"A cult of madmen has brought the black flower from the realms of demons to our world.
As a warrior of the sacred order you shall fight your way through hordes of the possessed cultists and demons to destroy the flower before it blooms..."

BLOOM is a fast paced frenetic action first person shooter indie game inspired by the classics like Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Duke Nukem and the rest of the `90s FPS giants. Simplistic, no-nonsense, shoot everything that moves.
Two episodes with tons of actions, dozens of monsters, over a dozen of weapons, secrets and everything you'd expect from a retro shooter game.

Scythe, electric crossbow to pin your enemies to walls, flamer, dual pistols and sub machine guns, pump shotgun, double barreled shotgun, rifle, laser, minigun, plasma gun, grenade launcher, bazooka and ray gun plus a few secret weapons will be your tools of dealing with demon summoners in dark forests, toxic caves, concrete tunnels, castles, demon realms, spilling rivers of pixelated blood to psychedelic noise metal tunes!

This is one of the Best games I have ever played. So different weapons, enemies, locations. 100% I recommend to play !!!
It just crashed within 5 minutes of gameplay : FATAL ERROR UE4. And I can tell you , my computer runs all games just fine so it is software based.
Do yourself a favor and do not buy this piece of crap.
Time for a refund.
Diarrhea DUSK...
-Turn on SteamVR on start up. (always a good sign... atleast -NoHMD work but we shouldn't have to do this...)
-potato graphics on a Unreal Engine 4 engine...
-Unable to change Resolution, i was stuck on 3K resolution, so unable to record this...
-Turning Motion Blur off doesn't even do anything and still hurt turning around...
-Showing enemies that can spawn others right at the start... nice...
-Soundtrack doesn't loop (i mean it does but it fade away before playing again).
-Object such as ammo are almost invisible to me.
-Creature look weird.
-Props atleast for the Resident Evil inspired cheap gore system.
-Weapons doesn't feel satisfying to use.
-Alright movement.
i don't even know what i just played...
Screw that, DO NOT, buy this game
This isn't doom, this is a x and y axis shooter
You'll likely need cheats just to get past the first level, thats if you even do
I'm now stuck with these scammers game, they edned it with 2 eps, i beat all enemies on the first level and spent a hour and 30 mins trying to figure out how to beat the first level and still can't
They don't seem to realize coming from a level designer himself, your levels and your game will be 100 % times easier to you, and their cheat code for bloomtoohard makes it appear as though you're drunk, I spank doom and duke on any level
With these guys, nope, don't buy their game, they asked for this, rate it funny whatever this is the truth, as devs they should've made walk through vids themselves, bot no they diidn't even do that, i found one video, and this person couldn't even beat the first level
They fix these issues i'll change my rating, now i'm stuck with a game from some damn scammers
This is a mix of something really good and something not so good.
This game really has alot of things going for it, and some of those things it does REALLY well. I absolutely love the setting of this game. It is unforgiving, sligthly confusing and weapons, monsters and level design so far are great. The levels are also quite large in size and gives alot of room for exploration for boomer shooter standards. There is something about this game that feels medieval which is a huge plus. The weapon arsenal is also great. I also have a hard time finding the secrets in this game. I found only 1 secret (10 percent) in the first level, and there was a dead end which did not lead to anything, so this game makes you really curious as to where the secrets are located compared to other boomer shooters in my opinion.
The downside of this game is that you really need to get used to it. When you first boot it up this game it is confusing and leaves a pretty bad first impression, which is sad because the game is actually quite good. Enemies do not make that many sounds and you will suddenly take damage thinking it is a bug, but it is not. And this is what you need to get used to because the combat on this game is like that, and I started to really like it after understanding it. Some people have experienced bugs with shooting outright, which I however have not. Sometimes the monsters in endless mode gets stuck on things too. This is a boomer shooter, but more of a survival one with slightly slower combat pace. The game also is unforgiving in the way it introduces the enemies. Suddenly you jump in a hole and there is a boss. Suddenly you are in water and pick a key and enemies spawn around the lake you are in. However, I already come to love this unfair/unforgiving nature of the game. The soundtrack on this game could be better sadly, which would make the Atmosphere even better. Another confusing thing about this game is that the SMG seems to be better at close range than the shotgun.
