Miserable compatibility, in desperate need of some patching. Remastered version does not help with any of the problems. You could try and put up with the issues, looking all over for fixes, but I have yet to find solutions for borked texture streaming and audio cutoff that work for me.
2K launcher can fuck right off.
10/10. Story, gameplay, gunplay, the visuals - everything in this game is amazing. Its a must have in any videogame collection
would you kindly play this game?
(the original is superior to the remaster)
The pc port fot this is genuinely so broken and outdated, the pipe mini game is an actual lobotomy and the combat is pretty basic and stiff. But its true what they say about Rapture. Very immersive world. It's fun just exploring every corner of this place finding little details and environmental storytelling. I would love a remake of this game one day cause this is barely playable and I hear the remaster is barely an improvement.
Very good game, such brilliant, wowzaz
Just started playing the original BioShock 1 on a Chromebook Acer Spin 713 with 16GB RAM and it's working great. Not as smooth as native apps, but I can play, move, watch cut scenes, and spacial sounds. It seems to have installed the "Windows" version running on this Chromebook. This is so awesome!!! This will keep me entertained in my 20hr plane ride coming soon.
Even in 2025 this game is still worrh your time if you've never played it
One of the best games of all time. If you are a fan of Bendy, Call of Duty, and other FPS then this game is for you. This game has an amazing story and keeps you on your feet.
I really liked the story and I disliked how repetitive the missions are
it's a fun game with amazing voice acting
PLEASE play this game.
Once in a lifetime experience, it's actually amazing.
It was worth every cent, i mean it.
One of the best atmospheres for a game and a super interesting open world to explore with alot of lore. Scared me when i was a kid and still is creepy to me now!
First time completing the game and I can say it's one of the best games I've ever played. The gameplay is fun and the story is interesting along with location. Really the only cons I have is that hacking the safes like 99% of the time is annoying and not worth it along with it's kinda annoying that for some of the big daddies if you fall to a big daddy the little sister will disappear when you go back to the location, only had that issue with the last one, but having to reload a save point multiple times just to do that again since I was going for the save all little sisters ending was a little annoying. Last con is that I wish the boss was worked on more, I don;t mind that the boss was easy, but I just wish they did more since he doesn't have much different moves along with him calling in assistance doesn't make the boss fight a little more challenging.
I'll give this game a 9.0/10
Okay game, atrocious port
Honestly the game fell off majorly at the halfway point but its still okay
I've heard so much about this game for years. I have always wanted to try it. I have finally gotten the chance. I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. It is a story on rails type of game to some extent. But, it does offer puzzles and problem solving to get to your desired result.
The game lives up to the hype.
A wonderous classic! Take an amuesing and fantastic dive into the beautiful city of Rapture! Meet legends amoungst your travels and transform yourself into the best version of yourself! From plasmids, to gunplay (after some time to get used to it), and the story. I fell in love with this game after barely managing to kill my first "Big-Daddy". When I got hit with the choice to "Harvest or Free" the 'little sister', I made a stalwart choice to save them all. Now, as I finish the game, I feel my heartstings being pulled and rejoiced in my idea to buy the entire series. Play this before any other bioshock game, you will have a blast and might even shed a tear of two...
10/10
The characters' premise fits my needs of perspective.
This might not mean anything, and I apologize if this isn't misleading.
I don't leave bad reviews, all efforts are a perfect score.
i cant urge you enough, play the original, not the remaster, the graphics and art style really pop, and alot of that was dulled in the remaster in favour of pointless assets and way to much lighting effects, not to mention the fact that its way easier to get this to run at 100 plus fps, but for some reason the remaster has a strange 30fps cap which makes zero sense on pc, easy to fix but still odd...
A well written open letter to an author who died twenty-five years before its release.
was wandering aimlessly, atempted to take on some fucko in an old ass diving sould, got the shit beaten out of me, next time im cowering in fear
10/10
Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailin'
Somewhere beyond the sea
She's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
Then straight to her arms
I'd go sailing
It's far beyond the stars
It's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing
I know beyond a doubt, ah
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet (I know we'll meet) beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing
No more sailing
So long sailing
Bye bye sailing
It's Bioshock. - Enough said
The game that started a phenomenon. I still prefer this entry to the presumptious and dumbed down Infinit.
