best saints row game of all time
install gentlemen of the row and the GOG exe file and youre good to go to experience this masterpiece
so, i have been playing this gem for the last 2 decades.. id say if you want to burn some time in a incredible sand box.. this is you're game. id recommend some mods though.. to make your experience the best. first would be the gog version of the game, along with GOR (gentlemen_of_the_row, rest in peace) and a decent reshade to get some ray tracing.
games nowadays days feel lackluster.. this one you will have beyond hours of fun.
This game is very buggy and crashes a lot as well. I wish they would just fix it, i used to love this game so much.
Flawed masterpiece, and there's a reason i've beaten this game more than once, this time on PC, and once on my PS3. but prior to that i had an Xbox 360 copy that would freeze if i went to certain parts of the map, so i never truly completed the game back then in 2014.
There's so much to do and so many interiors. This game is very ambitious, even by 2008 standards. You can see that sort of game design led to so many issues with the PC version and how it processed things, leading to unoptimization.
Yeah, the PC port kinda sucks, like Deadly Premonition levels of bad PC ports, but now with the Juiced Patch and Gentlemen of the Row alongside other tweaks i feel like Saints Row 2 is finally playable.
Volition may be gone, but the fans will carry this game forward. Hopefully many other great mods will come, which will make the PC version the definitive way to play SR2.
You need a Patch to play the game or it wont work properly.
This is the best Saint Row in the series & always will be .
VIP Volition !
Favorite saint raw liked everything about it wish they continued this style down the whole game but i like the switch up in the later saint rows the New saint row /2023 is the worst saint row possible tho if i had to rank it 1. Saint row 2 2. saint row 3 3. saint row iv 4. Original saint row 5. New Saint Row(the WORST one)
better then gta 5 (GET SAINTS ROW 2 JUICED TO MAKE THE GAME NOT SHIT)
It's nostalgic and fun tbh
Install the patches from the Late Dev Mike Watson (Rest In Peace), and this runs much better than the original PC port.
Having never played it back in the day, i have to say... This is a solid game, even by today's standard its fun.
This is the best Gangsta Simulator ever! It reminds me of the late 2000s when I was just a kid living in the DC Area. Unfortunately there were no ninja gangs in DC area unlike this game.
this game runs horribly, it may be better to try and play it on a used 360 than with modern hardware
if you can deal with the mods/patches you need to download this is the best saints row in my opinion
The PC port of this game runs questionably, but that doesn't hinder the gameplay much. It is still to this day an amazing open world third person shooter. The dialogue is hilarious, the game is customizable, and it is honestly a blast!
better than gta 4 really good story
game is better then gta imo but it dose often crash i would bring the quailty down to medium and it will crash less often . game is elite
Best saints row game
good ol gaming at its best.... now just a distance memories these days
Fantastically fun, adorable characters, a story that is much better than it has any right to be... It's easy to see why this game is so loved.
Just the PC port is terribly buggy. You NEED mods to play it, and even then it can be pretty janky.
At the least, do not play without "Gentlemen of the Row" or similarly comprehensive mod packs.
This has the best story of all of the Saints Row games, partially due to it not entirely losing its mind like it did in the later titles. Though it goes without saying, this game is especially fun to play with friends, though getting it to run well on modern hardware can be a bit of a hassle.
Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a bad game at all, but this port is awful.
Even with the Gentleman of the Row patch, the game is still full of bugs, crashes, spawning below the map geometry, terrible framerate. You have to be constantly manually saving out of fear of the game freezing on you and losing all your progress.
If you really want to play this game, it is backward compatible in Xbox . If you really have to play it in a PC, then emulate it.
Stay away from this version.
One of my favourite games of all time, and a comfort game that I come back to often. I wish we could have the first game on PC as well, but this is definitely the best game in the series, bare in mind though, that I haven't played 3 and 4 due to me not being able to get into the third game, it just wasn't the same to me. The plot in this game manages to keep a balance between over the top and serious gang drama, with some memorable characters and moments, the highlight of course being Johnny Gat. There's plenty of customisation and lots of side content to do, though no actual side plots, just mini games and activities. You do need the Gentlemen of the Row mod for this game due to it being a somewhat shoddy port, and unfortunately the long anticipated update that was being worked on by one developer, ended with him, after he tragically lost his battle with cancer. There's still plenty to love abut this game and I've played through it's story multiple times, probably will do many more times.
Pretty good.
Even with various stability patches, this game is still prone to crashing, so save often or be prepared to lose progress.
If you’ve never played this before and you’re more accustomed to modern tastes, it might seem a bit dated at first.
But in my opinion this game is still incredible and stands on its own. Every inch of this game was designed with the player’s enjoyment in mind:
- The map isn’t huge, but it’s packed with fun and diverse activities.
- It’s not photorealistic, but the art style is cohesive and full of personality.
- It doesn’t take itself too seriously. Whether it's society, culture, or its own story, the game is all about fun for the sake of fun.
This game oozes charm, especially when you compare it to more modern open-world games that can sometimes feel sterile or overly self-serious.
Saints Row 2 knew exactly what it wanted to be, and it was unapologetically that. It’s chaotic, heartfelt, ridiculous, and surprisingly thoughtful underneath the mayhem.
I'll start of with saying that I bought this game for very cheap (2.00€),
It certainly was worth the price! I'd recommend anyone new to follow this guide; https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2652709959
after using this guide myself the game runs better than ever at a constant framerate.
what in the absolute fuck is even the dlc for this game? complete waste of my fucking time and money on this bullshit. no wonder every game since the 3rd has been a flop
This version will not work on your system, it will require patching. tldr; the folks that own the game messed up and lost the source code, and the steam version is a older port. I recommend buying the GOG version as that one is a bit more updated. You can still buy this version and patch in the GOG version after you buy.
