Incredibly good game. It has very fun mechanics and a lot of gun selections. The story is a bit confusing but intriguing nonetheless. Overall, I had a great experience with the game
I've played this game three full times across two platforms. The story is tight, the gameplay is tight, it works from the bottom to the top in terms of gameplay design. It drags temporarily in the work camp but other than that it is smooth as can be. Damn good experience.
An engaging story-heavy shooter with pretty visuals and an amusing companion.
The story is interesting but very linear: there are no meaningful choices. Combat is a bit clunky but the weapon/vigor/rift combinations keep it fairly fresh.
Playtime for the base game was under nine hours.
I love the "steampunk" art style in this. Everything is sort of whimsical. As much as i enjoy the weapons and the gun play I almost wish this were an entirely different type of game. There is more charm in the story and characters than it has any right to have. Dialogue isn't too long winded and the pacing of action and cinematic is well done. I find that the UI isn't overly complicated and anytime I'm confused navigationally there's a button to show me what direction I need to go which is something I think most games need to have.
The plot was a terrible mess that fell into itself halfway through, and its supposedly a really bad Bioshock game in particular
Now is it a bad game in ITSELF? I dont think so. Its a basic run and gun but honestly from the perspective of someone that never plays Run and Guns, I thought this game was a legitimate blast. I adore this game for its potential, but its execution could have been so, so much better.
Im still recommending it though, because its pretty, spamming the raven vigor is very fun, and I like running around shootin folk sometimes. Plus Elizabeth is just neat :)
This game's atmosphere is one of my favorites. The dark, gritty undertones underneath the seeming utopia in the clouds just does it for me. And the music- the ragtime, the classical and gospel with microdoses of scripture ( and their twisted interpretations ) and when Cyndi Lauper came on???? It's a nostalgia joyride on my second playthrough a decade after my first. I liked the game the first time around, but the depth you get from playing this when you're older just hits different.
I get just as motion sick as I did as a teenager but powering through this story with one of the best companions by your side makes the barf worth it. My dear Elizabeth, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
Bioshock Infinite stands alone as a masterpiece. Incredibly great game, and no need to play the first two (although I recommend it, of course.)
Fantastically brilliant with a mind bending story that leaves you wondering if you "won" after completing the game. The world isn't as fascinating as Rapture but this is a great FPS and an excellent conclusion to the 'shock' franchise.
Points to Elizabeth too - one of the few game companions I haven't wanted to push off a cliff.
Same as with all 4 other bioshock games i don't know how and why it took me so long to write a review for this game . Like a game from my favorite franchise . Anyway at least in bioshock infinite there's no remastered version which is good , because then i don't have to write very similar reviews as with regular and remaster version . Anyway long story short while i understood the ending and why the game is called infinite i don't like that this game has lesser replayability in my opinion than the first two games it has only 1 ending every time . Like it makes sense as i said before , but i don't like it . And i don't like it being in the same universe as rapture , but being in the sky rather than in the ocean as first two games were there was even 4 th planned bioshock in space , but it got cancelled or something idk it's sad , because it sounds really interesting . Now as for the gameplay it's very fun and i like it even if it doesn't feel the same as first 2 games . And the plasmids aka vigors are also cool and fun and you can make combos with them . And the dlc's are also great , but more on that on the dlc seperate reviews . But unlike bioshock 2 this game has multiple boss fights which is nice unlike bioshock 2 which had no final boss fight , but had other kind of bosses . And elizabeth is good and fun and funny companion and propably everyone has crush on her even me xd and she isn't like other annoying ai companions like in other games she actually is usefull and not annoying . And this game is pretty hard to perfect game 100 % in my opinion . And as said before it's nice that they finally removed the 2 k launcher from all 3 bioshock games on 25 th november and it took them so long , because they removed it only , because of the massive backlash from it make no mistake about it . And as i said before it's not as good and nostalgic and doesn't feel the same as first two games as it is set in sky city even if it is still connected to rapture it just doesn't feel and isn't the same as first two games . I'll give this game like 7 / 10 idk .
I'm a little late to the party with this review but I just played this game for the first time a few days ago. It will go down as one of my favorite games ever. It was so much fun and the story was interesting. I'm still reeling over that ending. Highly recommend playing if you, like myself, haven't already.
This is the best FPS I have ever played. The story is brilliant. It does have some problematic concepts but the are adressed to a degree in the DLC.
Sadly the combat is not as good as the story. It feels like the developers tried really hard to make the concept of areal combat using rails work but they only managed to do it in large arena like areas. You can always tell which areas are for combat and which are not. Still the combat is fun, especially with the use of your powers.
