The Doomslayer makes a return in Doom (2016), a reboot of the franchise developed by ID Software. The game stays true to its roots with swift, fluid, and brutal combat. We return to Mars, trying to stop the demonic invasion set loose by the corrupt UAC corporation. There is some loosely put together plotline that explores our protagonist's origins, but the main focus of this game is the unrelenting, frenetic gunplay. We have a variety of weapons with various modifications at our disposal and as well as fantastic glory kills that can be performed on weakened enemies and may include scenes of jaw dismemberment, head explosions, ripping out hearts, ripping off limbs and faces, and many, many more. Visually this game is stunning; detailed environments, rich textures, realistic lighting bring it into current generation standards. Doomslayer and enemy demons have beautifully crafted models. The game is locked in at 60 FPS, insuring uninterrupted fast paced action. The sound design is excellent, from weapons to demon growls. The music is a mix of thrash metal, a perfect accompaniment for the game as we rip and tear through endless demonic hordes. Multiplayer tries to be as intense as the campaign and is fun, but like most games its age, the online community has decreased substantially. Doom (2016) is a blast to play and upholds the Doom franchise as being influential to the FPS genre.
Played on Linux (Xubuntu)
This is an all around great game. It works, looks and sounds perfectly. It's one of the smoothest running games that I've played so far. Fun fast paced combat, great controls, the music goes perfectly with the gameplay. The story connects the previous Doom games and gives some back story to the Doom Guy. It's full of secrets and Easter eggs that pay homage to the original Doom games. There are enough game mechanics shared with the original games to make it a proper Doom game but also some new things like weapon and suit upgrades. Rip and tear until it is done.
Just completed the game and its load of fun. I played on the easiest difficulty and the game is still hard.

the game is good. after playing it has begun to be the best game in my library it is super hard go check it out!
11/10 game. Awesome combat and design. The soundtrack alone is better than most game out there.
Doom 2016 is one of those games that changed gaming for me. It set a new bar for shooters with its push forward combat, high fidelity graphics & performance and the general badass-ness you get to feel and enjoy. In story and tone it is superior to its sequel, in a way that you feel badass while in Eternal you're told you're badass. In gameplay though, it is not as easy to go back after you've gotten used to playing Doom Eternal: this game then feels kind of like how the original Doom feels to something like Half Life. Still, I fully recommend this game to anyone who has even the slightest interest in FPS games.
For achievements, I do not recommend it if you like to do 100%, the multiplayer achievements are simply too tedious :(
holy shit, this is THE best FPS game ever made. the game play mostly consist of shoot everything till its dead but my god is it fun.

It's one of the good old and classic DOOM Games thats ever exists, even with the old "DOOM 64" easter egg's and the Brutal kills are just fun to play!
And the lore is a piece of cake.
Demons to kill is fun and shit, but if u play it on hard, u get the REAL SLAYER EXPERIENCE!!

Good game, but I get lost most of the time. Thank god there is a map in this game. Also is this game kinda "fast". But it you dont have a Problem with it, then I would recommend it.

This is a good game - a really good one, but..... The first two thirds of this game fucking suck compared to the relentless action of the the final chapters. The music fucking rules

Pretty tough at first but once you get a good amount of upgrades the game feels fun and fairly balanced, at least on the normal difficulty.
A fantastic return to form for DOOM. Literally all my distastes from classic DOOM are gone and replaced with insane amounts of pure autism and testosterone. The game gets kinda easy near the end with rune and weapon mastery, but it was still insanely fun
Delivers everything you could hope for in a Doom game; beautiful, gore-soaked graphics, toe-curling sound effects, a sweat-inducing soundtrack, and simple, effective game mechanics. This game is a love letter to Doom. Made by devs who love the franchise. They have clearly worked very hard to polish their game to the gem that it is. So much fun, so much fun. Thank you :)
DOOM continued the process that Wolfenstein: The New Order started in 2013: to bring back an era of shooters without military propaganda, without any notions of photo-realism, and with an artstyle. Above all, it is a remarkably fun game, with a hilarious lack of interest in balance.
At its best, Doom is everything it should be: a single-player campaign that’s just you, your super shotgun, and barely the amount of ammunition required to kill every single demon on Mars. It feels like a Doom game as you desperately try to find health pickups to keep you going, an ever-growing menagerie of demons snapping at your heels. It's exhausting and exciting and a little bit dumb, and when you're into it you're all the way in. At its worst, Doom is a repetitive series of enclosed rooms filled with demons, all of which you must kill to advance, complemented by a derivative and poorly thought-out multiplayer mode.
First impressions wise, Doom strikes all the right notes. The Union Aerospace Corporation's research facility on Mars runs red with the blood of employees who’ve learned a new meaning for the phrase 'wrongful termination,' but that barely matters to the inexplicably mute Doomguy, who shoots anything and everything which moves. Starting with only the pistol encourages you to focus on the diabolically delightful Glory Kill system — shoot your nearest Demon enough that they become staggered and highlighted in blue or orange, and if you press F (or R3 on a PS4 controller) while standing next to them you will rend them asunder. That is to say, you'll tear off their limbs and, in more than a few cases, joyfully beat them with their own appendages.

