All the negative comments are from people that are mad that this isnt a left 4 dead 3.
The critzism from the Left 4 Dead 2 community is genrally justified but it doesnt justify giving the game mixed reviews.
Critizing the missing main mode from Left 4 Dead 2 is valid critizism but it doesnt mean the entire game is bad. And making the general game look like trash simply because you are grumpy about a single missing game mode or a diffrent style is just retarded.
The game gets way to much hate, the toxic left 4 dead 2 community response to the game undeserveingly ruined the public opinion of the game and therefor the general sucess.

If you ignore all the grumpy Left 4 Dead fanboys the comments will be quite positive and if you look at the game itslef its actually really good, the Card system lets you choose 15 out of 100 cards making a lot of builds possible which adds replayability. The graphics are good without any real impact on performance, the game runs very well even on older hardware.

I would reccomend buying the game at a discount simply because you get it for 3 bucks and the game plus all DLC for 9.

I bought it for less than 5 bucks in the winter sale, which is a good price for it.

The only three main issues, which the first one makes up like 90% of the issues

-The bots are awful and cannot be removed. You are forced to play with the most awful ally AI I've ever seen. They take no heed of your character - they throw molotovs at you, they heal you when youre missing 1 hp, they run infront of you every three second when you fire. It's awful. That alone was one of the reasons. They are okay when they give you ammo or ping stuff. But thats it.

- The pacing feels off. L4D had insanely good pacing. I dont know how to fix it, but B4B feels too rushed in some points. Base stamina being this low and being require for pushing, melee, bow and sprinting is crazy. It's too slow to run away from enemies yet when theres horde after horde it continues to feel like the level is too fast.

- Changing a weapon hardly matters because you cant actually detach attachments, making your fully kitted grey gun much better than the random legendary. Also weapon balance is awful. Half the weapons are not just bad, they're downright awful. And the worst, it doesnt even show the firerate or ammo on guns, but shows stats like handling and mobility rather. Guns like the Scar, the 3 bullet shotgun and the bolt action snipers are awful. The scar is too slow for too little damage. The 3 round shotgun takes too long to chamber a new round. The snipers are all too slow for huge waves unless you get the very special piercethrough addon.. but even then it's just still worse. It's not even that good against bosses since the DPS is roughly the same compared to a full auto machinegun going off at a boss.

This is a very mellow 6.5/10 but with friends and for like 5 bucks it's okay.

Even at 3 dollars on sale, please don't buy this game. I was actually excited and wanted to give it a shot because I love Left 4 Dead. This game is awful. There are some people saying "this game isn't that bad, most over hated game ever!" They are probably not lying, but I think these people have never played Left 4 Dead. I listened to those positive reviews and very quickly regretted it. I can't express how even only losing three dollars, I am still disappointed and feel ripped off.

Here are some quick reasons not to play (if you were hoping for a L4D like experience.)
-slow gameplay
-special infected are not very threatening, and rarely grab you
-bullet sponge special infected
-even on higher difficulty, the game is very easy, L4D2 easy mode feels harder than B4B "veteran" mode
-seemingly no reason to stick together
-music is soleless and does not hold a candle to L4D2's brilliant soundtrack
-ZERO interesting dialogue interactions; every character feels like they're in their own head exclusively, only delivering quick extremely annoying quips that repeat very often. If you like L4D characters talking to each other and having silly, antagonistic, or heartwarming moments, you will not be getting any of that in this game.

You could say, "um, yeah, it's not Left 4 Dead, so why did you buy it expecting it to be?" It's called BACK 4 BLOOD, and their main selling point was "MADE BY LEFT 4 DEAD DEVS." (Which by the way is partly true, but mostly a lie.)

Anyways. Here are some reasons you may enjoy the game if you have never played Left 4 Dead and have no expectations of it being Left 4 Dead. (But really, you should just buy Left 4 Dead on sale. But I won't tell you where to spend your money.)
-Cutscenes are kinda cool
-Interesting storyline
-Lots of really cool guns, attachments, melee weapons
-Gunplay is clean
-Cool character designs, free unlockable cosmetics
-Voice actors are good

haters are blinded by nostalgia view this game as a generic zombie shooter its fun definitely worth it on sale.

