So I had gotten this back in 2023 for free via my GPU purchase through Epic Games.
The game was so fun, I purchased it on sale through Steam (mainly for achievements).
The graphics and gameplay are really great, and the gore system is visually rewarding.
10/10
Thats the best graphic i ever seen.
Gameplay is fine with hella nice performance too. I refund this , but fashoo gon buy it later
It was ok. Funny and irreverent. game play was meh. faint praise, i dont regret playing it.
The game is simply the best of its kind, the game is worth every penny, the best of the best.
Fun gameplay for the most part. Story is shit but it doesnt really matter.
Amazing graphics and physics, top notch zombies models and animations are the best ive ever seen in any games and they are scary ! really enjoy the game so far.
Yeah, it's a decent game, keep in mind it's only THREE, 3, III, players in multiplayer!
(We almost got 4 copies thinking it was the normally expected 4).
That being said, it's best played in single player so that you can play the game at your own pace, or maybe with a person, or peoples who have VERY similar playstyles and pacing as you so that you all can experience the game at the same rate rather than waiting 30 seconds all the time for a singular quest to progress, 30 seconds for everyone to move to the next zone, 30 seconds to hand in a side quest; all because "Everyone has to be here."
Dead Island 2 doesn't have the best melee combat out there, nor the best RPG systems, but! It's genuinely a competent game (and with zombies!), I think so far, a very strong 8/10 (maybe even 9/10). There's a silly layer of style laced over the entire game, but every now and then, the game whispers some sort of gut-punch of emotion through a few lines of dialogue that takes you by surprise.
A lot of people said the story wasn't anything to write home about, and I haven't won the game yet, but the writing is actually very good! It's sometimes 'cringe' in the way real life pop-culture is cringe. Have you ever seen an 'influencer' record B-roll in front of you? A Youtuber record a vlog? This game captures all of that (and more depending on who you pick as your player character).
One of the weaker points would be the combat. This isn't so much a problem the further you get into the game, and the stronger you become, but at the start it's so basic, so limiting, and quite frankly, boring. The blocking/dodging is a bit stiff, it works and is rather forgiving but still a step down from its step-brother Dying Light 2.
So far i'm enjoying it
combat is fun
story is decent
had a few laughs
Overall a fun time so far
well optimized good looking zombie game, no Epic login or anything required, trust enjoy the game.
Its a fun game, not perfect but a great play for any fans of zombies who don't take it too seriously
it is a fun action game for all thos action game players out there and very good story so far

single player is good, however multiplayer sucks, the servers are most of the time not online or when you look for a match it searches for less then 10 seconds and then creates a match by itself...
fun game to play co-op sidequest really do this game justice. the game pace is fast if u just run through area's but abit slow to have to run to bases to fast travel overall a solid 7/10
Que jogo fabuloso! Viciante!
very good game fun and grate story to play multi player and alone works for steam deck and mini pc
Absolute beast, loved the game every second, emphasis in Second as is quite short sadly, but helLA fun, i hope they continue the plot of the autophage, Dumbuster you are cooking youuu are cooking
If you like zombie bashing fun and don't mind a bit of a tongue-in-cheek story, this game is pretty fun. It has a bit of looter-shooter (or melee) elements, weapon crafting, and some pretty dynamic combat mechanics. It's really good for casual fun and coop fun with friends who like this sort of thing too. Would definitely recommend picking it up, if only on a sale, with all the DLCs as the music festival one is really fun.
Honestly not paying attention to the story, could not care less but the combat is incredibly satisfying. If you like nothing else but killing zombies and getting to see your weapons tear through their flesh then this game is for you. Don't love that when you look away from a zombie there is a good chance it will not be there when you turn back around, like come on you seriously can't keep zombies rendered in as I do a 180 a bit pathetic in today's age of video games.
super fun, graphics are amazing, really gets the feel and look of LA
Just your usual brainded pew pew zombies game. The downside in co-op mode is that there's no real penalty for dying, but it’s still a good time with friends.
It was ok. Or maybe a bit less then ok. It is very pretty, but the fights are pretty boring and long, very long. I ended up wemoding the cheat so I could at least enjoy the scenery, but really just wanted it to be over. I'll do a new game with the god mode cheat so I can really enjoy the scenery without the annoying and uninteresting fights.
Pretty good zombie smasher game, nice that it goes on sale for a pretty good discount these days. Enjoying so far.
The ending felt a bit abrupt, but the game was so good, a deserving sequel.
Super epic zombie butt kickin adventure!
So many things in this game were excellent. But as always its not even the game - its the fun had with friends.
