Far Cry® 4

This is the third platform I’ve played this on, and it has gotten better each time. It should’ve had steam achievements working from launch day!

awkward family story with ur father-in-law

Very formulaic but the formula is fun. I got this in a humble bundle years ago and decided to play since it just got steam achievements. It's pretty much the same formula as far cry 3, but with more content and a weaker story. Personally I like the mountainous setting more than the tropical setting of Far cry 3. It's more interesting to navigate, and once you finish exploring a section of the map you can just wingsuit off a cliff or use a glider to go check out a new place. Running around, completing side quests, and grabbing collectibles is very fun. I'm not impressed with the story so far, so I've just been playing the game is short bursts where I run around, complete some side missions, and then play a story mission. The gameplay is a little jank at times. Interaction ranges feel to short and vaulting ledges feels clunky. Overall I'm having fun, but if you don't own this already I would maybe check out the newer games instead as they are probably less clunky and have the same formula + more content. I don't think you would want to play this game and then Far Cry 5 or 6 as I feel after I complete this game I will be a little tired of the formula for a year at least. Still very fun and scratches the Skyrim style open world itch.

grew up watching my brother play. will never get tired of this game. from the graphics to the commentary to the story mode farcry 4 has so much to offer with zero bordem.

This game is absolute trash in 2025. This game can only be played in fullscreen with aspect set to auto or it shifts the entire game off your screen, even if you only have one monitor active. I also get no sound in-game. Every other game in my library (300+) works fine except Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4. Ubisoft sucks. Gonna try Far Cry 5 next, but I'm expecting a similar result. Avoid this trash.

OH, MY, GOD

So first of all, the game itself is completely OKAY - fun to play, long game play (even though a bit repetitive) and good graphics and MOST IMPORTANTLY if you are NOT interested in getting all the achievements then I can only fully recommend this game to any.

BUT

If you ARE interested in getting all the achievements, well then good fucking luck because the multiplayer CO-OP achievements are almost impossible to get because in this 21st century, somehow Ubisoft is of the attitude of "fuck all" and is not able to provide with stable connections between two players and whenever you are trying to host / join a session the game either crashes on your side or the other guy's.

I somehow managed to get the achievements nevertheless, but with a 4th person and on a 3rd take after trying to obtain TWO achievements for 7 long hours.

NEVER AGAIN I'M BUYING A UBISOFT GAME with achievements on. No thank you, sir.

playing it on a laptop with a 16:10 resolution and got black bars on the screen.... but hey, we got achievements now...

To play Far Cry 4 you first need to waste 1-2 hours to:
1. Install mod to skip cutscenes (coz they all are unskippable in game)
2. Install mod to skip cutscenes by pressing spacebar (experimental)
3. Find, download and manually install English sound (coz game is region soft locked)
4. Every frakin time change interface language coz it resets on every game launch
5. "4uck ubisoft"

Tyranny of opening production credit screens, cut scenes, can't get mods installed. Basically DOA.

If you ever wanted a little bit more of Far Cry 3, then this game is perfect for you.

While it doesn't make an enormous leap of change from the standard Far Cry 3 Formula, I feel like this Far Cry 3 Gameplay but perfected.

The Villian, Pagan Min, is great and really is the only great person in the whole story. The Golden Path Buddies all are insufferable and really makes you hate working for them.

This is one of my most favorite Far Cry Series so far. I would hugely recommend it to you if you are looking for a solid Open World Game with the standard Far Cry Formula.

Far Cry 4 was amazing game. Great story and beautiful graphics. 10/10

The game mechanics are the same as in Far Cry 3, but there's a lot more to it!

This is the first Far Cry game I played on Xbox years ago. I basically 100% completed the game, and now years later decided to play through the game on PC. Far Cry 4 is just as amazing as I remember it to be! I enjoy all the Far Cry games, but this one in particular since it got me hooked on the series. They also just added steam achievements to the game which is great!

Unable to start the game anymore, even if it is shown in my ubisoft connect.
Back in the days it was fun, thanks for breaking it.

Very good story, pay attention what your last decision is, and you'll get the best ending in my opinion.

