I don't understand why so much people really hate this game:(
It's really like the same like RE 4 Original, but in new setting and coop. In coop the game is especially cool, you can play it alone, but in cooperate it's much more fun. If you miss RE 5, I recommend to try)
Homeowners of Low Moral Fiber - 5th Chapter - is one of the best co-op campaigns you can ever play. Period. It's seriously just a fun adventure to play as the most jacked and juiced government agent and his african slay queen together with a buddy. I'd say it's a top 3 co-op game, right next to the original Left4Dead and Portal 2.
In terms of solo play . . . the main game is passable but less than the co-op campaign because the partner AI is a bit frustrating at times, but there's a ton of fun in the post-game, as RE5's Mercenaries mode is one of the best in the series due to the great level selection and a ton of characters and loadouts to choose from.
So bless the rains down in Africa with COMPLETE GLOBAL SATURATION, grab a friend and punch a boulder into a volcano with them today as you enjoy RESIDENT EVIL . . . . . . . . . . FIVE!
This game is so good, you almost forget it has that yellow "foreign country" filter. Great game to co-op and the mercenaries gameplay and music go too hard. Still trying to figure out who this "Roger!" is that Chris and Sheva keep shouting about, but maybe I need to read the lore for that.
This game is one of my friends favorite and I got it purely to play with them and its awesome.
Underated, defo worth your money if you like good action and mild horror. some pretty fights boss fights as well.
Do I think its better than Resident Evil 4? Nope, but I had fun beating stupid bosses with my brother. 10/10 Co-op Resident Evil experience, better than RE6
This game isn't perfect. The Resident Evil action trilogy; 4, 5, and 6; was when the game was when the franchise was going through an identity crisis and was the first example of a survival horror franchise becoming not scary on purpose for money. This game also fake-kills my favorite character, Jill Valentine. There is never a call for fake deaths in fiction. Despite all of that, I really liked it. Resident Evil Degeneration was a sendoff for Umbrella where Leon and Claire find and arrest one of the last remaining Umbrella employees; and this game feels like the second part of the finale where the other two main characters of the franchise, Jill and Chris face off against the other big bad Albert Wesker. It's also fun to finally be able to fight Wesker after seeing him as a super human in Code: Veronica. It also twists the racist dynamic of Resident Evil 4, by saving the black gal, and having the big bad possessing the black angry people be white. It also has Chris punching a boulder, which is hilarious. Definitely the best game in the action trilogy.
It's not great, and is full of mainstream garbage trends of the era, but it's still a solid game worth playing.
Looks good, runs good. No problems here.
Pretty good, (I've played the games chronologically up to this point with the most recent versions of the games: RE:0, RE:1 (2002), RE:2 Remake, RE:3 Remake, RE:4 Remake, a little bit of RE: Revelations, and now this) and I definitely think this game deserves the REmake treatment that the previous 3 in the series have gotten, I think it would be great
The game is still fantastic. It's aged very well. Yes, there are some clunky things like not being able to move while you're aiming, but you get re-used to it after a couple of hours. The game could use a remake graphically, but it's fine still.
Resident Evil 5 taught me two things: 1) Always bring a buddy to an apocalypse, preferably one who won’t waste all the ammo. 2) Boulders are NOT safe around Chris Redfield. 10/10 would punch boulders again.
It's the typical game to play one or two games, it's boring, but it's entertaining to play if you listen to a podcast in the background, play with a friend, etc.
This game is only worth buying on instant gaming, it's too cheap.
I hope you have a friend to play with lol. Well even if you don't, you can still enjoy the mercenaries. One of those I want to play another round games. Recommend.
Cool game. Setting, graphics, sound, etc are all really good. The only gripe is the controls take some getting used to, but after that you settle in and move along nicely. The story is...well, more Resident Evil, so it's adequate enough.
Like I always say, wait for it to be on sale. It's certainly worth a few bucks for the entertainment value you get. This particular title isn't given enough credit in the franchise overall. It is more action based gameplay, but it still retains plenty of the classic game elements to stay true to the other titles.
I recommend RE 5 for those who like the slightly older, yet quality, games at cheaper prices.
I'm still amazed by how few disk space it takes, compare to other Resident Evil games. This game takes less than 10GB, but how?!
Compare to former Resident Evil games, this is a cooperative two-player games, if you play as single player, the other character will be AI, or you can play with another friend if you are annoyed by the silly AI. Next, it doesn't have typewriters for saving game. Instead, each stage and chapter can be easily access through menu, therefore I don't need go through the long journey to replay my favorite parts. What's more, the weapons are independent with game save, which means I can bring the new fully-upgraded weapons to play the stages I once suffered.
