one of the absolute classic call of duty experiences. Relentless firefights in south east asia combined with the tension and mystery of the cold war and creativity of alternate history. amazing satisfying gunplay and enviroment that still stands up today without needing the ability to jump off walls and do backflips in mid air with drones and shit.
the multiplayer has bots built into the game so you can play by yourself offline which i enjoy
the zombies is good and is a staple in the series.
while i may have played the game as a little kid, coming back to it now i am properly able to appreciate it fully.
definitely worth getting on a sale if you're into smooth linear shooter with interesting story and satisfying gunplay

This is probably the best call of duty game ever made. Everything about this game is awesome from the campaign, multiplayer, and zombies, this game has it all. It's also nostalgic to come back and play this game as a 19 year old man as i vividly remember playing this when I was 9 and 10. And yes, I do think that this game is better than black ops 2.
Possibly the best CoD Campaign in the whole series, classic weapons, and none of the over-the-top crap that ruins the more modern games

An array of choices and scenarios... caters to ANY mood e.g., after a long hard shift (that's what I said) a lazy CATurday, or Sunday morning... you can find something to kill no matter what the situation is. Not to mention varying levels of difficulty.

Arguably the best campaign in COD history, Black Ops has aged like a fine wine. S tier game, would highly recommend to anyone looking to relive the old days of the X-Box 360. Zombies mode is still as great as I remember.
This game is the 2nd best Call of Duty title in the series. 1000x better than Black AI Slop Ops 6. The campaign is still a awesome masterpiece to play through just like the World at War campaign. Multiplayer in this game was peak but unfortunately playing on official servers these days is NOT safe due to RCE exploits you'll need to play on plutonium for a safe and secure experience. The zombies is still great the nostalgia goes hard, I recommend checking out the Renaissance mod and BO1 zombies reimagined. They don't make em like they used too.
Also Craptivision lower the prices on these games pls no wonder I pirated majority of the titles after the H2M cease and desist :) L activision buy this over BO6 btw

crashes all the time on pc especially after a chapter in a mission so u have to do it again and again. safe mode no help. verify files says i needs fixing but fail s to fix it. a very frustrating game which could have been excellent
Who doesn't love Black ops? its the business! Zombies is kick-ass as ever! and multiplayer is still sick although probably not as easy to find servers but there is a couple. Buy it and jam!

Amazing and intriguing story. Fun Achivement objectives. Zombies is always fun. Completed 100% on ps3, proceeding to complete the entire game on PC next. Favorite zombies map will always be Kino and Call of the Dead! ^^
A good storyline and decent combat. Just as good as Ghosts in terms of combat but the storyline is better here.
One of the all time greatest games, it might be out of date now but still has a lot to offer and some of the best zombies maps to date.

- runs good on steam deck but u gotta download a custom button layout for the controls to work and even at that the controls stay a bit weird, but it is playable on steam deck for sure
I love black ops 1 but I have tried to play this more than 50 times and it worked once for whatever reason it did one day. A few days later I tried it again and guess what. It did the same thing again. Can't play the game even if I wanted to. Get this for a ps3 or xbox360
Good story, good game, terrible veteran, you move you die, you shoot you die you stay in a corner you die. This is the hardest cod on verteran so far, it is an amazing game but who ever made the veteran difficulty is a moron no wonder why 6.8% of players have the veteran achievement i would recommend playing on any difficulty than veteran.
This game is known for having a great story mode and for a good reason. It's a must play if you're thinking about playing a older cod for the story. The zombies mode was great too! Many memorable and unique maps were made during this cod's cycle. But if you want the best bang for your buck. BO3 offers you more zombie maps. The multiplayer was great too. The maps were great and the score streaks were satisfying to use.