Lot of technical issues due to game age, I suggest you to play the Remastered edition with those 2 mods to keep it closer to the original look: "Reflective water surfaces for Bioshock" and "Visual fixes and original aesthetics for Bioshock Remastered"
I won't rate it negatively because it's a really, really good game but I had to switch to the remaster since this version was barely playable.
Apparently, it's a great game, though it does not work properly. I have constant crashes when saving the game. I spent two hours trying to find a fix, but it didn’t work. 0/10 experience.
This game is awesome, as someone who went into the series blind with no previous nostalgia or biases towards the series. Its a decent experience that will keep you on your toes the whole way through, the atmosphere is amazing and feels insanely well thought out and is blooming with creativity, the weapons are interesting and most of them have a purpose gameplay and lore wise. However, some complaints i have: The battles, gameplay, and general objectives get very tedious late game, the enemies become literal bullet sponges that have no depth to them, even the big daddies are a heated case. The first 3 times you fight them are pretty intense and decently fun, but all big daddies. Even though theres different types, mainly are the same, one can shoot a gun and throw bombs, and the other can run really fast and slow down time, interesting, right? Yes, but after a bit it numbs down to just "shoot and run away, stun with plasmid if too close" not to mention, they arent really a challenge after you get the grenade launcher. The combat can go from: "so easy it makes me sleep" to "unfair janky mess that nobody could normally survive without dying once" and theres no real middle line, whilst the plasmid system is interesting and can provide rich attacks and combos that pump up the gameplay, most of them go completely useless, half of them arent even needed to beat the game, you could easily beat the game with just the electrical, fire. and telekenesis plasmids. The final boss was way to easy, i didnt even die once, and i was at around 30 healh during the fight, the ending ( the good one at least ) was actually really heartwarming, but no credits screen or anything like a "GOOD JOB YOU BEAT THE GAME" screen? it just cuts you back to the main title screen, there is a credits button there but you have to manually activate it. Ignoring all these problems, or if you just get use to them and stop caring, bioshock is an amazing game with loads of creativity strung throughout the whole thing, a must see for anybody wanting an story filled fps game with stunning atmospheres and rpg elements splattered throughout.
this game fucking rocks, i just wish it didnt have so many issues with playing on modern hardware with modern comfort expectations.
My god, as a game that was made in 07 it looks 10x better than fallout 3. The story, is peak. The game can be a bit hard at times but, overall, great story telling and atmosphere. i will say, i got soft locked during the last boss fight as i had no money and only made 1 same to the game. Fail on my end ;-;
Would you kindly buy this game, and play it till the end. because its great.
It was one of the most memorable games I've ever played years ago.....and playing it again decades after, it still proves to be one of the most immersive, compelling, unique and challenging games to be played by survival and psychological horror enthusiasts out there. Highly recommended. You're missing out if you don't dare to enter the fascinating and macabre depths of Rapture.
The levels, art-style and gameplay are awesome.
I really really enjoyed this game. A good balance of horror and shooter. I think what made me enjoy this a lot was how much it felt like Bendy and the Ink Machine, and after some research Bioshock was actually an inspiration for the Bendy franchise. So thats very very cool, cant wait to play through the rest of the games.
This game holds a special spot in my childhood, I was terrified of this game as a kid. It was something i looked forward to regardless if i was scared or not. It is a staple, and deserves to be remembered. If they ever make a 4th game, I want it to be just like this.
Rating: 10/10
BioShock, released in 2007 by 2K Games and developed by Irrational Games, is one of the most iconic and influential FPS games of all time. Combining deep storytelling, immersive world-building, and unique gameplay mechanics, BioShock delivers an unforgettable experience that blends philosophical themes with tense survival horror elements.
Whether you're exploring the haunting underwater city of Rapture for the first time or replaying to catch every detail, BioShock remains an absolute must-play.
Why BioShock is a Timeless Classic
🌊 Incredible Setting – Welcome to Rapture
The game’s biggest strength is Rapture, a beautifully crafted underwater dystopia, built as a utopia of freedom and innovation but ultimately destroyed by greed, power, and madness. From the moment you descend into the ocean, the game grips you with its haunting atmosphere and stunning Art Deco architecture.
