And Left 4 dead is the perfect embodiment of a zombie apocalypse . Though the game is stunningly old it is the simplicity of the world, combined with gameplay design, that make it special and so beloved. The gameplay is easy and smooth, it welcomes new players with a warming hug.
The main objective of the game is survival . It is its greatest strength. It is the truth that binds us together, making each journey unforgettable and unique. Cause within this objective lies the fundamental human need - love. Yeah, I said it!
LOVE. What is the recipe for it? Recognizing the need of the other, listening to him, protecting him and finally helping him to escape this mad zombiefied hell. Almost like in real life.

Versus L4D is one of the most visceral PvP action you can get. Especially, if you play on custom servers with plug-ins. (Lewd4dead, zambieland, zo-zo, etc.

Whenever you perform a perfect attack as infected there is an uplifting spark in your mind. You are becoming a junkie. Versus is the peak of intelligence and skills. And although I consider myself an average versus player there is no other feeling when you tear up survivor's flesh with them hunter claws. *evil grin* Covered in blood so much, you can almost drink it. Perfect for those angry, angry days of your life.
I can go on and on about L4D. This world is amazing and add-ons with new maps make it forever young.
So what is Left 4 Dead? An escape from reality, which is much more scary, than actual zombie outbreak? Or, the reality simulator in the unreal setting? The opportunity to unleash your darkest desires? An addiction?
It is just a game.
But, a pretty intoxicating one, and no doubt, one of the best games ever made .

Epic game, vastly improved from the first game, awesome campaign and a great Survival mode that is really fun trying to last as long as it gets harder and harder.
An improvement in almost every way from the first game, if you have not played L4D2 for some reason then pick this up during a sale, its a wonderful Coop adventure that has great replay value and that also has a TON of cool mods that people have made, which includes new levels,etc..
Controls are good, the music is wonderful and there are some great improvements from the first game, which was also awesome. This is a perfect example of how to do a sequel to a great game, keep the basics that everyone loved there, but add a bunch of new and cool things to the formula :)
The basic combat and gameplay is the same as the first game but its just so much fun this gameplay loop that you will be coming back for more and more. Even all these years later it is still fun as hell to play!
No idea why I didn't have a review up for this game when I played it the day it came out and loved it right from the start, I guess I forgot to put a review up for it, so here is one right now :)
Can we get a Left 4 Dead 3 one day? Many other dev teams have tried to make Coop games like L4D1/2 but they have all failed to nail that feeling and fun that the L4D series nailed so well. Grab a friend or 2 and hop on on Left 4 Dead 2 for sone glorious coop action, I would say try the Campaign first and then go and do a bunch of Survival mode on all the maps and then download a bunch of user made missions/campaigns that modders created.
I enjoy this sequel to one of my favorite shooter games. New weapons, characters, and new types of zombies give the game a fresh feel. I still prefer the original for single play, but will gladly team play on both games. I wouldn't let little kids watch, but the gore factor is minimal so most pre-teens should be fine to observe or play themselves.

Valve's attempt on a zombie game. As all other their games this one is good, even better than that. It lacks good story, missions not always coupled together well, campaigns are almost not connected but... but overall gameplay is fun. Second game is way better than the first one in many aspects, more weapons, more missions, more interesting items, more unique zombies, better graphics. Gameplay is well thought and interesting, levels are versatile, a lot of interesting places to kill zombies. From time to time game can be hard, especially on the higher difficulty levels. Main aspect is made on the coop here, playing with bots is not that fun.
Multiplayer is a separate story. There are a lot of things to do here, a lot of maps, game mods, achievements, you need to know maps well. Players with hundreds or thousands of hours do not tolarate novice players, often you can be kicked from the game because you are not playing the same way as they want you to play. However overall multiplayer experience is very nice and rewarding, you need sometime to get used to it but when you do you will like it for sure.
And the last thing - achievements. There are tons of them for both single and multiplayer, almost all of them can be doable however some requires huge amount of time. And "Good Guy Nick" achievement is very hard to do since it depends on the Valve's event which happens very rarely.
Overal - old game about zombies, very well executed in all aspects, recommended.

Silly game where you shoot zombies, the levels are fun and easy to do. Better to play with friends / on higher difficulty if you enjoy a bit of a challenge. Personally I think the best part about this game is the fact that it has Workshop Levels + Mods so once you finish all the levels, you don't have to play the same ones over.