If you decide to buy this game, dont expect something exactly like Quake or Doom, but something a bit more survival like, with much bigger levels and more sandbox/exploration like. You also need to give the game a chance because it is a little confusing at first, and the hotkeys for the weapons are terrible for some reason, which you can change in options. You need to learn that flowers heal you and that you need to remember picking them up. Scavenging ammo is a part of this game too.
I have only played this game for a short while, but this is my impression of the game so far, and I started to really like this game, even though the first impression was quite bad. This game just does something really unique. (Review maybe updated later.)
I didn't need to play this game for very long to realize that this is a rather poorly designed game trying to emulate what made Quake/Duke Nukem any good.
The level design is flawed. With Duke Nukem or Quake, you could generally back track, but it seemed like this game was designed in a way that forward progress would be met with you not being able to go back and look for secrets, or just side areas where weapons are located. In the first level you can trigger an elevator that entirely cuts you off from going back, which makes it so you can't search for secrets/weapons if you choose to backtrack. Even DOOM never really cut you off.
Interacting with the world is rough. Picking up health or items generally requires you to step on them perfectly, or run over the pick up multiple times before it will actually pick up the item. You might think you picked up the shotgun shells, only to turn around and realize that you didn't pick up even half of the items. It seems like it requires a pixel perfect step to grab the item.
When it works, the shooting is actually enjoyable. The particle effects of blood, as well as body destruction is actually impressive and a nice small touch. However, I could not help but become overly frustrated at the amount of times that I attempted to fire my weapon only for nothing to happen. No, this is not a mouse problem as there is no other game this happens on. I thought it might be an issue where the animation to fire for the crossbow/shotgun wasn't finished, but no, sometimes the shotgun's animation had finished completely, yet I was still not able to fire the weapon, forced to spam the fire command before it would finally work. Considering this game likes to throw hordes of monsters at you, not being able to make quick pin point shots reliably because the game doesn't let you shoot isn't good game design.
I could not, no matter what I tried, figure out a way to change the resolution. It was stuck at a rather low one, I don't remember what, and I couldn't even bump it up to 1920x1080. A game like this doesn't need to be set much higher than that, but the resolution really made the visuals of the game feel less impressive.
Finally I had multiple enemies getting stuck in walls. Walls that I couldn't even provide them with death because it wouldn't let me shoot them.
If you're looking for an old style shooter that takes after DOOM, Duke Nukem or Quake, stay away. This is not worth your, or anybodies, time.
You f**** game developers, you created a great game but have poor mouse support. You don't also make it possible to not have enough ammo to beat a boss and therefore have to quit playing the game (I'm talking about the UFO levels). I made it all the way to the last level of UFO levels and then when I played those levels again, I can't beat a boss that I've previously beat because for some reason- maybe because of a bug, I don't have all the weapons and ammo necessary to beat him. Also, like I said, poor mouse support. The mouse buttons don't always respond, this makes the game unnecessarily hard. Untill they fix the bugs in this game, I can't recommend it to anyone.
I really WANT to like this game, because I love indie shooters, and I like the aesthetic of Bloom (it reminds me a lot of Dusk, Blood, etc). But this game just has some issues that are preventing me from really enjoying this game...
The biggest issue is that there is a shooting bug (same shooting bug that plagues Hellbound, actually), where you often won't shoot when clicking the fire button. This makes combat much more difficult than it needs to be, and often results in unnecessary damage and deaths. This bug NEEDS to be fixed. When I click the fire button, my gun should fire.