Probably my favorite Campaign in not only in a Call of duty game, but probably my favorite Campaign in gaming as a hole ! The twist, the missions, the writing, and the game play, everything about the Campaign is just a masterpiece !
Black Ops 1 Zombies holds up beautifully in 2025, considering its age. The unsettling atmosphere present in almost every map isn't replicated in anything made today. It's extremely unforgiving but rewarding once you learn certain strategies and get used to the two-hit down system. The only downside is the lack of a sufficient player base. Although you can find full lobbies, I'm from Australia, and I can sometimes go a week without meeting a fellow Aussie, so dealing with high ping can be an issue. Apart from that, if you're looking for a nostalgic, hardcore Zombies experience, there's no other game like Black Ops 1 Zombies.
I missed out on the Call of Duty franchise during its heyday. I went into this game not knowing much about the story, and I was pleasantly surprised at how challenging and captivating this game was.
Its a lil retro ugly which is fine ! But yeah its the game ! DW about the multiplayer option, if you download the main youll be able to play the zombies part w/friends !
Also heads up: inviting someone to a match - they will need to be in game to recieve the invite !
Its the same game I grew up with, i got it on discount ! (really recommend getting it on discount)
This game is great, I wouldn't recommend buying at full price however. There are some issues, for some reason if you buy the game it just won't start, for me it took repeatedly trying to start it over and over until a pop up came up asking to allow the game to make changes, but for some people it may just not start ever so be careful when buying. But other than that the game is fun, the zombies is great, and the story is nice. If you can get it on a deal then I would recommend.

Одна из лучших частей Call of Duty. Очень понравился сюжет. Он очень интересный и захватывающий. Тут есть запоминающиеся персонажи, такие как Резнов, Мейсон и Вудс. Графика в игре отличная даже спустя почти 15 лет. Понравилась расчлененка врагов. Бесит лишь бесконечный респавн, но он лишь в миссии Морпехи. Славу богу, что эта часть последняя игра серии с бесконечными врагами. Мне понравились зомби режим и мультиплеер. Спасибо тем фанатам, которые играют в игру до сих пор. Оценка этой игре 8.5 из 10.
P.S. Очень жду ремастера этой части вместе с ремастером Black Ops 2.

Well, I have very mixed feelings about this review.
Nostalgia:
I played the game on my Xbox 360 back in the day, so going back to this game took me back to the good old days.
But the game is now 14 years old, and since the price hasn't changed, I'm not giving this game an ‘It's a classic’ rating.
The story:
It really is the one and only.
I think it was the beginning of a great story that got killed in seconds with bo2.
Every level feels right, it's brutal, it's cool, it's a badass fighting army with a really good story behind it.
Gameplay:
The gameplay feels very dynamic and depending on what difficulty you play, you will absolutely get destroyed or fly through it.
This game also has some of the best COD single player levels out there, with Guns you don't see in other FPS games. (HKG11, spectre etc)
Functionality:
Well there are bugs that date back to 2014 and Activiton didn't give a damn.
-You have a Flashlight in any level? Then be prepared that every character is pitch black with no texture.
- Bringing this Game to start normaly is a pain in the arse, and tbh I don't know how I fixed my problems.
It wasn't because of Direct X, it wasn't because of compatibility mode for Win7 and it wasn't because of the game files. My computer has way more than the recommended specs and the OS doesn't matter for this problem either (Win11 and Win10 have the same issues)
- Then there are bugs with damage, enemie spawns etc etc the list for this game goes on and on and these were there 10 years ago on Win7 machines so no its and old game excuse.
Multiplayer:
Everyone knows this game has serious security issues, so I would recommend only playing in private lobbies or on servers you trust.
But even if you avoid the gaping security issues, you can't hide the fact that this game is dead.
So the multiplayer should not be a reason to buy this game.
Price:
Everyone knows that the older a game is, the more you lower its price.
Well, the Call of Duty guys certainly don't know that rule.
And no, this game is not worth 40 or 20 dollars. It's worth 10 at most, not because it's bad, no, because it's old and can't keep up with newer games. For fuck sake RDR2 is only $20 and that game won over 175 Game of the Year Awards.
But it's not just the main game that's fucking expensive, the DLCs also cost 14 dollars each.
And what do you get for that?
4 shitty online maps that nobody plays anymore and a zombie map.
But why is that important?
Just don't buy them, right?
Well, if you want to play the game 100% through, you have to grind through zombie mode to get anything done.
At full price, you pay $96 for this game and all the DLCs.
A 14 year old game that relies on its player base for its main content.
Crazy, Activision is unique in its way.
Let's come to the end:
Was this game a hit back then? Yes
Did nostalgia hit hard? Yes
Is the game worth the price? No
The price and how poorly the game runs are the only reasons for this poor rating, it kinda breaks my heart.
If they fixed the issues from back then and made the extra content available for free it would be a 10/10 rating, but like this? No
Charging as much as they do for this game that is barely functional is disgusting practice and horribly anti-consumer.
Zombies and singleplayer works okay, if you don't mind trial-and-erroring your way through a menagerie of various different bugs. Buuuut multiplayer, even for a simple private match, is pretty much entirely broken.
Endless "downloading game settings", getting kicked back to the menu and told to pay for maps that are part of the base game, connecting to servers being endless and never actually going through, it's a complete travesty.
If you're going to have the audacity to charge 30GBP outside of a sale for this game, at least make it work semi-competently.
It's very blatant that the lack of function for the old COD games is to drive people to play their new slopgames and it really sucks because this franchise died in the early 2010s from my point of view and a large part of me yearns for that in an age where modern FPS games have been overrun with hero shooters and BR games. Shame.

