I'd recommend this as a fun co-op shooter to play with a friend. I do not recommend this as an RE title, as it's pretty much a straight 3rd person action game, removing all the horror elements, not too dissimilar to Dead Space 3. Fun yes, but I don't see it as a true RE game.
Chris Redfield and Sheva whatever her last name goes to africa and commit massive genocide and leaves with no elaboration. I must say this is a masterpiece of a game and should be remaked soon
Well that's a good story on the next chapter. not the super best one but interesting one
One of the better co op campaign experiences on the market! The ammo and item sharing is a nice feature and I liked the idea of playing through a Resident Evil story while being able to count on at least one person I meet in a survival horror game not dying right after I meet them! If you don't have a spare copy of Army of Two: The 40th Day lying around, I'd recommend RE6. If you don't have a copy of RE6, then I'd recommend this game!
Not the standard RE formula, but more of a run and gun. Lots of action and still a few scares, just more tension and less jumpscares. A solid game, the AI is a bit dumb, but a solid shot. Give them a good gun and let them go to town. I gave Sheva the MP5 and the Rifle and she hits every shot.
Way better story than RE6 even if it's still over the top and campy, well worth sale price if nothing else.
This game is at its best with co-op. i love how i really enjoyed the game. love the story and characters
7/10 so far. ONLY GET THIS GAME WHEN IT GOES ON SALE FOR UNDER $15. Despite it not being as good as RE 1- RE 4, it still pretty fun if you're looking for a dumb action game with very little horror in it, enough to give you more of the RE lore (it's the same as Dark Souls 2 imo, not as good as the other ones but can still be fun)
I played through this game with a friend in coop. The combat is a bit dated by now as you cannot move while aiming or reloading. I think the gameplay was generally fun, although there were a few sections where I was just waiting for the other character to do what they had to do to continue. Most boss fights are gimmick fights. In fact, most of the time I just stood around waiting for my friend to do the thing he had to do in order to damage the boss. I did not care much for the story but it did get cheesy at times. Overall I am glad I experienced this part of the franchise but I will not likely revisit it any time soon. If you will be playing this, I recommend to tackle it with a friend.
Resident Evil 5 is honestly the best game to get into for those who are new to the Resident Evil series as it is more action heavy than being focused on solving puzzles without being too difficult, although some people might dislike this game for not being like the other games in the series, but i like the story it has so far.
This game can be very fun if you're playing with a friend or even solo. I recommend this game to others looking for a duo kinda game to play.
Game is really fun when you have a friend to play with, and the story is really fun. Had a great time playing with my friend.
I tested Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition on loan from the Steam family.
And what can I say at the moment?
The 5 surprisingly worked perfectly, without crashes or frame drops, the controls respond well, graphically speaking, it has aged well and is still beautiful today.
It's fun, especially if you're a Resident Evil fanatic.
The story, the characters, the monsters (or zombies, for that matter...) and the atmosphere. I'll only give my opinion soon when I complete the 5.
I bought it cheap on sale and it's worth it.
Fun janky game.
Everything worked until the last boss battle, it was glitched and couldnt die. WE counterused a glitch and the boss died.
Happy ending :D
A fun game to mess around with with a friend. Not sure I'd play it alone.
7 minutes is all I can spare to write this review.
I came from binging all the RE games and I did not play REmake 2, 3, or 4 for this. I played the OG RE2/3 and skipped 4 (sorry leon). I just wanna say. I am disappointed to learn this is the direction Capcom went with the gameplay but I'm told it kinda reverts back to the old games later on but I don't know how much I can trust on that information.
The story is as comical as it can get with Wesker. I honestly just think the downside of the game is the gameplay itself. It's not scary, its not even anywhere fun or exciting until I get to the Wesker fights. If anything, my AI partner was annoying. I will rerun this game with a friend, like they intended it to be, and I assume it'd be more fun and less annoying.
Overall, only here for the story and I don't think I was disappointed by it, aside from how they are writing Chris now (in comparison to when I last saw him in CV and RE1).
Oh, playtime's over. How fortunate for you, Capcom.
My Thrilling Journey with Resident Evil 5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recently dove into Resident Evil 5, and it was an incredible experience that I can’t stop raving about! From the moment I teamed up with Sheva, I felt an instant connection to the story and characters. The chemistry between Chris and Sheva made every challenge we faced together feel so impactful and engaging.
The visuals were absolutely stunning. I was blown away by the beautifully crafted environments, from the bustling markets of Kijuju to the eerie, shadowy landscapes. I often found myself pausing just to take in the scenery, even as the tension around me ramped up!