Shining example of a good game that could have been great. If you take Back 4 Blood as it is. The game truly is fun. I’ve seen some reviews on here stating, this game is no Left 4 Dead. Which is very accurate. But look beyond that and what you’ll find is a good game with plenty of charm. Here’s to hoping that the very likely sequel will have the Dev team go all out, and give us something truly great.

For 7 bucks it's pretty aight, the card system adds a bit more depth to every run and the corrupted card modifiers make them more unique, this more of a pseudo-roguelite FPS Horde Shooter, treating it as if it were the next Left 4 Dead will only ruin it for yourself.

It could've had a chance had it released for 30 bucks and didn't sell itself as a L4D Successor.

It's a fun co-op game to shoot zombies mindlessly on lower difficulties. Level design is similar to L4D2 but that's about it.

The issues that I could say are game functionalities are not as perfect as L4D, the bots have tendency to stand in front of the host player which is a hindrance when shooting and there are some zombie models that don't look like buffed/mutated humanoids, which takes you out of the experience at first.

definitely worth it for £2 in sale, ignore all the card trash that nobody asked for, core game play is actually alright, custom difficulty would have been nice

Game feels like what a zombie game should feel and it could be better to have more campaigns since none of my friends have the game to play and rather then to play with random people who are just afk or doing the exact opposite would be ruining the fun.

Back 4 Blood seems to be one of the greatest modern instalments for various reasons, most of all because of the franchise it represents, as the third and final instalment of the Left 4 Dead series, which is the most prominent zombie-esque franchise, with Left 4 Dead 2 being one of the most prominent titles of all time. The mechanics are well made and fast-paced, it has a story campaign but at the same time it is integrated into the gameplay like the other Left 4 Dead, instead of interrupting with cutscenes and such, it only has a few when needed like introduction and endings, The setting with the urban contemporary environment and fighting powerful enemies is one of the greatest strenghts of this and the genre as a whole as it kind of alludes to the popular urban fantasy series like Smallvile, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries and such. And it also has a great range of characters with their own unique personalities and dialogues, it was truly the best way to complete the Left 4 Dead trilogy.

This game feels like a new game, the graphics is fine, I like the new experience of crisp when killing the zombies but I find it funny the new ogre boss is kinda buggy, staying on high areas will pretty much make him a stationary target, you can just chill without taking a damage, also wtf. is he even throwing?? spaghetti meat balls?? should we cook spaghetti after he throw the meatball??? l did laugh seeing the Ogre throwing such projectile instead of concrete slab just like the Tank back on L4D1-L4D2 but the only good thing that the Ogre boss possess is pretty much having a superior beefy HP, which is way more superior than the Tank has on L4D1-L4D2, the Ogre damage is pretty balanced, I will give em props for that, imma also add that it is sucks that the devs. removed the shoving feature, which is one of the best features implemented on it's predecessor L4D1-L4D2, I also noticed that the boomer is now stronger, which is good to see but what in the hey hey hell that they nerfed the charger so badly, now the charger is now a complete joke, a hammer piece of joke lfmao, the rest of the infected is pretty much fine I guess, no custom maps = it sucks, w-what does the card system even does?? it doesn't make anysense lol, Imma rate this game 5/10, at least it did improved a lot ever since the beta release of this game but honesty for pete sake there are many missing features on this game that should be integrated back on L4D1-L4D2, those features should be on this game since this game is branded as "partially a L4D the series sequel"

Back then when I played this game there wasn't really much content for infected, not many characters, and only one campaign mode. Came back to try it again, which I'm quite impressed with how much there is to do in this now. I even got the expansions for it, which add much more to this Left 4 Dead like game. Though I wish there was more customization with characters, it does deliver a few more bosses, and more interesting infected to face off against.

Went into this expecting a worse, soulless L4D clone as described by many reviews.

The game is actually fun though, gunplay is nice, graphics are good and the gameplay loop is similar to L4D.
The cards system gives a nice twist on the formula imo.
Story/writing/voice acting wise it's obviously not close to a Valve game, big surprise there.
(In fact, the voice acting of some characters is downright goofy and cringy so you'll have to bite through that).

I got it for about 3 bucks and i decided to get the DLC too for another 3, for these prices the game is a steal.

It's also a perfect Steam Deck title!