However, I still could not get used to the cranky camera view. Some times it spins heavily and makes me feel dizzy. The mercenaries also makes me annoyed. I tried hard to keep my combos, but I always failed. And I couldn't defeat all 150 enemies, as I died early or ran out of time. Every time I see those game masters achieve full combos, I' m so envious. The mercenaries game in new Resident Evil 4 Remake is much better for me as I could parry and keep my combos.
I had first purchased this game back on release for my PlayStation 3 and managed to pick up the gold edition from a local GameStop store. Years later I had picked it up on PC for the first time to give it a go again some years back.
One of my favorite Resident Evil's next to 4, it's an absolute blast with a friend in co-op. I've done several run thrus over the course of the past few years on PC alone, and honestly doesn't get boring in co-op for me.
Resident Evil 5 leans heavily into action, leaving its survival horror roots behind. The story is entertaining, but the gameplay can feel repetitive. Bugs, such as issues with the outdated Games for Windows Live service, make launching the game difficult without a fan-made patch. While enjoyable in parts, the lack of horror and some frustrating encounters hold it back.
7/10
Best Resident evil game out there . Story is incredible . Gameplay is playable . Atmosphere is tense . Completed it in solo but obviously it more fun with a friend . Must have for everyone who like zombies .
Resident Evil 5 has undeniably earned its place as my favorite entry in the entire Resident Evil series. While it might not have the same horror-driven atmosphere as some of the earlier games, what it lacks in sheer terror, it more than makes up for with heart-pounding action and a truly remarkable cooperative experience.
The game shines bright with its co-op mode. Being able to play through the entire story with a friend adds a whole new layer of excitement and strategy. Whether you're teaming up with a local player or diving into an online session, the dynamic between the characters, Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar, makes every mission feel engaging. The cooperative gameplay is perfectly executed, with moments of tension as you try to cover each other’s backs during intense combat sequences and solve puzzles together. It’s rare to find a game where the story feels so tightly knit with the gameplay, and RE5 does this brilliantly.
My favorite part was playing alongside my girlfriend. Despite her making fun of me a few times—especially when I got us killed or messed up a puzzle (beam totems in the pyramid)—those moments only made it even more enjoyable. We couldn’t stop laughing at each other’s mistakes (pretty much just mine), which added an extra layer of fun to the experience. The game really lets you bond and have a good time, even in the most intense situations. It’s not just about surviving together; it’s about sharing the adventure and creating memories, even if some of them come with playful teasing!
This is HANDS. DOWN. One of-if not-the best co-op shooters/games PERIOD. The levels are designed for you and your partner, (hopefully not the ai), to be on your feet, helping each other along the way. This game is like Left 4 Dead in a sense that if you do not contribute and help your friend, you will both be absolutely screwed! And yeah, sure, this game isn't a regular RE installment. It is kinda dumb at times and 100% over the top. Chris Redfield is a boulder-punching s.o.b! People say that the bosses are the worst part of the game, but that is just completely untrue. Each boss fight will be different and more challenging than the last! And if the boss is taking too long, either look at your gear, or look for the boss' weakness. Trust me when I say there are WAY more hidden/hinted at ways to mess up bosses and enemies that youtubers and people alike have no idea about. That is one reason people hate this game-the bosses take too long! In my opinion, the boss fights are what make the campaign so rewarding. They are like several goals you go through before the final Wesker fight. So, if you have 7 minutes (unlike Chris on professional....) buy this game, buy it for a friend, buy it for a friend's cousin! It may not be RE4 or RE7, but the co-op gameplay and mechanics are what separate this game from the others.
I can only recommend this out of the good of my heart if you have someone to play it with. Mercenaries is fun both solo and co-op, and the story can be for sure-but playing with someone will maximize your potential of enjoying this game to its limit! Kick Wesker's ass for me! For Doug! (Rip the homie) :(
It may not have an ounce of horror in it compared to previous titles but I don't care, this is the most fun and replayable Resident Evil game. Only potentially being rivaled by RE4. Peak Chris Redfield, would buy 5 more times. 5/5.
The tank controls + over the shoulder camera combo may not have aged all that well but RE5 is still a masterpiece and one of the best coop games ever made.
I spent more hours than I can count playing through this thing back on the PS3 before RE6 came out (and later on alongside it) most of it was spent playing solo with partner AI and I never understood the "Sheva/partner AI sucks" arguments saying how it's unplayable solo. If you're one of those people there's only one thing I can say to you - Skill issue. I never had a problem with it and I finished it on veteran and professional difficulties more than once.
