OVERVIEW
About the Game
Death Is Not an Escape.
Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught, tortured and killed.
Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. The Killer plays in first-person and is more focused on their prey.
The Survivors' goal in each encounter is to escape the Killing Ground without getting caught by the Killer - something that sounds easier than it is, especially when the environment changes every time you play.
Key Features
• Survive Together… Or Not - Survivors can either cooperate with the others or be selfish. Your chance of survival will vary depending on whether you work together as a team or if you go at it alone. Will you be able to outwit the Killer and escape their Killing Ground?• Where Am I? - Each level is procedurally generated, so you’ll never know what to expect. Random spawn points mean you will never feel safe as the world and its danger change every time you play.
• A Feast for Killers - Dead by Daylight draws from all corners of the horror world. As a Killer you can play as anything from a powerful Slasher to terrifying paranormal entities. Familiarize yourself with your Killing Grounds and master each Killer’s unique power to be able to hunt, catch and sacrifice your victims.
• Deeper and Deeper - Each Killer and Survivor has their own deep progression system and plenty of unlockables that can be customized to fit your own personal strategy. Experience, skills and understanding of the environment are key to being able to hunt or outwit the Killer.
• Real People, Real Fear - The procedural levels and real human reactions to pure horror makes each game session an unexpected scenario. You will never be able to tell how it’s going to turn out. Ambience, music, and chilling environments combine into a terrifying experience. With enough time, you might even discover what’s hiding in the fog.
WARNING: PHOTOSENSITIVITY/EPILEPSY SEIZURES - READ THIS NOTICE BEFORE PLAYING

Fun game with some questionable decisions from developers here and there. Almost everyone who plays this game is miserable has made it their goal to make it as miserable of an experience as possible for everyone else. If you aren't running anti-slug + anti-tunnel every game as survivor you're actively shooting yourself in the foot, and it's still awful to play when you are running it.
Killer is the only way I can seem to consistently have fun, and it's because I have more control over the game and will be nice/mess around with the survivor(s) if the situation leads to it.
People also get upset at you if you engage in the game's base mechanics. I genuinely would rather go back to playing League of Legends at times.
Overall, decent-to-fun experience, but the people who play it make it one of the worse multiplayer experiences you could choose to play. Also a good amount of killers just outright take away core gameplay mechanics from survivors. Lol
I have spent my fair share of time playing this game, I have played for 1300 hours on console and 1000 hours on PC. Out of all my time playing and all the experience I have accumulated I can give you one recommendation for sure, this game is a fucking cesspool, don't waste your life playing it like I did.
my review is because of the fact its nearly 2025 and swf lobby issues havent been fixed.
game is great. got a lot of money invested. but the fact i have to restart my game after EVERY SINGLE GAME just to be in a friend lobby is fucking stupid.
Let me start off by saying, this game is not for everyone, however I love it!~
The community can be toxic and well... annoying alot of the times, and you'll probably end up getting tunneled out of the game within your first 5 matches, but with each match you get to grow and learn and develop YOUR own play-style and your own perk builds combinations, it's really up to you how you want to play the game!
I would highly recommend you get this game, especially if you have a friend to play with with :)
An incredibly scummy and toxic community. under-cooked and poorly developed content, and one of the worst new player experiences I have ever seen.
Do not play this game unless you have a dedicated group of friends you want to have fun with. I hope that one day a proper competitor comes out so that the devs realise that they can't coast anymore on a niche genre.
tldr; you will get matches where you will be able to do nothing. literally nothing. you will be held hostage and one survivor and the killer will do anything in their power not to end the game and the game will punish YOU and only YOU if you decide to leave game. this game is the most toxic, least fufilling, waste of money and time you can get into, worse than league of legends, cs, valorant all combined. for your own sanity do not invest real time or effort into this monstrosity of a video game, it is nothing but a bad joke.
when i load into a match, get found by the killer and loop their ass, i realize after getting hooked that none of my teammates has done anything. hate this game.
