An OK game, only worth it if it is on sale. The single player is quite short and is more like a series of battles rather than a flowing story. There are two campaigns that the game alternates between: US marines in the Pacific and Soviets on the advance to Berlin. As with some of the previous Call of Duty games, a few of the levels owe a lot of their plot to memorable scenes from war films (the Soviet campaign starts with the fountain sniping scene taken from Enemy at the Gates, for example) The Soviet campaign felt more disjointed then the Pacific campaign, as the Soviet campaign jumps quite heavily through the timeline. The Zombie defence game adds some more game time, especially if played with others - although it can be played alone. I didn't bother with multiplayer, so I've no idea if it is any good. The single player can be completed in under 8 hours though.
Gritty , fun campaign w/ lots of enemies.
The start of cod zombies as well as modded zombies mixed with a amazing campaign and very fun multiplayer, do yourself a flavour and play this game at least once
Multiplayer - meh
Campaign - Great!
Zombies - Fantastic; great alternative to BO3 Zombies, faster for lower end PCs and with Plutonium runs like butter!
The first CoD game I ever played and personally, its probably my favorite CoD game. Its great to play campaign, solo, or with friends. Def approve
Very fun. I like the bolt-action rifles the most, especially the Mosin Nagant.
I played on the hardest difficulty, I played mouse and keyboard, I played solo, and I broke at least one mouse.
Fun for everyone. 10/10.
fucking badass espesially with mods on zombies. head to cod repo for custom zombie maps
The best Call Of Duty ever released.
Black Ops and WAW were my childhood games. Coming back and playing on the 360 servers in 2025 is just as fun as 16 years ago.
Got this to play the original zombie maps and it did not disappoint. So many good memories!
This game was basically my life back in 2008 over on the Xbox 360. So many hours spent gaming with friends killing zombies and each other
The campaign was brilliant, too. Planting that flag on top of the reichstag at the end of a veteran playthough was the crowning achievement of my life back then
classic game. campaign and zombies still holds up. wish i could play this game for the first time again. 5/5
Shit pricing and Security issues aside, honestly a REALLY fun game in terms of MP and it's Campaign (Oh and highrounding zombies wink.), would, recommend people to only pick this up for sale with the bo2 deluxe bundle (you get bo2 and this).
Please do, use Plutonium to play this, though.
Just finished the game and it is really good recommended to play this game it is about 7 to 10 hours long but I completed in 5 hours (told by the time) and I have lots to do but it is really fun time playing this game and lots of really awesome moments and lots of time in the multiplayer and campaign.
7/10
Loved the story and love the zombies, especially the capability for modding.
A classic masterpiece, gave me a slight culture shock due to how brutal and uncensored this game is compared to any recent games/cod
I used to play this when i was around 6 y.o
glad i'm able to play it again with my bf
Great game but unfortunately cant recommend because there are security risks associated with all Call of Duty games!
Hacking
RCE exploits
Serious stuff.. shouldnt be sold on steam. And i hate saying that, but its true.
Nice game, a bit old but gameplay is very fun and the campaign is very well done
Best Call of Duty hands down. Everything about this game is S tier. Single Player. Multiplayer and then the surprise that comes after beating the campaign.
Best call of duty there is by far! The realism in this game is anything beyond in terms of a war feeling.
Lacks achievements, lacks cloud saves, lacks polishing (terrible controls/camera movement), not many Zombie maps (thus why BO2 is better) and it crashes on me sometimes, forcing me to shut down my computer. Just not a good game nowadays, but was before.
10/10 A+
This is a solo review. No multiplayer just solo campaign and zombies.
Campaign difficulty: Hardened and collected all 13 death cards.
One of the best Call of Duty's stories every made. Just shows you the true horrors of war. My only complainant is on hard the AI would throw 3 to 4 grenades at once and the grenades spam is none stop!
Zombies started here and all 4 maps are amazing. Even with the first map not having any perks and the first 3 not having pack-a-punch they are still fun and can keep you entertain for hours.
World at War is currently $19.99 with all DLC but I still would wait for a sale that makes it $9.99 or under.
