Amazing game. I first played this game at launch and it was a game I'd play over and over again. If you are looking into some gritty shooting games, I'd recommend this game as it has aged wonderfully.

It definitely has one of the best campaigns in the CoD franchise. The zombies mode is also great, and I like the weapons in BO1 more than the ones you have in BO3. But if you only play CoD for zombies, then you should probably get BO3 because it has more maps, perks, and features. I recommend buying this game on sale though, like any other CoD game.

Come on guys its black-ops, need i say more, this is the version that's meant to be played over and over again alone or co-op or pvp if you desire, online community is slimming down with a hopeful steady player base of real gamers who dont like any of the garbage that activision has in there bag of spoiled treats with its newly released ground up fresh call of duty deliverance that is being boasted over the community of terribly uninformed cheating players that ruined all new cod titles, so please dont remaster this, just get these classic cod communities back up and running with freshened and more strenghthen goals and replayability

Cold War is a soft reboot so everything in the terminal, half of the Black Ops 2 and the PS Vita's Black Ops Declassified are no longer canon to MW2019/Warzone timeline.

Honestly the best call of duty ever, insane crazy story,
very fun zombies, one of, IF not the best multiplayer's for call of duty. The economy/with the contracts is fun, no useless over the top grinding, unlock the weapon, buy any accessory/setup you want and just get going.

Its also the best zombies ever imo, before it got convoluted with weird stuff and over the top EE

One of the greatest campaigns along with one of the greatest zombies hands down, the zombies maps are manageable but also all the maps are fun to play, bored of zombies? challenge yourself, try to get a higher round than your best, take on one of the many community challenges such as no power, one box, and one wall weapon.

Campaign is really cool and the story line of the zombies mode is very interesting. I don't play a lot of multiplayer in cod games but this one was really good for the short time I've played it. 10/10 it's worth the 40 dollars.

Z-C Jim Bowie is a freak of nature holding up five lobbies, besides that its a great game when that abysmal shitter is offline.

I don't think i can put into words how much i love this game, brings back good memories; and if you play this game you most certainly will make memories to remember just like I have. The campaign's writing is that worthy of Shakespeare's time. The multiplayer was ahead of its time and would have you staying up late to get that next prestige. The zombies storytelling picks off here from what was started at world at war and does not fail to impress zombies fans. So would I recommend this to others? Absolutely even in today's times the love poured into this game is still felt while playing, something you cant get from games in today's age.

Regular price on steam is $54 CAD which is absolutely not worth it, especially since multiplayer is completely dead, but if you can get it on sale zombies and the campaign are fantastic.

The Black Ops series all started right here, and this game is a gem in the COD series as a whole. Most of us have already played this game for hundreds of hours on the 360 or the ps3, but for those who have never played: definitely purchase this (when on sale, or not, your choice), make sure you have a free weekend or maybe a few days off work, and just grind some multiplayer or zombies and you'll find it hard to shut the game off. Campaign is amazing, but the definite highlight of this game is the insanely fun multiplayer and zombies (more fun with friends 100%). It's a must buy, pretty much. 9/10

I think this is definitely the best among the rest of COD: Black Ops series.

It has awesome plot, though fictional and more like a bunch of conspiracy theories. But all facts can be stranger than fictions sometimes.

The dedicated servers are unable to be rented anymore and the only ones remaining are grandfathered in, it’s only a matter of time until this game dies unfortunately.
It’s still got a couple servers that aren’t psychopaths (crouch servers i’m looking at you) but if an aimbotter hops in there’s nothing much you can do. Combat training is fun, if you don’t mind playing against bots, as you level up independently from MP, and you can play all of the glorious old maps again. Nostalgia aside; avoid this game unless it’s on a big sale.

I played this on the Wii for years in the past. The original Modern Warfare trilogy was pretty good fun outside of its multiplayer being hacked to Hell and back even during their prime, however... Treyarch's games during this same time period stood out yo me more, and I found myself spending more time on them. For me personally, Black Ops was Call of Duty's peak, and its sequel is also fantastic. Outside of campaigns, those two are the only ones I find myself going back to and enjoying in their entirety.

