Game is probably in the worst state of all time right now: Updates have become so bad in the last months, they are basically destroying all fun perks for survivor and killer and it's getting more and more killer sided with every patch. We only get max. 3 new maps in 1 year and most of them are poorly designed and buggy. The winter event mode got snowmans, that bodyblock you in chase by standing in the door frame and the devs decide to just kill switch the new released killer in event mode (without giving players a fix until event is over). They publish an extremly bugged chapter 1 month before christmas, just to make more money. You mostly get solo q mates, that do anything but gens and killers are tunneling and slugging at any time. Well done bhvr.. -"Pretty good job so far"

BHVR has been scamming players by having skins region locked but still having them available for purchase in those regions, and then refusing to give players refunds when they can't use said skins. Do not give them any money.

A recent cosmetic collection is region locked in certain countries, but still allow it to be purchased in those regions without giving the cosmetics. There is NO transparency about it being region locked, and people who fall victim to this have been given zero reimbursement.

If this isn't a scummy practice then I don't know what it.

SCAMMERS. Don't buy this game. Why and how you may ask?

Behaviour Interactive allows you to waste ACTUAL money on their FAKE in game currency on skins that aren't available in your region, the game will then take your skins that are not allowed for that region as well as your money.

Behaviour Interactive needs to refund the purchases of those in countries who purchased skins they shouldn't have been able to purchase due to a glitch and won't compensate them either with their in game currency or their actual money spent.

That being said I've played this game since release. I think I was in high school and even then I thought the game was rough. Every improvement they've made, the game seems like a full fledged game now on the surface but any person with hundreds of hours can tell you the truth.

The fun of this game comes from a simple gameplay loop, literal looping in this case, one that is very satisfying at certain higher levels of skill under certain conditions for both Survivors and the Killer. That's it. That's the whole game. Loop for long enough for your teammates to do boring generators and escape.

For years the developers have added ANDs to that sentence. Loop for long enough for your teammates to do boring generators and escape AND disable your head trap from SAW. Or maybe AND don't get ONE SHOTTED by Michael Myers.

Most who play this game these days seem to play it as a practice in misery. A theater of errors that is truly quite comedic. The developers of this game have almost impressively stretched this games VERY limited mechanics to the edges of insanity.

Some of these stretches in design are innovative but most are gimmicks, the same gameplay mechanic in a slightly different skin.

The developers clearly view this game as a "live service" "game". FOMO marketing tactics for seasonal events and skins, licenses leaving (Stranger Things) seemingly for good before being brought back.

It's a shame really, every other developer whose attempted to expand on killer/survivor horror style asymmetrical games has failed and the developers of this game clearly have no desire to innovate, just profit off this game as much as they can. A Dead By Daylight 2 would probably just be the same thing... :(

Hopefully one day another developer will expand on the greatest aspects of this game: the satisfaction of looping the killer, outsmarting survivors, using your perks to make plays with your teammates or as the killer. There's for sure a diamond of a game in this mess of a game that Behaviour has been polishing for years but I'm afraid Behaviour simply can't fathom how to actually improve on their one genius idea with anything more than gimmicks.

(My hours in this game on Steam do not reflect my actual playtime in this game as I primarily use PS5 with most my hours over the years spent on the PS4 version)

Cool concept with a terrible developer and worse community

Playing this game was the biggest mistake of my life. I would not recommend this to anyone looking for a "fun game to play with friends." It has some of the most awful people I've ever encountered in a video game and is horribly unbalanced. Not even fun with friends.

Fun game with potentially high skill expression, however eventually it does get a bit repetative if you are not playing with friends, although it really is not a fault of the game, it is something to consider if you are looking for a long term game. Also the monitisation is extremely predatory, they gatekeep a lot of the fun in the game under like 300$ and a massive grind or literally years of waiting for rng to give you the perk you want.

I got into DBD a few years after release. The game can feel frustrating at times for both the killer and survivors. The community tends to point the finger at the other side, but the reality is this game won't ever be "balanced" in a way that makes everyone happy. That being said, the game play is still fun years later. Not as much of course, but I still find myself coming back to the game from time to time. For anyone new, just enjoy the game and play however you want. People will try and talk about "the unwritten rules", but ignore them. Have fun and don't let the community ruin it. The game is far from perfect, and that's OK.

After almost 1,000 hours played on this game, I had to uninstall. I could not take the amount of rage and despair this game has given me on a daily basis. Every time I am lured back into another solo queue match, I am swiftly reminded that fun and enjoyment is not permitted on this god forsaken game. I had to make a choice. I had to break the cycle. The uninstall button loomed before me—not as a sign of defeat, but as an act of liberation.

And yet, even now, as I write this, I hear the siren call in the distance, whispering: “Reinstall.”