Great game from the Golden Era of the Call of Duty Franchise. A good place to start campaign wise.
this games really fun and good on the first time playing. But after that for me atleast it isnt really that fun to play after u played it the 1st time
Another great game In the franchise and imo the best WW2 cod game In the whole series. Just like the last game (cod 4: mw1) the game here has lots of great and fun gameplay with great guns even if the hit registration can be a little questionable at certain times, awesome characters, awesome missions, etc; multiplayer can fun to hop in from time to time, and of course i can't forgot about the first introduction of zombies and is again imo one of the best zombies to play. Overall a great game.
story mode fun
Very fun, Classic Cod game, And introduced the zombies mode
still the best of the ww2 as far as campaign goes. I wish more games had Taiko drum music. To get it to run I needed to toggle both low res mode and compatibility mode. Meaning set it one way, start game -will crash. Go back into windows compatibility change setting again. Click when game menu sound starts. nivida takes over resets game to hirez like normal. Next time you start the game, it will crash at start. re do the compatibility setting. 2x.
What I miss from the old cod games. This delivers. More traditional, straightforward multiplayer. Still players and servers. Co-op campaign. Buy this if in sale.
It's 2025 and this is still one of my favorite multiplayer games of all time if there are people playing. During the days and particular nights there are people playing along with bots. I think a new wave of fans can be cultured pretty easily if the community who still does play would be more inclusive. There is 100% a reason that this game kicked off Nazi Zombies. This is probably the only game that has real names and models of guns. You actually learn about each of these from the game since developers tried to capture the character of each weapon as best as they could. This is something that can't be done today since there's licenses to use brand names and models. There are some servers with bots and waves of people in and out from time to time. Stick around and find out why this game was so popular. My favorite things are the real weapons with real sounds that were recorded for each. The physics feel just right to me. World War II is the coolest war to model a game after. The weapons aren't too modern and the sound of headshots turn me on. For me it's really all about the feel and this game had the best in my opinion to this day. Gamers these days don't get lost in feel and the illusion a game tries to put on people. Some of what I like can be overlooked. Wait until you get back at someone with a little bit of unlocked martyrdom.
Okay so here's the thing about this game right? And it's what surprised me the most when I replayed again.
It is genuinely one of the best FPS games I've ever played to this date. Second to none, I'd say. I was initially surprised when I realized this fact because it's Call of Duty! You know? The most MAINSTREAM FPS franchise to ever exist? How did Activision/Treyarch manage to make something so special out of THE FPS. Like the first thing you think of when you hear the word "FPS". I cannot fathom what they were thinking when planning this game out. Actual geniuses.
t. played over 60-70 FPS games (can't remember) in his entire life.
This game is incredibly fun. I have just finished the story mode and it had some of the best levels I have ever played. This is better than some modern games smh 😭. I will probably replay some of the levels and the zombie mode is also pretty nice. The mechanics are good and the graphics are ok. Highly recommend 👍.
As much as i love this game in particular
i do not recommend buying it under the greedy corpos holding this beloved IP
i still remember when i bought it for like under $5 in your typical steam sale from not too long ago but before i noticed it, they had the audacity to jack up their prices to what you see now
20 BUCKS!??!? FOR A 16 YEAR OLD GAME
what a shameless desecration, WAW is not only affected, they're doing this for their older titles too!
in conclusion.... don't buy it, get it "by other means" but certainly do not feed in to these souless husk of an industry
you deserve better than this
Peak game. It does't try and hide the horrors of war, and instead makes it very clear. The many moral dilemmas remind you of how war an alter a person's perception of what is good and what is evil. Also, very nice to see the first iteration of the zombies mode.
this game is brutal but great one of the best call of dutys out there
the 5.6 hours aren't accurate at all, that is just on pc. WaW remains the best WW2 shooter in my mind and is nightmarish campaign still stands up and has an emotional impact even today. This is also the birthplace of Nazi Zombies and is so fun!
very great so much memories:) best with mods
i remember destroying lobbies on the 360 at the time when this game was released. i beat the campaign on Nintendo DS but never completed Console/PC campaign. i also had a lot of fun playing Nazi Zombies (first zombies game i have played) i'd give it a go again if i have the time, would recommend!!!
