Dogfight, strike, and fly through combat zones based off an alternate history of Earth. Either over the cold waters of the Bering Strait, attacking tanks in the brutal environments of Yellowstone magma fields, or diving through the Redwoods to strike targets of opportunity in the Pacific Northwest, across the oceans, above the scarred lands of the world, this war will take you from exotic battlefield to exotic battlefield, all while going up against odds way above your pay grade.
Pure Combat Flight Action
Exotic weaponries such as railguns and geothermal-powered armaments will be ready to pluck you out of the sky if you're careless. Whether you are an attack aircraft pilot, skimming the ground with a gatling gun and rocket launchers attached to your wing, or an interceptor with long range, almost sniper-like missiles at your disposal, it will be up to you to prove yourself as an Ace pilot.
Conquest Mode
In Conquest Mode, fight in an uphill battle against various bosses and ace squadrons in a territory capture game, drawing elements from roguelikes and RPGs. Players will have to earn enough money to not only purchase new aircraft, but build a mercenary army of their own in order to take on waves of increasingly difficult opposition as they struggle to take on a myriad of changing missions.
Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality headsets will work in-game to put the player in the cockpit of aerial warfare, immersing themselves in head-swiveling combat. Combine this with full compatibility with HOTAS peripherals and custom axis curves, and you will be able to experience the game however you want, using any DirectInput supported peripheral you like.
Key Features:
- Fly in varied and exciting scenarios and locations unlike you've ever seen before
- Engaging single player campaign
- Over 20 different aircraft and over 40 unique weapons at your disposal
- Fight different kinds of adversaries such as giant mechanized fortresses and railgun cannons
- Test your skills in Conquest mode and fight against hordes of adversaries
- Want a different Conquest experience? - Adjust it with modifiers to your liking
- Beautiful 3D Volumetric clouds rendered with TrueSKY

I have finished both the Main Campaign and Frontline-59.
The end Mission of Frontline-59 wasnt too great but overall an amazing DLC.
The Main Campaign was AMAZING.
As an AC7 Player, I was hesitant about buying this game for a very long time, and now that I did buy it I do not regret it.
This is THE best Game in its Genre I have ever played.
The Characters are all funny, well written, and make the game feel so alive.
The Gameplay is very smooth and flying the Jets is just such a great Feeling.
My only complaint throughout the entire game is the fact we dont have Autosaves/Checkpoints, but other than that its an easy 11/10.
The MG-29 is in my eyes the best jet in the game, as throughout the entire game it can be perfectly Utilized for any types of Mission/Actions, whether the focus is on Air to Air Combat, CAS or everything all at once.
I really Hope this game will get more DLCs and another installation aswell.
Big Thanks to the Devs for making this game, it has helped me through a rough time and kept my mood up every single day.
I already knew about the last mission going into this game, its part of why I wanted to play this game having never played a game of this genre before. Its still just as good knowing what happened. Time to play the DLC!
Also WSO Prez is great I never flew a mission without her
A dogfighting game that knows exactly what it wants to be. It only excels at what it needs to excel at. Great missions, gameplay, insane OST.
Project Wingman does not play pretend or try to be anything besides what it wants to be, and that is just a fun dogfighting game
10/10 would nearly kill my WSO again
Good game if you like Ace Combat Format
However I hate that there are no checkpoints and dying at the end of a 30 minute mission making me redo the whole thing brings the rating down for me
6/10
Great story line and fun combat
Really great game, the fast and furious of flying games. Achievements are bugged out but it's still fun to get through.
its jet game akin to ace combat , if you want more jet arcade game then play this
Its a off-brand Ace Combat kind of flight sim with one HUGE upside...
This accepts HOTAS inputs natively.
Huge W, if you are the owner of a HOTAS setup for this reason alone its worth picking up.
I would leave a positive review, except I just spent ten minutes attempting to clear the first stage of Conquest mode. Facing off against a squadron of five SK.37s in a T-21 is not a fun introduction to that game mode, and it's taken the shine off the campaign entirely.
There was a way this could have been fun. Facing down high level fighters abusing AOA limiters in a starter aircraft was not it. It is absurd to think that anyone could have thought that was acceptable.
Fun game, but the latest update made it impossible to play with VR.
First of all: I played through the whole game in VR, and the first-person in-cockpit experience was fantastic, absolutely elevated the game for me
The game itself is a gem: solid enjoyable gameplay, a good variety on enemies: from jets, tanks and AA-batteries to giant ships, giant airships, giant... landships, railguns batteries, ships with railgun batteries, airships with... you get the idea. The soundtrack is amazing, especially playing mission 11 or the last mission without it would be a complete waste.
