I played the campaign on veteran, took me 11 hours. Story is decent if you dont mind the changing persepective every couple missions. I personally liked the Russia storyline more because Reznov is a more engaging character. The VC missions are a little harder, but I was a fan of the 2 vehicle missions. My one gripe is that the grenades on veteran are kinda lethal. You'll have 3-7 grenades chucked at you repetively for trying to heal prone in a position. Basically if you stay still more than 4 seconds on veteran, expect a grenade. For its time, fantastic game, I'd say in terms of enjoyment, its on par with modern CODs, (not super fun but also if you get into it gets better). Definetley a little partial due to nostaglia. The kill time is really fast on veteran, so just watch those angles if you want to attempt a run.
A classic of the Call of Duty series, and my personal favorite! The tone of the game is perfect for the setting, the grim and dark graphics/textures immerse you into the battles. You feel a sense of real war in this one as you carve your way into the hearts of the enemy. Each mission feels the perfect length while also providing enough challenge to keep you playing for hours. The Zombies mode was introduced here and is done spectacularly. The gorey feel and the dark atmosphere makes it an eerie and fun mode to play! You also must experience the Co-Op campaign with a friend as it is one of the best modes added to a CoD game. 100% worth the purchase, but would say get it on sale as not all features work as intended anymore.
This was back when COD actually took its self seriously and there was no glowing cat girl skins and lootboxes and its the best COD in the series and one of the best games i have ever played.
its gritty,
its dark,
its violent but uses the violence to show the real nature of war,
it uses real war footage in cutscenes,
its amazing,
URAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
this game if not is one of the best call of duty games ever made , the campaign , the eerie vibe of the war is super unsettling , the online was amazing too sadly not has active has before i still play and have fun on campaign and even the best modes in cod history , Zombies , the hardcore difficulty of waw zombies is unbeatable , the game in itself is a 10-10 but with zombies makes this game a cult classic cod game and game in general.!
10/10
Got the game for the Zombies mostly (so i will comment on that topic)
Honestly if you are looking on a introduction to zombies mode this is the game for you. Hundreds of Custom Maps for you to play besides the basic in-game ones, with really easy installation. The game at its core is quite "light" so even people with low-end PCs can run it smoothly.
Honestly for its price it will give you countless hours of gaming so i would say a really worth purchase option.
The only downside i can think of is if you are not a Zombies fan, the campaign isn't something out of the ordinary (at least for me ofc)
Other than that i would say a hard 9/10 as a game, and what it provides you with.
Classic CoD that never seems to get old. Great Campaign, Multiplayer back in the day was top notch. This was the most brutal, violent, gritty Call of Duty they ever made and will go down as easily one of the best they ever made.
Still remains as the last great call of duty ever made, I love this game to my very core seeing as it was my first call of duty game back in 2010 and man it was a shocker growing up.
From the unique brutal campaign to the horrifying zombies and it's kick-ass multiplayer which if you didn't want to play online there is a mod called bot warfare that allows you to sim a online game with leveling and unlocks while using smart bots.
Overall I give it a solid 10/10, easily the best game in the franchise and the last one too.
Amazing story and multiplayer is amazing but you need to download plutonium to play it
It doesn't have multiplayers due to server shutting down.
Very good campaign if you wanna learn more about WW2.
Old Game but very amazing, very good for PCs that are a little old
7.5/10
Great game, i see why many people love it the story is amazing but im noticing a trend going up the games, on veteran enemy's throw a lot more grenades that it can get to the point where half the map is full of them it is annoying to deal with but overall its a good game.
A fun, but difficult game!
So, I played this game on my Steam Deck, and I must say, this game really isn't suited for it. I couldn't beat it even on Regular with the controls. It's amazing how much better I was when I tested it with a Controller+Mouse. I was playing a lot better and having more fun.
Regardless, this was my first Call of Duty game in about 8 years. I enjoyed the campaign a lot, even if it was difficult to get through. I had some bugs however while playing the game, where I had to repeat a level because it softlocked during a mission, but aside from that, it was clean throughout. I had the most fun playing as the Russian, and it was really cool putting up the flag at the end of the story.
In terms of gameplay, it's fun on the lower difficulties, but the grenades can be brutal. Don't expect to be able to beat this game on Veteran. I tried it one of the later levels, and there was a time where 7 grenade indicators were on my screen.
Zombies is fun as well, even if it is not the reason I bought the game. This game has a large amount of fan-made maps for COD Zombies, so if you are interested in that, you should probably give this one a go.