Looking forward to the remake.
10/10 Please Capcom, bring Sheva back in a new game (not including the remake)
One of the best RE's, at least for me. Mainly because of the great multiplayer. It's also amazing how easy it is to find someone to play together so many years later. Or maybe I just got lucky.
Much better than RE6 in my opinion. LIke insanely much better. If you're looking for a game you can duo with your friend, RE5 is a great pick for that. A bit clunky in the controls department and the graphics are not on part with what we have today (but they are still very much presentable) but it's a very enjoyable game. I'd say around 10-12h for a playthrough with no achievements hunting.
I'd recommend this as a fun co-op shooter to play with a friend. I do not recommend this as an RE title, as it's pretty much a straight 3rd person action game, removing all the horror elements, not too dissimilar to Dead Space 3. Fun yes, but I don't see it as a true RE game.
Chris Redfield and Sheva whatever her last name goes to africa and commit massive genocide and leaves with no elaboration. I must say this is a masterpiece of a game and should be remaked soon
Well that's a good story on the next chapter. not the super best one but interesting one
One of the better co op campaign experiences on the market! The ammo and item sharing is a nice feature and I liked the idea of playing through a Resident Evil story while being able to count on at least one person I meet in a survival horror game not dying right after I meet them! If you don't have a spare copy of Army of Two: The 40th Day lying around, I'd recommend RE6. If you don't have a copy of RE6, then I'd recommend this game!
Not the standard RE formula, but more of a run and gun. Lots of action and still a few scares, just more tension and less jumpscares. A solid game, the AI is a bit dumb, but a solid shot. Give them a good gun and let them go to town. I gave Sheva the MP5 and the Rifle and she hits every shot.
Way better story than RE6 even if it's still over the top and campy, well worth sale price if nothing else.
This game is at its best with co-op. i love how i really enjoyed the game. love the story and characters
7/10 so far. ONLY GET THIS GAME WHEN IT GOES ON SALE FOR UNDER $15. Despite it not being as good as RE 1- RE 4, it still pretty fun if you're looking for a dumb action game with very little horror in it, enough to give you more of the RE lore (it's the same as Dark Souls 2 imo, not as good as the other ones but can still be fun)
I played through this game with a friend in coop. The combat is a bit dated by now as you cannot move while aiming or reloading. I think the gameplay was generally fun, although there were a few sections where I was just waiting for the other character to do what they had to do to continue. Most boss fights are gimmick fights. In fact, most of the time I just stood around waiting for my friend to do the thing he had to do in order to damage the boss. I did not care much for the story but it did get cheesy at times. Overall I am glad I experienced this part of the franchise but I will not likely revisit it any time soon. If you will be playing this, I recommend to tackle it with a friend.
Resident Evil 5 is honestly the best game to get into for those who are new to the Resident Evil series as it is more action heavy than being focused on solving puzzles without being too difficult, although some people might dislike this game for not being like the other games in the series, but i like the story it has so far.
This game can be very fun if you're playing with a friend or even solo. I recommend this game to others looking for a duo kinda game to play.
Game is really fun when you have a friend to play with, and the story is really fun. Had a great time playing with my friend.
I tested Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition on loan from the Steam family.
And what can I say at the moment?
The 5 surprisingly worked perfectly, without crashes or frame drops, the controls respond well, graphically speaking, it has aged well and is still beautiful today.
It's fun, especially if you're a Resident Evil fanatic.
The story, the characters, the monsters (or zombies, for that matter...) and the atmosphere. I'll only give my opinion soon when I complete the 5.
I bought it cheap on sale and it's worth it.
Fun janky game.
Everything worked until the last boss battle, it was glitched and couldnt die. WE counterused a glitch and the boss died.
Happy ending :D
A fun game to mess around with with a friend. Not sure I'd play it alone.
7 minutes is all I can spare to write this review.
I came from binging all the RE games and I did not play REmake 2, 3, or 4 for this. I played the OG RE2/3 and skipped 4 (sorry leon). I just wanna say. I am disappointed to learn this is the direction Capcom went with the gameplay but I'm told it kinda reverts back to the old games later on but I don't know how much I can trust on that information.
The story is as comical as it can get with Wesker. I honestly just think the downside of the game is the gameplay itself. It's not scary, its not even anywhere fun or exciting until I get to the Wesker fights. If anything, my AI partner was annoying. I will rerun this game with a friend, like they intended it to be, and I assume it'd be more fun and less annoying.