Love the work the voice actors put into the game. This is a jet simulator, so you never see other characters, but you always hear them. Like, ALWAYS. It gets to the point one of your teammates SCREAMS to the antagonist to shut the hell up xd.
The plot is over the top and I wouldn't have it any other way. Don't remember seeing any antagonist this deranged before.
The last fight is an absolute dogsh1t and an absolute cinema (As well as mission 11. Absolute cinema I mean)
Pres the best girl
If you think you can have even the slightest bit of fun from flying a jet and participating in dogfights, give this a try
If you have a VR set - this game is mandatory to play
Ace Combat on steroids with gaslighting, great characters and tactical nukes.
If you like AC7 but want something that feels a little punchier and more arcadey at the same time, this is the game for you. I definitely liked this one more than AC7.
Like Ace Combat but with more enemies and more targets. Pretty good with an amazing final boss fight.
Exactly the game I was looking for. The perfect middle between hard-to-master-Simulation and Arcade-auto-lock. I'm gonna waste a lot of time with this fun game!
Impectable, a perfect game, with an amazing DLC to boot. I only wish for more planes and perhaps more two-seat fighters. I look forward to whatever the team decides to do next.
First of all, this game is ORANGE.
I love Project Wingman and tend to play through it about once a year. This game's story is replayable and it has a KILLER soundtrack. On top of that, you don't need intimate knowledge on how a plane works or an entire flight sim rig to enjoy this. A controller works fine.
The main game is anime plot levels absurd. I won't get into it due to spoilers, but it definitely gets unique. (And orange)
The DLC is worth getting as well. It works best when playing it either before the main story or after Mission 11 (Cold War.)
The Conquest Mode is... interesting. It works to a point, but it really is not worth playing except to 100% the game. The grace period of "fun furballs" does not last long before you are legitimately fighting over 400 aircraft. This will eventually lag so badly that its unplayable or it crashes your game.
Overall, I do recommend this game. The only sour points are Conquest's instability and locking dialogue behind certain two seater planes that do not scale past mission 5.
Project Wingman is one of the best arcade fighter games I have ever played. Having grown up with Ace Combat, I found myself largely disappointed with Ace Combat 7, which was a game that felt super silly and gimmicky and left me feeling underwhelmed. I entered Project Wingman expecting something of a clone of Ace Combat, and what I ended with was an evolution of that formula, not a copy of it. The HUD and controls are largely familiar to AC fans but the dogfights are far more engaging. The planes handle like a dream, the visuals are gorgeous, and the soundtrack is incredible. Its been a very long time since I've had a game have me on the edge of my seat, actually paying attention to and enjoying the story and characters. The passive dialogue was immersive and charming, your squad mates are rich with character and personality and you even have a wizzo for two-seater aircraft. The boss fights are intense and engaging and the silence as the final mission crawled out before the final credits descended was deafening.
This is not a flight sim. This is an arcade game, meant to be played on a controller. Its VR headset support is actually fairly good although users connecting to their PC with steam link may experience lag on higher graphics settings (a limitation of the headset, not the game. use a link cable). It's a bombastic thrill ride from beginning to end that at the asking price is an absolute MUST for anyone who enjoys the genre.
Ace Combat 7 hasn't been picked up since I completed the campaign out of a sense of obligation and left me feeling bored. I will be playing Project Wingman through at least twice, and then there's the conquest mode I have yet to touch. Absolutely a fantastic game, do recommend.
I had a blast with this game, The story, the planes, the map, the weapons, the special units.. it was amazing! Theres about 20 missions (without DLC) i finished only in 8 hours but it was well worth it.
There is some replayability with conquest mode which is a rogue like mode and i think some free missions and free flight. Overall an awesome game.
Me and you now. No distractions. No wingmen. No war. Just me and you, whoever wins is the best pilot.
One of my favorite games of all time but the update ruined the vibe of the game. It such a huge step backwards.
Bring back the orange.
this is a beautiful fan made attempt at an Ace Combat game, the new DLC adds some great missions that make this all the more apparent. there is still only one thing I wish we had and that was Co-op.
It's a great game for those who don't want to invest in expensive flight controllers, and just want a M/KB setup. Lots of modern aircraft to select from. The only thing I don't like is there is no free play option, and campaign quests are great but not very clear on objectives, so I get stuck on failed missions for an unnecessary amount of time, Devs need to make mission objectives more clear and prominent on the screen, and not just provide audible mission updates.
The 2.0 update completely breaks VR. The new clouds are abysmal and tank FPS like crazy
Went into it expecting a simple game that was going to be kind of fun and honestly by the time I beat the game, not only was I worn out from the boss fights but also so astonished of the story and all I did was look back and realized how good nearly every mission in this game is and Jesus was the story awesome. PS: Add more planes to fly with Prez you bastards. Flying the F-14 against Crimson-1 made me want to die
I hate to do this and clearly I'm in the extreme minority here but I don't recommend this game.