This game is the peak of story telling and atmosphere. One of the best FPS games out there, the combat is insanely good with many different play styles.
I mean it's Doom. You kill Demons while epic Metal is playing in the Background. It's awesome!
There’s something about the pure grittiness of DOOM 2016 that I feel is missing from 2020’s Eternal. It’s that grittiness and dirty look that really amp up the atmosphere of the game.
On the gameplay side, for the most part it’s pretty smooth, I wish the weapons mods were a bit better, and fall damage is stupid in a game with platforming sections.

Definitely an enjoyable game. Banger music. Interesting enemies and arenas.
The story is serviceable. There are some glitches, i.e. fall through the floor after glory kill, enemy stuck in pathing, minigame bugged out. But the worst part is the enemy audio cues. Sometime you will hear enemy sound really close but it was on the floor above or below.

Classic Doom, today.
What id Software has done with the gameplay is nothing short of extraordinary. Level design, power ups, glory kills... every aspect of the game has been designed to push the player toward close combat. As a result it plays like a classic Doom game while still feeling modern. And what a fabulous experience classic Doom is. Sadly, the only approach to level design has been to build them as a collection of smaller arenas, thus making combat more predictable. Worth at full price.
A masterful reboot of one of the most important and legendary franchises in the history of games; bravo to id and Bethesda.
Best game ever. Should win game of the year rewards by my opinion. I think it's really underrated. People know doom series but they don't really play it.
It's awesome, I find the story to be better than eternal since the events are more grounded. Well thought out, expertly crafted, the designers really nailed it, soundtrack is an absolute masterpeace. Highly recommend removing the hud and the crosshairs, putting the weapons in the center and playing on ultra-violent.
Fast-paced demon gore ultraviolence extraordinaire. Oh, and with a banger soundtrack. It's DOOM. What else is there to say?
This is such a fucking awesome game. Its the only game i played through in a single day just because it was so fun. the OST is incredible, there's a lot of enemy variety, i dont think there's one bad thing i can say about this. BUY IT.
Despite being shown as a game, it's actually a $20 soundtrack with a free game. Amazing soundtrack; amazing game.
I give it a 9/10. Probably one of my favourite games of all time. I wasn't even born when the classic games came out, so this was my first time playing Doom. It's great if you wanna let out some steam (no pun intended) and even better if you're a religious man wanting to do some religious things including (but not limited to): killing any and all demons in sight.
It's a fantastic game. To bad the corpos plastered it with dlc, an AGGRESSIVE eula and 97% of the main menu is adds.

i'm honestly not sure if i've seen a better revival of a longstanding IP since and around the time this game dropped. presentation and gameplay were both absolutely nailed by id while still perfectly maintaining the essence of the originals from the 90s.
whether or not you appreciate the ways eternal attempted to build off of the basic framework set up by 2016's reboot is up to the individual, but in my experience pretty much anyone that liked doom prior to 2016 and anyone who enjoyed 2016 will admit that it was perfect in every way it needed to be.
following the plot is optional, really cool graphics, shoot demons like it's going out of style, fun stuff all around

I'm more a fan of doom 3 and the original games.
The "gore" genre ain't doing it for me at all and the story is basically non-existent.
You really are invincible in this game, man... it feels so "plastic" to just run around knowing that whatever hellish being you're going to fight you're just gonna kick ass every single time. it feels kinda ironic to play a somewhat soulless game (in terms of story, repetitive combat, etc.) while the graphics makes you want to stay around for longer.
also, it would be fine to have 12+ weapons if they would have some significance in terms of damage or usage, instead you completely rely on the quantity of ammunition so there's not really a point in having that big variety of guns whatsoever.
Maybe i was gullible thinking this was gonna build on the doom 3 story and maybe have the same mechanic foundation, but i was terribly wrong and just as disappointed.
although, as i stated, I can't talk bad regarding the graphics... the game is absolutely beautiful and really captivates the hell-ish-horror "everything's f*cked" type of feel.

Fun game, interesting campaign so far.
This is, by far, the fairest hardest difficulty on a game. You can make it through hell, but it will take dying 100k times. I will be there some day, but not today.
Really like the Action Pack Gameplay really intense battles all throughout the game looking forward in playing more of the series
I finished it (only 33% of players have the final achievement, which says something), but it wasn't very engaging. Skip this and go straight to Doom Eternal, a truly fantastic game.
The main objective of DOOM is to "rip and tear until it is done" and this game does it with excellence. Violence and excitement merge together in this game just right. The usage of classic maps is also a huge positive for me.
However, there are small problems with DOOM 2016 that are worth mentioning.
First off, I feel it was short and left me unsatisfied with the game length.
Second, there are a few bugs, more clearly, the player getting stuck in objects and NPCs which only means you have to reload the last checkpoint (which is not that bad, you get to rip and tear again). Fortunately, this problem is not persistent which could be really annoying.
And finally, I couldn't play multiplayer because apparently, it's dead. I don't know how it could be.
Nothing but damn good fun. Very casual and the mechanics feel like a true video game with beautiful graphics
