Описание
In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving they are attacked by a pack of blood-thirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive.
Graphics
- More detailed graphics that retain the horror.
- The environments come alive with detail thanks to resolution upgrades and non-static 3D models.
- Post-processing effects like Bloom filters, which were not easy to do at the time of the original release, have been added to make the HD graphics even more realistic.
- High-Resolution Environments - We've increased the resolution of the background environments by recreating them with a mix of high-res static images, plus animated 3D models.
Widescreen Support
- Widescreen (16:9) is supported, so players can experience a greater sense of immersion.
- In widescreen mode, the screen will scroll. The parts of the screen that get cut off on the top and bottom will scroll into view automatically depending on the character's position.
- You can switch the display mode during gameplay in real time.
Sound & New Controls
- High-Quality Sound - The audio has been remastered to increase the sampling rate, and of course 5.1ch output is also now supported.
- New Controls
- You can play using the original control scheme or an alternate control scheme that lets you just push the analog stick to move in the direction you want to go.
- You can switch the control scheme during gameplay in real time.

i wanted to try the original game sorry i didn't like it at all the control is weird and its not keyboard friendly
and camera view also is not good and i think that the developers should give the player the option for the decent cam view or the modern third person view especially for the new comers to the franchise .
and there is a lag problem .
After six hours of play with no problems, I go to launch the game and it never makes it past the launch window. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling, tried every work around I could find online (even turning off the Nvidia drivers) nothing works. And naturally, because it's over two hours of play, Steam won't refund the game. Very frustrating.
Fun & challenging, played w mods 8/10
Doors are unbearable tho lmao
one of the best games ever in survival horror. and possibly the best remake ever done in video games. this game is a masterpiece. i honestly can't think of another game that comes close in the genre. made everything about the original better and then added onto it. this review is so late so i know no one will read this but if for some reason someone is.... stop thinking about it and get this gem. you seriously will not regret it.
This is unfortunately one of those games that I'm gonna have to give up on before really giving it a proper chance. I'll have to wait for the remake to play it because this is just too clunky for me, especially since I didn't grow up with the franchise and have never had to deal with similar mechanics. It's an old game of course which excuses the technical limitations of the time, but that doesn't mean that it has aged well.
Things that I don't like:
-It feels like there's no point in using the handgun. I have however never fought any bosses or any other enemies than the regular zombies so I'm not convinced that it's useless.
-Dodging zombies feels really inconsistent. I know that you're supposed to get close enough for them to lunge at you and then run past them while they're in "recovery". This works, but only sometimes. Every once in a while they just never enter recovery mode so you're forced to take a hit anyway or waste a defensive item.
-The fixed camera angles make it difficult to understand where you are and where you're going as well as the dimensions of the area that you're currently in. This makes it feel like you're forced to use the tank controls if you want to move normally between cameras which makes it pointless to add modern controls (character moves in the direction that you're pressing). I don't know how many times I've ran into a wall because I couldn't see what was right in front of my character.
-At least I haven't found it, but there's no "memory/note" system that puts a note on the map saying what kind of key item you're missing like there are in the modern titles. This means that unless you memorize everything or write it all down, you're gonna end up running back and forth between places because you didn't remember that you had to use one key item while having another.
-Ink ribbons as a concept is annoying. I understand that the concept of them is that you're supposed to be punished for making mistakes, but the first playthrough is just a bunch of trial and error which means that you'll have to play the same thing over and over again just because you ran out of ink ribbons. The worst part about them however is that they take up an inventory slot while you're already limited to 6 or 8 spaces (depending on character). Add key items to that and you'll have next to no space for consumables.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't give it a go yourself. You might actually end up enjoying it and I wish I could too, but it's just not a game for me.
Sorry This game is crap. The player does not move correctly, if you go forward then because the player is not aligned correctly with a room it will inevitably hit a wall and the players position has to be readjusted. I know this is an old game but there are much better Sinclair spectrum games which came out mostly in the 80's.
In 2002 this was acceptable, I beat it back then with both Chris and Jill. This game has aged badly. The atmosphere, graphic design and music are good. The camera, controls, "combat", voice-acting, weapons, gameplay... all bad. The story in RE games is okay, and it's badly handled in this game. It's a decent "explore the haunted house" game but the gaming experience is mediocre overall. It's a clunky, colorless mess. The original was better.

