Return to the wonderful world of Dead Island, this is in every way the game we've waited for since the teaser was shown years ago. Don't get me wrong, it is a fantastic game and I loved every second of it. The only two bits that I thought were a bit meh were the last quarter of the game, which felt a bit rushed and the final boss was quite anti-climactic. That doesn't mean it's a bad game at all, I thoroughly enjoyed HELL-A and the game certainly seems to have some replayability!
Very fun. Beat the main story. Going back in to do all the side quests, collectibles, and dlc. My pros rewards never synced to my account which kinda sucks, but I am still enjoying the game.
I have played all of dead island series of games and loved them but this one... this one is my favorite by far and quite possibly my favorite game in general. If you like getting crafty when slaying zombies this game is for you. The story is very vivid and has TONS of side quest and rewards. I've platinum trophied this game on playstaion and done 2 playthroughs on pc. I love Hell-A!
better than dying light for zombie variety ,gore and zombie realism/physics (flesh system is insane) ,photo realistic graphics with real LA locations and interiors .
worse than DL in parcour and adrenaline feeling (night runs) but in general i think DI 2 is a good zombie game, the best one right now on the market .
If you're looking for a game where you can turn off and just unwind, this game is perfect for that. The combat is a lot of fun and the story/characters suck just enough that you can skip all of the cutscenes.
Slayers and Bobcats,
We hope you’ve been enjoying the new content in Patch 6, including Neighborhood Watch and New Game+! We know some bugs can pop up now and then, like achievements not unlocking, and we’re always working hard to squash them. That’s why we’re bringing you the seventh quality-of-life update for Dead Island 2—geared towards making your HELL-A adventures even more seamless.
Meanwhile, let’s take a moment to highlight the seventh quality-of-life patch. It tackled pesky bugs and fine-tuned combat and skills for a better slaying experience. Dive into the full patch details below
Pretty fun game, mindless zombie slaying. Great graphics on the gore and environments. Steep difficulty at the beginning but then once you get a build and the weapons for your playstyle, the gmae is just glorious. Easily a 8.5 out of 10. I bought on a sale and didn't regret it.
HIGHLY recommend playing this in coop, even with strangers, playing it solo is... fun but! nowhere near as much fun as coop.
got it on sale with all the DLC and it was 100% worth it for $56aud
IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE!
if you're having issues with the game crashing, freezing or stuttering you can go into the settings and fix it via turning ON or OFF the amd fidelity fx setting, i had to turn mine on to fix my crashing (even though i run an nvidea card and intel cpu) this helped my issue and the game runs perfectly now, you may need to turn it off or on depending on your rig. but yea both settings in the amd area i tuned on, if you cant turn the bottom one on turn the top one off first then the bottom one. o7 good luck out there and remember folks
NEVER PLAY SOLO, its horrible alone.
Tbh, really fun game. Gore is nicely done and wheapon customizing is great.
visual's and gameplay its better than the original...the original has my heart but 2 is really fucking good.....im playing on a 14700k 32gb ram rtx 4070 ultra 1440p 100+fps until you hit monica beach
nevertheless the game is b e a utiful and runs very well 10/10 great game for the collection
The devs kicked everything what made the first dead island great and threw it out of the window to replace it with cringe and quirky dialogue, forgettable characters and even worse combat.
the puzzles are for 9 year olds and the constand hand holding from inner monologues on what to do throws off. but i guess thats the modern audience for ya
A really fun follow-up to the previous entries in the series. The zombie kills are so fun and there's a lot of variety in weapons/modifications.
After 6 hours solo play in game I cannot fully recommend this game, at least not for fellow casuals who play solo. I loved all the previous Dead Island and DLCs but this is just...way off. It has nice graphics and levels, good voice acting and sound design. But the story arc and especially combat is oddly poor. If the combat is bad in a zombie game you dont have much left. Not only the mechanics of movement, hitting, blocking but also the strange enemy design choices. The zombies in general all feel overtuned, hit the player too hard and are basically damage sponges. The boss fights are worse, relying heavily on endlessly spawning adds which just feels lazy and overwrought. Finally the player weapons seem underpowered and the breakage rate punishing and tedious.