Do play the DLC as they expand on the story, especially the second one.
Even if this game was a decade, the experience of exploring world of Bioshock is the real deal. Really fun.
TLDR: Great game, even after all this time. Different from other two but in a good way.
While the story wasn't as great as the first and the gunplay vastly different from the second, Infinite takes the formula and switches it up. It becomes more challenging, as you can no longer just carry around eight different weapons with you and nine things of health on top of nine other syringes of EVE. It's different, felt more like the good old days of Call of Duty, which aligns up well with the timeframe it was released in. Graphics definitely hold up to today, but with a lens flare and odd 'airiness' to everything that looked weird to me, but wasn't a bad thing.
All in all, they changed up the formula and did it right. This wears the title of 'Bioshock' proudly and nicely caps off what is (hopefully not for much longer, with the so-called 'leaks' of a forth game) the Bioshock trilogy.
11/10 beaten the game multiple times and yet i enjoy it each time, the design team worked wonders, the ost is emaculate and everything is beyond amazing its one off the games made in the 2010's and it has a special place in my heart since i first played it on launch day on the xbox 360.
I like this game. :)
I wish more games had duos like this, where you have a companion that isn't just following you blindly like a skyrim companion. They have things to say, they interact with the environment, they walk in front of you so you can see them and you never forget they're there. The story is well written, and the environments are beautiful and still hold up now in 2024.
All in all, would recommend.
Game and story good.
Issuing a patch to remove the 2k launcher over 10 years after release is amazing!
11/10
A absolute Masterpiece this game played it in a Internet cafe in 2018 instantly feel in love with the game and concept and the mission where masterclass. One downside the launcher why does it have a launcher,I just want to click and the game open like the good old days where you popup in your pc and then the game popup instantly no Launcher just straight to the point,Overall good game. I duly hope the devs make a new game base on infinite Burial at sea was just epic but at the same time boring so I hope they make a new game again.
A great continuity to the Bioshock saga, altough it feels a little different in terms of gameplay and reminds me a little bit of Dishonored. The graphics, sound tracks and story are amazing, but I had to customize the buttoms mapping as the preset is horrible for some actions.
It's a VERY story rich game and you learn whats going on as you play it, very similar to Bioshock 1 and 2, and if that's your jam you'll probably like it.
The RPG elements are related to customizations in your Vigor (aka Plasmids) and weapons and you can upgrade them using Silver ($) on vendors scatered troughout the game.
You encounter many enemies in the game and some can be really hard to defeat on higher difficulties such as the 1999 that you unlock after completing the game. Learning to strategize and use your Vigors correctly is a must to survive these modes, but on easier difficulties you can play with whatever you like and just have some fun and enjoy the story.
A poetry made a game! Absolutely fantastic narrative combining smart twists and surprises to finally melt your brain with the ending. Superb voice acting and graphically hipnotizing. One of the best games in history in my opinion. You would not regret playing this jewel!
"Bring us the girl, and wipe away the debt." - A Masterpiece.
I remember just blank staring at my screen with my mouth agape after the ending - being completely confused but in the best way possible. The same happened when I finished the Burial at Sea DLCs.
The story is a masterclass in writing. Elizabeth is one of the best companions ever. The plot twists, the turns, the feels you experience when you play this gut-wrenching adventure are something else. This is a 10/10 must play game and is a very elegant end to the BioShock Saga.
Do yourself a favour, and play this gem of a title. You will not regret it one bit.
amazing story and decent gameplay, just a bit to many enemy battles in my opinion otherwise it's marvelous!
Bioshock Infinite.
One of those games that represents the end of a era altogether, where base games are fully fleshed and more than just filled with necessary content.
If you're reading this when it's on sale, don't think.
Just get it, play it, experience it and relive it sometimes in the future.
Every aspect of the game will simply walk over ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN 2024.
The game simply will beatdown on games made recently and put them to shame even in other genre hands down. Story, Character design, voice acting even the bgm rocks.
Games these days just don't have so much content, let only talk about depths. All developers do is talk big these days and then when you pay for their titles you see nothing but a shell of a product.
The character you play is Booker DeWitt and you get to become him not be some confused idiot that doesn't even knows what gender it is even after looking down at it's lower body.
timeless story and gameplay. i replay the game every year. the original bioshock and infinite are the finest in the series.
very interesting story. basic but fun gunplay. Elizabeth is an amazingly realized AI companion
one of the best games i have ever played. but in 2024 the graphics doesn't look so impressive.
7/10, The storys... Alright, I guess. Gameplay is a shit ton of fun though, even with only being able to carry 2 weapons. The graphics are also fucking beautiful, haven't beaten Burial At Sea yet, though.