Hilarious deaths - both enemies and ourselves.
Missions and NPCs were almost always excellent.
A few performance issues in the early days. but all seem to come good!
Wish we could forget this game and play it all again.
🌴🧟 Dead Island 2 is an absolute blast! 🔥
From the moment you crash-land into Hell-A, Dead Island 2 throws you into a beautifully gory, over-the-top zombie apocalypse with tons of personality. The combat feels punchy, creative, and incredibly satisfying—especially when you start unlocking new ways to turn the undead into mush. 😈
I’ve been playing as Carla, and she’s an absolute powerhouse—sarcastic, brave, and a perfect fit for the game's chaotic vibe. The visuals are gorgeous, the humor is dark and hilarious, and the world is dripping with detail (and blood).
If you're into zombie survival with style, this is a no-brainer (pun intended). 🧠💥

Highly recommend—especially with friends or if you just love some good ol’ zombie smashing!

Played the story on epic and now got on steam to play the dlcs. Great game, its very heavy but if your pc can handle it looks beautifull.. The story is great but the dlc stories are even better!
To me it's an outstanding game. great mix of fun, silly, and serious.
dont you just lov the sensation of decapatating undead corpses
If you played the original Dead Island, then you know what you're getting. The system has some improvements, but overall it's the same as before.
But the scenery and story is pretty interesting and keep you interested. The end though, is pretty obvious it's a hook for expansions. The main story in the core game left a lot of things open, which is kinda irritating.
The location change to LA is pretty cool, with some famous locations featured as you go through the story.
Definitely a fun game to play, especially when it's no discount. This iteration also comes with NewGame+, a very nice touch.
great game ill only hope they add replayable side quests in the third game. (;
It may have some polishing issues like it's predecessors, but the added style & solid evolution of its gameplay formula make Dead Island 2 a gory, engaging & simplistic trip to Hell-A against all odds.
For what the game is, it's alright, do I feel like I'd be missing out on a great game if I didn't play this? meh. The graphics are great, gore is gory, and the weapons are pretty cool, I'd get it if I wasn't a Dead Island vet and it's fun, definitely a game I would play when bored, wanted to kick some butt, or wanted some modicum of story-telling (spoiler wasn't the biggest fan), but........
As a Dead Island vet who waited the wait for this game since the 360 days, I was extremely disappointed. I definitely feel there should have been WAYYY more content such as weapons, bigger map sizes, more mods for weapons, just more. the story was there, but due to the fact that the map sizes are small and cramped, it forced the story to feel rushed and is rushed. unlike the 1st you can definitely see how low on content they made Dead Island 2, sure with the 1st and Riptide 90% of the quests were go retrieve this and don't die or go do that type missions, but it had the map size, plenty of easter eggs, more freedom to explore. It really all in all felt like a game that was supposed to be just a cash grab and nostalgia trip, but kinda succeeded in doing so.
After completing the game I give it a 5/10. The game isn't bad but it's not good either. It's just meh. It is a huge letdown compared to the first one. The story line is mediocre and that's if you can suffer through the ridiculously long dialogue scenes. The side quests are are meh and rarely worth the reward. The weapons and weapon upgrades are extremely unsatisfying. The card perk system just flat out sucks. The game is good enough to play if you are extremely bored. In all, the whole thing was just very disappointing.
Wow, this game's combat sucks. There's no weight to it, and zombies don't react to getting hit at all. The more I played, the more obvious the combat flaws became. That's especially bad considering the last installment had really great combat. It's sad and frustrating.
It was fun for a playthrough.
Melee combat is fun, gunplay is garbage and exploration is fine.
Leveling feels pointless, as everything scales with you. It is only necessary because zones have a minimum level, gating your exploration at the start.
The card system (skills and passives) is mostly irrelevant.
I'd say this game is a solid 7/10 thanks solely to it's combat and visual variety.
Controls are jank on keyboard/mouse
Level scaling with dmg feels really weird, some levels you 2 shot enemies, then the next level it seems like you need 6-7 hits.
The big stompy enemy is not fun to fight against
The throwing stars just randomly dont hit anything, the pipe bomb can either do 60dmg ot 1000, depending on how it feels.
