One of the best games i've ever played. I can't stop coming back.
I love Ace Combat but this feels like it expands on everything. I'm a pilot irl and aside from Nuclear Option, nothing comes close to how much fun this game is.
Finished Ace Combat 7 and want more .... followup with this game and you will not regret spending on it.
Total masterclass in continue the legacy of the Ace Combat series. This do not disappoint. Developers know their tasks in delivery one the best aerial arcade fighter simulator.
Miss the real planes from Ace Combat. However, Project Wingman is more fun to fly and fight. Not easy yet not impossible to beat the best in single player mode.
Well refined, stylish, and overall, intense. It has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had with a game.
The aesthetics both in landscape and colors have a lot of charm and identity, pretty sure you will recognize each mission just by glancing at it, and the storytelling is so inmersive and strong that whenever you finish a session the briefing of the next mission feels like a preview to the next episode of a series.
And it wouldn't work without a fantastic gameplay, even on keyboard the controls are a charm, very satisfying to use, and you can tell the performance difference of each plane right away, the only criticism I have it's the special weapon toggle, I feel its hard to tell what weapon you have selected after the text with its name vanishes from the screen when choosen. But the rest feels instinctive, if you play in hard get ready to put it to the test, evade and use chaff like crazy to stand a chance.
The soundtrack is perfect, it fuels the whole game. And about the doubts some may have regarding this game's value for fans of the genre (And the main inspiration for it) I'd say PW shines with it's own light, it may be also about dogfighting but the gameplay still feels fresh and original, even as someone experienced in the genre, there's a lot new to discover here.
In terms of criticism, just a few things, the first hangar feels a bit too dark, I can barely see the plane, and I still have yet to properly put time into Conquer Mode, but I'm having some trouble understanding it's objective, but I'm excited to see what else I can find. Overall, I greatly recommend this game to any fan of the genre, and to any casual player looking for an intense experience with heavy but no intrussive storytelling and a high but forgiving and addictive skill tree.
Had a bunch of fun with the game and the DLC. The game has a bunch of plans to toy with and mess around and the bossfights are wonderful when they're presented along with the good chunk of missions, I would definitely recommend buying this game.
Project Wingman is the ultimate power fantasy for anyone who likes military planes. It doesn't try to be anything else, and it succeeds at doing so.
Just to get this out of the way—this is NOT a flight sim. If you're looking for any kind of realism, you're at the wrong address. Taking turns that would kill any human instantly? No problem. Carrying 6–12 missiles like a normal aircraft? How about 200+ missiles, bombs, and a gun pod. Stuff like that is the norm in this game, and it's precisely what makes it so good.
I am not an ace pilot. I would die before leaving the runway if you gave me a jet—assuming I could even manage to get the thing running in the first place. I don't really want to learn how to fly a jet, though. I'd rather just be good instantly and dismantle enemy forces on my own right away. Project Wingman (and the Ace Combat games) allow me to do that without reading manuals for hours like in DCS.
Speaking of Ace Combat, Project Wingman fits in with those perfectly. In terms of direct gameplay, I would say it is even superior to Ace Combat 7. However, the mission design and UI do lag behind a bit.
All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who likes Ace Combat or fighter jets but isn’t looking for a simulation.
Great game, Frontline-59 the DLC is even better.
The sky is orange and hot, and so are my PC. 10/10 would nuke cascadia again just for the fun of it
fire game, just wish it wasn't missing some must-have planes like the f22 raptor, the su57, etc. overall great game.
It's like Ace Combat on steroids and had lore inspiration from Fallout. Very cool game, I hope they do more with it!
Atmospheric combat flight shooter with an interesting lore. Totally worth its money!
A masterpiece of a soundtrack that comes bundled with a game about being tracked by 5 missiles at once
Project Wingman is one of the only games i will never regret purchasing. I just wish i could experience it for the first time one more time
Easily one of the best single player games I've touched. For the full asking price it is worth every cent
Having played both Project Wingman and Ace Combat 7, I definitely prefer this game. Both are fun, but AC7 feels more of a grind to get to the part of the game that I really enjoy (and I'm not a fan of the mission timers). Sometimes I just want to fly around and shoot things, and PW definitely delivers.
The new DLC starts to tease an interesting story that I hope they continue with future DLCs.
This is the best game I've played in such a long time. Even though I rarely play this due to having already done everything I can for this game I still like this masterpiece.
While it is not necessarily a bad game, the dogfights (which are the bread and butter of course) feel way less entertaining then in Ace Combat 7.
And while I do not dislike the fact that there are a good two handful of planes, the models you can get feel very boring and repetetive compared to some broader variety in Ace Combat 7.
The clear upside of the game is that you can configurate the key settings of the controller however you like.
very underrated, best arcade plane game in my opinion
A fantastic arcade flight sim, with great music, some memorable fights, and ORANGE.
RIP Sunny D Dimension final boss.