Even though I love RE2 Remake and I uh... kinda like RE3 Remake, I really wish capcom made another RE2 and RE3 remakes like this one. And If you're not sure whether to get it or not because of the camera and controls, you get used to them really quick. Opening the doors all the time gets a little annoying though, especially when backtracking, but there's a mod you can install to skip the door animation.
The game is very good. Highly recommend it.
Resident Evil HD Remaster breathes new life into the original survival horror masterpiece that started it all. This updated version of the 1996 classic doesn't just polish the visuals, it elevates the entire experience while maintaining the core elements that made the original so iconic. For fans of the genre and newcomers alike, this remaster offers an unforgettable journey into the Spencer Mansion's terrifying corridors.
A Return to Survival Horror’s Roots
The remaster revisits the classic story of Resident Evil, where players step into the shoes of either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, members of the elite S.T.A.R.S. team, sent to investigate mysterious murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. What follows is a horrifying descent into the heart of the Spencer Mansion, a labyrinth of secrets, puzzles, and grotesque monstrosities.
The game stays true to its roots, focusing on tension, resource management, and environmental storytelling. Even after all these years, the mansion is as haunting and enigmatic as ever.
Enhanced Visuals and Atmosphere
The updated graphics in the HD Remaster are a standout feature. The pre-rendered backgrounds are beautifully remastered, with enhanced lighting and textures bringing the creepy atmosphere of the Spencer Mansion to life. Shadows flicker, lightning illuminates the dark hallways, and every creak of the floorboards feels more immersive than ever.
The game’s sound design is another highlight, with eerie background music and haunting ambient noises adding to the tension. It’s a game that demands to be played with headphones for the full effect.
Refined Controls: Old and New
One of the biggest improvements is the addition of modernized controls. The tank controls of the original, while still available for purists, are now complemented by an alternative control scheme that feels more fluid and intuitive. This makes the game more accessible for new players while preserving the challenge and suspense that defined the original.
Puzzles and Exploration: Engaging and Rewarding
The remaster retains the intricate puzzles and exploration that were a hallmark of the original. From cryptic riddles to hidden keys, each discovery feels satisfying and rewarding. The layout of the mansion itself is a puzzle, with shortcuts, locked doors, and secret pathways that gradually reveal themselves as you progress.
Survival Horror at Its Best
Resident Evil HD Remaster captures the essence of survival horror. Resources like ammunition and healing items are scarce, forcing players to make strategic choices and manage their inventory carefully. Every encounter with a zombie or monstrous creature feels tense and consequential, with death always lurking around the corner.
The addition of Crimson Heads, zombies that can resurrect into faster, deadlier versions if not disposed of properly, adds a new layer of fear and strategy, ensuring that even areas you thought were “safe” remain a source of dread.
Pros:
- Stunning visual overhaul: Pre-rendered backgrounds and lighting effects look gorgeous and atmospheric.
- Refined controls: The addition of modern controls makes the game more accessible.
- Classic survival horror: Maintains the tension, resource management, and puzzle-solving that define the genre.
- Improved sound design: Creepy ambient noises and music enhance the eerie atmosphere.
- Faithful to the original: Captures the essence of what made the original Resident Evil a masterpiece.
- Crimson Heads: A chilling new twist to the zombie threat.
- Multiple playthroughs encouraged: With two characters (Chris and Jill), different endings, and challenging modes, replayability is high.
Cons:
- Fixed camera angles: While iconic, they can feel dated to some players and make combat tricky.
- Limited inventory space: Adds to the challenge but can be frustrating at times.
- Pace may feel slow: The deliberate pacing and backtracking might not appeal to players unfamiliar with older games.
- No major story changes: Veterans of the original may find little new content in terms of narrative.
[*]Lack of accessibility options: Limited features for modern accessibility standards.
Conclusion:
Resident Evil HD Remaster is a masterclass in remaking a classic. It preserves the charm and terror of the original while improving on its visuals, controls, and overall presentation. This is survival horror at its finest, with a haunting atmosphere, engaging puzzles, and relentless tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
For longtime fans, it’s a nostalgic trip back to the Spencer Mansion with a fresh coat of paint. For newcomers, it’s a fantastic way to experience one of gaming’s most influential titles. Despite a few dated mechanics, the remaster is a must-play for anyone looking to explore the roots of survival horror. Just remember: in the world of Resident Evil, every bullet and every step matters.