Is Back 4 Blood dead when trying to play with randoms? Yes. But it doesn't mean that the game is boring or bad. Buy it on sale and get some friends to hop in and enjoy the experience of killing zombies and giant bosses. I honestly don't remember the last time I screamed so much to ask for help to my friends on a game.

Game is pretty good if you ignore the fact that that the developers tried to sell this as Left 4 Dead 3, it totally isn't, it plays like a mix between Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead which is a good thing for me, grab it at a discount, and yes it has an active playerbase.

Map designs suck, too many small sections per run for mostly very simple objectives. Huge difficulty balancing issues as veteran is way too easy even for solo players, haven't tried harder difficulties with friends but solo on nightmare or above is just lame, especially that one stage where an Ogre is scripted to spawn right outside of the spawn with nowhere to run

Fantastic gun physics. It reminds me more of COD Zombies back in the day rather than Left 4 Dead, but the hate is straight up not warranted. Call out the marketing, fine, but the game itself is extremely fun and replayable. It has progression that is not loaded to the teeth with predatory microtransactions, like most live service dumpster fires. People will give a polished and fun game like this a bad review for not releasing predatory live service updates, but then lap up slop that is generic and with a seemingly unlimited flow of generic garbage made by a bunch talentless freaks sold at ridiculous prices, just because they made a game.. and it wont even run half the time. Most industries nowadays honestly.

Barley worth the 95% reduced price tag.

I wrote a whole review outlining whats wrong with this game and then realised. whats the point. people praise a game that literally plays and looks like every other first person shooter now. stupid cosmetics. silly card systems. An enemy that is so boring i just remember red mist as i sprayed my way through the boring levels.

broken spawning system, forgettable special "ridden" lol what kind of a name is ridden seriously?. and bosses that i just literally shrugged my shoulders at.
This is a run and gun call of duty arcade game with no substance and no depth. even dead army 4 copied the left 4 dead formula and did it better. left 4 dead holds up against this game and that came out in 2008. all these advances in technology, processing speeds and graphics. yet somehow a 2008 game is better than this!!.

The developers already run off to the next project, they made the money they wanted and ditched this game.

So in my short play through. i had specials getting stuck on walls. "ridden"...lol ridden, i had ridden running in place facing the wrong direction. bots throwing molotovs everywhere at everything. And specials spawning either miles behind or miles ahead. how much more of a mess do you want for a game?. And that's only 2 hours of playtime, im sure ill find plenty more if i played longer.

I know a quick cash grab when i see one. they called it "back 4 blood" basically labelled it as left 4 dead 3 without quite calling it left 4 dead 3. i wasted enough time with it.

This game is a blast! I haven't played L4D for decades, but this one brings back memories of it. Not sure why some people don't like it. From my point of view B4B is good successor. Don't overthink and don't mind negative reviews buy it - you wont regret.

Game is a lot of fun. I had my eye on it since 2021 but couldn't justify paying the full price tag. Now that I have a powerful computer and got the game for 95% off, it was good decision.

The corruption cards make the maps interesting and different every time you play.


If you want the DLC (whiich you should get because the content is worth), buy the Deluxe version as it includes it all. I recommend the ultimate version as you get the best character skins in the game.

Back 4 Blood is a really good game but as „Back 4 Blood”, not as a sequel to „L4D2”. It is a separate and independent game and it is not L4D3. That is why the game is so criticized because people who play it want to see L4D3, unfortunately it is not that game. The game has different assumptions than L4D 1/2. When it comes to the plot and characters, I think they are interesting, of course it is not a game that is supposed to focus on the plot, but I still think that the plot is interesting, and the characters are also well presented, so I have nothing to complain about here. The game is well optimized, so there are no bugs or problems. The only thing I don't like about this game is the fact that there's practically nothing to do in it apart from the campaign, although there is another game mode there, but what was the strong point of L4D 1/2 were the different game modes, and here there's none of that, but like I said, you can't look at it as L4D 1/2, so as a game "other than L4D". I think the game defends itself quite well, but you can still see a definite lack of content in the game. The combat system and weapons are also nicely done and I really like them. I think they were done better than in L4D 1/2, but that's my personal opinion. I highly recommend the game and it's worth playing, I don't regret the time invested in it. The strong point of this game is cooperation with other players (it is best to play with friends + „Discord” for communication) because that is when the game shows its full potential and possibilities, and they are big. You can play for a long time because the campaign is quite long, and you can always play with other characters and other weapons. In my review you can notice one thing, namely that I did not write anything about this strange system of upgrades with cards. I did it on purpose because I do not understand it myself because the system is completely non-intuitive and not clear. I actually do not understand it so that is why I did not talk about it but there is something like that in the game and it is a huge disadvantage of this game for me but it can be somehow managed with a team of friends.