Highly recommend if you want to experience a great, non-predatory Call of Duty entry... Or even if you aren't somehow familiar with the franchise and just want an arcade-y military shooter in the style of an ~80s action film. Every mode is a fun time with plenty of content to keep you entertained, even without considering DLC.

40$ is a crazy high price for a game this old, multiplayer is by far cheat free which is a huge plus, ive found that the zombies playerbase seems to be rather small but it doesnt take a long time to find a squad. overall would reccomend especially if the price drops in the future.

It has been my favorite game since I was a little kid. It has a good plot and ending. This game and 2, will be the only good campaigns that aren't just some boring plots and continue in a rhythm that makes sense and won't overwhelm you. You won't regret playing it or starting with this game.

Black Ops is still the best campaign made for a Call Of Duty game. Treyarch put it all on the line for this game and it works so well.

I don’t wanna spoil anything but how they used previous characters from World at War was perfect and fits so well with the story. Also hearing fortunate son during one of the Vietnam missions was amazing. Was still an awesome game the 2nd time playing.

Not better than bo2 but still fun. Super challenging achievement hunting was fun!

It took me roughly ~6 hours to complete the campaign. The campaign runs well on the Steam port and the only graphical issue I had was character models being completely pitch black during underground tunnel sections. While I had fun doing the campaign I wouldn't recommend this game in the current state the game is in as well as how steep the price is for a 15 year old game.
Apparently playing online puts your PC at risk, even disregarding that the Steam black ops isn't as active as the PlayStation or Xbox servers. Which is really annoying as in order to play against bots you HAVE to play online, even if you play solo with bots it puts you in a private server.
The price being 40 USD is criminal for how old this game is, I bought this for 20 USD (the lowest discounted price) and even then that is a steep price. I hate to give this COD a bad review but voices need to be heard about the server security and obscure price tags.
Get this game if REALLY want to complete the campaign and you do not have a console with the game. Or if you have literally every Steam game, you could spend 20-40 on so many better games and bundles.

This is absolute garbage. I played this game on console when i was young and I had the time of my life yet they still want to charge $40 for a 14 year old game? First of all the first level of the campaign is broken. Once you get to the very end either woods doesn't say his line to progress to the BTR or if he does, somehow when the BTR explodes they die and you fail the mission every time. Don't get me started on the multiplayer. Full of hackers and sometimes the servers don't even work so its either you're stuck to zombies or if you get in a server get ready to be hacked.

One of the best Call of Duties ever made. The campaign and Zombies are some of the best in the franchise. The Zombies in this game influenced the mode to this day and the campaign groundbreaking. The multiplayer is one of the most fun classic Call of Duty experiences I have ever had. 10/10 game.

If you remember playing this game when you were younger, keep it that way. Don't waste the time and money to get this bag of bones running again. It doesn't take a rocket scientist, but it does require you to go through your config file to modify some options. Co-op and Single-player can have unlocked frames, but Multiplayer is locked to 90 FPS. Not that the FPS being locked is the dealbreaker, but the creatures who populate & host these poor excuses for servers are the kryptonite to this entire title. Also, it's worth noting that most servers are 24/7 Nuketown's or Crouch-only Hardcore servers. So, you'll barely be able to play the game as it should be, and you'll probably never use those DLC maps you probably paid for, but that's ok; you have that zombie mode that gets boring after 10 minutes. I was lucky to get a refund after giving this game a chance, but you might not be so fortunate.

The story is very good, I enjoyed every hour of it. It reflects the atmosphere of the story told to you deeply. The feeling of shooting with a gun is not very good. The graphics may not be very satisfactory according to today's conditions, but I think it is very good for its time. Although the game is old, its price is very high, I recommend you to wait for the discounts.