God awful game. The matches are too much in the killers favour. I understand that the killer has to have an advantage but what the fuck.
The matchmaking is horrendous. It constantly matchmakes a lvl 5-6 with lvl 30+ killers.
The survivors leave the match as soon as they're hooked so you can just fist fuck yourself cuz you're probably gonna lose that match, and the killers are just taking out their frustrations on the survivors cuz mommy didnt pay enough attention to them so they have to be assholes in the game.

They are shutting down the mobile version. They are checking purchases made on the mobile version to offer partial refunds in the form of currency in the steam version if you link accounts. So, they are fully aware of how much money was spent on the mobile versions, and could transfer the full paid currency to the pc version, but choose not to. Partial refunds that wouldn't get you close to the initial value of money spent on the mobile version. Not like they are losing money from refunding physical products or anything, It's digital currency bruh. They are even linking accounts so not like somebody could get away with trying to double their currency or something. Why do we let game companies get away with this kinda stuff?

I hate PVP games so much, usually all they manage to pull off is make me mad, but somehow, against all odds, DBD is actually really fun for me. I was really afraid when I got into it because people kept telling me that the community can be very toxic, and is full of people who have played the game for years and will just steamroll every match, but I have actually had mostly positive experiences with the community, and while I get fucked up pretty often, it's nowhere nearly as often as I was expecting

Would definitely recommend people to try it out if it looks interesting, might surprise you, like it did me. Just be prepared to spend much more money if you do end up liking it

Despite how addictive it is to play, it's an extremely unbalanced game that encourages toxicity. BHVR have shown consistently that they do not care about these glaring issues.

The average trial leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. Being a survivor is fun, if you can get a killer and other survivors that try to play their roles. I tried being the killer for a few rounds but i get paired with lvl 100 survivors even though it was my first time trying.

Ever since the update with the hound master the game has been a buggy mess in my opinion and the servers haven't been as bad as they are right now

As a survivor/killer you need to invest time or hope perks needed to have a fighting chance appear in the weekly shop. This is if you don't want to buy the DLC and grind out the prestige to have perks shared.
This game is just very punishing if you don't understand perks/techniques for survivor or killer and no matter how good you get it just ends up feeling exhausting to play because of the rank in casual games making everyone sweat their ass off.
There was a point when I liked playing the game and found it funny but now I just cringe at the thought of even considering to play it at any point regardless if with friends or not. I would not recommend this game if you do not have the time/money to play this game.

Game is filled with sweatlords. Unless you are playing killer or spend money on every survivor then you are just going to get slugged and camped at a hook. I feel like this game has just been ruined after the big rework

• Players giving up/leaving games early. Survivors being so sweaty/toxic that even seasoned players/creators struggle to win a game. Killers can be like this too, with hook/proximity camping, hence why they have added anti-camp mechanics to the hook, and perks to counter this playstyle. No proper casual/ranked matchmaking. Survivors finding the Killers/Streamers channel after/during a match and harassing them just because the Killer "played as intended" and they lost.
  
  
• "Nerfing" a Killer/Survivor into the ground due to vocal/ignorant players who don't truly understand or care about the integrity/balancing/fairness of the game. This making it both risky and potentially pointless spending 10+ pounds/dollars etc. on a DLC. As this seems to be the mentality/approach from them.
  - Side note 1: All this, and then potentially fixing them (the Killer - or survivor perks) later or leaving them unplayable (i.e. really hard to play/win with) indefinitely cough, cough Skull Merchant, Freddy, Good Guy etc. cough, cough.
  - Side note 2: Good Guy (Chucky) is still objectively a 'B-Tier' Killer, his example is more of a "fall from grace" type of deal, as others have said before me.
  
  
• Yes, they are reworking Freddy soon (Jan 2025 - potentially delayed, not sure), but if he ends up being "good" again, how long before they nerf him due to players complaining again, rendering the rework a waste of time? Or them saying they haven't nuked Skull Merchant, but that's really what they did. You know, just to silence the moaners until they can be asked to do their job right (i.e. "fix" the issue/problem). Which could take weeks, months or even years (not joking).
  
  
• BP (i.e. Bloodpoints) Farming, as in: Survivor/Killers working with each other (which is re-portable behaviour) to exploit the game to farm Bloodpoints. You either end up going down (3rd hook - dying) early, sometimes by a fellow Survivor "ratting" you out, so you won't be a "problem", or doing gens solo which makes the game go on for a long time.
  - Side Note 3: Some won't see this as an issue, and I think it is. It certainly isn't "playing as intended", and if some survivors don't wanna "play ball", can end with it being a really toxic and un-fun experience for you.
  
  
[*]Mentioned it in the previous point, but survivors ratting/grassing you up. I.e. Telling the Killer where you are. This due to them just wanting to troll or mess around, or because they've giving up and if they're going down...so are you.

