I dont usually review games but this game is something else, the best EVER game about aviation i've EVER played in my life, if ur an aviation fan I HIGHLY AND STRONGLY suggest this piece of absolute masterpiece, god i loved this game soo baddly, thanks for this amazing experience Sector D2 and Humble games!!!
Fun. Long missions. No checkpoints after an hour of dogfighting. Mods are ok.
Very fun action-packed gameplay with an absolutely KILLER soundtrack!
Hard difficulty isn't a much of a challenge for veteran players, but the hardest difficulty and the gameplay modifiers, which you unlock after beating the campaign, more than make up for it
There's also a Conquest mode for even more replayability
The only downside is the standard americanish military movie dialogue, but that's to be expected
This game will probably be one of the most heart wrenching but ampungst the best games ive ever played. Its definitely up there with ace combat and takes on a life of its own. I hope that the devs create more games within this series
Budget Ace Combat is still Ace Combat. Solid aerial gameplay, more than a dozen sexy, fighter jets "based" off real world models, and a well written story with complex characters. There's also a rogue-like mode for if you just want to shoot missiles at stuff without all that plot getting in the way.
Best non-Ace-Combat Ace Combat game available. Graphics are fine, performance is stable. There is also rougelike mode available. Only cons are the lack of licensed planes, but its really a non-issue and couple of bugs here and there.
10/10 the whole way through, absolutely loved every single bit and will be playing multiple runthroughs.
Cool game, The Campaign mode is quite interesting with a well developed story (or stories, considering the new DLC). The Conquest mode is frustrating, only one life is not enough, and after a certain scenario the points accumulated are not useful anymore.
This game is total cinema. I loved the campaign and the heartfelt credits in the end by the developers stating they know the game is not perfect and has its flaws but they are proud of the work they've done and as they should be!
Excellent flight game that never demands time limits on you and has you stressing out or else you fail and have to start from the beginning of a tedious level, just pure raw dog fights or wrecking havok on ground targets. You restart the level all over again by your own failure and it makes you rethink your strategy and do better until you succeed.
Good game
As a small indie dev's work, this feels close to be playing on Ace Combat's classic title (From Air Combat/Ace Combat 1 to Ace Combat Zero). Although I did not liked the mission's length, one attempt that you need to restart whole progress if your plane crashes. However the game is really worth playing if you prefer more Ace Combat classic experience and just like flight shooter. My one of oshi (Reimu Endou) played this game three years ago but the game really looks amazing.
For smoother experience, I recommend finding workthrough on a web which weapons and missiles are recommended, just like Armored Core 6.
tl;dr: Best game to relive the classic Ace Combat experience.
great game with VR. you can also play it with HOTAS!
The level of Air-to-Ground carnage you can unleash is on another level even compared to Ace Combat 6. As is the air-to-air carnage, come to think of it. The controls feel smooth and responsive, I genuinely prefer the way this game feels to play even over AC7, a game made by a larger team with much greater resources. It's also on par with that game in almost every other respect except the graphics, which you really shouldn't care too much about anyway.
Be sure to install a mod that makes every plane a Two-seater so you can get the bonus WSO dialogue in every mission.
Great tribute to AC, less cheesy dialogue. Graphics aren't as good as say AC7, but the weather effects are perfect by comparison. No pesky "missile" aural warning, more missions. I was skeptic at first but I am happy with it. Bought the DLC to support the Devs too. If you are a fan of AC, you will feel at home with PW. Hopping for a part 2 to continue the story.
"Project Wingman is away" -actual line from the game
cinema
Project Driver: You are the Wingman is not just a great game, it is an amazing experience.
I didn't believe it at first, as I was one of many who nosedived into the salty drink at mission 1, but I kept playing.
I got better, I learned how to dodge the ground, then missiles, then big planes, in that order.
I also learned how to shoot the ground, then planes, then big planes, in that order.
Even while using a mouse and keyboard, I felt like I was flying a plane. I have no doubt a flightstick would only enhance it further.
Before long, I was flying through the hellscape, on the highway to the danger zone, with a newfound love for I.T. .
You want that last sentence to make sense?
Then get this game, and have your orange juice on hand.
Pax Federation.
Tonne of fun. The lack of checkpoints is a little irritating, especially if you die at the end of a mission...but I get what they were going for with it, and honestly it never puts me off coming back. A great Acelike if you finished Skies Unknown and want more, like I did. It's slower paced but more thoughtful, and for its price well worth buying.
Everybody Dies, The west coast is a nuclear wasteland and I can see nothing but orange now but that's ok, cuz I had fun.
Not sure if this is a hot take, but this game has better controls than ace combat 7 imo.
Voice acting was terrible (some of the audio is downright inaudible due to the megaphone effect), story could've definitely had more time to cook, in those respect AC7 wins hands down. but considering this dev team is microscopic in comparison, I'll forgive these flaws.