Edit: Finished BaS Episode 1, dropped Episode 2.
BaS Episode 1: 8/10, short and sweet, good gunplay (We can carry more than 2 weapons thank christ), decent but confusing story, just pretty solid.
BaS Episode 2: 5/10, Stealth gameplay is meh, couldn't be bothered to learn the story because of how confusing it is, im not even fonna bother finishing it, boring and slow as all hell.
I'm currently trying to work my way through the pantheon of what are regarded "classic" games especially those where the IP seems to have been retired by games publishers (e.g. Splinter Cell) so Bioshock is one more step on that journey.
I've never played the first two games by the way so I can't directly compare by as an RPG based in a steampunk, art deco world with elements of film noir and Tim Burton this game absolutely delivers. On the face of it it is a Far Cry style looter-shooter but the way in which the story unfolds is totally engrossing. It starts as a standard detective story but then gradually builds in elements of racial segregation, religious fundamentalism and mid-way through the concept of dual realities, is-it-real-or-a-future-thats-not yet-happened style time loops and a cast of NPCs to guide and hinder (or just straight up confuse you). The look of the whole game is fantastic: the daytime is brightly lit like the New England of F Scott Fitzgerald, the nights are dark and gothic (e.g. HP Lovecraft) and sometimes you just want to stop and take it in. The plot isn't just explained at the start: it gradually introduces vigors, the story of the prophet Zachary Comstock, the back story of central character Booker D Witt and Elizabeth, the target of Booker's mission. The gameplay is slick, the gunplay is excellent and the introduction of Vigors which give you special abilites add some depth (the weapons and vigors can be upgraded at various points in the game). The fighting is not too hard (on Normal mode) especially if you can master the vigors, and the AI character of Elizabeth provides ammo, healing etc at moments when it looks like you're in trouble. The plot is pretty linear: I can't recall any major side quests and there's limited scope for free roaming around the map; on the upside it means less travel between POIs and there's no over-complicated crafting system to slow down the pace, or a levelling up system/skill tree requiring any grind. Its a game that lingers in your mind long after you've finished it so if you want an RPG shooter that also makes you think then this could be for you.
great fps game with unique second power skills and a magnificent story :D
This is still one of my Top favorite games. The storyline is great and its top tier with bioshock 1!. Something i would say worth the money :3
Bioshock Infinite is very different from the first two Bioshock games but I liked it just as much as the first two. The combat mechanics are quite similar but the environment is completely different, being a beautiful floating sky city rather that a run down decaying one at the bottom at the ocean. The story is complex and involves multiple timelines in parallel universes.
In a vacuum, Bioshock Infinite is a 6/10 game. as a bioshock game its significantly worse. if you have long play sessions (longer than 2 hours at once) be prepared for a migraine inducing audio bug that is only fixable by closing the game and restarting (especially annoying if you are playing on 1999 mode since you cannot manually save and some saves can be long apart)
Its a good fps with an entertaining story honestly. the many different parts of the world are absolutely beautiful even without ultra graphics. I loved the story telling and could tell it was thoughtout and well made.
Such a phenomenal game with a very rich story and uniquely built levels! I've played through all of the Bioshocks, this one and all DLC's included, a good 6-7 times each since they released. Highly recommend.
Bioshock Infinite is the game that showed me what video games could be back when I initially played it back in 2013 on the Xbox 360. Having never played a Bioshock game until Infinite, this was a jaw dropping experience. And going back to it over a decade later, this game still shows me that it is a work of art. From the beautiful art direction of Columbia to the fast gameplay, this game still hold up pretty well. It is not, however, without it faults. Mainly those pertaining to how they deal with certain story beats and, though mostly present in the DLC, retcons of previous games and their stories.
I highly recommend you experience this game for yourself.
Region-locked, can't access Steam page without VPN.
Probably my least favorite in the series? It's really good. I'd almost say it's tied for my second favorite.
This game is great first time through and only gets better the more you play. Easter eggs right as you start!!!
absolutely a golden game even if it is so short. the story is definitely difficult at first, but the gameplay makes up for it in a charming way especially since its linked together so well.
The game starts a little slow, or perhaps I was expecting it to be like prior BioShock games. As you get into it it gets pretty good. I like the magnetic grappling hook for getting to places you would not expect to. Interesting story. I wish you could have more than 2 different abilities at a time, which makes it challenging when given the opportunity to gain (and lose) a new one.
Awesome story and twist... and if you play the two DLCs it gets times and times better - they add so much to the full story and lore of the whole Bioshock Infinite world + it ties in well with the first two games.
