Not as good as l4d2 but still extremely fun, great mechanic's, Great character's and just a really good game, if you like spooky and survival games, this is the game.

Good old fashioned zombie shooting game. I used to play this with my brothers and now 10ish years later we are back at it having fun again

I decided to try this part after finishing the second one, as for me it is not worse and they are slightly different. Firstly, in this version there are no melee weapons, which will make life difficult if you run out of ammo, and also this game has a darker atmosphere.

campaigns are short, you just run through everyone and finish the level other than that it's a solid game with nice 2008 graphics

bought l4d2 and then bought this cause it had a 90% discount and its very good! good for low end computers and the survivors are iconic. i highly reccomend getting this!

Love the feel of this game VS L4D2, as this one is more serious and scary than funny and goofy.

Teamwork needed.... but its the best coop Zombie game ive played..... theres coop and 4v4... in 4v4, two teams take turns being the zombies and the survivors.,... IF you have a few guys that are good and you trust... you'll have a BALL!! In PvP, each map is played twice,,,, so you'll have to attack and defend before ,moving on.... I can give you 2 bits of advice.... 1. in the first map, where youre running thru the office on your way to the rooftop to catch the helicopter for extraction. If your attacking, you'll start with 2 hunters, 1 Boomer, and a tongue dude...If your'e attacking, try NOT to kill the boomer, as the attackers will sqawn a 3rd Hunter.... If youre defending (zombies), and your the boomer, run as fast as he can run down to the survivors and get killed, while your teammates go to the roof.... Your team (Zombies) will now have a smoker (the tongue dude), and 3!! Hunters.... the next step is to take up position on the roof.... then as the survivors climb the ladder to the roof,,,, When the first survivor comes up, Your Smoker should be on a roof (your already on the roof of the skyscraper but you'll see where you can stand so you have a clear view or the hole you came out of from the ladder, but you need to be able to pull him off the higher levels on the roof, so you'll pull him off, making him neutralized.... and when the next survivor pops his head up, or let him climb to the roof... THE POUNCE your first hunter, when the next one comes up, pounce, the last one???? POUNCE with your 3rd hunter...... Then sit back and absorb all that sweet sweet hate theyll give you, and show your teammates the L337 way to beat that round....... there's one other thing, but I'm keeping that secret to myself....

HINT: There's a way to make your Hunter invisible, silet, and there's no charge time for your pounce...as you'll already be in the sneak position,,,, but makeing no sound, invisible, insta-pounce,

Great co-op zombie shooter! If you’re only buying one of the left 4 dead games, buy left 4 dead 2 first as it has more content and workshop support and it also has all the stuff from left 4 dead 1.

holds up really well for a game made in 2008, and its still has an active playerbase

There IS some purpose in buying Left 4 Dead despite L4D2 containing all of L4D's content. This game plays differently due to the lack of melee weapons and missing 3 of L4D2's exclusive special infected - Chargers, Spitters, and Jockeys. This means you'll be encountering plenty of Boomers, Hunters, and Smokers, and you won't be able to slice and bludgeon your way through hordes. There's also no magnum pistol, so akimbo light pistols is the strongest secondary. There's also just fewer guns, so you'll be using the same weapons pretty consistently, especially near the end of campaigns. None of this is particularly bad; it's just a less complete experience, but it's a very consistent one. More pressure is put on you by the Common Infected and managing your ammo rather than the full cast of specials and weapons in the second game.

If you already own L4D2, you can buy this game for a wee $0.74 USD whenever it's on sale by going for the bundle of the two games. You have enough time for one or two campaigns before your refund window of 2 hours is gone, and you may find you prefer keeping this, but if not, you can get your quarters back. I've paid more for less, and this game is still fun, so I don't really care that it's roughly equivalent to L4D2.

A very solid game. The sequel kind of makes it unnecessary but why not pick it up when its on sale?

Chances are there is, quite literally, no reason for you to buy this game.

All of the content from this game has been ported into Left For Dead 2. That game seems to always be priced the same as this one, whether full price or when there's a sale going on.

Boiling it down, you basically have three options. You can just buy Left for Dead 2, and get the full experience. You can spend twice as much money buying both games, and get the identical full experience. Or you can just buy this game, and get a partial experience (but not any of the Left For Dead 2 exclusive content).

Look, in the past, I get that it made sense to sell both games separately. And I'm sure there are probably fringe cases for why a small sliver of folks may want the original Left For Dead content packaged up in such a way that it's completely isolated from later content. But unless you *really* know what you're doing, chances are you're only here because Valve is betting on you not reading the fine print and realizing that this game is simply a waste of money for the vast majority of people tempted to buy it in the year of our lord [insert year here]

L4D1 is more interesting because the Common Infected are the main enemy and the whole game has been pretty much designed around them- unlike in L4D2 where one could consider the main enemies to be the Special Infected instead as they've been each designed against everything the player(s) could do in L4D1.

Because of this it's more satisfying to work efficiently with other players in here as positioning is more important against every horde, event, finale or even moving past the levels.

Amazing game one of my favourites, I have it on Xbox and it runs smooth but on here it's unplayable as it keeps crashing as soon as i load into a campaign. There's not really any reason to play this either as left for dead 2 has all of the maps from this one as well as better graphics, more guns and melee weapons, more variety of common infected and a few other things left for dead 2 has overall become my new go to

It lacks the variety l4d2 has in regards to weapons(especially meele) and special infected but the atmosphere is unmatched.
Definitely worth checking out even after playing loads of l4d2.

The game that birthed it's own sub-genre, and is STILL the best co-op horde shooter ever made, 17 years later. Left 4 Dead is a timeless classic and must play shooter for any fan of the genre.

I only play on singleplayer and it is not possible to beat "The Sacrifice" campaign on singleplayer so if you play on singleplayer, I'd recommend if you have molotov, do the last generator that is closest to the bridge.

I can't say I fully understand the hype for this game. It's not bad, it's just ok. A small weapon variety (WAAAY smaller than "Killing Floor", which came out the following year), ok graphics, meh characters who aren't that memorable, and a heavy reliance on other players, and as a more solo guy, it doesn't do a lot for me.
This game DOES have creative special zombies, although I can't understand why you slow down while taking damage.
I got LFD 1 and 2 for like, a buck 50 a while back, and have heard the sequel is better. I maybe give this title a 7.9/10.

Been a huge fan of the L4D games, my opinion can be considered as biased, but i grew up on L4D and L4D2. So overall love it, if anyone wants an old-school type like zombie game, this is for you.

The best multiplayer co-op game ever made, period. You can play with friends of every level of competency in FPS and everybody will have fun.

I would recommend buying it when it goes on sale other than that buy the 2nd game it has all the content in the first game and more but still a really good game.