Gameplay is good but the story seems a little bland. There is not much character development for the main character but all in all it is an enjoyable game

Bought it on sale for 5$ because I remember I had a blast with it 12 years ago. Game is still great and that nostalgic feeling hit me hard. The only big problem I have which is very annoying is the random crashes... It usually happens when I access the configuration menu and the error is with the gameprofile.ini file.
I modified it to fix a mouse problem but now, even after deleting it and letting the game recreate the file, I keep getting constant crashes...
Still a great game for its age, though.

I have waited 10 years to play this game and it was worth it. This possibly best game from the series. The soundtrack fits perfectly and the story and the characters are amazingly written. Playing this game is pure joy. Oh and even if you are not 100% completionist, don't forget to do side missions for certain characters (Jogi and Reggie, Hurk (DLC) and Longinus for the reward he will give you), you surely won't regret it.

Far Cry 4 is essentially Far Cry 3.5. It doesn't feel like a full mainline sequel, but at the same time it doesn't feel like a simple expansion to FC3. There are a handful of new game-play mechanics to differentiate itself enough from the other titles, but there's not much more to boast about otherwise. Regardless, it's still an incredibly fun and well-made open-world action game with lots to do and see. The far eastern setting is full of aesthetically-pleasing eye-candy thanks to its high visual prowess, making traversal and exploration around its large map enjoyable. This game gets the cold shoulder and a lot of undeserved flak because of its shortcomings, though it's nowhere near a bad game. It's not as groundbreaking or refined as the other mainline Far Cry games, but it's still worth checking out regardless.

I absolutely love this game and was so excited to see it on sale and do believe people should play it but also want you to know i made the fatal mistake of just wanting to make my own maps and create outposts and now my game doesn't start after only playing for 10min, its very concerning that a game that is 11yrs old now still is doing things like this so dont use the editor at all if you want to play this game

Doesn't top FC3, but it's also absolutely amazing. The scenery, the vibe, the Story. Hell yeah

Good story great villain (be cause they have a connection with the protagonist) Amazing for a 10 year old game it think and replayable has multiple endings

Getting emails about logiins via VPN (yes I have VPN) abou the lame 'Requires 3rd-Party Account: Uplay (Supports Linking to Steam Account)'.

I will not buy any UbiSoft products again. Upholding the need for external accounts on a 10 year old game is retarded.

Just as good as I remember when I was watching old videos on it. Would highly recommend, especially on sale.
The story is pretty good and the game play is fantastic. The balance is pretty good as well.

when everything was wrong in my life i always had this game. this games story, activities, hunting and scenery is amazing. i wish there was a remake where everything was overhauled tho, have some really great memories on here and have much love for the game none the less.

10/10 FAR CRY 4 IS PROBABLY THE BEST IN THE SERIES.

it is so hard to say if 3 or 4 is the best, and this is my unbiased opinion. I grew up with 3 and loved the hell out of it, but playing 4 in so long, on pc for the first time i might have to say 4 is the goat. Absolutely recommend, full price or even on sale.

Definetly a major retouch on the Far Cry 3 formula, although intial reviews indicated that the story wasn't too dissimilar than that of Far Cry 3 I would completly disagree, the story of Far Cry 3 only has a linear path and only one choice matters and it was definetly a lot more gameplay focused than Far Cry 4.

Although I was going to NOT recommend this game because of Ubisoft's "Connect" service, they revamped in a way that doesn't get in the way, offering the player to either play online or offiline, something that these days in 2025, is unheard of.

Kyrat is a lot more dense, the fact that it's only land throughout unlike Rook Island, mostly surrounded by water. The topology of Kyrat is roughly similar only in the regard that you have two halves of the map where one is initially locked-off, then as you progress you unlock the northern part of Kyrat when in Far Cry 3 you started from the north island and then unlocked the south island.

FarCry 4 has a lot more to offer gameplay wise, the addition of mechanics like sidearm inside of veihcles is definetly the highlight. You don't know how scummy I was using my M79 grenade launcher from my autogyro.