Replaying this was a nostalgia trip.
I think this game has one of the best stories in Call of Duty even though this game is stupid and has so many dumb action movie scenes that make no sense.
Story is really good, The missions are really fun. And the graphics are good. It's a amazing game. Zombies is really cool too! The multiplayer is cool as we get the greatest map of all time I'd say.
The fact that this game is still listed in the store is criminal.
First of all, the game downloads with missing files or just won't launch at all. It took me an hour of troubleshooting to get anywhere.
Then, my game is completely in German. I'm not sure if this is a problem for everyone, but it is for me, as I don't speak German. Even if you're willing to go into the game files and manually replace the German files with English ones, the cutscenes will still be in German.
After all that, my game stutters and loses frames. It's unplayable, whether I'm in the campaign or zombies mode.
Lastly, this game is vulnerable to RCE exploits and more, with no protection. Most players aren't even aware of this or what it entails. Whether you're playing solo or just sitting in the menu, you're at risk.
There is absolutely no point in buying this game unless you're planning to play offline. Even then, just get Plutonium. This game is still listed at $40 when not on sale, which is just tragic. It didn't take much more than this for me to send in my refund request. Save yourself the time, pain, and suffering that comes with this one.

One of the better CoD games. Its a little annoying to get it to run the first time and the NPCs are useless on veteran but i love it all the same.

¶ Now, let’s talk Zombies, because oh boy, Treyarch took it to the next level here. My favorite mode got an upgrade with deeper storylines, crazier maps, and mind-blowing Easter eggs. The “Moon” map is legendary, with its low-gravity combat and epic secrets, and the Rezurrection DLC is a masterpiece. Seeing the classic World at War maps revamped with a fresh coat of style was a total nostalgia trip. I can’t even count how many hours I’ve spent slaying the undead, Easter eggs, or just surviving for as long as possible.
¶ As for multiplayer, it’s everything you’d expect from a Call of Duty game—fast, chaotic, and ridiculously fun. The map variety is fantastic, ranging from close-quarters chaos (like the legendary Nuketown) to wide-open spaces that cater to every playstyle. Whether you’re a run-and-gun SMG player or a sniper who loves picking off enemies from a distance, there’s something here for everyone.
¶ In short, Black Ops is a total package. It’s got one of the best campaigns in the series, a multiplayer mode that never gets old, and a Zombies experience that’s an absolute blast. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just looking for a top-tier FPS, this is one game that delivers on every front.
The simplicity of bo1 is what makes it top tier in my book. It is so grounded and real unlike later installments and the zombies mode is one of the best. Five and Kino are amazing maps that are as i've said, beautiful in its simplicity unlike later maps, and the almost yin and yang of those two maps of one being challenging and one being more easy satisfies both player bases of the sweats and the casual players. And we cannot forget the memorable multiplayer maps this game gave us, like firing range, summit, and of course, Nuketown. If there was a Video Game version of the National Film Registry, I'd definitely vote for this to be on there.
Online doesn't work anymore for pc without downloading dangerous clients which can harm your pc :(
I will not repurchase this game based purely on the fact that even on 50% off sale, it cost around $60 to buy this game with all the DLCs. Online is dangerous to play as well. Hackers can gain pretty deep access to your computers functions through this game

Best zombies in the series but this steam version doesn't work. Not even solo. I got dead ops arcade to work one time now whenever I start a game it crashes. Can anyone enlighten me with a fix in the comments?