What really stood out for me was the co-op gameplay. Playing with a friend transformed every encounter into a shared adventure. We had to strategize, communicate, and sometimes laugh at our mishaps while battling hordes of enemies. Those moments of teamwork not only heightened the excitement but also deepened our friendship in the process.
The story kept me hooked, filled with unexpected twists that made me genuinely care about what happened next. The blend of horror and action was expertly balanced, and I found my heart racing during intense moments.
Overall, Resident Evil 5 is more than just a game; it’s a thrilling journey packed with action, strategy, and emotional depth. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure that you can enjoy with a friend. It’s an experience I’ll treasure for a long time!
Its my personal favorite game of all time and I'm Eagerly waiting for it's Remake
P.s Make the inventory system like Re 4 Remake.
Honestly, I was surprise how good this game is evern after 15 years. Ofc its not really perfect but its enjoyable playing coop .
this game is tons of fun with the coop campaign wish more RE had coop
This was actually a lot better than I expected!
I could not have played this singleplayer though so get a friend and play it multiplayer (LUKE LUKE AWOOGA)
It was more of an action game i'm ngl but very enjoyable
The bossfights were pretty fun and all different experiences
Some encounters were pretty annoying due to the large amounts of enemies
Lots of different weapons and playstyles up for offer and some optional stuff as well :)
6/10
The movement is so incredibly shit it makes it impossible to play. There are no settings for it and the mouse, turning and other movement is fucked up
Resident Evil 5 : By Triple F
Released in 2009, "Resident Evil 5" took the series in a more action-oriented direction, marking a clear departure from the atmospheric survival horror roots that defined the franchise. Set in the fictional African country of Kijuju, the game follows series veteran Chris Redfield and his new partner, Sheva Alomar, as they investigate the latest bioterror threat posed by the nefarious pharmaceutical company, Umbrella. With a focus on co-op gameplay, intense action, and a range of exotic environments, "Resident Evil 5" delivers an experience that is both exhilarating and divisive, capturing the franchise’s evolution into a more action-heavy narrative while sacrificing some of its original horror elements.
Graphically speaking, "Resident Evil 5" was groundbreaking for its time, utilizing Capcom’s MT Framework engine to bring vivid detail to every scene. The African-inspired environments like the desolate villages, sun-drenched savannahs, and industrial labs, are richly designed, providing an authentic yet haunting atmosphere. The lighting effects, particularly the bright, unforgiving sunlight, give the game a unique look that deviates from the series' traditionally dark settings. Character models for both protagonists and enemies are well-rendered, showcasing a high level of detail that heightens the game’s cinematic feel. Though its visuals are dated by today’s standards, "Resident Evil 5" still holds up, retaining an aesthetic that feels both fresh and nostalgic.
The most notable shift in "Resident Evil 5" is its focus on cooperative gameplay, a first for the series. Chris and Sheva must work together, and players can team up in either local split-screen or online co-op mode, with AI controlling Sheva if a second player isn’t available. This mechanic adds a layer of strategy, as players need to share resources, heal one another, and coordinate attacks. However, playing solo can sometimes lead to frustration, as the AI occasionally struggles with resource management or positioning, especially during more intense battles. While co-op adds excitement and accessibility, some of the tension and isolation, core components of the Resident Evil horror experience, are diminished by the team dynamic.
The gameplay in "Resident Evil 5" emphasizes combat over puzzle-solving, offering a vast arsenal of weapons and an abundance of ammunition compared to earlier titles. Players can upgrade weapons, buy new gear, and manage an inventory system that requires strategic item placement. Enemies, ranging from infected villagers to mutated bosses, are more aggressive and often swarm players, pushing them into a fast-paced, almost arcade-style of combat. The controls are a refinement of the mechanics introduced in "Resident Evil 4," maintaining the series’ signature stop-and-shoot style while tweaking movement for slightly smoother navigation. This action-heavy focus may alienate series purists, but it undeniably creates thrilling, high-stakes firefights.
The antagonist of "Resident Evil 5" is the familiar Albert Wesker, whose megalomaniacal scheme drives the story’s bioterror theme to a global scale. Wesker’s over-the-top villainy and superhuman powers contribute to the game’s more bombastic tone, contrasting with the nuanced, subtle horror of earlier installments. While Wesker’s character adds a sense of continuity to the series, the story’s focus on action-oriented set-pieces, such as escaping a tribal ambush or battling in explosive environments, can sometimes feel overly cinematic, pulling away from the series' traditional horror storytelling. Nonetheless, the narrative offers thrilling moments and fan-service that longtime players may appreciate, even if it veers into blockbuster territory.