…and one more thing (important) I do not advise treating this game only for playing alone (solo) because the game loses its charm. If you don’t have anyone to play with then look for it on the forum or something because playing this game as a „singleplayer campaign” kills this game. I know something about this because I had a problem with it myself and I played it both ways. In reality only cooperation gives charm to this game and without it the game is boring and empty.

That's why you should not believe all the steam reviews .. This game is pretty good for its price.. Grab it at 95% discount.. Trust me it's worth it

At time of posting this game is 3 dollars, 7$ with dlc (dont listen to the deluxe price its over priced for some reason by 2 dollars, you can get the main game and the pass for 3$ and 4$ respectfully)

This game is super worth that price. No its not the left 4 dead you played in highschool but it is a fun co op game to play with friends and again, its 3$ right now, if you got friend to play it with, pick it up.

here's how to maximize enjoyment out of this game:
1) uninstall and refund
2) play L4D2 instead
3) download high quality mods and enjoy for years

Genuinely just kind of an annoying experience. There's a bunch of obtuse statistics attached to everything and the card system is needlessly complicated and the audio mixing is god awful. It's utter slop, don't bother even for three bucks.

A somewhat overlooked (and overhated) gem that allows you to have fun zombie clearing runs with friends, but also get a bit into the deck-building / gradual strategy iteration solo without min-maxing too hard and optimizing the fun out of it. And all that without any predatory monetization / gambling!

Probably one of the most over-hated games of all time. Had a lot of fun playing with friends. Buy it when it goes on sale.

Fun game, don't buy it at full price. Incredibly worth to get Ultimate Edition for only $10 when it goes on sale. Fun with friends.

Left4dead 2 was released in 2009 so why is an updated version released 11 years later inferior with an massively inferior player base?
They didn't open the game up to modders. it's that simple.....

I got about 90 hours of enjoyment out of this game, at which point I hit the barrier of repetition losing my engagement. For me, this is not worth $60, but I got it for under $10 which it definitely is worth. I’d feel good having paid $30, but no more.
This game is very good at gross out / body horror. I’d say that’s its stand out feature. The gunplay is fun, but not outstanding. The melee combat is flat and stale, but buffed to make it necessary to rely on in some contexts, which feels bad when you just want to snipe.
The writing is cringey and trying to be funny, which does not work for me because the context is so dark. Even if the jokes landed, they would feel like they’re undermining the tone. As it is, it's just cringey and bad. But you can skip all cutscenes immediately and the dialogue never gets in the way of gameplay so it doesn't ruin anything else. Level design is mostly good, appropriately confusing for added stress and only occasionally because it's bad.
I've experienced two frustrating bugs, only once each: the grappler monster catching two nearby players in the animation instead of just one, then sort of teleporting between them before one player is released prematurely, I guess as it decides on which player to hold; and dropping down from the cab of a truck triggering the ‘hanging off a cliff’ version of needing teammate help even though the truck bed was right below me, and I'd just used it to climb onto the cab. For a game with so much going on I'd say this is a pretty low rate of bugs ruining things.

The game is still bad. Ironically, watching reviews and critical breakdowns of the game made me want to give the game another chance. I played a single level and still found it to be the same disappointing game. Somehow the game is even worse than when I first played through the base game. I upgraded my graphics card since I last played a few years ago and I found my PC struggling to play the game at a consistent frame rate, and even freezing to the point that I needed task manager to close it. This was with the exact same settings I had previously played the game on, so I'm dumbfounded. Even after turning settings lower the issue continued. Its also still got the same balancing issues its had since launch where the game goes from super duper easy to suddenly being swarmed by special zombies spawning in multiples.
Trash game and I don't recommend it. I will one day pass with my only regret in life being that I bought the ultimate edition only for the game to be so terrible that I barely touched any of the DLC content.