Terrible balance, the team in charge of balancing is so out of touch with their own game they release things without knowing it's going to be a problem, then nerf it to the ground. They release killers in a good state then they hear people complaining, people who don't even know how to plah the game, and decide to nerf them to the ground, if i was a license holder i would not trust them with my precious IP. Would not recommend, if i could get all my money back i would.
If you want to know if this game is objectively fun here's how you can tell: go watch any of the top DBD content creators/streamers, the people who are supposed to be representatives for the player base, who know more about this game than probably its own developers. Every time one of them says "Wow I'm having a lot of fun!" or simply appears to be enjoying themselves, add a point. But any time they complain about a mechanic, a player, a bug, server/player ping, or any other facet of this game, subtract a point. When you're done, if the total points exceeds whatever arbitrary positive number you want (let's say 3 points), then go ahead and purchase and install this game.
You are allowed to count 0 as a positive number. Good luck counting that high though!
Not worth it. Trust me, I thoroughly checked.
Huge money sink if you want everything available. Huge waste of time with a grind that takes hundreds, if not thousands, of hours to unlock everything for everyone. Community is nice, but the bad apples are real nasty. Playing games is like gambling. Sometimes you'll get an amazing match and other times there is simply no winning or having fun allowed, and there is NOTHING you, or your team, will be able to do. I'd recommend just disconnecting to save yourself the stress, but the game punishes that with temporary queue bans. Playing survivor is very frustrating because many aspects as to whether you win or not are out of your control and is entirely luck based. Playing Killer is either boring (when the survivors are unskilled) or incredibly stressful (when the survivors are very good and/or toxic). A lot of "Metas" past, present, and future all seem very unfun and frustrating to deal with. Memeing is rather limited, not many ways to screw around or get goofy as interaction is much more limited compared to other online multiplayer games.
I don't recommend playing online alone. I don't recommend becoming experienced.
What I recommend is staying bad, and playing with friends in customs. Mess around, have some fun, and then get off for the night. Should stay as simple as. It's supposed to be a game afterall, not a money grabbing grindfest.
I love this game, it can be a total blast to play with friends. Nothing is more satisfying than escaping a challenging trial!
HOWEVER....
It has a HUGE problem with toxicity and can be quite unbalanced at times. I've seen a noticeable rise in incapacitating survivors for a 4k since the latest update to the mori system, and as a survivor main, it is not fun to deal with. I don't mean just slugging the last two survivors either, I mean slugging all four within the first few minutes of a game. This used to be a rare occurrence, but now I'll have it happen multiple times back to back. It's so infuriating and there's only a handful of ways for survivors to counteract it, which are even more difficult to do if you're playing solo and have zero communication or coordination with your teammates. There's a penalty timer for disconnecting too, so if you end up in a game like this you can either waste your time bleeding out on the floor, or waste your time in the lobby waiting for the matchmaking penalty to go away. Oh, and DC penalties apply to matches you've been disconnected from due to connectivity issues as well, and as someone with terrible internet, I get kicked from games and penalized all the time for something that's out of my control.
In it's current state, I would not recommend this game unless you're prepared to deal with its many negatives. If you do decide to check it out, I recommend playing with friends. It has so much potential to be great, but the developers continue to make poor decisions regarding perk/item/map/etc reworks and ignore huge problems in the community, even though fans of the game are quite outspoken about them.
The amount of cheaters in the game is just hilarious. So many killers with maphacks, every 2-3 rounds a survivor being faster than a standard 4.6 killer, so many killers are glithicng around the map or instadowning/hooking 4 survivors during loading screen...just bullshit what this game has become
ENG : I definitely recommend playing this game with your friends because it loses its fun when playing with random people. When you play with friends, you can communicate within the game, which enhances the enjoyment. You discuss who the killer is chasing and where they are going, making the experience much more engaging. However, if you're going to play solo, I do not recommend the game. If you play with friends, it can be enjoyable, but of course, the decision is yours; I have nothing else to say about that.
TR : Bu oyunu arkadaşlarınızla oynamanızı tavsiye ederim çünkü random insanlarla oynayınca zevki bulut olup yok oluyor o yüzden arkadaş grubunuz varsa ve oynacaksanız birlikte almanızı tavsiye ederim tek başınıza oyun size çileymiş gibi geliyor.
