Short, not as much going on as the author's other work, nor as detailed. I think this is a really good first draft or beta version of the game, but it needed another pass to put meat on its bones. However, I think the ending synopsis is really well done, especially considering the game's limited length and scope.

I don't really understand what the isekai angle adds, and some choices that seem like they should be substantial are ignored or don't have their impact communicated to the player. Certain story elements are introduced and immediately dropped afterwards (hello hivemind species that shows up for one scene!).

The characters are neat (I enjoy them as is, and I REALLY want to like them even more!) and I think the game does a good job of balancing their screen time and reusing them throughout the story. The romance is meh but I feel this is an amazing start for a cast of characters. However, again, it feels like a first draft that needs to put more meat on their bones.

While I liked all the references and call backs to the author's other work (DARIA, WOOO!), I kind of don't understand what the purpose of this game is? It's not as large in scope as Life of a Wizard, and it doesn't have the character customisation nor the focused story of The Lost Heir. I guess the spell system was meant to be the selling point, but right now, it just feels like a meeker class system from Lost Heir. Maybe the game has a lot more branching than first impressions suggest? That would be novel, if true, but I'm doubtful. I'm super nostalgic for the author's work, I am legitimately rabid to play their next game, and I would love to learn some context as to why the author wrote this.

I'll play any game set in Fantasy!Daria, its so neat seeing all the Easter Eggs between games, but this one was underwhelming and I can't help but think it's kind of a step backwards.

This game was pretty good. The story was fairly interesting, and I felt like my choices made a difference, but similar to some of the other works by the same creator, “The Last Wizard” feels a bit rushed. Plot points that seem like they should be a big part of the story are often condensed down to a few minutes of reading. The same goes for the potential romances and many of the people you meet. You don’t have time to get to know them all that well, so I never felt particularly close to any of them. Even so, it’s a nice enough read. (6/10)

If you buy "The Last Wizard" get prepared to read the words "your magic fails you" a lot. In order to keep your magic from derailing the plot, it often just doesn't work. Eventually, a plot device is introduced to explain why you can't use your magic in any circumstance that would resolve everyone's problems before the inevitable final boss battle and deus ex machina is revealed.

Each act follows the same trajectory ... everything keeps getting worse and your magic is not the solution. Even as you solve a sequence of problems, typically by using skills (not magic) or with the help of companions, it doesn't matter because some terrible thing still happens at the end of each act to crank up the despair. And then, in the end, jarringly, suddenly it just all works out.

I got the feeling the author's ending was some nihilist scream into the void, but the publisher ripped it out and paid an intern to allow a happy fantasy ending. My expectation was the main character would awake in an insane asylum, with the revelation being a wizard was just a psychotic episode and his familiar had been the Geico Gecko playing on the tv at the nurse's station.

I don't recommend this game. From the title to the description to the premise, you are misled. Your tower is not filled with arcane knowledge, the two nations are not at war - one is an aggressor threatening to invade and annihilate the other, and it wasn't even an ordinary Tuesday evening when you left earth - as revealed by an unnecessary series of flashbacks.

Well the story is interesting but like many other games like it, there is a heavy stat requirement and if you fail to guess what skills to pick at the right times then you will fail every event that happens. Restarting from the start over and over again because like all games of this type there never is a save system something i always hate. The characters are not that interesting, i have so far had zero interest in a romance with any of them. For the most part i am frusterated over my skill checks failing and how by raising one stat you lower others.

If you get this game, healing seems to be the most useful skill so far. But i would not recommend this game.

This game is pretty fun, I love the storytelling and how it's basically just a choose-your-own-ending book. I also am a huge fan of magic, which this game is based around (I would hope so, it IS called "The Last Wizard" after all). I like that you can go down different paths, unlocking different things, and you can choose who to romance as well. It's kind of like the Witcher just as a book, and I mean that regarding gameplay, not so much for the story XD

There wasn't a huge amount of reviews, but if you love hosted games and choice of games products you'll LOVE this, well at least I did. I was enamored with the story and there are so many romantic options to choose from (granted my first pick and first playthrough I romanced Jasper because he's supposed to be the hottest, I know vain haha), but all in all solid game for the price!

It was a decent, enjoyable adventure. I liked it, it had enough choices to be kept interesting, and since I am a wizard supremacist (played mages from the time of the first Baldur's Gate), I was entertained. There was one story twist (no spoilers) that made it a bit more creative than your average "whisked to a magical land" story. I felt like a character from a good, light young adult sorcery novel.

This was a very fun read and the fact that this is LGBTQIAP+ friendly makes it even more realistic and enjoyable for me. There isn't much LGBTQIAP+ content on Steam but knowing that there is an inclusive writer and game developer who creates such magic makes me feel very blessed. Thank you!

Yet another game from Mike Walter. I really liked that one and mainly because I felt like some flaws from his previous titles were covered here.

Character developement have deepened it seems even though some characters still seems a little bland. Mike Walter didn't lost himself in a statistical craze this time and trust me he usually does ! The title still retains a lot of freedom while being sufficiently linear. You can't do everything with anything and that was actually nicely managed.

There's a few titles now that gives the possibility of choosing one branch of magic. One of them is Life of a wizard also by Mike Walter and another one would be Choice of magics by the same author than Choice of robots. They're all solid titles and this one does'nt make exception.

I found the story classic but efficient and well-written. It does feel similar to Choice of magic in some way (little wizard studying and becoming overpowered while being involved in a war) but shorter and less ambitious. It's not bad because the overall feeling and subjects raised feels different.