I didn't play any of the multiplayer because it doesn't interest me. So I can't give an opinion on it.
Overall, if you just want to shut your brain off and shoot some guns, this game is for you. Just don't pay full price for it. The game is already too expensive for something that came out 17 years ago.
An amazing campaign with a stellar performance by Gary Oldman, the birth of CoD zombies, solid gunplay all around and one of the best (if not the best) games in the series.
Bought this solely for OG Der Riese and Nacht, but it was overall a very pleasant trip down memory lane.
Still a great game, even in the big 25.
World at War and Black Ops 1 are the best CoD games ever. I wish both would get remasters to update them, but even as is, both are worthy of playing in 2025.
tried to play but the main menu music kept making me piss myself. why is the game scary before it even starts man
Theres not much i can say that has not been said already. Call of duty world at war has one of the best if not the best world war first person shooter campaigns out there, through its brutal gameplay and use of real war footage you as the player get a glipse on the true reality of war that newer call of duty games are too afraid to portray. It really isnt made for the faint of heart and is undoubtedly the most dark and gruesome game in the ww2 call of duty installments. That being said, the zombies follows the same steps carrying on the gritty atmosphere and delivering a basic yet replayable experience, the fact the steam copy of world at war gives you all the zombie dlc maps for free is nice as it means the zombie verterans dont have to go ahead and spend another fortune on dlc packs that cater to the completely dead multiplayer just to get their favourite map (calling you out Bo2)
-Love you Viktor Reznov, you are one of the only likable commies out there
-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOORAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Probably my favorite world war two game out there. It doesn't have a very in-depth story, but I absolutely love it's brutal and realistic depiction of the war. The soundtrack compliments it very well and there are very many tense moments in the game. It does show its age though, and I think it should be cheaper (though I got it during a sale).
classic cod everything ab it is pretty good minus pre patched mp40 but game is fun also zombies woooo
Playing modded zombies for the first time was a blast back then. I don't know if this scene is still active but casual multiplayer has gotten pretty unplayable, like it's usually the case with Call of Duty games after a couple of years. The campaign is still pretty fun and the atmosphere reminds me a lot of the first Black Ops which in my opinion is a masterpiece. The gameplay definitely feels a little dated though. Zombies is still fun but I guess there are better alternatives nowadays. (8.7/10)
The campaign is a masterpiece. I didn't play the multiplayer but I keep coming back to the campaign every 2 years since it came out. You play as the Americans in Japan and as the Russians that take the battle from there homeland too the third reich.
This games has balls on how it depicts war. The Japanese just banzai your ass and you will never forget "URAAA", the cry of victory from the russians. The game really takes you to a gritty place, a place that you'll wish never to experience in real life. The game is full of little details and Reznov is just a beast. Take your time to let the game sink in and take your time while your playing, to look around. The missions are so cool and as the story progresses, the personalities and behaviour of the soldiers change also. They don't make them like this anymore.
Also back in the day when you finished the campaign for the first time and you unlocked the new zombie mode for the first time was just insane. A new mode that kept the series going strong until now. This game is a masterpiece in all aspects and if you didn't play it, than do it!
Great Gameplay really hard even for someone who has completed other cods on veteran this was 10x harder than the rest but great game overall great story and characters would recommend for others to buy if they are up to the challenge
Call of Duty World at war is one of the best Call of Duty game of the series. A straight forward videogame without any micro transactions, complicated kill streak, less customisation, no f****ng people jumping very high, flying around or diving and punch you in the face from nowhere. It was a game based on real skills. Unfortunately, they decided to remove split screen on PC and playing online on old Call of Duty is not safe anymore due to HACKERS GETTING ACCESS TO YOUR INFORMATION EASILY. This is one of my favourite games and it's a shame I wont be able to enjoy it. I'm very disappointed because I waited so long to buy it on PC and I was excited to play zombie split screen but sadly I had to request a refund. I guess I will have to keep the good memories back in 2008 in my head.
its good, multiplayer stats r a bit fcked but most servers have xp multiplayers anyways so its mostly fine you should have everything equipped on most servers if youve done all the challenges n sht
Only good for campaign and it's zombies, co op is broken, no multiplayer,
its a very good game for its time honestly very fun and the zombies mode is rly good its campaign is very interesting and fun to play
Game is really cool. The graphics are good if you change them, The darkness that it shows of WW2 is cool. And the zombies is aight. Pretty good game.