One of the standout aspects of "Resident Evil 5" is its boss battles, which are grand in scale and varied in design. From fighting a massive mutant bat in an ancient ruin to taking on Wesker himself in a high-octane final showdown, these encounters test players’ coordination and use of available weapons. Each boss presents different challenges, often requiring the players to utilize the environment or specific mechanics to succeed. While not as puzzle-focused as previous games, these battles offer a level of excitement that feels right at home within the game’s action-heavy approach, providing memorable moments and satisfying payoffs.
Though it’s an ambitious and entertaining title, "Resident Evil 5" is not without its criticisms. The shift away from survival horror towards action disappointed some fans who felt the game lacked the suspense and isolation that defined the series. Additionally, the game faced controversy over its portrayal of African villagers as infected enemies, which sparked discussions about racial insensitivity. Capcom attempted to mitigate this by adding a diverse range of enemy types, but this remains a complex issue that has impacted the game’s legacy. These aspects do not overshadow its achievements but add nuance to the game’s place within the franchise and gaming history.
In conclusion, "Resident Evil 5" is a bold departure from the franchise’s roots, offering a cooperative action experience that trades survival horror for adrenaline-pumping set pieces and teamwork. Its polished visuals, intense combat, and engaging co-op mechanics make it an enjoyable experience, even if it lacks the haunting atmosphere of earlier titles. While not universally embraced by fans, "Resident Evil 5" stands as a significant entry in the series, marking Capcom’s experiment with a new direction. For those open to a more action-focused take on Resident Evil, the game offers a fun, if unconventional, journey through bioterror on a global scale.
Capcom added Enigma DRM years after the game's release. Scummy move. I will never buy any product with Enigma on it, and I will never reinstall this game so long as it contains Enigma DRM. Absolutely inexcusable lack of business ethics. No one should buy this game while Enigma DRM remains embedded in it, in my opinion.
7 minutes is all I can spare to play this game alone. Get a friend and go through the campaign in co-op since it is the only way you can experience all the fun this game has to offer. Great story, fun gameplay and of course ALBERT WESKER. Don't miss out on all the things this masterpiece has to offer!
One of the best co op games, let alone RE co op games, this game builds of RE4 very well both in terms of gameplay and lore being more dynamic compared to the former, though it is less horror focused and there are some irritating sections (second Ourobouros boss) but overall it is an amazing games, 9/10

I would put this up there with Portal 2 in terms of coop campaigns, it's just that fun. However, the game gets a little frustrating when playing singleplayer on Veteran, and I haven't tried Professional yet. Best experienced with a friend.
I revisited this for the first time since its release. It still holds up pretty well, but man is it a product of its time. A time when the industry was fanatical about making all manner of co-op games in the wake of Gears of War, et al.
Resident Evil 5 is definitely missing some quality of life stuff though, especially if you’re fresh from Capcom’s remake boat as it stands in 2024. It doesn’t feel like a first class citizen in regards to cooperative games either. Don’t get me wrong, taking on challenges as a pair is great fun. But I’m still missing some asymmetry between the two characters; at the very least a feeling that I can do something the other player can’t.
It’s at its best when it lets you do “Resident Evil stuff”, like exploring and partaking in fun set pieces with loads of enemies. It’s even better when it forces you to part ways in the process. It’s less fun when the storytellers behind the game force their way into the limelight; giving clear directions about what buttons to press -- often trumping player agency. It’s not quite as bad as Resident Evil 6 in that sense, but it’s definitely paving the way for things to come.
Anyway, a bumpy ride all in all, but very enjoyable once you’re in the thick of it.
Recommended.
Dont pay attention to the story of previous games and dont take the video game logic it has to heart and its a fun game to just run around and shoot zombies in the face, fair warning ai is a nightmare to deal with on harder difficulties
Wide range of variety in each fight with enemies, area and weapons. If you can deal with the 2009ness then you will probably enjoy it. Go punch a boulder.
Easily the 1st or 2nd worst RE game in the series for survival horror fans - its a close race to the bottom with RE6. Maybe not so much for people who want to play a power fantasy where they kill hordes of enemies and punch boulders into oblivion, in which case you've come to the right place.
Its still a good diversion if you want some mindless fun. Encounters are usually fast paced, but do become somewhat repetitious as you begin to understand the basic combat loop of the game - though there are challenging encounters which do catch you off guard from time to time. Its also one of the few co-op RE games you can still access today so if you have someone who plays with you the co-op does enhance the game loop.