This game is constantly buggy and the developers have no sense of how to balance perks and killers. They either release a new killer fully busted or they release the killer laughably weak. The perks are either complete garbage or busted -- there is no in between. Currently there is a miserable Hex meta that I'm sure will take months to even be looked at.
If you want a game to be miserable playing, this is the one.
(I am aware I play it frequently. It's one of the few games I play with friends and I spent too much money on it to stop playing now.)
I have played this game for years, i have over 5500 hours. i would recommend it only for the reason that you have a game to play with your friends. Other than that, i do not recommend it. The dev's ONLY care about the killer side of the game, almost every single game is ended before a single generator is done, and yet the dev's just keep buffing killers and their perks. While simultaneously making every map smaller, getting rid of over half of the pallets, and refusing to fix hit boxes and server de-sync so you get hit through every pallet that does still exist. I don't recommend playing until the dev's balance the game to the point it is no longer killer sided.
this game frequently reminds me not to have too high of hopes for common decency within the gaming community. much needed eye opener every time ty dead by daylight
This game is too buggy after every patch they put out. The new killer Houndmaster, they released them as a broken product meaning too buggy to even play. The balance team is not doing so good with balancing the game like nerfing Skull Merchant even though she was already a weak killer, reworking maps in the worst way possible, bugs takes the minimum of 2 to 3 weeks to even fix which is too long, some killers will have bugs affecting them for 1+ year. You have to grind a lot of hours to get what you need to even play optimal as a killer and survivor. They are also very slow at releasing new content like cosmetics take super long to come out for specific characters that people enjoy playing. The game is too repetitive with nothing new coming out. We still dont even have a ranked mode even though this game have gone more competitive.
This is a game with a lot of issues. The support team is awful, there are many bugs, and the community on both sides can be toxic. However, it is also unique. There are few competitive games on the market like it and it's fun to play with friends. Not labor of love worthy right now, but it did start that way. With some fixes and better support it could be a pretty good game.
I both love and hate this game. It's a great game to play with your friends but solo gaming may make you want to end yourself by daylight. The start might be rough but the feeling of satisfaction when you see that you are getting better and better is amazing. Get yourself baddies to play with that will scream when jumpscared by barefoot myers and sing when you loop for your life, makes the game experience better.
DBD is so much fun and really addictive, Every match is exciting whether you play by yourself or with friends. It's tricky at times, especially when going against more experienced players, but can be really rewarding once you get the hang of it. Definitely worth playing!
very fun and addictive game, even if you're not very good at it (like me)
Good, silly game, just don't take it too serious like many do, unfortunately. Play both sides, especially, play BUBBA!!!! Never check DBD twitter or any other social media basically. Community is overly dramatic all the time.
This game is like your previous long time ex partner that turned into a toxic relationship. No matter how hard you try to run away, you just keep coming back for more. Save yourselves.
Good game, problem is the progression to get iri shards (if your f2p) is very long to get a character. Also killers get bullied depending on the what they are fighting (swf) and some killers are very underwhelming like freddy. But overall, very good game depending on your side
Extremely toxic community. Far too competitive to ever be fun. Wasted potential.
Its honestly a lot of fun! Its got a bit of a learning curve, and the devs try to make the matches as fair as possible. There is sometimes a bad sport here and there, but overall its pretty good!
Great game, innovatine gameplay concept.
The only con for me is the very important skill gap. In the first hours you're gonna be a little bit lost but once you get used to the game, it gets really good.
This game is even better with friends but it is already really good and the devs still take care of their games by frequent new content (new characters and skins)
idk why people say this game is not friendly to new players. it honestly put me off for multiple years even tho i had many friends that played the game. ive been able to get a build i want for both survivor and killer in under 70 hours which i think is reasonable. some perks are paywalled but the game is 8 dollars rn and the characters are 5 bucks max. im willing to spend an extra 10 dollars on a 20 dollar game for a few of the perks you cant unlock for free. very fun game... dont play nurse.
