Not like vampire / magical / demon stuffs sorry - I prefer regular zombie stuffs.
the puzzles are too difficult to understsand.
Gunplays are not satisfactory for me.
Yeah, I'm still waiting for the African Costume Pack!
The game is reminiscent to the old RE games, where is a memory and puzzle game first and a combat game second. Combat and movement is cumbersome, item management makes the game a touch slower but calls back to the old RE style room revisits. The puzzles are quite fun up to the pyramid puzzle, which is so nonsensical, I would recommend looking up a video for the answer to keep your opinion of the game better.
It brings me back to RE. Almost same controls and everything
10/10 Will play again.
Like Classic RE2 and reMake. You can play Over the Sholder or Tank controls. Very nice game that remenace Resident Evil.
we need more weapons in this game for example magnum and M16 Rifle or other weapon such as Heckler & Koch MP5
Sideways Thumb.
There is plenty of terrible shovelware on Steam of very short Resident Evil inspired horror games, but this one appears to be a proper length game that gets most of the basics right, it is fun here and there.
I ended up dropping it when I made it to the garden section outside of the mansion. Why would every gate be locked by different coloured thingies, very unimaginative and generic key/door system out here. It was at least fathomable that inside the mansion that you had different keys for different doors. It's not just this though, the game could use more impressive set peices. There is no real method of defense when fighting tankier enemies (like the miniboss in the garden), give me a dodge or something so I'm not just running away.
I was having a lot more fun inside the mansion.
This is one of the better indie Resident Evil clones, thus the sideways thumb and mixed feelings, but it's still far from great and I would rec Tormented Souls over this as a poor mans, indie Resident Evil any day.
Had a fun time with this game.
I really wanted to like this game, and I will say the beginning started of really strong. The first 4-5 hours of the game in the Mansion are really solid and I have no issues there. The Mansion is well designed and easy to navigate, most of the puzzles there are decent and only a couple of instances of that weird sense of collecting items and having no idea what to do with them.
The game starts to fall apart for me after that. While I did like the inclusion of new enemy types to help out with variety, the puzzles became way more obtuse and there were several instances of me running around with no new items and no new path all because I missed some random door and had to kill a certain enemy in a room where to that point killing enemies had been optional ala old Resident Evil.
The Outdoor sections were also more confusing to navigate and suddenly I found myself having to use the map for simple exploration way more than I did with the mansion. They also introduced some puzzles in the outdoor sections that felt very unnatural to solve and I couldn't get the logic behind the puzzle. A difficult puzzle like the Silent Hill 1 Piano Puzzle or Silent Hill 3 Shakespeare puzzle is 100% ok! The puzzle needs to make sense though and I wonder how some people figured out certain puzzles.
While I found the second half of the game really weak, I will acknowledge the strong points. I mentioned the Mansion and it is definitely a strong point of the game and felt really solid. I'm also going to say that I loved how meaty some of the weapons felt. Shooting an enemy with the shotgun point blank and watching them fly down the hall felt so good. Also the addition of random body parts falling off with other weapons made them feel like they have some good impact. I do wish there was some more explanation for the story as it felt nonexistent and they had some good set-up with Alicia's past, it ended very oddly and also would have been ok spending more time with both Alicia and Paul to see them work together after they meet.
I also compliment the idea of multiple camera perspectives like Fixed, 3rd person, and FPS, and the option of tank and 3D controls to help complement all styles of gameplay.
Overall, I'd say Them and Us is a 5/10 or 6/10 game. It may be worth a try but there are some decent issues. There's some solid effort and great ideas but I would hope if the developers make another game they take some solid lessons from Them and Us.
Are you looking for a Resident Evil game that's 2/3rds the price and made with 1/20th the budget? Well, look no further. It runs awful, the story is non-existent, the combat is boring, and the puzzles are... puzzles, I guess.