📖 A Deep and Thought-Provoking Story
BioShock is more than just an FPS—it’s a narrative masterpiece. It explores themes of free will, objectivism, and morality, heavily inspired by Ayn Rand’s philosophy. The story twists and turns in unexpected ways, leading to one of the most famous plot twists in gaming history.
🔫 Satisfying and Unique Gameplay
The mix of guns and Plasmids (genetic powers) creates incredibly fun combat. You can freeze enemies, set them on fire, electrocute water puddles, or turn enemies against each other. This freedom allows for creative and strategic encounters.
🧬 Little Sisters and Big Daddies – A Moral Dilemma
Throughout the game, you must decide whether to harvest or save the Little Sisters, which affects the story’s outcome. Protecting or fighting the terrifying Big Daddies, their monstrous guardians, makes for some of the most intense fights in the game.
🎶 Incredible Sound Design and Atmosphere
The eerie 50s-era music, distant whale calls, and creepy echoes of insane Splicers roaming Rapture make every corridor unsettling. The voice acting is also top-tier, with unforgettable performances that bring Rapture’s tragic inhabitants to life.
Any Flaws?
❌ Some Clunky Combat Mechanics
The shooting mechanics can feel a little stiff compared to modern FPS games, but the unique powers and strategy compensate for this.
❌ Hacking Minigame Can Be Repetitive
Hacking turrets and vending machines is useful, but the pipe-connecting minigame gets old fast. Fortunately, later games refined this mechanic.
Conclusion
BioShock isn’t just a great game—it’s a work of art. Its story, setting, and atmosphere make it a must-play for any gamer who loves deep narratives and immersive worlds.
🔹 Rating: 10/10 – A masterpiece that still holds up today. Would you kindly play it?
The fact that this game is one of the grandfathers of fps games like DOOM and Wolfenstein, I have to say this game is a classic masterpiece. I played it on console during Covid for the first time and had nothing in my interest but Bioshock for months straight. Got all the merch and watched every video essay there is. This game means so, so much to me to the point where I'll die playing it. Highly recommend this one if you like immersive stories with a lack of cut-scenes and a pack of action.
I originally played the Remastered because I got it for free on Epic Games but the Remaster is so shit I hated the game originally. But I'm really big on Immersive Sims. So I gave it another try and this time I played the original. Now I can say... I love the game!
I'll leave a thumb up. The story is worth every minute of your attention.
Epico storytelling loved it!
Very fun, I am on my 3rd play-though and still enjoying it. The story is nice, combat is quick and clean, it is not to easy, but not so hard you are going to alt+f4, there is new game+ that I will be trying out soon, two endings, the story is nice. The one and only complaint is the ammo desperation, at the beginning you are searching everywhere for any little piece of ammo you can find, but middle to late game you have to much ammo, but you always run out. Still, it is very fun even with the lack of ammo and once you get a few upgrades ammo is easy to get. Very good game, still playable and highly recommended in 2025 and I can insure you will have fun playing, and be surprised at the ending of the story.
[Review based on Remaster]
Plays just like System Shock 2.
Features an excellent allegorical story and lore, told in a very fun way.
Every visual element across the screen is full of detail, and that detail is ornate Art Deco, consistently throughout, even the menus and fonts. Some of the best world building ever. Fantastic.
I played the remastered version first, then tried the classic. The gameplay is exactly the same, except that this version has audio issues only present on modern rigs.
The little sister of narrative FPS
I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...Rapture.
These ominous words fade away, towering submerged skyscrapers drifting into view from the deep. Their exteriors, once a facąde of extravagance now weathered from the weight of madness within and the thousands of tons of water all about them. Panicked voices flicker over the airwaves, and a feeling of foreboding sinks in as to what may lie in store within this sunken metropolis.
The cold open to Bioshock is incredible, posing more questions than answers. You are plunged in the deep end (both physically and literally), into Rapture, an underwater society built for the hyper-elite, whose inhabitants have been perhaps indulging a little too much on designer drugs.
Now, before I go any further:
I'M PLAYING THIS GAME IN 2025
My outlook is going to be predicated upon expectations set by playing successive works by other publishers. Having played SOMA recently, the bar was already set pretty high for games set in underwater cities, heck, even narrative games in general. Inherently, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Even Bioshock sits atop the shoulders of giants, being the 'little sister' of System Shock (hence the casual nod in the game's title - BioSHOCK).