Not a great experience
when i was looking for a first person zombie game, i didnt know if i should buy dead island 2 or dying light 2. in retrospect, Im very happy to have chosen dead island 2. i was pleasantly surprised by how fun the environment was and how unserious the characters and story seemed. if you're looking for a zombie game that doesnt take itself too seriously and prioritizes the "fun" aspect of a game over the horror element, buy this game. however its important to keep in mind that its not perfect. some bosses, especialy the DLC's will have you swearing for hours before you finally beat them. the checkpoints in this game are often misplaced or inexistant, the cinematics and character animations are often goofy and look unfinished and you WILL have to run past hordes of zombies simply to get back to your objectives after dying. that being said, these issues arent so problematic that they ruin the experience, i had a lot of fun. if you're looking for a more scary game with an intense atmosphere and realistic-er gameplay i recommend dying light 2, because you wont find it here. overall id give this game a very solid 7.8 out of ten
I was actually surprised at the quality of this game. I picked up the game on sale and It looked so generic that I went in with low hopes... but the gameplay is actually really solid and they give you a lot of options to find a playstyle that works for you. Resources are plentiful, so you can really experiment with new weapons and modifications. Runs well on my machine, looks great, and (knock on wood) so far no major bugs to speak of.
Grabbed the DLC because I'm having fun.
I preordered this game in Epic Games(big mistake), loving it since then. Def recommend it, this game deserves more attention.
dead island 2 is a perfect mix of gore, humor, and stunning visuals that keeps you hooked from start to finish. from the very beginning, the game grabs your attention with its silly/corny action, and it doesn't slow down. what really stands out is how it knows exactly what it wants to be, a fun zombie killing adventure that doesn't take itself too seriously.
let’s start with the graphics. dead island 2 looks absolutely gorgeous. the world of los angeles (hell-a) is brought to life with incredible detail from the sunny streets of hollywood to the abandoned corners of venice beach. the lighting is fantastic, the textures are sharp, and the character models are impressively lifelike. (minus the funny torso thing that happens when you crouch which was also in dead island 1) besides that, it’s clear that a lot of care went into making the environments and characters as immersive and visually stunning as possible. i was genuinely impressed by how well it ran on my 1070 on high settings. the game looked amazing and ran smoothly with very little frame drops. it’s not often that a visually demanding game that came out recently performs this well with my GPU.
as for the gameplay, it's pretty much the same as dead island 1 but with a lot more features. weapons range from crowbars to electrified machetes. combat feels heavy and satisfying with impactful hits. you can also craft and modify weapons with elemental effects (fire, electricity, poison) to suit your playstyle. the gore system is beautiful, every single slice is registered exactly where it hits while also paying attention to the force of which you swing your weapon. you can break bones to disable the zombies from walking and if you really want to, you can cut out all of their flesh and organs to the point they are a skeleton. it's genuinely the best gore system i have seen in a zombie game. when starting the game, you can choose from 6 unique slayers, each with a different skill tree. i picked dani, a tatted up irish woman who doesn't take anything seriously 99% of the time and is always cracking silly jokes. my friend seabanananers, who played the entire game with me, picked ryan, a male exotic dancer disguised as a firefighter. also, the humor in this game is what makes it truly stand out. the corny dialogue, stupid 2016 slang, braindead characters, and ridiculous scenarios keep the atmosphere light and fun. there's always something to keep you laughing. the balance of dark humor, cringe, and action keeps you wanting more and more.
if you’re looking for a game that’s both visually stunning and filled with laughs, dead island 2 delivers with fantastic graphics, smooth performance (even on a 1070), and a stupid sense of humor that makes every moment feel funny in a cringey way. this is genuinely one of the most enjoyable zombie games i’ve played in a while. refunding the trash that is dying light 2 to buy this game instead was a great choice.
this game is far too short to be worth 50$ (too short to be worth around 10 years of waiting too, but whatever), it took me and my brother 2 whole 5 hour long sessions to beat with *most* side quests done, would not recommend if youre looking for a longer game, would however recommend if youre looking for... a quick session of dismembering corpses, i guess. the combat, and graphical look is a HUUUUGEEE step-up from DI1, but not even that can save it from the short, and lacking story within this game. It just feels like everything happens for the sake of happening. almost like the game itself, in a way.
But you probably already have Left 4 Dead/L4D2, so just go play that. Or, better yet, buy Dead Island 1, and save ~30 bucks, and get this game, except it actually aged well. hell, even play Dying Light. Oh, you like the gore physics, and dismemberment physics in this game? Pfft, just go play Postal 2, or buy it for *10* dollars, if you haven't yet. As a matter of fact, you could probably buy *all* of those games for the full price of this game, given there's a steam sale.
Overall, this game just feels like a run-of-the-mill, zombie-survival-craft-questing with a Dead Island coat of paint splattered onto it, which is pretty unfortunate, given that a *lot* of people were waiting for this game for a very long time.