Although an experienced FPS gamer can beat this in about 4.5 ~ 5 hours, it is still a very good campaign. A little jankness with hitboxes, but thats to be expected of such an old game. Id wait for a sale because 20 bucks for a 20 year old game isnt nice, but I would say its worth it regardless.
Overall, 8/10. Will replay once a year.
Campaign is probably the best in all of CoD, also I played this game on the 360 just bought it for old times sake and to play it with a friend, beat the campaign 3 times in the span of 20 hours, once on regular, once on veteran, and once with a friend whom I gifted the game to. 10/10 would play forever.
I played the campaign on veteran, took me 11 hours. Story is decent if you dont mind the changing persepective every couple missions. I personally liked the Russia storyline more because Reznov is a more engaging character. The VC missions are a little harder, but I was a fan of the 2 vehicle missions. My one gripe is that the grenades on veteran are kinda lethal. You'll have 3-7 grenades chucked at you repetively for trying to heal prone in a position. Basically if you stay still more than 4 seconds on veteran, expect a grenade. For its time, fantastic game, I'd say in terms of enjoyment, its on par with modern CODs, (not super fun but also if you get into it gets better). Definetley a little partial due to nostaglia. The kill time is really fast on veteran, so just watch those angles if you want to attempt a run.
A classic of the Call of Duty series, and my personal favorite! The tone of the game is perfect for the setting, the grim and dark graphics/textures immerse you into the battles. You feel a sense of real war in this one as you carve your way into the hearts of the enemy. Each mission feels the perfect length while also providing enough challenge to keep you playing for hours. The Zombies mode was introduced here and is done spectacularly. The gorey feel and the dark atmosphere makes it an eerie and fun mode to play! You also must experience the Co-Op campaign with a friend as it is one of the best modes added to a CoD game. 100% worth the purchase, but would say get it on sale as not all features work as intended anymore.
This was back when COD actually took its self seriously and there was no glowing cat girl skins and lootboxes and its the best COD in the series and one of the best games i have ever played.
its gritty,
its dark,
its violent but uses the violence to show the real nature of war,
it uses real war footage in cutscenes,
its amazing,
URAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
this game if not is one of the best call of duty games ever made , the campaign , the eerie vibe of the war is super unsettling , the online was amazing too sadly not has active has before i still play and have fun on campaign and even the best modes in cod history , Zombies , the hardcore difficulty of waw zombies is unbeatable , the game in itself is a 10-10 but with zombies makes this game a cult classic cod game and game in general.!
10/10
Got the game for the Zombies mostly (so i will comment on that topic)
Honestly if you are looking on a introduction to zombies mode this is the game for you. Hundreds of Custom Maps for you to play besides the basic in-game ones, with really easy installation. The game at its core is quite "light" so even people with low-end PCs can run it smoothly.
Honestly for its price it will give you countless hours of gaming so i would say a really worth purchase option.
The only downside i can think of is if you are not a Zombies fan, the campaign isn't something out of the ordinary (at least for me ofc)
Other than that i would say a hard 9/10 as a game, and what it provides you with.
Classic CoD that never seems to get old. Great Campaign, Multiplayer back in the day was top notch. This was the most brutal, violent, gritty Call of Duty they ever made and will go down as easily one of the best they ever made.
Still remains as the last great call of duty ever made, I love this game to my very core seeing as it was my first call of duty game back in 2010 and man it was a shocker growing up.
From the unique brutal campaign to the horrifying zombies and it's kick-ass multiplayer which if you didn't want to play online there is a mod called bot warfare that allows you to sim a online game with leveling and unlocks while using smart bots.
Overall I give it a solid 10/10, easily the best game in the franchise and the last one too.
Amazing story and multiplayer is amazing but you need to download plutonium to play it
It doesn't have multiplayers due to server shutting down.
Very good campaign if you wanna learn more about WW2.
Old Game but very amazing, very good for PCs that are a little old
7.5/10
Great game, i see why many people love it the story is amazing but im noticing a trend going up the games, on veteran enemy's throw a lot more grenades that it can get to the point where half the map is full of them it is annoying to deal with but overall its a good game.