This game is truly incredible. You can feel every ounce of passion that went into it. The gameplay, voice acting, and characters all feel incredibly smooth. Every environment looks amazing, and I love the attention to detail when it comes to things like the weather. If you liked Ace Combat, then you'll love this. Even if you haven't played Ace Combat, you'll probably also love this. I highly recommend it!
The build up to mission 11 is worth it buying the game alone, and if you have the dlc and then play the first mission of the dlc immediately afterwards, its even better. The dlc is great too, lightning struck twice, make sure to fly a two seater as well. This game didn't hook me with the story as well as AC7 did but they did a damn good job at doing something similar with a smaller team and less resources.
Absolutely get this game if you can. I've finished the campaign 3 times already and will probably go for a fourth. Nothing compares to wiping out a screen full of targets with one button
I love it! That is what i can say! You start playing easy, then normal, then hard and last mercenary. And every time you are having the fight of your life and having fun. It gets annoying when you get shot down and you start the mission from the beginning, but to avoid that DO NOT GET SHOT DOWN.
10/10
Nuclear bombs and fun game-play makes any game worth buying
Wonderful Ace Combat like arcade-y flight sim. Fights are fun, fast paced, and just complicated enough to make them not get boring.
The aircraft selection is a bit sparse, especially coming from AC7 with all of the DLC, but there's enough to enjoy.
The storyline is okay, but nothing special. That being said it is on par with the stories from any of the Ace Combat game.
Pure fun arcade shooter. Expansion made enemies a little more challenging. The music is very memorable. Even replaying after a long time, its still as fun as ever.
I played this game a few years ago on Xbox and really enjoyed it. Playing it a second time a few years later is still a ton of fun. It's similar to some Ace Combat stuff but I appreciate and like this game a bit more. Like full axis control of the aircraft you fly (Full access to roll, yaw, and pitch). This isn't a fighter pilot sim by any chance, with some non-realistic details, but it's a fun creatively built video game to play. I absolutely love the campaign, 21 missions, which some are simple, others come with surprises you don't expect. Music is absolute fire. I love Project wingman and continue to play it. Cheers to the dev's
Project Wingman blew me away—it's pure, heart-pounding aerial action from start to finish. Each mission had me on the edge of my seat, feeling like an ace pilot in an intense dogfight. And that soundtrack? Absolutely phenomenal! It amps up every moment and makes the experience unforgettable. If you're into high-energy, arcade-style flight games, you simply can't miss this. Honestly, I couldn't put it down!
Pretty good aerial combat game. They have a great catalog of fighter aircraft. All of the aircraft are variants of legacy fighter/multi-role aircraft. So you won't find any 5th generation aircraft in this game. If you like aerial combat then this game is definitely a must-have.
Honestly peak, beating this in just a few hours was not a waste of time. Would try the campaign in hard now. Story is kinda short-ish like 8 hours tops but very enjoyable. This is my very first plane game and it's very good.
Would recommend 10/10
Project Wingman is a 10/10 indie game. The perfect arcade fighter jet game for anyone, with a unique world and decent story.
The Good
Pure Arcade fun. Live out your top gun inspired, fighter jock fantasies
10/10 Sound track with a song fitting for each mission
World and Setting - Takes itself seriously despite how insane the story is, and makes it work. The voice actors sell the characters despite the limited time you get with them.
The Bad
None except its too short. Leaves you wanting more, luckily there are many post-game modifiers to augment multiple play throughs and a rogue-like extra mode.
True embodiment of "Planes rad, war bad"
Extremely fun combat and missions made by an indie dev team that easily rivals triple A games.
Great game, but fucking hell, I hate the collision in this game. I literally make one turn mistake, and it's instant death. This game also doesn't provide midpoint checkpoints, which makes it even more frustrating. I have to stop playing and take a breather because of how frustrating it can be sometimes. I don't think it would harm the game if you didn’t make collision instant death. Maybe just make the plane take 50 percent damage or something. That would be great. But overall, the game is great.
this has an The best video game soundtrack, Amazing gameplay and a story on par with Halo reach. Playing the campaign and was a series of Emotional ups and downs leading to an amazing climax. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants an arcade flight game that takes itself seriously! 11/10
Game is phenomenal! Love the controls, music is amazing, its a very good experience.
Though I retract my previous statement, it is still very bitchy with gpu drain
TL;DR: One of the best indie games I’ve ever played. A raw, passionate love letter to the Ace Combat series. Sure, it can rough around the edges, but honestly, that only makes it more endearing. Beggars can’t be choosers, and in this case, I wouldn’t change a thing. Oh yeah, and its only $30 CAD.
Ace Combat has always been a relatively niche genre, one that most big studios tend to overlook. Project Wingman doesn’t just nod to that legacy, it fully embraces it, and in doing so, delivers something that feels both familiar and new. It's bold, unpolished in places, but it's alive - and for fans of arcade flight sims, it's everything we’ve been missing.
I played it with a flight stick and VR, which took the experience to a whole other level. I remember being eight years old, playing AC4 on the PS2, dreaming of what it would feel like to actually be Mobius 1. That dream never left me. And this game? It made that childhood fantasy real. Sitting in the cockpit, flying low through mountain valleys, missiles lighting up the sky- it wasn’t just fun, it was transformative. Few games have ever made me feel that sense of awe.