I've mastered this game fully, I have a 100% on my save file, just like in Far Cry 3. Perhaps what left me a little bit to wish for, is the recquirements to unlock certain "signature weapons", especially the Ripper which can only be unlocked after liberating all 4 fortresses in the game, by the time I obtain the Ripper, I already have the Buzzsaw unlocked which is a much better LMG than the Ripper and also, there isn't much left to do after that, you cannot use it anywhere else... Unless... You decide to reset all outposts from the game menú! What a fine addition for replayability, although it's only fun for a while, it would be better if game developers reverted to make "Game+" modes available where you can redo the campaign with all the stuff you've unlocked, and without getting distracted with collectables.

Pagan Min is quite the sympathetic villain in confront of Ajay, in fact, I guess the vitriol he had against him isn't quite justifiable because he never learned about his home and how important the royal family was to Kyrat, Ajay should only see him as a crook which he was asked to bring down. Perhaps I am short-sighted in this regard considering his delicate familial situation (his parents weren't good people either, especially his father). I don't have a burning hatred of him as a player, but of course he's our enemy and a criminal and the objective was to get rid of him and so instead of shooting him outright, I listened to him, we laid Ishiwari's ashes in Lakshmana and then I shot down his helicopter with the Buzzsaw... I love that gun even if it wasn't the gun of my choice until the endgame.

I would love to see my stats on Far Cry 4 like Far Cry 3 displayed them, however the stats which Far Cry 4 offers isn't thorough and only shows a few things like how many Pagan's Wrath convoys you took down, how many trucks you've destroyed or brought over to the Golden Path. Those of Far Cry 3 showed you quite literally everything to the most minute thing, heck, it even displayed how many lizards you had killed despite they were not animals which you could gather hide from, minuscle lizards!

Regarding the animals: Don't tell PETA about Far Cry as a whole.

I bought the game but when it got downloaded i opened and ubisoft connect asking for a activation key which i did not get alongside my game sname issue for Far Cry 5.

Far Cry 4 is an improvement on Far Cry 3 which was already an enjoyable game. It has better graphics, better gun play, better open world. The few things that Far Cry 4 is lacking in is in its main character, Ajay Ghale, who doesn't struggle the same as Jason did with the fact that he has essentially become a mass murdering war criminal, and in the story itself which gives me little reason to care about the Golden Path nor fighting in the civil war, especially when Pagan Min WANTS you to be his friend. That is the most interesting part of Far Cry 4, Pagan Min, the villain. He is likable, charismatic, and generally fun to both see in scenes and to hear talking to you. The secret ending if you just wait at the table like he asks you to is arguably the best ending in the entire game. Far Cry 4 is an obvious recommend, it does what it does well, and while it does get a little annoying at times with how often it likes to take all your fun toys away from you, it doesn't overstay its welcome in my opinion.

Farcry 4 was my first open world so I'm not going to be very objective, clearly a lot of mechanics were taken from Far Cry 3, as Ubisoft does so well. But Far Cry 4 is for me the only Far Cry with such a feeling of freedom, the landscapes, the interactions with nature are so pleasant.

The lore is very interesting and the story entertaining. Rabi Ray Rana's humor is nice. Far Cry 4 was released in 2014 but the graphics are still as very very nice.

This is the second time I've finished it, I still have this little frustration of making this cornelian choice between Sabal and Amita even if I don't like either. Pagan is such an interesting antagonist because for once he's not 100% bad and that's what makes him so endearing.

I don't think it's a game that will please all players in 2024 but I can't recommend it enough.

as we know far cry series has been really doing well after FC3 , i have been played far cry 4 over 20 hours i don't know after this review how much playtime i m gonna get.
As an third person shooter fan this is my first fpp game that i've played recently. after fc4 i kind a liking fpp mechanics and in the future i will try to give a chance to FPP games.

I can definitely say that this game has lots of content to offer. I love the gun mechanics when i tried first time shotgun in this game it feels awsm . now get to the point i love the game and everyone should try it once

A very fun game with an exotic/believable setting, an engaging gameplay loop, and a serviceable plot. I think it has aged better than Far Cry 3 and has a better setting than Far Cry 5. Definitely worth at least one playthrough.