I really wanted to love Project Wingman. I've never played any of the Ace Combat games before so Project Wingman was my first experience with this fighter jet kind of game. And at first, I did like it a lot. Definitely had some thrills & exhilaration, and it was undeniably fun once I got the hang of it.
But as the campaign missions went on, I started getting annoyed. The missions just got longer and longer and longer and more tedious and repetitive. And there are no checkpoints, no manual saving, no autosaving. So let's say you're 45, 50 min. into a mission, it's surely almost done (and yea it does start to feel like that - the missions really drag on and you can't help but wonder "is it almost done yet?"), but then you crash. Maybe your wing clipped the wall of some ridiculous janky little tunnel you're supposed to perfectly cruise through or you got a little too close to the water or a mountain or whatever. Guess what? You're restarting the whole mission.
That's not fun. That's not cool. That kind of thing makes me not want to play the game anymore. I don't want to have to repeat hour+ long missions just because the developers can't be bothered to throw in a check point or saving feature despite having no problem creating these excessively long, tedious campaign missions.
Aside from the aforementioned, the game is ultimately a boring grind and the lore/background/story is nonsense. This was somewhat easy to disregard at first since the gameplay was novel for me but as the game went on and the missions became longer and more frustrating it became too much to push to the side. I also think that it would have been better if they would have just done contemporary or very near future earth instead of this alternate future/alternate universe version of earth.
Again, I really wanted to love this game. But now I'm kind of regretting getting it and wasting my time redoing long missions.
Maybe I'll come back to it at some point but I'm done with it for awhile.
It does play fairly well on Steam Deck.
Saying VR is supported is just such a stretch. VR controlers don't work, you have to use gamepad or mouse/keyboard. No way to set your headset position and default position is clipping into the canopy so when you're launching the game you have to hold your headset in some arbitrary point just to have a normal view after game start.
In-game your green HUD is overlapping the knobs and monitors as if it's on your helmet, but doesn't move when you turn your head.
In the menus, your controller/pad has no deadzone on the analog, so you're just getting jostled around and have to resort to using arrow keys/dpad.
Played it first off like itchio or some site a long time ago and then found it on steam. finished the game in 4 hours. wonderful.
if ace combat 7 didnt already exist- THIS game would have been the best air combat game i have ever played- it looks amazing and is ultra fun- i love it. (playing it in non vr mode)
I wouldn't ask any perfect game other then Ace Combat 7
it has spirit of AC also other media
it's cool and awesome, visual are beautiful, The Music are Chef's French kiss
10/10
btw Frontline 59 mission 4 you'll have a "great time" in there :)
Personally, I think this game handles the action jet game thing slightly better than Ace Combat 7 did—not that either game does it poorly; they're both great! I just think Project Wingman takes the "crazy insane nonsense" factor of the genre and focuses on it a little harder in how the planes handle, is all. You really see it when you unlock planes with the AOA Limiter extension, because why would you ever use flares when you can simply spin the plane in 4 unnecessary cartwheels and pivot 90 degrees at the push of a button? It just rules. Do it in a plane that forsakes all of its missile options for like 4 types of guns. It rules. This game is just pure fun action jet game thing, and by god i love it for that.
Also, the soundtrack is just straight bangers all the way through. The soundtrack makes this game what it is, and ties it all together. The motifs of the characters and how they reappear throughout the background music add extra flavor to music that already maintains a perfect backdrop for each mission, and just *sounds* good on its own.
10/10 orange
Just one of my favourite games of all time, the feeling of flying and combat is just so good, a very underrated game
I recommend this game.
Wow what a surprise this has been. A little indie gem out of Australia.
If you like the ace combat series you will like this. It's a bit of a shameless copy but seeing as we don't have many ace combat games on PC I think it's filling a niche that is hungry. It performs well, has an interesting if pretty generic story and definitely straddles the line between arcade and Sim. More Arcady however.
Pick it up.
И без того отличная игра, которая совершенно преобразовывается в VR, маневрировать на самолете и осматриваться головой из кокпита это мегакаеф. Категорически рекомендую любителям авиааркад в духе Ace Combat
hell yeah
this game is one of the best games i have played, especially the final mission.
the sense of progression, your skill evolving and the combat all come together to make a great experience, and the story and characters are amazing too, even if just funny or whitty.
play it.
This game has given me the urge to commit a war upon the UN and I am now frantically scared of the colour orange. Played the campaign a total of 11-12 times now and it never gets old. Highly recommend it for someone who wants a more casual arcade flight game with very neat combat mechanics... Oh yeah FRONTLINE 59 WHE-!