The patching is downloading some fan made mods and dropping them in the respective folder, so super easy stuff.
The game is super fun and stylish, looks a bit old bc it is old, but if you can get past that, its pretty much better grand theft auto 4.
Disclaimer!!!!
this game is old and wont be updated due to the company no longer existing it may have issues on windows 11 due to updates . you may or may not have to download mods to make it playable . other then that 10/10
After not having played it for years, I wondered if this game was truly good, or if it was just nostalgia. After playing it the past couple of weeks, I can in fact confirm that this IS one of the best games ever made. Unfortunately, this port is as bad as everybody says it is. I had to download two separate mods to help this god-awful port and still it ran like complete shit and crashed often. Despite all that I still had an incredible amount of fun, but I doubt most people would be able to enjoy this game with these constant frustrations.
controller support really lacking and all 3 times I've started the game its crashed.
Get the GOG version, its much more stable vanilla
The last Saints Row that actually worth something. It has so many issues as a bad PC port that needs to be locked to 30 fps to run properly, but the game play and its story is the peak in the franchise and we probably will never see a game like this anymore.
got to play game 2 times video loads up but never gets to the start screen. Screen cones up to give what happens, but doesn't
let me send it out.any help on this
dosnt work. why get it if you cant play it
They were not lying, this is absolutely the best Saints Row. It's also true that this port is a disaster, but if you download Juiced to patch things up, it will run beautifully. More than worth picking up.
saints row 2 is an immaculate game on pc when u optimise it urself
/!\ the game works perfectly ! just use the juiced patch and dxvk 2.4
and dont use msaa in game = 60 fps no crash / bugs you're welcome, guys.
great game on console
on pc its a buggy mess
I love this game and found out it was on sale i had to grab it but everytime i make it to the second mission my game kept crashing but it was running good in the beginning until then and i couldnt make it past that no matter how many times i changed the graphic settings so I had to return it sadly :( idk why theres that bug but i wish it could be fixed to enjoy the game fully. maybe others dont get it but i did and my pc can run it. if someone knows how to fix it tell us the secret xD
The game is great. This is not the first time I've played the game, so when I saw it was on steam it brought back some memories of how fun this game is. If you are new to SR2 on Steam, I would suggest any new buyers to know that this game will need some modifications to play the game because it's a bit glitchy. You can find this information within the SR2 community on Steam. It is a great community and they helped in making it work.
A fun open world game, full of activities, diversions, etc to take part it!
its a great game when it doesnt crash. too bad it happens every 15 minutes
Recommended with MULTIPLE asterisks
- Be prepared to mod this game for extra stability. Frequent crashes are true and inevitable.
- Be prepared to troubleshoot issues running this game on a modern system.
- And even once you've done your homework and optimised this game to the best of your ability, it will still crash, just less frequently and more predictably.
But if you decide to put up with all the BS that comes from this terrible port, you'll end up with a true modern classic, with way better attention to detail than you might expect (and an awesome story).
Think of this game like owning an old luxury car. It'll breakdown, irritate you, and won't always start when you need it to. But when it actually runs... it's glorious.
Got a crazy number of hours on X360, and a handful on PC.
HOW THE FCK are you going to give us such a amazing master piece of a game. Upload it to steam but NOT fcking remaster it and more importantly NOT give us the DLC?!?!?! I love SR2 so much. I wish they re mastered it and gave us the DLCs for it
Game constantly crashes, even after adding patch mods... gonna get a refund.
An incredible game, ruined by an awful PC port that crashes and bugs out even with patches installed.
Man, Saints Row 2 holds a special place in my heart. This is the game that started it all for me, my gateway into the glorious madness that is the Saints Row franchise. I fell head over heels in love with it, and it's been a wild ride ever since.
I've got this game on PC, PS3, Xbox – you name it. And I've played it countless times. Every time, I discover something new, some hidden gem that I missed before. It's like Stilwater is this endless playground of chaos and fun.
What I love about SR2 is that it strikes the perfect balance between over-the-top absurdity and genuine heart. Sure, you're causing mayhem, but there's a real story here, a real sense of building your own empire. The characters are memorable, the missions are insane, and the city itself feels alive. And let's not forget the customization! The ability to create your own Boss (I always play as myself at least once), to mold them into whatever crazy persona you can imagine – it's just brilliant. I've spent hours just messing around with the character creator, trying out different looks and voices.
Saints Row 2 isn't just a game; it's an experience. It's the kind of game that you can just pick up and play whenever you need a dose of pure, unadulterated fun. It's a classic, and it'll always be one of my favorites.
great game horrible port cant finish the mission cause it keeps crashing
This was a great game, but now all it does is crash. Just waiting for the game to be fixed now.
Replaying Saints Row 2 after so many years felt like opening an old photo album and reliving childhood memories. This game isn’t afraid to be absurd, chaotically fun, and genuinely engaging at the same time.
From the very first moments after escaping the hospital, the familiar atmosphere kicks in. City feels alive, crazy, and full of opportunities. The gameplay remains as wild and diverse as I remember, whether it’s working as a corrupt cop setting people up, driving a septic truck to spray buildings with filth, or diving deep into the main story. And speaking of the story, the classic revenge tale still holds up, making me care about my crew all over again.
Sure, the controls feel a bit outdated, and the graphics aren’t impressive anymore, but the atmosphere and sheer freedom make up for it. Saints Row 2 is an emotional throwback to a time when pure fun and chaos were the heart of gaming. And returning to that world was an absolute blast.
Score: 9/10.
