I enjoyed the Game because I have been playing it since the first doom and now it is even better because of the speed in which you play through now and just all around better graphics.

definitely a good game to just turn off the brain and shoot anything that moves. good visuals and gore for a 2016 game. however the ending is kind of lacking although it is a clifthanger for doom eternal.

Anytime I have a bad day at work or have to work with someone annoying, this game lets me release a lot of stress and steam with anger. I love crashing skulls with some brutal metal in the background right before sleep. Such a therapy. Have nothing but a lovely sleep after ^^

Really good game as it holds in 2025, the bosses are a joke but most of the game is pretty fun with the good weapon variety and movement. Not a lot can be expected from a game released in 2016 but I have been told that Eternal fixes pretty much everything this game "lacked" off.

Yes, i would absolutely recommend this game. Its just awesome. And boii, oh boii, the music created Doom serial, and this one didn't disappoint. Excellent music, i can listen to it all day long mate! You a fan? If not, you will become one!

The environments are beautiful and the weapons feel nice when shooting, but it gets boring doing the same thing after getting all the weapons, you won't fall asleep but it gets stale.

Fun. Perhaps not as groundbreaking as the earlier installments, but still fun. Doom (2016) doesn't do much, but what it does, it does particularly well. A few nice levels, a few nice enemies, a few nice secrets, and a few nice challenges. Combat that is more about using the right tool for the job than about quick reflexes. There is somewhat of a story even. And a great soundtrack. If I had any complaints, it'd be that the locked combat arenas with repeated enemy spawn-ins are tedious. This is more pronounced on the later levels (which, for the most part, are but a sequence of arena fights) -- while I prefer the earlier levels with more chances to freely roam about.

I can’t seem to install doom eternal again. The last time I played it was in 2023. I wanted to play it again before doom the dark ages comes out but I can’t track down a place to install it. I have like 600 hours recorded on this game and I 50 of the achievements but none of that matters if I can’t play it. Does anyone have any ideas? I open steam on my computer and it am doesn’t recognize that I have it at all:(. Very frustrating:(:(

First boomer shooter/fps ive beaten the high octane gameplay is ideal for someone coming from a platforming background (like myself)

Great game, everything about it is amazing except one MASSIVE flaw, going back through old completed missions and getting collectibles, to get yourself caught up on achievements. then continuing from where you left off, restarting the mission will completely reset all completion progress made and it will save from where you started when you decided to back track on the older completed missions.

This game is peak run and gun game play. The soundtrack is GOATED and still amazing to this day. Just a well-rounded, all around fantastic game that I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys FPS games.

Doom is a fun game where you feel like a tank and go around shooting monsters, collecting ammo, health, and armor. It's very fun and enjoyable... until you get to any boss battles. After completing the game on the easiest difficulty, I found that the boss battles were more frustrating than fun. Also the lack of creativity when it comes to each boss also made it kind of boring, as each boss was basically the same just different weapons to dodge. I'm not really a FPS kind of person but when I tried the demo it intrigued me, so I got the game and had quite a bit of fun with it. But again, the boss battles were quite annoying if anything, but still recommend to play the rest of it.

Amazing FPS shooter with a great no non-sense straight to f*cking attitude. Effectively tells its surprisingly deep story through codex entries and voice over conversation but your too good for simple conversation with regular humans.

WOW. This is NOT an action game. It's a staring at the map game.

Third level in and I'm FED UP with his game. I'M DONE! It's an overly complicated maze of a map that is difficult to navigate even in map mode, and I've spent more time studying the map just to figure out where to go that actually playing the game. For an "action" game, there is WAY too much downtime just staring at a map and figuring out what to do. After 20 minutes of trying to study and navigate an overly complicated map, i have given up because i am just lost. There is no clear indication on how to progress to the next area even after downloading the full map. There is NO clear indication on how one area connects to another. This is NOT an action game, its 80% staring at the map trying to figure it out.

On top of that, they give you challenges to complete. There have been NO opportunities in this level to complete 2 out of 3 of them that i have seen. you are supposed to kill 6 enemies of a certain type, in different ways, but they WILL not spawn thru most of the level, and when they do, like once, the mission objectives do not give you the required environmental objects to complete it. maybe it exists in a one time certain scenario, but if you mess it up, you do not get a second chance.

OK. lets replay the mission and try to get the super rare objectives done that was impossible to get the first time. Got it. Oh no look at that, it wont save your accomplishments! as soon as you save and exit the game, they are gone like you never did them! you get no credit for your goals after exiting the game. COOL! as soon as you finish a level but didnt accomplish a goal that was near impossible to do, you have to restart the ENTIRE game from scratch just to get it to register, because replaying missions has absolutely no point of effect.

I've NEVER played a FPS thats so overly complicated and broken as this stupid stupid game.

I love this game! I get that I am reviewing it in 2025, Doom Eternal is out, and Doom the Dark Ages is announced, but still, I love it! Sometimes, the game is hard, but it is still awesome! What is there to be said about DOOM? The 1993/4 original was possibly the killer app that really put PC gaming on the map back in the early 90’s. Yes there was a games scene before DOOM, yes there where games that where starting to become standout (mostly because the PC was the first system to do CD-ROM stuff any justice), but a game that everyone wanted to play? A game that was nothing like anything else on the market at the time? (Then) Eye popping graphics? Fast fun blood-soaked gameplay that encapsulated the market? This strange and addictive thing called deathmatch, that would ensure that your school computer club would be renamed “DOOM evening” within three weeks? Hell yeah! It was the game that sold millions of PC’s back in the day.