Quite fun game, but bear in mind that toxicity exist in this game aswell, from both your teammates, and from the killer
Good game that I really like and unfortunately hate in some situations at the same time.
There are still cheaters here, so don't waste your money. The game is not balanced here, especially if you're solo queue. The killer will tunnel you, and your teammates won't rescue you from the hook. There's no communication, so solo queue isn't great in this game. On top of that, cheaters are often survivors. So, if you don't want to get frustrated, don't play killer. Don't waste your money and time on this game.
It’s a game where your friends save you or leave you to die. Killers are either pros or completely lost.
Matchmaking makes no sense, but it’s hilarious, scary, and full of chaos. 10/10 would scream and laugh again.
In 2016 the devs hit a jackpot. And they just ran with it.
The game's concept and its core are both actually interesting and all right. Everything else though...
In the early stages of the game it was plagued by the constant connectivity issues. Through time this issue improved but still persisted.
The toxicity of the game's community is on another level. It actually goes toe to toe with the atrocities of Dota's players.
Ignorant and greedy developers would rather release new shiny, buyable stuff than address the balancing issues of the game. And when they finally do address them, it seems that they do not even understand their own game. Blinded by the money and oblivious to constructive critique of some of their players.
There are many reviews and posts in the forums about how this game actually is, if you actually care and are able to look past that 47th new glittering hat of a character that they added to the game.
They all summarise it similarly – wasted potential by the individuals who care about themselves, not the community.
At first watching this game through Youtube and Twitch streamers for years I thought it wasn't that good, but omg how wrong I was, my friends finally convinced me to buy it and I learned very quickly this game is extremely fun and scary, all though it can be annoying at times. Playing this game with my friends is definitely the best part of the game. I would recommended this game to anyone who needs something to do in their free time. . .
Very unfriendly for beginners. Once you get the hang of the gameplay, it is very fun with friends.
2,550 hours and I'm finally dropping a review for this game.
I simultaneously love and hate this game. Dead by Daylight has delivered some of the least enjoyable and most toxic gaming experiences I've ever witnessed. But... I have to rate it positively.
There are very few games one can play for 2500 hours without getting bored, and I'm still not bored. Especially at the discounted price of $7 while on sale, that amount of gameplay is an unholy steal.
There are currently 37 killers and 45 survivors in Dead by Daylight. Many of the most iconic characters ever put to media are in this game, with more (*cough* FNAF) coming soon. Nowhere else will you see Michael Myers staring into Lara Croft's eyes as he twists a sharpened metal pipe into her abdomen; for that alone this game deserves respect.

Trash game. Bhvr be fixing nothing but their warm asses on their chairs. FIX THE GAME. trash 2v8 is unfair, those kids got reseting palletes and rebuilding them, SAVING (and i still hear how its killer sided), while the killers starve from being slow like snails and getting no buffs (literially same bs only that billy can down now). do yall even think while doing those modes or events? IS THIS A JOKE? ong i be praying on yalls downfall cuz this GAME IS NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS U HAVE A GOOD TEAM AND CAN OUTPLAY THOSE KILLERS: im both surv and killer main, but im telling from the killer side the main game got massive killer buffs while they literially shrink up like balls in 2v8 modes. AND THE WAITING QUEQUE? yall dont even go above 60k players a MONTH and be crashing them servs like crazy. just take a rope and consider it.
fun game minus the fact the community is very toxic. killers often will slug (downing a player and leaving them on the floor while hunting others), tunnel (choosing one person to chase and take out of the game completely), and face camp (stand infront or very close where a survivor is hooked) i try to have fun but its hard when you get killers who do these things.
Watched the cool trailers and funny reviews, bought the game.
Start the game, pass the tutorial, have fun killing bots.
Wait 10 mins in queue as killer, get bullied and trolled by survivors.
Quit the game, uninstall and refund.
Thank Jesus for not letting my life be ruined.
Enjoyable w/ friends yet so frustrating as a solo. As a personal opinion, survivor side is easier to handle than killer. If you are hanged 3 times thats it, you are out and in queue for the next game. On the other hand playing killer was a roller coaster. (hands sweating, constant stress to keep up the pressure and maintain control, being bullied by better players. etc) Still it is refreshing to play from time to time as long as you keep it casual.