The best game in the Resident Evil saga, 2002's REmake features the truest realization of the survival horror sales pitch the series has always held, assailing the player with ferocious enemies, and offering them scant supplies of ammo, health and saves. In it's cruelest and most iconic trick, it's zombies will revive even more vicious than before, if killed by any means short of total annihilation. Perhaps most impressively, it's visuals, relative to it's console generation, are still the greatest in any game ever made. It is a deceptive, sadistic, squirming game, that will never allow you to pin it down, but will offer you just enough second chances to eventually brave the horror.
Resident Evil is pure survival horror. The game keeps you on edge, whether you’re low on ammo or running from something terrifying. The creepy vibes and tight level design make it so fun to explore.
Pros:
+The scares hit just right, super creepy but not overkill.
+Puzzles are cool and give you a break from the action.
+Managing your ammo and health adds a lot to the tension.
Cons:
-Some controls can feel a little clunky.
-Limited saves might annoy new players.
If you’re into horror games, you’ve gotta try this. Just be ready for some heart-pounding moments!
As someone who grew up only playing RE4, I wanted to give the original RE a shot after hearing high praise for it being more focused on the horror and puzzles, something I've grown to love while playing other titles of this era such as the original Silent Hill titles.
I can say after making it halfway through the campaign that this game just isn't for me. I don't think some things aged well like the inventory system and monotonous backtracking. I never got engaged in the story really, not what was actually happening with the characters/environment.
To get the original feel I played with tank controls, a control scheme that I've grown real fond of using it in SH, but imo I think this game does need a another remake in the same vein as RE2 Remake, as the constant door openings and backtracking were putting me to sleep. This game is also not scary in the slightest. I thought RE4 had more scares than this game.
For someone who's just about to experience the atmosphere of horror games first in a lifetime, this game is a top-notch to begin with. The atmosphere, the puzzling clues and the chilling effect one gets while playing, all of it contributes in making this game ONE of the BEST. It's really fantastic, to be honest though. But one suggestion for CAPCOM: try to make this game in future playable from a 3rd-person perspective. It would be really cool and somehow revolutionary if CAPCOM implements it.
Fun ahh game! It's actually challenging from every difficulty. Doesn't beat RE2 and 4 but easy third fav
This is a required play for all survival horror fans. Still one of the greatest game remakes of all-time. I've played through this multiple times and I still get scared. When I first rented it back on Gamecube I was so nervous and scared while playing it I was shaking.
To me, it’s boring. You just walk around, watch door-opening animations, and visit storage rooms to either drop off items clogging up your inventory or pick something up.
Aside from that, there’s the combat, which boils down to shooting enemies a couple of times until they fall over, the dialogue, where you listen to voice actors poorly deliver badly written lines, and a game that looks stuttery and can crash when you alt-tab.
Personally, I’d say the original Resident Evil 4 was much better in terms of performance and gameplay.
Despite being a very popular old game and personally enjoying old games i hate this game with a passion without a guide you will sink hours into this game my personally favourite part is when i went to fight plant 42 i
noticed i had low heals so i left the room to grab more this in fact soft locks your game causing me to lose hours of progress
Though stressed and scared, game also made brain warm and zingy;
- Key unlock door complete puzzle get other key for other door and other puzzle = dopamine straight into my veins
sometimes puzzle or door need more than one key. crazy stuff.
- Path wrap back around to area you need key from where found key from other area.
- Kill zombie??? 0: Perhaps not good idea!
- Safe room cosy haven for between stressy moments. Sometimes just sit and breathe and enjoy music before go back out. Sometimes want to stay and not leave ever.
-Inventory head-scratching. very tense.
-Atmosphere and design!
10/10
Actually perfect game.
All you do in this game is find keys to open doors and listen to really poorly written dialog. It would have been a good game if this was 1990 but we're in 2025 now.