Incredibly pretentious game that thinks it's a lot more clever than it really is; with shallow characters, a meandering plot that abandons all the themes built up in the first half, and gameplay that is a complete and utter downgrade in every way.
I loathed Bioshock Infinite in 2013 and the rave reviews it received made me feel little the kid who could see the emperor had no clothes. 11 years later, I feel exactly the same as I did then. This game blows.
If it wasn't called "Bioshock" I'd probably hate it 10% less.
One random great thing worth mentioning: Lighting in this game was actually really well done, varied throughout different sections of the game too. Also Baguette Boy in the DLC.
One random bad thing: Never fight Songbird, spoiler I guess.
One of the Best in the Franchise!!
I personally found this game the most enjoyable out of all of the Bioshock's that have been released and have played this game is solely on you named Booker Dewit and you are playing the game shamed as the mark of the "sin" only to find yourself for twisted turn at the end of the game. This game outdid its self during its time and still go back to play this game to this day. This is very well made in the movement and making sure that the play is immersed in the game play and the story with new abilities and take downs you are able to perform. The animations and the enemies are very well made.
In my opinion this is a great game and recommend on buying this, but not at full price, I would make sure that this is on sale as a bundle just for the fact of the amount of time that this game has been out for and get the whole series so you are able to play all of them and understand the stories behind them.
Love the game. First played it on Xbox 360, never got to complete it. Now I did I feel a bit sad about the end but otherwise happy to have played the game at all.
After two adventures immersed in the aquatic darkness of Rapture, BioShock Infinite literally projects us to the antipodes: in the skies, aboard Columbia, an aerial city where the American ideal mixes with madness, manipulation and parallel dimensions. Released in 2013, this third opus, under the creative direction of Ken Levine, completely reinvents the universe of BioShock with a steampunk style and flamboyant artistic direction. Forget the Big Daddies and the dark corridors of Rapture: here, you are Booker DeWitt, a detective with a troubled past, tasked with saving a mysterious young woman, Elizabeth, capable of manipulating reality itself. So, ready to board Columbia and explore its secrets? Hold on tight, it's going to be shaking! The
Good points
Breathtaking visual and artistic universe: Gives us a visual slap from the first minutes of play. Columbia, this city suspended in the sky, is a world of fascinating beauty, with its bright colors, its levitating buildings, and its surreal aerial landscapes. The steampunk aesthetic and the elements inspired by the Universal Exhibition of the early 20th century bring a unique and captivating touch. Unlike the stifling darkness of Rapture, Columbia is bright... on the surface. The more we explore, the more we discover the cracks in this utopia, and the more oppressive the atmosphere becomes. Graphically, the game has aged very well, and every detail of Columbia reinforces the immersion.
Captivating and deep story: If you thought the first BioShock was complex, Infinite pushes the philosophical and metaphysical themes even further. Booker and Elizabeth's story mixes religion, politics, fanaticism, and the multiverse with a depth rarely seen in the world of video games. The final, mind-boggling twist remains etched in players' memories long after they put down the controller. BioShock Infinite is a multi-layered story that plays with the perception of reality and explores moral dilemmas. It is a narrative masterpiece that makes you think, surprises, and moves you all at once.
Unforgettable character: Elizabeth is not just a damsel in distress or a simple companion. She is alive, reactive, and endowed with an impressive artificial intelligence for the time. Not only does she enrich the story, but she also participates in the gameplay by helping Booker in combat, by picking up objects, and by creating time rifts to summon elements in the setting. Elizabeth is a deeply endearing and well-developed character. Her evolution, her relationship with Booker, and her role in the main plot are beautifully integrated, and she brings a unique emotional dimension to the adventure.
Dynamic and vertical gameplay: Abandons the heavy slowness of Rapture for a more fluid and dynamic action, with nervous combats and an unprecedented verticality. Thanks to the Sky-Hook, a mechanical hook, Booker can move at dizzying speed by sliding on the suspended rails of Columbia, adding a spectacular dimension to the confrontations. The combats offer many strategic possibilities, mixing weapons, powers (called Vigors), and interactions with Elizabeth. The Vigors allow varied and spectacular attacks, reminiscent of the Plasmids of BioShock, but with a unique touch adapted to the universe of Columbia.
Unforgettable soundtrack: Music of BioShock Infinite, composed by Garry Schyman, is sublime and perfectly accompanies each moment of tension, emotion or action. The song choices, mixing early 20th century songs with retro-futuristic covers of modern hits (like the barbershop version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”), add a cool, surreal touch. The soundscape helps create this strange universe and enhances the immersion. The game even makes bold choices with memorable musical scenes that contribute to its magic and unique atmosphere.