Buy this game, if you play war thunder, if you have any interest in military aviation, buy this game. I want a sequel lol
It's a bit short, but it's nice to have a game that doesn't take like 4 months to 100%. Only issue is that some achievements aren't working, but that's minor compared to how good the game is.
Arcade-y jet fighting game. Throw realism out and enjoy the show.
I think I remember an interview with the developer saying that the world needs more Ace Combat, or words to that effect. I can confirm that they have brought the world more Ace Combat and that can only be a good thing.
So worth the money even at full price. I don't say that often.
its awesome, you fly plane and shoot down bad guys. its so fun that i play it in my dreams, yes in my dreams. whenever someone makes a vague reference I explode, literally. This game is so fun you have to play it or else you'll never live your true, most fulfilled life. 10/10
Project Wingman is a fun game. I highly recommend it over something lke Ace Combat 7. It's both cheaper and it's in my opinion more fun and creative. That and the OST for both the main game and frontline 59 kicks ASS.
Great take on the Ace Combat formula. Clearly made with love. I've kept coming back to it throughout the years as it's got some of the best gameplay for a arcade flight game in the modern era. The story is kind of like fan fiction with loads of dialog that's difficult to follow, but if you sift through the attempted character development, you can grok the basics of each mission briefing. Regardless, for a 3-4 person dev team, you can tell they really put their heart into it and you gotta respect that.
TLDR: The flying, combat and gameplay is outstanding. Tech progression is good enough. The graphics are excellent. The music is banging -- especially the DLC tracks. 10/10 as far as arcade flight combat games go.
A great arcade fighter game, with the additional bonus of VR support to really swivel your head around. Played with an Xbox-360 controller no doubt a real HOTAS setup will provide an even greater experience. Amazing campaign with a moving tone about the war in Cascadia. Characterisation of fellow and foe is done well especially with a mute protagonist.
Yet to try Conquest mode, but should be good.
bought it because ace combat stayed for prez 10/10 funny plane game is a must buy for people who like orange, jets, explosions, insane female co-pilot, nuking commiefornia, and conquest mode my favorite mode
Great game. Plot is present but gameplay is amazing. Havent played ACE COMBAT yet but will because of this game.
In one word - brilliant. Does all the things you would want in a combat sim, familiar enough for AC fans, but does a few things (such as weapon choices) even better. Hard to believe this is not a final game release from a large studio. 10/10 would recommend. And the music - like with AC - is legendary.
Amazing Story Amazing Music and just Amazing in general. it is my first time playing a Flight Game. and I am Happy that this was the one I played first
For not having an ace combat game for 6 years this game filled that ich for a fun arcade flight game well worth the money it has great lore and great characters over all a solid 9/10 game
Before the dlc update it ran amazing on deck now it runs like trash with maxed out gpu on medium settings. Sub 20 fps. The game is good however i wont recommend it for any steam deck users.
I was looking for an Ace Combat type game and this nailed it. Like, it’s the same game engine and physics and everything. It’s also replayable in the conquest mode. If you like Ace Combat, this will scratch that itch.
This vedio game does not use deatail map in gameplay. Beside that this game will test your twicth reflexs and reactions and acaracy of shoting tagerts and plane skackes as well, rebanding the controls yaw and thorttle help too.
Gameplay 8 out 10
Sound track 8 out 10
UI 9 out 0
SFX 10 out 10
I've played through the main campaign 3 times on progressively harder difficulty.
I've completed the DLC on hard.
I've now as per just now completed the highest difficulty for the main campaign and had the pleasure and honor to fly some of the coolest aircraft in the game.
I have not played many plane games, but I can definitely say that this game, also known as Orange Plane Game, is a grand and worthwhile experience from start to finish.
(Except for Eminent Domain, that mission is a huge pain (affectionately))
Extremely fun arcade dog fighting game. This game feels pretty much like an ace combat game (as it was intended to I believe), so I highly recommend this for anyone who is an ace combat fan. The game definitely leans a bit more into absurdity in the plot, but it honestly works to the game's insane tone. If you can accept the absurdity of the plot sometimes, the main campaign is legitimately great. The flying is great and it is pretty much what you'd expect from an arcade dogfighting game. Overall, big recommend for anyone who likes arcade dogfighting games.
(pick aoa limiter instead of flares if you wanna do crazy turns)
Fantastic Ace-Combat-like and one of the most impressive indie games ever made (It's unreal how polished the experience is having been made by only three guys). While graphical fidelity is lacking when compared to contemporary AAAs, the UI, lighting, and overall composition/attention to detail makes for quite the visual treat. Gameplay is what you'd expect with interesting adversaries from the air, the land, and the sea alongside a motley arsenal of planes and fun weapons to employ. Quality of VA work ranges (being composed of volunteers) but is overall quite good. All the aforementioned comes together to solidify the military pastiche making for a great campaign experience.
If you like ace combat, you'll like this game. Had a fun time with the campaign & the visuals are great. The story is decent but nothing to laud over. Each mission was interesting in its own way. Great soundtrack.
