Действие разворачивается сразу после зомби-апокалипсиса: кооперативный режим на выживание предлагает игрокам выбраться из кишащего заражёнными эпицентра катастрофы в четырёх уникальных «фильмах», забрасывающих персонажей то на крыши заброшенного мегаполиса, то в запустелый городок, то в кромешную тьму леса. Каждый «фильм» состоит из пяти больших уровней, где игрокам нужно работать в команде и выполнять те или иные задачи.
Новая технология, названная разработчиками «AI Director», делает каждое прохождение уникальным. «Режиссёр» подстраивает количество и свирепость зомби под успехи игроков, отчего они словно попадают в стремительный (но не гнетущий) голливудский хоррор.

«Жертва» — это новый адд-он для Left 4 Dead.События «Жертвы» предваряют кампанию «Переход»: в этом адд-оне персонажи Left 4 Dead направляются на юг. Помимо развития сюжета здесь представлено новое, «жертвенное» завершение кампании, где игрокам нужно решить, кто из них отдаст свою жизнь за других.
Владельцы адд-она «Жертва» для Left 4 Dead могут играть в него в режимах «Кампания», «Сражение» и «Выживание».

Left 4 Dead 2 might be a 10/10, but the original Left 4 Dead is superb and has a uniquely dark atmosphere to the game. It's a timeless classic that holds up to this day.
this game is amazing and the animation at the start is sooo cool considering it was made in 2009 and infinite replayability

This is the place where the long bloodline of co-op action horror games for 4 players began. I played this game with my friends for the first time when we were in the middle school. We did not have much, but shooting zombies with friends was actually all we needed. Even for this generation, sometimes, we don't want serious stories, or the WOKE concept, or those DEI things; we just want to simply shoot zombies with friends. I really miss that time when games are simple and fun.

I wanted to expand my collection of Valve games and Left 4 Dead was the next on the list.
L4D is an unexpectedly fun online co-op game with a small but active community. It's light on the storytelling side but makes up for it with good old zombie blasting action. The zombies are fast and plentiful. I was surprised by just how many zombies come at you at once and on expert difficulty it gets challenging. You can play each campaign in single player where the other characters are bots but the game is much more enjoyable in multiplayer. The versus mode pits a team of survivors versus a team of zombies for some extra excitement.
The atmospheres of these levels have a depressing tone and make for perfect zombie-killing action. The crew of four unique characters also makes this game all the more enjoyable.
Yeah i hate this game this shits sucks so much ass the ai sucks the enemy spawns suck and im slowly losing my mind everytime i play this shit 10/10 masterpiece
brings back memories and repressed rage. wish we could cross play with other systems so i'd actually have help other than the incompetent computers.
still a fun game to look back and to play if you're looking to see the differences between l4d1 and l4d2, and the game is still super fun with friends.
the problem is the community that plays it nowadays is hilariously toxic, with people killing you if do anything slightly different from their plans, even if they're not even the host.
at least the official servers are actually valve official ones, rather than modded servers
this game is a master peice for the little time ive played this game its shown how hard it is and has so much replay ablity with endless mods and versus mode i cant wait to learn more mechanics in the game aswell

It's interesting to play this if you also tend to play left 4 dead 2, or vice versa, as you can see the significant differences of functionalities between the two and how they differ.
Although, I'd recommend purchasing left 4 dead 2 than 1 due to left 4 dead 2 already having left 4 dead 1 content included. And it's just has more expansion along with it.
Both great games, but 2 is objectively better.
After one hour of play time, I can say that this game is very fun if you like coop fps games! The various zombies are different enough for it to not be boring and if you have decent teammates, the game get even better! I would highly recommend it!

The game was fun and addicting when it first came out.
I know the majority of people didn't play it until the 2nd version came out but I always had a blast.
I think you definitely need to have a friend group similar to hell divers 2 otherwise the game's mechanics simply aren't that fun and neither is the story.

At this point, this and every single Valve game is a must-get, tons of fun, as long as you have enough friends to play along, otherwise, the single player mode is decent.
It's Left4Dead, it was amazing on release, it's still good albeit different from what it was on release, but it defined a series of coop shooters that came after it.
If you have never played it, you owe it to yourself to play it at least once the whole way through.
The game is a work of art but the intelligence of the average player will make you lose faith in humanity.