It is one of my favorite read of the wizard genre with Choice of magics and The Last Wizard is personally my favourite work of Mike Walter so far if you don't count The lost heir trilogy (being an epic trilogy).

I should warn you beforehand that even though the Steam mark is positive, my personal one is neutral. I had some serious doubts after the first playthrough (and almost decided to go for the negative review), but later the situation has improved.

      My story with this game

To start with, I am a long-time fan of Lucid’s Games titles – I have played all of them right after the release, on my mobile device at first and then in Steam. I absolutely loved The Lost Heir Trilogy, Life of a Mobster and Life of a Wizard (Paradox Factor is more on the neutral part, though). However, I had a very rocky start with The Last Wizard. When it was just released, I immediately went for the demo version and boy was I disappointed! I did not like the story and its pacing, and the characters were not any better. Everything was developing too fast and just the overall feeling was as if I was playing a simplified version of The Lost Heir – it is set in the same world but in a different time period, as far as I understood; but the writing itself is far less engaging.

So, to cut a long story short, I decided against buying the full game at first. About a year later, I once again came across The Last Wizard while it was in the sale. I thought about the whole thing for several days and then eventually bought it just to see how bad it could be. And maybe because I was really missing one of my favorite fantasy book worlds, too.

I was honesty hoping that my opinion would change by the end of the game. In some ways yes, it did, but many issues were still there.

      My thoughts about the game

Text-based games have three very important parts: story, characters, and the quality of writing.

Let me start with the story. The premise is quite interesting: you are kidnapped into another world where magic still exists, but in a very limited way. Only you, the last wizard, can perform any kind of spells. As the luck would have it, you find yourself in the middle of a major war conflict between two kingdoms. Your task is to save the small kingdom of Duroth from the Burkk invasion. On the way to complete this mighty quest you can also master various magic schools and even – gasp! – find love. Sounds pretty cool, right?

Unfortunately, as it turns out, a good base is not enough for a great story. I am quite used to Lucid’s games relying a lot on the stats, and I honestly do not mind this that much. What I do mind, however, is the pacing – if the previous games were a bit dry, The Last Wizard turns out to be outright boring or ridiculous at times. My main complaint? Everything is happening too fast. There is not much depth in most events – they are just there to move the story forward, not to make it more interesting. Oh, and another major point, for me at least: you do something, even particularly small or irrelevant, and all people start clapping, cheering, and just being generally happy. Honestly, it felt like a story from r/ThatHappened, geez! Not to mention that there were too many of these scenes.

Is there anything good I can say about the story? Yes, there is. Despite the issues mentioned above, some chapters were interesting, and I definitely liked the lore. This is the fantasy world I love, the four gods, the magic. This is what I was looking for from the very beginning.

Second, the characters. Most of them are outright bland at the beginning of the story, and I cannot say that all of them get enough development by the end. The author focuses too much on their appearance (and your character does the same) while neglecting the personality. Most characters are very attractive, which was also not nice – too unrealistic and cringey at times. However, this very part of the game has its redeeming qualities, which made me give the game a neutral review. While some people and romances got me bored, others were great. For example, I absolutely loved the younger prince/princess – their romance was the best and I felt a lot of sympathy towards them.

Last but not least, the quality of writing. I did not notice any mistakes and there was just one issue related to coding. Some moments were too repetitive, like the issue with clapping and cheering I have mentioned above, but overall, replaying the game was not that bad. I definitely liked the variety of endings, the amount of available romantic partners (despite some being boring), and various small features like choosing your background in the common world. And the spells were interesting to master.

      Would I recommend this game?

I am not sure. On the one hand, it is definitely not the best work by this author. The Lost Heir Trilogy is way more interesting, and even Life of a Wizard, which was strictly stat-based and did not have many descriptions to make the world more vivid, was more engaging. I do not think that you should begin your exploration of the Hosted Games with this title.

On the other hand, if you are a fan of Lucid’s Games works, I am pretty sure you will like reading another story in the familiar setting. There is nothing outright bad about the game, mind you; it is just mediocre in many aspects. Personally, I was hoping for more, but still enjoyed discovering various endings and story parts.

So sum up, I did not get what I was looking for, but it does not mean you will not like The Last Wizard. To each his own, as they say. I do hope that the next work by this author will be better and more engaging, so that I could write a positive review without any *buts*.

While this isn't one of Walter's best work, it still is a solid entry. It suffers from the fact that it has less variety in gameplay than his other stories. However, the story is interesting, especially if you are familiar with the world and have questions about the state of things. The characters are fun and have their own identity. The game also gives you the opportunity to feel very powerful once you figure out the game a bit. There are several endings that can vary depending on your character's investment in the conflict, desire to go home, and how much of a jerk you feel like being. If you enjoy this story then I encourage you to check out Life of a Wizard, Life of a Mobster, and the Lost Heir trilogy. Those books usually succeed better than this one in at least one or more aspects.

Great characters, interesting story, and it felt like my choices really mattered. It did feel a bit less game-y than Lucid/Mike's previous games, but this didn't detract much from the overall experience.
Also, I was so glad that this game turned out to be in the same universe as The Lost Heir.

A solid enough 7/10; While not so good as Mike Walter's Lost Heir Series, it's a reasonably good entry by the author. The key, as with many games by this author, is to specialize; it is better to do one thing very, very well in this story than many things halfway decently. Once one realizes that, one can have a grand time, so to speak. Not my favorite Hosted Game, but worth picking up.