It is not a terrible game, very mid. What forces me to give a cautionary thumbs down is it seems specifically geared toward players who enjoy both Co-Op and a sharp difficulty spike very early, and those two things are not me. That may be for you, but just be warned.
The combat feedback feels off, as if I’m just swinging my weapon through empty air while the zombies die without any real sense of impact. The environment feels generic, like a cookie-cutter design typical of indie games made with Unreal Engine. Additionally, the dialogue between the main character and NPCs feels disjointed, more like random lines being thrown around than an actual conversation.
Starts fine, then is the same over and over.
It is so boring after the first couple of hours. Dead Island 1 was great, they changed the gameplay. Before there was a exploration, better story, pace.
Dead Island 2, kept very little from the version one. Sad, i'll never buy from this company again. The game is trash.
Pretty good game, when it decides to randomly become the worlds most bullshit difficulty on the other hand; not so much. Weapons feel fun and good to use, when your at low level. Something about being high level is so bothersome, things that were manageable turn into full blown boss fights based off of health. You almost have to rely on fire arms, and that's just a shit way to play based off of all perks and the way the game is played its self. Co-op would fix most of these problems with dmg output alone but on solo its just fucking ridiculous.
amazing zombie game, really good and a lot jump scare, sadly this game even not nominate as GOTY 2024. It should be on list in my opinion. The story and graphics are incredible
Very fun hack and slash zombie survival! I'm enjoying this but my only problem is constantly kicked out of co-op games. I recommend this if you like Left 4 Dead and playing with friends (pls be my friend and play this with me)
Boring and coridor battles. Useless skills, plot is simple and predictible
Worth at least one play through, Combat starts kinda clunky but as progression happens ends up being more fluid with a solid rock paper scissors style of effectiveness, characters are entertaining ,skill system is restrictive but allows for build flexibility id say 7/10 was a good time, I still need to try out the dlc but i think it could only raise my opinion overall.
TLDR 7/10 decent game
It started off good with the plane crash. But then it seems to take a nose dive real quick, and to be honest i am finding the game rather boring. If you are looking for a good undead game then this is not it.
Pretty cool game. Not sure if the characters are meant to be a joke of how LA celebs and influencers act or if it's self insert by devs. Either way game itself is pretty darn fun and if you find good weapons and buy good weapons there won't be alot of time were the zombies are bullet sponges. Story is a cliffhanger. Gore system is amazing and it's a fun slasher where the map is diveded into open sections which is nice tbh and is pretty old school.
While gameplay is great and the weapons and zombies bring back nostalgia from Dead Island 1 and Riptide, the main story "ends" with a clifhanger of incompetent proportions, it's a "wait THAT'S THE END OF THE STORY? Where'ss the rest of it, we're in the middle of the book at most" moment.
A great Los Angeles adventure and probably the only trip to LA I can afford.
In addition to featuring the most accurate 1:1 recreation of iconic LA landmarks I've ever seen in a video game, Dead Island 2 offers a limitless gore system unlike anything seen before. The game places a strong emphasis on its satisfying combat, although it may rely on it a little too much during some quests. While Dying Light revolutionizes the zombie genre with parkour, the more old-school slashing approach of Dead Island 2 complements the LA vibe perfectly. There's no shortage of goofy influencers or washed-up rockstars here. While some may criticize the lack of seriousness during a zombie apocalypse, I think it fits perfectly given the California setting.
To sum it up, the combination of various characters, a wide array of weapons, elemental damage, surprises, and iconic locations makes the game’s heavy reliance on combat enjoyable even deep into the experience. It’s a miracle that Dead Island 2 was released at all after such production strife—and even more impressive that it manages to bring something fresh to the table. This is truly heartwarming for any Dead Island 1 fan, myself included.
Abysmal and annoying characters, horrible dialogue, really stupid monologues EVERY TIME you kill a zombie or pick up an item or use an ability... Annoying and shitty card system to manage your skills and perks and uninteresting, lazy and lackluster leveling.