Edit:
As of the 21st of November, 2024, I can proudly say I have achieved 100% total achievement rate and dealt with the pain that is Conquest mode... I love this game.
The voice acting is amateur at best (Except Prez, Prez best girl)
The UI is an unrefined mess
The devs have teased a patch to solve most problems and add the console exclusive DLC but have literally vanish from the face of the earth
Even with those cons, I think this is a genuine love letter to Ace Combat, and the bullshitery goes to 11 just like in Ace Combat.
Also, soundtrack is really good.
The most enjoyable Ace Combat genre game that I've played to date.
9.9/10, needs more orange.
it's basically Ace Combat, but instead of being a poor clone like H.A.W.X. was it actually improves on the formula in a few ways. bombastic storyline that takes place in a far-future (hundreds of years) earth where the apocalypse already happened but failed to kill off humanity.
I played it on hard difficulty and once I got the F-14 I just used that for the rest of the game. It was definitely a challenge but if you ever played any combat flight game you get the hang of it pretty quickly.
overall a good action game with plenty of easter eggs for fans of the AC series and solid gameplay for those who are getting into the genre for the first time.
The aircraft with rail cannons on conquest literally can't miss. Ruins conquest mode. Which is already pretty bad.
In short, it's a game for those who played Ace Combat and crave a little more.
If you're looking for a realistic flight sim, this isn't the place. If you're looking for crazy fun in jets with 100+ missiles, this is just for you. Project Wingman offers quite a challenge, with no mission checkpoints, unique bosses, and interesting environments. The game contains a variety of jets that are desperately avoiding copyright. The core gameplay is simple, launch missiles and shoot bullets at anything in your way.
I appreciate just how much the small team put into this game. You can definitely feel the passion behind the level design, music, aircraft, and worldbuilding. It has it's flaws, but I would recommend Project Wingman to anyone looking for arcade-like air combat games, and especially to anyone who enjoyed any of the Ace Combat games.
The voice acting is absolutely awful (it CAN be disabled though) but otherwise this is a pretty decent little game. Wait for it to be on sale though, it's not worth full price IMO.
This game awoke something within me. The action, the setting, the characters, the MUSIC. It all fits together so well. Its cartoonish in its plot but thats perfect for this kind of game. It NAILS how to make you feel like an absolute BADASS. Seriously, my testosterone level spikes everytime i play this game. GET IT.
If you like the Ace Combat series, this game is for you. It has as awesome sound track and a very satisfying gameplay loop.
This game is great! My experience was amazing, i loved every mission, the combat is just as great as AC7 but with its own changes, just a bunch tho, not criminal. Tho, i would like to point out that the campaing story is a little mushy, the character "Crimson 1" wasn't very relevant... well, just like every other character, mostly due to the absence of cool cutscenes between missions like in AC7. But other then that, there are no other draw backs, if you enjoy avial combat and/or Ace Combat then this is definetely the game to play thru! Recommend on all 90/100!! fufkin amazin gaem geam
This is not a simulator.
It is so much better. Drifting through the air while firing a railgun and destroying an airship the size of an aircraft carrier for the first time is an experience you wont forget.
Definitely worth a play. Fun but challenging if you want it to be, and the story line is good to follow.
I got this game after playing Ace Combat 7, since I was on a jet game kick, so a heads up: inevitably, I'm going to end up comparing it to AC7 a bit.
In short: it's pretty fun. It's definitely worth playing if you like Ace Combat. That said, there is a fair bit of jank (which is to be expected, since PW was made by like three people.) The menus are a bit annoying to navigate, the in-game subtitles often don't match what's being said.
As far as the gameplay goes, all missions are basically the same "destroy all targets" with the ocassional boss battle. It's pretty chill compared to AC7, there are no time limits anywhere, but most missions are pretty long, and with the lack of checkpoints it can be a bit of a drag if you die.
For some positives (because I do actually like the game lol): the music is fire, you can equip multiple SP weapons, unlike AC, if you choose a two-seater plane you actually get a voiced WSO, and all the characters are pretty entertaining to listen to.
Ace Combat on crack and just as addicting.
loved seeing the initial reporting on it. but after trying to play it in just VR with a normal Xbox controller, and after looking at he forums and log, don't buy it. the game is all but abandoned at this point.
i was playing in VR with a normal Xbox controller after the game failed to detect my joystick and if i changed ANY of the mappings they would then no longer function, as in i changed throttle from the RB LB to the triggers and it would be locked to rudder now with no thrust control, alongside that the pitch control for the controller stopped working as well. if it cant even get the basics like that right after a couple years its not worth your money or time.