This game is only for the most dedicated problem solvers. Puzzles are easy, but doing simple tasks like looking at all the case evedence for some reason requires you to turn on the radio or none of the stuff can be interacted with. Also, the indecation of what is interactable is frequently not showing up. Combat: Monsters are bullet spunges. Sound is looping, and terable. Music is ok. Thunder storms sound good. I want to choke the bird sound that playes every second on loop... the entire game while out side!
Overall 9/10
My only complaints are trying to remember where key items need to go and wish the qol of re2 remake was present which would show what door needed what key and what item was needed to complete a puzzle. Another is a got a few crashes which made me loss a good bit of progress each time though luckily it wasn't to bad. My last complaint is I feel the early game has a bit to much zombies to deal with and there is hardly any ammo to deal with them though by the time I got to late game I had to much ammo even though I killed most enemies, Other than that, the game was pretty solid and had a good story to go with it and appreciate all the resident evil easter eggs present in the game as I think I recognized every single one.
A huge mansion, scarce resources and zombies. Sounds like Resident Evil and this game is heavily inspired by it. But "Them and us" git it's own charme and style while you're steering Alice through the infested house on your search for her daughter and her sanity, even maybe her innocence.
The game allows you to choose in between two types of POV, either the fixed camera angle (tank controls) or the FPS-styled over-the-shoulder dynamic camera. A very clever as well as cool feature. Difficulty settings, good graphics, a nice musical score add to the fun.
The frames could be optimized a bit and the inventory management is somewhat outdated, but the game itself is great for survival-horror fans and of course for all who love Resident Evil and zombies. This is fun!
This game definitely understood the assignment. If you're a survival horror fan you should definitely check it out. However, it IS an indie game, so it's pretty rough around the edges and you'll probably need to use a walkthrough to avoid walking in circles endlessly.
The level design in particular is more of a nuisance than anything else. I get what they were trying to do, but it just doesn't work. In a survival horror or metroidvania style game the map feels rewarding and it makes sense. But in this game, the "keys" are usually super cryptic and not obvious at all. Many times you will find yourself with an item that you have no idea what it's used for or why you even picked it up. And the maps don't connect (meaning depending on what area you're in that's the only map you'll be able to see). All these types of games have that a little bit, but in this game because of the map design it's just frustrating more than anything else.
Overall it's worth playing through at least once, but you may have to resort to using a walkthrough to avoid walking endlessly in circles, the puzzles/keys just aren't intuitive enough. It does more right than it does wrong though, and it's impressive considering it was basically made by two people.
Bottom line: If you're not a survival horror fan, it may not appeal to you. Survival horror fans should at least play through this once. I actually may play it again (you can play over the shoulder, fixed camera, or first person) a few years from now around Halloween or something.
I am a sucker for survival horror games and this game definitely delivered. You'll get zombies, a creepy mansion, story delivered mainly through notes and a shotgun.
The biggest differentiator from similar games is the ability to play in classic fixed camera, 3rd person and 1st person and also extra endings you can only get on repeated playthroughs.
This is also my buggest gripe with the game - the first playthrough features too many locked doors, an alternative dimension and story concepts that don't get resolved during that first playthrough and will confuse new players. Also the shotgun has way too long recovery animation, making it hard to hit certain enemies without getting hit in return.
The puzzles are on the easy side, the challenge is more in figuring out where to go rather than what to input there.
The game works well on the Deck, with some noticeable frame drops.
If you love REmake, RE4 or Tormented Souls, buy this.
Great game if you crave old school survival horror. Think Resident Evil (1996) on a lower budget with a modern presentation. In addition to the tank controls, you can also play the game 3rd person over the shoulder.
Maze like opening level with locked doors requiring specific keys that you will come across later. Decent ‘zombie’ variety with good combat. Headshots and kneecapping are rewarded.
I found the puzzles a little difficult and the back tracking was overly done, but I still enjoyed the game.
I had no performance issues on my 4080 at 4K.
Tries to be a classic survival horror game, but in every regard, just doesn't quite land the mark: controls, atmosphere, puzzle design, etc. all feel lackluster, and none of it adds up to a great experience.