Conclusion:

First of all the devs can be massive morons who don't seem to even play their game. Second the community can be toxic as hell. Thirdly game breaking bugs can be left on going for far too long.

But.

It's fun. It's fun solo, it's fun with friends, it's even fun when I am angry. Do I have to periodically uninstall it to stop losing my shit? Yes. But it keeps brining me back.

It's the perfect toxic boyfriend.

Anyone who plays this game on a new account for survivor gameplay in 2024 is a pseudo masochist. it isnt worth it. half of the killers are pay to win, legion is still horrible and tunneling has never felt more fun :). i thank the devs for coming up with the anti face camp bar but at that point the killer already has NOED and has downed two of your team mates trying to get you off hook. oh and whoever came up with the ideas for the Singularity and the Unknown i hope they stub their toe. The unknown can instantly down me with its bubbles and the singularity can sandbag you and trap you for an half an hour as it spawns behind you.(yes that did happen). so i will not be recommending this game at the state is currently at. Merry Xmax

Fun game with some questionable decisions from developers here and there. Almost everyone who plays this game is miserable has made it their goal to make it as miserable of an experience as possible for everyone else. If you aren't running anti-slug + anti-tunnel every game as survivor you're actively shooting yourself in the foot, and it's still awful to play when you are running it.

Killer is the only way I can seem to consistently have fun, and it's because I have more control over the game and will be nice/mess around with the survivor(s) if the situation leads to it.

People also get upset at you if you engage in the game's base mechanics. I genuinely would rather go back to playing League of Legends at times.

Overall, decent-to-fun experience, but the people who play it make it one of the worse multiplayer experiences you could choose to play. Also a good amount of killers just outright take away core gameplay mechanics from survivors. Lol

I have spent my fair share of time playing this game, I have played for 1300 hours on console and 1000 hours on PC. Out of all my time playing and all the experience I have accumulated I can give you one recommendation for sure, this game is a fucking cesspool, don't waste your life playing it like I did.

game is great. got a lot of money invested. but the fact i have to restart my game after EVERY SINGLE GAME just to be in a friend lobby is fucking stupid.

Let me start off by saying, this game is not for everyone, however I love it!~
The community can be toxic and well... annoying alot of the times, and you'll probably end up getting tunneled out of the game within your first 5 matches, but with each match you get to grow and learn and develop YOUR own play-style and your own perk builds combinations, it's really up to you how you want to play the game!
I would highly recommend you get this game, especially if you have a friend to play with with :)

An incredibly scummy and toxic community. under-cooked and poorly developed content, and one of the worst new player experiences I have ever seen.

Do not play this game unless you have a dedicated group of friends you want to have fun with. I hope that one day a proper competitor comes out so that the devs realise that they can't coast anymore on a niche genre.

tldr; you will get matches where you will be able to do nothing. literally nothing. you will be held hostage and one survivor and the killer will do anything in their power not to end the game and the game will punish YOU and only YOU if you decide to leave game. this game is the most toxic, least fufilling, waste of money and time you can get into, worse than league of legends, cs, valorant all combined. for your own sanity do not invest real time or effort into this monstrosity of a video game, it is nothing but a bad joke.

when i load into a match, get found by the killer and loop their ass, i realize after getting hooked that none of my teammates has done anything. hate this game.

Terrible balance, the team in charge of balancing is so out of touch with their own game they release things without knowing it's going to be a problem, then nerf it to the ground. They release killers in a good state then they hear people complaining, people who don't even know how to plah the game, and decide to nerf them to the ground, if i was a license holder i would not trust them with my precious IP. Would not recommend, if i could get all my money back i would.

If you want to know if this game is objectively fun here's how you can tell: go watch any of the top DBD content creators/streamers, the people who are supposed to be representatives for the player base, who know more about this game than probably its own developers. Every time one of them says "Wow I'm having a lot of fun!" or simply appears to be enjoying themselves, add a point. But any time they complain about a mechanic, a player, a bug, server/player ping, or any other facet of this game, subtract a point. When you're done, if the total points exceeds whatever arbitrary positive number you want (let's say 3 points), then go ahead and purchase and install this game.

You are allowed to count 0 as a positive number. Good luck counting that high though!

Huge money sink if you want everything available. Huge waste of time with a grind that takes hundreds, if not thousands, of hours to unlock everything for everyone. Community is nice, but the bad apples are real nasty. Playing games is like gambling. Sometimes you'll get an amazing match and other times there is simply no winning or having fun allowed, and there is NOTHING you, or your team, will be able to do. I'd recommend just disconnecting to save yourself the stress, but the game punishes that with temporary queue bans. Playing survivor is very frustrating because many aspects as to whether you win or not are out of your control and is entirely luck based. Playing Killer is either boring (when the survivors are unskilled) or incredibly stressful (when the survivors are very good and/or toxic). A lot of "Metas" past, present, and future all seem very unfun and frustrating to deal with. Memeing is rather limited, not many ways to screw around or get goofy as interaction is much more limited compared to other online multiplayer games.