Great game, top tier soundtrack, I'm not usually one for flight games due to their complex controls but Project Wingman was very easy to learn. My only minor gripe is that even after completing every mission (Both the main game and Frontline 59) on Mercenary Difficulty I never got any of the achievements for completing all of the missions.
Also Prez best girl. Eye-Tee's a close second tho.
Extremely well done product considering the price. It doesn't have the AAA budget to compete with some of Ace Combat's flair, but it is extremely impressive and still retains a professional feel. I respect the team's commitment to no checkpoints, however, I am an adult man now and I don't always have time to replay missions over and over. Very interesting world and great visual style. I would highly recommend this game to any fan of Ace Combat or someone looking for a relatively cheap arcade-style flight game.
Seriously a fun game. I have the thrust master HOTAS warthog and it works great with the game. took about 5 minutes to key bind everything and i was good to go. wish there was a multiplayer option on this game.
Do not watch a single video on this game, just trust me. Go in blind. If u like flight sims high action and a shit ton of stuff going on, Its for you. But just, go in blind some of the stuff is crazy
Absolutely phenomenal game. Love the arcade feel while also being 'somewhat realistic' Would recommend. Also the music is amazing!
Great Arcade Flight Simulator. Can play as a someone who's never played air combat games or an expert with hundreds of hours on multiple flight simulator games and still get something out of it. Well worth a go.
11/10 game. Emotions? High. Lore? Deep. Soundtrack? Immaculate. Setpieces? Perfect. Friendly AI? Actually helpful. Enjoyment? Extreme. The final boss had me going insane not from frustration but from adrenaline, and it was the happiest a game had made me in a while. Buy it.
Super fun game, cant get away from it. As a lot of people state, its a more arcade feeling Ace Combat.
I highly recommend Project Wingman, if you came here after playing Ace Combat 7 you will not be disappointed with this purchase. Compared to AC7 I like the characters, gameplay, and story a lot more! The few things AC7 has over this game would be music and accessibility. The music's overall good and it has a few pieces that are on the same level as AC7, as for accessibility when I first started the games the controls were very different from what I was used to. Project Wingman doesn't have toggle presets for flight controls as AC7 does (i.s. STANDARD and EXPERT) but after some tinkering, I was able to get the controls to be the same.
Its price is also acceptable currently being $24.99 US for 21 levels and VR support compared to AC7's $59.99 for 20 levels. If you buy the game I'd also recommend getting the DLC which is only 4.99 for an additional 6 levels.
Lastly, if you like the color orange you’ll like this game!
7/10 game. inspired by ace combat. If you like that then its a simple yes to playing this. otherwise you simply Take plane blow things up. Listen to a fairly good story that's alright . characters reacting and enemy freaking out about you. sadly does have a few negatives.
1- Eye level orange level. When the floor is Orange fire. the horizon is orange. Your HUD is orange and your enemies are marked in orange. very easy to loses them, The last level made my eyes bleed.
2- Missile spam and enemy spam. even on normal difficulty the amount of missiles this game throws at you is insane. Resulting to having to pick piece by piece. you won't be able to just rush to the objective. and this ties into the worst issues. Not even issue just bad design feature.
3- NO CHECKPOINTS. Sweaty Fan boys will cry out "Git gud" But the reality is that having no checkpoints. Doesn't make the game harder. Its just makes it more tedious time waster. when missions last 15+ minutes long. I don't see why i should have to re-fly 2 minutes each time before the battle even starts. Even more so when missions have additional enemies/objectives spawn in after you destroy the initial ones first. Coupled whit the missile spam. its very easy to destroy all the enemies taking half your damage and then suddenly take a random missile hit from the newly spawned group. forcing you to do the entire first section again.
FRONTLINE-59 missions are amazing.
Didn't expect last mission to be so EXPLOSIVE!!
GENERAL FAUST NEEDS CORRECTION!! uwu
The soundtrack, gameplay and final boss are amazing, a must buy if you like action-flight games, will try campaign mode and the DLC later.
I've been meaning to try Project Wingman for a while and finally got round to it today. So much love from the community, 'very positive' ratings. It's clear to see why. It's a no-nonsense 'get in there and fight' job, with 1st and 3rd person cam, missile cam, loads of different planes to unlock and all sorts of missiles, guns and bombs. The only problem I have is the same issue I've had with all vehicle games since I switched from KB+M to gamepad: Whoa - too twitchy! Steering, roll, etc way too sensitive.
Doesn't seem fair to blame any individual game for this. I expect somewhere along the line it's Microsoft's fault - most things are, right? :) All I would say is that none of the in-game curve settings have helped. Still, there's a bunch of 3rd party tools and online suggestions I'm working my way through in eternal hope. Meanwhile, the game's still playable and enjoyable. Turns out futuristic gung-ho fiction and explosions are fun. Cheerio. :@D
I still can't stop playing this game the graphics are amazing the story is absolutely got a lot of depth and as a Californian and in the area of Presidia. I am a Cascadian through and through proud to be Cascadian. FREE CASCADIA FROM THE FEDERATION.