I'm usually not a big fan of any games that use real world history (specifically historical figures) but this game uses them well and the game play is engaging and the story has a certain complexity and depth that modern COD games are lacking. Vehicle missions were my least favorite but I think thats just a me thing. anyways, like 8.7/10

This game should be picked up for 20 euros / dollars on sale as the original asking price is way too steep.

I jumped into this game a while back thinking to maybe recomplete the campaign on Veteran and while I had fun with that (except the vietnam mission barrels part), what ended up constituting the majority of my playtime was the OG zombies.

I had never dabbled into zombies for most of my life but it felt like the right time seeing as I was going for a 100%.
Playing solo was fun and made me nostalgic for a time that I had never experienced myself to be quite frank.
But finding people to play with and going for easter eggs and just doing high waves on Kino Der Toten made me realise why people fell in love with the OG zombies format.

I can only highly recommend this game if you wanna give it a try in 2024 and beyond.
(also Ice Cube is literally your squad mate for most of the campaign, now that's cool)

Black Ops 1 is the best-selling Call of Duty. Think about that. Modern Warfare 2 got the Call of Duty name into households, Black Ops was the one that everyone had to play. Wait for sale, just about every Call of Duty is overpriced and half-functional.

Indirectly following up World At War, my personal favorite in the series, Black Ops places you in the shoes of Alex Mason, who is recruited alongside partners Frank Woods and Joseph Bowman to assassinate Fidel Castro during the Bay of Pigs invasion. After their mission fails, Mason is left behind and Castro turns him over to Nikita Dragovich, who incarcerates Mason in Vorkuta--alongside Soviet WW2 veteran Viktor Resnov, a key character from World at War voiced by flippin Gary Oldman.

Flashing back to just post WW2, Reznov and the Russian protagonist of WaW, alongside Dragovich and his subordinate Kravchenko raid an Arctic Nazi base and take control of a grounded ship containing the powerful weapon Nova-6.

The story is an excellent blend of the real Vietnam and Cold Wars, intrigue, and action, and the game has a really nice variety of stealthy bits, story bits, action set pieces, and general iconography. the aforementioned Gary Oldman murders his role and Sam Worthington is no slouch in this role, Ed Harris fills in a perfect handler role.

Solid use of licensed music helps as well, hearing Fortunate Son from a nearby radio or Sympathy for the Devil during the boat level is always a good time.

Probably the best menu screen in gaming-presented in first person, you are Alex Mason, strapped to a chair looking at screen with the "new game" "options" stuff. your interrogator will ask questions every now and again, and you can break out of your restraints to access a secret terminal (on which you can type cheat codes, or play all of Zork on)

14 years later and it's still the best CoD game ever, the Campaign has great storywriting filled with lots of actions and plot twist. Also, if you're a Cold War history enthusiast you will enjoy this game more. It has the great mix between historical and fictional.

It's a shame that BOCW has a dissapointing Campaign. It really lacks of action and too many stealth sequence which makes the pacing very slow and bad, the story has zero connections and nothing to do with BO1, and i'll never forgive how bad the writings of original characters. Mason and Woods are badass in BO1 but they become so goofy in BOCW, and always joking around at the wrong time. They also made Hudson a manipulative and unlikeable character.

This game is ONE OF THE BEST shooter games I've played, I would recommend to anyone who likes a game with guns, the missions are fun, the action is great I will play Black Ops 2 after this

Playing this game is like having sex with someone who has STDs, but you do it anyways hoping you don't catch anything. That being said, this game is very good on pc and has minimal issues other than the occasional crash and the risk of playing any older CoD which is the possibility of hacking and viruses. ALSO, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AT FULL PRICE! WAIT FOR SALE! NO FUCKING COD THIS OLD SHOULD BE 40 FUCKING DOLLARS WHAT AN OUTRAGE. I got game plus all dlc for about 40 bucks during summer sale and that is still fucking outrageous, but i do love this game. Multiplayer is somewhat active with the most played map still being nuketown. Zombies stays somewhat populated on most maps but Kino is usually always populated. I have met many people still, though, and i dont have much trouble finding other maps; especially if i invite people to the search. Fun game, recommended, just beware of the risks of playing because it is very easy to get hacked.