I don't recommend playing online alone. I don't recommend becoming experienced.
What I recommend is staying bad, and playing with friends in customs. Mess around, have some fun, and then get off for the night. Should stay as simple as. It's supposed to be a game afterall, not a money grabbing grindfest.

I love this game, it can be a total blast to play with friends. Nothing is more satisfying than escaping a challenging trial!

HOWEVER....

It has a HUGE problem with toxicity and can be quite unbalanced at times. I've seen a noticeable rise in incapacitating survivors for a 4k since the latest update to the mori system, and as a survivor main, it is not fun to deal with. I don't mean just slugging the last two survivors either, I mean slugging all four within the first few minutes of a game. This used to be a rare occurrence, but now I'll have it happen multiple times back to back. It's so infuriating and there's only a handful of ways for survivors to counteract it, which are even more difficult to do if you're playing solo and have zero communication or coordination with your teammates. There's a penalty timer for disconnecting too, so if you end up in a game like this you can either waste your time bleeding out on the floor, or waste your time in the lobby waiting for the matchmaking penalty to go away. Oh, and DC penalties apply to matches you've been disconnected from due to connectivity issues as well, and as someone with terrible internet, I get kicked from games and penalized all the time for something that's out of my control.

In it's current state, I would not recommend this game unless you're prepared to deal with its many negatives. If you do decide to check it out, I recommend playing with friends. It has so much potential to be great, but the developers continue to make poor decisions regarding perk/item/map/etc reworks and ignore huge problems in the community, even though fans of the game are quite outspoken about them.

The amount of cheaters in the game is just hilarious. So many killers with maphacks, every 2-3 rounds a survivor being faster than a standard 4.6 killer, so many killers are glithicng around the map or instadowning/hooking 4 survivors during loading screen...just bullshit what this game has become

ENG : I definitely recommend playing this game with your friends because it loses its fun when playing with random people. When you play with friends, you can communicate within the game, which enhances the enjoyment. You discuss who the killer is chasing and where they are going, making the experience much more engaging. However, if you're going to play solo, I do not recommend the game. If you play with friends, it can be enjoyable, but of course, the decision is yours; I have nothing else to say about that.

This game is constantly buggy and the developers have no sense of how to balance perks and killers. They either release a new killer fully busted or they release the killer laughably weak. The perks are either complete garbage or busted -- there is no in between. Currently there is a miserable Hex meta that I'm sure will take months to even be looked at.

If you want a game to be miserable playing, this is the one.

(I am aware I play it frequently. It's one of the few games I play with friends and I spent too much money on it to stop playing now.)

I have played this game for years, i have over 5500 hours. i would recommend it only for the reason that you have a game to play with your friends. Other than that, i do not recommend it. The dev's ONLY care about the killer side of the game, almost every single game is ended before a single generator is done, and yet the dev's just keep buffing killers and their perks. While simultaneously making every map smaller, getting rid of over half of the pallets, and refusing to fix hit boxes and server de-sync so you get hit through every pallet that does still exist. I don't recommend playing until the dev's balance the game to the point it is no longer killer sided.

This game is too buggy after every patch they put out. The new killer Houndmaster, they released them as a broken product meaning too buggy to even play. The balance team is not doing so good with balancing the game like nerfing Skull Merchant even though she was already a weak killer, reworking maps in the worst way possible, bugs takes the minimum of 2 to 3 weeks to even fix which is too long, some killers will have bugs affecting them for 1+ year. You have to grind a lot of hours to get what you need to even play optimal as a killer and survivor. They are also very slow at releasing new content like cosmetics take super long to come out for specific characters that people enjoy playing. The game is too repetitive with nothing new coming out. We still dont even have a ranked mode even though this game have gone more competitive.

This is a game with a lot of issues. The support team is awful, there are many bugs, and the community on both sides can be toxic. However, it is also unique. There are few competitive games on the market like it and it's fun to play with friends. Not labor of love worthy right now, but it did start that way. With some fixes and better support it could be a pretty good game.

I both love and hate this game. It's a great game to play with your friends but solo gaming may make you want to end yourself by daylight. The start might be rough but the feeling of satisfaction when you see that you are getting better and better is amazing. Get yourself baddies to play with that will scream when jumpscared by barefoot myers and sing when you loop for your life, makes the game experience better.

DBD is so much fun and really addictive, Every match is exciting whether you play by yourself or with friends. It's tricky at times, especially when going against more experienced players, but can be really rewarding once you get the hang of it. Definitely worth playing!