Bad points
Limited freedom of exploration: Unlike Rapture, Columbia is a more linear city, and players can sometimes feel a little too guided in environments that, while impressive, are less open and interconnected than BioShock's labyrinthine levels. The exploration areas are more restricted, and there is less room for free exploration. This does not detract from the overall immersion, but for fans of Rapture's exploration, Columbia may feel less organic.
Repetitive combat phases: While the combats are nervous and enjoyable, their frequency can become tiresome. The waves of enemies follow one another quickly, sometimes to the detriment of the story and atmosphere. In the long run, these confrontations can seem a little repetitive, and one can have the impression that the game forces its hand a little too much on the action sequences, to the detriment of exploration or quieter moments. For players who prefer a more immersive and less action-oriented approach, this can be a bit of a break from the pace.
Simplified management: Compared to BioShock’s inventory and resource management systems, Infinite takes a more simplified approach. There are only a limited number of weapons to carry and the customization options are less extensive, which can make the experience feel a bit “casualized” compared to previous games. Fans of detailed management and deep customization might find this system a bit too basic.
Less memorable enemies: While Columbia has its fair share of formidable enemies, like the terrifying Handyman and the Songbird, none of them come close to the iconic Big Daddy of previous games. Their appearances are memorable, but they lack emotional impact and connection to the central story. The absence of an enemy as symbolic as the Big Daddy is felt, and the fights sometimes lack that epic touch that made each encounter unique in BioShock.
Dense Universe: BioShock Infinite tackles complex themes, including parallel realities, free will, and time manipulation. While this adds a fascinating depth, the storyline can become confusing, especially towards the end. Players unfamiliar with science fiction concepts like parallel dimensions or time paradoxes may feel lost, and some elements may require multiple replays or even research to be fully understood.
Summary
BioShock Infinite is a major work of video gaming, both ambitious and immersive. With a magnificent visual universe, a captivating storyline, and a striking female character, it reinvents the BioShock formula while retaining the philosophical and complex essence that made the saga successful. Columbia, while different from Rapture, is an unforgettable city that reveals its dark secrets with rare intensity and beauty. The dynamic, vertical gameplay offers exhilarating sensations, even if the frequent combat can become repetitive.
90/100
This game is fun. It's quite a bit different than 1&2. Some may like this, some may hate it. I don't mind. My gripe is the game play mechanics. I may be a nub but many times during this game I'm second guessing where I need to go unlike the last two games where they at least give you a guiding arrow. Because there's no real guiding arrow the tell you where to go you just run around repeating places you've been to, so there's a LOT of openness to explore but at the same time feels so empty. Yes I know in the menu it tells you what your objective is. that's not as helpful as per say, A MAP. ya know? to figure out where you are!!! THERE'S NO MAP to this stupid ass game. What the fuck. Then you have Elizabeth running into you and blocking doors constantly. The Battle mechanics are fine and all but you can only carry two weapons and it feels like you're never truly at risk of running out you just find a new weapon on the ground with more ammo.
If you haven't played it, go for it. it's a different experience.
One of my favorite game franchises is Bioshock. This game completes the story wonderfully. The gameplay is great, the visuals may not be the best ever but its style is top notch. The story is what sets the Bioshock franchise apart and this game's story is (in my opinion) one of the best.
I played through the whole Bioshock series in the last couple of weeks, including the DLC. When the series originally released I played and finished Bioshock and Infinite and absolutely loved them. Now playing through those with Bioshock 2, the Minerva's Den DLC, and the Burial at Sea episodes I can definitively say that Bioshock is one of the best video game series of all time. Infinite and Burial at Sea come with some world changing reveals, and the final moments of both the main story of Infinite, and Burial at Sea episode 2 are some of the best end game reveals in the medium. I highly recommend this series.
Back when I played this game, I wasn't up to writing this kind of review, but now it's a different story. Oh god this game was amazing, the hate it got for having deviated from the previous title is exagerated, this game is one of the best FPS out there, the replay value is through the roof, the story is amazing even after completing it for a 3rd time, there is always some new detail poping up that was missed in the previous play through, the character development and reveals were good, some might be predictable or might feel a bit random, but overall the story is pretty good, the delivery and "cinematography" if you want to call it that way is amazing, it retains the fantasy almost at all points while playing it, the DLC while short is great too, wished they made more chapters, specially for Booker, with all the additions made in the first DLC.
Played it 4x thru. Its one of those games that is very nice to look at with good mechanics. You don't need to play the others before this one although I recommend playing the remastered versions regardless. This game I always thought should be a TV show. Love it.