Bloom also has some wonky resolution issues, where the game won't change to fit my desired resolution. And it also won't turn off Motion Blur, despite me toggling it off in the settings. It just creates a disorienting looking game. These two issues don't necessarily break the game for me, but coupled with the shooting bug, awkward keymapping for guns (there are A LOT of guns to be mapped in this game), and tough level design, and it just results in a game that is more frustrating than fun.
If the game gets patched, I'd love to give it a second chance, but there are just countless other indie FPS games I'd rather play over Bloom, in its current state.
This game is great, the shooting, the running, the enemies, and hell even the story are top notch! I enjoyed playing this game for 76.9 hours, and will still play it, and never get tired of it. The Bloomguy even talks and has a badass name, hell I even like how he's trying to flirt with the bartender, now that's fucking alpha male shit right here! And love it, never get tired of reading it over and over again. I just hope you guys, if you want though, you should make a sequel to this game... But we may never know though...
However the only thing that bothers me is that, surprisingly, the soundtrack for this game was never released. And I'd hate to not have a full album release of both the early access and the full release version's soundtrack to listen to it. If you guys would be kind to release the soundtrack from the early access to the full retail versions as a soundtrack, that'll be great. Hell I'll pay for it if I have to just to have those sweet tracks to listen to... Well it's up to you guys, but you could do us all a small favor if you released the soundtrack for us to enjoy them.
Fun game with lots of blood and gibs. Short on content and it is slightly buggy, however. But that's to be expected for early access.
Bloom rocks. It's come to be one of my favorite shooters. If it weren't for a couple of quirks, it would be a 10/10 for me. Great atmosphere, music, and gameplay.
So this is it
An "old-school fps" with only 2 episodes (containing what feels like unfinished and somewhat empty maps), questionable keymapping decisions, weird ass physics, a soundtrack that ends up giving me a headache rather than pump me full of adrenaline, and mehish gunplay
The only positivet I can give is the gore. I love it
Not so much the ribcage that awkwardly clips through the torso though
What pisses me off the most is that your selling this for $15 when it doesn't even close to that amount.
Not with the content it currently has.
Wow this game is fantastic and at the same time freaky as hell to.
Iam not going to write a long review as i feel most people on here who bought it
have said most of what i have to say.
But if you are into 90s fps games your going to find this game a riot, because
its pure gun play just the way you remember them back in the 90s.
For me its got the vibe of blood and shadow warrior a bit and alot of doom
to, which is a fantastic games to compare them to.
One thing i really what to tell people if you buy it, well turn the gamma up a bit
and turn your flash light on at the start of the game. The reason for this is alot
of reviews on here say you run out of ammo, no it just means its a little more hidden
at the start of the game.Theres also secrets in the game to and one is at the start of the game
which iam not going to tell you as it will spoil the fun lol.
Graphics are very 90s so dont expect cutting edge ones which is fine, as they are more
than suitable for this game and the sort of year the game is aiming at.
Just a last couple things to mention is the music which is pure stoner doom metal which is
awsome for me, and its kind of freaky to, which fits in perfect for this game.
Also the enemies are very freaky and the levels as well, which are a cross between
a satanic cult theme for both.
should you buy this game?, Yes without a doubt if you love 90s fps games which
are kind of hard and dont hold your hand like alot of modern day ones now.
But i would recommend playing it on easy setting first, as to be honest its more than
enough challenge to start on.
And the last but not least thing is, well from what i know this is a one man development
team, and honestly what hes done on his own is nothing short of fantastic.
So go and buy the game and support him, as its more than worth its price even without
a discount offer on.As we all know whithout people like this and not supported them
they wont go on to make more and bigger and better games.
UPDATE:
I dunno what else to say except...you asked for it.
Due to all the people who insist that 5 minutes is not enough time to form an opinion on a game, regardless of how immediately bad it is, I have decided to re-buy, re-install, and play 40 extra minutes out of pure spite. Spoiler alert: I was right and you were wrong, the game still sucks. It's not fun. It's not even mediocre. It's just bad. In fact, the extra play time made me even angrier.
* game is out of EA and nothing changed. I.e. THIS is the final product.