Jesus christ no matter how much fun I try to have with this POS game, alone or with friends, the toxicity of the community and the complete and utter disregard for balance ruins it every single time, especially the new mori system which fully enabled and encourages slugging or taking control of the game. It has completely come to a head with this latest 2v8 event which heavily enables killers to tunnel, slug, stall the game or control the agme to points where either yours stuck, wait for bleed out, or just cant play the game at all. And trying to find a dan match as a killer is impossible. 10/20/30 minute wait times just to be a killer is idiotic. Fix your game or just admit it cant be balanced with how the game currently works.
theyre just gonna add new killers or perks to make the old stuff less worth it so you spend money on getting more stuff, it costs like hundreds just to get all the actual characters, and every character has their specific perks locked behind them so you either suffer or just pay loads of money. this game is just trash even the 2v8 mode they ruined. just disgustingly infuriating to play
You could get slugged for the whole entire game and waste 3 minutes of your life just watching your character die and being able to do nothing about it. The second you think about leaving so you can just get on with the next match you are punished with a matchmakiing ban. Anti-camp doesnt work and killers suffer no consequence from tunnelling . This game is so ASS.
I used to love this game. I had fun, square matches that tested my abilities. But now its hyper toxic hellhole, that disregards the integrity of the game just so you can "clown on" some killer. That's not even talking abut DLC power creep and anti-consumer practices. Yeah its a good game, for you and your friends. Yeah its a good game, IF you got in years ago. Not anymore.
I main a killer, Huntress, and I do my best to not tunnel. I go so far as to walk past survivors after hooking their friend. Now if you're blatantly taking massive risks, I have to hit you with some consequences. But I'll often act like I didn't see the survivor hiding behind the rock, when near a hooked player. I try to play in a way that keeps the game fun for survivors and killers alike. Some of my best games are games where I did not play my best. Yet is is difficult to maintain that policy, when you are treated in return with t-bagging survivors, every time you turn around. I have let survivors wiggle off my shoulder, when I slug two in rapid succession, only to have their team t-bag surround me afterwards. It tests the limits of my patience.
There are games where you will be kind to one survivor, because you've hooked them twice while the rest of the team has been doing god knows what. Then they think you're friendly and try to farm points off of your actions, or guide you to others. I hate this practice. Finding the balance between letting someone go free because they were unlucky does not mean I'm gonna let you roam free. I hit a shot even I think is BS through a window? I'll let you wiggle off my shoulder sure. But I'm not gonna let you heal your injured friend in front of me. Team member AFK? I'll wait to hit them until they start playing. That is not a license to not run when I hit you thinking I wont hook you.
Finding the balance that keeps the game fun, is difficult when it is exploited to both extremes.
There are also games you will have that push your abilities to the very limit and you win by the skin of your teeth, or suffer a loss that you are actually proud of. But these are few and far between. I limit my abilities to match the survivors I play against, to make it a fair and fun match. I fear I am one of the few who actively tries to preserve the community of the game.
The community is the biggest problem in this game. You are not equal participant and respectable opponent. Often you are just someone to troll using gen-run 4-flashlight meta builds. I loved this game. I don't love its community, I'm embarrassed by it, repulsed by it.
Don't get into this game, it unfortunately is one of the only live service Asymmetrical game that gets constant updates and provides an unique experience that you can't get anywhere, being able to play as Iconic horror film characters in a cat and mouse chase simulator is and can be very fun, the original killers they have are also unique and they all provide unique gameplay, you WILL find a killer you like and fall in love with their gameplay loop.
Playing survivor is also fun when you learn how to loop and how to use several items and perks, the killer provides different gameplay styles and there is much to learn.
Whats the problem then? First off, the horrid perk system that makes you have to spend a ton of money getting DLCs to have a semi viable build, some perks that provide counters to certain playstyles are not avaible for either side at base. Some of the strongest perks in the game are locked behind a pay or grind wall that will have you spend 5 to 8 hours grinding to first get the perk if you can even get it for free, or leveling up the character you got it on so you can share it to other characters, meaning that a good portion of your early gameplay will be with improvised builds that you don't like or are not even that good.