While this is certainly an entire decade late. It was a banger of a title with very little tedium.
Would certainly recommend this title. It makes for a great movie. It's also plays to some beautiful visuals.
Both world building DLC are worth but I will say I would not have enjoyed the game as much as I did without them.
Pros:
1. Hella fun with friends.
2. Good amount of content (80+ hours for 92% completion for me).
3. Somewhat simple but fun combat.
4. DLC SOLA and Haus are both worth the price. So much extra content and story for so cheap.
5. Neighborhood Watch is a fun and fresh welcome if you enjoy the core game.
Cons:
1. Combat and quests become somewhat repetitive which may lead to quick burnout.
2. Like Dead Island 1, the story ends on cliffhanger and even though the DLC expands on the lore you still never get a definitive ending/answer.
3. Most of the NPC's don't get fleshed out so it's hard to build a connection with them to even care.
4. Some achievements are bugged and sometimes won't unlock.
Overall it's worth playing and there is a ton of fun to be had if you like this type of game but I wouldn't pay more the $40-$50 for the game and DLC combined.
7/10
Starts out ok and fun, but after a while, the game just gets annoying. It's like every single zombie, even the lower level ones, becomes way too overpowered, takes way too many hits to put down, while your character goes down after like 3 hits. Even even shoving an electric Wolverine claw into into their brain may as well be a boop on the forehead. I never thought I'd say this, but this game makes more miss Dead Island 1. Plus, the map is less like an open world, and more like a maze of roads with constant locked doors.
Yeah, yeah, "get good" and all that shit. I actually like games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. This game just will just annoy you with how much effort it takes to kill 1 single zombie.
while dying light 1 is better than dead island 1 dead island 2 is better than dying light 2
Bad controls
Very linear
Dodge and block mechanic from another century
Weapons wear way too fast
If you want to run in a straight corridor with zombies smacking them and then repairing and smacking and repairing, all in a straight line go for it
Modding of weapons is from 2000's games not 2020's
Perk cards are limited and do not offer real customization/playstyle
A lot of fun. Its simple upfront with some hilarious weapon and character build combos that keep it fresh through at least 2-3 characters. Definitely best played with friends.
The story in Dead Island 2 isn’t anything groundbreaking, but the combat more than makes up for it. It's fast, gory and so satisfying especially when you’re smashing zombie skulls in with a sledgehammer.
Rating: 7.5/10
After years of waiting, Dead Island 2 has finally arrived – and it was absolutely worth it! This game is the perfect mix of brutal zombie slaying, dark humor, and a stunningly vibrant world.
Visuals:
The sun-soaked Los Angeles is crafted with incredible attention to detail. From the luxurious mansions of Bel-Air to the infested streets of Venice Beach, every location tells its own story.
Combat:
The first-person combat is dynamic and visceral. Whether you're smashing zombies with a baseball bat, experimenting with makeshift weapons, or creating fiery chaos with molotovs makes every hit feel impactful.
Cons:
After several hours, some side missions start to feel a bit similar.
I beat the game with every character on Xbox and then on PC. Game is very short but with high replay value. Killing zombies is fun so I come back now and again. Graphics are very good and the levels are very detailed. Amazing gore system. Multiplayer is usually fun.
Many improvements from the original 2 games. With the ability to edit your load out through out your game play, there is a good degree of repeatability. However slaying the same zombie over, and over, and more over again. More zombie diversity would make this game max out!
"Dead Island 2" offers a fun and gory zombie-slaying experience with a focus on melee combat.
The game's world is visually stunning, with beautiful tropical environments and a variety of locations to explore.
The game's soundtrack is atmospheric and helps to create a sense of tension and dread.
It's an amazing game with a better story then expected. Filled with side quests and fair challenges. The gore is just incredible and more games need it. Score 10/10
Loving the Original game, DI2 exceeds my expectations. Body physics are gruesome and engaging. Melee combat has been polished and highly customisable. More guns and early gunplay a major plus. Graphics are awesome. DLCs could be bigger but are very good
Love this game, graphics are amazing
Story and quests are fun and thrilling
A genuinely fun experience. Killing zombies is really fun and graphics is so beautiful.