* unskippable text on new game
* enemies are ridiculously spongey
* enemies are badly designed. There's a skull guy in a flying cage that is 100% identical to non-caged skull guys, but for some inexplicable reason, they take 3 shotgun blasts instead of 1.
* game still plays like a unity asset flip even though it's made in unreal engine
* game crashes after you die
* the devs are either lying or horribly mistaken about the level not being linear. It's very linear. You go in a straight line through a straight canyon into a straight town that ends in a barricade, and then you backtrack in the opposite direction (ZOMG) to a portal that takes you 20 feet over (literally just past the barricade why the fuck is it even there?) to a windmill that overlooks a straight cave. Just because you can go inside the windmill (to do nothing) and there are little details on the side does not mean you get to deny that your level design is linear. You want to see an example of a non-linear level design? Look at literally ANY level from DOOM or DUSK or QUAKE or Half-Life or Perfect Dark or Turok or Hexen or Heretic or Blood or Duke Nukem or Shadow Warrior or Daikatana or ...
Stop bullshitting. You are all full of shit.
I WAS wrong about the weapons. There is an uzi-like gun and a shotgun, and a crossbow, and enemies seem to drop ammo refills. Wow!
...This doesn't make any difference. It makes the same amount of difference as sprinkling cheese over horse droppings to make them taste "better". The game is still bad. Playing 40 minutes did not change my mind. All it did was waste my time exactly as I predicted.
Also, no mouse sensitivity or FOV settings to speak of. Fuck you.
So to all you naysayers: never doubt me ever again. When I say a game is bad, especially when I have an exorbitantly small amount of playtime on it, it's because I genuinely found it repulsive. I do not and cannot recommend this game to anyone.
TL;DR - I was right.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This game is awful. The gunplay isn't good and you can just bhop past all the enemies before getting stuck. You have a melee weapon in the form of your fists, but they are completely useless as it is impossible to use them on an enemy without taking damage. You can kill headcrab zombies with the crowbar without taking damage. You can kill just about any enemy in DUSK with the sickles without taking damage. But if you try to go in for a sucker punch between an enemy's attacks, you will not be able to retreat without taking damage, making melee infeasible. The first level is a long, linear corridor and you are given no weapons, meaning you're supposed to take out the enemies with the weak starting pistol that very quickly runs out of ammo (25 bullets and no ammo pickups in sight). All of the difficulties feel the same, and attempting to restart the level after dying locks the game up.
You wanna play a retro throwback FPS? DUSK is 10,000 times better than this.
Quick Update: okay so melee is possible, kinda. It's very clunky. However, if you were to actually fight like this, it would be extremely boring and tedious because the enemies take too many hits to take down and it's just plain not fun to do. Why even have melee if you're not gonna make it viable or fun?
You can't use Early Access as an excuse for this. Issues like what I've listed should've been ironed out and resolved before the game went out of alpha. EA only excuses bugs and minor clunkiness. It does not excuse poor game/level design.
my laptop's that I have cant play this game and that sad becaues it look cool and i bet the game-play is great at the moment am asking for a refund becaues i cant play on my laptop but wanne i get a new computer I will make sure to buy it again and enjoy it I hope that the developer finish it becaues it look like a fun game.
So far this game is great, and coming from a single Indie company. Here is what I can give my thoughts about this game:
Pros:
- Levels are longer than other shooter games, this is not a joke and I love it.
- Too many guns in one episode, and all of them are quite fun and enjoyable.
- To proceed the next area, you need to get said key for that door/gate.
- Every enemy is fun to shoot at, and have their own strategy to kill you.
- You can move fast like in Doom and other 90's shooter game.
- Story is simple, and not important. You just run and kill shit, and I love it that way.
- The Main character is from a Sacred Order, possibly an Ancient Christian Order I guess? Cool though.
- The Main character looks like Caleb a little bit, but more original. Not complaining though. :)
- There's secrets in this game, so explore around to get them! :)
- The boss fights are the best part of this game, so get ready to get into a serious fight min'na!