I like this game. It's nostalgic and reminds me of when I used to play CoD WaW Final Fronts on PS2. Not only that but the good old Zombies is pretty fun to play too. Would definitely recommend this game. The performance is good and the story will keep you on your toes and keep you guessing in which direction Fire will be coming from. No regrets.
Amazing game for its time. Back when Acrivision and its umbrella of studios had balls, the only shame is that it’s not got controller support so I won’t be experiencing this game on PC anytime soon.
Why no achievements on pc? Either way I just replayed the campaign and It is still one of the best single player experiences I have had. I love how it goes through the different battles and wars between the two main characters. Similar to layout of first couple games but it has it's own unique story that makes it so much more interesting. The M rating was definitely needed for these games too. Not to mention the zombies which started my favorite side mode of all time which turned into my favorite game mode period. Multiplayer was great too obviously it's just dead now.
ive waited so long for this to go on sale so i could relive the campaign experience. i finally get it, 5 minutes into the first mission i encounter a bug that means i cannot go further. the truck that you stab the barrel wont move! i cant even express how disappointed i am.
Easily one of the best call of duty games. Back when the campaigns were good and Nazi Zombies were born.
It runs, it costs too much for how old it is, and no one else plays it. At least the DLC comes with the base game, and Co-Op still works for the most part.
And you can mod it pretty easy.. its not so bad.
Classic COD with a dark and gritty atmosphere, Oohrah and Semper Fi Marines!!
I have played extensively on the plutonium launcher, and I find that this game is the best in the franchise. BO6 dont got shit on this
¶ Treyarch took a bold step with this one, crafting what’s arguably the most terrifying WWII game ever made. It’s drenched in the raw, unrelenting atmosphere of fear, death, and hopelessness. From the moment you land in the blood-soaked jungles of the Pacific or crawl through the ruins of Stalingrad, you know this isn’t your typical hero’s journey—it’s war at its ugliest.
¶ The visual tone of the game is a stroke of genius. The gray filter over everything creates a sense of bleakness, making the vibrant splashes of red blood all the more jarring. It’s not just a visual choice—it’s a statement. Here, war isn't glamorous or thrilling; rather, it's a nightmare, and every gunshot, scream, and eerie moment makes you realize that.
¶ The two campaigns—American and Soviet—are both unforgettable, each offering a unique perspective on WWII. The American campaign drops you into the hellish jungles of the Pacific Theater, where every shadow might hide a Japanese banzai charge. Crawling through the underbrush with flamethrowers roaring and enemies charging at you is equal parts exhilarating and horrifying. Then there’s the Soviet campaign, where you march from the smoldering rubble of Stalingrad to the heart of Berlin. It’s a grim revenge tour, and Reznov’s speeches are pure fire—they make you feel the fury and desperation of a soldier who’s seen too much.
¶ This title really separates men from boys on a veteran difficulty, especially with those grenades constantly being thrown at you.
And then there’s the Zombies mode. Man, I’ve spent hours in Zombies. It’s the perfect blend of tension and chaos, with each round becoming more frantic as you scramble for ammo, repair barricades, and try not to get overwhelmed. It still gives me the creeps like in 2008 after the main campaign, especially on Verrückt.
¶ Multiplayer is solid, it sticks closely to the formula laid out by Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The working formula. The progression system, perks, and killstreaks are all here, and while it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it doesn’t need to. The maps are well-designed, and the gritty WWII setting adds a fresh flavor to the familiar mechanics. My favorite mode? War. There’s something so satisfying about the push-and-pull dynamic, fighting tooth and nail to capture objectives while chaos erupts all around you.
¶ The soundtrack is my personally best in the whole series. Composed by the talented Sean Murray, the music is a blend of chilling orchestral pieces and aggressive, metal segments that crank up the tension in every moment. Those metallic riffs hit like a sledgehammer during intense combat sequences, making the firefights feel even more chaotic and visceral. The game's overall atmosphere of dread and sorrow is further enhanced by the spooky, atmospheric music played during quieter scenes.
¶ WaW is raw, unflinching, and unapologetic in its depiction of war. Devs took the WWII genre and turned it into something darker, something heavier, something unforgettable. Whether you’re a fan of single-player campaigns, Zombies, or multiplayer mayhem, this game has something for everyone. For me, it’s more than just a classic—it’s a reminder of why I fell in love with shooters in the first place. If you haven’t played it yet, you’re seriously missing out.
