Fun game. Not difficult and doesn't take too long to complete. Entertaining
Family man is a weird goofy game that makes you want to play more and more to see ever possible result of your actions. Fantastic game totally worth adding to anyone's library
This would have been an interesting little game if it wasn't for the TIME LIMIT.
Seriously dev why would you put TIME LIMIT on a game where most of the missions involved figuring things out for the players themselves?
You also have to watch the stats of your family household which consumes time and money while finding money to pay for your debt in a very small time frame. Such a waste of a game.
honestly, i didnt like the game in the start. plot was good, but there was the occasional bug, missions got bland, didnt even know how to complete some missions, but i felt kind of excited honestly when i saw i *spoilers*had a choice with lawrence. after i had completed the game, i didnt understand the ending at all. 5/10

Finally played this after having it vaguely on my radar due to CallMeKevin.
This is a somewhat open-ended game where you roam around an area completing quests for money to pay off the mob, while also keeping 4 meters up so your family doesn't starve or leave you. Luckily, 2 of the meters can be reliably filled with chicken wings and the other 2 can be kept topped up by doing 1-2 chores per day and being home by bedtime every night. Money is a bit more difficult, if you're trying to stay at good karma.
The game features 6 "main" questlines and several side questlines (although don't mistake that for length, the longest questline in the game is actually a side one). The main questlines contribute to which ending you get, while the side questlines just give you money and XP. You use XP to buy perks, some of which are helpful and some of which are basically useless.
Besides quests, you can earn money by doing endless jobs, either legitimate jobs or shady jobs for the mob. Unfortunately, the game is very unbalanced in this aspect. Maybe they were trying to make the point that it's easier to be evil, but working legitimate jobs earns you (depending on the job and your rank in it) something like $50-$100 in a hard-set 3 hour timespan. There are two legitimate jobs, both of which are pretty simple. Meanwhile, by doing hitman jobs for the mafia, you can easily finish a job in under an hour and each one earns you $250. But it's higher risk, right?
Not really. I didn't do low karma until my 3rd playthrough, where I discovered the crime system in this game is EXTREMELY lacking. It's probably the most disappointing part of it. There's only one crime: Murder. No one gives a shit if you murder someone, except the game's single cop. If you kill someone's cow, they don't care. When you murder, it adds to a wanted star like GTA, but this doesn't cause cops to chase you. Wanted stars only matter if, while you have them, you walk near the cop. The cop stays in the same place, and the stars go away after like 10 seconds, so unless you're just stupid you'll never get in legal trouble. At first I thought the hitman missions were cool because I was stalking and waiting for my victims to enter alleyways before I realized I could just kill them in broad daylight and no one would care.
The questlines are interesting enough. There's pretty much 0 nuance to the choices you make, it's either bad or good, but I still enjoyed seeing them through to the end and seeing the different outcomes. You do get some cool rewards for finishing them too, which change depending on the choice you made, but considering you don't get most of them until the last few days they feel like they end up barely affecting the game.
Now my issues with the karma system. I don't necessarily mind how simplified it is, if that's the story the game is trying to tell. However, you get a lot of bad karma for making bad choices but barely any good karma for making good choices. Furthermore, most of the questlines REQUIRE you to do things that lose you karma to progress them. If there is a way to avoid the bad karma, it usually just involves throwing money at your problem. Also, since opportunities to gain karma are few, you basically have to buy a bunch of food to donate to a food bank to get karma up. So to get good karma you have to spend a bunch of money, but the things that actually give you decent money give you bad karma. Again, maybe this was purposeful design as some kind of social commentary, but it made the good karma route a lot less fun to play.
Overall, this game gives you a decent sandbox and story to go along with it but is also fairly flawed. That being said, I did enjoy it enough to get all 4 endings, and felt like a speedrunner by the last one lol.
It's okay. The game play loop is lacking to put it nicely and I called the "twist" on the second or third in-game day as it's an extremely common trope, especially in video games.
I don't feel like I wasted the 3.5 hours it took to play through it but I'm not going to get the other endings, it's not very compelling.