This game is incredibly fun, the repetitive elements makes it more fun in a way you're finding secrets and references to other things. The interaction between all the characters makes the game more memorable, they leave a mark, and especially since you can play with friends, and crack jokes non-stop at each other, just as if you were in the game, since it'd be relating to the humour within the game, it's just extremely endless. Still is one of my favourite games of all time from childhood, and I'm sure that many others agree. It just has the massive sense of nostalgia, that is irreplaceable, with just spending countless hours on something that released over 10 years ago, and still gets the very same positive treatment that it did, to this day.
What to say about this game after more than 400 hours playing it? It's funny, it's boring, it's annoying, it's likeable. I have had several "I'm done, I'm deleting this game" moments, but every now and then the game is installed again and I go chop some heads and spill guts.
As people already said in the reviews, after so many years and after so many different zombie games, this one is somehow still the best.
With the community maps and add-ons this game really has an infinitive potential to stay strong for many years.

The workshop also allows player to mold the game and give Left 4 Dead new life and things to explore/test/have fun with... (And I'm not a fan of Zombies/Shooters)
As an average FPS game enjoyer, I was barely disappointed by the workshop contents which are literally the "life support" for this old game. Do stay away from Versus mode in public lobbies as a beginner, as dudes can be really toxic unless you've played long enough (yet this is pretty common for other multiplayer games as well) or you can simply suffer the endless vote-kick spamming.
My buddy Keith tried camping out on top of a building once. He was shooting crows, but the police were too busy tear gassing him to ask what he was doing up there. He screamed for an entire YEAR every single time he opened his eyes! Oh, man. At first it was funny, then it just got sad, but then it got funny again! Oh, man.
Jimmy Gibbs Jr. is the man. I mean, I don't know anybody like that, man. But there was this guy I knew, he was racing dirt track, not stock cars but open wheeled cars you know, and he was racing once and a goat...
I ever tell you about the time me and Keith made home made bumper car ride with riding mowers in his back yard? Mower blade wounds over ninety percent of his body. I didn't run him over, either. He somehow managed to fall under his own.
I ever tell you about the time my buddy Keith fell out the roller coaster? Yeah, he didn't drop far, mind you, just onto the tracks, but the carnival people wouldn't stop the ride cause all the other people paid good money and Keith snuck on for free, so he had to dodge for like twenty minutes or so.
I ever tell you about the time Keith and I made fireworks? Now, I didn't know s*** about chemistry, but Keith figured, "Gasoline burns, doesn't it?". Third degree burns over ninety-five percent of his body. Man, people in the next city over were calling to complain about the smell of burning skin.
One time, the army bombed my buddy Keith. He went camping and didn't bother to read the signs, and I guess they were just testing bombs that day. All sorts of stuff too, not just regular bombs. Like biological nerve gas bombs, shrapnel bombs, these bombs that break up in the air into like a hundred smaller bombs--
This one time, my buddy Keith started up a historic tour, on account of his mom took him to Colonial Williamsburg, and it's like a license to print money at them places. Now you might ask yourself how an honest attempt to recreate the majesty of Colonial times turned into raccoon fights at five bucks a pop in Keith's backyard, ha-ha. Man, the answer to that particular question is that Keith is sharing a place with his two brothers and them being assholes who wouldn't let them do it anywhere but the backyard; well, add that to Keith didn't technically have any, y'know, history to put on display, but he did have a whole family of raccoons living in the chassis of an old car and you'd begin to understand.
Yo, my buddy Keith had his car drop in a lake off a bridge just like this one here... Yeah, see, he was driving over it late at night and there in the middle of the bridge was what looked like, In Keith's estimation, like a dead bear, so Keith gets out his car to find a stick to poke at it right? Well, it turns out it's just some lady's fur coat that musta fallen out her car, so, hey, free coat, right? Now, owls won't normally attack a man, but in this case, they were hungry, and that made them reckless, man. Keith reckons that they musta been there for hours watchin' what they thought was a bear carcass, 'cause as soon as he picked it up, them owls had claws in him inch deep. Well, Keith figures his best bet is to jump in a lake, 'cause owls can't swim. Well, them owls could. He fought them for like 20 minutes treading water, and during that time, a boat came, bridge went up and down went Keith's car. Man, sometimes nature's just tryin' to teach us, if we'd only listen.
I ever tell you about the time my buddy Keith made sushi? Yeah, his mom took him to a sushi place for his birthday and he didn't want to go, but he turned out he LOVED it, man. But it's like 10 bucks a su-sho in one of them places, so Keith figures, "Hey, how hard can it be to roll up some raw food in seaweed," right? As it turns out, it's hard. Now, they say experience is the best teacher, and experience taught Keith that if you ever eat three pounds of raw chicken, it kills you. Now luckily, Keith's brain went into self-defense mode and started shutting organs down to head the chicken off at the pass, and the doctors were able to get 'em out before his heart stopped. But to this day, Keith has no sensation in his right foot, and he doesn't recognize his own brother Paul no more.
My hours are dishonest as I played this on an older account and on Xbox back in the day, but this series still remains one of my favorites. Right after Portal, but before Half Life because I admittedly never beat the latter.
Still fun, workshop is incredible, just a hands down well made game. It's no wonder Vermintide took off as it did, horde killers focusing on movement and achieving goals is just a niche you can't fill too much on. Now if only I could stop having Skill Issues with melee and REALLY play the game it was intended...
I nominate this game as eligible within what I call the Steam Essentials Library. Not that I needed to clarify that it was ever worthy. Sorry B4B but you can't top perfection.
l4d2 is good however if you want to play public versus mode then your team will either be full of sweats that will kick u for smallest mistake or your team will be full of retards that don't know how to play
Very good game. Lots of customisation options offering hours of endless game play. I can't believe I had never played this game until this year. Sad really, as I missed its peak. Definitely a must have for zombie slayers!!