Second, SBMMR is divided into 4 brackets to separate players in their "proper" skill bracket, the last one is so wide it basically covers anyone with a few hundred hours that learned the game quickly and/or are just good to players that have 10k+ hours and play every single day for 10 hours. This bracket isn't too hard to reach and the worst part is you don't even know what MMR you are at, it's hidden. Meaning that after you start consistently winning as either side you will start getting harder and harder matches and if you've ever played multiplayer PVP games you know what that means:
- Less build variety as you have to rely on more "meta" perks.
- Less killer variety as only the stronger killers can compete with a gen efficient team.
- Less strategy variety as Survivors focus more and more solely on getting gens done quickly and Killers focus on getting one person out as quickly as possible.
This game at an above average level is basically exploiting bad game design choices and those become apparent QUICK when everyone on the match has an idea of what they are doing. Let it be some Survivor perks, Killer strategies, Items or whatever.
The balancing is also a mixed bag of "They cooked so hard with this" and "What the hell are they doing".
Do yourself a favor, don't get into this game, if you do you will have fun at the start, play more, start getting harder matches and hate yourself, but you will keep coming back because there is NOTHING else that can scratch the itch like this game does.
Dead By Daylight will keep you coming back because it's an inherently fun concept, and particularly fun with Kill Your Friends custom matches. However, it feels like it's managed by a developer that's shockingly ignorant about the state of their game, and will try to squeeze every cent out of you. Let's talk about:
(1) Maps. The disparity in maps is absolutely insane, and the community has been begging BHVR to fix them for almost a decade. Some maps are massive and incredibly survivor-sided. Other maps are incredibly small, and make the killer extremely oppressive. Some maps have a ton of verticality, which makes some perks and killers incredibly strong. Other maps have almost none, which renders some perks useless. Some maps have the most useless pallets that give the survivors a huge advantage. Other maps have incredibly strong pallets in such large quantities that the killer struggles to get anything done. To exacerbate this, map offerings exist, where a killer or a survivor can make it overwhelmingly likely that they'll be sent to a map that's perfect for them. It's such a meme at this point, that it's known within the community that players who use map offerings very commonly ragequit if they don't get the map they want, or if the match doesn't go exactly how they want.
(2) Killer disparity. There's an incredibly large difference in the base strength of the game's 37 killers. Some have very few tools, are almost never updated, and have become a joke. Newer killers seem to have an overwhelming variety of tools. Some designs are incredibly outdated at this point, and haven't really gotten any love from the devs. Additionally, the devs adding 3 new perks for every killer and survivor has introduced a massive amount of bloat into the game, and you're continually incentivized to buy more chapters/killers to just have a viable build.
(3) Add-ons. There are a stupid number of killer add-ons that add random exposed statuses, or have disgustingly overpowered effects. Survivor add-ons can also be incredibly powerful, when you talk about Styptics, Syringes, Brand New Parts, etc. BHVR attempted to balance these by making the best add-ons rarer, but this has a major problem: the game has been out for almost 9 years. At this point, some players have an almost unlimited quantity of powerful add-ons, and it puts newer players at an extreme disadvantage. The entire system needs to be reworked because add-ons can annihilate the game quality on both sides extremely easily.
(4) The meta. The game does a terrible job to try and get you to play it in the way the devs intend. The most fun games are close, and tend to be a little bit lengthy because of it. The devs want you (and encourage you through their scoring system) to spread hooks, get in a lot of chases, and generally have both sides interact with each other consistently throughout the game. However, the best way to actually win is to completely circumvent this. Survivors who are playing to win are incentivized to gen-rush and finish the game as quickly as possible. Killers can almost guarantee 3 kills per match if they camp and tunnel a survivor until they're dead, and then slug from there. This creates an environment where both sides are encouraged to play in a way that's actively un-fun for the other. Killers who don't play "mean" simply don't get to play the game when a 4-man Survive With Friends stack can end the match in less than 5 minutes. Survivors end up in games where they either get tunneled out immediately, or end up slugged for minutes at a time. In either scenario, they're literally not allowed to play the game. It's a frustrating scenario where doing silly shenanigans is incredibly fun, but you'll never get a chance if the other side is playing "optimally."