An absolute survival horror masterpiece. It is a testament to the games design that it has aged as well as it has - the prerendered backgrounds look gorgeous. Stunning atmosphere, music and use of shadows and camera angles to create an unnerving sense of isolation. A must play for any horror fan.
This game is like having your nuts zipped up In Your zipper and then leaving it that way and having to go to thanksgiving at your in-laws house for 6 hours. That’s how much fun it is.
Was it a good game for its time? Yes. Is it a good game by today's standards: arguable. It has good mechanics, and you can see its influence on other games across the medium going forward. Graphics are fine, but the control scheme is a large point of frustration, and I only leave this review because I am confident that anyone else who buys this will also be largely frustrated by the controls and fixed cameras and lack the perseverance to push on, and end up wasting the money spent on it. As a note, only ~20% of the people that own this game have beaten it based on Steam Achievements. There are good bones in this, but the flesh has rotted over time.
It's the classic Resident Evil experience!
The fixed camera angles can be can be a little wonky at times though.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in the RE series.
I hope this one gets a remake to bring it up to modern gaming standards!
i would recommend playing as jill valentine for your first run. one of the greatest remakes in the game industry -- it somehow remains faithful to the original while adding new puzzles and improving (immensely) on the voice acting (you will still laugh at it in the year of our lord 2024). if you're not used to tank controls, there's also the option to toggle to modern controls. click on EVERYTHING if you're lost and don't know what to do in a room. can't wait for the inevitable resident evil remake remake.
#1 Rule of Resident Evil - DO NOT LOOK UP A GUIDE!!!!!! THE GAME WON'T BE FUN IF YOU LOOK UP A GUIDE SO JUST DON'T!!!!!!!!
thought this was first person or at least third, the fixed camera angles are DOGDOOKY. its like viewing everything with cheap poorly placed CCTV cameras. i wish i could get my $10 back so can just get RE4 remake
Good game and a well done remaster. Chris's play through was a lot of fun and he's a decently well written character unlike Jill. Not sure why Capcom made Jill such an airhead but it annoys the crap out of me that it's so damn obvious that she is being deceived and yet she question a single f*cking thing! It's like she doesn't have a personality or those gears in her head aren't quite spinning right. Other than that I had a good time.
PS: DON'T FOLLOW THE IGN WALK THROUGH, IT IS TERRIBLE!!
Resident Evil now featuring Jill before RE3make turned her into the most insufferable version of Jill the fanbase has ever seen. Just play this instead of RE3 and you will thank yourself when you are done.
10 tank controls out of 10.
in all seriousness though this is the best version of Jill and its upsetting to see what RE3make did to Jill :(
I used to think this was Myst with zombies (derogatory) but now I know it’s Myst with zombies (complimentary).
Great remake of an all time classic. I remember playing this the month it first came out. The remake is an awesome update maintaining the original feel. I can't believe it has taken me this long to play the remake.
For RE fans this is a must play!
I really like this game and definitely recommend playing it. The camera angles take a little bit to get used to, but other than that it is a slay.
Playing this for the first time is such a surreal experience. The scares aren't cheap fnaf jumpscares. The music in this game will make you tense up and adds so much immersion. You will definitely get lost trying to figure what to do next as this game does not hold your hand and expects you to figure out the puzzles. There are hints on where to go but you have to pay attention to the files you read. Either way don't feel discouraged if you have to look up a walkthrough, they did make strategy guides for these games. Even just exploring the mansion feels satisfying because you're rewarded for doing so. The fixed camera angles and tank controls do get frustrating to learn at first but you eventually adjust to it. This game is a classic and everyone should complete the story at least once.
Clunky game, good story. Watch a video on the lore unless you like fixed camera angles and tank controls
If you played and loved RE 1 for Play Station then you can't miss this remake. It's better in every way that you would want as it's in HD. It has the very familiar 3rd party camera angles coupled with Steams graphic engines makes for a very real and scary run through the mansion. The developers out did themselves on the fright factor. All I can say is save often and avoid becoming a Jill sandwhich.
Liked this a lot more than I thought. Very "charming", very difficult and very fun. Voice acting is kind of lame. Other aspects near perfection. 10/10
Game is really good and a classic, and Jill is hot so that's a plus too.
