I've realized today that this is my fav game ever made. Modded/Un-Modded, there is enough content in this game that I put well over 300 hours into it on my 360. Now I'm putting even more hours into it on pc a decade later. I'm still finding new interactions & stuff I missed, it's that magical and I'll never grow tired of this game. There will never be another game like Fallout New Vegas and it's tragic
Simply the best Fallout. One of the last great games of Bethesda and Obsidian.
fun game. im sure theres a way to play it fast paced but i find this game relaxing
After playing this again more than 14 years later from my first playthrough as a kid, Fallout NV Still a top 5 RPG ever made, even today.
The story, the factions, the companions and weapons all come together in this game to make it one of the best in the Fallout series.
The fact you can approach most quests in a multitude of ways to get an outcome is brilliant, such as ways to deal with Benny when you reach him at the Tops or how to deal with the powder gangers when you first start in Goodsprings. It truly makes you feel that you have the ultimate choice and not the game choosing for you and saying its an RPG.
All the factions and endings have their pros and cons which makes your choices that much harder and your companions will show approval or disagreement based off some of these which is a great touch for 2010.
Glad to see the DLC has also held up from when i played and you can tell this had a lot of effort put into the world building and story telling.
Not to mention, no characters in this game are un killable as well. leaving you full choice to do what you want as a true RPG experience.
Overall 10/10 would recommend
keeps on freezing my pc when i try to load saves. i dont have any mods installed so thats not the issue. great game but definitely a waste of money on steam.
Boring game. Don't tell me about the story because it doesn't fix the bad gameplay and empty lifeless world that just isn't interesting.
Will crash occasionally, but besides physical issues it is one of the most thorough games in the Fallout series
I gave this game 2 long attempts at vanilla playthroughs and both times I ended up dropping the game to the insane times it crashed and how the game felt old and sometimes annoying regarding things like movement and gunplay.
I already considered this game to have some great world building and both main and side stories were written with a lot of love and thought behind them, so I gave it one more chance after many people recommended me to mod the f**k out of this game and I cannot insist enough on how much this game improved, I barely saw any crashes compared to my original playthroughts, loading screens turned out to be super short, I could tab out of the game, so many QoL was added into the gameplay from visuals, weather to combat systems and even animations making everything feel more solid which prevented for most of the burnout I encountered in my first playthroughs and this allowed me to finish what I consider one the best stories told through this medium.
Yes, it is a grind to get through the bugs, and yes the graphics are outdated. But man... it is so worth it.
Fire your writers and hire obsidian to write every fallout game from now on thanks
I love this game, it's my favorite one overall.
Love the wild west type of feel, the mechanics, the setting.
All in all, give this game a shot. Gunplay is a bit dated, which is to be expected, but as an rpg it's one of the best.
The game is very replayable, lots of factions to choose from, questlines to follow, and even after 500 hours in it I still find new things.
Not to mention the mods for it are great of course and can make it x10 better. Lotta issues like crashing, bugs, etc can be fixed by them.
very great world and story with amazing dlcs
Never gets old
amazing game, you could easily put in 200 hours into it. Highly recommended because it just proves you don't need the latest graphics to make an amazing game with hours upon hours of fun.
An amazingly written story with fantastic gameplay. A game i would recomend to whoever asks.
Constant cloud sync errors. Can't even get the game to open.
By far my favourite Fallout game in the entire series. Classic game!
the pinnacle of western RPGs. i love how the DLCs are interconnected with one another and how it directly ties-in with the main story. however, there is quite a bit of jank and you need numerous mods (Viva New Vegas) to even get it running on modern machines, but this is an experience unlike any other.
Very good game. a lot of choices, outcomes, funny dialogues, can be good, bad, or neutral.
Even with mod support, the game has tons of crashes. It's sadly not playable anymore :(
Far too buggy. Will not stay stable even with applied bug fixes and patches thru vortex. And this in in 2025 long after bethesda should have all patches in place. just junk.
Fallout: New Vegas – The Gold Standard of Open-World RPGs
Hours Played: 7.4
Fallout: New Vegas is a masterpiece of storytelling, player choice, and RPG mechanics. Even though it's an older game, its branching narratives, deep world-building, and freedom to shape your character's journey make it one of the best RPGs ever made.
The Good
✅ Unmatched Player Choice – Your decisions genuinely affect the world and story.
✅ Engaging Story & Factions – Multiple factions with deep lore make every playthrough unique.
✅ Classic RPG Mechanics – Dialogue skill checks, perks, and roleplaying freedom are top-tier.
✅ Expansive Open World – Exploring the Mojave Wasteland is rewarding and full of secrets.
✅ Incredible DLCs – Some of the best expansions in gaming history (Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, etc.).
The Bad
❌ Dated Graphics & Clunky Combat – Aiming and animations feel stiff compared to modern FPS games.
❌ Buggy Without Mods – The game is infamous for crashes and glitches (but mods help a lot).
❌ Slow Start – The early game can feel rough before you get good gear and perks.