(5) Non-interactive mechanics. The devs continually add things into the game that are practically un-counterable. Are you bringing a build entirely based around flashlight saves? Well, the killer brought Lightborn, so your flashlights have literally no effect. You can get in situations where a survivor places a chemical trap on a god pallet. If they play with any intelligence, that's just "chase over" immediately. Are you in a situation where you need to kick a generator quickly? Better hope there isn't a blast mine on it, since the killer literally cannot see them (even though survivors can). Maybe you're in a situation where there's only one pathway to a generator you need to do, and Trapper has put a trap blocking it. Well, better hope he doesn't have Bloody Coil, which will injure you even if you disarm it successfully. Long story short, there are a bunch of mechanics that either cancel another mechanic/build entirely, or have very little outplay potential.
(6) The matchmaking. DBD relies on skill-based matchmaking that doesn't even function half the time. A friend playing on a brand new account was matched against a killer with over 4,000 hours. Sometimes, as a killer, I've been matched against a team of survivors that clearly has no idea what they're doing, and the match quality suffers for it. At the same time, the better you play, the more likely you are to start being matched against Survive With Friends bully squads who will make the match hell for you. Essentially, the better you play, the higher the likelihood that your match quality will drastically decrease. At the same time, you're going to encounter some games where you're matched against people who are clearly way outside of your skill range in either direction. You can usually count on the fact that about 50% of your games will be extremely un-fun, for one reason or another.
TLDR: The format of the game is compelling, and it can be incredibly fun when everyone is doing some silly/cool/fun shenanigans. However, the meta and environment created by the devs is so incredibly poor that DBD will have you pulling your hair out more often than not.
P.S. Buff Piggy
I love gaming DBD, and its fun to be able to play with friends as well. I particularly love that DBD has events during the year. As in new to the gaming world, and started gaming DBD resantly. around Halloween 2024. The Halloween event was on going, so I feel lucky I started to play it with the event option. I'm also lucky to have my brother and his fiancée helping me. Truth is, it was them that got me in to this and now I'm hooked 🤤😂 BUT.... It's of course I BUT here with this game.. I'm not fond of DBD not supporting keyboard and mouse while playing on Xbox!!! This makes me sad, frustrated and upset.. as most games on Xbox do support it.. this is one big problem that I think DBD should change.. you see, not everyone has the money to buy a gaming computer no matter how much they would like to.. (like me!!) I live by myself, and I don't come from a rich family and the options to save is minimal. I love the fact that I can play with friends that play from their computer and I with the Xbox.. but I would love the game even more, if DBD could support keyboard and mouse use.. because it's really hard and tricky for me to use the Xbox controller which makes my learning curve waaay slower. Also I find it really hard to control the Killer/Survivor with a Xbox controller.. and it makes me agitated and frustrated really quickly.. so if DBD really want to get more people to play their game.. they should support mouse and keyboard.. then people with a not so good economy and struggles with using the Xbox controller on this game as I do, will be playing this amazing game with a smile on their face. So my big Christmas wish this year, is for DBD to support the keyboard and mouse use for Xbox users as well.
This game need to die as fast as possible.
Survivor are unbalanced as hell. Since two seasons the only meta is gen rush.
If you try to chase a survivor for 5 or more seconds the game is done. Survivor do not need any kind of skill, because every skillful mechanic got removed during the last few seasons.
If you are a survivor main you will have a lot of fun to play Dead by Daylight, but as a killer main its one of the most boring and frustrating experience you can imagine.
Maybe the devs will improve the game balance but until this moment i can not recommend DbD to any killer main.
Very fun with friends but very unforgiving solo, esp as killer but suppose id need to get good. Hard to keep up tho when perks keep changing every darn update. Def a fun unique horror experience letting you play as both the killer and survivor and i love the lore and stories of the characters, wish that was more prevalent.