I bought a GameCube JUST FOR THIS GAME and it was worth every single penny! It was Amazing back then and its still Amazing now! 10/10
Only gets so much praise because of nostalgia. It really is a bad game that feels like it was made to sell guide books before guides became free on the internet. I hate games that require an external guide or walkthrough to progress and unfortunately this is one of those games.
***EDIT***
After attempting to play through it more to at least get my money's worth, I can confidently say with my whole heart, that this game is mega doodoo trash. I guess it was acceptable when it came out due to lack of competition in the genre. It is really just boring as shit to play. Nostalgia is the only reason this game is relevant anymore.
About half way through Resident Evil I got fed up with the esoteric puzzles, and since I loath relying on walkthroughs, I haven't finished the game.
Despite that, I absolutely loved the parts of the game I did play, and would highly recommend this game. The setting is especially fun. Every twist and turn is crafted with loving care.
The save system isn't for everyone, and at time it was annoying, but overall, it did enhance the experience. All of the game mechanics add weight to the world. Choices matter.
Resident Evil feels more like real survival horror than most fancier, newer survival horror games I've played.
This is not just a landmark Resident Evil Game Its Also the pinnacle of Remakes this game is everything a Remake should aspire to be it takes mostly if not everything from the original and expands and improves upon it. This game is one of the best in the franchise and should be played by everyone that can manage to I understand some are unable to get the hang of the fixed camera angles and the lack of hand holding of he game but i would highly advise everyone not just resident evil fans to give this game a try i would suggest if you are using mouse and keyboard to use the original tank controls it make movement far smoother.
This game doesn't completely replace Resident Evil (1996) like so many YouTubers say it does. There are things that game did better, like how the naked zombies in the lab were scarier because of that moan and the fact that they kept getting back up. Instead, this remake compliments the original, which is what a remake should do. Unlike the remakes of 2 and 3, which seek to replace their source material, this game is a new way for Resident Evil fans to experience a beloved classic. It subverts your expectations from having played the original, because it's meant to be played after you played the original. The original Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3 from the 90s are available on GOG for PC, and you should definitely play them instead of just the remakes here on Steam. But definitely play this remake.
It's pretty nice to finally have the opportunity to play this exclusive game launched to game cube decades ago. The original Resident Evil (1996) was the first survival-horror game I played when I was 7 years old. I'm playing on Linux through proton, I had some issues using nvidia video cards and CG videos, but it's working with Linux+intel ok. Somehow the game on Linux using my nvidia card only works using Proton 7.X. I would like to know how to fix, but even searching online on protondb the people suggestions didn't work for me on my machine.
Thanks to the fixed camera angle, this game is pretty much unplayable. And you never know where next to go or what to do. Very outdated, and no I'm not just modern. Also, the story and lore is so fucking complicated, confusing and keeps me overthinking at night. Had to watch a summary video cuz this game is shit.
It's fascinating how the template to some of the best survival horror gameplay is just right here, fully accessible in a no-issues PC port, and yet nobody in the industry can replicate it. Not a dozen indie games, not AAA games, not Capcom themselves. Well if this doesn't sell, then why don't you de-list it, Crapcom? Just keep RE4 up, delist this game. Go on. Nobody wants more of this, that's why you REMADE it and then remastered the remake. Right?
Morons.
Good remaster, though it changed a lot from the og and I didn't like much, the graphics though is amazing.
A quick spoiler on how the game works: You have this mansion to explore, there you'll find a crest to open a door to open a painting to open another door to another painting, but then you gotta go back to the first door because you forgot the crest, by then it's not resident evil anymore, it becomes Dino Crisis.
A great game with poor quality-of-life features.
The fixed camera angles, inability to drop items, rigid aiming mechanics, and lengthy door-opening animations in older games were "limitations" imposed by the technological constraints of their time. These features don't inherently hold nostalgic or classic value. If the developers from that era had any choices of getting modern technologies, I am sure that they would choose to fix these. So, instead of blindly praising these issues for their "classic" status, it’s important to critically evaluate them and acknowledge their shortcomings rather than excusing them simply because they’re part of an older era.
world's first crank type game, excellent crank gameplay for real crankers only
this game made me sick with all the perspective changes and odd controls.
it feels lik,e this game is running on a potato with how slow everything is moving and that the audio and video dont match