Overall, only here for the story and I don't think I was disappointed by it, aside from how they are writing Chris now (in comparison to when I last saw him in CV and RE1).
Oh, playtime's over. How fortunate for you, Capcom.
My Thrilling Journey with Resident Evil 5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recently dove into Resident Evil 5, and it was an incredible experience that I can’t stop raving about! From the moment I teamed up with Sheva, I felt an instant connection to the story and characters. The chemistry between Chris and Sheva made every challenge we faced together feel so impactful and engaging.
The visuals were absolutely stunning. I was blown away by the beautifully crafted environments, from the bustling markets of Kijuju to the eerie, shadowy landscapes. I often found myself pausing just to take in the scenery, even as the tension around me ramped up!
What really stood out for me was the co-op gameplay. Playing with a friend transformed every encounter into a shared adventure. We had to strategize, communicate, and sometimes laugh at our mishaps while battling hordes of enemies. Those moments of teamwork not only heightened the excitement but also deepened our friendship in the process.
The story kept me hooked, filled with unexpected twists that made me genuinely care about what happened next. The blend of horror and action was expertly balanced, and I found my heart racing during intense moments.
Overall, Resident Evil 5 is more than just a game; it’s a thrilling journey packed with action, strategy, and emotional depth. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure that you can enjoy with a friend. It’s an experience I’ll treasure for a long time!
Its my personal favorite game of all time and I'm Eagerly waiting for it's Remake
P.s Make the inventory system like Re 4 Remake.
Honestly, I was surprise how good this game is evern after 15 years. Ofc its not really perfect but its enjoyable playing coop .
this game is tons of fun with the coop campaign wish more RE had coop
This was actually a lot better than I expected!
I could not have played this singleplayer though so get a friend and play it multiplayer (LUKE LUKE AWOOGA)
It was more of an action game i'm ngl but very enjoyable
The bossfights were pretty fun and all different experiences
Some encounters were pretty annoying due to the large amounts of enemies
Lots of different weapons and playstyles up for offer and some optional stuff as well :)
6/10
The movement is so incredibly shit it makes it impossible to play. There are no settings for it and the mouse, turning and other movement is fucked up
Resident Evil 5 : By Triple F
Released in 2009, "Resident Evil 5" took the series in a more action-oriented direction, marking a clear departure from the atmospheric survival horror roots that defined the franchise. Set in the fictional African country of Kijuju, the game follows series veteran Chris Redfield and his new partner, Sheva Alomar, as they investigate the latest bioterror threat posed by the nefarious pharmaceutical company, Umbrella. With a focus on co-op gameplay, intense action, and a range of exotic environments, "Resident Evil 5" delivers an experience that is both exhilarating and divisive, capturing the franchise’s evolution into a more action-heavy narrative while sacrificing some of its original horror elements.
Graphically speaking, "Resident Evil 5" was groundbreaking for its time, utilizing Capcom’s MT Framework engine to bring vivid detail to every scene. The African-inspired environments like the desolate villages, sun-drenched savannahs, and industrial labs, are richly designed, providing an authentic yet haunting atmosphere. The lighting effects, particularly the bright, unforgiving sunlight, give the game a unique look that deviates from the series' traditionally dark settings. Character models for both protagonists and enemies are well-rendered, showcasing a high level of detail that heightens the game’s cinematic feel. Though its visuals are dated by today’s standards, "Resident Evil 5" still holds up, retaining an aesthetic that feels both fresh and nostalgic.
The most notable shift in "Resident Evil 5" is its focus on cooperative gameplay, a first for the series. Chris and Sheva must work together, and players can team up in either local split-screen or online co-op mode, with AI controlling Sheva if a second player isn’t available. This mechanic adds a layer of strategy, as players need to share resources, heal one another, and coordinate attacks. However, playing solo can sometimes lead to frustration, as the AI occasionally struggles with resource management or positioning, especially during more intense battles. While co-op adds excitement and accessibility, some of the tension and isolation, core components of the Resident Evil horror experience, are diminished by the team dynamic.
The gameplay in "Resident Evil 5" emphasizes combat over puzzle-solving, offering a vast arsenal of weapons and an abundance of ammunition compared to earlier titles. Players can upgrade weapons, buy new gear, and manage an inventory system that requires strategic item placement. Enemies, ranging from infected villagers to mutated bosses, are more aggressive and often swarm players, pushing them into a fast-paced, almost arcade-style of combat. The controls are a refinement of the mechanics introduced in "Resident Evil 4," maintaining the series’ signature stop-and-shoot style while tweaking movement for slightly smoother navigation. This action-heavy focus may alienate series purists, but it undeniably creates thrilling, high-stakes firefights.