That being said, Bioshock doesn’t just hold up, it excels in many aspects.
Apart from being Jeff Bezos's wet dream (no pun intended) Rapture's anachronistic art direction is impeccable, harkening back to the class and futurism of the art deco architectural movement of the 1930s. Everything about the world sparks the imagination of the player, further supported by the plethora of audio tapes that scatter the city's sprawling corridors and passageways.
Moreover, the story goes to some interesting places, though feels a little contrived at points, What was even the justification for the Little Sisters/Big Daddies? Is everything written off in the story as a biproduct of Adam-induced madness? The existence of Big Daddies as enemies seems shoehorned in. it remains engaging and satisfying for the most part.
That all being said...
Bioshock's gameplay can be a bit of a chore in places.
- The 'hacking' minigame is not much fun, and there are so many times you need to complete it considering the wide array of hackable machines, the gimmick very quicks grows tiresome.
- Enemies quickly become bullet-sponges, and on account of limited ammunition to pick up, the use of guns becomes quickly unviable. This leads to more hacking minigames and delegating the job of fighting to hacked security drones (which I suppose quite neatly fits with the capitalist theming of the game).
- The characters feel a little one-note and writing veers close to being expository in places.
[*]A number of the plasmids feel functionally similar or have limited utility.
While some aspects may be dated, Bioshock still creates an impeccable atmosphere and builds a world quite unlike any other seen before or after it. If you haven't played Bioshock, it deserves a play for these elements alone, even if the gameplay can feel occasionally dated.
7/10
Amazing game the story the play through all enjoyable especially if you like high tensions and terroresque vibes there is alot of them to this game. I feel like its still up to par this day. GREAT GAME
The Bioshock Series has been a huge staple in my life playing this game brings me joy I never felt the story and everything else is great the remasters of this game is pretty good apart from Infinite and Bioshock 2 but I do recommend playing the series if you never heard of this game.
Amazing game, never played anything like it, not overly long for people who get impatient with story games, action packed, lots of lore!
i'm playing the og version and it's as good as it was when it came out almost 20 years ago :)
This is an excellent game and one of the best games ever released for consoles like the PlayStation 3, but I can't recommend playing this version of the game seeing as I and many other people have had issues playing it. Adjusting the volume causes the game to repeat my previous button press rapidly, so if I pause the game and then unpause followed by adjusting the volume, it will rapidly bring up the pause menu. I also can't save seeing as the game thinks that it was installed on the wrong hard drive and that there's no space available. Neither of those things are true. I would just play the remastered version if I were you. If anybody knows how to fix these issues, please let me know.
After all these years of Bioshock being released, it is still a wonderful classic that needs to be experienced to the highest degree by anyone. The story is well-crafted, the mechanics are addicting, and the ambience and sound effects are beyond the time that it was created for, and still is even to this day. I can not express this enough, do yourself a favor, and would you kindly buy this game?
Great atmosphere and award winning story. Game play is awesome for all skill levels. You'd have to live under a rock to not know about Bioshock.
I've beaten this game countless times, yet it remains captivating. The story is compelling, the combat is engaging, and it feels genuinely crafted, not rushed for profit. This game is for players who want to experience something special. You will enjoy it. I began playing at nine and will continue playing it at fifty. I plan to share it with my children.
Bioshock plunges you into the underwater city of Rapture, a haven for the brightest minds and boldest spirits, built on the promise of freedom and self-reliance. But as you explore this decaying utopia, you uncover a dark truth: the pursuit of power can corrupt even the noblest of intentions.
You'll play as a plane crash survivor who stumbles upon this hidden world full of secrets, danger, and a unique kind of philosophical intrigue. As you delve deeper into Rapture's mysteries, you'll confront the words of Andrew Ryan, the city's enigmatic founder: “In the end, what separates a man from a slave? Money? Power? No, a man chooses; a slave obeys.” This game will stay with you long after you finish it, challenging you to think about the nature of freedom, the price of progress, and the choices we make in the face of adversity.
I had always heard that this game was good and boy it didn't disappoint. As someone who likes to play games that I never could when I was young, I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it and wants to. It also looks really beautiful and I didn't find any glitches. I haven't played the remaster but I didn't feel like I needed to.