What needs to be said about L4D2 that hasn't been said already? It's an absolutely amazing game that still has no equal. This game will still be THE game for years to come when it comes to Zombie Horde Survival! Just buy it if you don't have it yet. It's probably $5 now and you're getting a game that most would pay $70 for.
This game just ages like a fine wine. It's also the type of game that you won't get tired or bored playing over and over again - it's just that good. As per the date/time I'm making this review, the game reaches its 15th anniversary this year 2024 and it never did lose its charm. For this game this old, you gotta give the credit to Valve for this. More importantly, L4D2 is a class of its own and to call it a masterpiece is an understatement.
While the game itself is very fun, I cannot recommend it because of how most of my encounters have been with the community at this point. For the five hours (at the time I reviewed this) I have played this game, I have been called countless slurs, and have been kicked in most of the multiplayer games I have joined for not being an experienced player. I genuinely hope that I can change this review, but I have had nothing but bad encounters with players so far.
What I’m trying to say is that the game is great, but my enjoyment from it has been severely degraded by how I was treated by others in this game.
The GOAT of co-op zombie shooters. Left 4 Dead 2 is an absolute masterpiece. I completed all achievements in just 72 hours every moment was an adrenaline rush. From mowing down hordes with friends to surviving heart-pounding finales, this game is pure gold.
Playing as pepsi man with my friend as Mr.Bean accompanied by sanic and shrek whilst fighting hordes of minecraft zombies has been the best use of my nights. Great game, great time spent and endless fun with mods.
I like it as it's but, the reason I played this over 1000+ hours is mainly due to workshop campaigns. Mod community definitely contributed a lot for this game.

Not worth it if you're gonna solo queue. The game is pretty fun but finding and joining an official vanilla campaign is such a painful experience. You can specifically search for official servers and you'll still somehow end up in modded servers and the modded servers are absolutely horrible. The only way you can avoid them is by trying to get banned from them by griefing, trolling or something. Get it if you want to play offline and with bots otherwise just don't waste your time, find something else.
played vanilla for a whopping 10 minutes before i downloaded like idk 850+ mods. great game. havent had this much fun with a game in quite a while
Incredible game! Fun to play with friends, one issue is that you will find yourself ending up in third party servers, so its always easier to create your own and play with your friends so that you wont need to worry about it. Gun play is very nice.
Drop in drop out. Game has ton of replay value. Each play through is different here and there. Tons of content and mods from workshop.
Classic experience that has carried over to the likes of vermintide. stands up extremely well in todays market. great voice acting, lore, story, zombies, gunplay. also the moddings insane.

The single player and co-op modes are fun, the PvE modes are ass since the game is filled with hackers.
You can get a day's worth of fun, then the game becomes extremely repetitive (and annoying too, it gets old after the third match against hackers).
Another con of the game: the player base is more toxic than a nuclear wasteland.
This game is worth it and the mods in the workshop make the game even more fun to play.
If you need a game on Steam you can play with your friends, this is arguably the best game for that. Good amount of enemy variety, fun weapons to play with, thrilling campaigns, and the most flexible and amazing modding/Workshop support I seen out of perhaps any game ever. Especially for a game that had PvE game modes in mind before being a sandbox-type of an experience!
Very fun, and would even go out to say the best zombie game out there next to DeadRising. The characters, the story, the different types of zombies, the weaponry, and just about everything else about this game ensnared me as a kid, and still holds up to this day. With steam + workshop it makes it very easy to mod and makes the game so much better, more fun, and hilarious. Who doesn't want to be chased by a horde of monkey zombies, or Zoidberg zombies? 10/10 game.