Final Verdict
With 7.4 hours, I’d say Fallout: New Vegas is still an RPG masterpiece that’s worth playing despite its age. If you love deep roleplaying, great storytelling, and impactful choices, this is one of the best open-world experiences out there. Just be prepared for some technical hiccups along the way.
Rating: 9/10 – A flawed but legendary RPG. 🎰☢️
Met a cute girl in the desert. My VATS said I'd had a 0% chance to hit that.
10/10. such realism
amazing story and game play and the mods are fun and unique compared to fallout 4
Great game but Crashes every other loading screen causing you to Save an annoying amount of times and killing the vibe.
One of the best games ever made, written by some of the best people to ever do it, modded by some of the most talented people to ever love it.
My most played game on steam for a reason. The sole reason I want to move to Nevada.
Play it vanilla (or Viva NV), then mod it as you like or download a collection after your first play through; do EVERYTHING.
Infinity/10.
The last good Fallout game and one of the last good CRPGs ever made.
Follow the Viva New Vegas Extended guide, add a few of your own mods on top of it if you must, but DO NOT install any outdated (Pre-2020) scripts, needlessly big mods (Open Strip/Freeside) or anything made by incompetent modders (Check the 'Mods to avoid' tab on the VNV page) and you'll have NEAR zero problems with this fantastic game.
Always check the 'bugs' and 'posts' sections on anything you get from the nexus.
Best fallout game. HOWEVER this pc port is the crappist, laggiest, slowest, constantly crashing piece of absolute crap! No matter what mods I install or no matter what I change in options, IT ALWAYS CRASHES! It's 2025 yet still?! FIX!
Very good game. a lot of choices, outcomes, funny dialogues, can be good, bad, or neutral. Unfortunately the game won't allow you to kill children
Fallout New Vegas is a very. very good game.
Often called "One of the best games of all time" and better in every way than Fallout 3.
The story is well-written, the atmosphere is great, the role-playing systems are important.
But it has its flaws. The combat is mediocre. The graphics are low-quality.
However, people don't care. Because it's just that good.
The game is very fun, but on some systems it requires some work to make it run and even more to make it run without crashing, let alone smoothly
Despite how rough around the edges it is this is definitely one of the best fallout games ever. The dlc is absolutely the best in the series
This game is the best, I swear. You can either help the government, Ancient Romans, a robot that only exists to hype you up, or a slightly less evil Walt Disney. You can have a companion who's battle strats are "Punch" and "Punch again", Elvis asks you to fix his cyborg dog, you can gamble at a bunch of casinos and you get to sleep with Chandler from Friends if you play as a female. One day, Josh Sawyer snorted a line of Pop Rocks and decided to make an amazing Fallout game with cowboy music and gambling, and we bless him for it daily.
It is a fun story filled game it's the best fallout game ever unlike 76 which in my opinion fallout 76 can go die in a ditch but this is the most fun fallout game i have ever played besides fallout 4 this game and dlc's are a master piece but i wish bethesda would make a game like this again and revive the good gameplay and storytelling like New Vegas and keep alot of the horror aspects that fallout 1 and 2 had and the addition of the creation club and modding capability like fallout 4's with mods you can install from the mods section of the bethesda website and if this review somehow gets shown to bethesda maybe they'll make a game like this again and not make a failure like fallout 76 and NOT have a multiplayer with millions of people on it just like 76 but a 2 to 4 player co op mode and a singleplayer mode and where it can be like all of the dlc's from all the games 3,new vegas, 4 and have the option to go to california and visit camp navarro and acctually allow the enclave to exist in a larger form along with all the other factions from over the years and it would kinda be like the fallout show where every game is mashed together and full of refrences and if fallout show season 2 comes out if harold from fallout 1, 2, and 3 is mentioned which harold isn't even a reference anymore because hes been mentioned in every other game of the fallout franchise so i really hope Todd Howard can have the balls to make a game like this again and revive the fallout franchise entirely so Maybe bethesda may do this in the future and if they do i hope so anyway Bethesda if you somehow see this go back to the old ways of making fallout games like this one and thank you for the post apocalyptic game franchise we know and love P.S hope you make another game like new vegas again thank you
Through and through this game is amazing to play i love these games you get to side with people that you want to side with 10/10 would recommend to fallout players and new people to the franchise Enjoy!
Great game wish there was some mods in work shop tho that doesnt matter all that uch
good game best fallout idk what else to say also the modding community is good or diabolical on nexus
One of the best games ever made! Has its flaws and stutters, but those have been taken care of by the community mods. Great TRUE rpg.
Played for hundreds of hours on console before getting a PC just recently. Pretty much the same awesome game but oddly enough I find it harder customise my character's appearance because the PC character customisation menu sliders behave differently. Sliders have greater effect/are more sensitive on other sliders, making it hard to make changes to characters without warping features excessively. Anyway. I like the themes/styles of the design of the game. The graphics still look good to me in my opinion. The freedom of this open world RPG and having it populated by so much content is awesome. The story of so many quests are well written and so are the characters. I love that unlike on the console, I can fix broken quests as well so that's a big bonus. Unfortunately modding this game has been very stressful and a big headache. I hope others have a better first time modding experience than I did. I tried following ESO's channel instructions only to find out his mod list is broken from their Discord Admins. Had to find different mod list vids. I suggest reaching out to verifiable and trustworthy FNV mod communities to have a better experience with modding.