Is it perfect? No. There are bugs, frame drops, janky lines, and an obsession with the colour ORANGE. But when you remember this was made by three people? It’s astonishing. The ambition, the polish where it matters most, and the sheer love poured into every mission, it’s clear these devs cared deeply about what they were making.
And then there’s the story. I didn’t expect much, if I’m being honest—but this game left me stunned. Like, sit-back-in-my-chair-staring-at-the-screen level shocked. It dives into themes of nationalism, identity, the morality of war—all without preaching. And the way the game shows rather than tells... It’s the kind of emotional depth most AAA studios aim for but rarely achieve. I was thinking about this game long after I put the headset down.
There’s a kind of beauty in how Project Wingman wears its heart on its sleeve. It doesn’t hide its flaws, but it never lets them get in the way of its purpose. It knows exactly what it is, and it doesn’t try to be anything else. It’s raw, emotional, and driven entirely by vision.
I don't know. Maybe I’m just sentimental. But this was more than a game to me, it was a memory come full circle.
I got this game for the VR and it was great (a bit laggy at times) and I felt like I was there in cockpit. When I played without it, smooth gameplay (apart from controller binding issues and I saw two rival boats go through each other and nothing happened), good soundtrack and a decent story. The ending kinda blue-balled me when the final screen had a short message. But if you think about it, you are a mercenary.
If you fail or die, get ready to start the mission all over again.
Overall, I enjoyed this game. A good alternative to the Ace Combat series as the VR capabilities was the main selling point (my VR is old now and it didn't work very well after a few years).
7/10
A great game for us ace combat fans!
Stunning story,solid controls!
More aircraft could be added.
Overall great attempt from a small studio.
Better than Ace Combat 7. The story, the characters, the gameplay, and the intensity all swell as your own passion does for the game with each passing mission. It's a game that grows on you naturally, which I haven't seen in any other game. I mean that as in you and all the characters treat it also like a game: "Just another contract", but mission by mission, everyone starts getting more into it, caring more about what's at stake, and so do you. You become part of the conflict, part of the world. It's fantastic.
Tl;Dr better than Ace Combat 7 because the characters, story, and gameplay actually feel genuine and flow much better compared to the story and gameplay of Ace Combat 7.
I dont usually review games but this game is something else, the best EVER game about aviation i've EVER played in my life, if ur an aviation fan I HIGHLY AND STRONGLY suggest this piece of absolute masterpiece, god i loved this game soo baddly, thanks for this amazing experience Sector D2 and Humble games!!!
Fun. Long missions. No checkpoints after an hour of dogfighting. Mods are ok.
Very fun action-packed gameplay with an absolutely KILLER soundtrack!
Hard difficulty isn't a much of a challenge for veteran players, but the hardest difficulty and the gameplay modifiers, which you unlock after beating the campaign, more than make up for it
There's also a Conquest mode for even more replayability
The only downside is the standard americanish military movie dialogue, but that's to be expected
This game will probably be one of the most heart wrenching but ampungst the best games ive ever played. Its definitely up there with ace combat and takes on a life of its own. I hope that the devs create more games within this series
Budget Ace Combat is still Ace Combat. Solid aerial gameplay, more than a dozen sexy, fighter jets "based" off real world models, and a well written story with complex characters. There's also a rogue-like mode for if you just want to shoot missiles at stuff without all that plot getting in the way.
Best non-Ace-Combat Ace Combat game available. Graphics are fine, performance is stable. There is also rougelike mode available. Only cons are the lack of licensed planes, but its really a non-issue and couple of bugs here and there.
10/10 the whole way through, absolutely loved every single bit and will be playing multiple runthroughs.
Cool game, The Campaign mode is quite interesting with a well developed story (or stories, considering the new DLC). The Conquest mode is frustrating, only one life is not enough, and after a certain scenario the points accumulated are not useful anymore.
This game is total cinema. I loved the campaign and the heartfelt credits in the end by the developers stating they know the game is not perfect and has its flaws but they are proud of the work they've done and as they should be!
Excellent flight game that never demands time limits on you and has you stressing out or else you fail and have to start from the beginning of a tedious level, just pure raw dog fights or wrecking havok on ground targets. You restart the level all over again by your own failure and it makes you rethink your strategy and do better until you succeed.
Good game
As a small indie dev's work, this feels close to be playing on Ace Combat's classic title (From Air Combat/Ace Combat 1 to Ace Combat Zero). Although I did not liked the mission's length, one attempt that you need to restart whole progress if your plane crashes. However the game is really worth playing if you prefer more Ace Combat classic experience and just like flight shooter. My one of oshi (Reimu Endou) played this game three years ago but the game really looks amazing.
For smoother experience, I recommend finding workthrough on a web which weapons and missiles are recommended, just like Armored Core 6.
tl;dr: Best game to relive the classic Ace Combat experience.
great game with VR. you can also play it with HOTAS!