The precursor to Black Ops 1, and in many ways better than than the aforementioned successor. Although the stories of CoD games have never seemed worthy of high praise, especially given that the majority of them feel like pro-U.S. war propaganda along with the vast number of plagiarisms seen in the writing and directing of Treyarch's entries, (though not legally plagiarism, I consider the plethora of examples egregious enough to warrant the description) this story couldn't really escape the same fate. It's a typical WW2 story, reminiscent of many war films from the 80s and 90s but with a far less fleshed out story and one-dimensional characters. It sounds like I hate this game, but I don't. Let me finish the point. The great film director, Robert Bresson, had something interesting to say, and I think his words perfectly describe my opinions of this game: "I'd rather people feel a film before understanding it." Now, playing with the words and semantics of this quote, I'd like to rearrange it to fit my case with World at War. I don't enjoy the writing of World at War. In fact, I find it to be devoid of much substance, acting more as a segue into the next obective, cutscene, level, etc. However, I love the tone, atmosphere, soundtrack, and core gameplay of World at War. And herein lies the unique beauty that video games have as a medium of art. I think, more than any other medium, video games can, and often do get away with lacking in one critical aspect by overcompensating with another. Hell, the entirety of the CoD Zombie franchise perfectly encapsulates this notion. Very seldom do players even care to understand the unorganized, trope-filled mess that is the zombies storyline. No, the vast majority of players are booting up the mode to do two things: kill zombies and see that round number go up. The same applies to this campaign. I've replayed it a good number of times, and each replay has been characterized by the same awe I feel when coming across one of the many grandiose set pieces scattered in every level, or the satisfaction that comes from engaging with the fluid movement and gunplay that you expect with most CoD games.
The game itself is decent but the best part is Zombies the entire mode is okay for newbies to zombies to pick up and a decent challenge for the Veterans
Great game, awesome graphics and brutal story. Only bad thing is low number of missions in SP mode.
A COD classic, definitely deserves more approval, co-op campaign doesn't work unfortunately.
Return to a time of prime FPS culture and forget the microtransactions for just this moment. This was peak. This was pure and unfiltered primal gameplay. A very antiquated and authentic experiences for a solid game that has stood the test of time. Came back to redownload as I type this. I also miss playing the zombies mode on this. (The veteran mode grenade moshpit is very real)
How far this franchise has fallen with the modern day bloat and cosmetic flair. Would love if they did a remake of this 1 to 1 just better graphics with no additions :) one can dream.
its fun pretty retro and high quality for its age and the campaign is long and fun
one of if not the greatest WW2 game to exist, the campein is raw and challenging, the multiplayer is alot more balanced than most call of duty games, And the zombies is the best thing to ever happen to the call of duty franchise.
Back when Call of Duty actually took itself seriously and had amazing gameplay and equally amazing things to do. If you want to get a feel for classics, then this is the game for you. If multiplayer isn't your thing, or you don't have friends to play with, there's plenty to do in single-player. But, from experience, the game is so much better when you've got friends to play with and time to mow each other down, the enemy down in the co-op campaign, or zombies in the zombies mode.
great campaign got ptsd from the japanese screaming bansi but i got to burned them in the treanchs but in reality this game is fantastic from the muisc to the missons 100/10 would recommend
World at War shows how badly a game can age in 15+ years with the PC port having a lot of glaring issues including a pretty crap tank mission with awful keyboard and mouse controls that took me probably an hour just to complete on regular difficulty because of being ass blasted by 5 tanks at the same time. Constant grenade spam that is probably the worst in the series, the banzai attacking enemies having a QTE that gives you literally a second to respond to so you don't die and respawn, with a terrible checkpoint system that'll send you back to the start of a gunfight no matter how far into the gunfight you're in, and the game will have huge waves of enemies spawn in front of you which is pretty much an instant kill that seemed to happen a lot.
Although I've been pretty harsh in this review at the end of the day it's still a fun, run and gun Call of Duty with an average Call of Duty story that kind of ties in with Black Ops 1 (you don't need to play world at war to understand black ops 1), mostly pretty cool missions and a somewhat satisfying ending. That's why I still recommend WAW but bare in mind you will get frustrated at times in the game because no matter how good you are in FPS games, you are going to die especially in higher difficulties.
I really enjoyed playing this game when i first played it on my xbox 360 ages ago and when i replayed it it was just as good obviously the graphics are not the best but the game is quite old. enjoyed it.
What the fuck are merchant ships doing with that much firepower?!
That must be some pretty important cargo they’re carrying.
TAKE OUT THOSE FUCKING PT BOATS!!
One of the greatest Call of Duty games of all time. This game tells a story that must never be forgotten and does it in a realistic and respectful way. This is Call Of Duty, not Warzone with extra steps.