And Damm… I’m glad I was around for it.

However, for all of DOOM’s importance and success id software never really where able to make a modern version of it that managed to recapture what made DOOM back in the 90’s so dammed amazing. No slight against them, they after all still gave us QUAKE, and QUAKE 2, and would still be known for doing some amazing stuff. However follow up on DOOM for the longest time never really happened.

DOOM 3 was a plodding affair. An OK game in its own right, but it was DOOM in name. The enemies and weapons from the 90’s game where there, and for the time the graphics where stunning. However, it traded fast action for slow scares. It just didn’t feel like DOOM.

This the second attempt to modernise the franchise? No, it understands what made DOOM, what DOOM was and is. It brought that fast, bloodbath of fun to a new age of gaming kicking and frigging screaming.

Yes, the (more slightly) maze like levels are back, the action? Dammed fast like really fast. DOOM 3 wanted us to creep down corridors, to pee our pants when the monsters popped up one at a time. DOOM 2016 wants us to run in there screaming at a hoard of them, blasting buckshot as you go, gibs flying past in your wake, anything and I mean left standing you rip apart like wrapping paper on Christmas morning. That’s not me just talking in hyperbole, that is the new gameplay loop!

You know what makes it better than the 2003 offering? Understanding how deeply music was involved. Yes 90’s DOOM’s soundtrack is rather bleepy now, but it was some of the best stuff to be rammed through our soundblaster cards back in the day. Heavy Metal (mostly thrash) was a deep influence on the 90’s DOOM, and 2016’s understands that. Mick Gordons buzzsaw like riffs kick in any time there’s enemy’s about (which is most of the time) and go with the onscreen carnage. It’s one of the best soundtracks of the last decade, not only for being so well composed, but fitting with the game and its legacy.

Oh, and there’s a story, its there, since this is a new era of gaming. However, for the most part its people over the radio, logs here and there. Are where you paying attention? Nope, because like the DOOM guy (sorry “DOOMSLAYER”) you probably turning daemons into paste and having fun doing so to actually care about “argent energy” and science experiments going very wrong.

There’s also a load of new stuff, like new weapons, an upgrade system, and gameplay changes to boot most will actually make your life easier. It’s also still fun seeking them out for the actually noticeable improvements that you gain.
Overall DOOM 2016 is one of the few games I consider classics from the last 10 years of gaming. It takes what worked from the 90’s and makes it better.

DOOM back in the mid 90’s made us feel like badasses as we chewed through wave after wave of the pixelated hoards of hell. DOOM 2016 manages to do that again, as you jam a double barrel shotgun up a big daemons arse, give him the buckwheat’s treatment, and then club him to death with his own face.
If you’re not sold on that then I feel sorry for you.

Nice little shooter. A bit short but a fun adventure and worldbuilding.
Great visuals.

Negatives:
No reloading bit gets a while to used to.
Not being to make manual saves is annoying, especially during long missions it can take you too back if you have to quit to deal with something else.
Enemy spawn points are annoying here and there. I really disliked enemies spawning right behind me during a wave.

The story's arguably better than Doom Eternal, but going back to this from Eternal makes you feel a little... neutered in comparison. It's still a very, very good game in its own right. Regarding side modes, Snapmap was more of a gimmick than anything, and the PvP multiplayer was outsourced to a former Halo multiplayer support studio; most people don't like it, and last I checked it's pretty dead.

If you're playing through the Doom series for the first time and haven't played Doom Eternal yet, I highly recommend this.

when i tried doom eternal on game pass, i didn't really like it. the glory kills felt too long, the ammo mechanics felt frustrating, and overall, even after playing for 4 hours, it just didn't click. at the time i just thought: "maybe doom just isn't for me".then i picked doom on a sale because why not, and realized i was wrong. doom is amazing and all my complaints about eternal just weren't present. exploration felt rewarding but not punishing if you didn't find a secret or 2, glory kills added to gameplay not interrupted it, and the ammo mechanics were much better excuted, while you still needed to manage your ammo, you had a bunch of ways to get it, and even if you ran out, you still had the pistol which was pretty decent.

overall, it felt like doom eternal tried to expand on doom, but ended up overcomplicating it. in eternal, you get told you are a badass. in doom you feel like a badass. so if you didn't really like doom eternal, i would still recommend you give this one a try!

Doom (2016) is a blast to play and upholds the Doom franchise as being influential to the FPS genre.

Played on Linux (Xubuntu)

This is an all around great game. It works, looks and sounds perfectly. It's one of the smoothest running games that I've played so far. Fun fast paced combat, great controls, the music goes perfectly with the gameplay. The story connects the previous Doom games and gives some back story to the Doom Guy. It's full of secrets and Easter eggs that pay homage to the original Doom games. There are enough game mechanics shared with the original games to make it a proper Doom game but also some new things like weapon and suit upgrades. Rip and tear until it is done.

Just completed the game and its load of fun. I played on the easiest difficulty and the game is still hard.