- The end of the first Episode was the best part of this game.
Cons:
- There are some of the enemies that are facing the wrong way when you see them, they don't do anything unless you shoot them... I think this needs fixing, FAST.
- Also speaking about enemies facing the wrong way, and do nothing. There are some enemies that get stuck inside of a wall, and can still kill you. This needs fixing also.
- Optimization sometimes is bad in some of the levels, not all of them though. Still needs some fixing.
- Weapons may be fun to use, but lack alt firing mode, or weapon mods. But I guess it's just me...
- The Raygun/Bloom's BFG lacks effects, and sound. I think it needs a lot of fixing though.
- The Laser Gun is kinda weak and sounds like it's not strong enough. And does not act like the Railgun from the Quake series. I think you guys can make it stronger and sound like it's powerful though?
- One point in near the end, when I picked up the backpack, and when I tried to get some rifle ammo. It did not wanted to pick it up, thus I had no Rifle to use to kill enemies with. I think this needs fixing too.
- When I tried to Bunny Hop in this game, the movement to do so is too unbalanced and really bad at it. I think if you want others to enjoy this game more, I think you really need to fix the bunny hopping to work better for us bunny hoppers. Again, maybe it's just me I guess...
- And Finally, this may not be important, but what do we call the main character as well? I was wondering if you guys can make a simple name for the character of this game. Maybe calling him Bloomguy or something? I dunno you guys decide.
And that is all I can make up for this game, so I give to you guys a 7/10. I fully recommend this game for all retro FPS gamer's in Steam. May have some issues, but has a lot of potential. Trust me, it's worth it! Looking forward to the next Episode! Keep working hard min'na!
I love this game , it is actually evolution to the old fps games , i liked also the music i think it fits perfectly with the game. Can you tell us when approximately the second part will be released?
Welcome to Bloom :)!
From being a die hard doom fan and one of those people who must play every first person shooter ever made i found Bloom and i first thought no i'll wait for this game to be completed, i'm glad i didn't. This game is a blast, there is a story but meh it takes a backseat just like the shooters of the 90s and the gameplay is where this game excels. It is fast, brutal and satisfyingly challenging on the high skills which is what it should be. The movement is awesome just as good as original doom and the recent classic DUSK! you move fast and circle strafe around the enemy roster killing them quick.
The enemy roster is varied taking some inspiration from doom full of projectile firing enemies for you to avoid and some who just wanna give you a nice hug, these ones treat with a point blank shotgun round to the face. The weapons so far have been awesome from pistols shotguns, uzis, rocket launchers, even a plasma rifle stolen from doomguy but hey if you going to steal weapons you want the best when dealing with these enemies. You can even dual wield some of the guns too. The music is awesome and it amps up with the carnage begins. The level design is cool old school feel to it.
Now is it worth $21.50 aud for its current state. i would say yes due to the fact it is very playable with a roughly a couple of hrs content on offer with more to come i understand and its fun! This is game that will appeal to fans of fps genre if you played these games:
- Dusk
- Doom
- Blood
- Quake
Then you should find Bloom a enjoyable experience
Well Bloom is pretty good so far, lot of potential.
Bloodbath with shotguns, engage psycho mode with a super shotgun eviscerating hordes of demons and cultists.
You can also go full maniac with dual uzi's what's not to like ?
Now waiting for more content and better optimization.
Support this single dev project, buy the game.
Absolutely Fantastic!
First episode includes 8 missions and after the 1st and 2nd mission, the game really develops.
The developer is working on improving and adding to the content as well as a 2nd episode, but as it stands it's pretty fully featured and ready to be enjoyed.
There is some disparity with the visual design of the game and that might throw some people off, but trust me, if you like Doom clones, you'll love it!
Fast paced shooting set in a grain, demon-filled world.
Listen to the cultist scream as you shotty them in the face.
Run, jump and circle strafe your way to victory.
This is rad.