Not recommending this game not because of the biased "this is not L4D" reason but purely because the game has been abandoned, thus no more future content updates. I would recommend it when it's on sale though.

The mistake the devs made when the game first released was that they said this game was a successor for the L4D series or "better" than it. So far the only similarities I have seen when playing the game is it being a zombie shooter and it having special zombies but even then the zombie shooter genre of games is already a popular thing so they should have not advertised it with L4D series in mind, it could have been advertised as another great zombie shooter game. This lead to so many players going into the game purely to compare the two games and it was not good at all with that disaster of a release.

the game is Bad, boring, empty and has no atmosphere, Extremely bad and cringe characters, not to mention the game feels and plays like an uncompleted beta game.

Very much like L4D. The weapons feel great. The deck system could use a bit of expansion but otherwise is a simple but effective way to change up how the game is played.

Why negative?
- The developer had already abandoned the game.
- Every time I launch the game, my PC gets freeze or restarted. Only this game had the problem (Core i7 13700k - RTX 3090Ti - 64GB RAM). I searched the issue and saw it involved EAC, that is the thing that never works. And the last update of this game includes EAC, don't know what changed to it.
Comeback from a long time offline, and can't play the game. The funny thing is got this game at full price, and now how it "works". Well, at least got something to decorate my library.

I really tried to consider this game as independent of Left 4 Dead.
And I assumed that this game is not a copy. (Which it is)
However, I still don't like this game. The overall atmosphere of the game, the zombies, the campaign, the card system, etc.

I still prefer even one minute of Left 4 Dead to this game.

For context, I got this game and every DLC for less than 20$.

This game promised to scratch the itch Left 4 Dead gave. It did not do that. This game has everything and nothing at the same time, which makes it exhausting. It tries to be flashy and unique, but in return fails at originality. One word I would use to describe this game is "Convoluted". The cards, items, level systems, gun customization, enemies are all gamified in a certain matter, it's exhausting and unnecessary. The first boot experience is overwhelming, throwing stats at you whenever possible. The game does horribly at world building.

Just pick up Warhammer; Vermintide. That's the game they actually were trying to copy.

Fun game, with friends even better. personally, liked it more than left4dead

As you can see I've played this game for quite a bit of time. Here is my honest opinion. It is a wonderful shooter and the feel of the weapons and damage is very crisp and satisfying. The variety of levels, characters, weapons, deck builds, and enemies is enough to keep you entertained for endless hours. The game is unfortunately ruined by the toxic nature of the multiplayer functionality and here's why....
1) Quickplay option to join a game allows you to filter levels and difficulty unfortunately there's no way to know what game you are going to join or where they are in their progress.
2) There is no option to vote players out of your game. You can kick a player if they do enough friendly fire damage to down their own teammate but that is the only reason that will trigger the option. Therefore griefing is a major problem. People can join your game for the sole purpose of disrupting it in a variety of different ways like friendly fire or just stalling your teams progress because all checkpoints require you to gather the entire team in one spot. They can simply refuse to progress and there is nothing you can do about it. They can also trigger every alarm and just be a toxic person with no penalty.
3) The amount of time it takes to join a game or have anyone join your game initially is several minutes sometimes so when it drops you in a game that has failed or is moments from failing (happens quite often) you get to leave and start that timer all over again.
4) People who do eventually get to join your game are often a disappointment with a lower skill level than the automated bots you are initially paired with but guess what.... nothing you can do about that either you're stuck with them.

They made the game's name a direct reference to Left 4 Dead... yet they left out all the fun of Left 4 Dead, condemned modding the game, and abandoned the game.

Maybe 90% off is an okay price, but I got it for full price and it was a complete ripoff. This game sucks.

Absolutely not L4D3, dont expect similar gameplay or anything. They share the theme but not the gameplay.
But absolutely stands on its own and is well worth the money when discounted. Good cathartic "mow zombies down by dozen" co-op fun

The damn anti cheat always block me from the server for no reason. I bought this damn game for playing with my friends, but this stupid anti cheat ruined all the experience. DO NOT BUY IT if you worries about cannot play online game or play with your friend.

I found this game good, comparing to L4D2, it similiar but this one has better system like card perks etc. Survivors has different perks and affect the team as well. Well I have no idea why people complaining about this.