Pros:
Can be completed in 15 mins.
Story is pretty good
Lots of stuff to do.
Lots of weapons from pistols, explosives, to bows.
Stealth is actually a viable strategy. Sometimes even needed.

Cons:
Absolute LACK OF TESTING of the northern part (so 50% of the game).
Grappling sucks ass. You get stuck in rock models and have to kill yourself to get out. Or you get the rope stuck in the rock models or the bell tower wood models and can't climb. That happened mostly in the northern part tho. Enjoy 10 minutes of throwing grappling hooks to make them not bug out.

Neutral:
Wingsuiting can be a big gamble. Can't count the number of times the wingsuit was deployed by accident and i died.
Wallet can hold too little money. Even the fully upgraded one is too small. Make stuff more expensive, add more stuff to purchase, or remove the stupid limit.

Playing it for the first time, I actually like it a lot.
Graphics are fine, the world looks pretty awesome.
Storywise, this one is a bit more coherent and less "crazy". It has fun elements without getting too much overboard, contrary to 3 and 5.
The gameplay improved from 3 and I think it still holds up to this day.

A classic I loved it, played it on my PS4 for the first time a really well put together game I loved the story 100% would recomend this game.

Nice open world and somewhat of a story but there are so many small issues that destroys the fun.

The main things are wingsuit related. the most glaring bug is that while you can jump down a few meters without taking damage you are stripped of all health if the wingsuit deploys before you land. As the wingsuit deploys while sprinting (you are holding shift down) this happens a lot.
Wingsuit flying and hitting a tree instantly kills you, which is ok if you hit a large tree head first, but this also applies to flying a bit above tiny skinny weak trees. And also when in the parachute.
Parachute does not work if you are not in wingsuit so you can't jump off a cliff or the buzzer and only open the parachute.

Superficial divider of the map, I cleared out the kings bridge and then was told that I was outside of the map. Turns out there was a wall but the game could just say that instead but instead it just killed me.

"Mission will fail if you leave the mission area", and when I leave to abandon the mission it kills me and respawns at the mission. Only way to abandon is to fast travel so I had to make the trip again as I wanted to do something else close to the mission.

You get a grenade launcher as a handheld that you can use from buzzer and vehicles, which is a lot of fun but makes the game so easy and completely removes the need of any of the other guns.

Every cut scene with a gun uses one of the worse pistols that you never actually use.

The completely unnecessary alien bs.

Sites that you can clear out that then does nothing. Apparently because they are part of storylines.

So many parts of the story just jumps to something unexplained. One of the weird yaga tangents I got a prompt to kill a named character I never heard of, then to performe a takedown of that character, then he lived again. That went on for three times without explanation.

Just poor game design, scripting, story telling and gameplay testing of an otherwise nice open world experience.

It requires a mandatory ubisoft account and executes a launcher first. And they take away access to the game and DLCs if you forget the password to the account.

This game and the Ubisoft company are a bane to their customers.

Farcry 3 was so good they made it again and tried to pass it off as a different game. I spent 18 hrs doing the exact same thing i did in 3 but with a wing suit now and if play on the hardest difficultly you'll spend more time healing then playing the game. overall could be worse could be farcry 1 or 2 but i'm barely recommending this.

Shooting at random people at the Himalayas while listening to some music i don't understand is quite fun. Underrated far cry series imo, probably because 4 is an unlucky number. 8/10.

I have completed FC3 and FC Primal, but about this Far Cry.. Story is absolute gorgeous, gameplay is good and easter eggs are pretty interesting including Pagan Min. Got this from blackweek sale and not gonna regret it. Next going to play Far Cry 5 but im recommending also this. Also other characters are good and i like it so much in Far Cry series how u need to decide between missions and how thats gonna affect your ending in game (Good/Bad/Alternate/Secret). In my opinion Far Cry 3 has still my heart, been completed it twice.

I think this is honestly the best Far Cry game in the series.
The villain is fantastic, the graphics hold up, the drug trips / Shangrila episodes are inspiring and I really love some of the first person animations.