This was my first ever CoD but on Wii and I say the zombies is still good in this game. It was a slightly more advanced version of WaW but still classic enough before Bo3's and even Bo2's zombies became a little more complicated in comparison. That's not to say they are bad because both of those games offer great experiences. However this game is just the icing on the cake for zombies. My one complaint is that there's some input lag in this game with a keyboard and mouse for whatever reason no matter my settings along with some stuttering fps in certain areas on certain maps. It is what it is, it's not the worst experience but believe it or not WaW doesn't seem to have this issue.

If this goes on sale for really cheap then buy it. You'll love it!

The best zombies map of all time: Kino der Toten, Black Ops 1. To me, its as good as it gets.

The story is compelling and engaging and is a completely mindfuck.
But is a nice successor to the modern warfare series!

a good continuation of Treyarch's last game, Call of Duty: World at War. the guns feel unique and awesome to use, and the campaign is a mind-fuck that keeps you scrambling to find out what the story is. the "nazi zombies" mode returns in this one too

This review only applies to the singleplayer campaign.
I guess this is what I should've expected from a direct sequel to World at War that happened to come out in 2010. In many ways, it's the most 2010 game I've ever played from 2010:
- Slow movement? Check.
- A few too many quick time events? Check.
- A few too many vehicle segments with dogcrap controls? Check.
- Haunted house level design, with the player ferried through the most linear FPS maps ever devised for a commercial FPS game up until that point? Check.
- A COD with a new theme for a new decade that happened to play host to the anniversaries of the hottest moments of the Cold War, thereby guaranteeing maximum appeal? Check.
- A general feeling of artificiality? Check. (Maybe it's my inner game designer talking, but often when the NPCs and music are rushing you, you usually don't actually need to rush and you have all the time in the world. In fact, sometimes I'd advise against rushing or you'll break the level's scripting. Even when there's a timer on the screen, that countdown is VERY generous. As in, you probably have twice the required time to complete whatever the timed objective is. I played on Veteran, and after needing to reload a few times, I realised how much of this game's AI is scripted and not reactive to your decisions at all. As a player, you have very little agency, and the gameplay essentially exists to test your accuracy with semi-realistic automatic weapons.)
- A slightly convoluted story that needs to be completed twice to really understand wtf is going on? Check. (This is in stark contrast to later live service CODs, which would much prefer that you spend your time, and therefore money, in the multiplayer.)

As always in every single game that has them, the AK-47 / STG-44 is the most OP weapon in the game and your first priority during any mission will be to drop whatever over-engineered NATO trash you start with and replace it with an AK or AK derivative. Especially when the AK47Us with extended mags start showing up... yup just forget every other weapon apart from in that mission where you need the heat optics to see enemies through gas/smoke. My heart loves that the AK is always OP in every game ever, but my brain hates it.

I like COD for different reasons to most people. It's the historical/political commentary that gets me in, at least on a discount. This one, is, uh... well it's a good game and I kinda want a Reznov body pillow, but it finishes what MW2 started in turning the series away from stories that can be taken seriously. BO1 is a lot less critical of postwar US foreign policy than I expected it to be, and throws the grey morality that I associate with most COD campaigns out the window. Seeing as half the game is set in the ****ing Vietnam War, that's a massive missed opportunity.

The story is good, don't get me wrong, but it feels (and plays) like it belongs in an 80s or 90s James Bond film. Previous CODs usually went out of their way to humanise the enemies to some extent, but BO1 is very black & white. For many people, this game (and the BO series generally) is probably their only exposure to Cold War historical themes, which is better than nothing, but in no way is it historically accurate. I guess that when the period and themes that the writers have to work with are mostly semi-classified CIA documents and conspiracy theories, some stuff has to be made up. And I gotta say, that ending was cool, in a sort of inner male politically aware teenager kinda way.

Best game of 2010? Hell no. GOTY 2010? Hell yes.