Nice little throwback to survival horror games, if your into survival horror its worth a go
This game is a love letter to classic Resident Evil fans. To progress through the game, you need to solve little riddles and find key items that grant you access to new areas, in a similar fashion to pure survival horror Resident Evil titles. This is, in my opinion, the best aspect of this game, and I especially appreciated the first indoor area, which reminded me of the iconic Spencer mansion, both in terms of setting and exploration.
Upon starting a new game, besides the difficulty settings, you will be asked to choose one of the three camera modes: fixed camera, over-the-shoulder third person camera and first person camera. I beat the game with the traditional fixed camera setting, but the presence of other perspectives will certainly be a valid excuse for further playthroughs.
Other survival horror elements include limited inventory space, limited resources, option to run past enemies to save ammo, item storage box, limited saves.
I'd rather not spoil anything, but I found the "typewriters" of this game a genuinely creative idea.
You can also drop items on the ground and pick them up later. It is interesting to see how they actually made this process nice and fluid, unlike Resident Evil 0.
There are a few minor hiccups here and there: the title screen and the pause and settings menus are very rudimental (ugly text on a background) and they might not reflect the passion and commitment the developers put into the game; don't be tricked into thinking that it's a bad game because of that.
I also found the "fixed moving" camera quite confusing in open spaces (Yes, the fixed camera actually follows you around, more like Code Veronica than the classical trilogy, where it is firmly fixed).
Aiming up and down is quite counterintuitive, especially when enemies are higher or lower than you. Shooting up or down enemies on the stairs is not always succesful and bullets sometimes miss when they shouldn't.
Overall, I recommend this game to anyone who misses old-school survival horror games. It doesn't always shine with originality, but I do not think that was the priority anyway. Them and us is a nod to the golden days of survival horror, and the quality of its atmosphere, environmental music, level design, puzzles and exploration will make for an unforgettable adventure.
I think this game is good, but a little amateurish across the board. Still, that is not to belittle the achievement here at all.
Sometimes one person's endeavours, though a noble and voluminous effort, still begs the question: was it worth it?
I really appreciate the fact that the game was made practically by one person, I appreciate his labour, his creative passion and aspirations. And with all this I will be strict in my evaluation.
The game starts off as a great budget clone of one of my all-time favourite series (should I bring up the obvious? I think you understand perfectly well what series of games we are talking about). Immediately you can feel the rough edges, but also at the same time a deep understanding of the basic mechanics of the genre. The real serious problems come out a bit later, when you leave the mansion in the story. The level design starts off just awful, the amount of backtracking sucks all the fun out of the game. This is a critical point for the whole foundation of the game. It's not so much the rather weak combat and movement that's a tribute to the genre's origins, but the fact that the game forces you to run around for far too long, and that's enough to knock you out of its rhythm, to make it a burden, to make getting through it a chore and not a matter of enjoyment.
I hope that in the future, if the creator does not lose steam, he will take into account these nuances, because the project has potential, but this is the classic case when less is better.
Fans of the genre is recommended only if there are no more interesting alternatives, the rest of the players will not be suitable.
Look man. I liked your game BUUUUUT YOU NEED TO WORK ON HIT BOX DESIGNS ON YOUR GAME ENGNE FRAMEWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SERIOUSLY I THINK YOUR GAME IS REALLY CAPTURING THE VIBES OF OLD RESITITLES AND OLD SCHOOL SURVIVAL HORROR TITLES WITH FIXED ANGLES. MY BIGGEST CONCERN ABOUT THE GAME IS ITS LENGTH: I THINK IT GOES A BIT TOO MUCH ON PUZZLE SOLVING AND SHOOTING ZOMBIES ON HEADS:DBUT WITHOUT THEM ;THEREWILLLBENO US:)
The game is fun. Had controller troubles using my PS2 gamepad but maybe it had to do with my settings. Joystick was reversed down forward up backward. And in 1st person it was completely screwed, left for forward right backward or something like that. Unusable, I use the keyboard...
I haven't finish it yet, in fact i am at the start but it is pretty nice game, it takes me back in the RE1.2.3 golden days.
