is sweet music going "dudda-dudda doodleoodleoodle dudda-dudda-dudda" as beefy guns go "chunk-chunk-chunk" and "pa-kow pa-koom!" while demons get ripped apart...YEAH!!!
But that isn't nearly the whole game. Gracious me...the platforming and you know I'm right. Have mercy...the hard stop cutscenes, where my guy who rips demons in half stops EVERYTHING to watch a woman hobble her way to an elevator. Bruh, if I have to see a delivery drone fly off again...how about I get upgrades by ripping them from a demon?
Then, the combat isn't nearly as good as we remember. What was fun and fast and frenetic during the dark days of the corona-times, when I first played the game, is just dull, lifeless circle-strafe this and hitscan, hitscan, oop! I hit a rock and now got sucker punched by a demon and now I'm dead...yawn, wake me up when the game loads back up, thanks.
I respect what the game did, absolutely, but heaven above I'm tired of circle-strafing brown/black/red enemies in brown/black/red environment. I don't care about this story. I don't care about these characters. I don't care about these enemies or the environments...every time I come back to Doom 2016 I just get bored.
It did what it did when it did it. Again, I respect that we finally got a game that didn't have to have armed mercenaries show up so we could have gratuitous Call of Duty combat with chest high walls...yeah I'm looking at you, AvP! But coming back to this, I just don't like it.
It's been the better part of a decade and it is okay to acknowledge that something isn't a great as I remember. Again, if you like the game, don't let my words take that from you, but it is equally okay to acknowledge that the game is by no means some flawless work of the divine just because it has some good character animations.
I value Doom 2016's presence in gaming's history, even as I can't recommend it.
stunning grahpvis and its a good shoot em up for non brain requring activity
It’s a fun fps campaign, grab for cheap during one of the many sales.
Only thing to note- not your typical “carefully advance” fps. You are strongly rewarded by all mechanics to move quickly and kill at close range.
Also- always liked the sci-fi Doom 3/This One to what the other games have done.
got it on sale finally. glad i did. its fun so far and i like that the maps arent just "follow the bad guys" you have to actually use the map to figure out where to go, how to get to the secrets etc,
Seriously, DOOM is awesome. Killing demons is fun, the story's very nice, and I'm hooked on collecting all the logs and stuff.
This game is flat out incredible. What a triumphant return the best series in pure FPS gaming!
It's an all-time top 10 game for me. It's DOOM and it's the best one. The Devs have managed to recreate the originals faithfully while also including new and interesting systems that bring the classic shooter up to modern standards.
10/10