Awesome story. Awful system glitching. If you are easy to run off patience, this isn't your game. Otherwise a masterpiece.
9/10 runs like steven hawking without his chair (to get his chair back, please download mods)
don't play the game without mods, its unplayable. also don't play on a computer, its also unplayable.
the best fallout game and one of the best games of all time
Bugs but that's to be expected to a game that's almost 14 years old
yes... you basically should just chose the legion everytime because its like playing on easy with cheats against the NCR
Thought this game was supposed to be a work of fiction but it was just a virtual look at the Nevada desert.
great game but these stupid ass crashes RUIN EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely recommend this game it's really good, don't buy this game if you don't want or try to understand the storyline of this game because then you'll say it's boring and confusing. I really like when you reach level 20+ you are starting to be powerful like almost can rule the whole Mojave wasteland.
-graphic is good for it's time but if you care about good looking graphic games then it's not this game
-gameplay is good you can troll some npcs and kill em and you can buy weapons from Gun N Runners but dayum it's expensive but it's worth it
-storyline is the best, if you like reading then you'll love this game because the writing is masterpiece (I hate reading but I like fnv)
-the downside is the game is going to crash sometimes in a random moment, I once encounter this every gameplay then I installed some mods to prevent the crash and it works (I forgot what is the name of the mods but I watched a tutorial on yt how to stop fnv from crashing)
What I like about this game is the adventure vibe, wandering through the wasteland and encounter some random things, I really like cowboy movies so when I play this game I pretend to be one. I also like the music in this game the genre is classic and folk.
I've played this game more on Epic Games. It's a good game, but doesn't beat Fallout 3. Play that one instead.
I just finished my first playthrough and loved it! The game is fun for anyone but especially fans of Fallout , the weapons being more realistic than in Fallout 4 is something that stuck out to me in a good way :) , and the abundance of companions and side quests/stories is amazing!
This is in my opinion the best first person RPG ever made. Obsidian really knocked it out of the park with this one. The world of Fallout is one of my favorite to visit and this game has plenty to explore. Something to note is that much of this game is set in an open desert which I admit isn't super visually stimulating but there's plenty of unique spots to find within the desert and it makes finding towns and settlements that much more enjoyable but your mileage may vary. In terms of gameplay, this game does show its age in more ways than one, however I don't think this takes away from the game at all. Specifically the shooting in this game is a little janky and hard to get used to but personally I feel this adds to the experience because of V.A.T.S., the sort of auto aim mechanic in the game. Personally I don't have many issues aiming as I've gotten used to the game but for newcomers it can be a learning curve. In terms of the RPG aspect, this game passes with flying colors. You can customize your character a variety of ways and (especially without the DLC raising the level cap) it rewards you for doing multiple playthroughs by trying out different builds and perks. As for the story, there are multiple factions to engage with and the game gives you almost complete freedom on how you choose to deal with all of them. You can even reject them all and form your own path. The soundtrack is also phenominal from both the in-game radio and the overworld music. One minute you'll be listening to classic jazz and country tracks, the next you'll be listening to the creepy ambience as you explore a new cave or abandoned building. The voice acting also leaves little to be desired, with stellar performances all around for basically every character in the game. You will find that many characters sound quite similar, with voices like Liam O'brien and Yuri Lowenthal being used all over the game. This might detract from your immersion but personally I think they do an excellent job with all of their roles and make most of them sound unique. The main game of Fallout New Vegas is excellent in every way I could think of and delivers on everything I want from an RPG. That being said I found the DLCs to leave a little to be desired, especially Dead Money. A fair warning for new players, if you go into a DLC area (aside from the Lonesome Road) you will not be able to return to the main game until it is finished and all of these areas are very high level. The stories of these DLCs also continue and expand on much of the story of New Vegas's base game so I would advise to play them after finishing the game for the best experience. Dead money has a great story but is very flawed. If you did not level any melee abilities before going in, you will most likely have a hard time playing catch up because the guns found here are either not good or are hard to come by. It also has a mute character who uses sign language. Cool idea, horribly implemented. Honest Hearts is some more good old fashioned New Vegas to run around in and I personally found it very enjoyable and it expands well on the main story. Old World Blues is the wackiest of the bunch by far. Many new unique weapons to find and some great quality of life upgrades for your playthrough. I didn't really care for the story, the main characters will talk at you for literally almost 20 minutes straight with nothing interesting to say other than "funny" fart jokes to keep you entertained. Thankfully there is an option to skip all this dialogue which I have used to great use on my many playthroughs. Finally, The Lonesome Road is a great capstone for the game. Your mileage with the story in this one may vary, but the gameplay in this new area is fantastic with many new challenging enemies and awesome areas to explore. With that being said, I do not think the DLC is mandatory to play to enjoy New Vegas to it's fullest. I think the best part of the game is the main game and I often don't even go into the DLC unless I'm doing a full run. If you've been on the fence about trying this one, or even just want a good game to play, play it. It will be worth your time and money. 10/10