Well after having played Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide I was for sure slightly disappointed with the direction the game was going story wise. After the trailer from idk how many years ago I was hoping for a little more than I got but then again I did have quite some fun with the game. The main story is doable in about 6 hours, apart from that the sidequests were kinda annoying from time to time as you are constantly going in and out of places you already were a bunch of times, but certain items and things dont spawn unless you do stuff in a certain order. Also Zombies materializing straight in your face or phazing in and out of existence when looking away and right back in one direction threw me off more frequently than I wished. A couple of other things like selling materials to a vendor where you can't sell everything of a certain item all at once when I load up on 99 scrap, which eventually is just easily achievable, over and over again. All in all I did also have a lot of fun, slashing, dismembering, beating up, crushing, shooting, demolishing, exploding, [...] fucking up Zombies is what this game does best. There are quite a few weapons obtained by quests that make it really enjoyable to just walk through the sand of Venice Beach and just send them flying and offing off their heads. Also to note in comparison to the first game and the dark mysterious ambient that we got this is more like a parody of some kind as far as the dialogues go. It did get a chuckle out of me every so often. First character I maxed to lvl 40 was Dani. Out of the 6 choosable characters she has been my favorite by far, also bcs I felt like her personality and her irish accent fit the best to this more comedic way this game goes, and also because she made me feel like fucking Conor McGregor. Just standing in a pile of Zombies equipped with knuckle brasses with max attack speed and just punching like I just went Super Saiyan.
So, definitely worth the 25 bucks on sale
Great game for you and your boys to hop on. The Gore is something else and the story is great it really makes you very immersed.
As a long player of this series this game was really good. As someone who knows the medical information told in this game its spot on. I enjoyed this game the combat great, the side characters awesome, the world in which it is place fantastic, the main character and interactions they have with the world is right on the mark. People didn't like the ending, it doesn't matter really due to it felt like i was reading a book and there is a cliffhanger there. I liked that about this game, it felt like reading a book and playing a video game at the same time. If you don't like that might not be for you.
This is a great game. Gameplay is fun, visuals are juicy, story is somewhat decent with a bit of good jokes.
Highly recommend.
Good quality game. Was hoping it would be better than the first one but so far it hasn't beaten it. For dislikes... Id like a better custom characterization or more characters added possibly a base character that starts with equal stats that you can then level the way you want to the direction you want to go.
First thing to say, it is probably the most goriest game on steam. just that makes it mature but the thing that sets it apart is its f.l.e.s.h gore system that makes the zombies anatomy scarily acurate. another thing to note is the length of the game its short but has lots of replayablility.
Dead Island 2 is certainly not amazing, or even all that notable honestly. It's not very unique, the story is forgettable which results in making the best gameplay feature the 'skip cutscene button'; however, everything it sets out to do in gameplay and combat it accomplishes to an above average standard, to the point where on a sale of 50% or greater of the Ultimate Edition I can recommend Dead Island 2. It's the kind of game you can turn your brain off to, and just enjoy without much thought having to be put into it. The character upgrades, and weapon upgrades are all extremely simple in scope, but undeniably effective in making the game feel dynamic and replayable. The melee weapons all have a satisfying weight to them that is proportionate to how one would expect a heavy sword, or light knife might swing. The weight is sold in full by the incredible FLESH dismemberment system, which truly is the highlight of the game's combat honestly, and it's defining standout trait. As with most games, the co-op greatly enhances the experience. However if you've started a playthrough, and intend to have a friend who just purchased after the start date of your playthrough join you, in the case that you have progressed too far they will be barred from joining your lobby. The optimization for the PC is fairly well done. I rarely see framerates below 120, at 1440p using the standard "high" settings preset with no upscaling. The game also ran fairly well on my Steam Deck LCD when I had tried it there, anywhere from 40-60fps on the "medium" preset, using no upscaling.
Overall, I would rate Dead Island 2 at a 7/10
I liked the first one, not this one! Completely linear. Your are an errand boy. Don't want to do it, tough shit. Zombies pop out of no where, you clear an area, walk a short distance and go back, more zombies. Just logged in, bam, zombie in your face. They keep introducing you to new kinds of zombies but all you can get is melee weapons, forcing you to face them head on.
Crafting is a joke. You get minor tweaks after collecting everything you see.
No story line, go from A to B because we told you to and good luck not dying to get there. You cant interact with the world and buildings unless it was intended, when they intended it.
Bought it on sale and i wanted my money back after 8 hours, when i finally figured out what it was going to be like. Save your money, get a better game.