The antagonist of "Resident Evil 5" is the familiar Albert Wesker, whose megalomaniacal scheme drives the story’s bioterror theme to a global scale. Wesker’s over-the-top villainy and superhuman powers contribute to the game’s more bombastic tone, contrasting with the nuanced, subtle horror of earlier installments. While Wesker’s character adds a sense of continuity to the series, the story’s focus on action-oriented set-pieces, such as escaping a tribal ambush or battling in explosive environments, can sometimes feel overly cinematic, pulling away from the series' traditional horror storytelling. Nonetheless, the narrative offers thrilling moments and fan-service that longtime players may appreciate, even if it veers into blockbuster territory.
One of the standout aspects of "Resident Evil 5" is its boss battles, which are grand in scale and varied in design. From fighting a massive mutant bat in an ancient ruin to taking on Wesker himself in a high-octane final showdown, these encounters test players’ coordination and use of available weapons. Each boss presents different challenges, often requiring the players to utilize the environment or specific mechanics to succeed. While not as puzzle-focused as previous games, these battles offer a level of excitement that feels right at home within the game’s action-heavy approach, providing memorable moments and satisfying payoffs.
Though it’s an ambitious and entertaining title, "Resident Evil 5" is not without its criticisms. The shift away from survival horror towards action disappointed some fans who felt the game lacked the suspense and isolation that defined the series. Additionally, the game faced controversy over its portrayal of African villagers as infected enemies, which sparked discussions about racial insensitivity. Capcom attempted to mitigate this by adding a diverse range of enemy types, but this remains a complex issue that has impacted the game’s legacy. These aspects do not overshadow its achievements but add nuance to the game’s place within the franchise and gaming history.
In conclusion, "Resident Evil 5" is a bold departure from the franchise’s roots, offering a cooperative action experience that trades survival horror for adrenaline-pumping set pieces and teamwork. Its polished visuals, intense combat, and engaging co-op mechanics make it an enjoyable experience, even if it lacks the haunting atmosphere of earlier titles. While not universally embraced by fans, "Resident Evil 5" stands as a significant entry in the series, marking Capcom’s experiment with a new direction. For those open to a more action-focused take on Resident Evil, the game offers a fun, if unconventional, journey through bioterror on a global scale.
Capcom added Enigma DRM years after the game's release. Scummy move. I will never buy any product with Enigma on it, and I will never reinstall this game so long as it contains Enigma DRM. Absolutely inexcusable lack of business ethics. No one should buy this game while Enigma DRM remains embedded in it, in my opinion.
7 minutes is all I can spare to play this game alone. Get a friend and go through the campaign in co-op since it is the only way you can experience all the fun this game has to offer. Great story, fun gameplay and of course ALBERT WESKER. Don't miss out on all the things this masterpiece has to offer!
One of the best co op games, let alone RE co op games, this game builds of RE4 very well both in terms of gameplay and lore being more dynamic compared to the former, though it is less horror focused and there are some irritating sections (second Ourobouros boss) but overall it is an amazing games, 9/10

I would put this up there with Portal 2 in terms of coop campaigns, it's just that fun. However, the game gets a little frustrating when playing singleplayer on Veteran, and I haven't tried Professional yet. Best experienced with a friend.
I revisited this for the first time since its release. It still holds up pretty well, but man is it a product of its time. A time when the industry was fanatical about making all manner of co-op games in the wake of Gears of War, et al.
Resident Evil 5 is definitely missing some quality of life stuff though, especially if you’re fresh from Capcom’s remake boat as it stands in 2024. It doesn’t feel like a first class citizen in regards to cooperative games either. Don’t get me wrong, taking on challenges as a pair is great fun. But I’m still missing some asymmetry between the two characters; at the very least a feeling that I can do something the other player can’t.
It’s at its best when it lets you do “Resident Evil stuff”, like exploring and partaking in fun set pieces with loads of enemies. It’s even better when it forces you to part ways in the process. It’s less fun when the storytellers behind the game force their way into the limelight; giving clear directions about what buttons to press -- often trumping player agency. It’s not quite as bad as Resident Evil 6 in that sense, but it’s definitely paving the way for things to come.
Anyway, a bumpy ride all in all, but very enjoyable once you’re in the thick of it.
Recommended.