Honestly so sad to see what you have done to the name of this game. I just don't understand the idea of focusing so much on graphic design that you almost completely abandon context on whatever story you called this. Voice lines are bad, idle animations are bad, gets noticeably repetitive within the first few levels. Trying to play with friends sucks since the most we can play before crashing is 15-60 minutes. When i go to work which is at sea on a ship for weeks at a time i got bored playing this game so fast i just ended up switching to left 4 dead because at least that game feels complete and fun. Lots of love missing from Dead Island 2, should have let the game rest for the titles name sake at Dead Island.
It's quite repetitive but fun enough gameplay wise, but man oh man, this whole political correctness and Igbt stuff that get's shoved down your throat throughout the game is just insane.
Look, i don't care if games feature gay characters or stuff like that, i really don't. Some of my favorite games and shows have gay main characters. But if a zombie game tries to force this and other similar things upon me throughout the entire game at every possible chance, then it's just absurd.
Every second couple in this game has to be homosexual. A bossfight against a zombie "bride" who's actually a buff man in a wedding dress. One of the main characters is a male Stripper. Oh, and the fact that your pronoun in this game is "they" instead of "him" or "her" is just the cherry on top. And don't tell me that the devs didn't do this on purpose, but because it's a coop game. Literally every other game until this point managed to do it properly.
All of this is way too forced in this game, and it speaks for itself when even the group of people the devs tried to appeal to think that it’s over the top. It really shows how the devs are following this modern trend in gaming to a extreme degree.
Keep in mind that i'm just halfway through the game, so i guess there's much more to come.
Sorry, but i'm trying to play a game here, and not get a lection in political correctness.
I know that this game is average at best to a lot of people but personally, I love it. I really enjoy going back to it from time to time for mindless fun. My only complaint was that I WISH it took itself a bit more seriously because the dialogue is so corny and it really feels like a game written 10 years ago (that's probably what happened considering how long it took for this game to come out but Idk) or even older but it didn't really stop me from liking the game!!
Easy to get into but beware of the cliffhanger ending at the end. The game is a much more polished experience than its predecessor, but falls a little short in terms of main story length. To be fair, it doesn't overstay its welcome, but those expecting a fully-fleshed out plot needs to watch out.
Nevertheless, a good weekend (or few weekends) distraction for a group of like-minded individuals. The action can get quite hectic at times, so don't lose your head!
Have really enjoyed playing through this with my boyfriend, the Haus and Sola are especially fun for us. The special infected cause slight freak outs at times and we've just enjoyed running around leveling up. Definitely recommend! 💚
We had a fun time playing this game. Slaughtering zombies while following a fun story. This game doesn't take itself too serious. Improving your equipment and character with different sets of cards fitting your play style. And even when you change your play style throughout the game, because you found the perfect weapon mid-game you can always switch your skill set and exchange the cards.
I also like that this is continuing the story of the first game and seeing some characters back here.
So grab your buddies and (try to) save LA from doom.
Game doesn't seem to boot without following weird method I came across reddit.
Boot up EPIC launcher, boot up game, open task manager, end task on a EPIC service and wait for game to start.
Finished story twice, just about to go into the 2 dlc's.
Main story is okay, graphics are pretty good. A good alternative to Dying Light 2.
Would recommend 9/10
Absolutely goated sequel!!!!!! I played Dead Island for untold hours on xbox 360 forevvvvvver ago. From teen to almost thirty, i kept picking it up.
NOW THIS SEQUEL!!!!! I love the new card system over the old level up perk system. It allows for some totally wild combinations, and absolutely op synergy! Bringing in an excellently designed weapons system, you will find the perfect weapon in form and function. The story is unbelievably goated. This is an untold deep breathe of relief as far as gaming goes. Satire without being the thing its satirizing.
Good zombie slayer game, not as good as the first one but still enjoyable.