I sunk countless hours in the original XBOX release on a 19" TV back when it was first released. A true champion of the COOP genre, and at the time advanced in how it challenged you and your team. Still holds up today, the graphics are still not half bad and even on the most budget minded system runs smooth. Grab it on sale for an amazing deal.
The game is really fun and the gore is just incredible for its time definently would buy again

I got this game and the sequel for around 2 pounds (I'm British).
Last time I played this game was around 2018 on my old Xbox 360.
So, I get my new PC yesterday, and everything is just peachy. Until I install Steam and find out Left 4 Dead 1 and Left 4 Dead 2 are in a bundle for sale. Since my Mum added 25 quid onto my Debit Card, without hesitation, I bought it. I haven't yet played the second one, but I'll do that when the time comes (Today Possibly).
I've played the first one for around 2 hours, and I've gotta say, the nostalgia hit me like 5 trains at once, it was breathtaking. I highly recommend this absolute classic, as it's a damn good time killer. I don't care how old it really is, I'll play it any time of the day. Despite this game being old enough to start a relationship, and have kids with it, The graphics will never get old. And the amount of detail put into the characters. For example, Zoey sometimes screams out movie lines. That's because of her lore. Her backstory was her being a college student to produce movies, but she ended up staying at home and watching movies. It's really great detail that people may miss, or might not even get, it's nuts.
Again, I HIGHLY recommend you buy this. Maybe wait for a sale, though.

But you already knew that didn't you? what you are wondering is, how does this game hold up in 2024? The answer to that is.... pretty good. People still play the multiplayer missions and by virtue of it being a game from 2008.... it runs on nearly anything. You can get it to work on the steam deck, it just takes a lot of input switching and testing.
A war vet, a biker, a nerd and dollar store Claire Redfield overdose on pills and shoot zombies. Despite this game almost being old enough to fuck and marry it still looks great thanks to its timeless artstyle.
Tons of fun with others, I'd be surprised if you've not heard of or tried this game already.

Ive Always heard stories about this series so i decided to give it a try and i love it. im years late on this game but man does it bring you back to the old arcade style games.
i played this game as zoey and this was the most painful experience i have ever had trying to solo this game on single player on expert with sexist ai teammates that refuse to revive me when i go down and dont protect my back when i lead in front, louis always stops reviving me midway to revive bill or francis , "francis startled the witch" "francis startled the witch" "francis startled the witch" about 8 times or so in a row , they throw a Molotov at my dying body , bill goes down every second and always run the opposite way from me but the ai follow bill and not me for some reason they die i die we restart
11/10 would love to get humiliated by ai again
Would buy l4d2 first then this. But a UTTER clasic. Would 100% recomend you buy this (If you have the spare cash)
The shooting experience is unpleasant and the bullet impact is not sufficient.
Here's a quick review of my thoughts after beating "Left 4 Dead" on the PC.
+ Graphics are really good. Valve cooked with the source engine. It looked amazing back then and still looks killer today.
+ Atmosphere fits the game well. Everything looks exactly how it would look in a zombie apocalypse but it thankfully doesn’t go over the top with decor as to distract the player when this is a game where every second counts.
+ The main four characters are just an enjoyable bunch. Lots of character specific dialogue and interactions between them. And thank goodness they’re not a bunch of scaredy-cats freaking out over every zombie. That would be annoying.
+ Levels are lots of fun. Most are pretty unique from each other while the gameplay stays pretty much the same. “No Mercy” was personally my favourite just for the hospital part. That had a killer atmosphere to it, lemme tell you.
+ Combat… who doesn’t love shooting zombies, more zombies, and then even more zombies? All the guns feel good and are unique to each other, special weapons like the pipe bomb and Molotov are a blast to use (see what I did there?), and just the feeling of mowing down hundreds of zombies at a time is awesome.
+ Multiplayer is lots of fun. Playing online can be a blast. This is helped by the vast different amount of community servers and mods this game has.
+- Difficulty is alright. Even on normal difficulty though the game can be hard. Make sure you work as a team to get things done. I did have to change the difficulty down from “normal” to “easy” on the final level to beat it but I guess that’s understandable. There are also no checkpoints for levels, but, 90% of the time, you won’t die if you know what you’re doing.
Overall quality of experience: 9/10. I Really Liked this game. This game is awesome for one reason: there’s no gimmick to it. It’s just shooting zombies. That’s it. Now, that does mean that this game won’t be for everyone due to the extreme simplicity of it (I even met someone at my job that said they hated the game). Overall, though, if you want something that is fun, simple, addicting, and has great multiplayer, get this game… and its sequel too. Review for “Left for Dead 2” coming out next.
A great predecessor to the widely known Left 4 Dead 2, started the franchise off well and introduced a ton of core gameplay mechanics and has hundreds of hours of gameplay packed into this 7.5 GB game.
A must-play for zombie video game enjoyers, it'd be surprising if you haven't already.