All that said, prepare to curse how bad the partner AI is if you play Veteran or above solo - a great many situations turn into prayer and RNG that your AI partner doesn't off themselves by mistake.
Still worth the buy...if its on sale.
It's not a terrible game by any means but it lacks a lot. For starter, it's not a survival horror game rather an action third person shooter with gore elements, something like Gears of War. The difference is however that the controls weren't designed with this in mind! It's a mediocre game that I only recommend to hardcore RE fans.
Resident Evil 5 is a great game. It knows how to be serious and give the jump scares and also it has the witty banter that keeps that game play alive and interactive. I really enjoy that the took away the QTE events in this version, maybe they can put that patch on the PS3 an Xbox 360 as well.
This is an incredible game. One or the best co-op multiplayer games available. I’ve had hundreds of hours of pure joy playing both the campaign and mercenaries modes. It also still holds up graphically really well almost two decades after release. It’s super well optimised (they even got it running on a 3DS and old phones and my friend plays with integrated Intel graphics without issue).
People point at this one as moving too far into action territory. However i’d say RE4 already did that (it had finishing moved, QTEs etc). I’d say this is the perfect balance and RE6 is where it went off the rails. Even that has it’s merits. Sure RE5 has it’s cheese but that’s part of the RE DNA. And after completing the game you no longer need to do quick time events on future play throughs (a lovely QOL improvement).
For something more horror with classic fixed cameras I get that itch scratched with REmake or Parasite Eve.
I originally bought this on Xbox 360 and played single player (so not to spoil the story with random online players pushing me through it and taking my time). Then I replayed and had some of my best multiplayer experiences online.
There are things I wish were different about this one from a gameplay perspective, but I still manage to have fun replaying this one from time to time.
This game is GREAT for all kinds of dudes who get bitches, play cool games, and jack their shit off every Sunday.
this game is pretty fun when there's nobody screaming in your ear that they aren't (not very scary though. good game but bad resident evil game)
A quintessential co-op game that still holds up relatively well today. The partner AI when playing solo is hit or miss. The combat, while satisfying, is starting to get a bit dated by the series modern standards. The additional mercenaries game mode will take all your free time if you let it. Realistically, this is more Resident Evil 4 and that should be enough to sell you on this.
Great game for couples!
That being said, if you get frustrated easily, it may strain your relationship.
This is the first Resident Evil game i've ever played and I greatly enjoyed it. Its a little dated and the movement gets some getting used to but overall its a short and sweet joyride best played with a partner. 8/10
It's a little janky sometimes because it's older, but overall it still holds up and was a lot of fun with co-op.
7/10
what a great game try playing with a friend its makes the gaming experience 100x better they should bring back co-op story mode to re series back
Fine Game. 6/10 Would Recommend if a fan of the RE Series.
Good game, but whatever you do, don't play with a controller. Playing with a controller adds a laser that easily blends with the environment, often making aiming harder than it should be.
It might be old school, but still has massive playability, packed with humour - especially in co-op mode.
A really good game, but I must say there were times I wasn't sure who is my enemy: Npc Sheva or Albert Wesker.
The amount of times she died for nothing is insane. Overall amazing game really liked killing the Spaghetti boss with a grenade after I realised he is so bugged on PC.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND EATING A SPAGEHTTI WHILE PLAYING THIS.
an absolute masterpiece, the best resident evil game imo!!!
As much as I love the resident evil franchise, I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone that's played the remakes or 7 & 8. The switch from being able to move while shooting and reloading to being forced to stand still is so jarring that I'm still not able to cope with it at the final boss of the game. I've been playing with a friend for the past few months and we spent 2 hours today trying to fight the final boss, only to get confused about how to trigger any of the weaknesses we've seen in videos about it.
I was initially excited to try this out but now I genuinely don't think I'll be able to finish it without mods because of how poorly the game has aged. It's such a shame too, because I REALLY wanted to like it, but just couldn't find a way to do so after so many poorly executed new mechanics, which I won't talk about for risk of spoiling the game for anyone brave enough to play it. Who knows, maybe I'll start enjoying it like I did RE4 Remake, which I now have almost 500 hours in, but currently? No way, just wait for the inevitable RE5 remake they do.
gameplay outdated, have to wasd instead of move with mouse/turn, alot of puzzles cut out, this one was definitely geared toward the action oriented, great if you want to relive the story
really fun, classic co-op action and great combat mechanics. the story is a little weak, but overall enjoyable
Western game development done right. The puzzles are fun and the map design is great. I know this is a widely hated title among the long-term RE fans, but It is still a great game. Screw the tank controls.
